I currently own a 2010 toyota prius and over the past few month i've noticed a momentary loss in my braking when turning corners or coming to a stop. i'm alittle concern that this might be a degenerative issue that may cause a serious accident at high speeds. *tr
2010 prius. have a number of incidents that at first thought the stability system but now understand that is not so. has happened a few times. when going around a corner on wet road and applied brake had this lurch forward movement. happened again once on ice and again when going from asphalt to slightly raised brick road and was applying brakes. was applying brakes in all incidents. in addition on numerous occassions have started car with the brake recessed. placed car in reverse and now the brake peddle becomes tight and then no longer smooth braking and jerky. turned off the car and restarted and it corrected itself to normal. this has happened in many different months but twice in the month of february. once with turning the car on and tight abnormal brake and once with the lurch while driving and applying brake on change of pavement *cn
2010 toyota prius model iii. during light braking, when the vehicle is using the regenerative brakes, rather than the mechanical friction brakes, if a pothole or railroad track is crossed, the brakes feel like they slip a bit before they catch again. the car does not accelerate, but the deceleration from braking does decrease for part of a second. this has happened to me several times in the past 6 months and is repeatable. *tr
We bought a 2010 prius iii at the end of december 2009. we have noticed a braking problem as follows: with brake pedal pressed, going over a bump, the car will lunge forward 1 to 2 feet, even though the brake is pressed and car moving very slowly. this has happened about 6 or 7 times, most recently 2/4/10. we are careful to stop with significant room before a car ahead at stop lights and intersections but cannot foresee all situations. we have a teenage driver and it is therefore especially important this be fixed. we have reported it to the dealer. *tw
I have a 2010 prius and would like to log a complaint that i too am experiencing the lag effect on the braking system. i read today that it could be a computer software problem. please log this complaint so the real magnitude of this problem is tallied. *tr
2010 toyota prius the braking system does not work when the brakes are applied over bumpy or rough roads. occurs everytime the brakes are applied at a particular intersection. i have owned the vehicle since august 2009. the problem has existed the entire time i have owned the vehicle. i noticed the problem, it raised some concerns, but recent articles have indicated this is a severe issue. *tr
This is to report that my prius 2010 car has experienced the delayed brake problem. i find this happens when i am driving over a certain road that has some small bumps. i am going around 20 or less stopping for a stop light and i get a very slight delay in braking, less than 1 second i think. i have never had any trouble stopping in the required distance before the stop light, it just gets your attention and needs correcting by toyota. *tr
The regenerative braking on the 2010 prius lose gripping when going over bumps on the road. what happens is when the car goes over bumpy ground and i am using the brakes, the brakes seem to lose grip and the deceleration is reduced. i have noticed this happening about 10 times in the 6 months that i've owned the vehicle. *tr
I have a 2010 toyota prius, and i am shocked that this car was not included in the gigantic toyota recall. why? because the 2010 toyota prius exhibits brake failure and sudden acceleration while slowing down on bumpy roads. for example, if you're slowing down towards a red light, and then all of a sudden you hit a pothole, the car will suddenly accelerate and may cause a crash with the person ahead of you! this happens all the time and is extremely dangerous. thousands of 2010 prius drivers worldwide are also having this brake failure/sudden acceleration issue with their 2010 prius as well! take a look at just a few of these discussions which are taking place, where people are having uncontrollable sudden acceleration with their 2010 prius: http://tinyurl.com/yj359rh will nhtsa please do something about this? *tr
I have experienced problems while braking in my 2010 toyota prius. the problem occurs when i am braking and the car hits a bump/pot hole. when i hit a bump the brakes seem to stop working for a second or two and the car lurches forward. for a moment or two you feel like you are losing control of the car. luckily this has not resulted in an accident yet. *tr
In city driving conditions, the brake pedal of my 2010 toyota prius fails to respond when it is depressed and the car hits a bump. the vehicle feels as if it momentarily lurches forward before it begins to slow. this is an intermittent problem that occurs when the vehicle hits an obstruction, such as a pot hole, while the brake pedal is being pressed. the most recent occurrence is detailed below. *tr
