I was driving my 2006 jeep commander down the interstate when it jumped into 3rd gear and the check engine light came on. i pulled over at the next exit and turned the car off. i started the car again and put it in drive and it still goes to 3rd gear and the check engine light remains on. my vehicle is currently at firestone and i'm waiting to get a call about my truck. has anyone else experienced this issue and if so, how was it resolved? *tr
My car has a recall, manufacturer recall number p41. it is a very dangerous issue and the manufacturer states recall incomplete, remedy not yet available. yet they say this may result in loss of engine power, power steering, and braking assist increasing the risk of a crash and disabling one or more of the vehicles safety features including the frontal airbags. i have not even been officially notified. i had another issue and came across this. i went to my dealer and they said they couldn't fix it yet, and they can not provide me with a rental. they have known about this since september 3, 2014. why isn't something being done to protect the people on the roads. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. the contact noticed a strong odor of exhaust fumes inside the vehicle. the contact inspected the vehicle and indicated that the exhaust manifold bolt was structurally unsound. the vehicle had not been diagnosed by a dealer or an independent mechanic. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was not available.
I was driving down the highway at 60 mph and completely out of the blue the car shut off and cars were honking and i had to get the car to the side of the road and engine light came on. i sat there and waited to make sure the car was not overheating or anything else but no lights had come on or any type of warning. i then started the car back up and it ran fine but the engine light had come on. i took the car in to get fixed and they said it was a loose air filter box. i fixed this and did not have the problem for about a year and then the other day driving down the road at 50 mph the car shutoff. its very scary for a car to suddenly shut off with no warning whatsoever and i'm so afraid i will get into an accident. i just had a recall done to the car and they thought it would take care of it but it is still doing it. i just paid this car off and really i am scared to drive it now. *tr

I have a 06 jeep commander that has been completely shutting down while i'm driving. the rpms go up over 3 and 4 and the gears shifts from high to low. and also my engine light comes on and stays on. *tt
I was pulling out of my driveway when all the instrument lights came on. i thought it had stalled! when i looked down, the ob data screen said awd system failed. i put it in park turned off the key and tried to restart it and it would not. that's when i looked up and noticed a lot of white smoke coming from the front of my car! within a second it turned to black smoke! i smelled something burning. i hurried up and got my son and i out of the jeep and backed away, and within a few seconds there was a pop and the jeep engine compartment was on fire. we called 911. *tr
I own a 2006 jeep commander ltd. with the 5.7l hemi. date of manufacturer was 06/06. in the past year my commander has began stalling out sporadically while stopped completely. it occurs at any time, night or day, usually only when the engine is cold or cool. the problem occurs when i come to a complete stop at a stop sign, stop light, or any other complete stop in drive or reverse. when i come to a complete stop the rpm's drop and the vehicle stalls out. no warning lights or check engine lights show up on the dash. when it occurs at night all the external vehicle lights turn off, thus making me and my vehicle vulnerable to other traffic. it does not trip a code in the computer so the dealer cannot diagnose the problem. the first time i took my vehicle in for maintenance regarding the problem the dealer recommended i replace the egr valve so i did what they recommended. the problem still occurs. the dealer advised me that they cannot duplicate the problem therefore there is nothing they can do to correct the problem. when my vehicle stalls out it typically will do it 3-5 additional times per trip and it happens at least once per week. i have read that numerous people are having the same problems and jeep has no fix. i am very concerned with this problem because it is unsafe as i was nearly struck by another vehicle. recently i was traveling down the street at night and was preparing to turn left at a stop light. i stopped in the middle of the intersection to wait for the oncoming traffic to pass, when my car stalled out and all of the lights turned off (headlights, running lights, etc) making my vehicle completely invisible to traffic. i was unable to move the vehicle until i placed it in neutral and had to restart the engine and move out of the intersection. please look further into this problem with 2006 jeep commanders as this is not something that should happen. *tr
This has happened twice, i was driving home from work at 55mph with my new born child, and the engine shut off, the electirc shut off and the power sterring quit. the car behind me almost smashed into me. the jeep came to a stop and then i turned the key and it turned back on. please help me! *tr
The vehicle will stall at slow speeds and during idle. no codes are stored in the computer so there is no way for jeep to track it down. it has had all the recalls corrected according to jeep. *tt
