Recently reported AIR BAGS problems on 2008 Jeep Wrangler

The airbag light just came on & my cruise control stopped working so did my horn. *tr

I was driving down the highway (6/2/13) and the airbag light came on, so i pulled over and shut the vehicle off and then started it back up. the light went off so i drove off. it happened three more times before i got home. the same thing happened the next three days but now it is staying on. the dealer said it is a known problem and i will take it in on friday. after some research there is a recall for rhd but not lhd and that i don't understand. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 jeep wrangler. the contact stated that the clock spring and the air bags failed. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer where they confirmed the failure. the vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign id: 13v176000 (air bags) however, the contact was advised that the recall only pertained to mail delivery vehicles. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was not available. the failure and the current mileage was 98,000. *tr

My air bag red light came on, i checked on line and was told they recalled the 2007 for this same reason, and if left unrepaired my seat belt will not work! after the 2007 recall, i feel they should have found the problem and fixed it! they want $425.00 to repair what they did not do right. if i had the money i would get the repair, but i feel the dealer ship should pay for half of the repair. i can die without a air bag! this is a recall waiting to happen as people start have this problem. help *tr

Warning light goes on...........horn does not work.......cruise control won't work properly........a well known problem that chrysler refuses to fix or recall. *tr

While driving at 25 mph the airbag light illuminated with a corresponding chime. the light comes on an off and the chime sounds randomly. through research i have found this is not uncommon and is a recurring problem with jeep wranglers and specifically to the clockspring behind the steering wheel. apparently my airbag may or may not work in the event of an accident. *tr

The air bag light is flashing on and off at different times during driving. it has come on the past 2 days and flashed and beeped. when i am driving it comes on erratically or not at all or stays on for the entire drive. i believe this to be one of the recalled ones but i called chrysler and they told me it is not, based on the vin number. it is definitely a safety hazard that chrysler knows about. *tr

On the 2008 jeep wrangler (lhd) dashboard, the airbag warning light flashes on every other minute with a chime, an indication that there is something malfunctioning or interfering with the vehicle's airbags. this has been a recurring issue and concern for many 2008 jeep wrangler (lhd) owners, including myself, and has been shown time and time again to be caused by a faulty clockspring within the vehicle's steering wheel. this faulty clockspring is the culprit for potential airbag failure in the 2008 jeep wrangler (lhd) during an accident or premature deployment when simply driving around. daimler chrysler has refused to address the safety concern of their faulty clockspring that can cause failure of the vehicle's airbags from properly deploying. they have recalled the faulty clockspring on (rhd) models and 2007 models. these are the same clocksprings! *tr

Bad clockspring on 2008 jeep wrangler 2 door lhd- air bag light on dash dings and comes on / goes off intermittently. no horn. major safety issue that, from research and talking with other jeep owners is very common but there is no recall for this yet.

I have a 2008 jeep wrangler that was manufactured in 2007. the clock spring was diagnosed by the dealer as being defective. this will prevent the driver airbag from deploying in an accident. i have read that the 2007 model year clock springs were recalled but not the 2008. i have read on several forums that the 2008 models are affected with this problem especially the early models. i am not sure how many complaints you have had about this issue but this should be handled in a recall or other way that the owner is out of pocket $500 for a safety repair that they are aware of as an issue. i have contacted chrysler care and they told me that they would not cover this issue. i have heard that chrysler has extended the warranty on this part to 100k miles or so.. but i'm told that not my vehicle. this is a knows safety issue and should be handled under a warranty situation. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 jeep wrangler. the contact stated that the air bag warning light was illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, who stated that the air bag clock spring failed. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure was reported to the manufacturer. the approximate failure and current mileage was 55,000.

Submission from constituent re 2008 jeep wrangler air bag system problems. *smd the consumer stated the air bag light illuminated, as he was driving. he investigated the problem and learned there was an ongoing investigation prior to issuing a recall. on may 9, 2012, the consumer went to the dealer, for an unrelated problem and requested a diagnosis for the air bag problem. they reported on the invoice, the clock spring mechanism had failed and the replacement cost was $800.

