Recently reported ELECTRICAL SYSTEM problems on 2011 Ford Edge

During driving, the engine stopped and car would not accelerate, there was a complete loss of power. there was no warning, and the "yellow wrench" light came on, and car would not go. this was in the middle of the road and could not get off of the road. it happened so quickly, there was no time to react to try to pull over. lost steering and couldn't move anywhere. waited for 1 min or so, and restarted car. *tr

After closing the driver's side door, the in dash computer says the door is still ajar and the dome light will not turn off. *tr

On the driver's door only, the door ajar notification remains on even after the door is securely shut. the door will not lock with that notification on and the interior lights do not want to go out either. also, when the car is off and the doors are locked, this, what seems like an electrical shortage, causes the auxiliary lights come on and off and it causes the battery to die over time. this has been the case since the car was purchased in 2012. *tr

Open or close doors sensors defective. happens in almost all ford edge vehicles.

Door ajar light will not go off for driver door. door is closed. doors will not lock when moving. i have kids that could open the door while moving (and yes i could use the child locks, but i do not in case of a wreck). this also leaves the interior lights and exterior lights on for 10 or so minutes after the car is turned off, which will drain the battery. this seems to be a huge issue with ford door latches for many years now and needs to be fixed. *tr

All four door ajar indicators are stuck. inside lights will not go out until vehicle reaches approx 15 mph which blinds the driver when pulling out of driveways, etc. *js

The door ajar sensor ceases to function and indicate whether the door is open or closed, leaving it in the "ajar" state. by having it in this state, the vehicles locks do not automatically engage while driving and also the battery drains while the car is not in use. *tr

The door latch switch is faulty and the door ajar light will not go out on the instrument panel. apparently ford refuses to recall the product. i believe this could lead to a dangerous situation if the door is really ajar and the door could open, drain the battery and when the door switch is malfunctioning, it states that the door is ajar and the doors will not lock. *tr

The dome light stays on, night time driving hazard. false door ajar prevents doors from locking while traveling on highway. doors won't lock major safety issue.

Driver door ajar, passenger door ajar. these alerts come up when my doors are closed. the interior light stays on for ever and i cannot lock my doors! this is not acceptable. i have read hundreds and hundreds of complaints about this exact problem. also, the interior lights just come on randomly when car is parked with no key in ignition. and, the backup camera, when it works, is upside down!! these problems should be recalled, as i see so many others complaining about the exact same issues.

Instrument panel indicates driver's door not closed. door ajar light is on. safety concern with the 2011 ford edge. *tr

The door latch sensor malfunctions causing the instrument panel to announce that the door is ajar even though all four doors are locked correctly. if you cannot make the message go away by reopening and shutting the door, then the doors will not lock once the vehicle is in motion and the dome lights will remain illuminated. also, the biggest danger is that the latch can malfunction while driving causing the doors locks to unlock while driving at high rates of speed. this is concerning given that my son rides in the back seat. *tr

The car is sporadically not detecting the driver's side door being closed. this engages the "door ajar" indicator which is linked with the latching mechanism which is linked to the locking features. this happens daily and the door needs to be frequently opened and closed to attempt to get the sensor to recognize that the door is actually closed (which it is). periodically, the indicator will not clear which makes the vehicle unlockable while driving as it has the automatic lock feature at 10-12 mph. even when manually locking the doors while driving with this "door ajar" indicator activated, the doors will unlock themselves because it believes the door is open. when parked and when this happens, you can only manually (fingers or key fob) lock the vehicle but the factory alarm system will not activate as it thinks the door is open. this is an unsafe condition and needs to be recalled. *tr

The drivers side front door sensor does not work. the door is closed but it still shows on the dash door ajar. this does not let the doors lock while driving. i feel that this is very unsafe while driving also unsafe for my family to drive in certain areas of the city. i don't even know if the airbags will work. *tr

My driver door keeps ajar when i fully closed it. i have slam many times.the alarm system goes off later very often .

