We have classified the 279 complaints from 2006 Toyota Sienna about AIR BAGS into the following categories.
My airbag light began flashing when the car was only a few years old. it would go off for a while then reappear. it appears to be a harness problem that thousands of people are complaining about with this car. and the problem appears to be associated with an under-seat storage bin that rubs against the wiring harness that's beneath the passenger seat. i've now read many, many, many complaints about this and yet toyota refuses to respond. please help.
Own 2006 sienna toyota, with 29,000 miles. air bag sensor light began coming on about a month ago, blinking on when driving van. after about 2 days, the sensor light quit blinking and did not come on while driving again for about 3 weeks. approximately about 1 week ago, the light begin blinking on again when driving and still is coming on each time i am driving. warranty has expired due to 3 year warranty even though i have less than 30,000 miles. going in for scheduled oil change next week and will ask maintenance dept about the sensor light. *tr
I have 2006 sienna le. airbags signal is on and off in the dashboard. its just under 30000 miles and 3+ years. its really frustrating and after deep research it looks like all the owners have similar problems. toyota should recall this asap. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 toyota sienna. the contact stated that at engine startup, the air bag waring light illuminated. the vehicle was taken to both a private mechanic and the dealer. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 30,000 and the current mileage was 51,000.
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 toyota sienna. while driving at approximately 50 mph, the contact applied the brakes but the vehicle did not slow down which resulted in a crash. the vehicle had not been inspected at the time of the complaint. the contact also stated that she noticed problems with the steering mechanism as the vehicle always steered to the right. the air bag service light also illuminated intermittently; the vehicle was repaired for the air bag light failure several times but the problem continued to occur. the current and failure mileages were 59,363.
Tl* the contact owns 2006 toyota sienna. the contact stated that the air bag warning light would illuminate sporadically. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer and was told that the complete seat harness for the front driver seat would need to be replaced in order to correct the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was unknown and the current mileage was 68,000. the vin was unavailable.
The drivers air bags light gets on and off, but mainly keeps on. i took it to the dealer and said it was fine and the light was off all the time that they were checking it, but the problem continued. *tr
I have toyota sienna 2006 bought from koons in october 2006. this car air bag light is blinking and i heard that air bag will not work if this light is on. i just had about 30,000 miles on my car without any accident. this is smooth driven car and the air bag should work after about 3 years. *tr
We have a 2006 toyota sienna. on march 19, 2010 the srs airbag light came on and began to flash. we immediately called the dealership (fred anderson toyota in raleigh, nc) and scheduled an appointment. on march 27th we were told that there is an open circuit with our passenger side airbag. the airbag sensors are not communicating with the computer. we were told that in order to fix the problem they would need to replace the airbag. our car is 3 years old. we have 77,000 miles on it. it is our main vehicle for work, school, transporting our two children. because of mileage we are over our warranty and they refuse to cover the cost of replacing the airbag. we have been researching this problem online and have found several other people who have had this same problem with their toyota sienna. they got their airbags replaced only to have the problem occur again and again. we were also told that because the light is on, there is a chance that none of our airbags will deploy if we are in an accident. this is a very frustrating situation. toyota is once again having problems with sensors on their safety features on their cars. this is not an isolated incident. we are very concerned about the safety of our children when they ride in this car. we asked to speak to the service manager and were told today (march 29) that there was nothing they could do for us. we will have to pay $411 for the airbag and parts and then $340 for the labor or choose to risk our safety and the safety of our children if we are in an accident. when we asked how this happens on a car that we have only owned for three years (bought at the beginning of december 2006 brand new off the lot), we were told that there is "no rhyme or reason" for this defect. toyota can't even explain how an airbag goes bad in three years. this is very concerning. *cn