This problem happens year round. once you put the vehicle into drive, all of the shift lights "prnd" light up and the vehicle won't accelerate. if you are already driving down the road/ freeway, it will randomly light up and stop accelerating. when it randomly occurs, it happens with no warning, and you have to attempt to pull the vehicle over to the side of road, put it into neutral or park or restart the vehicle, and attempt it again. the check engine light will come on and the problem will happen repeatedly over a week period, then the problem will stop for a week or two and then resurface at the worst time- for example an intersection, an on-ramp, a busy street, and it has presented huge safety issues for me and my family. does it take someone dying for this to get recalled? i have read forum after forum of the same issue amongst consumers with my exact make, model, and year (and earlier models) and yet, when i called jeep, they say they have never heard of it, there is no recall, and i've been turned away. *kb
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. the contact stated the engine would sporadically misfire. the dealer inspected the vehicle and determined that the cylinder head was defective. the contact believed the failure to be a manufacturing defect due to the low mileage of the vehicle. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileage was 37,000. updated 09/01/11*lj the dealer ran various test and indicated the failure was due to excessive carbon build-up. updated 09/12/11
2006 jeep commander does not start. we have to try about 30 times sometimes to get it to start. it just makes a clicking noise. also the jeep commander will stall while driving. (very dangerous) especially with two kids. another problem is it gets stuck in low gear or 4x4 (not sure which). i have read complaint after complaint on the internet about these same problems with many many 2006 commanders. i am very displeased with how jeep has swept these problems under the carpet. yes, they have had a few recalls, but nothing to fix these very serious and very dangerous defects. please help, as we spent a good amount of money on what we thought and needed to be a reliable vehicle. it is not reliable at all. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. the contact was driving 50 mph when the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle was moved off-road for fifteen minutes and the engine was turned off. the contact was able to restart the vehicle and was taken to a mechanic shop for inspection. the mechanic was unable to locate a failure within the vehicle. the dealer was not contacted and the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 70,000.
2006 jeep commander their are 3 problems which i believe are all interrelated and probably have something to do with electrical system. firstly, the car 75% will not start, will not crank, and all you will hear is a clicking noise. secondly, the car while idling in traffic will lunge forward with higher rpm (with my foot off the accelerator mind you) luckily i have been able to brake in time each time it does that. the only problem is that when i apply the brake the car will then stall and the nonstarting problem will reoccur. lastly and most dangerously, the vehicle will cut out/stall at highway speeds - 65-70 mph. this has happened numerous times to me (while going around dangerous curves and thank god i have been able to control the vehicle). i have called chrysler numerous times and their only advice is to bring it into a dealership for a 'diagnostic' where they try to replicate the problem. i have done this and believe they keep trying until the problem does not replicate because it does it almost every time with me. chrysler has a serious problem with this vehicle. it is not only a hassle but a life safety issue. there are thousands of postings on the internet just like mine and chrysler still will no acknowledge the problem. this car need to be 100% recalled and taken off the road as it is a death trap. i would like to sell my car but i cannot morally sell this dangerous car to another unsuspecting customer. please help with this problem. there are thousands like me who are being told off by chrysler. this problem must be resolved or deaths will certainly occur. *tr
I have been having problems with my 2006 jeep commander stalling and the rpm idling..it continues to stall on me while driving on the freeway (70 mph) and on the surface roads. it has been at the cerritos dodge dealership at least every two weeks since april 2011..they continue to fix something but tell me that car is fine and the next week it is back again. even the service advisor told he that he didn't think i would ever put my kids in that jeep again. i picked it up may 28th and was told that they cleaned the circuit board and that everything would be fine...needless to say, the jeep is at the dealership again..they keep telling me that nothing is wrong with it, but yet, it stalled on me twice today. once on the way home from work and on the way to the dealership...i keep asking chrysler and jeep corp for help because this jeep is dangerous and they refuse to help me because it is out of warranty. it has been at the dealership at least 5 times since april 8, 2011. please help me, i have all the documentation to support my concerns...i have spent alot of money getting this jeep repair and it still stalls ....please help me, i am concerned about my family's safety. *tr
As my mother was getting onto the 105 east fwy the engine made a loud bang and rumbling noises. immediately following the engine completely turned off and the car was still in motion. the brakes were functioning properly thus my mother was able to come to a full stop on the shoulder of the fwy ramp. all the engine oil was spilling out of the vehicle. once the car was towed to the dealer, they said the engine had a hole and not repairable. the car is barely 5 years old and purchased new. last oil change was done on 3/16/11 and the auto center did not report any engine issues.

