I own a jeep commander 2006 5.7 liter engine. i have contacted chrysler about a stalling problem and they tell me that it does not register in the computer and they have no idea what is wrong. this truck stalls about 4 times a week in the middle of traffic. being that i have a toddler and a baby i am not safe in this vehicle and no one seems to care. it will just completely turn off and i lose all steering. please help!! *tr
Vehicle continued stalling while is driven a low rpm. more the 25 times. vehicle was bought with 15, 200 miles. vehicle has now 52, 300. everytime is taken to service the problem was mention to the dealer technician but they can't find the problem. nov 20, 2007 i scratched the left rear fender of the vehicle with a tree while backing up. the vehicle lost power vehicle rolled back and stopped. resting on the side of the tree. pictures were taken of the damages on the vehicle . dealers technician states no problem with the vehicle. second problem backup system. assists the driver to move the vehicle safely, one sensor failed from the bumper mount. two months dealer has not repair the vehicle yet. need to replaced the entire bumper to repaired one sensor. *tr
On at least ten different occasions the 2006 jeep commander has stalled at speeds ranging from 15 to 70 miles per hour. power is shut off completely leading to the loss of all functionality. if the steering wheel is turned slightly, the wheel locks, leaving the vehicle in a situation where it has to coast to a stop. this is a terrifying experience with small children in the vehicle. accidents have nearly occurred as a result of this happening. there have been seven occasions when this problem has been reported to the local dealer with nothing accomplished to correct the problem. the dealer blames the operators of the vehicle for hitting the key with their knee. this is not the cause of the problem as it occurs when the driver's knee is nowhere near the key. the service department apparently can not duplicate this problem when they service the vehicle for some reason though it is a very real issue for my family. *tr
Soon after i purchase my 2006 jeep commander sport 4x4 (5 speed)... i began to do some research on this vehicle (i should have done this prior to the purchase)... i was going through this complaint database and i was alarmed to read that this vehicle has a history of stalling. well, it finally happened to me on 11/4/2007 (with 11,600 exact mileage) driving home from shopping with my family. the commander stalled out on during the highway merged. luckily, i was in the far right lane to jump off the highway immediately. the power loss that i experience was only with ability to move the vehicle. my dashboards lights, headlights, radio; breaks were fully operational (thankfully). no accidents, no injuries except my children are now afraid of being inside of the commander. to be honest, so am i. there have been numerous reports on what is occurring?.. everything from downloading an upgraded to debris in the hose. either way, chrysler needs to address this immediately; the potential of death is very realistic. *tr
While driving my jeep commander shuts off without warning. the jeep becomes inoperable, no power steering or brakes. it has happened at least a half dozen times. i initially took it back to the dealer, but they said they could not find the problem. it is very dangerous! *tr
I own a jeep commander with a 3.7 v6 engine 2006 4x4. i have had issues with stalling and idling. i have taken it to the dealer on a couple of times and they cannot fix the problem. the stalling happened about 1 - 2 time per week in traffic and stop lights. the current mileage is 12,000 and failure mileage was 7,000.this issue was reported to dcx on 10/30/07 (case no. 103007).
My 2006 jeep commander stalls on me why driving. it has been doing this for 8 months now. nothing has been done about this problem. the car will shut down on you when driving. prompting you to have to bring the car to a complete stop to restart. i have been dealing for months on this issue and nothing has been done. i am i n a rental car 90% of the time. chrysler needs to get off their ass and doing something before someone is seriously hurt. i am intersted and fileing a class action suit against them. if you are intersted and your jeep is stalling too. please contact me. *tr

While driving vehicle the engine shuts off and the resulted power failure makes it dangerous to control the vehicle at highway speeds. this has happened three times and the dealers service department could not find a problem or reason for this. *tr
My husband and i financed a used 2006 jeep commander while he was home on 2 weeks of leave from and 18 month tour in afghanistan. about a week after we took the car home it stalled out for the first time. a week after that it did it again and we immediately pulled off the road and took it to the closest dealer which was luckily less than 2 miles down the road. he hooked it up to diagnostics and told us something about the computer recording a freak reading of barometric pressure which is what made the car shut off and that it shouldn't happen again. after my husband returned to afghanistan to fight terrorism for the us army i was driving home after dark from out of town and my headlights started to flicker...the frequency of this kept increasing and each time this happened the interior lights would also flicker and it became increasingly difficult to have the lights come back on. luckily i got home before they quit working completely. today, i was at the end of a drive to visit family and the car stalled for the third time in less than a month! i lost brakes, steering, lights, ac, and radio. traffic was heavy and i narrowly avoided an accident!!!! after about a minute, i was able to pop the car into neutral and get it started again. thank god my two children were not in the car! i got to my relatives house and began researching this problem and found numerous complaints on the internet, something we were not made aware of when buying the vehicle. the fact that this has happened to hundreds of other families makes me livid. my husband is getting shot at everyday for his country and its okay for an american manufacturer to sell faulty vehicles to people?!?!?! *jb
