We have classified the 279 complaints from 2006 Toyota Sienna about AIR BAGS into the following categories.
The air bag warning light illuminated, and continued to flash. i took the van to the local toyota dealership the next business day, as a faulty safety system was concerning. the service department handed me a $3,000 estimate to replace a faulty wiring harness and air bag assembly, along with the news that the "platinum" extended warranty i purchased would not cover the repair. it seemed odd for a critical safety system to fail while the vehicle is relatively young, so i checked online. one site alone showed 85 owners of 2006 siennas with this same problem. from a reliability perspective, a critical safety system should last longer than this. this is especially true when repair of the system is prohibitively expensive. the items affected were a floor wire harness and side air bag assembly, part numbers 82161-08330 and 73920-ae031. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 toyota sienna. the contact noticed that the air bag warning light would illuminate intermittently. the dealer advised the contact to replace the air bag harness since the air bag would not deploy in the event of a crash. the manufacturer was aware of the failure; however, did not offer any assistance. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was not available. the current and failure mileage was 95,000.
Had the air bag light go on and off for a while, and was told that when air bag light is on, the passanger airbags does not work. when the light went on and stayed on, i took it to the dealership. they said that it has faulty wiring and it will cause all airbags not to work, and the wiring would need to be replaced for $3000. after seeing all the complaints online with the 2006 sienna with the same issue, it is obvious this is a quality and safety issue that should be addressed. i am just thankful we did not get in a accident, and hope toyato or the government steps in before something like that will happen thinking that it is just the passanger side airbag. *tr
We have owned '06 sienna for many years and have enjoyed the comfort and safety that it provides but we have been faced with an unusual problem with srs airbag system that seems to be a major safety issue. upon investigating the issue online, this appears to be a very common and a wide-spread problem. == the vehicle srs warning light comes on and keeps blinking when vehicle is first turned on. it remains on or blinking entire time the vehicle is driven. this happens for no apparent reason or fault of the driver and there is no explanation anywhere as to why this happens. once this fault occurs, the vehicle is no longer safe to drive. toyota dealers have diagnosed this issue with dtc b0111/0116 and verified this to be a warning light indicating a problem with airbag system. they have also confirmed that the airbags will not deploy in the event of an accident. once diagnosed with this problem, majority of times the customers are faced with hundreds or thousands of dollars in out-of-pocket expense for the repairs. the repair seems to be anywhere from bad connector for srs sensor to bad wiring harness to complete replacement of front/side airbag system. == these vehicles clearly violate basic federal safety standards 201, 202, 203, 208 & 214. if this issue has been reported on numerous vehicles and if fault occurs for no apparent reason then there is obviously a defect in the material or the way this airbag safety is designed. toyota has a service bulletins out for this issue but no recall. this is unacceptable by any vehicle safety standards. this issue needs to be investigated and the vehicles recalled by toyota as a defective or non-functioning airbag system is a major safety defect and could result in serious injury or death. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 toyota sienna. the contact was driving 25 mph when the srs air bag warning light illuminated. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer for diagnostic testing which confirmed that the air bag system was faulty. the dealer suggested that the passenger side air bag be replaced as well as the harness. the contact called manufacturer and opened a case. the failure mileage was 43,000. the consumer stated the srs warning light started blinking without any impact. upon getting a diagnosis by the dealer, the front passenger air bag had reportedly failed with dtc codes b0111/b0116 the front passenger air bag, wiring harness and squib were replaced at the consumer's expense at a cost of $ 2961.33. updated 05/11/12
The airbag indicator light came on in my 2006 toyota sienna. i went on line to see what it could possibly be. to my surprise i read that there have been numerous complaints about this same issue. apparently there is a problem with the airbag that requires repair that also involves the wiring harness. the fault code is b0111. there is a service bulletin (tsb 0162-10) regarding this problem. the frustrating part for me and many of the other 2006 sienna owners who have filed complaints is that this issue happens just after the toyota restraint system warranty expires at either 60 months or 60k miles. my 60 months expired exactly 16 days before the light came on and now toyota is telling me that my warranty is expired and it may not be covered. the cost of the repair is between $2000 and $3000. this problem renders the airbags useless. i don't understand how this is an ongoing problem for 2006 toyota sienna owners and a safety recall has not been imposed. this seems like a systematic failure built into the system to generate repairs and revenue. something needs to be done about this! *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 toyota sienna. the contact stated that the air bag warning light illuminated at engine start up. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who confirmed that the air bag sensor needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was not contacted. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 130,000 and the current mileage was 159,600.
