Toyota corolla 2005 in an accident - hit on passenger front end and then flipped over landing on the roof of the car. all 7 airbags failed to deploy. *tr

While traveling at 35mph on a 50mph roadway, anticipating to stop or steer off the roadway, my 2005 toyota corolla brakes and steering failed despite repeated attempts to stop or steer the vehicle to the soft shoulder to avoid rear ending the vehicle stopped ahead of me. once i applied my brakes, the steering mechanism became non responsive as though both brakes and steering failed. i watched my vehicle continued on its forward trajectory until it slammed into the rear of the vehicle at the red light. in addition, one would have expected the air bag on this vehicle to deploy at impact at this speed. to my surprise and that of the investigating officer from tampa police department, the air bag did not deploy. luckily, i was the only one in the vehicle as neither the driver's air bag nor the passenger air bag deployed. *tr

My husband bought my 2005 corolla as a wedding gift. it was slightly used but bought from one of the best toyota dealerships in our town. it had approx. 18000 miles when i got t in feb of 2007. it was very basic and a standard. the shifting/clutch never seemed right from the start but i learned how to deal with it. in feb of 2010, i was leaving work and was a few miles from home. i had never in my many years of driving had a wreck. the truck ahead of me came to an abrupt stop and as i tried to brake,my car seemed to speed up and went right up under the truck. the whole front end smashed right up to the windshield yet the airbag did not deploy. insurance deemed it a total loss but it was right at the point where i still owed as much as the pay off so they went ahead and fixed it. i was out a lot of money. the second wreck just occurred on march 15,2013. i was driving home from a family members residence in the country and was traveling on deserted roads at about 3:30 am. i went around an s curve that i grew up driving so it i was very familiar. i tried to slow down, but again seemed to accelerate. i over corrected and ran thru a ditch and completely threw a metal fence. again. the airbag, which always had the light on as if ready to deploy, did not go off. i was hurt very badly and apparently blacked out for a good while. this time the insurance deemed it a total loss and we are waiting on a settlement from our insurance plus i hurt my knee and am meeting with a surgeon next week. that car was nothing but trouble and i am happy to b rid of it but feel we all deserve justice for all the many errors toyota has given this vehicle. *tr

2005 toyota corolla vin # [xxx] had air bag light go on 10/2009. brought to a1 toyota new haven ct and told there was a front passenger side problem. waited over 2 months for new air bag harness (car not drivable) and harness replaced (3400 dollars). air bag light went back on 11/2010 and brought back to same dealer 12/2010. clockspring in steering wheel replaced and tension tightened on front passenger side air bag wiring at cost of 530 dollars. air bag light went off after this repair but went back on again a week after last repair made. a1 toyota notified. had notified customer service at national level (they were not interested) and notified regional toyota office (they referred me back to dealer...) so a huge safety issue and car definitely not safe to drive... would appreciate you looking into this issue. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Air bag deployed without cause while driving on the highway. toyota has not been able to provide a reason as to why this happened and therefore cannot guarantee that it will not happen again. they have do little to address our concerns. they have repaired the air bag, without knowing what created the problem. they have not repaired the numerous other electrical issues we are having with the vehicle since the incident occurred. getting answers and assistance from toyota has been a nightmare. *tr

Airbag deployed without warning while traveling 65 mph. on the highway. the vehicle was not involved in an accident past or present. nothing was hit, no damage to the exterior or undercarriage vehicle. *tr

5 vehicle wreck in fast lane on 6 lane portion of state highway, 50 mph zone. car in front stopped unexpectedly. corolla stopped in time (preventing rear end collision) but 3 vehicles (included 2 trucks) behind the corolla collided heavily and pushed the corolla into the car in front. no airbag deployed. car "totaled". severe front end and rear end damage. no airbag deployed on driver side or other side. *tr

Vehicle was traveling 15-25 mph with moderate to heavy traffic 2 lane road around 1:15pm with dry clear conditions. second vehicle attempting to cross road collided with first vehicle in the left rear fender causing the first vehicle to rotate 180 degrees to collide with a third vehicle breaking the front axle of the first vehicle, side airbags deployed but did not inflate. first vehicle totaled. 1 injury(passenger),cuts to ear requiring 8 stitches & shoulder injured due to secondary impact. *tr

