We have classified the 630 complaints from 2011 Ford Edge about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
Door ajar signal comes on dash signaling drivers door is not closed. all doors will not lock and dome lights stays on. reclosing door does not change status. *tr
Driver door shows ajar but is not this is an intermittent problem and causes spontspontaneous doors to unlock. and the electronics in the car to turn on without keus present. drains battery frquently. *tr
Driver's door sensor failed - car won't sense that the door is closed when it is. *tr
First door ajar warning would come on,when you closed door it would go away.now it just stay on, the lights say on and the bells chimes. i see theirs a lot of complaints on the internet. please help!!! this is not in my budget!! thanks *js
1.the window motor has malfunctioned since i bought this car and has been replaced twice under warranty but same issue continues. when you close the driver window it automatically comes right back down, and takes many attempts to manipulate the window to actually close. 2.my door ajar light indicator came on while door was closed. it leaves the interior light on because of false read indicator. that started a number of electrical malfunctions, including door locking issues. while driving with my 2 year old grandchild, she opened the door by herself during travel because the doors will not lock during travel.(she was in a certified car seat, nevertheless it was terrifying and is a safety issue). i had my vehicle in for this "latch malfunction" in september 2013. the part was on back-order for 6 weeks. (this is suspicious that i am not the only edge owner with this issue). i did call ford customer service, who politely said they would document my complaint. thanks ford. this is an absolute safety issue. i have also owned fords for many years with no problems. the ford edge is flawed badly, and ford will only document your complaint. they will not resolve or take responsibility. *tr
The door ajar light stays on and interior door locks will not lock. this is not safe when the vehicle is in motion. ford needs to issue a recall. i've contacted ford and they have not provided a response. i have three children under 9 and the doors not locking automatically is a significant safety risk and it has been a know issue for over 4 years and ford has even issued a service bulletin regarding the problem.
While driving at approx 35 mph the edge went into a basic "limp" mode, preventing any acceleration. i pulled over and shut it down, it flashed a yellow wrench and said awd off, i restarted it and the next day it happened around 55 mph, shut it down again and restarted it. the very next day it happened a total of 5 times, at various speeds, when will something be done about this? after someone gets killed? truck will be sitting in my garage and i guess we will share our other car, no way in hell am i letting my wife drive this vehicle, it will end up being a "death trap"
I was backing out of a parking spot and the hatch door adjar light came on and started dinging. i stopped turned off the car and opened and closed the hatch back door. this did not correct the problem. i had to drive home 30 miles listening to this constant dinging. when i stopped the interior light would come on, they would go out when i took off again. i called the dealer when i got home, because i just paid $794.00 in june to have the same problem fixed only it was the driver side door adjar and locks. they told me i would need to bring it in for another diagnostics then pay for labor and parts. this is clearly a problem with the eletrical system and i should not have to pay anything for a default on fords part. i can not afford to bring my car in every 2-3 months because of a door sensor. i have only purchased ford veicheles since i started driving in 1981, i am starting to think differently about ford products and service.
