We have classified the 279 complaints from 2006 Toyota Sienna about AIR BAGS into the following categories.
Tl- the contact owns a 2006 toyota sienna. the contact noticed that the air bag warning light suddenly illuminated intermittently. the dealer or manufacturer had not been notified nor was the vehicle diagnosed or repaired. the current and failure mileages were 94,000. bw
The air bag warning light is flashing. per information online, this indicates a problem with the airbags -- either failing to inflate in a crash or inflating erroneously while driving. this seems like a very serious safety issue. correction of the problem can cost up to $4,000 and should be considered a safety defect and subject to recall. *tr
Approximately 2 weeks before scheduled service, air bag light came on and remained lit. after normal maintenance service was performed, the dealer did not notify my that the air bag system was not functioning properly. i found this strange, since during other service events, we were solicited for recommended services. i performed some research and determined that there are others experiencing the same problems. i am concerned for my wife and kids, since this vehicle is our only form of transportation. i would think the dealer should act in good faith to notify me that there is a potential safety problem with my vehicle. vehicle is almost five years old and out of standard warranty. due to toyota's recent track record. i believe an investigation is needed. *tr
The air bag light began flashing a couple of month ago. i took the van to the dealer who told me there were two error codes and that since they weren't sure exactly what was wrong, the entire system would have to be replaced. total: $4400 and change. the rep also told me he'd only heard of this happening once before, and his recommendation was that i simply trade it in and buy a new toyota (of course). i have 8 payments left. it only has 83k miles and is five years old. the complaints about the 2006 sienna air bags far outnumber the other problems with this van. *tr
February 13 2011 just bought a used toyota sienna... driven less than 200 miles and the srs indicator light started blinking. there was no real reason that this light would've been triggered. just drove the car as we normally have done. *tr
The air bag light on dashboard of our 2006 toyota sienna suddenly came on. took to dealer and they indicated that the sensor was bad and it would require the whole seat to be replaced for around $3000. the internet revealed thousand of complaints regarding this safety issue. *tr
Air bag light is on and flashing. diagnosed by toyota dealer on 02/09/11 as code b0111, needs r/seat airbag assembly & floor wire harness. estimate $2160.00. i contacted toyota customer experience line, the contacted dealer and agreed to pay $700 towards repair. i still cannot afford the repair as i am still paying on the auto loan. this is a safety failure and should be recalled. i am now without airbags. airbags have never been deployed - no accidents. vehicle is only 5 years old and 81k miles.
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 toyota sienna. while driving approximately 35 mph the passenger side air bag light began illuminating on the dashboard. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was told the parts which control the passenger side air bag were defective. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileages were 90,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 toyota sienna. he stated that the air bag light illuminated and the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the dealer advised that the air bag system had malfunctioned and would not deploy if the vehicle was involved in a crash. the dealer suggested replacing the entire frontal air bag system. the contact called the manufacturer and they stated they would look into the situation. the contact was awaiting a decision from the manufacturer. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 105,000.
Air bag light on for 2006 sienna on jan, 2011 at mileage around 60000. reported to the toyota dealer on 02/05/2011 at mileage 62000 and the dealer said code is b111 and that the right side air bag need to be replaced. checked online and found hundreds of 2006 sienna owners reported the same issue. this is a safety issue with 2006 sienna. *tr
I have a 2006 toyota sienna, never in an accident. at 78,000 the airbag light went on. they told me the system had a short in two places in the passenger side airbag and that i needed to replace the airbag entirely. *tr
The airbag warning light on my toyota sienna illuminated when the car had about 60,000 miles on it, well before the expiration of toyota's extended warranty. two local dealerships told me that it was a wiring harness problem and would cost somewhere between $2000 and $3000 to fix, as it was not covered by the warranty. fortunately, the light went off after a short time. now with about 90,000 miles on the car, it has come back on. a quick internet search has revealed literally hundreds of complaints of this same failure, many of which are occurring with very few miles on the car. i cannot imagine why toyota has not issued a safety recall. beyond that, i cannot fathom why nhtsa hasn't yet demanded one. this is clearly a defective design and toyota is not being held accountable for it. please do something about this. just do an internet search for 2006 sienna airbag complaint. you will be shocked at the number and consistency of complaints about this problem. *tr
I have a 2006 toyota sienna my airbag light is currently flashing. upon research i have learned that my airbag system will fail if involved in a collision. toyota is not fixing this issue at this time. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 toyota sienna. the contact stated that the air bag warning light illuminated intermittently. the dealer advised the contact that the air bag and harness would need to be replaced. the contact did not inform the manufacturer nor was the vehicle repaired. the current mileage was 90,000 and the failure mileage was 88,000.
