We have classified the 630 complaints from 2011 Ford Edge about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
I was driving my ford edge on route 303 in phoenix at about 60 miles per hour when the car suddenly started shaking and losing power. it allowed me to drive a very short distance until i was able to stop the car, in a turn lane with a tractor trailer on my tail ...very disconcerting! a yellow wrench light was showing along with some notice about my traction being off, i believe. after sitting a few minutes i was able to move it off the turn lane and into a fairly safe lane ahead. fortunately a policeman pulled up behind me and i shut off the engine and called aaa for a tow. 20 minutes later, i turned on the engine which now seemed fine so the policeman suggested that i pull forward into a safer area. after doing sotheby's car seemed fine again so i drove it to my daughter's house several miles away and cancelled the tow. i have been researching this issue on line since and this has happened to many edge owners who have feared for their lives when the same thing happened to them. some say cleaning or replacing the throttle plate seemed to work but others have found that the dealers insist nothing is wrong after testing it.... it seems to have happened too many times for nothing to be done.... i think a recall is in order so that the dealerships can find out what the problem is before someone loses their life, if that hasn't already accur. i have a 2011 ford edge.
The suv gave me a blinking engine light. decoding to a misfire problem. the first time i had the car looked at they replaced the coil packs. about 10,000 miles later i got the same misfire problem. some of the coil packs were melted. i had the suv towed to a garage and they said the engine control module is defective. they replaced the control module for $1500.00. yikes. dealer told me that ford motor company knows the ecm is defective but won't recall so i have to pay for their screw up. want a refund from ford.

The front passenger door ajar light randomly comes on and stays on which keeps on the interior lights. causing passengers to feel u safe as nd making it dangerous to drive at night and nearly impossible to back up. the parking lights come on and off a out of nowhere draining the battery which leaves it dead.
Passenger door latch door closed sensor failed. requires 30+ closures of the door for the sensor to dim cabin lights and keep doors lockes. when driving down the road if door sensor does not recognize it is closed, will unlock all car doors making it possible for a backseat child to open doors while in motion.
My ford edge 2011 3.5 6cyl while in motion, stopped running and three new electric modules and 6 cores had been replaced and the unit still doesn't run normal and has a burning smell in the motor. unit has been for the last 1 month at the authorized ford dealer and now they want to charge me the catalytic. almost +2k in bills.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford edge. the contact stated that due to a door lock failure, the battery was drained. the contact also stated that the door locks failed to operate as intended. the vehicle was taken to (krieger ford, inc. 1800 morse rd, columbus, oh 43229) for a diagnosis. the contact was informed that the passenger's side lock actuators needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired twice however the failure recurred. the manufacturer was made aware of this issue but did not offer any assistance. the approximate failure mileage was 71,000
Vehicle was traveling apx 35mph went to depress brake at stop light, brake felt stuck halfway, vehicle did not slow down and then brakes make a high pitch beep sound when fully depressed.
The door ajar light intermittently stays on even when all doors are closed. the light stays illuminated while driving or stationary. it is now causing the car alarm to go off randomly at all hours. this is a safety concern to as the automatic door locking when putting the car in drives does not activate. i have read years of complaints on the ford owner forums. it's time for ford to issue a recall to fix the problem. it's obviously the door latch switch which costs $400.00 to have replaced. please help. my neighbors are very upset about being woken up at all hours, but i do not have $400.00 to have the issues fixed. this has been happening on and off for over 2 years, ever since the odometer read over 50,000 miles.
After years of door ajar issues and replacing the battery multiple time due to the dome lights and headlights coming on randomly because of the door ajar sensor issue, the door started alarming randomly. after this one of the doors (rear right) stopped opening and was permanently locked. after taking it to ford, the service department exercised the locks and the door operated. one month later while my child was getting into the vehicle (stationary) at school the door failed to close. after using the seat belt extension to tie the door closed, i took the vehicle in to replace the rear right door, except the other three doors continue to have similar issues and now i fear the door opening while driving.
Passanger door latch sensor and rear passanger door latch sensor malfunction both of the latch sensors are not working the doors are closed but the sensors indicate the doors are open, and makes the vehicle not to locked whenever i am driving. i strongly believe this is a safety issue, i am saving money to fix this, but in the time i extremely worry about my kids while i am driving with them, i did some search online and a lot of ford edge owners are having the same issue. thank you for your time.