Problem: door ajar sensor my ford edge door ajar light comes on and will not turn off no matter how many times i attempt to shut the door. with this light on the doors will not lock and the interior lights do not turn off for a period of 10-15 minutes. my daughter and i drive in my edge everyday, with the doors not locking i find that this can be a very dangerous hazard. today we were driving thru the mall parking lot and a stranger approached my edge as if he were going to attempt to open the passenger door. at the time the door ajar light was on and all doors were unlocked, as the vehicle will not allow you to lock the doors with this light on. lord forbid he would have opened that passenger door and harmed my daughter. does it take a tragedy to happen before the manufacturer decides to deem this problem a legitimate recall..... i have read a tremendous about of complaints regarding this problem, how can this be transformed into a recall issue? what does it take to get ford or the safety board to resolve this?? signed: a caring parent *tr
Door ajar warning light comes on, but door is securely/properly closed. this is not only a dysfunctional nuisance, it's a hazard at night. the interior lights will fade off when you are driving forward, that's easy enough to deal with......but if you are backing up they stay on! you can't see other objects/cars/lights. the interior lights also stay lit if you are sitting in the parked vehicle. you can't leave the key in the ignition either because when you have this "door ajar" problem the warning bell "dings" until you either start the car, or pull your key out. forget enjoying listening to the entertainment system, or programming destinations into the navigation system. just start getting used to that well lit, ding, ding, ding! *tr
The door ajar light stays on even when i slam the drivers door again. the mechanic said that corrosion gets inside the door lock so he sprayed it. just 2 days later the warning light came on again. very disappointed in ford. *jb
Driver side door latch is not recognizing that the door is shut. keeps saying door is ajar when it is clearly closed. as a result, i have to disconnect my battery every time i exit the vehicle to keep my battery from dying since the interior light stays on. when driving, the car door does not lock, the interior light stays on and the warning indicator incessantly beeps. also, the awd went out on the vehicle in the middle of heavy traffic, causing me to have to stop in the middle of the road because i obviously couldn't accelerate. this has happened multiple times. i took the vehicle to ford 3 weeks ago and they stated they couldn't find anything wrong with the car, however, not even a week later, it did it again. i, two days ago, had my car towed to the same ford dealership, where they are now replacing the throttle body. i have a 14 month old child, and the 4 times this has happened, he has been in the car. i have read online that i am not the only one this has happened to, yet there are no recalls for this make and model. disappointed and irritated! *jb
The door ajar light has been coming off and on even when the door is shut. sometimes 5-10 closings will shut the door ajar light off. most of the time my door ajar light stays on. which keeps my interior lights on at nighttime. also not sure my car locks completely as the car honks twice quickly when i try to lock using the wireless locking device. very frustrating, and for the money they charge for ford cars, don't think this should be a problem. have searched the internet and found out this is a common problem that can cost up to $300 at dealerships to fix, and cheapest i have found is $85.00 to buy part from ford and try to fix it myself. *js
Door ajar warning light stayed lit at times, closing the door a little harder stopped working. now the warning is constant and my doors will not lock while driving. all interior lights stayed on until it drained the battery. with new battery the only way the lights eventually shut off is if the car is locked, but the lights do stay on for extended periods of time before shutting off. dealer claims the battery saver kicks in and shut the lights off "eventually" this is not the case if you leave the vehicle unlocked over night. *tr
Driving the blue ridge parkway in nc we entered the first of several tunnels along that route. headlight switch was in auto-on position as it is always. the headlights did not come on as we entered the tunnel as they do at nightfall. i hit the brakes before either running in to the wall on the right or (worse) crossing over in to the opposite lane. almost caused a rear end collision as there was a group of harley davidson's behind us. i fumbled with the light switch to turn on, not knowing exactly which way to turn it (as we don't use it since it is in the auto-on position all the time) last time i trust this. we will just turn them on ourselves. did try to allow the auto-on to work on next two tunnels but it did not. very dangerous ford. why? panic mode, and i'm sure the harley riders were not very happy either. *jb
When closing driver door - door "open" warning shows on dash, sometimes it would go out by reopening and closing door, but now constant. taking it to the dealer. from info on the ford edge forum states this happens in the "limited" model , this appears to be a badly designed door latch. cleaning with electrical spray may fix it for awhile but it will re-occur eventually. *tr
Ford edge 2011 showing driver door ajar and light overhead stays on. it was replaced a year and 2 months ago by ford under warranty. now it happened again out of warranty. this is clearly a recall problem. i went on line and notice over 100 complaints with this same issue. i don't feel safe that my daughter is driving this vehicle with this problem. looks like it is locked but i'm not 100 percent sure. *tr