Air bag srs sensor light flashing intermittently flashing off and on. this is a life/safety issue, as i do not know if i can rely on my srs system to properly function or not. it is also extremely agitating and distracting when driving overnight and/or on long distances, to have a dashboard warning light flash off and on. the srs light was first observed flashing several times in march 2010, but then stopped. it started flashing again while on a cross-state trip in december 2010. as i had, my wife and two young children in the van, i immediately pulled off the road and called the dealership (toyota of richardson, richardson tx). i was advised at that time that it would be safe for me to continue with my trip. when i returned home, i took the car to the dealership. the dealer took no action stating on the service ticket the srs light was "??not flashing today"??. to date, the srs light continues to flash on and off at weeks or months at a time. from the internet, i recently learned that a tsb #284073 (nhtsa action number: 10034130) was issued by toyota to its dealerships back on june 23, 2010 (six months before i brought the vehicle in), as well as three earlier tsb's (el001-08, tsb-0252-08 & tsb-0162-10) all related to srs lamp/sensors . to date, i still do not know if i have a properly functioning srs system. i also note that of the 684 complaints currently registered with the nhtsa, involving the 2006 toyota sienna, more than one-third (33%) of those complaints (234) involve the air bag sensor/light issue. in july 2013, my van was involved in a rear-end collision. the air bag did not deploy. was its failure to deploy due to the nature/intensity of the impact, or the fact that the srs system is not properly functioning? i have no assurance it works properly. at this late date, i guess i'll simply be complaint #685. thank you *tr
2006 sienna airbag light flashing. tech identified defective passenger seat airbag assembly although auto was never in an accident. no reason for failure given other than "you never know about electronic systems." the only way to reset the light is to replace airbag assembly at a cost of $940+ with diagnostic charge and with that you only get a 1 year warranty on equipment that originally lasted slightly over 4 years. as a consumer you would never think that you would have to replace an airbag unless there was an accident or possibly if you owned the auto for maybe 10+ years. in addition, the whole airbag system is inoperable although it has only been determined that the passenger side airbag is defective. consequently, there is no option other than to replace the defective assembly. it is hard to comprehend why equipment with minimal wear and tear would break but from other reports this seems to be a not so uncommon occurrence for toyota siennas. *tr
02-08-2010 under bad snowing weather condition i found that air bags warning light is flashing on dashboard in my toyota sienna ce 2006. 02-10-2010 i was in koons tysons toyota service center 8610 leesburg pike, vienna, va 22182 i got diagnostics report: 'fault code# b0111' and i was "advised that right seat (side) airbag needs replacement $945.50". but it seems to me that diagnostics wasn't done carefully. my vehicle was in outdoor condition under snowing storm. service center hasn't checked engine, transmission, electric, lights' (there are no records about engine, transmission, electric, lights'. in the report). i know that left tail light doesn't work in my vehicle, but i don't see that this issue is mentioned in the diagnostics report. it looks like that service center has checked error code only. so i can't trust this diagnostics report. *tr
I purchased a 2006 toyota sienna, new. in late 2007 the passenger airbag warning light came on. i took the van to the dealership. they checked and "recalibrated" the system to turn the light off. the light came on at least two more times in 2008. the dealership did not know why the light was coming on. a service rep. told me that the sensor under the front passenger seat was being jarred and making the light come on. the dealership did say that there had been similar issues with other sienna's and that a new part being sent to correct the problem. in addition, or as part of adding this corrective part, the dealership replaced the passenger airbag. the light illuminated again in early 2010. again, i took the van in. the service rep. checked the sensor wires under the front passenger seat. the light went off. i asked if the light illuminating meant that the passenger airbag would not deploy'the service rep. said possibly. i asked hypothetically, if i had to suddenly break and something rolled under my seat, hitting the wires, could it disconnect the front passenger airbag. he said yes. so, i asked if that disconnect would prevent the airbag from deploying, possibly in a crash following the sudden brake'he said yes. i was thankful for the honesty, but frustrated none the less. the service rep. did tell me that the airbag sensor problem was not only with my sienna. he said this seemed to be an ongoing issue with the 2006 toyota sienna in general. *tr
Immediately after warranty work on driver side door, the airbag warning light came on (on the way home from dealer). dealer claimed that there was no connection between their repair work and the airbag problem. they replaced the driver side airbag for total cost of $740.00. the warning light went out and stayed out for a few months. when it came back on the dealer said the wiring harness also needed to be replaced at cost of at a cost of $2,250. almost $3,000 for the all the repairs. the dealer cannot explain why the part would fail, or why they replaced the airbag since it did not solve the problem. failure occurred within the 60 months of the warranty but over the 60,000 miles. dealer refuses to pay for any of the repairs. this vehicle has not been in any accident.
