Airbag light illuminates and chimes. light goes out during turns, but re-illuminates once steering wheel is straightened back out. problem is chronic. i understand jeep has a recall on 2007 jeeps for same issue and rhd versions for later years.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 jeep wrangler. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 16v352000 (air bags); however, the part to do the repair was unavailable. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue. the contact had not experienced a failure.
While driving my 2008 jeep wrangler the clocksrping malfunctioned and broke while going around a turn on my neighborhood street. my air bag light came on and a small ribbon came out of the steering column. this also disabled my horn. when i took it to my mechanic he asked about a recall on this part because this is not a common issue. i looked and saw that there in fact was a recall on the right handed vehicles for 2008 but not left handed drive vehicles as well as 2007 jeeps had the recall. i am hopeful that this can also be recalled in 2008 left hand drive vehicles as it is not something that should go bad unless your vehicle is left in the rain dust or dirty environments, which is not how my jeep is ever stored. i am happy that i was on a neighborhood street when this happened and that the air bag did not deploy!
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 jeep wrangler. when the vehicle was started, the air bag warning indicator illuminated, which was a safety concern. the vehicle was taken to the dealer (whitten brothers jeep in richmond virginia, 804-378-0707) where it was diagnosed that the occupant restraint module was defective and needed replacement. the contact stated that the vehicle was repaired by the same dealer three times for an unknown air bag recall. the vehicle was not repaired for the recent failure. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vin was invalid. the approximate failure mileage was 197,000.
My air bag light has been turning on and off when i am driving the jeep. it chimes every time it lights up, then goes out, then chimes and lights up again fairly often.
We have received recalls for s-43, and s-33 refrencing the air bag system. we received them in april and still have not been called in to have the repairs made. several attempts to reach chrysler via e-mail have only resulted in getting many adds to buy cars. i want this safety problem resolved immediatly.
The air bag light came on and stayed on. this occurred while driving off road on sand and while turning. dealer indicated the fix was going to cost over $500 dollars. they indicated some faulty wiring.
Turned left and the airbag warning light went off. and now continues to go off and ding every couple of minutes as i am driving. seems to happen most of the time when turning left but tends to happen when turning right as well.

Clock spring self-destructed at just over 45000 miles. airbag light is now on and the ribbon cable is unwinding out of the steering column. same issue that was being reported by owners and has been recalled for 2007 model year.
Clock spring needs replaced.
Air bag light goes off constantly. if vehicle is on, warning light will go off and ding every couple of mins, whether wheel is straight or turning. annoying and apparently common problem. hope my airbag doesn't kill me.

The airbag light comes on intermittently when the vehicle is in motion. i've been told that the clock spring is what is causing it. this same part has been recalled on the rhd vehicle but not the lhd. ive been told that this could cause the airbags to not deploy in the event of a crash. i also see this is becoming a very common problem on this year model
The airbag light of my 2008 jeep wranger intermittently comes on during driving and the horn doesn't work. likely a bad clockspring.
While driving my car started displaying issues with the air bag. the dash is intermittently displaying a airbag light. this continually turns on and off. i have researched solutions for this and learned that jeep wrangler 2007 has recalled this specific part but nothing has been done regarding subsequent years. i fear that this may pose a safety concern as it is a direct issue with the airbag.
Takata recall: jeep built jan. 24, 2008, airbag light has been an issue for over a year - horn has always been spotty but always lucky at inspection until recently. so, airbag light dinging/on and now horn not working due to clockspring. recall research showed to be eligible item but dealership and chrysler recall 800 # folks said this jeep didn't qualify. damage will be getting clockspring replaced by dealership for more than $500.
Clockspring wiring in the lhd side air bag circuit failed causing airbag indicator to turn on. paid around $700 tax to have this defective part replaced (((
I have no safety horn, no airbags, no cruise control and tire presure monitore gives faulty reading. all because of and due to a bad clock spring under the steering wheel.

Failed clockspring at 104,000 miles. intermitted airbag light.
The airbag light and chime randomly turns on and off while driving under all conditions.
Airbag light would come on then off repeatedly, while stationary and in motion. took into dealership diagnosed as "clock spring failed".
Airbag light continually goes on and off with chime while driving. research shows this is being investigated by odi and there should be a recall as this affects the driver side on lhd models. possible clockspring wiring issue. this is a serious safety concern and not just a routine "wear and tear" problem. chrysler fiat needs to issue a recall and fix the problem.

