2006 jeep commander stalled on freeway three times within 30 minutes. in rush hour traffic the commander stalled twice while i was standing still and once at about 30 mph. in the last instance i was next to a 18 wheeler changing lanes and this was a dangerous situation. *ak

Typically when idling at a light or stop sign the engine will die upon attempting to accelerate. 7 separate incidents the engines died once while decelerating at about 45 mph. almost have been hit by car behind two different times when this happened. have taken the car to the dealer 3 different times and got the same answer - unable to duplicate. the car has been a safety hazard since purchasing new in december 2006. the last occurrence was listed below as the incident date. *ak

My 2006 jeep commander v-8 4.7l, stalled 4 times. it stalled quickly with no warning, the worst being on the highway last month. the engine cut out, i had to put in neutral or p ark to start the car again. very scary. i called the jeep dealer and told them of the problem, the asked if a check engine light was on i told them no. they said nothing could be done, keep driving it. also, had a problem that the service 4x4 light and esp light came on for no reason when turn ing the car off then back on it sometimes going away. will usually not happen for more than a few minutes, not enough time to get to the dealer to solve the problem. *ak

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. while driving at any speed, the vehicle stalled sporadically without warning and caused a crash. the contact took her vehicle to the dealer on several occasions, but they could not duplicate the failure. on one occasion, the engine light illuminated, but the dealer could not provide an explanation. when the vehicle stalls, it usually restarts after a brief waiting period; however, it failed to restart after the crash. the manufacturer would not provide any assistance. a police report was filed and the contact has a copy. the failure mileage was 700 and current mileage was 30,201.

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. while attempting to accelerate from a stop at 5 mph, the vehicle completely shut off. the vehicle remained off for approximately twenty seconds. the contact shifted the vehicle in park, turned the key in the off position, and then restarted the vehicle. approximately two hours later, the failure recurred. once again, she shifted the vehicle in park, turned the key in the off position, and restarted the vehicle. the dealer was unable to diagnose the cause of failure. the # of cylinders was unknown. the current and failure mileages were 10,600.

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. on may 22, 2007, while driving 70 mph, the engine failed. the failure occurred several times previously. all of the lights on the instrument panel illuminated after the engine failed. the contact stated that the vehicle restarted immediately after each failure. that same day, anti-freeze began spraying out of the vehicle's grill. the dealer stated that a rock created a hole in the radiator, but could not show proof of this to the contact. the engine size was unknown. the current mileage is 24,200 and failure mileage was 24,000.

We purchased a 2006 jeep commander in april 2007. since we purchased this vehicle, it has stalled on 12 separate, random occasions. i have documented the stalls which have occurred while in reverse, driving less than 10mph, and at higher speeds on the highway. when the car shuts down while on, i have to pull over (with no lights or power steering) and put the car into park to restart the car. it always starts up again with no problems. i have also noted that it occurs in both cold and warm temperatures. i have had the car in jeep's service depts on three occasions. on the first two visits, they said they could not find anything wrong with the vehicle. on the third visit, they admitted that others had complained of the same problems and they replaced the ignition switch to see if that corrects the problem. i have talked to other commander owners who also have had this same major issue with their vehicle. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. while driving 65 mph, the instrument panel lights illuminated, the air conditioner shut off, and there was a loss of power steering. the contact also stated that the vehicle would not accelerate when the accelerator pedal was depressed. the dealer stated that the fuel injector, gas tank, and check valve needed to be replaced. the replacement was made. approximately a week later, the failure recurred while driving 25 mph. the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. the vin and engine size were unknown. the current mileage is 20,200 and failure mileage was 19,000.

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. while driving 30 mph, the vehicle stalled. while driving 70 mph, the vehicle shut down. the dealer was unable to diagnose the cause of failure, but advised the contact to drive the vehicle and, when it shuts down or stalls, have the vehicle towed to them. the manufacturer advised the contact to take it back to the dealer and request a rental until the failure is corrected. the current mileage is 22,000 and the failure mileage was unknown.