I've been having issues with the door sensors. i closed the door and the door ajar alarm comes up. i have to slang the door really hard and a few times until the sensors picks it up. when driving i can not locked the doors because the car thinks the doors are ajar. i looked it online and many ford edge's owners had the same issues, they should call for a recall since this is safety problem. *tr

Driver's door ajar sensor was intermittent then went completely out. interior light stays on draining battery when parked. safety concern with door false alert masking actual door not shut condition. additional safety concern with night driving and forced interior light reducing visibility and risk to pedestrians. ford service will only lubricate sensor at customers expense to satisfy tsb-14-0011 causing no confidence in repair and possible re-occurrence of safety issue. this should be a recall and replacement of the faulty sensing unit and/or door latch assembly. *js

Driver door ajar light stays on constantly making the vehicle unable to lock doors automatically and manually. also, interior lights stay on longer making night driving unsafe as well as risk for battery dying. *tr

Door latch assembly- door ajar wont go away, door latch assembly has to be replaced. *tr

Door ajar light stays on and doors will not lock. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford edge. the contact stated that the vehicle stalled twice with the illumination of the check engine warning light. the contact was able to restart the vehicle both times. additionally, the vehicle would shake violently and lose power without warning. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, who was unable to diagnose the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 42,000.

April 3- fifteen mins from home (returning from a vacation to gatlinburg, tn), "black screen of death" occurred. took immediately to dealership. waited 40 mins while diagnostic run and told to bring back monday, april 7, as apim was discovered to be bad. would be replaced monday. april 7- returned to dealership for apim to be replaced and told radio was going to be checked; not apim replaced. argued with staff there, as service manager had already run diagnostic to determine apim needed. had to wait another three days for apim to come in to dealership. returned april 10 for apim replacement. may 3- leaving for a 12 hour round trip to athens, ga to bring son home from college..."black screen of death" occurred 6x before getting an hour from home. occurred 4-5x more on way back from athens, ga. this happened on a saturday so had to call dealership monday. told to bring in may 8. may 8- told issue could not be duplicated. discovered through discussion w/ service personnel that my phone had never been connected w/ sync when these problems have occurred; techs had been diagnosing in a different direction. appears that radio is true issue. personnel said they would check w/ service manager about getting radio replaced. may 12- called and told that ford has said that until issue can be duplicated, nothing will be done to fix my car. if i leave car for undetermined time frame, allow to be driven long distances (adding miles to car), maybe problem can be duplicated. no rental allowed bc issue not covered under warranty. this is my only vehicle. bought $40,000 car for navigation system and cannot use properly bc it keeps going out on long trips. *tr

Driver door ajar light comes on when door is closed as well as while vehicle is moving. interior as well as puddle lights come on. frequent slamming if door to trigger sensor does not work. unable to turn lights off. prohibits doors from locking while vehicle is in motion. serious safety concern. *tr

Please consider reviewing this issue. electrical contact on door latch does not sense that the drivers side door is properly shut. door will not lock, dome light will not go out, as a woman i really don't want people to see that i am alone and female when driving at night or waiting...especially when i am unable to lock the door. door ajar indicator stays on, conditioning you to ignore it. driving with the dome light on is illegal and an unsafe practice. this is an extremely dangerous condition and i'm certain that this "known defect" has already resulted in loss of life. additionally, i took my vehicle to my local for dealer and they repaired it in may of 2014 for $375.00. it worked for 3 months and then the defect returned. i brought it back and they said since they did not replace the part ( they only cleaned the electrical contacts) it was not under warranty.

The "driver door ajar" warning remains lit even when my door is completely closed. i either have to slam my door closed or open/close my door multiple times for the light to turn off. this week, the light has started coming on while my car is in motion, which freaks me out. due to the light coming back on even after it initially goes off, my dome light is staying on and running my car battery down. i needed a jump start this week due to my battery being dead. thank you. *tr

I parked the car and closed all doors and used the remote to lock the doors when i received the two beeps to indicate a door was open. additionally the interior lights would not go off. i checked all doors which was closed only to see in the dash the door ajar sign. the door ajar light now will not off off nor will my interior lights which is draining my battery. due to this the doors will not lock which leave my vehicle vulnerable to theft and while driving my child susceptible to danger. *tr