Srs warning light at first came on and stayed on intermittently. it now stays on all the time. *tr
Dashboard airbag warning light flashing. dealer said it is a bad (defective??) airbag harness. $3000 to fix. *ln
My 2006 sienna xle has less than 55, 000 miles. just before the new year, the airbag light started flashing continuously. we got the car in on dec. 30 and were told the flashing light was due to a faulty wiring harness in the front passenger seat, which is covered under the regular (and my extended) warranty, but that the parts were not available at the time so i would have to bring the car back. i specially asked if the vehicle was safe to drive and was told my the initial service rep that it was. the service rep failed to follow up with making an appointment as promised, so i called one week later to find out that the parts were going to take in excess of 4 weeks to arrive! i was highly suspicious that the airbag was in working order, so it was no surprise that when i threatened to sue toyota if the airbag failed or malfunctioned in any way in an accident or otherwise, that i was then told my car was unsafe to drive and the dealer would provide a rental at their cost. an order was placed on january 6th for the part which was scheduled to come in 6 weeks later, feb. 9th. after waiting six weeks, i found out yesterday my order was "accidentally" canceled and that the manufacturer can't keep up production, so presumably, i'm starting my wait time again. i have lodged a complaint with toyota hdqt and have a case id with them. there are hundreds of similar complaints here and on the internet but no recall or notice from toyota about the fact that folks are driving around with flashing air bag lights that mean your airbag may not deploy in an accident and is deactivated because of the faulty wiring harness system. my dealer had 6 complaints alone, six weeks ago. this is outrageous!!! i am calling nhtsa as soon as i finish this complaint. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 toyota sienna. while parked, the contact noticed the air bag light was illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where they stated the warranty would not cover repairs or a diagnostic test. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 43,000.
The air bag indicator light on the dash flashes when the van is turned on. the toyota dealer said that the air bag wiring harness needs to be replaced since the air bag would not deploy in the event of an accident. my sienna is inoperable until repaired. there is a long wait, one to three months, to get this part replaced as it is on back order from toyota. the dealer stated that there are more than 400 air bag wiring harnesses on back order for our region alone. an internet search shows multitudes of other 2006 toyota sienna owners with this same air bag malfunction. air bags are included to help save lives, but they do not work properly on the 2006 toyota sienna. a recall should be instituted to fix this problem so the air bags in all 2006 toyota sienna's' will work properly. unless this defect is fixed, the 2006 toyota sienna is an unsafe vehicle.
Air bag light on 2006 toyota sienna came on. dealer did diagnostic, and quoted $1800 to fix wiring harness and sensor. they did not have the parts in stock and said it would take several weeks to get parts. when i left the dealership that day the light went out, and now only comes on for 5 seconds at start up (which is normal). i did not pay for the repair, but wonder if it might come back?? found an internet discussion group and found that other owners of 2006 toyota siennas that had similar problems. vehicle is out of warranty, but you don't expect these thing to fail this quickly. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 toyota sienna. the contact stated that the side air bag light remained illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who performed a diagnostic. the failure was located at the passenger side wiring harness. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 77,000 and the current mileage was 93,000. the vin was not available.
Airbag light on 2006 toyota sienna is on. dealership says left side airbag and wire harness need to be replaced. dealer will not cover it under extended warranty even though it is a safety issue. many other people have reported this on www.aboutautomobile.com. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 toyota sienna. the contact stated that while parked, the air bag light illuminated on the instrument panel. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for a diagnostic test and the technician stated that the front driver's side air bag would have to be replaced. the air bag was replaced. the air bag warning light continued to illuminate. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer and the technician stated that the passenger side air bag would have to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired a second time. the approximate failure mileage was 75,000.
