We have classified the 630 complaints from 2011 Ford Edge about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
The door ajar warning light illuminated although the doors were shut close. the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the technician diagnosed that the door latch mechanism was defective and needed to be replaced. issue lead to drained battery - car appears not to have a battery safety for door ajar. lead to unsafe condition not being able to use when needed. could be dangerous if car would have been remote or in unsafe area. repaired for over $400.
Door ajar warning light comes on when door is fully shut, dome lights stays on and cannot lock car. i can open and shut it to turn off warning but then it pops on again. *tr
The driver door ajar switch remains on when door is clearly closed. interior lights remain on and drains battery life. very disappointed that this issue has not been taken care of by an american company. *tr
Passenger door ajar warning light comes on intermittently along with interior dome light. opening/closing door usually doesn't fix. warning can come on even if door wasn't opened. can occur when parked (first starting car) or driving. can temporarily override issue by pressing ok button, but can/will happen again. very annoying and is a hazard when driving (kinda startling/distracting) especially if it occurs at night (dome light impairs vision). *tr
-door ajar signal stays on when door is closed tightly. never do i close the door and the door ajar signal goes away. it is always on. -as such, the interior light stays on the in car making it very unsafe and hard to see at night. -i have the inability
I enter the vehicle, started the car and door ajar light came on. i opened door and closed several times to get it to go out. now i just drive it with the light on, don't want to abuse the door. when i park the car the light stays on for a long time. eventually the dome light, ext. yellow lights and ext. rear view mirror down lights will go out. while driving the door locks will not lock. can be driving for a long time and the locks will finally engage. (hour)concerns are driving through flint with the doors unlocked and a dead battery from interior lights not turning off. *tr
Coming out of an underground parking garage and the vehicle suddenly stopped and i received an orange wrench error message stating awd off. the vehicle would not engage in a drivable gear. i had to drift to a spot where i could be out of the line of traffic, at which time i stopped the vehicle/brakedp; shifted into park, and turned off the ignition. upon re-starting the vehicle, it appeared to resolve. upon doing research, i recently took the vehicle to the ford service dept and they reset the transmission computer as i had been experiencing slips or rough starts when driving/accelerating over the last 2-3 months. the incident described above occurred approximately 2.5 weeks after that service visit. *tr
Driver side door is stating door ajar at all times
2011 ford edge sel i was driving down the road and the driver door ajar light came on and won't go off it has killed the battery twice now. it went off the first few times it came on but now it stays on all the time. i think this is a issue with the part and ford should back up the part and fix it aint ford tough if it messes up on its own ford should fix this issue we pay for these nice vehicles and a little switch messes up and we should have to tear the door apart and take a chance on messing something else up i think not ford should have to back up the built ford tough slogan and recall this problem. thank you! *tr
Tsb-14-0083 and 0011. door ajar will not turn off. the issue is with the driver's door latch assembly. this should be a recall as it is affecting all 2011 and newer ford cars with this latch system as documented here on multiple treads on fordedgeforum.com. example thread http://www.fordedgeforum.com/topic/10869-door-ajar-warning-on-at-all-times/page-4. *tr
The driver door is showing an alarm of not being closed when it is closed. the interior lights do not shut off for 2 minutes and this is a safety issue when driving a night and it is killing the battery off. *tr
The drivers side door is definitely closed. car does not think so. dash warning light is on. dome lights on. when using the clicker to lock the doors the horn beeps a couple of times. weird stuff. i do not know if this is going to cause safety problems or not. this edge also has back brake problems. the back rotors and brakes have been changed twice already due to corrosion. bad design. they get really hot and must be slightly in the braking position then until changed. winter in minnesota - salt and ford's better idea. one more thing: when we change the temperature settings the computer things we want air conditioning. this causes the windows to completely fog over under certain conditions. i have had numerous talks with ford motors about this safety problem. they do not get it and basically blow us off because of cost or lack of understanding. there are complaints filed. *tr
The drivers side door adjar sensor is malfunctioning even when the door is fully closed. when this malfunction occurs, the interior overhead light remains lit for 5-10 minutes and it cannot be disabled. this is especially problematic during night driving, because it makes it extremely difficult to see the road and surrounding environment while the light is on. the first time the problem occurred, ford cleaned the contacts and it fixed the error for 6 months and the repair was $148.50 when it appeared again, fords solution was to replace the entire assembly and the cost of this 2nd repair was $340.00. not only have these been expensive repairs, it must be completed because it creates a dangerous driving experience and there is no way to deactivate the sensor. this is a flaw in the design and should be recalled. *tr
The driver door latch has a switch to indicate if the door is open or closed. this switch is failing and indicating that the door is ajar regardless of the actual status. this prevents the ability to lock the car doors while driving the vehicle, and obscures albeit does not prevent the ability to recognize other open doors. dealer indicates that this is a common issue. *tr
The door ajar light started coming on and is now on constantly. since the door ajar light won't go off my console light stays on as well. i have found nothing to fix this issue except for completely replacing it. it's not a cheap fix. *tr
The door ajar light on the dash, while the door is closed, for the drivers side rear door will not shut off. the automatic locks will not engage and the dome lights and various parking lights on the vehicle turn off and on at all hours of the day and night while car is parked taxing the battery. i ended up having to buy a new battery over time. *tr
Door ajar indicator light for rear, left passenger door remains lit after door has been slammed shut numerous times. same issue as other complaints for front driver door. *tr
Door ajar light remains on constantly. dome light stays on after car is off, draining the battery. unable to lock doors while car is running. dome light remains on until speed of 15 mph is reached, making it very difficult to see at night.
