Recently reported AIR BAGS problems on 2006 Toyota Sienna

The air bag warning light started flashing. *tr

Was involved in a mvc where the vehicle went off the road, the front end hit first over an embankment, and then the vehicle proceeded to roll multiple times. there were no airbags to deploy, yet the airbag sensors on the front of vehicle were smashed flat? there wash total loss of the vehicle. requesting an investigation of the vehicle airbags as to why they did not deploy. vehicle has already been released to salvage yard by the insurance company but a "hold" has been placed on the vehicle pending an investigation. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 toyota sienna. while stopped at a traffic light with the brakes engaged, the vehicle accelerated independently. as a result, the contact crashed into another vehicle and the air bags failed to deploy. there were no injuries and a police report was not filed. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 64,000. ..updated 04/23/15 *bf ...updated08/20/15 *bf *js *js

Takata recall i am filing this complaint because i have contacted toyota many times regarding the safety of the airbags in my van. the safety of my family is in question. even though a recall does not come up when i enter the vin in safercar.gov, i am told by toyota that doesn't mean my van won't be subject to a recall in the future. i need to know! my family and i are expected to play russian roulette every time we get in the van.toyota reps are playing a guessing game when they give me information about the safety of my van. they cannot tell me why my van is not being recalled. i need specifics such as who made the airbag in my van, toyota says they cannot tell me this because their lawyers have told them not to give out that info. the person who gave me this info told me they spoke to the executive management where they work and that is all they can tell me. not good enough! i would like to know why nobody will give me a definitive answer that would put my mind at ease. could it be because my van is a 2006 and takata knew of the airbag problems in 2004 but did not admit to it until 2008? can they not tell me definitively because takata tampered with info from 2004 through 2008 before they went public with problem? toyota reps tell me they are going forward with recalls as they receive info from takata and the nhtsa. i cannot trust takata with the safety of my family and for this reason i am appealing to the nhtsa to please give me permission to take my van to a certified mechanic to have the airbags removed. you will probably quote the safety statistic that my chances of being killed in an auto accident are greater without airbags than having an airbag spontaneously explode in my face. before the recall i was never fixated on getting in an accident, now i am a distracted driver worrying if my airbags are going to explode in someone's face. Air bag indicator is blinking in dashboard. this is a continuous issue. not sure if i should continue to drive with the safety issue.

The driver airbag comes on and off periodically. *tr

Airbag warning light has been on since approximately mid july 2014. i received a warranty enhancement notice from toyota (regarding a side airbag connector may have been improperly manufactured in 2006 sienna) which requested that i contact a toyota dealership to determine if this condition is covered by the warranty enhancement "at no charge to you" particularly if the airbag light is on. when i called two different dealerships to check the vehicle, both dealerships told me i had to pay over $100 for the testing. the second dealership said they would cover the fee for the testing only and if the problem was the one listed on the warranty-but i would not know that until after the testing was done-so they would charge me for the screening after the testing ruled out a side airbag connector issue-over $100. i called the toyota number listed on the warranty several times and spoke with toyota representatives but they ultimately stated my issue was with the dealership-not toyota. they refused to put me through to a supervisor only "colleagues". i do not think i should pay anything to be screened for this issue and when i reread the warranty that is what it clearly indicates-" no charge". *tr

2006 toyota sienna air bag light is lit. possible air bag malfunction. received a letter from toyota to make an appointment to fix the problem, but they want you to pay for the diagnostic test if the part they deemed to be defective is ok. this has not yet led to any crash, injury, etc. if there is a problem with the air bag system, and toyota is aware of the problem, and they are as evidenced by the letter received, then these cars should be recalled and fixed with out charge to the consumer. *tr

The driver's air bag light blinks on and off. the issue was traced to drivers seat wiring. the seat wires are easily exposed. the wires get in contact with the driver's foot causing damage to the wires. this leads to a problem detecting a wight on the seat that in turn enables the air bags.

