We have classified the 294 complaints from 2008 Jeep Wrangler about AIR BAGS into the following categories.
On my2008jeepwrangler(lhd) dashboard, the airbag warning light flashes on every other minute with a chime, an indication that there is something malfunctioning or interfering with the vehicle's airbags.this has been a recurring issue and concern for many2008 jeep wrangler(lhd) owners, including myself, and has been shown time and time again to be caused by a faulty clockspring within the vehicle's steering wheel. this faulty clockspring is the culprit for potential airbag failure in the2008 jeep wrangler(lhd) during an accident or premature deployment when simply driving around. daimler chrysler has refused to address the safety concern of their faulty clockspring that can cause failure of the vehicle's airbags from properly deploying." today i the dealer confirmed that it was the clock spring and it cost me $550 to have it repaired. *tr
I first noticed prior to may 2014 that my cruise control had quit working but just figured the control had gone out. then about may 2014 the airbag, stability control and abs lights came on while i was driving and have been on since then. the jeep does still chime notifying me of the issue. after researching the problem i've come to conclusion its the clockspring, which has been recalled/warranty extended on several model year wranglers. i have a hard time believing understanding why this hasn't been extended to additional model years. is jeep waiting on xx number deaths and injuries to occur due to a faulty part related vehicle safety? *tr
Driving along on road and the airbag light started coming and going off every couple of minutes and chiming each time.
Air bag light goes on and off while driving and turning corners. chime sounds and horn does not work. *js
Airbag sensor light came on. took vehicle in and was told it is the airbag clock spring. there have been recalls on right side driver installs, which mine is not. however, there are numerous reports that left side driver install is defective as well. chrysler has given assistance to some customers in replacing the part that were not under the recall, but refused to assist me. it is a well known defect and i believe chrysler should be forced to recall the part on all jeep wranglers, especially admittedly knowing the problem and assisting some people with part replacement but not others. *tt
Airbag light on 4-door 2008 jeep wrangler unlimited x came on. vehicle was not wet or driven in a dusty environment. mechanic diagnosed it as a faulty clock spring but it is not covered on any warranties and all jeep recalls are only for previous year or a right hand drive vehicles. *tr
Horn doesn't work, i also get an unknown ding warning sound in the dash, i am afraid my airbag may not work as well. the clockspring must be broken. *tr
In nhtsa action number :pe11019 date :april 15, 2014 at 01:39 pm chrysler informed odi that it intends to initiate a consumer satisfaction campaign for my2007 lhd wrangler which will extend the cs warranty coverage for 10 years or 150,000 miles. accordingly the investigation was closed. the air bag warning in my jeep keep was coming on and off; i brought it to the dealer, who determined that the clock spring was defective and that it needed to be replaced. the repair cost over $750; the dealer informed me that despite chrysler representing to the nhtsa that it would extend the cs warranty coverage for 10 years and 150,000 miles (and securing closure of the investigation), chrysler was not providing the warranty coverage it promised. please investigate/inquire why chrysler is not doing so! thank you. *tt

Air bag light and chime begun to alert suddenly. the condition has continued with light and chime activating intermittently but with a constant short interval activation. *tr
The airbag warning light came on in my 2008 jeep wrangler. i contacted jeep and found the problem is not covered by my basic warranty any longer. so i went on line to see if i could fix it myself. i discovered that the most likely cause of this problem is a defective clock spring in the steering column. by reading jeep forums i discovered that this is a common problem in the 2008 jeep and in fact an extended warranty was required of jeep in the right hand drive versions of the vehicle. the apparent justification to exclude the left had drive vehicles is that mail carriers using the right hand version use the jeep with the windows down allowing dirt to enter the vehicle. i remind you that the jeep is marked to folks who will most likely drive the thing off road meaning gravel or dirt roads. where i live in a desert region of wyoming the dirt roads are usually covered in flour like dust so dirt gets everywhere. i suspect the real reason for allowing chrysler off the hook is the cost involved to warranty the rest of the vehicles. if the cause of the problem is a design defect then all of those vehicles who actually have the problem need the extended warranty. if left hand drive vehicles don?t have the problem then people won?t be asking for repair. it cost around $500 for this repair which many people may neglect causing their death. why are mail carrier lives more valuable than the rest of us? please reconsider the decision to disregard the health and welfare of the majority of jeep owners who have left hand drive vehicles at least in this country. i suspect the defective part is defective no matter what side of the vehicle it is installed on. *tr
I was driving home from work and when i exited from the highway, my airbag light came on. it proceeded to come on and go off over the next 15 min on the rest of my drive home. this seems to be a faulty clockspring, which leads to a faulty airbag. this should be covered under the extended 10 year/150,000 mile warranty that covers the 2007 lhd and 2008 rhd jeep wranglers. whether the steering is on the right or left side of a vehicle should not make a difference when it comes to driver safety. *tr
Air bag light came on. was caused by a defective clock spring. this is a known defect on the wrangler since recall was done on 2007 jeep wrangler and 2008 rhd jeep wrangler. *tr