I purchased a 2006 jeep commander 5.7 l hemi in may of 2009 with 46k miles .shortly after the power steering pump went out ,i had it replaced .then the car started to stall pretty much everyday and i took to the dealer and was told it needed a new battery . two days later the car stalled again on the interstate and this time the dealer told me that i needed a new ignition switch and the problem will be fixed. this reduce the amount of stalls and it will happen about twice a month . then i was driving with my son in the 3rd row seat and i cut off by another car and had to slam on my brakes the belt buckle broke off and my son end up on the floor . in july 2010 i was driving at about 65 mph and all of the sudden all the lights started to flash and the dash board lit up and engine stalled ,i lost the power steering ,accelerator become very loose and stuck to the floor ,brakes did not work 'i mput the car in neutral and used the emergency brakes to stop. there is smoke coming out of the hood so i got out of the car and called a tow truck . at the dealer i was told that there was a complete engine failure and that i needed a new engine . the car is out of warranty and the cost will be 8k to fix. *tr
My 2006 jeep commander shut off while i was driving at 40mph this week. i lost power steering, my acceleration, and then the whole car shut down. i brought it to jeep and the found absolutely nothing wrong with the car and are not providing any resolution to what i am supposed to do with the car. *tr
My 2006 jeep commander has now stalled 4 times for no apparent reason. the engine dies and i lose power steering and brakes. the first time was when i was pulling into a parking lot. i managed to restart it and no harm was done. the second time i was pulling out of my driveway, and again i was able to restart it and no harm was done. the third time was last week. this time it stalled and i could not restart it. i had it towed to a dealer, sherman jeep in skokie, il, for repairs. they had it a week and charged me $616.00 and could not give me a satisfactory explanation as to why it stalled. on the way home from the dealership i took the expressway and the car stalled at 65 mph in heavy traffic. it was extremely difficult to control and i almost collided with a truck. i thought i was going to die. i managed to get it over to the side of the road, but it would not immediately start. after about 15 minutes i tried it again, and this time it started. i got home, but i am scared to death to drive this car. *tr
I have a 2006 jeep commander limited v8 5.7l hemi. it is a low mileage vehicle, always garaged and never been in an accident. about 6 months ago it began stalling when going from reverse to drive. the electrical did not go off, the engine simply stalled. this happened countless times easily 20+ occurrences. we took it to the dealer and they couldn't find anything wrong with it, they told us to use higher octane fuel and they updated the software in the car... a week later my wife was at work and it would not even turn over even though all of the electrical components worked fine. we had it towed and they replaced the battery and told us that was the problem. yesterday i was driving the truck, it was in drive and as i slowed to a stop it stalled - again the electrical remained on. we took it to the dealer this morning and they told us it was not part of the original recall and they needed to keep it, but couldn't tell us what was wrong, we called chrysler and they couldn't tell us anything either. i have two young children and this could be horrible if this happened on the highway. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. while driving 55 mph, the vehicle stalled followed by the illumination of the check engine light. he was able to move the vehicle off of the road and restart it. the dealer cleaned the pcm and replaced the drivers door wiring harness. the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer where he was awaiting a diagnosis of the failure. the manufacturer was contacted but would not provide any assistance. the failure mileage was 37,150 and the current mileage was 57,300.