Tl - the contact owns a 2006 toyota sienna. while attempting to drive the vehicle, the air bag warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified. the failure mileage was 79,529. jcc

Airbag light came on so i took my car to the toyota dealership. i was advised that my airbag wiring harness system needs to be replaced. the van has 79k miles and it was only covered for 3 years/36k miles. how is an unused airbag defective? where is the consumer safety? should be a lifetime guarantee especially since the airbag was unused. why should my family be at risk for the product that hinders its usability for the purpose for which it was designed for. *tt

Around 150,000 miles, my airbag warning light started blinking on my dash. it has turned itself off a couple of times but then came back on. there doesn't seem to be a reason for it to turn on or off.

The air bag light comes on as expected when the van is started. then instead of going out, it flashes the entire time the car is on. this happens intermittently. sometimes if the van is shut off and restarted, the light will go out. but then a couple days later, it will flash again. i have no idea whether or not my airbags would actually deploy in the event of an accident. research shows that this is a known issue that has happened to many other people. repairs are expensive for van owners and the issue returns after repairs. please consider an investigation of this issue. there are those of us who cannot afford thousands of dollars to even attempt to fix our vans, and we have no choice other than to drive our families around in unsafe vehicles with our fingers crossed that we don't get in an accident. thank you! *tr

I started up the van and the airbag light is blinking. i tried to unplug and replug yellow connecter put did not go away. *tr

The src airbag (curtain/side airbag) malfunction indicator went off. it has been below of recently. when i googled it, some people pointed it out to the yellow harness under the front seats. i wiggled it a little as some people suggested and the indicator light went away (i don't know if it may come back again). this is a major safety concern to me. anyone could easily break the hardness when they pull the tray under seat. or a car accident when your shoe could accidentally kick the hardness and break it, preventing the side airbag from deploying. it has to be a better way to protect the hardness. especially here in minnesota with below of the hardness get too cold and may become brittle. *tr

Last week, the airbag warning light started flashing constantly while the car is running. a quick read of the owner's manual indicates a problem with the side or curtain airbags. more research on the internet indicates that this is a common problem with siennas from 2006. this is a safety issue, and should be addressed by toyota on a wide scale basis. my car is like new, not used much, never been in an accident and has 23000 miles. it is inexcusable for this to happen, and more inexcusable for the consumer to have to pay to fix it, considering that this appears to be a common safety issue with these cars. please force toyota to issue a recall, to deal with this problem fairly, for affected owners. *tr

The air bag light is blinking, indicating the side curtain air bags are not functioning. there is a tsb on this, #0069-12. a search indicates many problems with this that appear related to a defect in the vehicle wiring. this should be recalled and fixed by toyota. *tr

The driver side airbag light blinks on/off, indicating problems with the airbag. according to my research, this is a common problem with the 2006 sienna that toyota is aware of. *tr

My air bag light went on. it was traced by the sealer to a faulty wire under the from passenger seat. the issue is that there is a drawer right there and the drawer often gets stuck and interferes with the wiring. the wiring is very exposed and can easily get broken! the is a design flaw that affects the safety of this vehicle and should be recalled! i have seen many, many complaints about this issue from similar owners of this vehicle. for example, see: http://www.aboutautomobile.com/complaint/2006/toyota/sienna/airbag i ended up spending a lot of money fixing this, but it really needs to be resolved by toyota. *tr

Srs warning light stays solid on. *tr

Air bag indicator light has begun flashing on the dash under no extraordinary circumstances. when ignition is started the light comes on and blinks at a slow rate until the car is turned off. air bags have never deployed on this vehicle. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 toyota sienna. the contact stated that while completing a left turn, another vehicle crashed into the side of the contact's vehicle. the front air bags deployed but the side curtain air bags did not. the contact, and five passengers sustained head injuries from the impact and were transported to the hospital for treatment. a police report was not filed of the incident. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 120,000. the vin was not available.

The airbag light had come on and off for months until toyota dealership fixed it 2 1/2 yrs ago; the light is back on again and was told i could not get my van inspected with out it fixed. this is a defect with the 2006 siennas - there is no reason the air bag lights should be on. the sliding passenger rear door stopped working- door would not close - had to turn off electronic switch and have to slam the door to keep it closed. this is an extreme safety hazard for passengers. toyota has issued a service call on this but there is something drastically wrong with 2006 toyota siennas. on 10/14/2011 i filed a complaint with nhtsa about this and it took almost 2 years to address this problem. run flat tires wore out early, replaced but had a lot of flats and adding air to tires weekly. run flat rims were not true and had to replace rims and tires . i am the only owner of this vehicle.