Having an issue with the drivers door sensor. door sensor still shows the door to be ajar even after several attempts to close. sensor picks up that the door is closed about 1/3rd to 1/2 the time you attempt to close. sensor not functioning properly will allow a warning light in the dashboard to stay on until recognized. the main problem is it keeps the dome light illuminated until you continue to close and the sensor picks up. i have an issue with the sensor coming on and showing ajar while driving. with the dome light coming on, i'm not to happy about not being able to drive at night. found through chat rooms and forums that several other complaints pertaining to this issue, with no fix from ford. ford dealer service reps have known it is a problem, but just say to call ford to see if the problem can be covered. ford district rep., when told of the problem was asked why there is not a recall for this issue. i was told that ford does not issue the recall, it needs to come from nhtsa. so hopefully by having to file a complaint to receive some action will show more numbers as to this faulty safety sensor. the other issue would be if the part replaced is going to be the same part number that people are having trouble with. i would be just waiting a few more years for the same issue to arise. or have they changed the part to rectify the problem. that remains to be seen as i have no alternative but to have the part replaced at $394.00. although i am 6000 miles under warranty, i am 2 1/2 months past the 3 years. *js

Drivers door ajar switch malfunction causing locks to malfunction. *tr

When the driver side door is shut, the drive side door warning light stays on. it will not go out until the vehicle is turned off. once the vehicle is turned off, the interior lights stay on for several minutes. we have to check the vehicle periodically to be sure they turn off. when vehicle is parked outside and no one is near the vehicle, the alarm will go off intermittently. this happens during the day and at night. it seems to have started after the driver side door warning light started staying on. our vehicle is out of warranty. when i called my local ford dealer, they stated they see the problem with the driver side door warning light a lot but there is no recall on it. the repair can be as much as $500.00. *tr

While driving the vehicle on the highway, the "driver door ajar" light appeared on the dash display while the driver door was fully/properly closed and all fours locked. the "driver door ajar" light remained on for a distance before the interior dome lights turned on, and the driver door popped partially open on its own which resulted in all doors to unlock posing a safety risk to the child passengers in the back seat and the driver. the "driver door ajar" light is constantly on, which in turn keeps the interior dome lights on and prevents the doors from locking and the alarm from arming. this issue is present at all times, while operating/driving and while the vehicle is turned off/parked which in turn causes added strain on the battery and electrical systems. the local ford dealer/service department as well as ford customer relations have been notified several times and refuses to investigate/inspect, unless they are paid a very expensive "fee". *tr

Drivers side door latch mechanism is defective. after closing the door the sensor which detects the door being shut is not activated properly. the instrument panel indicates that the door is ajar. the interior lights stay on until the vehicle is in motion. most seriously however is that while this problem is occurring, the vehicle doors cannot be locked. none of them. a child in the back seat could easily open the doors while the car was in motion. even if the driver pushes the door lock button to engage all 4 door locks, they pop right back open after a few seconds. the remote will also not activate the security system when you are outside the vehicle. the horn chirps twice indicating that the doors are ajar. *js

The door ajar light stays on and interior door locks will not lock. this is not safe when the vehicle is in motion. ford needs to issue a recall. *tt

Driver door ajar indicator is illuminated when door is shut. door must be closed repeatedly to get the ajar light to go off. *tr

Driver door ajar warning light remains on when door is securely closed. overhead dome light remains on and doors will not lock while car is in motion. safety hazard with inability to have doors locked while car is in motion. excessive wear on the car battery (recently replaced) with overhead dome lights remaining illuminated for 3 minutes after car is in motion and 10 minutes after while car is turned off. while the issue of the door ajar alarm continues to be on and door latch is defective the car alarm randomly goes off without door manipulation. car alarm has gone off up to 3 times in a day and occurs 4-5 days per week causing disruption in the neighborhood. many complaints have been posted online regarding this issue of a defective door latch that warrants a recall on ford's behalf due to potential safety concerns. children could open the door of the backseat while the car is in motion due to the inability to lock the doors. *tr

The driver door says it is ajar but its actually shut. and the key fob does not work to unlock the doors when you touch the sensor on the door handle. *tr

When all doors are closed, the door ajar lamp will illuminate. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford edge. while driving at an unknown speed, the front driver side door sensor displayed a false reading and indicated that the door was unlocked when it was actually locked. the failure recurred numerous times. the vehicle was taken to a dealer and repaired. three months later, the failure recurred. the contact mentioned that it was the rear driver side door that triggered the false reading. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 37,000. updated 05/18/16*lj the consumer stated the driver's door and the passenger's door both failed. updated 12/13/2017*js

The drivers side door will often report that it has been left ajar when it really hasn't. this causes the dome light to stay on at night while driving for a time which is distracting. it also hides the fact when the door actually is ajar because you assume the sensor is just acting up.