While depressing the brake pedal in the 2010 prius, the vehicle will lose all braking power if you hit a bump or pot hole in the road. i have experienced this several times while depressing the brake, approaching an intersection. when i drive over the bump in the road (and continue pressing the brake) the vehicle surges forward as if my foot had released the brake. the only way to stop the vehicle is to immediately re-engage the brake fully. i have came very close to rear ending the vehicle in front of me due to this design / mechanical flaw. i can recreate this scenario each time i cross a certain portion of the road i commute on. *tr
I have a 2010 toyota prius iv and i have experienced the reported problem with the braking; namely with the brake applied and i running over a rough spot or bump in the road ( a good example is braking when going over rough railroad tracks) you feel a momentary surge or acceleration. i have noted this problem quit a few times since the car was new (car has been driven approx. 5000 miles). *tr
When i drive over a bumpy road and apply the brakes, my car does not stop. *tr
When braking, my toyota prius unexpectedly jolts forward if i hit a bump in the road. this happens consistently nearly every day i drive it. *tr
When depressing the brakes due to approaching a stop light, the vehicle traveled over a man hole cover which was uneven with the road service. the brakes appeared to release, the car drifted forward 3-5 feet, and then the brakes re-engaged. *tr
Our 2010 toyota prius surges (accelerates) for a fraction of a second whenever the brakes are applied as it hits a small bump or slick spot in the road. this hasn't caused any accidents, but we drive the car primarily at low speeds (40 mph or less) and haven't been involved in any situations (yet) that required evasive action. we are concerned that, at higher speeds, or in a case where someone pulls out in front of us and we have to apply the brakes quickly, the vehicle will not respond appropriately. i have told my toyota dealer about this problem twice, and they have no response. about what to do about the problem. all they said was that the car has not been recalled, and that i should touch base with them periodically for updates. they took my name only when i pressed them to push the information back to toyota management. *tr
Sudden increase in speed during braking over uneven surface, potholes, snow, rail road tracks. *tr
I was driving this morning and hit small pot hole as i was trying to slow down after going over the pot hole, the brake did not seem to work for a brief moment, but it seem okay later on. *tr
Over the past 2-3 weeks we have had unpredictable occurrences of the brakes of our 2010 prius grabbing/locking when only gentle/gradual pressure has been applied to the brake pedal. the sudden full-braking of the vehicle causes it to lurch and, if drivers do not take off the brake completely, to stop short. *tr
While driving a 2010 toyota prius it sounded like the rotors were squealing so loud we had to pull over and check the rotors and brakes. however, nothing looked unusual so we slowly drove back home. me and my wife then proceeded to return home slowly and the sound continued all the way home (10 miles). since then we have parked the vehicle to await results of recall that, which has been announced today. *tr
I own a 2010 prius since august 2009. in the past month or so, i noticed that when i made a slow right turn or stop on a drainage grill, i suddenly lost brake power. the car lunges forward for a foot or two before it stops upon hard stepping on the brake pedal. i had a near accident on feb 2, 2010 as i stopped at a red light under a bridge. this anomaly happens primarily around corners and bumpy roads. the problem did not happen at the beginning so i suspect that with time, the problem will get progressively worse. *tr
I have had two instances when i lost at least half of my braking power when going over a slight bump in the road. the first instance was about two months ago and the second was on feb. 2nd. in both cases i was coming up to a freeway on ramp stop light and went over a bump in the road. i went beyond the light both times and fortunately there were no other cars in my way. i also have a problem with the brakes grabbing so severely that my seat belt engages when i have just feather touched the brakes. this has occurred after starting the car and releasing the brake to move forward or backward, but not yet stepped on the gas. i have had the car into the dealership five times since purchasing it in september for these issues and have repeatedly been told this was normal. i even requested that a regional mechanic check it out and he did so. he told me he was able to have the car respond as i described and it was in normal range. i disagree. there has been three other people who have been with me when this has occurred and not one of them has considered this anywhere "normal". i only yesterday learned of this avenue of complaint or i would have notified you of this problem earlier. thank you for your consideration and efforts to hold toyota accountable for this issue. so far i have had absolutely no success. *tr
We live in chicago and own a 2010 prius. we also have experienced the acceleration (forward surge) upon braking on uneven terrain reported by other owners. no accident, but it happens often on our city streets and it is a little unnerving. the last time it happened was yesterday. *tr
