We have classified the 294 complaints from 2008 Jeep Wrangler about AIR BAGS into the following categories.
My airbag light has turned on. the vehicle has been diagnosed as needing the clockspring. jeep has not offered to help with the repair. i see they have recalled the part for the year my car was made but they are not making any recall for my vehicle or helping with the cost of repair. *tr
Clock spring is broken, causing horn and airbag to be inoperable. vehicle was being driven on road and subjected to normal driving conditions. requesting nhtsa consider a recall for left hand drive vehicles similar to nhtsa recall 11v-528, (same year and model only rhd.) *tr
I started my car to take my daughter to school and heard the chime and noticed my air bag light was on and she was sitting in the front passenger seat, this is not safe for her or anyone else to be sitting in the front passenger seat. i drove her to school and the light and chime would go off and on randomly. i took it into the dealership yesterday and they informed me that it was the steering wheel clock spring and that it's going to cost me $500 to replace. needless to say i did not have it repaired yesterday due to being a single mother on a fixed income and that costs is more than the payment i make every month for the car. i noticed that there is a recall for 2007 wranglers and 2008 wranglers right hand (rhd), mainly post office vehicles to fix this exact problem and find it odd that the only people left out of this recall issue is those of us who have (lhd), is there a reason for this decision? either this is a safety violation that we all should be included in, not just the 2008 government obtained vehicles, or it is not, this is not rocket science people. *tr
Airbag light and warning bell goes on and off repeatedly. this seems to be a well documented concern and points towards safety issues extending from non working air bags to a driver distraction. this problem also seems to be indicative of chrysler's quality control and poor customer service.
Airbag light went on. *tr
On my 2008 jeep wrangler (lhd) dashboard, the airbag warning light flashes on every other minute with a chime, an indication that there is something malfunctioning or interfering with the vehicle's airbags.this has been a recurring issue and concern for many 2008 jeep wrangler (lhd) owners, including myself, and has been shown time and time again to be caused by a faulty clockspring within the vehicle's steering wheel. this faulty clockspring is the culprit for potential airbag failure in the 2008 jeep wrangler (lhd) during an accident or premature deployment when simply driving around. daimler chrysler has refused to address the safety concern of their faulty clockspring that can cause failure of the vehicle's airbags from properly deploying." right hand vehicles have been recalled but not the left like i drive. *tr
Over the last month or so, the air bag light goes on and off at random times. sometimes it will not come on at all and other times it will go on and stay on. also, over the last few days, i've noticed a 'shaking' while driving, starting around 50mph. *tr

My airbags were deactivated due to a faulty clockspring. the same clockspring was recalled in the rhd jeeps, and in the 2007 jeeps, but the same exact clockspring isn't recalled for the 2008 jeeps. i just paid $540 to have it replaced so i could pass state inspection. there should be a warning on all newer jeeps: "if you expose this vehicle to any dust, dirt, water, or elements, the will be expensive equipment failure." --or-- "not designed for off road or top down use". *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 jeep wrangler. while driving at 35 mph, the air bag warning light illuminated. the failure occurred each time the vehicle was started. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the clock springs were faulty and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 45,000. ma 08/10/15
The clock spring in my 2008 jeep wrangler unlimited has gone bad and my airbag light has come on. this has been a recall on the 2007 wrangler but from my understanding there have been many different model years that have the same issue. i went through jeep and they said hey would not cover it so i had to purchase the part myself. the airbag is something i feel they should not take so lightly. if there is a known problem and a person takes the time to contact customer support in my opinion they should take care of it warranty or not.
Tl* takata recall. the contact owns a 2008 jeep wrangler. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign numbers: 14v631000 (electrical system, visibility) and 16v352000 (air bags). the part needed for the repair was not available. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue. the contact had not experienced a failure. vin tool confirms parts not available. parts distribution disconnect.