Jeep 2008 wrangler had airbag indicator going off, so codes were checked. clock spring failure code. this is a liability and safety issue. *tr
Air bag light stays on, it has 27,000 miles on it. open a case with chrysler customer care 1 800-763-8422 the dealer here says not under warranty .they say there is no recall on that also. this is kind of stupid for this new of vehicle to have this problem. hopefully, someone can get this problem resolved since only the 2007 jks have been recalled for the same problem. all the years need a recall! *tr
My airbag light came on along with a chime. now the light and chime happen intermittently. this is the second time for this issue on my jeep. the first time i brought it to a dealer and they replaced the clockspring at a cost of over $400.00. this part is essential to the safety of myself and my passengers and needs to be replaced again. meanwhile, the rhd and 2007 wranglers have had a recall issued for this issue. well, i live in a dusty part of the country and in the summer drive with the window down a lot, just as the mail carriers with the rhd jeeps do. i actually purchased my jeep in november of 2007. it is a 2008 my but was made in 2007, immediately after those 2007 lhd jeeps that received the recall. i do not understand how this recall was not expanded to cover all wranglers that it affects. from what i have read the air bags will not operate properly when this issue is present. they could not deploy when necessary and/or deploy when not necessary. this is unacceptable for me to have this condition in my vehicle putting any passengers at risk. i will be having it replaced either way, again. *tr
I was on the highway and all of a sudden my airbag light came on. didn't know what was going on so i pulled over. i thought maybe it was just a one time thing but i traveled over 1000 miles with it dinging every little while. when i got to my destination the light was still coming on and i was told it was a spring and would cost 400.00 to 500.00 to fix. i feel that it is not my responsibility to fix since it is a safety issue. but not only that i also had to get the ball joints replaced, both upper and lower which cost over 1000.00. i was told by the mechanic that jeep does not put grease fittings on them so that they eventually go out. this could cause a very serious accident and these issues need to be resolved by the company before someone get hurt or worse killed. i love my jeep but all these issues are really disturbing. one other issue i noticed is i am always having to check the oil which is usually low. not sure what that is but i know others have complained about this. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 jeep wrangler. the contact stated that while driving 30 mph, the air bag warning light illuminated. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer, who stated that the clock spring was defective and needed to be replaced. the contact referenced nhtsa campaign i.d. number: 13v176000 (air bags) but was advised by the dealer that the vehicle was not included in the recall. the failure mileage was 91,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 jeep wrangler. the contact stated that while driving various speeds, the air bag warning light indicator illuminated intermittently. the failure was recurring. the vehicle was taken to a local mechanic, who diagnosed that the clock spring needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 100,000.
The airbag light and alarm warning goes on and off. on longer straight away it will turn off but as soon as i turn the steering wheel 45-90 degrees the alarm and light come on. very concerned that the airbag will deploy without collision. i've come to understand that 2007-2008 jeep wranglers are having this issue and it seems to be the clock spring mechanism/electrical board in the steering column. *tr

The airbag clock spring is malfunctioning. *tr
The airbag light blinks off and on and dings all the time. the clock spring is broken. *tr
Air bag light stays on. *tr
The airbag warning light illuminates intermittently coupled with a chime. it goes on and off while driving and irregular intervals. i've read as much as possible about the cause and have determined it is a faulty clock spring (mopar p/n 5156106ac) which is a safety restraint component but is not covered by a long term warranty. i am filing this complaint because the part in question seems to fail often per my online research and has never been recalled and is directly influencing the safety systems. *tr