Drivers side door ajar light is on and does not go out even when the door is closed. this causes the doors not to lock causing a safety concern while operating the vehicle. when parked the interior lights remain lit which causes the battery to be drained and the car will not start. i had it fixed at the dealer under warranty just after 1 year of buying the vehicle new, then the 2nd time was 1 year after the replacement switch now not under warranty at this rate i will need to buy one drivers door switch every year at $400 a pop. i also had to replace the battery too. really! *tr
1) drive door ajar light in dash will not go out. door will not properly shut. extremely unsafe! doors will not lock with this warning/light on as well as the lights inside vehicle stay on for an extended amount of time (up to 20 min) until they go to sleep. which is draining the battery. 2) passenger seat belt locks up with the least bit of movement. so tight that it severely uncomfortable. to find comfort the seat belt has to constantly be unlatched and re latched while vehicle is in motion / driven. unsafe! when researching the door ajar issue it has become very clear that ford has a major defect with this part that has been installed. this should not cost consumers over $500 out of pocket to repair or put their live in danger due to their neglect to repair their product that was defected when manufactured. *tr
The "door ajar" warning on the driver door is constantly illuminated. not sure if it i safe to dive vehicle. *tr
Driver door-open sensor does not show the door closed when it is latched properly. locks will not engage so vehicle is not secured when driving. interior light stays on for a period making it unsafe to drive at night until the light goes off in about 20 seconds. *tr
While driving my 2011 ford edge on the highway going approximately 65 mph at night my vehicle alarm sounded, the interior lights came on, & the computer showed that my driver's door was agar. this was very unnerving & made it very difficult to see as it was dark out & my interior lights came on. this continued to happen on and off while in motion or when idling. it has now become an almost constant problem. i have spoken with the ford dealership that i purchased the vehicle & they advised it is going to cost over $700 to fix. i thought i could live with the issue but during the recent snow storm i found out that because my car thinks the door is agar, my awd is not working. this is insane; either i pay a ton of money or possibly get in an accident! i have noticed that this seems to be a common issue. shouldn't there be a recall??? *tr
Drivers door ajar warning light would not turn off.
Multiple incidents after repair of door ajar switch/sensor will not recognize that the door is actually closed even though the dome lights stay lit and the car gives a warning.
The door ajar warning light will not go off even if the door is closed, which makes the interior lights stay on while driving which is a hazard at night time, creates low visibility, hard to see the road. also the doors lock and unlock sporadically because of the malfunctioning sensor. several people i know with the same vehicle have had the same problem with theirs. seems like ford is cashing in on the 600.00 repair to fix the malfunctioning light.... at the drivers expense, monetary expenses and safety expenses. not ok. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford edge. the contact stated that the front driver side door open warning light illuminated. in addition, the contact stated that the all four doors failed to lock when the vehicle was operated. the vehicle was taken to a dealer, where it was diagnosed that the front driver side door sensor needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 40,000.
2011 ford edge door ajar light and dome light stays on after shutting door. it ended up being the sensor in the front passenger door and front drivers door. the front drivers door sensor was replaced twice in 2013 and once in 2014. the passenger side door was replaced in 2014 and in january 2015. the door sensor issue started at 34,000 miles. we are currently at around 43,000 miles and the door sensors continue to be a major problem. replacing the drivers side door sensor 3 times in 2 years and the passenger side door sensor in 2 years as well should not happen, especially only driving 9,000 miles in those 2 years. something needs to be done about these door sensors that keep going out. ford has said there is no problem, but there has to be after all these replacements. *tr
Drivers side door ajar light is on and does not go out even when the door is closed. this causes the doors not to lock causing a safety concern while operating the vehicle. when parked the interior lights remain lit which causes the battery to be drained and the car will not start. *tr
The drivers side door ajar light comes on disabling the locking and lighting system. *tr
Door ajar light comes on with all doors closed. the drivers door is the one affected. this turns on the dome light which can cause the battery to drain leaving a person stranded. also, it causes the brake and parking lights to come on with no one in the vehicle. the door ajar light also prevents the doors from locking with the key in the ignition. the door ajar light comes on whether the car is turned on or not. the dealer said that they have to replace the drivers door latch. i had ford repair this problem in the past. i have it in the ford dealer again today for the same repair. i've uploaded the receipt from first repair. my car is still being worked on at ford dealership and i don't have the receipt yet for the second repair. i think this should be a recall on this vehicle.