Since december, 2009, my 2006 toyota sienna's airbag light keeps coming on, then going off, coming on, going off, etc. i took it to the dealership when it first happened and was told i needed a new driver's side airbag. i was told it would not be covered under warranty. why would an airbag need replacing after only owning my van barely three years? i might add that while my van was still under warranty, they had to previously fix an airbag sensor. when i realized the light would go off and stay off (sometime for a week or more at a time), i called the dealership back (twice). the first time the lady said, "oh, it may come on again, but maybe you'll be lucky". what kind of answer is that? today, i again called the dealership, mentioning how many other people are having this exact same problem with their toyota siennas and the service guy claims to have not heard anything about it. the dealership claims i need to replace the entire airbag. if the entire airbag truly needed replacing, why would the warning light go off for a week or two at a time and come on and go off intermittently? and i also had a previous issue with the airbag while the van was still under warranty. i'm left wondering what the real problem is and the fact that i have now been on several different web sites where other people are complaining about the exact same thing makes me wonder if this should be a recall issue. this problem has been going on for 2-1/2 months. *tr
I own a 2006 toyota sienna and soon as i got it, the airbag light came on. i took it to he dealer immediately and it was repaired but they never gave an explanation as to what caused that to happen. but it is happening again. the light is constantly on and it distracts me when i am driving and am very concerned about the safety of my passengers because i don't know if airbags will deploy in case of an accident. i need help in figuring out what to do and where to take my car. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 toyota sienna. the contact stated the airbag warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where unknown repairs were made to the air bags. upon starting the vehicle, the air bag light was still illuminated. the dealer made a second repair to the air bags. since the repair, the air bag warning light illuminated on two separate occasions. attempts to correct the failure were made a total of four times, all at the contacts expense. the manufacturer would not provide any assistance, claiming they had not received any similar complaints on her year, make and model. there were no recalls. the approximate failure mileage was 21,000 and the current mileage was 69,000.
Front passenger airbag / light 1. the front passenger airbag light repeated is switched to the "off" position when an adult of average size and weight is seated in the passenger seat. 2. we often have to manually plug/unplug the wires underneath the seat to reset the airbag to switch to the "on" position, but this does not always work. we have not yet taken it to a dealership to have this corrected. *tr
Airbags intermittently and unpredictably become non-functional. that is, the warning light goes on and off at unpredictable intervals. i am told by the dealer service representatives that the airbags are non-functional (i.e., system shut down) when the warning light is flashing. this is a severe safety concern to me for the sake of my family. it is galling since the airbag system was a major selling point of the car. attempted repairs by dealer on august 4, 2009 under warranty replaced the airbag assembly on one side but did not fix the problem of repeated intermittent failure. after the vehicle was out of warranty, toyota refused to address their failed attempts at repair, and i was quoted well over $2,000 to fix the problem as per toyota service bulletin t-sb-1062-10 on july 20, 2011. this proposed repair apparently included replacing the previously replaced airbag as well as the assembly on the other side. i delayed the repair at risk to family on account of the extreme cost. also, i appealed to toyota corporate representatives since the problem had been a persistent and unremedied one since during the warranty period. recently, the toyota dealer informed me that a new toyota service bulletin isolates the defect somewhat from previous toyota t-sb-1062-10 and reduces the cost of the repair to somewhere near $400 (although i paid $47.50 to learn that). but after that recent service by toyota on june 20, 2013, the warning light is off again, and the airbags are presumably functioning again for a while. this intermittently has been the problem with getting this defective airbag system fixed under warranty as it should be. also, the intermittent and repeated failure of the units suggests a faulty design and a safety defect that should be addressed in all of the vehicles. i have seen similar airbag concerns of other 2006 sienna owners on various online bulletin boards. *tr