Air bag light started to blink, so airbags won't work if there is a crash had to have it fixed at dealer for $600. *jb

Srs light is flashing indicating problem with airbags. *tr

Air bag warning light goes on and off. seems to be a connection issue. *js

While driving on an expressway, without cause or warning, the srs airbag light began flashing. this had happened before at 38,000 miles in april of 2010 but was repaired by the dealer under extended warranty by removing and replacing the driver's seat and related air bag equipment. now the car is out of warranty. toyota needs to address this recurring problem with this model and year as it is a life threatening safety hazard when the srs air bag system in a car is nonfunctional. if indeed the repair is a simple detachment and reattachment of the air bag connectors under the front seats (as reported on the 2006 sienna edmunds consumer bulletin boards), then toyota should make that repair available to all owners of this car (without regard to age of car or mileage) for no cost. these connectors are in a position to be knocked loose easily by personal items in the underseat storage tray or otherwise on the floor of the car. it is a bad design that could have life threatening consequences if an air bag does not deploy. *tr

One morning, just a regular morning as always, i got into my car to drive to work, turned the car on, and the airbag light came on. it continued to flash the whole time i was driving. it has been flashing ever since, every time i drive this car. there was no accidents or any funny business, just out of the blue it started flashing. *tr

Our van has a srs airbag light that flashes for no reason at all. we have not been in an accident or had any incidents with this vehicle. it has under 25,000 miles on it. i believe this issue should be addressed, it appears many others have had similar issues. i am worried about the safety of myself, husband and 3 children. toyota please take responsibility for the airbag sensor problems and help keep our families safe. you would if it was your family! *tr

The airbag indicator light comes on and flashes. this is a known problem with toyota yet they choose not to issue a recall. cost to fix it may exceed $1,500-$2,000. as this is a safety issue, a recall should be issued. toyota service bulletin id: t-sb-1062-10. *tr

My airbag light came on. i took it to a toyota dealership for repair. they ordered the part, but then also informed me i needed a new water pump. i had the water pump repaired, then several weeks later the airbag part came in, but i didn't have the money to have it repaired. i still have the part. now there is a recall on some toyota models, but i did not find a recall specific to my vehicle. i think my vehicle should maybe be included in this recall. what do i need to do? i do not have the money to have the airbag part installed and repaired. just let me say i love, love, love my 2006 sienna. i will keep it until it dies. *tr

Airbag warning light came on - third time since we purchased this vehicle new. *tr

Our srs airbag light has come on and will not go off. we have had no accidents in this vehicle. we have gotten a cost estimate to fix this problem and it is well over $1000. we have read online that there are numerous accounts like this that have not been taken care of by toyota. what should the consumer have to pay for faulty wiring and be in danger of their srs systems not working properly? *tr

When starting the vehicle the air bag light begins blinking and will not go out. based on online information i determined that the harness under the passenger seat may be faulty. i unplugged the harness and replugged it and the light went out. after a few hundred miles the blinking light returned. the vehicle is out of warranty and too expensive to fix. it appears that there are many people with the same issue. please check into the airbag problem on this vehicle. *tr

Air bag light on dash started blinking and has continued blinking whenever vehicle is operated. *tr

Drove van for approximately 20 minutes, parked it for an hour, when i got back in, my airbag light was indicating. called dealer, told me to bring it in for a $150 fee just to read the light. took it to my mechanic who told me the driver's side airbag was indicating and they had received a technical service bulletin about it and had several toyotas in with the same issue. *tr

Air bag warning light is on. *tr

All of a sudden, the air bags (srs) light came on and kept blinking. it stays blinking whenever the car is started. i checked the manual and am sure it is the srs light (not for the seat belt). the car was purchased in dec 2006, and i have not had air bags issue before. really concerned about the safety of this car given the short period of time that i own it. *tr