i have a 2010 prius. if something happens where i need to use my brakes firmly and the road is not 100% smooth the brakes stop working for a few seconds. i thought it was something i was doing, but i am realizing now its not, its something in the car. in wet weather it does it even more. i have had more then 10 instances commuting 50 miles a day where i thought i was going to rear end someone. the brakes don't work or feel like normal brakes even when the roads are smooth. i have brought it up to the dealership i purchased it at right after i got it. they gave me the impression that it was me getting used to a hybrid car. there was no offer to bring it in and let them look at it. *tr
2010 prius i have definitely been getting the lurching over bumps that i've heard other 2010 prius owners complain about. happens a lot when i drive over a manhole cover, the car seems to speed up for a brief moment. i haven't had an accident from this yet, but wanted to register my complaint with whomever else is having the same problem. *tr
The brakes on my 2010 toyota prius failed during heavy traffic on the south 405 freeway in los angles nearly causing an accident. i almost rear ended a nissan 370 zx. in general the brakes seem substandard and feel mushy after driving in traffic or especially rain as we have been having in california. i am concerned about the brakes on the car and have started shopping for any upgrade kits that might be available. the brake failure was very unsettling and i read reports today about other prius drivers complaining as well. therefore i felt that i should file a complaint to ensure that the brakes are looked into by toyota. *tr
I purchased a new 3rd generation toyota prius in august of 2009. i have noticed two incidents where my brakes did not respond properly immediately after passing over distinct potholes. they had way too much "give." on the second pump of the brakes, the full braking power appeared to be restored. *tr
I have a 2010 prius. i have noticed a problem with the braking in certain conditions as described: when the prius hits a patch of uneven pavement or is taking a sharp turn while lightly braking, the prius' brake ecu interprets that as a situation where the computer needs to step in and keep the wheels from locking up. the brakes do end up working but it is an unsettling and definitely a potential dangerous situation as there is a surge prior to the breaks actually working. the surge only lasts a second or so but it does feel like the car is actually accelerating and not braking for that brief moment. *tr
I have a 2010 prius when i go over bumps the brakes will not engage right away when i depress the pedal *cn
Brakes disengage momentarily when braking on a rough or rippled surface. it gives the feeling the vehicle is being accelerated. uncontrolled travel distance can be lengthly. i have experienced four such instances.
2010 prius brakes appear to become inoperable during transition from electromagnetic to hydraulic braking. i've had this occur an three occasions, twice during aggressive braking (near misses). once this occurred at low speed on a patch of so-so road during light rain. the other two times this happened at 40+mph on very good dry road. i took my car in to my local toyota dealership yesterday to evaluate this concern and was informed that my brakes are not malfunctioning. the dealer seemed unaware of the issue and the fact that toyota had corrected this issue in the cars currently coming off of the assembly line. the dealer position seems to be that the prius brake system is advanced and does not operate like other brake systems. my position is that brake system design should not contribute to driver panic during aggressive braking. *tr
While driving at a normal speed (20 - 60mph), i start slowly pushing on the brake pedal each time i run over a pothole or a bump in the road, and for a split second i feel the car accelerate slightly even though i am braking. i have noticed this 95% of times i go over a pothole and probably in a few other situations as well (possibly when driving on slick or icy roads). i have not complained about this before, so nothing has been done about the failure. *tr
Occassional very brief loss of braking when going over uneven pavement, speed bumps or traffic calming devices at a slow speed. no injuries or collisions as a result. have not contacted dealer yet but am awaiting potential recall notice. *cn
We purchased a 2010 toyota prius in july 2009 and have been having problems with the brakes that correspond precisely to what is now being widely reported in the news. specifically, when going over bumps in the road while braking, several times i have experienced the car suddenly and momentarily speeding up and lurching forward rather than slowing down. my wife has also report braking problems. indeed, just last week i queried her to make sure it was the brakes rather than the accelerator, and she confirmed the problem occurred while braking. so far these incidents have not resulted in damage or crash, but we are obviously now very concerned about use of the car, especially during slippery winter conditions here in washington, dc. the date below only represents the most recent of multiple times we experienced this problem. *tr
2010 prius. purchased 11/23/09. when slowing down to turn into the parking lot at work, there is a manhole cover right before my turn, if my tire goes over manhole cover my car bolts forward as if i step on the gas. this happens 1-2 time a week and has been happening for since december. 18-20 occurrences to date. there was one other time when stopping for a traffic signal and i hit a slight bump and my car bolted forward. i always was quick to press the brake hard and the car would stop. the last time it happen was 2/2/10. i am bringing it in for service 2/6/10. *tr
