We have classified the 630 complaints from 2011 Ford Edge about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
door ajar light stays on when doors are closed and lights stay lid ,alarm won't activate properly. *tr
Door ajar sensor failed causing battery to die. had to buy new battery and pay $500+ to replace door ajar sensor. the fed opened an investigation on october 3, 2016 to inquire about this widespread issue.
Intermittent "door ajar" warning indicator on driver's operation panel. opening and closing, sometimes will clear the warning indicator. if warning indicator is not extinguished by opening and closing door, doors will not automatically lock (i. e. doors remain unlocked). ford dealer has used a lubricant (spray lubricant) into defective driver's side door lock. alarm is less frequent but still a problem. *tr
Passenger door ajar alarm has came on and will not turn off even though door is closed. we already had back hatch jam fixed once. passenger alarm will go off by itself while you are driving or if you stop after 5 miles and open then close door. *tr
The door sensor that registers the driver door being open or shut has malfunctioned. causing it to constantly state the door is ajar when it is closed. very common problem it seems from many complaints from other ford edge owners. it would be great if ford could step up and recall this problem, since its stretching to the lincoln brand too. its very unsafe for these reasons, it causes the cabin light to stay on longer which can cause problems seeing at night til it finally dims, it also drains the battery. being a single mom, i dont want to be stranded somewhere with my child with a dead battery due to this problem. that being said, not being able to lock doors is a major safety issue. i would like to know my family is safe while driving down the road. please fix this problem.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford edge. the contact stated that the doors failed to lock while driving at various speeds. in addition, the door ajar warning light remained illuminated. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 38,000.
Driver side front door switch failed. door ajar light always on. doors will not auto lock when driving due to the computer thinking the door is still open. dome lights are always which shortens the life of the battery.
Read driver side door latch sensor says that the door is ajar and it is clearly not. it used to work by opening and closing a few times, but now has completely failed. it has become a safety issue as the locks will not engage while driving as the interior lights don't go off either. *tr
Drivers door ajar light comes on 90% of the time when door is closed. it started about a month ago and it would do it occasionally. now it has gotten worse to where it is pretty much every time i get in the car. there are tons of complaints exactly like mine about this car when searching the internet. this is a known issue and ford should be held responsible. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford edge. the contact stated that the door ajar warning indicator illuminated when all the doors were closed. the interior lighting illuminated and caused the vehicle's battery to lose power. the failure occurred on multiple occasions. the dealer stated that the electronic sensor on the door latch needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 50,000.
When driving my ford edge down the highway, it suddenly loses power and have to pull off road. has happened 3x so took to dealership and they want $900 to fix! really can't believe a throttle body goes out after 3 years. *tr
My 2011 ford edge with 28,000 miles just dropped out of the three year warranty and the door ajar warning came on after shutting my car door and would not go out. the door was shut, but the sensor still indicated the door was not closed. as a result the auto door lock would not engage and interior lights stayed on. this problem got worse over time and now the door ajar indicator never shuts off. this is a big safety issue in that the doors do not lock as they should and if the door does happen to be ajar you would never know. i believe there is an existing service bulletin(tsb 14-0011) on this, but it should really be a recall because it appears to be a pretty common problem with many fords. i guess ford is waiting for someone to fall out of a moving car and get hurt before they issue a recall. instead ford had me pay over 600.00 to fix the issue just out of warranty. *tr
When closing the driver's side door, the door ajar message appears and the dome light stays on. it takes several attempts to get the door to close. there are times while driving that the door will indicate being open long after first closing the door prior to leaving the departure point. after departing home or work, the door will indicate it is closed but actually it is not closed and after driving down the road a mile or so, it will indicate it open and once again it will take several attempts to ensure it is closed and will not open while driving.