Door ajar light will not go off. car thinks drivers door is open, which makes it unable to lock and lights stay on in vehicle. i have already had to replace the battery once due to this. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford edge. the contact stated that while driving 20 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the failure recurred several times. the vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnosis and the contact was informed that the custom software routine was not reading the correct set of characters, and was not able to identify a bcm. as a result, an electrical short developed and the body control module would need to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the contact was then informed of a recall for the failure under nhtsa campaign number: 11v128000 (electrical system). the manufacturer was notified but stated that the vin was not included in the recall. the failure and current mileage was 47,000.
Door ajar warning light -the drivers door ajar warning will pop on while driving turning on the interior lights. especially dangerous at night. multiple reports of this same issue with the drivers door latch specifically on 2011 ford edges. extremely dangerous. also the light will not go off when the car is parked and that causes the battery to run down because it will stay on at lease 5 minutes after the car is parked, the door is closed and the key is removed. *tr
2011 ford edge, i am the first owner and bought this car new. at approx 2000 miles after the 36k mile warranty expired the drivers door latch switch is messed up. the door will be shutand the system still shows it ajar which causes the interior light to stay on for 5 plus minutes. even while driving the door closed and no warnings the switch will malfunction at night and cause the interior (white) lights to come on. this is a hazzard at night (safety)!!!! i have contacted the local ford and they give me the run around and do not want to cover their defect!! there are more than 7 documented cases on here and even my service advisor said that these year and model are notorius for this problem but ford does not cover! service manager said he has never heard of it (bs). bottom line.... if you will not cover your product i will not buy your cheap product!! looks like toyota will get my business from now on since they cover their product !! this is a safety issue especially for night driving and battery life (stranded on road). *tr
I purchased a certified used 2011 ford edge in january 2013. shortly thereafter, i started noticing some major issues. 1) the transmission whines at low speeds, until i accelerate & it shifts up a few gears. i have also had it slip & clunk while shifting gears 2) there is a loud popping from the front end, passenger side, when i am turning, especially in & out of parking spots 3) there is a whistle coming from under the suv, between the driver side doors & it does it in accessory mode or when the suv is running. i have now had it back at the dealer for the 3rd time & they are working with ford on diagnosing the issues. it is very disheartening to spend so much money for a vehicle & have such issues. thankfully it is certified & under warranty. the dealership has been good about getting me a loaner vehicle too. but i almost am ready to ask them to trade me out of it, because i am sick of dealing with the issues. it is embarrassing to have such a nice looking "new" vehicle & when people ride with me, they notice all the things wrong & say i got a bad deal. *tr
Door ajar light for driver side front door does not go off when door is securely closed. must close door 3 to 7 times for it to go off. i have seen several other reports of this problem on internet. *tr
The drivers door the door ajar light , the switch is sticking causing the door ajar light and interior lights to stay on also the door locks will not engage.saftey issue. have had to repair or replace this switch twice since 2012 at a cost of ore than 500.00 dollars. dealer says they know about the problem but since no recall all they can do is repair or replace over and over again. i know this is a model problem just check. *js
-door ajar signal stays on when door is closed tightly. never do i close the door and the door ajar signal goes away. it is always on. -as such, the interior light stays on the in car making it very unsafe and hard to see at night. -i have the inability t
Driver door ajar light will not shut off but door is close properly. *tr
Door ajar warning light on. interior lights do not turn off until about 20 miles per hour. doors will not lock if you lock the doors they will just unlock even while driving.. this is a real safety concern.
Door ajar lights come on when door is properly closed causing a draw on the battery. needs new door latch assembly from ford, not covered under warranty should be a recall. *tr
The "door ajar" sensor has stopped working twice now (replaced at 32,000 miles and now not working again at 60,000). side effects of this include having the dome light stay on, not being able to use the exterior keypad lock to lock the door (a security hazard for people who commonly use that feature) and excessive battery wear. also, possibly the most severe hazard, the driver could get used to the warning, if not repaired, and not recognize when the door or another is *legitimately* ajar. ignoring the warning could cause potentially devastating results. *tr
The door ajar light remains on when the door is closed. currently this is the 3rd time this has occurred. the first was the driver door which occurred in december of 2012. the latch was replaced by the local dealer under warranty. the second occurrence took place in september of 2014. this time the driver side passenger door malfunctioned. the latch was replaced at owners expense. currently the driver door again is malfunctioning. each time the door is closed the door ajar light remains on. after repeated attempts of closing the door the light may or may not go out. when on the interior lights will remain on. this seems to be a common occurrence with the ford edge especially the 2011 models.