I bought the car used and within the first two weeks it stalled in a parking lot. then it jerks when i leave my house in the morning all the way down the hill. they said it needed a couple parts and it didn't resolve that issue. then the car stalled while driving twice more with my child in the car once i could barely get off the road. then it just tried to stop while i was driving and i had to rev the engine unbelievably to get it to the side of the road. i brought it to two dealers who couldn't find the problem or duplicate it. they put in a new starter anyway. they told me to not hit the ignition with my knee. then the car stalled again this afternoon driving about 10 miles per hour. so it doesn't matter what the speed is. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. the vehicle stalls unexpectedly while driving 15 mph and below. the vehicle completely loses power and must be shifted into park and restarted in order for the engine to work properly. the contact has taken the vehicle to the dealer and they conducted several tests, but were unable to duplicate the failure. the failure mileage was 33,500 and current mileage was 33,900. updated 01-14-08. *kb updated 12/12/07. *jb
Lost power which included steering and lighting systems (interior and headlamps). *tr
Vehicle stalled without warning. engine completely shutdown. 2nd occurrence. *tr
I brought my jeep into be looked at because it stalled on me when i was driving and lost power. luckily i am okay and it restart right away. dealer ship looked at it and found "nothing" wrong with it. i am scared to drive it especially when i have to drive on the interstate to work. i wish they would do something about this. its so ridiculous. *tr
My husband and i are leasing a 2006 jeep commander since nov 2005. i have been involved in 3 separate traffic accidents on may 31 2006, august 8 2006 and september 20 2007. the engine stalled during low speed turns on both august 8 2006 and september 20 2007. i had just left a stop sign on may 31 2006 when my engine stalled in the intersection, resulting in a crash. i was cited for failure to yield on may 31 2006. i wasn't cited on august 8 2006 or september 20 2007, although the police report from the september 20 2007 accident describes a "failure to yield." i have also had ongoing tire pressure issues as well as intermittent brake failure issues. prior to may 31 2006 i had never been involved in a traffic accident nor had i received any traffic citations. i am 48 years old. my vehicle was repaired twice after the first 2 accidents, but i am awaiting contact from the other party's auto insurer before proceeding with the repairs following yesterday's accident. i've brought the 2006 jeep commander in to bud mulcahy's jeep on several occasions. that dealership is now closed. *tr
Jeep commander 2006. engine stalls while driving. loss of power. *jb
Twice while pulling into parking spaces, once while pulling out of a drive-through into the main road, and once while coming to a stop sign, my 2006 jeep commander has stalled, losing brakes and steering. i have to restart the car using the key. no indicator light tells me what happened or that there is anything wrong. the first time it took into the dealer, they said that my computerized fuel mix ratio was way off. they said it should be at 0 and that mine was at 6.something. they reset it to 1.5, the lowest they could get it to. they felt that this was the problem causing the stall. i got the car back and it did not stall for two months but then stalled again. i took it back to the dealer and they stated that they could not find any computerized indicator to tell them why this was happening and could not make it happen while it was at the shop. the shop manager said that he even looked on the internet to see if there were any other cases and could find none. hesaid that there was nothing from daimler/chrysler about it either. when i went to the ntsba web site, i found that there was an investigation into this since feb 2007 and that daimler/chrysler responded that they are now doing their own investigation. if this is the case, why would the dealership not know anything about it. i got the car back and within two weeks it stalled again at the stop sign. this last incident was on sept 13, 2007. i called the dealer and they do not have a solution. *tr
Since the beginning of ownership, this car has stalled many times (as well as other various and odd electrical problems.) many times i can turn the car off and on and it will restart. this does happen in parking lots and highway speeds as well. i have also lost power steering and brakes when in parking lots at a very slow acceleration speed. i have also had air bag warning lights go on and stay on then randomly shut off. the dealer has tried to help resolve but is limited by chrysler's ability to recognize that there is a problem. if there is no code in the cars computer, there is no problem and can't be duplicated. if the problem can't be duplicated, there is no repair. but it keeps happening over and over. i have filed a complaint with chrysler with no resolve. the dealership has had my car and drove it for 3 weeks to try to duplicate the problem. since it is so random and they just didn't get enough time/miles in, the problem didn't happen. it stalled again about 3 weeks after that pulling out of my driveway. there has been no repair, because chrysler says there is no problem. i have been in the middle of an intersection with a 15 year old on a permit driving with oncoming traffic. i have had this car since march 2006 and this has been occurring many times repeatedly since then. not all have been documented and because it occasionally happens on weekends or holidays, i have no ability to get it in to a dealership. in order for them to be able to read a code, i would have to leave the car in a stalled position wherever it occurred and have it towed directly to the dealer. this is highly impractical and unsafe. especially scary at high speeds on the highway. i do not want to be a casualty of chrysler's failure to recognize that there are thousands of these vehicles out there doing this exact same thing. do a "google" search see the #'s! something needs to be done!!! *jb