Started my jeep early saturday morning. my air bag indicator light came on as normal, but did not shut off like usual. i was a bit worried to drive it as i assume the air bag will not deploy in the event of an accident. however i chose to drive anyhow. the indicator light will go off but quickly comes back on at around 20-30mph. followed by a ding each time it returns back on. as it turns out, my mechanic scanned my jeep, bringing up the code of a faulty airbag, clock spring. as a safety issue, i was concerned and called chrysler customer service dept to see if a recall had been issued. unfortunately, nothing for my vin# is coming up. so that means i am on my own in repairing this safety issue. my vehicle is not covered under warranty. so that means i am to pay out of pocket. dealership parts department has them in stock, but they cost $270 only in parts. not including labor to install the clock spring. please be aware this is a very known issue in most newer jeep jk's. i follow many forums for my jeep. almost every single one of them talk about this known issue. yet chrysler is not stepping up and handling this in a safe manner. i am thoroughly disappointed in them and upset now i have no active airbag. till i save enough cash to have this clock spring installed. :-( please pray nothing happens to me and my family. as it will be an expensive choice chrysler is making. thanks for your time.. I took it to jeep because the seat belt light keeps coming on. they told me it was the clock spring and they wanted $1000 for it to be fixed. no i find out its happening to all jeeps. they still won't go good for it. it has happened to other year jeeps by still no recall. it's a defect and i would like it to be fixed. i have never received any recall info on my jeep.
While driving, the airbag light started flashing and an audible chime went off each time the light flashed. the light and chime would appear about every 5 minutes. i took my vehicle in for service and found out that the problem was the airbag clock spring. i also found out that there has been a recall on rhd vehicles of this same model for the airbag clock spring. after researching the problem, i found out that there have been numerous reports of this problem for lhd vehicles with no recall. are they only recalling the rhd vehicles because majority of them are driven by government employees, and they expect everyone else to pay $600 to have this problem fixed? *tr
Takatarecall on 10/24/2014 i took my jeep wrangler to landmark dodge to be worked on do to my jeep air bag dash light have been on for two weeks. i was told that my air bag steering rack and pinions shaft needed to be replace the cost would be $905.57 cash i paid.
The passenger airbag light goes off when the vehicle is turning, yet now does it for long periods of time. even when a passenger is in the seat, the light stays off. huge safety issue for these vehicles. this reflects chrysler's recall number is l37. *tr
Air bag warming light is constantly on and flashes and chimes while begin driven. i was told it was a malfunctioning airbag sensor in the steering column and that they have seen many of these cases in the jeep wrangler "jk" and that there was a recall for the model year 2007 but not for any of the newer model years. *tr

My air bag comes on/off while turning my steering wheel. according to the forums it is a clockspring; why is this an issue still? it is a safety thing with a faulty part that they recalled for the 2007 models, and it is the same part that is in mine! *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 jeep wrangler. while driving approximately 30 mph, the vehicle stalled. the air bag and mil warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was able to restart, but the failure recurred twice. the dealer stated that the tipm module needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was notified. the vin was unavailable. the failure mileage was 80,000.
September of 2014 last year i noticed the airbag malfunction light come on. i called my local jeep chrysler dealer and left a few messages about recalls and if this meant a problem with my airbags. no one ever called me back after 2 weeks of waiting the airbag malfunction light went off and it would stay off for weeks and mysteriously come on periodically. so after a few months go by in december of 2014 i was at a supermarket parking lot with my wife and three children when we pulled into a parking space amd thw horn, lights, wipers and dash lit up. i quickly disconnected the neg battery and reconnected it two or three times and it stoppped. i looked online for similar problems and disconmected the horn amp via fusebox. jumpstart to feb 2015 while on the highway the horn blares and wipers go off but the vehicle turns off and i glided to the breakdown lane while other cars avoided me. 5/27/2015 my wife opened the jeep door and it triggered the wipers, dash lights and wiper fluid to spray. when you're on a fixed income bringing your vehicle in for repairs is not always feasable. i took the jeep to autozone free diagnostic and got a code u0141. after reading the similar stories we're going into the dealership for repairs.