Since i bought my prius back in july 2009, my brakes have been great except for the 5 or 6 times when the brakes disappeared for a second as i pulled up to a stop sign on a bumpy road. it's happened twice at one stop sign where i drive just once a week. that one has a big dip in the road where they have replaced a water line and then repaved. my occurrences have all been within 20 feet of the stop sign and never near a car or pedestrian fortunately. i now have 14,000 miles on the car. with something this rare, the dealership was of course unable to reproduce the problem. the next day toyota announced that it had fixed the problem in late january on the line but had no fix to offer us yet. brakes are great otherwise; the best i've had. recently i have had plenty of opportunity to test abs, traction control and stability control. no problems except for those half-dozen incidents. *tr
When braking at low speeds, vehicle accelerates for a second before braking. this occurs when hitting a bump. i experience this almost every day on my way to work at the same location. the road is sloped slightly downhill in a residential street. i have not contacted toyota yet. *tr
1. i am driving on a regular road. 2. when i am braking and my car hits a bump it seems to jolt forward briefly and i need to hit the brakes harder to stop. *tr
On feb 1, 2010, i was approaching a stop light intersection at about 7 mph. when applying the brakes it was like stepping on a solid steel pole or ice skates. the pedal would not depress and the brakes would not engage. i released brake pressure and again pressed the pedal and then the brakes operated satisfactorily. the street was smooth asphalt, dry and in good condition without bumps. on feb 28, 2010 the dealer (lake city toyota) accepted the vehicle and performed the "service campaign aob abs actuator ecu update". *tr
2010 prius surges when a bump is hit while braking. this is fairly repeatable and can occur as much as once a day. we have not taken back to the dealer, because being in the automotive electronics industry, i am certain it is a software bug and that the dealer will not find anything wrong or know how to fix it. *tr
I have a 2010 prius. when i am coming to a stop and there is a slope in the road or a pothole, the brakes will momentarily disengage and the car lunges forward. it has happened multiple times. i can predict when it is going to happen based on the bumpiness of the road. and the distance i am from coming to a complete stop. *tr
Driving a brand new 2010 toyota prius iv approaching a set of rr tracks. while braking to make a left turn i crossed the tracks. the prius surged forward and i almost collided with the automobile in front of me. *tr
This is a recurring problem with my 2010 prius. when i go over a small bump, such as a metal plate on the street, so far always at low speed it feels as though the car accelerates. i think it's probably just not braking the way i expect it to, or perhaps the brakes momentarily fail. it lasts less than a second, and of course i was worried that it represents the same problem that has caused the big toyota recall. but i think it's different. there's an article in today's new york times about this. *tr
2010 toyota prius. going downhill and approaching a stop sign. my foot is steady on the brake and i am gradually coming to a stop. then, i inadvertently go over a bump in the road and the prius lunges forward. i had to immediately slam hard on the brakes in order to keep the car from going into the intersection. fortunately, there was no car or person in front of me as i was stopping. *tr
When driving my 2010 prius over bumps with my brakes on, the car lunges forward as if the brakes are not working. this occurs each time i hit a bump when i have my foot on the brake pedal. *tr
The brakes on our 2010 toyota prius momentarily stop working at low speeds on bumpy roads. the brakes stop working for only a second or two when braking on a bumpy road surface, the reengage. this has happened multiple times since we bought the car new in july 2009. *tr
4 instances of failure of the brakes to stop the car 1st time in june 2009 at a stop sign - had to push brake very hard to get car to stop 2nt time in aug 2009 again approaching a stop sign brake would not engage until pushed very hard 3rd time sept 2009 same situation last incident 2.1.10 same situation. road had some snow on it. *cn
Brake failure. *tr
We have a 2010 toyota prius purchased in july 2009. from the start, we noticed an issue with the brakes seeming to skip as you applied pressure at lower speeds. two calls to the dealer about this were met with the phone equivalent of "blank stares" and we got nowhere. with the recent news reports describing the issue we found, i called two toyota dealers yesterday in my area about getting it fixed and they were absolutely no help at all. one said they did not know what to do and had received no information from the company and the other seemed not to be even aware of the brake issue, the service supervisor kept speaking about the accelerator issue which is different. we have been limiting how much we drive this car because we are so concerned about the brakes. *tr