My 2006 jeep commander continually stalls, threatening the lives of whoever is in the car. there is no warning. suddenly there will be a complete loss of control over the vehicle. no warning lights, no bells, sounds, whistles...nothing! the only way to remedy is to turn vehicle off and restart. this turns in to a life threatening incident when the traffic behind you is unaware that you are in fact stalled. the dealership has no updates or complaints of this problem (ya, right) and drives it around the block...with no incidences occurring. if they think it's going to happen while they're driving the vehicle, they're wrong. i 'm risking my families lives every time we get in the car. it's the most expensive piece of junk i've ever owned! visibility out the rear window when the 3rd row seats are up is just about zero. this is extremely dangerous. you can't see cars, kids, or your neighbors house when you're trying to see what's behind you. driver's side locks on it's own. luckily the passenger doors remain unlocked, so i haven't locked myself out...yet. *jb
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. while driving approximately 35mph and engaging the brake pedal intermittently, the engine stalled. the power steering and power brakes also failed and the radio continued to play. the vehicle has been at the dealer for 28 days to diagnose the failure. there were no warning lights illuminated during or after the vehicle stalled. the vehicle restarts immediately. speed was not a factor when the vehicle stalled. the current and failure mileage was 22,000.
Jeep commander limited 2006 stalled while driving at a speed of 25mph. car lost power steering and brakes. the car experienced a complete electrical failure and just died. events leading up to the failure include the car rumbling to the point where it feels as if would stall but did not. it finally did completely stall as noted in the opening sentences. the dealership where the car was purchased, stated they cannot pin point the exact cause but per chrysler a possible solution was to clean and reseal the main wiring harness to the power distribution center. after that they have been attempting phone calls to chrysler to troubleshoot the problem. we were told chrysler can't guarantee the problem will be found. now we are left with a car that is unsafe to drive as it may stall out while driving without warning. *tr
We own a jeep commander 2006, we have had problems with the engine shutting off. it has happen while turning, while taking an off ramp, on the highway. i have refused to allow anyone to drive the commander considering i have 3 children and my wife. the upsetting part is that the dealership says they can't do anything because the computer says their is no problem. the last incident was on sept. 04 2007. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. while driving 40 mph, the engine lost power, however, the vehicle continued to run at a decreased speed. he placed the vehicle into neutral, restarted the vehicle, and then drove to the dealer. the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. the vin, engine size, and number of cylinders were unknown. the current and failure mileages were 20,400.
My 2006 jeep commander v8 has stalled 4 times since buying it in april of 2007. the first time was when i was backing up in reverse in my driveway. the second time a few months later, after backing up, put the jeep in drive and it stalled. the third time was in august, i had backed up in my parking lot at work put the jeep in drive and was going about 15 mph and the jeep stalled. the last time was august 28, 2007, i was making a left hand turn into mcdonald's with my 8 month old, 6+7 year old children as well as being 5 months pregnant, the jeep stalled, i lost my brakes and power steering with oncoming traffic heading towards me. it took i my strength to turn the wheel tp get out of the road. i have had the jeep to the dealership to have this looked at 3 times. the last in august before the 4th episode. they had my jeep for 4 days and could not find anything wrong with it. i have called jeep and made a complaint. their response was to take it back to the dealership. i am very frustrated and feel unsafe with my children in this vehicle and no one seems to care or want to help. after looking at this list of complaints on this website on 2006 jeep commanders stalling, something needs to be done. *jb
My 2006 jeep commander has stalled on my twice now while driving down the road. didn't realize it had stalled until i tried to give gas or use the brake. hard to maneuver off to side of road due to power steering going out after the stall. very dangerous! *tr
Experienced engine stall and loss of power to instrument panel momentarily while approaching residential 30 mph speed. had just pulled out of my driveway and was accelerating when it happened. i noticed the stall and looked at the instrument panel, which appeared to be inoperative. then it 'came back to life' and i tried to accelerate. the engine responded and i kept driving with no other issues. *tr
Incident of engine stall while driving in model year (my) 2006 through 2007 jeep commander vehicles (subject vehicles). engine stall with a simultaneous loss of some or all lighting systems, including headlamps. the engine stall happened several times. *tr
My 2006 jeep commander occasionally "hesitates" when i accelerate. thus far it has not caused an accident, but chances are good that it might happen one day soon. this hesitation often happens when i am turning at an intersection and i fear that it may happen when i am unable to evade an oncoming car. *jb
I own a jeep commander and it has died on me for now reason now more than 7 times. i was at a stop light, sometimes on the freeway the car just stops. i step on the gas and the car doesn't move the engine shuts off and the steering wheel hardens and doesn't steer. i took it into the jeep dealer where i leased it from and they found nothing wrong with it. they told me that there are other complaints with other commander owners but they have no fix to it. they even told me that when they find what's wrong with someone else's commander they would call me so i guess they still don't know what's wrong this had been happening now a lot lately. i am going to take it back again to the dealer ship and see what they say. the passenger air bag light comes on also every now and then it comes on and stays on for like 5 to 10 minutes then goes off. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. while driving 10 mph, the vehicle stalled under normal driving conditions. there were no warning indicator lights present. the vehicle was able to be restarted after each failure. the dealer kept the vehicle for a week, but was unable to duplicate the failure. the vehicle has not been repaired. the current mileage was 45,000 and failure mileage was 43,000.