As i was driving out of my neighborhood, i pressed the accelerator, felt a jerk, and then no response from the accelerator. the car was just in idle, with nothing i could do. the "wrench" light (check engine) came on. luckily, i could easily pull over, since i had no control over my speed, except for braking. i shut the vehicle off, and turned it back on, and it seemed to be fine. 5 minutes later, driving on a four lane road, the accelerator went unresponsive again. i was able to pull onto a side street with my existing momentum (there was no shoulder or space on the main road). i contacted my dealership and made an appointment for the next day. the next morning, the same thing occurred while driving my daughter to school (i was able to pull off the road), and again, about 50 feet from the ford dealership. after evaluation, they said that the throttle body needed to be replaced. the part would take 2-3 days to order. they did not offer me a rental to use instead of my unsafe vehicle, but after i pushed, i was able to obtain a rental vehicle. i was not about to spend 5 days driving a vehicle i could not trust to be responsive when i needed it. numerous other ford vehicles have had issues with the electronic throttle body, resulting in an extension of the warranty for this part. after doing more research, i believe ford needs to add the edge to this list: http://www.fordproblems.com/problems/electronic-throttle-body.shtml. *tr
I was driving down a busy city street with my daughter when my car started to lose power and proceeded to stall in the middle of the road. a warning light (the wrench) popped up while this happened. i was luckily in the right hand lane and was able to steer the vehicle off of the road into a private drive. the vehicle then completely lost power. i was able to start the vehicle and tried to drive down the private road when the vehicle again started to lose power and stall. i then called aaa and had a tow truck pick up my vehicle and tow it to a local ford dealership. i was told the next day by the dealership that is was a faulty throttle body and that the part just happened to not be covered under my extended warranty. why is a part that can cause a car to stall out while driving not covered under an extended warranty that the ford dealerships are selling to their customers? furthermore, after seeing so many posts about this particular part on this website as well as numerous others why is there not a recall on these faulty throttle bodies? this a lot like what chevy did with their ignition switches (which we happen to own a cobalt and are going through that mess right now) allowing faulty parts to be placed into these vehicles which can cause the potential for serious accidents. i just thank god that we were not on a major highway in the middle of rush hour traffic. something needs to be done about these parts and ford needs to look into the "extended warranties" that they are allowing their dealerships to sell. i am furious with my dealership right now and have a call into the east coast regional office regarding this situation. *tr
The "door is ajar" (left rear) warning light is on even though the left rear door is properly closed and locked. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford edge. the contact stated that the door ajar indicator remained illuminated and the automatic door lock system failed to function properly. also, the contact mentioned that the failure caused the dome light to stay illuminated while the vehicle was in motion. the failure occurred daily. the vehicle was taken to a dealer. the technician was unable to diagnose or repair the vehicle. the manufacturer was notified of the issue. the failure mileage was 29,513.
Faulty sensor in the door causes the car to think the driver door is open. door ajar light stays on and vehicle will not lock when driving! lights eventually time out but when inside the car, the doors do not lock! i have had it fixed three times now and it always comes back.
I have a 2011 ford edge and at 70,000 miles, my door ajar light stays on even though my door is closed. i can't lock my doors while i'm driving which worries me since i have a 5 month old baby. my battery dies because my interior lights stay on due to the door being "ajar". i've also heard that my airbags may not deploy in an accident if my interior lights are on. that's a scary thought! i've been told that the sensor to the latch is just dirty and that it needs to be cleaned off which would cost me $450! then they said that they could just replace it. this is ridiculous! ford needs to fix this problem! i've always loved ford, but after owning this vehicle and having this silly issue, i don't think i'll be buying another ford again!!! *tr
The driver side door ajar light stays on .with the light on, the door is not locked when you are driving. this then becoming a safety concern. after much research i am finding out this as been an on going problem for quite some time, and ford has done doing nothing to fix the problem.