1.drivers door ajar light warning stays on. 2. head lights. the door ajar light and dome light stays on have too repeatedly slam the door for light to go off. also headlights goes out at night sometime the right light goes out or the left some times 4th they both will go out have to switch the knob back to off position and then turn back on to get the headlights back on.
Door ajar warning always on even when doors are closed. dome lights remain on and unable to lock or secure the vehicle. drains battery leaving me stranded. it remains on when the car is on, off, moving, not moving, with or without occupants.
Display screen is black. no radio, sync, climate controls etc. was told by the local dealer that the a-pim module needed to be replaced. very expensive. why did this happen?
First of all the first problem i encountered with my vehicle was the passenger wheel barring was defected and started making a bad noise so took it to the shop and the mechanic said lucky i did because is was about to break and cause my wheel to come off going down the road. after that i noticed that my engine would run hot if i sat still in the parking lot just running even with the ac off. i had no warning that anything was wrong. i turned my car off and it didn't seem to do it anymore until we started getting this really hot weather this may, me and my family was going in to town to grab a bite to eat when (without any warning) my car starts sputtering as if i put bad gas in it. my husband instructed me to pull over and take a look and low and behold my car has been running hot just after driving only 10 minutes. he pulled the dipstick and oil is milky and oil was all in the water resivour. my car had over heated without any warning that anything was wrong and blown heat gasket and cracked heads. my engine shot. we took it to the shop where i had to purchase a new engine and after the mechanic ran a diagnostics test on my car he said that the fan control module was faulty which did not allow my cooling fans to come on at all and my system never alerted me either. we replaced cooling fans along with module. everything seems fine after 2,000 dollars later. fyi never rely on your information screen to tell you if your running hot, go to settings and keep your screen on the temp gauge at all times so you will know for yourself how cool your engine is running. i would be nice after all the complaints ford has received about these piece of crap cooling fans that they will just suck it up and do the recall. we are hard working americans and dont deserve this crap. we support ford an american car manufacturer and expect the same respect!!
Hazard warning touch button quit working -- touch the button and it doesnt work part is integrated into the sony touch control panel/ screen water pump failure without warning -- destroyed the engine -- started as sporadic overheating that thermostat was replaced aliviated it for a short time then it started over back to the garage -- couldnt find anything -- suggested turn engine off then back on to see if temp sensor was the issue -- stopped again for a while then it happened again -- also cam sensor failure when this occured -- took to garage temp sensor cam sensors and thermostat replaced -- system flushed -- garage started it up -- overheating again -- now engines seized
Car doors show doors ajar and interior lights stay on and run down the battery. no amount of closing doors using force or with fob seems to work. my 16 year son is about to start driving and my complaint is that he may be stranded if the battery is depleted. linterior lights stay on all night due to this problem. lights only go out when car is moving...
Back up camera stopped working. message appears saying " camera unavailable please contact dealer" when placed in reverse.
Door ajar warning light appears on the dash even when the door is closed. there is no way to clear the alert/alarm and it becomes very hazardous when driving while it is still dark and the dome lights are on signaling the door is open. this warning will come on at any time- while stationary in my driveway, while driving, etc. there is no specific time it happens.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford edge. the contact stated that the door ajar and lift gate warning indicators illuminated when the vehicle was started. the contact stated that the doors were not open when the indicators illuminated. the contact also stated that the backup camera did not work. additionally, when the gear was in reverse, a noise was heard from the front end of the vehicle, which caused the vehicle to stop before moving again. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the body control module needed to be replaced and advised the contact to take the vehicle to a dealer. the vehicle was taken to purvis ford lincoln (540-898-3000, located at 3660 jefferson davis hwy, fredericksburg, va 22408) where the contact was informed that there was no recall. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and provided a case number. the vehicle was repaired by owner. the failure mileage was approximately 90,000. *tr*jb
Door ajar light stays on when door is closed, light will turn on minutes or hours after locked overnight and is draining battery. light on while driving at night is very distracting and interferes with night vision. cant lock doors when driving so door could open in a crash.issue continues
The "door ajar" indicator continues to be an ongoing problem. i have had it looked at numerous times at the dealer, and they've only "cleaned" the sensor, and let me know it's not a recall item. this is a definite safety concern in that the interior light stays on constantly, and make it very unsafe to drive or have good visibility when backing up. numerous times i have been in a parking lot at night, the interior light is on (due to the door ajar false indicator) and you can barely see out the windows. i continue backing out of a parking spot and realize there is a pedestrian i just couldn't see due to the interior light staying on. i have also had close calls with pedestrians on a sidewalk/walking by as i am backing out of my driveway at night. the light also continues to stay on even after i've backed up and have now put the car in gear and am moving forward (driving). it seems to go out at about 10-15 mph. but even at that speed with an interior light on, and it is not safe. i can't believe it hasn't been recalled yet. there's no way ford can claim this is not a safety issue. i have also googled this issue and in addition to this nhtsa website, there are so many complaint sites and blogs about this same issue. it needs to be investigated and looked into further for a recall. not acceptable, ford!!!