There was no accident, the srs warning light came on, blinking, indicating an issue with the system. i took it to my dealer, was quoted a repair of $1600 for a new wire harness. i declined. i researched online for several days and found that this is a very common issue with this particular toyota make and model. often people get the repair done and the light comes on within days. this is a safety issue and an issue with the design of the car, not user error. i have never been in an accident, the airbags have never been deployed, so i can't understand why normal use would cause such an expensive repair. toyota needs to do a recall of this make and model or provide a fix that will work. the wire harness for this model is under the front seats, which get moved and jostled daily. the passenger seat has a bin that slides in and out directly above the wires for the srs! i have jostled the wires and the light goes off. so now i don't know if my airbags even work. the dealer wants $150 just to tell me yes or no on that. please look through your records to find more of these complaints as i know they have been filed. here are a few websites where people are discussing the issue: http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r25631560-2006-sienna-with-flashing-srs-light http://www.siennachat.com/forum/64-general-discussion/5846-2006-sienna-airbag-indicator-light.html http://www.aboutautomobile.com/complaint/2006/toyota/sienna/airbag. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 toyota sienna. the contact stated that the air bag warning light was illuminated. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileage was 78,847.

My 2006 sienna was backed into at the passenger rear quarter panel by another vehicle. after about 2 or 3 days the air bag light came on. the body shop reset the airbags. about 2 months later the light came on again. took back to body shop and they had the same b code from the accident and reset. after researching on the web it seems that the front airbag sensor under the seats is the problem and i have to reset them every so often. same issue that other 2006 sienna owners are having. *js

The srs light came on as i was driving home from work. this vehicle has been in no accident and is well maintained. i took the car to the dealer and said that a tsb has been issued. however, my warranty period is over. i believe the car should still be covered. it appears to be a common issue based upon my google search. *tr

Air bag has gone off for no apparent reason repair is above $1,500. talked to owner he meant to say that the airbag light is on, not that the air bags had deployed. *tr

Srs warning light came on, and continues to blink. trouble / diagnostic codes of b0111, and b1152 appear. toyota service bulletin (tsb) 0162-10 addresses this issue. apparently, the terminals / connections inside the wiring harness corrode, and must be replaced. cost is @ $3000 to repair. please look at: www.aboutautomobile.com/complaint/2006/toyota/sienna/airbag. there are hundreds of upset sienna owners wondering why a recall is not forthcoming from this agency. this affects safety, and the components are failing despite the fact that the airbags were never deployed. *tr

Airbag light comes on an won't turn off. *tr

Srs light start blinking then stay on while driving. checked both srs electrical connectors under front seats and both appears properly connected. pulled out both connectors and pushed them back in, yet srs light still stay on. *tr

In june 2012 first srs warning light appeared while driving family out of town. on 6/20/2012 vehicle was taken to toyota dealer and was repaired. cause : replace passenger airbag assembly. in august 2012, airbag warning light (srs) came back and the vehicle was taken to toyota dealer and was repaired. cause, code el1110, replacing the harness. in november 2012 the srs light came back and the vehicle was taken to toyota again. the cause was again code el1110, needing replacement of harness. since harness was just recently replaced, the repair technician verified every pin on the connector and found some pins not making good contact and repaired the problem. on april 3, 2013 the srs warning light is on yet again! plan to take the car to toyota dealer again but i am getting suspicious that there may be a larger more serious problem hidden in the airbag system of this vehicle. fortunate to extended warranty, i had not been charged for past repairs, but it was in thousands of dollars. my warranty is to expire shortly and i feel i will be dealing with this life threatening issue should toyota not investigate and find a sound solution or provide a recall on srs system for this vintage vehicle. *tr

The srs light came on and we cannot get it to turn back off, our vehicle is not under warranty anymore and toyota dealership has advised us even if it was they wouldn't be able to assist us. this is a safety issue and we are worried for ours and our children's life's if we were to to be in an accident. *tr

The airbag warning light keeps coming on intermittently even though this vehicle has never been in a crash. the dealership tells me the air bags will not deploy if the warning light is on, but that the connector below the seats is likely the culprit. toyota should issue a recall and provide a solution to this safety issue. *tr

The airbag light went on and blinking. took the car to the dealer and was told it cost $852 to fix the "wire harness" issue. i checked on line and realized there are many complaints on this same issue. it is a common safety issue and should be taken care by toyota. by the way, the same airbag light was on in 2008 and the airbag sensor was "recalibrated" by the dealership under new car warranty. i thought they replaced the airbag as they told me because it took more than one week to get my van back. but when i looked into this now, the repair was actually "recalibrate airbag sensor". *tr