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 toyota sienna. the contact stated that the air bag warning light was illuminated. the contact took vehicle to the dealer where a diagnostic test was performed and the dealer stated that a rusted cable caused the air bag light to illuminate. the vehicle was repaired but the repair did not remedy the defect. the failure mileage was 65,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 toyota sienna. the contact stated that while driving 40 mph the srs failure light illuminated. the vehicle was not taken the dealer, but the manufacturer was notified. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileages were 67,000.
After installing new battery, air bag light goes off intermittently. vehicle involved in 2 accidents, but no one ever cleared the air bag light. moving front seats back and forth also affect the air bag light. eventually light went out and assumed everything okay. movement of seats have brought the light back on and this time, stays solid. failed state inspection for the air bag light. codes found b0111 and b0150. reseated connectors under the passenger seat = no change. wiring under seats is substandard and poorly designed. it is easy to see how the wiring can become easily damaged during normal use. no protective casings around connectors to protect the wires from accidental bumping/corrosion. something needs to be done about this recurring problem. very poor quality assurance in this vehicle. *tr
Air bag light began flashing in my van. checked manual and was advised to take immediately to dealer for service. dealership pulled a b0111 code from the van. we were advised it would be approx $4700 for replacing the sensor in the passenger seat air bag and wiring harness. neither item is covered under warranty and i was recommended by the dealership to contact my private insurance company to cover the item. private insurance will not cover the issue due to no damage to the vehicle. our van has 56000 miles and has never been in an accident (thank goodness) or been damaged due to flood, fire, or anything else. my wife was also told of a tsb by the dealer out on air bags for toyota, but our sienna did not meet the classification of the tsb. after researching the problem we were told the high costs were due to extensive labor for removing the front end of the car in order to replace the harness. obviously due to number of complaints on this issue there is a major problem with this harness. the harness seems to be failing at an alarming rate and all shortly after 50000 miles. after all the other problems toyota had with safety issues it would seem that this would be an issue they would address, but no one at toyota is giving it much attention. *kb
Our srs warning light came on during a road trip at approximately 63,000. the dealership stated that this code b011, is the right front airbag and the wiring harness needs to be replaced at a cost of $2400 and about 3 days of labor. of course our extended warranty does not cover this, either. it is possible that the air bag will not deploy if we are in an accident. toyota customer service only documented my complaint, and would not tell me if there is any investigation related to this issue since each case is confidential. i see multiple complaints related to this exact same issue. how many complaints does it take before toyota is forced to do something about it. seems like this has got to be a manufacturing defect. we have never been in an accident. our van is kept in a garage and i feel we've taken good care of it. i really wanted this vehicle to last for many more years, but this is very concerning to me and i question we will ever purchase another toyota, given their poor publicity lately. *tr
Van presented a flashing srs light that remained flashing during operation. vehicle manual recommendation was to take to dealer. took vehicle to dealer 9/6/2011. was informed that code b0111 was pulled during analysis. vehicle needs driver side airbag replaced and floor wire. estimated cost $2573.49. without repair, airbags are inoperable. toyota issued a tsb (el001-08) february 27, 2008; however, the tsb did not extend warranty coverage for this failure. no recall has been issued. this is an apparent defect due to the numerous complaints found online. *tr
The airbag warning light lit and did not disappear for about 3 days. two days later the light appeared again and stayed on. the vehicle was taken in to a toyota dealer who said that the airbag sensor and airbag were faulty. the vehicle was just a month over 5 years and only had 45000 miles on it! from researching the internet this seems to be an issue for this make and model. *tr