I have a 2006 jeep commander sport, 4.7l 4x4 purchased in february '06. this morning was the third time that the vehicle stalled for no apparent reason, causing complete loss of power steering & power brakes. the vehicle was being driven slowly through the neighborhood, approaching stop signs or turns, during all 3 incidents. all 3 times i put the vehicle in neutral and immediately it restarted. *ak

Notice temp gauge in vehicle rising. veh began to overheat. lost engine coolant. happens when driven vehicle for a period of 20 mins or more. it's consequences had to get vehicle tow to dealer and to home , took vehicle to dealer five times and yet problems still exists. they have done everything from add coolant to take engine part, vehicle stayed at dealer at one point for 15 days. and same problems. *tr

2006 4.7l jeep commander stalled while in traffic. had to pull over to restart. *tr

I own a 2006 jeep commander and the vehicle has stalled on numerous occasions while slowing to a stop. the stalling started around 4,000 miles. there are currently 9,000 miles on the vehicle. i have taken the vehicle to the twice in the past month and they are unable to duplicate the problem. on 4/24/07 they updated the pcm but the issue still exists. the vehicle last stalled on 5/1/07 while slowing to stop at a stop sign. *tr

Car stalls frequently and has been doing so for months. dealer hasn't fixed it. car has been in to dealer over five times for this problem alone. *tr

I just read an article in newspaper about the jeep commander's stalling problem. this has happened to me, but luckily, not at a high speed on the highway. the commander has only stalled once on me, actually, within the last week, while driving, but many times it seriously hesitates when i start to accelerate. questions to dealer said maybe it was poor gas, or a vapor lock (about the stalling)? i never had it documented with them about the stall, now after reading this article, i am concerned. the stall happened within the last week, so it has not been back to dealer. it started right up after i coasted to side of road, and placed in park. have there been any complaints on the windshield angle, i have gone through three from rocks!!! glass very straight up! i do like the truck though. purchase date approximate. i do like dealer, and have not addressed this problem to them (stall), because it only happened once, and i was unaware of current problem being looked into. i just wanted you to report mine in with your statistics. *tr

Jeep commander stalling! while driving at low speeds i have experienced several stall outs. i have taken it back in for service several times for this problem with no resolution (the latest being an updating the flash). these stall out are unpredictable which make them that much more dangerous. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep comander. while driving 25 mph the engine stalled and he lost power steering control. the contact was able to restart the vehicle. the mechanic stated that he was familiar with this failure. the mileage was 15,000 at the time of purchase. the failure mileage was 15550, and the current mileage was 15900.*ak

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. while driving 40 mph on 04/17/2007 the engine failed; however, the contact was able to restart it. the engine also failed while he was sitting at a traffic light. the vehicle stalled 5 times within a 3 mile radius. the vehicle was towed and the jeep dealer stated that the failure was a software problem. the current and failure mileage were 6000. the dealer information is unavailable at this time.

I bought this jeep commander in march 23, 2006. the first time that the vehicle stalls while driving at 65 mph on the freeway was four months after i bought it. the power went off as if the ignition is turned off and the steering wheel hardened which made it impossible to turn to the shoulder lane. i ignored this problem because it never came back until april 5-10, 2007. i brought the commander to a dealer in the area and have them check the problem. they can not find the problem or duplicate it to fix it. they told me there were no problem. i'm scared out of my wits driving this jeep, not knowing when it stalls again. a few days later i brought it back to the dealer for it stalls on me again while driving 50 mph in the freeway. after a week of researching and diagnostics, they told me they might have fixed the problem by updating the final drive module. today, may 3, 2007, while driving 20 mph, the commander stalls again. all the light signs flick on and off as i drive. i have two children, 2 and 10 years old and i'm so scared that other cars will hit us. *tr