I own a 2006 jeep commander and i have had to take it in to have the bolts in the manifold replaced three times now. we bought the jeep brand new in aug. 06. the first time the bolts broke were in may 08, the 2nd time was july 09 and now apr 10. the first time the bolts broke the jeep was under warranty, the other 2 times i've had to pay out of pocket for the repairs. we drive the vehicle for everyday use and there should be no reason for these bolts to keep breaking. i have called chrysler to let them know about it, but got no where. the first incident i had one broken bolt, the 2nd time there were 3 bolts broken and this time there are 2 broken. we have owned many cars and never once had to replace bolts in the manifold until purchasing this jeep. my mechanic tells me that bolts breaking off in the manifold is not a normal thing that should be happening. the commander we own has an 8 cylinder engine in it. *tr
My 2006 jeep commander (hemi 5.7) engine stalled and lost all power at 75 mph on the highway. my 3 kids, wife and imyself could have been killed. it has also stalled 4 other times on the road at slow speeds. all the electrical controls are lost and the vehicle stalles until i shut it off then on again. *tr

2006 jeep commander 5.7 l hemi 4x4 first incident @ around 22,000 miles current miles on vehicle 50,100 miles engine stalls frequently when driving forward or reverse and when coming to a stop. will stall at anytime with loss of all power (steering and braking) and engine will completely shut off by itself. happened more than 30+ times since we purchased the vehicle in 2006. since then, even when the service adviser experience the vehicle stall in their service drop off area the vehicle check engine light nor codes came on so the dealer can not trace the issue. vehicle was still in factory warranty and is now in extended warranty. the dealer stated that it needs a tune up ($700.00). we had it service for the tune up and the vehicle continued to stall. the dealer then stated that we needed to change the battery ($300.00), so we had it serviced again and the vehicle still continue to stall. contacted chrysler corp. and seemed like there was nothing that they can do to trouble shoot this stalling issue. i haven't received a reply back from them in 3 weeks now. i don't want my family or any other families out there to be the first to get into an accident for chrysler corp. to take action. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. while driving approximately 5-10 mph, the vehicle stalled suddenly. the contact shifted into park and restarted the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer but the failure could not be duplicated. the failure occurred daily. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer 3-4 times but the failure still could not be duplicated. the vehicle had not been repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 55,000 and the current mileage was 67,000.
The stalling problems with my jeep started the first week i bought it. it had 17,000 miles. it would idle and then stall at stop lights or when parked or just shut down while driving. luckily each time i was able to get to the side of the road without being hit by another vehicle. other problems include not starting sporadically. battery has been replaced twice, alternator replaced. in the shop 5 different times for this same problem and they tell me nothing is wrong with it. other models from the same year were recalled for similar issues but my vehicle was not included in the recall. also, seat belt in 2nd row does not latch. chrysler needs to do something because there are 700+ complaints on here for the same issue and no one can tell me what is wrong!! *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. the contact stated that while braking to a complete stop, the vehicle stalled without warning. the failure was experienced numerous times and the vehicle would restart after several moments. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who performed a diagnostic but was unable to generate any failure codes. the manufacturer was contacted and a complaint was filed but no other assistance was offered. the vehicle was not repaired and the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 50,000 and the current mileage was 62,000.
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. the vehicle suddenly stalled without warning while driving approximately 40 mph. the radio and headlights stayed on but the engine shut off. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the cam crank sensor was repaired but the failure continued to occur. the check engine began to illuminate before the failure occurred and when the accelerator pedal was depressed, the contact heard a grinding noise. the failure mileage was approximately 56,000. the current mileage was approximately 63,000.
I filed a previous complaint regarding my 2006 jeep commander 5.7 l hemi regarding the engine light coming on and the hesitation you get when you are driving. i was told that the pcm sensor needed replaced and it has been but the problem is still there. we have had the o2 sensor replaced twice, the gas filter replaced, transmission fluid and filter changed, my jeep has been in the shop many times for this same problem and they cannot duplicate the problem on some visits. this is a huge safety concern if my jeep were to stall from hesitation this could cause a deadly accident. i have no idea where to go from here but i will keep on going until i get someone to listen and correct this problem or take these vehicles off the road. *kb
I have a 2006 jeep commander that has stalled 4-5 while driving in normal traffic conditions both at normal speeds as well as when approaching a stop. i have to shift the car to neutral t restart or stop and restart the vehicle. this presents a very dangerous situation as my wife and child drive/ride in the vehicle daily. we have to take the vehicle to two different dealers on three different occasions and spent hundreds of dollars to fix the issue but the problem persists. this is a serious safety that should be addressed. *tr