My airbag light is constantly on and my cruise control no longer works. i am a lhd 2008 wrangler and as i have seen across the internet this is a huge problem. why is there no recall on the lhd 2008 wranglers when there is for the rhd and 2007 lhd wranglers. the same clock springs are used in all these vehicles and they are faulty across the board. this needs to be a recall as my airbag will not deploy if i get into an accident. chrysler is responsible and should be held accountable for this issue in my model yr and lhd. it doesn't matter if i am sitting, drive or whatever the airbag light is always on as soon as i start the engine and my cruise control does not work.
Jeep wrangler 2008 experiences intermittent airbag light on. appears to occur when wheels are not pointed straight ahead. intermittent loss of horn. suspect defective clockspring. *tr
Vehicle towbar brake fluid leaks suspension transmission. *tr
The same day after i got my 5 year power-train inspection done, my air bag light came on. the dealer said it was a bad clock spring but the existing recall for this part only covers right-hand steering jeeps and my jeep is a left-hand so it would not be covered. *tr
On the 2008 jeep wrangler (lhd) dashboard, the airbag warning light flashes on every other minute with a chime, an indication that there is something malfunctioning or interfering with the vehicle's airbags. eventually, the light simply remains on. this has been a recurring issue and concern for many 2008 jeep wrangler (lhd) owners, including myself, and has been shown time and time again to be caused by a faulty clockspring within the vehicle's steering wheel. this faulty clockspring is the culprit for potential airbag failure in the 2008 jeep wrangler (lhd) during an accident or premature deployment when simply driving around. daimler chrysler has refused to address the safety concern of their faulty clockspring that can cause failure of the vehicle's airbags from properly deploying. *tr
My wife was leaving work, as she started to drive away in our jeep wrangler the airbag light came on and chimed. it has continued to do so, intermittently, ever since then. i was working out of town at the time when i received a call from her. she was concerned that the airbag may deploy unexpectedly or worse, not work if she were to get into a wreck. i was able to do a simple google search and find many jeep wrangler owners with the same issue, a faulty clock spring. from what i've seen, the 2007 jeep wranglers have an extended factory warranty to cover this issue. unfortunately, for my wife and myself, we are not financially able to pay out of pocket for what i'm told is about a $500 repair for our 2008 wrangler. i am more then willing to repair or pay for repairs of items that wear out or need to be replaced while owning and maintaining a vehicle. however, replacing a clock spring to help maintain the functionality of my vehicles airbag system is not something that is commonly ever replaced. the amount of jeep wrangler owners that have come to the internet to voice their concern on the matter makes it apparent to me that this is either a sub-par part or design flaw and chrysler/jeep should be responsible for it.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 jeep wrangler. the contact stated that he started the vehicle and the air bag warning light illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection where they stated that the left clock spring had to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified. the failure mileage was 52,000.
While driving approx. 55 mph down paved road jeep suddenly began constant horn honk, wipers started going, every dash light came on(abs, engine, airbag, etc). this continued for about 1 minute then stopped. we turned around to go back home and about 2 minutes later same thing began again. the second time, along with above symptoms, we began to lose power and were unable to accelerate to maintain speed. we pulled off to the side of the road and turned key off. horn, and wipers kept going. then the windshield wiper sprayers started spraying continuously. we were unable to start jeep at this time. this went on for about 3 minutes and finally stopped. jeep then started and we were able to drive home.
Airbag warning light came on and off then came on and stays on most of the time. warning beep sounds every time i turn a corner. took it to a jeep dealer and he said it was the clock spring and would cost $480.00 to replace it. i read on a jeep owners forum that 2007 jeeps had warranty extended to cover this. sounds like a lot of 2008 jeep owners are having the same problem, but chrysler is unwilling to extend the warranty for us. *jb
On august 10th on a trip to tulsa while i had my cruise set on or about 70mph i received an airbag alert on my dash. since that alert it has continued to alert approximately every 3-5 min while you drive. today i was informed by my dealer that is was a faulty clock spring which may or may not cause the airbag not to deploy in the event of an accident and it may or may not deploy without provocation. upon research this is a widespread issue with this particular model jeep and clearly is a safety hazard. there should be a forced safety recall on this part. *tr

Traveling down road, noticed air bag light staying on, esp wouldn't work, horn inoperative. called jeep dealer and they said to come in for diagnosis as the air bag light indicated a fault in air bag system. took to dealers and they had to replace clock-spring wiring harness to cure problem. not in warrenty period and when chrysler was contacted they would not accept cost as it was not under recall. i therefore had to pay for repair. the dealer said to keep invoice as it may later be a safety recall. it should be as i was told the problem could cause the air bag system to malfunction. being in the jeep community i know of thousands of jeep wranglers having the same problem. copy of invoice attached.
Horn stuck on until i pull wire off of horn. air bag light is on esp light is on and traction control light is on. research on jeep forums appears to be the clock spring. many other 2008 models seem to be having the same issue. please provide some resolution to this issue. *tr
My 2008 jeep wrangler sahara just started blaring the horn out of nowhere while i was driving. many people slowed down to get out of my way, traffic patterns changed near me and almost caused a few accidents as everyone looked to see who was laying on their horn. the horn had a constant honk until i pulled out the fuses to disconnect it. my airbag light turned on and i have no idea if the airbag is working. i replaced the fuses and the horn did not honk again for a while until one night, about a week later, at about 2:00 am my jeep woke my entire neighborhood with its blaring horn as i raced to pull my fuses out again. i looked up the possible cause of this problem and found many jeep forums dedicated to the faulty "clock springs" in the steering columns that create these hazardous situations. *tr
Since early july, my 2008 jeep wrangler 2dr lhd has lost horn functionality, cruise control functionality, and has been illuminating the airbag warning light. i have researched this issue and i believe there should be a safety recall on the 2008 wrangler to replace faulty clocksprings just as there was for the 2007 wrangler. *tr
Upon turning on my jeep the airbag light did not go out after the start-up light check. when restarting the vehicle it went out. while driving it came back on and chimed, it has continued to come on intermittently while driving and while parked. the esp also began intermittently illuminating while driving on a smooth straight highway. this intermittent issue has persisted for over a year. in doing research both issues can potentially be related back to the airbag clockspring. a recall exists for rhd jeep wranglers of my same year that use the same part. when contacting a jeep dealer about this safety issue they said they would not do anything to resolve it unless i paid for all parts and labor. in checking online forums this is apparently not as rare as the initial recall states. there are even online tutorials on how to change it yourself since the manufacturer doesn't recognize this as a problem on lhd jeeps. (http://www.jk-forum.com/forums/jk-write-ups-39/clockspring-replacement-273201/) while this hasn't caused a safety problem yet, my concern is if i am involved in a collision that i will not have the protection i am supposed to from a faulty manufacturer part. *tr