2006 toyota sienna - 40,000 miles. involved in a frontal impact with a tree from a peak velocity of 40-45 mph to an estimated impact speed of 20-25 mph. the vehicle hit square in hood center, deforming everything backward symmetrically 1-1.5 feet. insurance company classified vehicle as a total loss (damage > $16,000). driver suffered multiple left arm injuries including wrist dislocation and fractured forearm bones - resulting because airbag never deployed. i have been in contact with toyota customer service reps for a week and their explanation at first was that the impact speed was not great enough to deploy the airbags. after viewing the pictures, they changed their position to state that because it was a concentrated impact not centered about the impact sensor, and not an evenly distributed load impact, the sensors would not have deployed. unacceptable. i asked the cs rep if we had hit the tree in the exact same spot at 100 mph, would the airbag have deployed and her answer was 'theoretically no'. whether this lack of deployment was by design or not, i feel this is a horrific impact protection philosophy. none of us would choose to be in an accident, and certainly none of us are going to have control over when and where and how fast and at what angle we will make impact. that is the definition of an accident. i guess i am inquiring about the legitimacy of this explanation to me by toyota, and also about the regulations for impact sensor deployment. would it not be wise to employ a third impact sensor at vehicle center, possibly with a higher detonation speed? that way it would not be activating every time there were a 5 mph bump in the grocery store parking lot, but would still deploy if subjected to the type of impact we have just seen. thanks in advance. *tr
Hello, this is my second complaint about a 2006 sienna that i purchased. there seems to be a problem with the air bag light going on and off. when this happened earlier, i immediately took it to the dealer to get it fixed. now, it has come on again and just recently it turned off. i don't know if this is normal, but i would like to know what else can i do so that my family will be secured in case of an accident. also, the automatic slide door on the right that came equipped with it is not working properly. this happened about a 6-7 months ago. this door used to make a beep noise to let us know the door was not shut, and now when we close it, it acts like it is going to close but it opens. in other words, it does not shut unless you force it to shut which is dangerous to my youngest child. *tr
On march 14, 2009 my husband hit a tree head on with the van while trying to avoid a deer. the airbag did not deploy. he hit his head on the steering wheel and broke a bone in his hand. the airbag tried to deploy but failed. part of the section on the steering wheel in front of the airbag separated but the bag did not inflate. *tr
2006 toyota sienna - air bag light flashing on dash. dealer says needs both driver and passenger sensor replaced. cost $995.00 toyota will only cover repair to 60,000 miles - current mileage is 71,000 miles germain toyota where vehicle was purchased sold us a fake ext warranty for 100,000 miles. if we were sold the toyota warranty this problem would have been covered. have contacted the ohio ag office & ohio dept of insurance. *tr
Airbag lite is on. code b0111 open side squib p/s tsc 0252-08 appies. r&r side airbag assembly as per tsb 0252-08. rechecked system working as designed. the entire airbag system does not function when the airbag lite is on. total airbag system failure. repaired and working after repair. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 toyota sienna. the contact stated that the air bag light illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealership where the contact was informed that both the driver side and passenger side air bags were inoperative and needed to be replaced. the vehicle had not been repaired at the time of the complaint. the contact called the manufacturer who stated that there was no documentation on her experiencing the problem and her vehicle was outside the warranty. the current mileage was approximately 73,800. the failure mileage was approximately 9,000.