Here i report an accident which may be caused by toyota unintended accelerate problem. we bought 2005 toyota corolla sport on july 09, 2004. we drive 2000-3000 miles/ per year. as we bought 5 years pre-paid maintenance, we have regular maintenance service with faulkner dealer every half year until july 09, 2009. there has no big problems during the first 3-year warranty period except on around summer of 2007, the check engine light is on and toyota dealer replaced the computer control system without charge (we're not sure the replaced computer name and we think the dealer should have record). the weather condition is light-medium rain while our car accident happened. when the accident happened, my 5-year old son and i were in the car. the road speed limit is 25 miles per hour, i drove under the speed limit at a local road and it is about 2-3 miles distance to our destination. i remembered that i reduced the speed around a curve to turn on another road. suddenly i heard a loud roaring engine sound came from inside, even i pressed and pressed the brake pedal for several times, but i feel that i step on the air, it didn't help. the car automatically accelerated with the speed i can't control and i lost the control of the steering wheel, my car was in malfunction status and crashed to the right curb and then hit the bush with a high speed and trapped in wet mud (thank for god). the engine was still roaring with a scared loud sound for minutes till i turned off the ignition and took off the key. our car was damaged seriously by this accident, our car insurance company paid for more than $7,000 for the repair of this damage and i paid $1,000 for this collision. we kept both the police and repair record in case you required. at that time we didn't realize this accident may be caused by the unintended accelerate problem which recalled . because our car computer system was replaced by dealer in 2007, we may still faced the recalled problem. *tr

Vehicle impact a wood light pole a the bottom of a hill. frontal damage broke the steel bumper reinforcement bar. damage was directly in front of the left front impact sensor. front air bags didn't deploy and seat belt pretensioners didn't activate. only two adults in the vehicle at the time of crash and they both had seat belt on. passenger hit rear view mirror and windshield. *tr

I just purchased my 2005 corolla 3 months prior to this incident and it was a fairly new car but it had the check engine light on with in the first month i had it. on the day of the incident the weather nice and pleasant & i was soberly driving home from nursing school in san jose along in the middle lane of a 3 lane street at the legal speed limit of 35 miles an hour. about 600 feet ahead there was a yellowing stoplight and two cars slowing down nearing the stoplight. i put on the brakes normally as i thought there was plenty of space to come to a stop however it felt like instead of slowing the car suprisingly sped up and instantly i was smelling gunpowder after a sharp painful jarring smack. the airbags had deployed and was a ripped up mess from my steering wheel. i hit the car in front of me and was so dazed and shocked and my wrist had shattered requiring reparative surgery and rehabilitation however it's still not ok. due to my confusion i denied medical treatment until a few days later. this confusion still affects me badly now as i suffer from severe ptsd. the police took pictures and a report. the people in the car i hit were taken by ambulance. & recommended i be taken as well but i refused. the car had been totaled with severe body damage to the front and a bent frame that it was able to drive from the scene. i was terrified that somebody either tampered with my car and brakes or either i was clinically insane to make it illogically speed up & it wasn't until i learned of the recalls only a few days ago that i realized maybe the accident wasn't all my fault & i should report it here. toyota corporation has done nothing to send me notifications of any recalls or problems ever. *tr

I was in a acident last week, someone turned left in front of me. we were going straight through the intersection. our air bags did not deploy, a number of people (rescure personal, auto repair shop) all mentioned that were surprised the air bags did not deploy. we were going around 15 to 20 mph, i am not sure if this has happened to others or if the bags should have gone off or it this is the correct place to report it. all i can say thanks for seat belts, we would have been just more than just brusing. sincerely, *jb

Hi, i see my 2005 toyota corolla failed in the government crash compliance test (frontal crash, fmvss208), and passed again with a my 2006 one. i guess that means toyota updated a part or parts of my 2005 corolla, but i have never received any recall notice from toyota. *jb

Tl* - the contact has a 2005 toyota corolla with an odometer reading of 45000 miles and had air bag problems. on 9-9-06 the contact's vehicle was in a crash, it had been raining and she was driving at 55 mph when the vehicle hydroplaned, and hit a jersey wall twice, but the air bags did not deploy. also, the contact stated that on 12-15-06 she was driving 55 mph when she hit a dog on the passenger's side of the vehicle,. the driver's side air bag deployed, but did not inflate, and the passenger's side air bag did not deploy. the police were at both crash scenes and took reports. also, took pictures. there were no injuries a result of the crash. *ak

Dt*: the contact stated the air bag light illuminated as soon as the driver seat belt was buckled. then, while driving 25 mph, the vehicle collided with the side of a dump truck and neither frontal air bag deployed. however the left side impact airbags deployed. the vehicle was considered a total loss as a result of the crash and was towed to a salvage yard. the contact was wearing a seat belt at that time of the crash. a police report was filed. the manufacturer was also notified. updated 09/19/06. *jb

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 toyota corolla. while driving at 15 mph, the brake pedal was depressed but the vehicle accelerated independently. as a result, the contact crashed into a building and the air bags failed to deploy. the contact sustained head, leg, knee, teeth and chest injuries that required medical attention. a police report was filed. the vehicle was taken to an auto body repair center and repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vin was included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v350000 (air bags). the failure mileage was unknown.