While driving my 2006 jeep commander (5.7l hemi engine) at approximately 60 mph, the engine stalled, forcing me to pull over to the side of the road. once stopped, the vehicle did restart, but after four days of diagnosing the problem, the dealership is unable to identify the source of the problem. *tr

While driving in speeds ranging from 5 mph to 20 mph the jeep commander has stalled. the stalling happened about 2 - 3 time per month in traffic and stop lights. the dealership said they were not familiar with this problem, and they would not be able to assist me unless they could replicate the problem. they have not been able to fix the problem so far. *ak

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. the contact stated that the vehicle stalls at different speeds and when idling. she took the vehicle to the dealer approximately three times, but they were unable to duplicate the failure. the current mileage was 16,000 and failure mileage was 12,000.

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. while driving 30 mph, the vehicle shut off after the engine light illuminated. approximately one minute later, the contact was able to restart the vehicle. however, the vehicle failed to accelerate properly. the dealer inspected the vehicle, but was unable to diagnose the cause of failure. the current mileage is 10,000 and failure mileage was 8,000.

1) 2006 jeep commander began stalling just weeks after purchasing it. the vehicle has stalled about 10 times in 12 months. 2) the vehicle completely stalls while driving (usually while in the process of slowing down), or when coming to stop or when beginning to go. this has happened in parking lots, intersections, as well as driving on busy roads. luckily the cars behind put on their brakes before rear-ending my car. however, the result could easily be an accident - which i am trying to prevent. 3) brought the vehicle two times to the dealership where it was purchased. i was told that while they and chrysler are aware, they have not come up with a fix for the problem because they do not know what is causing it. i also called chrysler's customer service number and was told that i had to get a second opinion but there was nothing else they could do because the problem has not been diagnosed. *jb

My 2006 jeep commander (4.7 liter) constantly stalls and hesitates and the dealer keeps telling me they can't find anything wrong but there are hundreds of complaints online about the same thing and i want to know why this has not been recalled. also the third row seat belts seem to have a problem. *jb

On a number of occasions while driving my 2006 jeep commander limited's engine has shut off. the power steering goes out, the engine cuts off and you are just sitting there. this is incredibly dangerous as there is always traffic and you don't have the steering to easily move your car to a safe place. this needs to be addressed immediately by chrysler. *jb

In the 5 years i have owned the 2006 jeep commander it has stalled while driving, stalled while parked. this happens at no set frequency. sometimes it happens daily, other times it will go for months and not happen. the dash lights repeatedly flash off and on. some dash lights don't work at all for months then like magic work fine for months. the vehicle sputters when accelerating all the time and at different speeds. if i am crossing or turining i need to make sure i have like 2 miles between me and oncoming traffic in case it decides to not work that time and i get stuck in the intersection. the cruise control no longer works. luckily the computer went out that controls the cruise so i can't use it. the cruise used to just speed up and slow down on its own. i will be driving along and all of a sudden without notice the car will floor itself and not stop until i put the car in neutral. regardless of what temperature i have the heater set to there is constantly extremely hot air blowing on my feet. i can not drive without shoes on or the hot air literally burns my feet. overall- there are some serious electrical and mechanical issues with the jeep commander. i googled jeep commander and there are hundreds (i am sure thousands) of similar complaints. *js

At approx 29k my 2006 jeep commander began acting like it was going to stall out while the engine idled whether in park or drive. it also would act like it was going to stall if i were turning and hit a curb or bump. examples of when this happened: 1. at night, my engine was running, the car was in drive with my foot on the brake and my door was open; the interior lights began to dim and the engine almost cut off. 2. i was turning right from one road to another and hit the curb and the engine almost stalled. 3. i was stopped at an intersection waiting to turn right onto a road when the engine almost stalled. 3. i was parked with the engine running idle at a gas station looking for my atm card when the engine almost stalled. these instances seem to happen every couple of weeks. the jeep has been to 2 different dealers three different times for this and they told me that they can't replicate the problem and that my alternator is working at the correct amps. in addition, i have had transmission leaks and my family was left stranded 6 hours away due to a transmission problem that one dealer said was the mistake of another when they fixed my transmission leak. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. while driving 5-30 mph, the vehicle shut off without warning. the failure has occurred eleven times. the dealer inspected the vehicle on four occasions, but was unable to duplicate the failure. the first failure mileage was 6,500 and current mileage was 15,545. updated 01/09/08. *lj the consumer stated vehicle has stalled a few more times, dealer attempted to fix but to no avail. updated 12/12/07 *tr