Continuous failure of collision warning system that eliminates the use of cruise control. warning has to be acknowledged and shut off via ok in controls. this occurs at start up.
Notification of door ajar after entering car on driver side. alert happens 80 % of the time when entering the car from the driver side.
Bracke light, and abs light comes on. we think its the control module and internal electronic failure. back up camera has not worked in a very long time. i am told its very expensive. another lady who was at the same mechanic had the same problem. im disturbed and not happy with eclectronic failure. i dont think its normal. can you do anything to resolve this problem?
The on screen door ajar warning shows door open when non exists. this keeps the dome lights from shutting off and can interfear with unlocking or opening other doors with the remote. sometimes the dome light dome light stays on leaving my battery dead and me stranded.
2011 ford edge. the rear drivers side door sets off the open door sensor even when the door is fully closed. the interior lights will stay on and will only shut off if you close the door about 20 times every time you get into the car.
I was driving home from work at approximately 40 mph when an orange wrench popped on my screen and with no warning my car started jerking and sputtering and then quit working and completely decelerated like i had switched my car in neutral. i pressed the gas and nothing happened when i was in the middle of an intersection! i was able to get my car out of the roadway using some of my momentum but i was lucky i was not on an interstate or somewhere else. i was told my throttle body needs replacing. i looked into this issues with the 2011 edge and apparently there was a notice put out on this throttle body in other vehicles for causing the same problem and leading to very dangerous situations, however mine wasn't included even though i had the exact same problem. i take great care of my car - oil changes every 5,000 miles and special maintenance when necessary and it doesn't even have 100,000 miles on it.
I was driving and suddenly the electrical system just shut off. and the panel said check manual. i was driving up a ramp in a parking lot.
Takata recall the door ajar message displays on my 2011 ford edge vehicle constantly and the door is shut. the lights stay illuminated because of the door ajar sensor not working properly. also i can not lock my doors when i am inside the vehicle when the engine is on which is unsafe in my opinion. i have seen that many people have stated this has happened to their ford as well, but a recall has not been issued.
Soon after starting my car and putting it in reverse, the passenger door ajar indicator came on as well as all the interior lights. the passenger door looked securely closed, but i tried closing it again to be sure. the passenger door ajar indicator stayed on as well as the interior lights, which made it difficult to see at night. since then it has stayed on every time i drive the car. additionally, i am not able to lock the car doors when it is in motion because of this problem. i took it to the shop and they said the actuator was faulty. apparently this is a wide-spread problem with the ford edge.
I first noticed this problem when i turned on the vehicle in my garage and the passenger door ajar indicator came on as well as all of the interior lights. even thought the door looked to be securely closed, i opened and closed the door again to be sure. the passenger door ajar indicator and all the interior lights stayed on, which made seeing at night while driving very difficult and dangerous. additionally, i was unable to lock the doors of the car because of this problem. the technician at the shop said it was a faulty actuator and that many ford edge's have had this problem.
About 2 months ago my front passenger door ajar light started to come on when the door was clearly closed. it since increasingly gotten worse to the point where it always comes on any time the door is opened, and sometimes while driving. it is a safety hazard at night while trying to drive as the dome light will not turn off, as well as the doors will not lock, & it continues to drain my brand new battery that was just installed.
Driver door ajar light continuously lit.the door is closed but the dome lights remain on.
Tire pressure and door sensors failure.
Door sensor states door is open, when door is closed. interior lights remain on and doors remain unlocked. can have issues with doors unlocking when parked, leaving a issue for being robbed, also lights can remain on which will drain the battery. lights will also stay on while driving which is an issue at night.
Sync radio goes in and out and the screen goes completely dark for awhile, sometimes last hours and sometimes lasting days. dealer claims the radio is updating itself. during this period the backup cameras don't work along other functions connected to the screen. this happens when the vehicle is moving as welling as stationary times.