I own a 2006 sienna with 90k+ miles, i'm out of warranty, although i have platinum extended warranty my repair was not totally covered. i took my van in to dealer because my airbag light was flashing, after diagnosed i was told 1 of the seat airbags was bad and also the entire airbag wire harness was bad. service manager at dealer contacted toyota headquarters to help me out, which he did, they will pay for parts and i will pay for repair, $1327. i contacted toyota headquarters myself, i was told that in fact my airbag system was defective and that since i was out of warranty, them paying for the parts was the best they could do. i was then contacted by a toyota parts specialist who advised me that the wire harness for my van was on order, expected to arrive at the repairing dealer approximately 12/15. the repairing dealer contacted me as well and told me that the wire harness was placed on order expected to arrive on 12/15, and that they had put in as a rush. on 12/15 the same toyota parts specialist left me a voicemail on my cellphone advising me that in fact the part (wire harness) showed as shipped to dealer in their database, however this was not accurate he said "the part (wire harness) has not been even manufactured yet". although toyota has put me on a rental car, it is very concerning to me and my family that toyota has not been able to come up with a fix involving a safety issue, with a malfunctioning wire harness the airbags are inoperable. i think that toyota shouldn't be bragging about safety and security as in my case, they have a malfunctioning part which has never been used and cannot be used, worst yet they can't fix. *tr
We have a 2006 sienna xle awd with ~38k and the airbag light turned on in the fall 2010. took it to the dealer on 11/28/2010. there is a problem with the wiring harness and as of 1/4/2011 they will not have one available for at least another month. they told us this is a common problem nationally and as a result, there is a back order for this part. assuming the part comes in the next month, they will have had our car in the shop for over 2 months. this is a major safety issue (obviously known by toyota) and should warrant a recall, especially if this is common enough to have a back log of demand for that piece and the airbags will not work with this defect. in addition to the safety concerns, most of us could not tolerate not having access to the family car for over 2 months. there are many other people with similar complaints documented on the internet. http://www.aboutautomobile.com/complaint/2006/toyota/sienna/airbag. *tr
The air bag light keeps coming on, i have taken the vehicle to the dealer on several occasions and as of today the light is still going on. is my air bag working? no one has been able to answer that question. the dealer has re-set the light and from what i understand changed the air bag, this has been and on-going problem . *tr
Airbag light came on in my 2006 toyota sienna w/ approx 80,000 mi. dealer informed me that the passenger side airbag and harness need replacement, but the harness will not be available until march 2011. they offered to replace just the air bag, but would not guarantee that this will solve the problem. i am forced to either take a chance and spend money on just the air bag, not knowing whether it will work, or take a chance to drive the vehicle for 4 months with an inoperative airbag and hope that i never am in a situation where i need it. i am uncomfortable with both choices. i am very concerned that toyota does not have the part available. if so many people are needing this part, would this not necessitate a recall? *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 toyota sienna. the contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the air bag warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed that the entire harness system needed to be replaced. the vehicle had not been repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 77,000. the vin was unavailable.
In 2008, the airbag dash light on our 2006 toyota sienna began blinking. we took our van to the dealer, who advised that the driver seat sensor was bad. after several repair attempts, the dealer replaced the entire driver seat, but the light continued to blink. after an extensive wait, the entire wiring harness was replaced and the light no longer blinked. in all we were without our van for nearly 3 months, awaiting parts. because of the safety concern (airbag not deploying or deploying when it shouldn't) and because the van was under warranty, the dealer provided a loaner van while we awaited parts. on november 4, 2008, the van struck a deer and the driver's airbag deployed. following airbag replacement and other insurance-covered repairs, the airbag dash light again began blinking. dealer advised that the passenger seat sensor was defective and a replacement part ordered; we were advised the part would be available january 4, 2011. toyota advised that, as van is no longer under warranty, no loaner vehicle is available. on january 4, we were advised that the problem is the wiring harness, which will not be available before february 9, 2011. toyota has offered $35 / day toward loaner / rental vehicle. once again this will be a 3-month out-of-service situation for a safety issue. there are many reports of 2006 toyota sienna airbag indicator / sensor / wiring harness problems reported on the internet. we believe this is a serious safety issue that toyota has avoided addressing as a system / recall issue, corporate behavior consistent with earlier accelerator safety issues on its vehicles. *tr
I wanted to report that my 2006 sienna with 97,070 miles came up with a b011 code for the front passenger airbag and wire harness. to my total shock i was quoted 2,900 to fix the problem at my local dealership. after further investigation i have found that this seems to be a recurring problem with this make and model. i called the customer service area of toyota and had a non committal response from them. the standard canned answer. that there was no recall on this issue. i would have further expected that with the past safety issues toyota had that would have looked into this. *tr
I have had this problem on and off since i have owned my car. periodically...and for no apparent reason...my airbag warning light will flash on and off. after a week or two...it will go out. then after a month...on again. it's impossible to get to the dealer when it's acting up. i have read or numerous others having similar issues with their 2006 siennas. *tr
My airbag light began blinking on sunday, 10/17/10. my vehicle is a 2006 toyota sienna. i took it to a local mechanic on 10/20/10 and was told the center squib needed replaced ...upon replacing on 10/22, was told that another error code was displayed indicating airbag replacement needed by a toyota dealer. my car has just went over the warranty period at 62,000 miles. i am unhappy that not even 4 years after buying this vehicle in december 06, i am faced with repair costs that are large for a major safety problem that has been recurring from what i have read online with others driving an 06 sienna. and as a mother of 3, i am unable to use my vehicle safely until this problem is fixed. i see a service bulletin for this but no recall..which it seems there should be for such a major safety problem. *tr
On oct 15, the airbag warning light began flashing in my 2006 toyota sienna. i took it into the dealer and was told my airbags are defective and the squib and harness would need to be replaced. they called toyota to see if they would cover it since my warranty was 6000 miles over, and they said they wouldn't. said it could cost around $3000 for me to replace. this needs to be included in a recall. *tr
Started my van, the airbag light came on and started to flash. drove home and light continued to flash. i parked, turned off the van and waited for a minute then restarted to see if the light would go out. no luck, the light continued to flash.