The door ajar light remains on all the time, elluding to the driver's door being open, when it is not. will not allow me to lock my doors when driving, making it unsafe and wearing down my battery. *tr
Door ajar sensor does not work properly on the driver's side front door. the sensor says the door is ajar, but it is not, and will not go off even after opening and closing the door several times. the interior lights stay on, which is a hazard when driving at night. *tr
Door ajar light for drivers side stays on continuously even when door is closed properly. interior lights remain on until a certain speed is reached. when vehicle is not in use the interior lights turn on and off as if the door were being opened and closed. i have replaced the battery once and have yet to replace the door switch. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford edge. the contact stated that after closing the front driver side door, the ajar door warning light remained illuminated. the contact stated that the interior dome light failed to power off, causing a glare while driving at night. the failure recurred numerous times. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue. the failure mileage was 30,000. updated 03/17/15*lj updated 06/18/2015 *js
The passenger door ajar warning light comes on when the door is properly shut. this causes the interior lights to stay on until you begin driving the car. in one instance the light would not go off after parking the car, shutting all doors and locking the car. the light stayed on overnight and drained the battery. we have since pulled the fuse to eliminate the light problem. i have researched this problem on the internet and it appears to be happening to many people. this should be recalled and fixed by ford. *tr
Door ajar sensor is activated even though the door is not ajar. i have to slam the door several times to get it to work. this is a safety hazard and very annoying. the doors will not lock if it is ajar. *tr
Driver's & left back door ajar signal stays on when door is closed. some noise appears when handin out the steering. *tr
I loved everything about my 2011 ford edge limited awd, i've had it less then two months . then one morning as i was commuting to work i lost power to my edge. the weather was clear approx. 68 degrees, a beautiful friday morning i was driving i felt a jolt like a kick in the transmission that was followed by a flash of the tool symbol & ?awd off? on my front instrument panel. i lost acceleration power. i had nowhere to pull off on the side of the road and had just came out of a sharp curve. all i could do was put the edge in park. turn off, then turn back on, it started right up luckily. the next day my husband took the edge to a ford dealership. the service dept. hooked up the edge and found no problems/errors/codes. although they said it is probably the throttle body, since they have had several ford edges come in with the same problem. i have googled ?losing power while driving my 2011 ford edge? and didn?t relies that this is the #1 problem with ford edges, you would think that ford would do something about this. after reading all the comments i saw information on the ?throttle body? being replaced. several people posted their edge had a code p2111 or p2112 (pertaining to the throttle body). i called ford and they told me this would not be covered under warranty. help! i have a small family now i'm scared to drive! *tr
Driver door ajar light remains on even after door has been closed numerous times. *tr
The alarm comes on for no reason. the front driver panel says the rear left door is open, even after closing it repeatedly, the panel still says the rear left door is open. *tr
The driver door latch sensor (driver door ajar) will not go out after closing the door. the interior lights stay on and the doors will not lock because of it. this is a safety issue since anyone could just walk up and open your door since it will not lock. i had the same issue with my 2008 edge this is a known problem that has been going on for years why is nothing getting done about this to make them put a recall out for the problem?
Driver side door ajar light has been on since i purchased with 20k mileage used. lights stay on for 5 minutes, and will not allow me to lock doors in bad neighborhoods. i have replaced 2 batterys already , and now have 45k on odometer.
The "door is ajar" (left rear) warning light is on even though the left rear door is properly closed and locked. *tr
Driver door adjar stays on, lites will not turn off in car and door lock will unlock and not work when this is on. it has started doing this again while going down the road lite goes on doors unlock. this has happen since we purchased the vechile had it repaired once.
The "door ajar" warning light started coming on, intermittently at first and then continuously. bad sensor. when this occurs, the doors will not lock using the latch and the interior lights stay on for a time. the only way to lock the doors once inside, is to use the key fob. this can be quite dangerous if not in a good area. this problem has drained my battery on more than one occasion. the problem has been diagnosed, however, most ford dealers want to charge customers $215 plus for diagnostic fees. only then will they repair the problem. my car is still under warranty, so i still wind up paying about what it costs to repair it. (??) car part stores will run a diagnostic for free... this seems to be a chronic issue. when i researched it, tons of information about this specific problem surfaced. it seems ford will not issue a recall when it is so obviously needed.