Door ajar warning light will not go away when closing the drivers door and occasionally pops on while driving turning on the interior lights. especially dangerous at night. multiple reports of this same issue with the drivers door latch specifically on 2011 ford edges. in order for the door to close and not have the door ajar warning light come on the driver must loosen the latch before closing the door. even if one does this, it does not guarantee that it would not pop on while driving. extremely dangerous. *tr
Two weeks ago my ford edge limited (2011), which i had for less than 2 years and it had ~21000mi, started to have serious problems. while driving on one of the busiest highways in houston, the acceleration suddenly disappeared (gas pedal went limp) when i was going 65-70mph. the car still had power and i was able to break and steer to the emergency lane. while doing that, almost got hit from the back twice. after complete stop at emergency lane, i restarted the car. it started fine, and i was able to get home, though i was afraid to take a highway. next day, same problem happened twice, and both times at about the same speed. these times, however, i felt strong vibrations when restarting the engine. all of the times, an orange wrench appeared on the dashboard indicating power train problems. after the second time, a light indicating that engine needs to be serviced soon also appeared. this light turned off on its own couple days later. i had plenty of problems with this car before. this was the last point when my patience with this car had ended. besides, i could get into a serious accident. luckily, all of the times i was driving after the rush hour and traffic was not too bad. otherwise, i would be definitely be hit by someone. in any case, i brought the car to the dealership and traded it in. no wonder, i was told in the dealership that they are not aware of any problems like this and offered servicing the car. i refused it, because of multiple problems i had with this car before and just didn't want to keep it anymore. ford definitely needs to recall 2011 ford edge with such problems. i will call them and complaint to them as well. for now, i would recommend people not to buy 2011 ford edge as it has so many issues, especially with electrical wiring/components and sync. this was the most expensive and most unreliable car i've ever had. *tr
Driver side door ajar sensor doesn't work, always.
The drivers door indication is that it is "ajar". the door is fully closed, but electrically the switch indicates that the door is ajar causing the doors to remain unlocked no matter what you do. the interior lights remain on at low speeds making it difficult to see out of the vehicle at night. and due to the doors being unlocked, the rear doors can be opened by children while the vehicle is in motion. the doors are not locked making it easy for someone to approach and open your doors. this situation is extremely concerning. my vehicle was fixed once at 42k miles and is now in need of repair again. in addition to this being a safety issue it is also not covered by the manufacturer and is over $300 per repair. *tr
2011 ford edge the driver side door ajar sensor intermittently malfunctions and warning light illuminates. this causes the automatic door locks to malfunction and the doors to unlock. additionally the interior dome lights stays on for extended times the inability to lock the donors or for the doors to stay locked is a safety issue. i would like ford to accept responsibility for this problem. i paid for this repair as the vehicle was no longer under warranty. this however is a quality and safety issue and has nothing do with how the vehicle was used or maintained. *tr
Driver door ajar light came on when door was closed securely. occurred intermittently at first, but then happened all the time. repaired under warranty. around may of 2013 (out of warranty by a few months) the same thing happened. will cost $300-400 to fix. in the meantime, my doors will not remain locked while driving and the interior lights remain on for a long time before going off, using battery power. in researching this, it appears to have been a problem with ford cars for a number of years. having to replace this sensor twice in three years is unacceptable! *tr
The door latch sensor malfunctions indicating that the door is ajar. doors will not lock neither manually nor electronically. the lf door latch has been replaced 10/12, rf latch replaced 11/13.(both replaced under warranty for malfunction) 9/14 the rf latch again malfunctioned, and was lubricated at a dealer to resolve problem. again at 5/15 the latch again malfunctioned and was inspected. to this day it continues to malfunction. i was advised at the dealership to wait until updated latches are produced. meanwhile, the doors will not lock when driving. when a new design latch is available, i will be required to pay for a replacement latch because the mileage and car are beyond warranty.