Airbag light came on. diagnostic was clockspring needed replacement. *tr
The air bag light comes on and off intermittently. following up on this issue, seems to be a faulty clock spring and this should be addressed by chrysler since the same faulty problem was addressed with the 2007 wranglers. apparently this issue was never resolved. my local mechanic even told me about the faulty clock spring issue and wonders why it has yet to be addressed. *tr
I own two jeeps, one a 2007 wrangler unlimited and the other 2008 jeep wrangler unlimited. i have had to replace two clock springs in the 2007 wrangler and recently the second replaced clock spring in the 2008 wrangler went out. this is a total of 4 clock spring failures in two jeeps. i had received an extended warranty on the 2007 wrangler and was reimbursed. but not the 2008 wrangler. chrysler did give me a partial reimbursement on the first clock spring that failed in the 2008. on this second one, they are saying they will offer me another reimbursement but again only partial. they will not pay for the diagnostic to confirm it was the clock spring. being that i am now on my 4th clock spring in two jeeps i don't think i should have to pay for another clock spring and go through the pain of another reimbursement. this should be a recall. currently my airbags are not working while i fight this issue. *tr
Air bag light and chime continue to go off due to faulty clockspring. *tr
While driving on the highway, the airbag light goes on and off intermittently. the horn also does not work at all. i took it to the local mechanic to have the horn fixed, and was informed it was a bad clock-spring. chrysler has extended the warranty for the rh 2008 wranglers and all 2007 wranglers, but the warranty for the lh 2008 wranglers, like mine, has not been extended to be replaced. this is a major safety issue as the horn does not work, and i am unsure if my airbag will deploy, if needed. there is clearly an issue as there are a flood of complaints. it is time for the nhtsa to step in and get this taken care of. i don't feel i should have to pay $500.00 to have the clock-spring fixed when it is an obvious issue across the line in the 2007 and 2008 models. i should also mention that i have also experienced the "death wobble" which is what was the initial issue which had me take the jeep into the shop. over this past year, the jeep would just start shaking violently at about 55 mph every once in a while. this last time, i pulled over to the side of the road, turned off the jeep and tried again, only to have it start shaking violently again. this is a major issue that needs addressed. i could have been killed as there were vehicles on the freeway all around me. i could barely control the vehicle to pull it off the road. the mechanic replaced the steering stabilizer, the calipers, and the rotors to alleviate the problem. interestingly, when i walked in to talk to them, they knew exactly what it was as they have had similar complaints that needed repairs for the same vehicle and problem from other customers. this was a $350.00 repair. i point this second issue out so other jeep owners will know what to have repaired if chrysler does nothing. *tr
The airbag light and chime is going off. according to the manual when this happens you are to take it to the dealer. after waiting a week for an appointment with my closest dealer and more than a hour for them trying to diagnose them problem. they tell me it is not the airbag but the clock spring and that i owe them $75 dollars to diagnose the problem. i ask them if it is covered and they tell me the part costs approximately $300 or more. i checked the computer it appears that this is a common problem among this vehicle but chrysler jeep refuses to address it. there is a recall for it but only in right hand driven vehicles. being that i am a mother of 4 i am terrified to drive with this light on but i cannot afford to fix this problem. i really don't known what to do. *tr
The clockspring assembly on my 2008 left hand drive jeep is defective. i experience an intermittent check airbag indicator light. the defective clockspring assembly could result in broken airbag circuits. in the event of a crash necessitating airbag deployment, a broken electrical circuit in the airbag clockspring wiring assembly can lead to non-deployment of the driver-side frontal airbag and will not be able to properly protect the driver. chrysler recalled 2008 right hand drive jeeps for the same reason. i don't understand how a recall was done for right-hand drive vehicles and not left hand drive vehicles. it is the same safety issue. *tr
I had to get a coilspring replaced which was defective and causing the air bag warning light to illuminate. the issue was recalled for right hand driven jeeps. all jeeps should be recalled that are affected by this issue and jeep should make the repair free of charge. *tr
Air bag light come on and has stayed on. since this happened the cruise control no longer works. from what i've reviewed this is a bad clock spring.