The air bag warning light on a 2006 toyota sienna came on around 60,000 miles in 2008. the local toyota dealer reset the warning light, and it was fine for a while. since that first time, the warning light was come on a minimum of 5 more times and each time the dealer has reset it. in the last two years, the warning light has been on 100% of the time. dealer said once that the whole air bag system would need to be replaced. all other times, dealer has said air bag system is okay, it is just a problem with the connection. toyota is not fixing this problem. is it going to take someone dieing to get this problem fixed? i guarantee no executive at toyota would drive his/her family in a vehicle with the air bag warning light on. *tr
Air bag light flashing since car was new. dealer found no codes in system and turned light off, said nothing was wrong. light continued to come on for a month or so and then go off, then repeat the process of coming on and off, for the next few years. now dealer says it needs a new air bag for $4,000. *tr
This is the 3rd time the srs (air bag) warning light has came on and stays flashing and will not go off. have had in to toyota dealerships 2 times in the past to get fixed and this is the 3rd time. do not remember dates or milage, but they should be on record if entered by dealerships. both times were under warrenty. this time it has been on for about 10,000 miles or more, and after reading on line about many other people have the same problem, i would like to get this fixed and fixed right. i do not think the cost should come out of my pocket and do not know if the air bags will work when needed or if they can go off while driving this vehicle. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 toyota sienna. while parking the vehicle, it accelerated independently without warning and crashed into the contact's residence. the air bags failed to deploy. there were no injuries reported. a police report was not filed. the vehicle was taken to a dealer. the vehicle was repaired for the damages, but the failure was not diagnosed. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was unknown.
I purchased a new 2006 toyota sienna. in the first 33,000 miles i had three incidents where the airbag lights comes on. each time i took to dealership to inspect, they claim to reset the airbags and it wasn't a problem. they said it was just a loose connection and something may have rolled under the drivers seat and may have hit a processing unit for the airbags causing the light to come on. with this explanation i thought it was a simple problem to fix and they never informed me that it would affect airbag deployment. so in each incident i delayed going to the dealership by thousands of miles, and only until my vehicle require other services would i request that they also check my airbag lights/system. now at 86,000 miles and out of warranty my airbag lights have been on for 10,000 miles. my vehicle requires its 90,000 mile maintenance and so i ask them to check the airbag lights again. they return, informing me that i need new airbags and a wire harness assembly which is to cost $4000 to repair. i have complained about it to erica bryan at toyotas? customer center (case#1012230983) who informed me that their regional office has offered to pay for half of the airbag replacement. i find this unacceptable. had i been informed correctly of the serious effect of my airbag lights going off and the possibility of it malfunctioning or not deploying i certainly would of escalated my actions with toyota early on when it was still under warranty. possibly even evoking the maryland state lemon law. i do not have the money ($2000, 50% of cost)to replace the airbag units at this time, so i am now forced to drive my vehicle without working airbags. *tr
Airbag warning light flashes. car has 150,000 miles on it but this has been ongoing since about 60,000 miles. blinks 3-4 times and goes off. blinks again. if i jiggle the wires under the seat it will turn off but comes back on again eventually. happens from the time the car is started. recurring problem for probably 10 years. been waiting for a fix/recall.
Air bag fault lights for years. dealer has fixed this a number of times pointing to bad plug connectors. have replaced airbags over the years with same problem. informs me that it needs new air bags as the plugs are part of the air bag. very expensive! have learned to jiggle yellow air bag connectors under seat to resolve problem. dealer indicated they adjusted pin connectors in the past? ridiculous as the problem is obviously in the connector and why should i have to pay for a complete air bag. spent enough money on this persistent problem over the years. please see toyota tsb -1062-10 which acknowledges this long time defect.