Air bag light would sometimes come on and stay on, but usually only for a day or two. in november 2011 the light came back on and stayed on for several days. we just took the van to leith toyota in raleigh, nc for a diagnostic and said they found historical codes for the front left passenger air bag and "current" codes for the front driver air bag. they said the only fix is to replace the entire air bag assembly for $3000 (per side). the van is worth maybe $12,000 and now we are told we have to spend a total of $6,000 for both sides to completely fix the problem. turns out the 2006 toyota sienna has hundreds of complaints filed at various locations for the same air bag issue. toyota has a tsb out for the issue and some people has talked about getting a redesigned wiring harness to correct the issue from toyota, but no recall. this is a serious defect in the srs that should be covered by toyota. a recall should be issued for this problem. this system should not just break down over a few years of life nor cost so much money to fix. the cost to fix the problem is more than what most people can afford. *tr
I recently bought a 2006 toyota sienna. i hauled my daughter's belongings to college and after we unloaded the van the airbag light came on. i brought it to the dealer since it was a 2006 with 40000 miles on it i thought it would be covered, however since the car was put into service 11/05 it was not covered. they said they had to replace the airbag and wiring harness for $2500.00. after researching your website i realized there were a total of 102 airbag complaints for that year while all other years combined there were 80 (average 6/model year). i did contact the customer service manager and am waiting for a reply to see what they will cover before i have the repairs. the manager did say there was a service bulletin and does not know if a recall will happen in the future. *tr
The airbag indicator light was on in my vehicle. the dealer indicated that the left airbag and harness were defective and that i have to pay for the replacement since the vehicle is no longer under warranty.
Airbag srs keeps flashing, took to toyota dealer and they said the wiring harness needed to be replaced. i have platinum coverage and was told it was not covered be warranty. the vehicle on has 69,000 miles, and this is a safety issue. i have only been driving this vehicle as normal wear and tear and the light just came on and has not went out. *tr
In august 2011, the airbag indicator light came on in our 2006 toyota sienna. i took the vehicle to a toyota dealer for diagnosis. the technician stated that the following error code was reported: b0111 (open in side squib - rh). i was advised to replace the right side wiring harness and passenger front seat air bag. total repair cost was quoted at $2,200. i was advised that until the problem is fixed that none of the airbags would deploy. a check online showed that this is a common failing of the 2006 toyota sienna. there were numerous complaints from other vehicle owners. the common theme seemed to be that the failure occurred after 60,000 miles. my service technician agreed with me that this wiring harness failure is not the result of normal vehicle "wear and tear". this failure represents a manufacturing / design defect. the toyota representatives that i spoke with offered no assistance with the repair cost. they advised that a recall had not been issued, and the vehicle was out of warranty, therefore they had no obligation or willingness to assist. toyota is aware that this is major safety issue with their vehicles, but they have failed to address it. no doubt the financial cost of a recall is a factor in their decision. *tt
Airbag light came on dash and stayed on; took to toyota dealer to have checked. after $99 diagnostic was told "technician pulled dtc code b0111 open in side squib b circuit harness. open in harness between right front side air bag and ecu. advised us that airbag harness and air bag needed to be replaced; cost was $2,300.00." service advisor called dspm who authorized coverage on parts only but that we would still have to pay for the labor; $800.00. part numbers needed are 82162-08340 and 73910-ae031. this is a 2006 sienna that we purchased used in february 2007. currently have not repaired/replaced airbag harness and airbag as we were just notified yesterday about findings. having gone on line and read about numerous other 2006 sienna with same problem it appears to me that it should be covered by a recall as it is a very important safety factor that seems to have a major defect in the airbag harness and airbag. we will be watching the nhtsa database to see how this situation is concluded. *tr
06 toyota sienna air bag sensor lights up intermittently. dealer says problem with loose connector for side airbag on passenger side. the connector cannot be tightened or individually replaced. we must replace entire airbag at cost of $2,500. no airbags will deploy with light on. many complaints in internet for the same problem. this is a serious safety issue and should be addressed with a recall. *kb