The driver's and passenger's front seat air bags both failed. there was no accident or impact. the only indication of a problem was the illuminated air bag indicator warning light in the instrument cluster. both air bags required replacement at a cost to the owner of $1,273. toyota denied any responsibility and required the owner to pay the entire $1,273 charge. after the owner contacted toyota national customer relations, a $500 toyota merchandise credit was offered, which the owner is unlikely to use due to the owner's reluctance to purchase any toyota product in the future. updated 01/23/10 updated 01/20/11. *jb
The srs indicator light began flashing on my 2006 toyota sienna on 09/20/10. the owner's manual states if this occurs, to take the vehicle to the dealership immediately. i was recently advised by cobb county toyota that my airbag is defective and needs to be replaced for $2400. since my 2006 sienna has 76k miles on it, toyota wouldn't cover it under the warranty. i asked how an unused airbag could be defective, i was told that it is an electrical component. that was the complete answer. so, i checked online. and, sure enough, hundreds of people all over the country are facing the same problem with their 2006 sienna. and, no one has been able to explain the reason. i called the toyota corporate office and the (no) customer service rep said that all she could do was document my concern. no manager could call or assist me. no one could send me a letter stating why an unused airbag is suddenly defective after only 4 years. *tr
Airbag light flashing multiple incidents beginning at about 40000. harness repaired under warranty (one incident at 14960 miles code b0111). again at 41697, diagnosed as connector. airbag & assembly replaced under warranty (one incident at 45499 miles code b0111). at 65000 miles airbag light again flashing. diagnosis, airbag needs to be replaced again but now not under warranty. no accidents. my personal opinion is that the vehicle needs to be recalled over this issue. *tr
I have a 2006 toyota sienna that has an airbag light that comes on. this vehicle has 85, 062 miles and wheeler toyota in grants pass, or said that a tech bulletin # 0162-10 requires to replace right side fold flat air bag assy. and replace right side floor wire harness assy. approx. $2238.36 for repairs. they stated that the warranty expired at 60,000 miles. shouldn't this be covered under a recall? *tr
The airbag light on my 2006 toyota sienna went off. when the van was less than 6,000 miles over my warranty. the dealer says there is a short in the wiring harness of the airbag under the driver's seat. this disarms all the airbags. i have been waiting 5 weeks for the replacement part. the repair costs $3200.00, but the dealer discounted it to $1,900.00. they say the wait is because there is such a demand for the wiring harness! many drivers are driving without their airbags! this seems to me should be a recall, as it is a safety issue and an undue expense to owners. *tr
The srs light began to blink. i took the van to the dealership to diagnose the problem. they said it was due to an open air bag in the front passenger seat which would cost $2000 to repair. i have since searched the internet to find several other complaints about the same problem. the yellow harness under the seat could possibly be the problem. if this wire is wiggled, the light goes off for a period of time. however, it returns later. i feel like srs safety should be covered for the lifetime of the vehicle unless the vehicle has been in an accident and they deploy (as they should unless there is a faulty mechanism such as mine has). toyota should do their part to keep customers safe, especially after we have spent thousands on a vehicle in hopes of having a safe vehicle to drive. *tr
2006 toyota sienna van airbag light stays on full time or sometimes when car is started the airbag light flashes on and off. *tr
Srs airbag light illuminated and was blinking. vehicle was taken to a toyota dealer and problem could not be diagnosed. dealer reset the system and airbag light illuminated again 60 days later. *tr
Tl*the contact owns 2006 toyota sienna. the front passenger air bag light illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the diagnosis located failure code b0111, the air bag wiring harness. the dealer stated that the entire air bag system needed to be replaced. manufacturers report 1008162109 was filed. the manufacturer offered to pay some of the repair cost. the contact feels the manufacturer should pay the entire repair cost. the vehicle wasn't repaired. the vin information wasn't available. the failure mileage was 90,010 and the current mileage was 96,000.