I bought a 2006 sienna 10/30/2005. july 2, 2006 air bag light was on, making the airbag not working. 3 times had to bring car back, they fixed with garbage tie told by advisor. now i have a problem with the same thing and all i get is a run around, and i am told it's not under warranty. how can a 2 year car with apparently an electrical problem not be covered? on a safety issue? wouldn't it be considered a shop comeback, since the dealership tried fixing it 3 times prior, and i was told to go back there, and not treated any better than in the past. toyota motor co. called up before i got there, and after waiting to be acknowledged, then waiting an additional hour, they hadn't even looked at it. i am a realtor. i do not get paid if i am not working. *tr
Air bag light has been a problem since april 19, 2006. july 2006, and august 2006 dealer had this car to repair. november 2007 light went on again, which makes my vehicle unsafe, since airbags will not deploy if needed. dealer and toyota motor corp are aware of this, and say that i drive my car to much, and ".is not covered by them. was told last repair was fixed by dealer with "garbage ties. *tr
When the vehicle was 11 months old with 12,000 miles the front passenger seat air bag sensor failed and had to be replaced, then at 16 months and 16,438 miles the air bag ecu failed and had to be replaced, then at 17 months and 17,356 miles the drivers side air bag assembly failed and had to be replaced. *tr
My van was under warranty and the air bag light was blinking. i brought to dealer for repair twice, and i was told be the toyota repair shop that it was normal. until now (the van is no longer warranty) through "forum" i know it is something wrong, and it happened to several 2006 toyota sienna. it is safety concerning, and i would submit this for recall. *tr
Air bag light has been on and off for the entire time i have owned my 2006 toyota sienna. it has been taken to the dealer five times and they have finally recommended a replacement after 90,000 but won't cover it even though the initial problem occurred in my vehicle and many others that i have read about, before the initial warranty period was over. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 toyota sienna. while driving approximately 35 mph, with a 200 pound man seated in the passenger seat, the air bag light flashed on three separate occasions. the vehicle was taken to the dealer each time. during the third visit, the passenger side air bag was replaced. the vin was unknown. the current mileage was 27,000 and failure mileage was 13,500. updated 07/29/08 *bf updated 08/07/0
i have a 2006 toyota sienna le ,which have airbag flashing & brake system problem. this airbag problem started within 6 months of purchase & 2 times it was fixed by toyota dealer. but the problem is still exist. when even i make a complaint to dealer they are telling they can't find it. this airbag flashing light comes on when in driving & will stay for 1 hr. or some times stay for 5 days etc.toyota still not diagnose these problem .now my vehicle is less than 32,000 miles .once in every month airbag sign will get on. and braking issue still present. *tr
Airbag warning light came up 1 year (5/18/07) after purchase of vehicle. dealer claims that they cannot find any issues and resets the warning light. 1 year later (6/9/09), the airbag warning light is up once again. this time they replace the passenger side airbag and perform repairs as per tsb. airbag warning light up once again 10 months later (4/1/11). dealer claims that there is no code up and just resets the light. 1 year later, the airbag warning light is up once again (8/18/12) and the dealer will not fix because too much time has gone by since the alleged fix in 2009. airbag remains lit as of today (12/7/12). this should be a recall as the airbag warning light should not be coming up this often and is a very expensive repair to replace airbags. *tr
Air bag warning light came on. toyota replaced driver's seat & sensors. light went off for about 6 mos. light came on again. another dealership disconnected/re-connected plug under drivers seat. light went off. light came on again after about 2 yrs. moved driver's seat up and back, light went off. light came on again in december of 2012. tried moving seat, checking connection under seat, talked to service manager at dealership. was told fix was not covered by toyota. light is still on. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 toyota sienna. the contact stated that the air bag warning lights continue to illuminate and prevent the air bags from deploying. the vehicle was taken to the dealer five times for this failure. on the first two occurrences, the dealer reset the switch. on the most recent visit, the dealer replaced the center air bag sensor. the contact took the vehicle to the shop on may 10, 2007 for the dealer to replace the passenger side seat. the failure has been occurring since december of 2006. the engine size was unknown. the current and failure mileages were 17,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 toyota sienna. while driving various speeds, the air bag warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the poor pin connector lost contact disconnect. the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred numerous times. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 9,200.