2006 4.7 v8 jeep commander has had multiple problems, the most severe being 3 (out of 7) inoperable seatbelts and sporadic stalling of the vehicle. the first 8 - 10 times the vehicle stalled (went dead), i was at a stopped position attempting to accelerate. the most recent incident happened as i was driving in traffic. i lost all power steering and brakes when the vehicle died. i was going up a slight incline which assisted me in stopping and i put the vehicle in neutral and restarted. i have refused to drive the vehicle since that time out of safety concerns for my children and for others on the road. the dealership has attempted to correct the problem on 4 occasions - nothing has worked. the chrysler corporation refuses to buy-back the vehicle because the dealership has not duplicated the problem in the shop. i have witnesses to the occurrences and have documented each time it has happened. *jb

2007 jeep commander, v8 engine.....this vehicle has stalled numerous times since i purchased new 02/2006. it started about 3 months after purchase and is continuing to stall to the point that i will not allow my teenager daughter to drive the vehicle. my dealership (i have purchased 6 new chrysler vehicles over past 16 years) says they have no idea how to fix, that i will have to wait on chrysler to recall if there is a problem. someone is going to get killed in this vehicle, is that what it takes to get someone to realize there is a problem? they suggested that i called and complain to you as well as chrysler.....*nm

I have a 2006 jeep commander, i have had this vehicle since november 2005. i have taken this vehicle to the dealer on different occasion due to my car stalling. it isn't until my steering wheel locks and i can't push the gas peddle that i realize i have no power. my dash lights don't come on, my radio doesn't go off. i just stall... the dealer says " the computer doesn't register the cut off", and they can't find the problem. so i have this car that i never know when it will die....i was going to a valentine party and on my way there my car cut off twice within a minute and half and neither showed up on the my vehicles computer, the person that was behind me at the time got a little road rage and sped around me with the finger. i have an 8 year old daughter and i would like to have my case investigated. as i submit this my car is in the shop now. *nm

My 2006 jeep commander has stalled out numerous times. the service department at the dealership i purchased it from and the jeepcorp. have no answer nor a fix for the problem. i am afraid that this vehicle is unsafe t drive. one day i was pulling off a parking lot and tried to stop to keep from hitting a vehicle and still ened up hitting the persons fender. not sure if my vehicle stalled at that time or not because it all happened so fast.

When drive my 2006 jeep commander the engine has stalled while i was driving. *jb

*while driving down a level highway at about 70 mph, while using cruise, the rpms jumped drastically as if going into overdrive. although it shifted for whatever reason, as i stated it was flat ground, there was no pick up speed. **however, at other times i have had the 2006 jeep commander accelerate for no reason. i was not pushing on the gas and it has happened while in cruise. ***i have also experienced sputtering mostly at about 40 mph but it has happened at speeds around 70 mph on the highway. thankfully traffic has been clear enough to regain proper control. no pattern. i took it to the dealer after they told me to look for a pattern and there wasn't one. there were no error codes and the "situation could not be duplicated". not real pleased. i am listing each type of failure separately on this site. i am also simply using a basic date because it has happened multiple times. when i picked up the jeep i was told it's a big motor and people just aren't used to driving them. my husband was raised on a farm, so he knows "big motors". not acceptable. it feels very unsafe. *jb