Airbag light warning light was flashing, started just after 60k mi. went to dealer to have diagnosed. b0111, b0116 codes. computer at dealer states that driver's side wiring squib is defective and needs to be replaced. seems to be a known issue because repair instructions were available without taking apart my vehicle. warranty on this part was extended to 60k, but dealer will not cover repair at 61k. looking into it further, dealership chose not to cover because my vehicle had not been serviced at that dealership (35 miles from my home and over a mountain pass). only owned vehicle for a year. quoted price of $2600 to repair. in the meantime, entire airbag system on vehicle is disabled. part is back-ordered, dealer did not have a sense of when it would be available. *tt
I own a 2006 toyota sienna which started displaying an airbag warning light at about 90,000 miles. i had an independent airbag technician run diagnostics. he found a history of increased resistance in the connector under the drivers seat. he stated that he had seen this in the driver and front passenger connections of many 2006 siennas. i found online that this is a widespread problem of a critical safety system for which toyota is not taking responsibility. owners are paying thousands of dollars for repairs only to have it fail again which suggests that toyota has no idea as to the root of the problem. hopefully, i have solved my problem by applying penetrox (an anti corrosive zinc paste for electrical connections) to the connectors under both front seats and connecting and disconnecting each about 25 times to clean the contacts. the fix has lasted 2 months so far. *tr
Tl* the contact owns 2006 toyota sienna. the contact was driving 30 miles per hour when the air bags sensor illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the diagnosis indicated that the floor harness wiring for the front passenger side air bags failed. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 75,000, and the current was 75,343.
2006 toyota sienna air bag light came on and took the car for 60,000 service mentainance at 62,000 and the dealer said passenger side wire has to rewire and quote me 2400 to fix. it it is a wire harness failure, it is a manufacture defect and toyota has to recall and fix the problem. this is a major safety issue and nhtsa has to follow up the complaints about this. *tt
In early 2011 our airbag light came on after a few days it turned off. around july 11 2011 the airbag light came on again and did not turn off. we had the vehicle service by a toyota dealership on 7/28/2011 (34,268 mileage). they "replaced the air bag per tsb". in mid october 2011 the air bag light came on again. the vehicle was serviced on 10/31/2011 (36,755 mileage) and the same dealership and they "replaced floor wire harness passenger side". in late 2012 the air bag light came on again but eventually turned off. now its early august 2013 (44,456 mileage) and the air bag light is on again. the same dealership refuses to look at the car unless we pay $137.00 just to look to see if it is the same issue. it is the same issue. if you google search the issue it pops up as the first search because the air bag issue is such a major concern and issue. toyota needs to fix this issue and do it for free and stop playing with its loyal customers! this needs to be a recall item. flex and force toyota to recall this air bag safety issue. thank you! *tr
Airbag lights starting flashing on an intermittent basis early in the life of the vehicle. i brought the vehicle in for service under warranty. repairs were attempted, but the airbag light still would flash intermittently (but often for short periods, say one or two days). in july, 2011, the flashing of the airbag lights went from intermittent to permanent. dealer quoted a repair estimate in excess of $4,000 and stated the vehicle was no longer in warranty. but the failure of the airbag component(s) has been intermittently evident (through the indicator light) from very early in the life of the vehicle. warranty repair attempt was unsuccessful, and intermittent of warning light made it impossible to obtain effective service. toyota refused the consumers request to repair the faulty air bag components (s) in the vehicle. updated 09/20/11
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 toyota sienna. the contact started the vehicle and the air bag warning symbol illuminated and began to flash. the warning indicator remained illuminated until the engine was turned off. the failure occurred sporadically. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who stated the front air bag system would need to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified and offered $500 towards the repair expense. the approximate failure mileage was 63,000.