1. october 3, 2016 ' ford edge "door ajar" light problems are under investigation by the national highway traffic safety administration (nhtsa) after safety regulators received 1,560 complaints about 2011-2013 ford edge door ajar lights that stay on and cost a small fortune to repair. 2, ford edge the door ajar lights located on the instrument clusters stay on all the time even when all doors are closed and fully latched, leaving owners questioning if the doors are really closed. 3, other problems associated with the door ajar lights staying on, such as drained batteries from both the door ajar lights and the dome lights staying on. 4. the doors won't lock with the door ajar lights constantly illuminated and other owners say the doors open while driving. nhtsa says it doesn't know of any related crashes, but one person reported they suffered injuries due to the problem. 5. in addition to the safety hazards caused by the lights, owners say they have been forced to pay hundreds of dollars to fix problems those owners believe should be fixed under a ford recall. however, one edge owner said she was told by ford the vehicles hadn't been recalled because there hadn't been enough complaints. please note we were given a very high discount on the repair we were originally quoted $550.00!! 6. my driver door ajar light kept coming on. i didn't pay much attention to it; honestly just thought it was a sensor and i would take it in to get looked at. eventually the light stayed on all the time, and even made my interior light stay on as well. i took it to my local ford dealership this week, and it is not the door sensor, but the door latch. this is not covered under my warranty.
Driver door sensor states door is ajar when it is not. *tr
Driver door ajar warning persistently on. cabin lights remain on. multiple complaints on internet regarding this problem with ford vehicle. *tr
Had a door ajar fault(driver door). opened and closed door several times, would not go out. you can not lock the doors when this happens. this fault occurs each time we drive the vehicle. *tr
Drivers side door ajar light stays on. doors will not lock and interior lights stay on. not safe driving with doors unlocked in the event of an accident. interior lights staying on at night make it impossible to see! *tr
Driver-side door sensor does not detect that the door is closed and the "door ajar" warning never turns off.
The car does not detect that the vehicle is in park and the "shift to park" warning continues to sound even though the car is actually in park.
Driver door close sensor malfunction. door sensor has door open warning light when door closed. door sensor can fail while driving and unlock doors. open door sensor keeps interior lop ignite on and drains battery. door sensor keeps interior lights on and/or turns lights on when in motion.
Door latch ajar switch light says passenger door is not close when it is close, interior light will not go off. and doors will not lock as long as it says door is ajar. *tr
The door ajar warning appears continuously on the dashboard even when the door has been closed. this prevents the doors from being locked and causes the dome lights to be on while driving causing vision issues at night. the light also stays on when the car is off which results in draining the battery. *tr
The door ajar sensor on the driver side works sometimes and doesn't work sometimes. i have to open and shut the door several times until it works. if i cannot get it work then it absolutely kills my battery. this is apparently happening alot on these vehicles. *tr
Indicates driver door is ajar. doesn't matter how hard or easy you close the door it won't go off. also my car alarm jeeps going off randomly. *tr
The latch sensor telling the car that the door is ajar is sticking. it won't allow the doors to lock because it thinks the door is still ajar. the interior lights stay on which also drain the car's battery. the fact that my car doors won't lock as a result of this sensor issue is a safety issue for all that encounter it. *tr
As many other ford edge owners have reported, the door ajar warning is illuminated and doors will not lock. door is shut but continues to do this. *tr
The door sensor erroneously indicates door ajar. this prevents the door locks from actuating and allows children to accidentally open door when moving. also the dome lights stay on at hours of darkness, impeding visibility. *tr
Drivers door ajar light stays on. the door is closed. it won't lock the doors when you are driving. at night this is a pain since the dome lights stay on for awhile. tried wd40 and nothing. ford needs to address this since there are many many complaints about this.
While driving on the highway at 70 mph, the car suddenly jerked and quickly lost speed, and the wrench light came on. i attempted to press the gas pedal, however nothing reacted, the car wouldn't accelerate. after turning on the hazard lights, i was able to creep to the shoulder and on then onto the off-ramp where i restarted the car. initially everything worked; i was able to accelerate, but shortly after the jerking/loss of speed happened again. after calling my husband to meet me where i was stranded, i called my insurance company to active roadside assistance. our car was towed to a local ford shop where they told us that our electronic fuel throttle failed and had to been replaced at just about $900 (plus the tow). *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2011 ford edge. the contact stated that while driving at approximately 60 mph, a burning odor emitted inside of the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who stated there was an electrical problem that originated from the fuse box. the failure caused the battery to fail. the battery was replaced on two separate occasions however, the failure persisted. in addition, the rear lift gate failed to release and opened independently. the front driver's side seat belt would not latch securely. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 61,000.