Clock spring failed and had to be replaced.
The airbag alarm goes off randomly (it might be 5-10 seconds, or several minutes between). after researching online, i see that this is often caused by the clock spring, which was recalled on the 2007 jeep wrangler. based on jeep forums, many drivers are having this problem and i believe the part should be recalled. it is a safety issue and may affect air bag deployment.
The vehicle displayed an airbag warning light (flashed on and off) that indicated a failure of the clockspring wiring in the driver side air bag circuit. code b1b06 set for driver airbag squib circuit 2 open an internal short inside of the clockspring was found. replaced clockspring module.
While driving, the warning chime sounds and the red airbag light comes on. then it goes off. then it comes on again. it happens over and over. this problem seems similar to nhtsa campaign number: 13v176000 but i haven't received any recall notice from chrysler.
Recently the air bag light in my jk jeep wrangler (2008) began illuminating. i did some investigation prior to servicing it at the dealer and determined it was likely the clockwork spring since there were some many reports of failure. in addition, my electronic sway bar disconnect system would not re-engage after a camping trip. i drove down a mountain pass and on a stretch of 75 mph interstate without a sway and an air bag which was dangerous. i took it into the dealership to get both issues looked at. jeep confirmed it was the clockwork spring causing the air bag light ($48.00 diagnosis) and that the sway bar disconnect motor ($96.00 diagnosis) had failed. they quoted me for $410 to get the clockwork spring fixed & $1410 to replace the sway bar. no promise was made to reimburse me for the diagnosis and repair cost should the issues become recalls since they are under investigation. i took initiative to self determine the cause of the sway bar not reconnecting since i suspected that the electronic motor was still functioning (i could hear and feel to motor operating before & after i took my vehicle into the dealership for service). after disassembling (never been tampered with prior), i found water and rusty parts inside and could see that the unit as poorly designed judging from the one small spring that is suppose to work to re-engage the sway bar by pushing the internal gears (now rusty) back together. i simply applied some grease to the parts and reinstalled the unit. to my delight this allowed the motor to reconnect the sway bar. it is unconscionable to put motorist in harms way without a functioning air bag system and / or sway bar due to poorly vehicle construction and then charge for diagnosis and repair costs. please issue recalls for the clockwork spring and the lack of water protection for the electronic sway bar disconnect system before fatalities occur.
July 10, 2015: driving to work approximately 8:15 am cst. car in front of me stopped suddenly and i felt the breaks were not slowing the vehicle down enough to avoid impact. with a vehicle on my right, my only option was to go left. i never saw the truck in the oncoming lane and hit head on. the airbag did not deploy on the driver's side. it did deploy on the passenger side, but no one else was in the vehicle with me. the upper body portion of the seat belt did not restrain me and i slammed face first into the steering wheel. i suffered a broken and dislocated wrist that required surgery, severe bruising of face, arms, chest, hips and legs. i feel this is a huge safety concern and should be rectified immediately.

The driver side airbag is not functioning due to a faulty clockspring!!! i actually own 3 2008's and all have had this issue!!! this is a commonly known problem with all jeep jk's, yet chrysler is simply ignoring this issue after recalling 2007 and 2008 rhd's!! this is absolutely ridiculous. i received no help from chrysler other than "we will notify you if a recall is made". they could provide me with zero information about how many people had this exact issue. here's their mailing address if you would like to let them know you disagree with this blatant lack of responsibility on their part. is there nothing more we can do until we can check the fatality square?? this is absurd. i'll be sending them a letter daily reminding them in case they forget. chrysler group po box 21-8004 auburn hills, mi 48321
Again i'm asking you to do your job. there are hundreds of complaints on the lhd jks clock springs being defective . if this is not a safety issue then what is? why will you not force chrysler to fix this safety issue ? are you protecting them because the ones recalled are postal jeeps ? what good are you if your not protecting us from bad parts ? do your job !!!!!!!!
Bad clock spring causing srs airbag light to illuminate. 2007 models were recalled however, no bulletins were sent for '08 models.