I have a 2006 toyota sienna with 73,000 miles. the vehicle was purchased brand new from koons toyota in westminster, md. air bag warning light has been checked and reset twice within the past two months because it keeps flashing. toyota recommends that i replace both airbags and the wiring harness to ensure the problem does not persist. total cost = $2,800. this is a major problem for me and my family and i don't feel safe driving this vehicle. others seem to be having the same issue. *tr
We purchased the van used in 2009 with 12000 miles on it and made our purchase decision based on the reputation for quality and safety that toyota had at the time. in july 2009 the srs warning light began to illuminate. according to the dealer the air bag wiring harness and system was known to have issues. luckily the dealer convinced toyota usa to cover the repair. in november 2011 the light again came on and did its blinking thing. currently we have a little over 48000 miles on the van and the dealer said that because we are past warranty that it won't be covered. a private mechanic tested the system and determined the airbags are not functioning and that toyota has published a bulletin acknowledging the issue but refuses to repair this safety concern. when the light is blinking or on, the airbags will not deploy, putting everyone inside at risk. a van with 48000 miles should not have to have the airbags replaced twice. looking at online forums there seems to be hundreds if not thousands of other sienna owners experiencing the same problems and yet toyota still refuses to recall the product or offer a reasonable repair. i am afraid that it will take a traffic collision resulting in a death or multiple deaths to push toyota to fix this systemic problem. a second concern which seems to be problematic with our van as well as others is the welds within the driver door breaking. the vehicle has not been in an accident nor any other major incident to cause them to break. according to the private mechanic, it is a manufacturing issue and that the weld should be one of the strongest parts of the vehicle and shouldn't break. *js
Air bag light stays on intermittently. toyota service said possible connection under passenger seat. cost $44.50. still stays on. common problem they cannot fix. *tr
Topic: toyota acceleration problem: on july 4th at 10:00 am, as my 2006 sienna toyota was emerging from the dryer-end of well known carwash, the signal at the terminal point indicated that i was to move my car out of the structure. i shifted out of neutral into drive. at the instant i put the car into drive, my vehicle accelerated out of the car wash structure, missing about 12 vehicles and drivers in the parked area drying their cars. the police and witness said i reach 60 mph when i hit an embankment, directly across from the exit to the carwash property at the exit point, the embankment was across the busy street leading out of the carwash area. i turned slightly to the left, in a vain hope to slow my vehicle down; tearing off the front right side and wheel, the vehicle continued on, sliding down onto a busy road. in trying to avoid a busy intersection, i pulled up over the embankment at a lower grade on to a flat grassy area where i could take my right hand off the wheel and pull the gear shift into neutral and turn off ignition. thank god no one was hurt. the vehicle was inspected by toyota subcontractors and is being repaired to be returned to us. it will be impossible for me to allow my family or anyone for that matter to drive that car in the future, the car is worth more to us than to others. the tone of the inspectors and other contacts with the toyota company was one of skepticism. i did not have floor mats in the car and i know the difference and location of my brake, contrary to their suggestions. i think it is interesting that the customer service and inspectors continue to treat their loyal car owners with such disdain and disbelief as if we are all liars. it is strange that the complaints are only coming from toyota owners, but as one reporter noted toyota drivers are an aging group and it has not happened to scion drivers. i hope that this problem is taken seriously by toyota. *tr
Yesterday, waiting in the stop light i have an accident when somebody hit me in the rear bumper at great speed and i hit another car at the front. my airbags never works, the car that hit my rear bumper open all of them. my car is a toyota sienna 2006. i'm [xxx] and i live in [xxx] . my e-mail is [xxx] and my phone number is [xxx] . thanks. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foe), 5 552(b)(6). *tr
Around june of 2010, after starting my 2006 toyota sienna, i noticed the airbag sensor light was blinking, i turned the van off and restarted, the light kept blinking. this continue while driving and after a few days, it stopped. again in july of 2010, same problem for almost 9 or 10 days everytime i drove. then it stopped. two days ago, august 15, the airbag sensor light came on again and is still blinking everytime i get in and drive. *tr
In april, 2010 and june, 2010, my airbag light began flashing in my 2006 toyota sienna le, after i started my car. the diagnostic code was b0111. the first repair in april, 2010 was a $600 repair paid out of pocket because my car was out of warranty and my extended warranty did not cover air bags. thankfully, my second repair was covered under the warranty of the first repair. this car is only 4 years old, and, although it has excessive miles, the air bag should not be malfunctioning at this point. in doing some research, i see that i am not the only one with this problem, and the 2006 toyota 4runner has a recall for the same diagnostic code. to me this is inexcusable. obviously there is a problem, and one that will not correct itself with replacing the airbag over and over again... *tr