Vehicle stalled in traffic - was able to move out of traffic and avoid crash - took suv to dealer and they are unable to reproduce or detect problem (2006 jeep commander 4.7 liter engine). *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. while driving 15 mph or greater, the vehicle stalled without warning, which resulted in a total loss of power. the contact stated that the vehicle would restart on its own within a few seconds. the dealer stated that the sensors failed (sensor type unknown). the contact was uncertain if the sensors were replaced. approximately two weeks later, the failure recurred. the dealer was unable to diagnose the failure. as of november 8, 2007, the dealer had not completed the inspection. there is a defect investigation open (nhtsa action number ea07007) for the engine and engine cooling. the failure mileage was 35,000 and current mileage was 38,000.
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. the contact stated that the vehicle idles roughly and the engine revs intermittently. a few months ago, the service engine soon light illuminated for a while and then dimmed. during that time, the vehicle began to stall while driving 10 mph. the vehicle would lose all power, including the power steering. she has taken the vehicle to the dealer for approximately a year, but they have been unable to determine the cause of failure. the current mileage was 20,000 and failure mileage was 6,000.
Vehicle starts to stall while making low speed turns. as soon as the turn is complete, the vehicle regains acceleration. *jb
Upon turning left or right from a stop or near stop the engine simply cut off. *tr
On three occasions, my 2006 jeep commander has stalled while driving, each time while turning left. on one occasion, i lost complete control of steering, braking and accelerating; thankfully i was able to avoid the other vehicles in my vicinity. the other two times i was able to restart the vehicle while driving., but was almost rear-ended both times due to drastic deceleration. i will be taking my car in for service; however i?m not confident that they'll find anything. from what i've read, it is a common problem that is difficult to replicate. i have 3 young children and now fear for our lives each day. i hope that jeep will recognize this growing problem and recall the vehicle before somebody gets killed. if i had the means to buy a new car, i would in a second. i no longer feel safe in this car. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. while driving 30 mph, the vehicle stalled. the instrument panel lights and the air conditioner remained on for a few seconds then shut off. the road conditions were clear. the dealer replaced the starter. the contact has not driven the vehicle since the replacement. the failure mileage was 20,000 and the current mileage was 21,000.

While driving, vehicle has a complete blackout - it completely shuts down, engine stops running, everything dies! this has happened when driving on a major highway and when on a local road. dealer can not find problem. vehicle has been at dealer in excess of 30 days without resolution. dealer lent us a loaner - same model - and the same problem occurred. when reported to chrysler corporate, they did nothing and were not interested in helping address the problem. we feel this problem is serious enough to cause a major accident, death and or injury. *tr
I have a 2006 jeep commander. i was driving my 7 year old son to camp. i was driving about 45 mph on a 2 lane road. suddenly and without any warning the engine, as well as all electrical items completely shut off. i also lost all assist functions. when i was applying the brakes i got the noise that usually you hear when the abs system has taken control. after pulling to the side of the road i restarted the car and the engine warning light came on. after dropping my son off i attempted to restart the car. i had no instrument panel functions (gas gauge, water temp, odometer, etc.). i will be taking the car in to the dealership on 7/5/2007 for analysis.
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. while driving 45 mph, the vehicle shut off and there was a total loss of power. the vehicle was able to be restarted. the failure has occurred on four occasions and the dealer has been unable to duplicate the failure. the current mileage was 9,800 and failure mileage was 8,000. the consumer provided the invoices for repair. the dealer stated windows are malfunctioning they only go halfway up and come right back down. updated 08/22/07 *tr