2008 jeep wrangler has the airbag light on. research states that it is due to a faulty clockspring. chrysler will not address the issue on lhd wrangler. the problem is apparently consistant with many other lhd owners. *tr

I was traveling down the highway and was coming up to a stop light and the vehicle died out. i was able to get the vehicle started and shortly after that, i was traveling down the highway again and while i was speeding up to about 55 mph the vehicle shut down again and i was barely able to get away from the traffic around me and get the vehicle pulled over to the side of the roadway. i attempted restarted the vehicle and it could not get the vehicle to restart, luckily i work on vehicles myself and determined that the problem was a fuel pump issue. i tapped on the fuel tank, got the vehicle started and was able to drive me and my family all the way back home, but the vehicle was driving rough and no lights came on indicating i had a problem, before or after. i will get the vehicle tested on to see what would have caused it. after reading a great number of these complaints, the problem seems to point at and is clearly indicating it is the fuel pump!! we were very lucky that the vehicle didn't explode because the fuel pump wires have a tendency to melted on the fuel pump. i doubt ford would pay for this fuel pump failure it seems to be a common problem when you look on-line. *tr

Clockspring went out, replaced and went out again. there is a recall for this exact issue for the rhd version of my vehicle only. this recall should apply to lhd as well. *tr

While i was driving down the highway, i was approaching a corner and as i went to turn the steering wheel to negotiate the corner my wheel became stuck and i nearly went into the ditch. i jerked the steering wheel hard and heard some wires snap. after bringing the vehicle to a stop i could see pc ribbon wire hang out of the steering wheel indicating broken clock spring. *tr

The airbag light turns on and off, indicating that there is an intermittent malfunction with the airbag system. the problem is a simple part - the clock spring in the steering that connects the airbag to the control module. if the system malfunctions before or during a crash, the airbag will not deploy, and could cause serious injury or death. i am shocked that this safety issue is not being recognized or covered by jeep! *tr

Air bag light and chime intermittently on and off, mostly on safety issue? right hand drive 2008 jeeps have been recalled. left hand drives need to be called. *tr

Air bag light came on, checked connections under passenger seat light remained on. i have been told this is a result of a bad clock spring. *tr

Airbag alarm keep getting triggered. *tr

Clock spring failure in my 2008 lhd jeep wrangler has caused my windshield wipers to randomly turn on, my turn signals and headlights to only function intermittently, and my gauge cluster flickers when any of the above trigger. *tr

The airbag light in my 2008 jeep wrangler (lhd) has begun going off and chiming while driving at least one time every minute. this light indicates that something is wrong with the airbag and the problem has been diagnosed as a clock spring issue. this has been a recurring issue with 2008 jks (lhd), and potentially can lead to airbag failure in the case of a crash. chrysler has refused to address this issue with 2008 lhd wranglers even though it is a serious safety concern. *tr

Clock spring light/chime alarm intermit on and off. *tr

The horn no longer works and per the dealer, it is the clockspring. this cost about $500 to replace. the same make and model of the previous year had a recall but they have not recalled the 08 which apparently has the same problem. *tr

Don't understand how there can be a recall on rhd and not no lhd.same parts are involved ,reasoning being that postal jeeps are more prone to dust which if you have ever had a wrangler,in the summer the tops are off all the time on dusty roads and trails so that makes your reasoning wrong. this is a safety issue .your job is to protect us from this kind of stuff. do your job!!!!!! *tr

Dodge dealership has inspected my jeep for an airbag warning light illuminated. i have an extended warranty from millennium and the will not cover the repair. the problem has been diagnosed as a faulty clock spring. this is a lhd vehicle. the recall id 94030 is for the rhd jeep. if left hand drive jeeps are having the same problems, how can this just be on the right hand drive only? recall id # 94030 - air bags:frontal component air bags:frontal model affected wrangler potential units affected 5437 recall date: nov 02, 2011 model affected: 2008 jeep wrangler summary: chrysler is recalling certain model year 2008-2012 right hand drive (rhd) jeep wrangler vehicles manufactured from february 1, 2007, through october 10, 2011. some vehicles may be equipped with driver's airbag clockspring assemblies that could experience a compromised airbag circuit resulting in an airbag lamp illumination, which indicates that the airbag may not deploy. consequences: a broken electrical circuit in the airbag clockspring wiring assembly can lead to non-deployment of the driver frontal airbag and will not be able to properly protect the driver in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of injuries. remedy: chrysler will notify owners and remedy the vehicles as necessary free of charge. chrysler will mail to owners an interim notification during march 2012. owners may contact chrysler at 1-800-853-1403. potential units affected: 5437. *tr