The door ajar light stays on despite all doors being closed. this in turn prohibits the doors to lock on the vehicle (while driving and parked).the dome light will turn on intermittently, this includes during night time driving and when parked - both creating major safety issues. battery drainage - being left with an inoperable vehicle. visibility - severe glare and limited visibility while driving in darkness. personal safety - doors not looking creates a threat to personal safety (there is a reason car doors lock automatically within a few minutes of takeoff - personal safety). in addition to this, the backup camera went out at 50000miles. so disappointed!
On the highway my advanced service traction light came on and so did the abs light.also my passenger door is shut but my light in my car is on and the door ajar warning code comes on with the door shut. and comes on while i'm driving and i have to pull over to try to get the light off.
The door ajar light for my driver's side door will not turn off. it's a safety hazard, as i have no idea if my door is closed or actually ajar and i drive on the highway often. i have an extended warranty i bought with my car, and was sold this as bumper-to-bumper everything covered besides the brakes and tires. the ford service center wanted $450 to repair since they won't cover this under my extended warranty. they won't give me my car back without paying a $100 diagnostics fee. 10 seconds on google shows this is a common problem already being investigated by nhtsa. please do not let up. this needs to be recalled, or covered under warrenty.
The left rear door closed switch failed causing the interior lights to remain illuminated continuously. this caused the battery to be drained while the car was parked, stranding my daughter and mother-in-law.
My vehicle has an issue where the hud will stay on occasionally after turning off my car and leaving it. this drains my battery, leaving my car completely dead. at one time it was unable to even jump start. this has happened twice, when the vehicle has been shut off. also, any of my controls for radio/volume/cruise control/etc. will often freeze or suddenly jump up or down. this happens randomly, regardless if the vehicle is in motion or not.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford edge. when the vehicle was started, the door ajar warning indicator illuminated. the contact mentioned that all the doors were completely shut; however, the warning indicator continued to remain illuminated. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic for diagnostic testing or repairs. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 65,000.
Our 2011 ford edge, which we bought new from a local dealership, now has an odometer reading of just over17,000 miles.after experiencing the interior lights coming on and remaining on without the switch being used or the doors opene,we noticed that the'drivers door ajar' warning came on and the door was actually closed tightly.the interior door locks would engage and release repeatedly while driving.this was the greatest cause of alarm for us because our small great grandchildren often ride with us. our battery went bad and from what i can determine, this may be the reason.my wife is the principal operator and no longer feels safe in this vehicle with this problem existing.i have contacted fomoco customer service and there is no recourse other than pay the dealership to repair/replace the actuator.i feel that as many problems as have occurred with these parts,a recall should already have been done by ford...this problem has occurred in traffic and also while parked in our drive.thanks for allowing me this opportunity.
I have the infamous "door always ajar" problem on my ford edge. the problem seems to be the door latch assembly that gets corroded and stops indicating the door is closed. when the car is in motion, the locks won't lock, posing a hazard in a accident, imo. if this is at night, the interior lights come on and this could potentially cause the driver to be startled and cause an accident. if it is parked the interior lights won't go off and drains the battery, possibly stranding the driver in an unfriendly area. i love this car but i can't trust it or drive it until it is fixed. that the manufacturer is well aware of the problem and it is of their own making and they refuse to do anything about it is unacceptable. thank you for giving me a chance to do something about this and for your work at keeping the public safe!
Driver door ajar light remains lit after closing. no obvious physical defect. dome/interior lights remain illuminated, doors will not lock even while the vehicle is underway. center display remains powered/illuminated when the vehicle is turned off and doors are closed, causing total discharge of the battery.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford edge. the contact stated that after stopping the vehicle, the vehicle failed to shut off while the shift into park error warning light illuminated. the contact stated that the vehicle failed to shift into park and the emergency brake was operated in order to park the vehicle. the contact called bob boyd ford dealer at 740-654-1122 where they informed the contact the price for a diagnostic test. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that there was no recall. the approximate failure mileage was 160,000. the vin was not available.
Door ajar warning light won't go off. interior lights stay on and doors won't lock.
Door ajar light stays on even though door is closed which prevents doors being locked while vehicle in motion. even though car is parked and turned off, interior lights stay on.
Driver's door ajar warning light stays on even when door is closed. interior lights stay on for a while after you start driving. doors will not automatically lock and if you lock them they will automatically unlock when driving. when exiting the vehicle and you go to lock it, the horn sounds twice indicating the door is not shut, and the interior lights remain on for a while. real pain. ford needs to get this figured out and recall these defective vehicles.