We have a 2006 toyota sienna, and the srs airbag light just began blinking. took it to the dealership and they said the entire wiring harness needs to be replaced because of a faulty wire, and none of the airbags would deploy in the case of an accident. they want $3000 to replace. we are not going to fix until we call toyota to find out if they plan on issuing a recall on this defect. *tt
My air bag light blinks continuously. i have researched this topic on-line and have found that when this light blinks, it means the air bags will not deploy correctly in the event of an accident. there are hundreds if not thousands of complaints about the airbag wiring harness being defective, either under the passenger seat or drivers seat. currently there are no recalls by toyota to address this issue. this is a safety issue that needs to be rectified. it seems that while the 2006 model year sienna is the primary vehicle with the problem, there are also some 2005, and 2007 model years with the same problem. the dealer wants $2000+ to fix this problem. there are stories of back orders on this part being up to 4 months. toyota knows there is a problem, but now needs to step up to the plate and do a recall to fix this problem. i don't like driving a family vehicle that is supposed to be safe, but is not because of this fault in the airbag system. very frustrating.
Airbag light is on so i had my van looked at, at the dealership and i was told i need a new passenger airbag and harness. its not under warranty because i have to many miles on my vehicle. which the mileage has nothing to do with the airbags. its a safety issue and should be a recall. i've never been in an accident so i don't understand how the airbags could go bad. i also had another mechanic look at my van and he told me that a tbs# came up which means that more than 200,000 people have had the same issue. *tr
Air bag light is continually on. researching the internet we have found that many other 2006 toyota sienna's have the same problem and i feel that it is a safety hazard that toyota should have recalled before now. we have found that in most cases it will cost thousands of dollars to get it repaired. as senior citizens, we cannot come up with that kind of money. has a recall been issued, or, is an investigation into this matter been done? *kb
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 toyota sienna. the contact stated that as the vehicle was started, the seat belt warning indicator illuminated on the instrument panel and would continue intermittently. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who informed the contact that the front driver side air bag and wiring harness assembly would need to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was not made aware of the defect. the failure mileage was 99,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 toyota sienna. the contact stated that the air bag light was constantly illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where they stated that the failure was located within the wiring circuits of the driver's seat. as a result, the air bags would not deploy in the event of a crash. the vehicle had not been repaired. the failure mileage was 59,000 and the current mileage was 69,999.
The 2006 sienna has an airbag defect. the warning light comes on indicating that the airbag is faulty. within 15 months the airbag assembly had to be replaced twice with the same part. *tr
My 2006 toyota sienna with 66,000 miles on it has a faulty driver side air bag and harness. toyota wants $3,325.00 to fix. *tr
2006 toyota sienna had flashing airbag light on dash in 2009 at 48k miles. bad sensor was discovered by toyota dealer service dept and repaired under warranty. 2 years later and 88k miles, airbag light flashing again and toyota dealer service dept diagnoses an "open circuit" and cause being a faulty wiring harness for the airbag system. estimated cost $1800 since vehicle is 6 months past warranty. i contacted toyota for possible appeal to cover cost of repair of safety system. have not heard back from toyota if they will cover the cost of the repair. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 toyota sienna. when the contact started the vehicle, the air bag warning indicator illuminated until the engine was turned off. the failure occurred sporadically. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnostic testing. the error code detected a passenger side air bag failure which would prevent the air bags from deploying during impact. the technician stated that the part was unavailable. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 60,000.