2005 toyota corolla. consumer states air bag failed to deploy during accident. consumer requests an investigation of 2005 corolla design flaws. *tgw the toyota responded to the consumer by writing; the accident did not fall within the parameters for deployment. the type of injuries the consumer sustained would not have been prevented by the deployment of the air bag. a broken sternum and rib was a common injury sustained by an occupant when the seat belt locks up and restrains them. *jb

I would like to report both air bags on my 2005 toyota corolla did not deploy after a head on collision. my vehicle was a total loss. *jb

Dt*: the contact stated that the front driver air bag did not deploy in a head-on collision that occurred while driving 35 mph. the other vehicle in the accident was immobile. there was pre-impact braking by the contact, the seat belt was worn and the airbag warning light illuminated prior to the crash. the contact suffered a concussion to the head.

My daughter drove a 2005 toyota corolla, she was in a wreck today that totaled her car, taking the front end of her car off, she was hit by a commercial size wrecker that lost control, her air bags never deployed. they should have. toyota has to look into why the air bags do not work on these cars. my daughter brandy mcnamee is going to be ok but had the truck hit her more to her side instead of the passenger side she would have suffered with no air bags. thank you betty. *nm

2005 toyota corolla hit the rear end of another automobile on the freeway. driver was traveling approximately 30-35 mph. there was severe damage to front end of the 2005 toyota corolla. the airbags did not inflate on impact. the insurance company declared the car totaled and took possession. also on 2/28/2005 the same 2005 toyota corolla was hit on the passenger side, which damage the passenger door and front end of the automobile. the airbags did not inflate on impact. *jb

I was driving (in area where apparently a lot of accidents happen at this particular intersection) and i came to a stop sign - could only turn right or left...looked left - saw no one, then looked right - saw a truck way in the distance...so i accelerated to make a left turn and boom! i was hit on the drivers side (the side where i saw no one) - never saw it coming, car was completely totaled, and my left clavicle was broken in 5 places. side air bag never deployed, front air bag never deployed and not sure if i hit my head...but i lost consciousness for a little while. i didn't think to report it - nor did i realize that it was a problem, until now when i'm researching cars and saw that someone else had this same incident/problem. i will call toyota and report it asap. *jb

Dt: the contact's vehicle was t-boned by another vehicle at 40 mph. upon impact, the side impact airbags did not deploy. the vehicle was hit on the driver's side door. the vehicle was totaled. a police report taken at the scene. the contact sustained bruises, concussions, and sprains from head to legs. she contacted the manufacturer, and they claimed the airbags did not deploy due to the speed and angle at which she was hit. *ak

The front passenger airbag is known to be defective and to potentially cause injury or death. toyota's current remedy is to instruct me to "not drive with an occupant in the front passenger seat". if they are unable to fix my vehicle in a timely fashion they should be providing me with a safe alternative to drive. this language can not be used as jargon to waive their responsibility in case of injury. their explicit failure to fix this in a timely manner is unacceptable.

I have the air bag lights on all the time, the time i turn on the car and driving it, it just do not go away on parking either, ever since i buy the car the dealers said it will go away as i drive it, it never did, it is not stable at all every time i brake while driving it goes forward like it did not stop but it did. it is in some way unbalance at every stop. but they said this is how it is since i bought it. now i try to check on recalls and for some reason this vin # does not appear to be valid or recognizable by the safety dept.. why? why? why? they do not want to fix it? or what is going on? *tr

Takata recall, i got a recall notice on my toyota's airbag system back in may of 2005. it stated to take care of this problem immediately. i called clearwater toyota to get an appointment. said they didn't have ant parts in stock, will get back with me. they never did. called again oct 2, 2005' they told me the mgr. would get in touch with me. well, it's nov. 18 and no call yet. this has been going on since june 2005. aggravated to say the least.

My son was driving a new (6 months old, with less than 400 miles) 2005 toyota corolla, when he was struck on the driver's side fender & wheel. while the driver's side airbag deployed, the side airbag failed to deploy- resulting in a fractured left clavicle. he was wearing his seatbelt. *ak

I have been trying to get my airbags on my corolla for several months, but toyota of slidell doesn't make a replacement car available. they keep telling me they have to see what will be available in the morning!!! really??? you are a freaking car lot!!

After being involved in a head on collision at 65 mph driver's air bag did not deploy. *ak