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. while driving various speeds, the vehicle would jerk and all the instrumental panel lights would flicker. the failures have occurred ever since the vehicle was purchased. the vehicle was taken to a dealer and they continued to state that the engine and transmission failed. the vehicle was repaired five or six times under warranty within the past two years. recently, the vehicle would not restart after it was turned off. the failure mileage was 26,000 and current mileage was 80,000. updated 062909 *bf the dealer discovered the front pump and torque converter were damaged. the number 6 cylinder misfired and the coil was cracked which was allowing water to get into the plugs. updated 07/02/09.*jb

Tl* - the contact called regarding a 2006 jeep commander, while driving 35 mph the vehicle lost power without any warnings. the vehicle restarted easily. the contact took the vehicle to daimlerchrysler dealer on 1/31/07 for a diagnosis. this will be the third stalling failure. the road conditions were wet once and dry on two occasions. the contact called daimler chrysler dealer when the vehicle stalled before, and was told it may have been bad gasoline. during the second incident the power steering and power brakes failed.*ak updated 03/13/07. *jb

Engine stalled in slow speed turn in middle of turn lane. *jb

I own a jeep commander with a 3.7 v6 engine 2006 4x4. i have had issues with stalling and idling. at times the car sputters and hesitates. i have taken it to the dealer on a couple of times and they cannot fix the problem. *jb

We purchased a jeep commander 4x4 4.7l 10/06. we love the car, but have experienced the stalling problem 5 times so far- 3 times while the vehicle was slowing down to turn and 2 times while the vehicle was in motion on a highway. i bring it to a dealer each time it happens and i am told the diagnostic recording device and it doesn't tell them anything. the dealer ship says "they can replicate the problem" the 5 time it happened i googled "jeep commander stalling" and found that many others have this same problem. i called chrysler to complain and got no response. one of the posts on carspace.com suggested complaining to you. jb

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. while making right and left turns at 39 mph, the vehicle stalls intermittently. the vehicle will be taken to the dealer for a diagnosis. the vin was unknown. the current mileage was 18,000 and failure mileage was 5,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. the contact stated while driving highway speeds, or in a parking lot the vehicle would stall on an intermittent basis without warning. the vehicle was restarted within a few minutes. the vehicle was inspected by a dealer who advised her that they were unable to diagnose the failure or duplicate it. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and offered no assistance. the failure mileage was approximately 6,000.

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. while driving 5 mph, the vehicle shut off without warning. the contact was able to restart the vehicle immediately. the dealer did not inspect the vehicle. approximately six months later, while attempting to accelerate, the vehicle shut off without warning. the vehicle was able to be restarted. the dealer has not inspected the vehicle. the contact filed a complaint with the manufacturer. the current mileage is 20,000 and failure mileage was 5,000.

On several occasions, my 2006 jeep commander has completely shutdown when i am driving at very low speeds in traffic or when i come to stop at a light. the vehicle starts immediately again once it is put back into neutral or park but it happens too often and i believe it is hazardous. i took the vehicle to my local dealer for an engine diagnosis on 27dec06 and there is still not a code in the system for repair of this problem but i see many complaints about the same problem by other owners. what is the status of this problem? *nm

I bought a 2006 jeep commander with a 5.7l hemi in dec. of 2006. i now have roughly 3000 miles on it and it's stalls daily. sometimes two-times a day. whether i am on a highway exit ramp, at a stop light or slowing down this vehicle randomly shuts off. it's seems to only happen when slowing down and right after i come to a complete stop. this problem began about a week and a half after i bought the vehicle. i have noticed lot's of reports online about this same problem. i want this problem fixed or i want a different vehicle. i have almost been in 7 major crashes involving busy intersections cause of this stall problem. my wife refuses to ride in the vehicle and i hate driving it now. *jb

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. while driving at any speed the vehicle shuts off without warning. the warning indicator lights illuminated intermittently once the vehicle i shut off. the contactwas able to restart the vehicle immediately after the failure occurred. the dealer was unable to duplicate and diagnose the cause of failure. the contact stated that this failure has been ongoing since the vehicle was purchased. the current and failure mileages were 24,000.*ak