To national highway traffic safety administration representatives, this e-mail is sent regarding my alert to the danger and safety concerns to citizens regarding the used car sales at honda of fort myers, florida. due to a "2006 toyota sienna" in fort myers, florida, that was sold as in very good to excellent mechanical condition and free of defects. it is been recently discovered that a major front end accident occurred on 11/16/206 in florida. the impact severity caused functionality concerns and defects to the airbags, airbag sensor, and seat belts which were never repaired properly from this accident and left damaged and defective. sadly, the carfax history had only begun reporting this data on 10/31/2011. the owners or used car dealership neglected to disclose this facts and other severe defects, recalls, and damages that occurred to the engine. the internal damages and safety features were discovered through legitimate diagnostic by toyota. please help me to recover and obtain the police report or record held by law enforcement regarding the major accident incident on this vehicle that occurred on november 16, 2006, in florida. this vehicle may have been a salvage /re-titled but never appropriately and properly repaired for citizens use on the roads and highways. carfax has provided no response to my e-mail to me but carfax began reporting this information on october 31, 2011. in addition, the vin # has appeared in reports as an xle or as a limited model design which implies deception, used car dealership fraud, or misuse of the vin # regarding doing the necessary, required, and correct repairs to make the vehicle safe to drive and perform safety recalls notices via certified mail sent on this vehicle to the owner or used car dealership at honda of fort myers. your cooperation is greatly appreciated. i look forward to hearing from you.
I had no idea so many other 2006 sienna owners have air bag problems like i do. the first replacement was after only 8 months of ownership. the dealer replaced the entire front passenger seat assembly. since then the air bag light went off and on with no pattern to its frequency and has been on continually for at least 6 months despite removing the drawer and inspecting/disconnecting/reconnecting the connectors. right now a piece of black electrical tape covers the light on the dashboard since the dealer will charge $3000 to replace what has already been replaced and did not fix the problem. air bags are not covered under the extended warranty. i feel like i have to tell my front seat passengers that they may not have an air bag protecting them and may feel safer in the rear seats. toyota has a reputation for safety and i am surprised that the company has not done more to fix the air bag problems on 2006 siennas. we bought our sienna knowing we would soon have 3 teen/young adult drivers in the family and we wanted a vehicle that would protect all of us, no matter who is driving or sitting in the passenger seat. *tr
Air bag light on occasionally. dealer found fault code but could not locate the cause of problem. *nm

The airbag light comes on even though the airbags have never been deployed. it goes off for a while then will come back on. toyota will do nothing about it. *tr
In july 2006, about two weeks after purchasing our new 2006 toyota sienna, the airbag off light came on. before we could take it for service someone broke into our mini van and it was in the shop for a month being repaired. the light came on again about a month later, but the dealer, balise toyota in west springfield, ma, reset it during an oil change. in mid october, my wife was broadsided in her door by a honda civic. none of the airbags, including the side curtain airbags deployed. the mini van was in the shop for another month, and the dealer again reset the light, which had come on, apparently during the crash. since october the van has been serviced five or six times for this problem. the dealer's service manager told us in january that toyota in compliance with federal regulations, designed the airbags to permanently turn off if a heavy person rode in the car. the dealership refused to turn the airbags back on again, and claimed that there was no fix for this because it was intentional. other dealers want to charge us for this, even though it should be under warranty. last week, a person at moore of toyota customer care told me that the company's official position was that the airbags were not broken, but rather that my wife and i did not deserve the protection because of our weight. they claimed that they might be willing to buy the vehicle back, but i didn't want them to buy it back. i just want the mini van to work the way it supposed to without having to reset the computer every week. besides, if they were telling the truth about this being a federal law, there were no cars in america that were safe for us to drive. i could not even get my brand new mini van inspected this year because an airbag light was grounded for disqualification. toyota knowingly sold me an unsafe vehicle, one that was designed to be unsafe for 30% of people oh, and now the windshield cracked by the rearview mirror.*ak