Air bag warning light flashes. taken the car in twice already to fix it. went on again last week. now i am out of warranty.... hope they will fix it again since it is an ongoing problem. it is scary to drive the car if you think the air bag may go off at any time ! toyota needs to tell the dealership how to fix this problem! isn't replacing the "part" two times enough already?? my car has 80k miles on it. *tr
2006 toyota sienna (approx. 89,000 miles) suddenly had flashing airbag light come on april 25, 2011. vehicle is single owner, personal use. never involved in any accidents. took to dealer, was told that air bag harness and front airbag wiring was bad, entire system would need replaced for about $2,400. spoke with toyota corporate office, they offered to by for 50% of repair. had service manager at dealership contact district service parts manager to appeal for additional funding from toyota, again was told that only 50% of cost would be covered by toyota. this issue is related to faulty wiring/parts and not to mileage, which is what i am repeatedly told is the reason the repair is not covered (out of 5 year/60,000 mile warranty window). *tr
I bought a toyota sienna 2006 certified used vehicle last dec. 09, 2010. after driving for just less than 4 months i noticed that the srs light started to blink while driving to work. i informed my dealer 4 days later through email. but the lights went off a day after before i came down to his place and had been working normally for about 7 months. then the issue came back again, brought it down to south coast toyota and was told that code: b0116 driver side airbag and wiring loom need to be replaced for $3426. toyota was informed but said it was not covered by warranty. i am severely disappointed as the reason i bought a certified used car and pay the price was the assurance that i will not get a lemon. but i was wrong and toyota's assurance on quality of certified used car is purely crap. *tr
The air bag light is flashing on my 2006 toyota sienna. it started flashing last year, then stopped for a number of months, and now it is flashing again. other people have reported the same issue, and indicate that if this light is flashing, then the air bags will not deploy in a collision. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 toyota sienna. the contact stated that when driving approximately 10-70 mph, the air bag warning light would illuminate intermittently. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic twice for the same failure. the dealer was notified and informed the front passenger side air bag was installed incorrectly during production. in addition, the technician informed the contact that air bag could inadvertently deploy or possibly not deploy during a crash. the dealer stated there was a shortage within the wiring system and the front passenger side air bag and wiring harness would need to be replaced. there was a technical service bulletin related to the defect under nhtsa item number: 10024292. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified regarding the problem and informed the contact that they would respond at a later date to whether they would be financially responsible for the repair. the approximate failure mileage was 70,000. the vin was unavailable.
Airbag srs light began illuminating without any prior event. van is currently at dealer awaiting service, harness wiring parts are on backorder. dealer advises that "toyota is really stepping up on this and has offered to pay for half the cost of the repairs = $1200". *tr
My wife started the car and the air bag light started flashing. so we looked up in the owner's manual and it said to bring the vehicle in asap because the air bags could deploy on their own. we took vehicle to miller toyota in manassas, va and they repaired the vehicle by replacing 2 passenger side air bags and the harness at a cost of $2353.70 to us. srs warning light continued flashing after start up. dealer confirmed error code b0111. passengers air bag and harness needs replaced. these items are covered with "updated parts" in a toyota tsb 0162-10, dated 02/27/2008, covering sienna model years 2004 through 2008. over one hundred similar occurrences are found on various safety related and owner based internet sites. this is an obvious oem defect of a critical vehicle system that toyota has been aware of for some time now.
2006 toyota sienna air bag light came on. dealer has said passenger air bag and floor harness has a short and must be replaced. $3000. car has only 63,000 miles on it - seems to be a faulty part issue. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 toyota sienna. the contact stated that the srs light illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who performed a diagnostic test. the failure was located at the driver front and passenger side air bags wires. the dealer replaced the wires and air bags. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer would not assist with the repair cost. the vin was not available. the failure and current mileage was 69,150.
During normal usage, srs warning light on dash began flashing. took to dealer and problem was diagnosed as b0111 - airbag wiring harness failure. dealer has advised will order part to replace. item is covered under 5 year / 60k warranty.
2006 toyota sienna with airbag light flashing. toyota has a bulletin but no recall pertaining to faulty side curtain airbag connector. repair cost est. $5000.00- shouldnt have to pay that for defective part. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 toyota sienna. the contact stated that the air bag warning light was illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was inspected and the contact was advised that the air bag harness needed replacing. the manufacturer did not offer any assistance since the vehicle was no longer under warranty. no repairs were performed. the current mileage was 75,100 and the approximate failure mileage was 68,000.