(safety issue,) my door locks won't lock, keeps saying door ajar on passenger door, after numerous attempts to shut the door, lights also stay on cause thinks door is open. don't know if it's a recall or just a defected censor. but really feel it's a safety issue!!!!!!! thank you *tr

Door ajar light stays on when doors are closed. doors wont lock while driving. hazard when children are in the vehicle. slamming door 10 times wont help. have to manually lock door when exiting car. alarm wont work if door wont lock. *tr

My driver side door sensor would show door ajar intermittently. sometimes while driving and sometimes from the time i start my vehicle. when the door ajar would come on it would automatically open the locks on all the doors. this scared me b/c i have 2 kids in the back and driving down the highway with unlocked doors is not very safe at all as they can open the door anytime by mistake. after 3 months of this problem the problem went from intermittent to permanent. now my door will show door ajar permanently. when i am driving i cannot lock the doors. also many times while parked in my garage the alarm started going b/c the sensor did something weird. this has happened many times while parked at my work and at home. i am at a lost why ford has not recalled this part as i see many many ford edge users with this problem. this is a big security and most of all safety risk for kids. please fix this. also the form does not let me put in my calgary, alberta, canada address but thats where i am . thank you. *tr

I was just driving along, and all of the sudden the 2011 ford edge just stalled completely and would not move, so i was able to pull over to the side of the road when all of the sudden the whole care began to shake violently. the display showed a wrench and said to check owners manual, which according to fords owners manual means power train problem. i was able to restart the vehicle and drive it and it acted like nothing happened, got to work and parked. later that day drove it about a mile with no incident. left work and just pulled out of the lot same thing happened, stalled and shook violently so i turned the car off. it started with no problem, went to pull back in the lot and it all happened again. i had the car towed to mathew curries ford in nokomis, fl. service tech says hes not able to replicate the problem so he doesn't know what is wrong with the vehicle. there seems to be alot of other complaints with the same problem. this is a very dangerous situation that can cause serious motor vehicle accident, and ford needs to correct the issue since this seems to be an ongoing issue. i don't know if i will ever be able to feel safe driving this vehicle again. i just bought this vehicle and have not even made my first car payment, its in the shop already.. i am not happy!! *tr

Driver door says it's open when it's not. *tr

The drivers door ajar warning light remained illuminated. the doors are unable to lock. sometimes the light will go off while driving and the doors will lock, but sometimes it will come back on and the doors will unlock again. *tr

Door ajar warning light comes on and stays on, door has to be repeatedly opened and closed numerous times in order to correct this issue. *tr

The drivers door ajar warning message displays when the door is fully closed due to a faulty door latch assembly. doors will not auto lock while driving and cannot be locked using the lock switch on the door panel or with the key pad on the outside of the door. in order to lock the doors they must be either manually locked or locked using the key fob. issue was intermittent at 34000 miles and at 37500 miles the door latch assembly fully failed. ford informed me that they will only covers the repair if within 3 years or 36000 miles of purchasing the vehicle and will not offer any assistance with the repair. the dealer informed me that this is a common problem, but without a recall cannot offer any compensation for this issue. i'm not aware of any publicized safety issues associated with this problem, but hope that an investigation is performed to ensure that there are not any. *tr

Door ajar indicator stays on for driver side door which will not lock. doors cannot be locked while driving, interior lights stay on because of door ajar indicator which in turn drains battery. unsafe for doors not being able to be locked and lights continue to illuminate while vehicle is off and parked. *tr

Driver door ajar warning constantly on. requires you to slam the door sometimes up to ten or more times before the car will finally recognize the door is closed. interior lights will remain on which i am afraid will lead to a dead battery. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford edge. while the vehicle was parked, the driver side door was closed and the door ajar warning light illuminated. the interior lighting remained illuminated when driving, which drained the battery. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it could not be evaluated. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 50,000. the vin was not available.

Door ajar light stays on and can not lock vehicle doors... stays on even while driving... open and close door several times may or may not cause door ajar lights to go out.. usually not.... battery runs down... can't leave vehicle at store or work location because of doors not locking... ford dealer did a "repair" in february 2014 that lasted until mid august 2014.. ford says this is not a recall event...????? this started during the warranty period, but got worse... when we realized that the problem was getting worse, the warranty period was over.. by less than 800 miles... *tr