Air bag light flashes randomly. the inside of the jeep has never been wet or the vehicle has never been in an accident. clockspring is bad in the steering wheel. this is a widely known jeep wrangler issue and should be a covered recall due to the safety issues created by a non-functioning airbag. the repair costs exceed $500 at the dealer. look up jk airbag light issues on line for pages of people experiencing the same issue. *tr
The airbag warning light intermittently has come on since 6/18/2014. what started has intermittent warnings has turned into a solid warning light. after examination by the jeep dealer the prognosis is that it is the clock spring. to my understanding this is the same clock spring that is present in 2007 and earlier models, which were recalled due to faulty clock springs. according to the dealer and online forums the failure of this safety component is quite common. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 jeep wrangler. the contact stated that the air bag warning indicator illuminated on the instrument panel. the vehicle was diagnosed, but the failure was unable to be duplicated. the manufacturer stated that the vin was excluded from nhtsa campaign number: 13v176000 (air bags). the failure mileage was 98,002.
Pulling out of a parking space the other day and a red airbag light appeared on my dash indicating some sort of airbag fault, also cruise control and horn stopped working. further research showed that the clock springs are a common failure among jeep wranglers thus making the airbags non operational until repair is made. *tr
Jeep has recalled all right hand drive wranglers for broken contacts of the clock spring. i have a left handed wrangler with a defective clock spring. the recall should be expanded to all wranglers. *tr
The clock spring on these vehicles are notorious for being faulty. chrysler recalled right hand drive jeeps for this same issue. this disables the horn the cruise control, the airbag, and the electronic stability control. all very important issues in case of an accident. *tr
Tl * the contact owns a 2008 jeep wrangler. the contact stated that while driving at unknown speed, the air bag light illuminated and was making a noise. the vehicle was taken to a dealer. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 13v176000 (air bags). the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileage was 55,000.
My airbag light continually comes on and off, indication of a clock spring failure as identified in chrysler recall m31, however that recall for some reason only covers rhd vehicles. my standard 2008 lhd vehicle has the same symptom, along with many other wrangler owners. *tr
My air bag light will turn on and off every couple of minutes. *tr
The air bag light keeps going on an off. i had it checked at the dealer and they stated it was the clockspring that was bad. this is not is not covered under the lifetime powertrain warranty or my lifetime added care plus warranty that i purchased. this is a safety item and should be fixed by chrysler. *tr
2008 jeep wrangler (lhd) dashboard, the airbag warning light flashes on every other minute with a chime, an indication that there is something malfunctioning or interfering with the vehicle's airbags. *tr
I just turned my car on that morning and my air bag light came on. i took my vehicle to pep boys and they looked up any recalls for my air bags. they found a recall for the air bag clockspring. i then took my wrangler to the chrysler jeep dealership and told them about the recall and my airbag light. they said that my vehicle wasn't on the recall list so it wasn't considered affected. so i paid them to do a diagnostics to figure out what the problem was and they told me it was the clockspring and it needed to be replaced. despite it being the exact same problem other wranglers were recalled for, they said that they wouldn't cover the repairs and i would have to pay over $600 dollars for them to replace it. my car had less than 65,000 miles on it when this problem occurred. i have looked online and this is a problem that many 2008 and later wranglers have been experiencing. this is a very serious safety concern and there should be a recall to have this fixed. *tr
The airbag indicator light on the instrument cluster illuminated. the obdii code reader validated the presence of a airbag system fault. apparently a "clock spring" in the steering wheel fails and causes faults in the airbag system.the jeep dealer says 2007 "clock spring" is covered under recall but 2008 "clock spring is not covered under recall. i believe that emergency restraint systems are covered under all circumstances for a certain amount of years of date of manufacture. *tr
Upon exiting the parking lot of my employer, the airbag signal light illuminated and sounded. i immediately pulled into a nearby parking spot and turned the car off in hopes of resetting the alarm. this did not work and the light has been illuminated ever since. after some online research i came across forums for the clock spring failure, however, my horn and turn signals work properly and the airbag fuses are still functional. i have taken the vehicle to my mechanic for a computer diagnostic, however, no codes were given and he said "well, we should start with the clock spring and see if that fixes the problem." i called chrysler/jeep in hopes of attaining some additional information. to my dismay, the woman on the other line informed my that i was over my warranty mileage and "nothing can really be done." i truly don't mind the light or even the sporadic (every 2 or 3 minute) ding the light makes. what i do mind is the fact that my vehicle, with doors and a roof mainly to protect against the elements, has non-functioning airbags that chrysler doesn't seem to desire to remedy.