Air bag light activated with chime for several cycles. now air bag light stays on. sometimes flickers / flashes, but mostly stays lit. this was on smooth pavement at highway speed. 'can't understand why the system failed or why the local dealer wants so much to repair an obvious safety item that shouldn't have gone bad. *tr

The airbag light began coming on & going off on sat 11/17/2012. i tried calling the dealership they were closed. called on mon. 11/19/12. took jeep in mon afternoon. was told today that i would have to pay for it because it had already been replaced. i do not think that i should have to pay for this as it was a recall and had happened again. there must be something wrong or it would not go out in the first place would appreciate some help from someone. i am so upset with this jeep that i will probably never buy another one and will suggest that no one else buy one either. i have had numerous other problems with this jeep. *tr

My airbag light came on while driving at 40mph. wolfchase jeep refused to warranty item. i had to pay for trouble shooting, but chrysler would not warranty even though there is an obvious problem. there is already a recall for r/h drive and 07 model year wranglers. *tr

Airbag warning light flashes and audible alarm sounds. jeep will not recall all defective jeeps. *tr

Vehicle's air bag light illuminates and "chimes" frequently throughout vehicle operation. request chrysler initiates recall immediately. *tr

While i was driving around town, my airbag light will come on and off. sometimes the light will stay on for long periods of time. *tr

Airbag light came on intermittently at low driving speed. eventually stayed on permanently whenever vehicle was in gear. failed clock spring was diagnosed. this vehicle is the more common left hand drive. *tr

Airbag light and chime activate when turning. was diagnosed as faulty clock spring mechanism. was told it was not under warranty and if not fixed airbags may not deploy. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 jeep wrangler. the contact stated that the air bag warning light remained illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who advised that there was a recall for the failure under nhtsa campaign id number: 11v528000 (air bags: frontal) however, the contact's vin was not included. the manufacturer was notified of the failure but offered no assistance. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 73,000.

I had an air bag warning light that came on and would not go away. when i brought it into the dealer they told me that it was the clock spring that was bad. they had informed me that it was not under warranty or that there was no recall for this safety issue so i paid out of pocket to get it fixed. *tr

Air bag light came on during driving. took it to the dealer where they told me the clock spring needed to be replaced for $525.00. after researching the issue i discovered that jeep has recalled the right hand drive clock springs for 2007-2012 but not on the left hand drive jeeps. they are the same part and a recall should be issued across the fleet. this is a safety issue as it can cause the air bag to deploy on its own, or not deploy in an accident. *tr

Driver airbag dash light on. when making right turn light turns off, then returns with chime when steering returns to straight. dealer states the airbag light indicates the airbag may not deploy. dealer suggests an airbag clockspring assembly failure as seen on other similar models (and recalled on rhd model). *tr

My airbag light came on and off in roughly 1-3 min. intervals. brought it in for service and it is not covered under warranty. i read many jeep forums and have found that the clockspring is failing on many many jeeps and could cause premature detonation of airbag cause fatal accidents or not detonating when really needed. i was astonished that jeep will not take care of this. i will end up spending $200-$350 myself just to feel safe in my own car. this needs to be addressed by jeep. if it becomes a recall, i will be seeking my money back. Clock spring has failed, this has been recalled on the rhd models. horn no longer works and i am unsure if the airbag will deploy. why is it not in recall on the lhd vehicles as well? *tr

Driver airbag lamp turns on-off. loses cruise control speed when set. airbag light turns off on right turn and turns on with chime when straight. confirmed by chrysler dealer as clock spring fault. driver squib #2 open corroded. dealer states no recall or warranty for repair. dealer repair cost quote $480.21. dealer states when airbag light is on airbag will not operator. believe defective clock spring controlling safety device airbag is same concern as the seatbelts on my jeep which would not release for use. the dealer replaced the defective seatbelt. so why will dealer not replace under warranty the clockspring? i will call chrysler for warranty repair approval. *tr

Air bag light comes on and stays stead for a period of time. occasionally goes off, to only reappear with a chime. *tr