Door ajar switch went out on front driver door last year was under electrical warranty but now the rear left door has done the same thing. *tr
After closing door, the dome lights and door ajar indicator on instrument cluster would illuminate. i would have to slam the door several times to get the dome light and door ajar light indicator light to extinguish. the problem is worse in colder weather. *tr
This is the fourth occurrence of this situation. the first three times, i have taken it to the dealer and their response is that they cannot replicate the problem. the problem is the vehicle will shut off while in motion. it does not matter the speed, the weather conditions, the amount of gas, the weight of the keys in the ignition. i have tried everything to ensure the issue will not happen, yet, it continues. the car shuts off, power steering is unavailable, the computer system goes blank, the tool light comes on the left side of my dash, and the vehicle begins to sputter. luckily, all four times i have been able to get over and shut the car off. i then restart and drive to the dealer. this is extremely dangerous and could potentially be fatal, depending on the surroundings. i have been to three different dealerships and no one will help me. the ford corporate offices have been unhelpful, suggesting that the next time this happens, i should call a tow truck. i should not have to wait for the next time in a dangerous situation like this. *tr
Car almost shuts down, you can drive it at 1 mph or restart & it works fine. engine light does come on. had it towed to dealership & they couldn't find anything wrong. we are both handicap, it's are only car & shuts off daily. dealership can not do anything unless we bring it, take a mechanic with us & it happens while he is in the car!! *tr
Ford edge door ajar light continues to stay on. from the research i have done this is a problem this car has had. this should have a recall. *tr
The door latch sensor malfunctions causing the instrument panel to announce that the door is ajar even though all four doors are shut correctly. if you cannot make the message go away by reopening and shutting the door, then the doors will not lock once the vehicle is in motion and the dome lights will remain illuminated. also, the biggest danger is that the latch can malfunction while driving causing the doors locks to unlock while driving at high rates of speed. this is concerning given that my daughter rides in the back seat. this has caused battery to be drained. *tr
The door ajar switch does not work. what this has done to the vehicle is the interior lights stay on in the car well after it has been turned off. the vehicle also will not turn the interior light off when running unless you are in drive and move forward. the danger is in reversing at night. the lights do not go out whatsoever in reverse and makes it very difficult to see at night when in reverse. we have almost hit a person, a car and a few poles with this lighting staying on. not only does it pose a threat for a crash or hitting other vehicles it also kills the battery in the vehicle. this should not be an issue in a vehicle this new. please do something about this the lighting that stays on will get someone hurt because the driver cannot see where they are reversing to inthe dark. *tr
The drivers door is closed but the switch indicates open so the doors do not lock; the dome lights stayed on when driving after dark and made it difficult to see. also, the dome lights stayed on and ran the battery down overnight. *tr
Door ajar light stays on. *tr
My vehicle all of a sudden slowed down to a coast and would not accelerate. a yellow icon appeared and informed me that i needed to take the vehicle in to the dealer asap, there is a malfunction in the vehicle's awd system. i was able to pull over to the side of the road and turn of the car. the car then started and i was able to get home. when i brought the car over to the dealership i got hit with a $1,000 bill, for the part (throttle box controller) $475, labor $120, re programming the computer $130, fuel injector cleaning $159 and oil change $75. my car is almost three years old and i take good care of it. it is not acceptable that an electrical component's part and labor replacement cost is $1000 in less than three years. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford edge. the contact stated that the door ajar warning light illuminated on the instrument panel causing the dome light to remain on while operating the vehicle. the contact indicated that the visibility was diminished when the dome light illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the door ajar switch was faulty and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 24,000.
Driver door latch/driver door ajar indicator light stays on to include internal cab lights which will remain on. you can attempt to close driver door multiple times without success on removing indicator light alert. you cannot lock doors while in motion or not, and cab lights will remain on. local ford dealer jordan ford or riata ford whom i purchased vehicle from refuse to fix problem as they will not recognize this problem as valid, and doing so would cost me an astronomical fee for labor and parts as per their estimate. it is now 5 months out of the 12 months that i purchased this pre-owned ford certified vehicle that has been just a big headache for us. the vehicle will not lock while this alert remains active whether car is in motion or parked. you cannot arm and lock vehicle which is a big disillusion and insurance would not cover any theft should there be one because of this issue. when alert is active built in theft alarm will also go off at any unknown moment, day or night. the internet is full of bad reviews on this model vehicle and i for one, wished i had read up on it prior to my purchase. this is not a life and death situation, but could become one with the various scenarios that can occur. i would hope to receive a response and i guess i have to wait like all the others. *tr
Driver door ajar alert sensor keeps coming on and does not go off which does not allow for auto lock once in drive and leaves dome lights on. *tr
Door ajar light stays on, even when the door is shut. will not allow automatic door locks to latch. this is a danger to children in the back seat. also, wears out the life of the battery. interior light stay on for 3 min after driving, this makes it a hazard to see when driving. *tr