At first, about a week or so ago, door lock sensor indicated right front door not closed. warning appeared on dash. automatic locking at 10 mph ok happened for a while, but within past few days, auto lock does not happen. in fact, if door locked manually after starting, all doors automatically unlock within seconds--whether vehicle parked or in motion (with ignition on). in short, locking doors is not possible and all doors are unlocked while driving. locking doors is only possible when vehicle is parked and motor is off. *tr
The door latch sensor says door is ajar. doors can not lock, and dome light stays on. ford refuses to acknowledge the issue, however this problem is common place. *tr
The "door ajar" warning light comes on intermittently and has drained the battery at least 4 times over the past 10 months. the dead battery has left me stranded on several occasions. *tr
The driver side door ajar indicator stays on, even after numerous firm slams of the driver - this causes the interior lights to stay on and also annoys while driving. door is securely shut and locked and indicator continues to stay on. *tr
This first happened the day after having the car serviced at a ford dealership. my wife said she got in the car, shut the door as usual and started the engine. immediately, the door ajar warning light came on showing the driver's door being ajar. she opened & closed the door numerous times, and finally the warning light went off. a week later, this is still happening at various times with no rhyme or reason. also, when exiting the car and attempting to lock the door by using the swiping motion on the door handle, which has worked like a charm since we drove it off the dealership lot in september 2010, the door does not lock, nor does pressing the last two buttons on the keyless entry pad. once again, open the door - shut the door one or more times, and it works. looking at several others that have taken the time to look-up how to post a complaint on this site, i would think it would be time for ford to step-up to the plate and offer a free fix to those with this problem. while this may not warrant a full recall, i think it is enough of an issue for ford to address by replacing the defective sensor and not just a "cleaning" that is only a temporary fix. *tr
My door ajar light keeps coming on when my driver side door is clearly shut. looked up multiple forums and found other people with the same problem. why hasn't there been a recall? i shouldn't have to pay $400 for this fix! *tr
Door ajar lights constantly on saying doors are open. lights stay on because it thinks doors are open. cannot lock from keyless entry pad. this happened about a year ago not sure of date that's why i didn't list. it is drivers door again and rear passenger door. two at a time! rear door is hardly used. very disgusting and costly repairs again . *tr
Driver's door latch reports door is ajar, which prevents car from locking doors when car is moving. other side effects - can't use touch-lock features, lights are staying on after car is locked etc. *tr
Car reports drivers door is ajar. interior lights stay on while driving and doors can not be locked while driving. keypad can not be used to lock car. after locking car with remote, lights stay on for an extended period of time leading to fly battery.
Driver door latch reports door ajar when door is closed. this prevents doors from being locked while moving. this causes dome lights to stay on after parked and inability to use touch lock features. *tr
Door ajar indication on dash for both the driver side front and rear doors began to be intermittent even after the doors are shut tight with multiple closures. car lights would stay on and car battery would be discharge (would not start and electrical system failures. i had to removed the interior lights front over the dash, rear ceiling lights and trunk lights to prevent the battery from discharging. battery still be discharged but less fast. car now begins beeping horn when the battery gets low. car will not lock unless the key fob is a significant distance from the vehicle. car has keyless entry and will not lock under any circumstance. estimated repair will be over $400.00 and this is not guaranteed to fix the problem will not re-occur since ford has not fixed the design of the door lock assembly. *tr
Vehicle displays driver side door ajar. no matter what you do to close the door, it wont turn off. it doesn't allow the doors to be locked when driving and the alarm to go off constantly. this in effect causes you to get a costumed to your alarm going off and not really knowing when it is legitimate. also if another door is ajar you can get so used to seeing the "driver door ajar" light that it can be confused for any other door. including a rear door with children passengers. i've read hundreds of the same complaint. ford needs to issue a recall. *tr
In may of 2014 my ford edge has been having problems with the drivers side door being ajar. when the door is shut the dome lights stay on until you go put it in drive and go over 20mph, then they shut off. thats the only way to turn the lights off. its a door sensor issue that needs to be addressed asap. the door is completely shut and the dash icon says "driver door is ajar". it kills the battery and we need to jump it every time we use the vehicle. i just bought a new $109.00 battery and next week i'll take it to ford to pay the 500+ dollars for a new sensor. this is a serious issue and it is a very dangerous hazard when operating after sunset. driving with the dome light on at night is very dangerous for my family. built ford tough?
Driver door ajar error. *tr
Door ajar stays on after door closed. *tr
