We have classified the 679 complaints from 2015 Jeep Cherokee about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 jeep cherokee. while driving various speeds, the transmission failed and re-engaged. the check engine indicator illuminated on the instrument panel and the vehicle lunged forward. the air bag warning indicator illuminated intermittently on the instrument panel. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 16v529000 (power train); however, the part to do the repair was unavailable. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 11,000. the vin was not available.
There have been several instances of slow response from the transmission. heading south at a highway intersection where cross traffic does not stop, i waited at the stop sign until traffic was clear to the east. i pressed the accelerator and didn't get much response until traffic was close enough that i debated about not crossing and the car suddenly moved into the lanes of traffic. i was able to cross to the divider before being broadsided because traffic slowed for me. another incident involves pulling out of my driveway. i live on a major highway so i am very cautious when i pull out. as i turned right from my driveway my car didn't do more than creep along even though it had gone down the drive just fine. i got the rpm up to 6 on the gauge (7 is red) when it suddenly "caught" and took off. a car that had been a long distance back came very close to rear-ending me. on another occasion as i pulled up behind a car at a light, my car was stopping and then suddenly lurched forward before coming to a complete stop. i hadn't stopped braking or pushed the accelerator. i would have hit the car in front of me if i hadn't been leaving a fair amount of room between us. the variability and unpredictability of this car is what makes it so dangerous. it has small issues like difficulty climbing hills on occasion or jumping when it shifts during normal driving but i have changed my routes (choose stoplights to cross highways) and driving style (leave lots of room between it and other cars) to accommodate daily inconvenience.
Purchased the 2015 jeep cherokee in march. have had issues with the transmission due to the recalls. the vehicle would slow and not shift properly, it would also lurch and stall and shift very clunky. 9/21 - had the recalls taken care of and was told it would solve the issues. 9/22 - driving on the freeway in stop and go traffic and the car suddenly lurches and then stops. the service transmission, check engine and emergency brake were all flashing. i almost got rear-ended and was in a serious accident. i had to turn the car off on the freeway to "reboot" it as it was stuck in a parked position but not powered off. 9/24 - en route to get the car serviced, i was on the freeway in traffic, it lurches and stopped again, this time causing me to rear-end the vehicle in front of me.
Under acceleration from a stop (either straight line or making a right hand turn) the rpms increase before the vehicle responds. when it does, the vehicle lunges forward unpredictably. during manual shifting and braking (while in motion) the rpms shoot up to before transmission engages 4th gear when downshifting from 5th causing a momentary freewheeling scenario. during acceleration from about 10-15 mph the vehicle once again increases rpms and then lunges forward. the vehicle performs hard shifting between gears while in motion. at freeway speeds the transmission may not downshift/ respond or accelerate for 3-4 seconds. when reversing the the same lunging scenario occurs however it is less predicable as reverse gear is taller. overall performance is sporadic and unpredictable.
2015 cherokee trailhawk with 4k miles. on several occasions when accelerating from a stop the vehicle does not seem to want to go anywhere. i almost got into an accident. not a good thing when you are trying to cross traffic and your vehicle will not accelerate. i have also had very hard transmission shift when coming to a stop that will literally throw you and the vehicle forward. a lot of people say it is worse after taking the vehicle in for service so i have yet to notify the dealership of this issue. from what i can tell, they really do not know what to do. someone needs to figure this out faster then what is happening now because someone is going to get killed or get seriously hurt.
While driving 60 mph i lost power to the vehicle. i was able to safely coast to the side of the freeway. several errors popped up including service transmission, service 4wd, service parking break. after sitting on side of road i restarted car and errors cleared. this has been happening several times and taken to dealer 4 times. this is a very dangerous situation and i have been put in very dangerous situations.
In stop & go traffic vehicle repeatedly lunged forward. this is not safe. it also had a delayed response after sitting. the lunges caused me to physically move forward in the seat & slam on my brakes. i was also told when i purchased that this would subside after a few hundred miles as it was just due to sitting at the car lot. i will be taking vehicle in for servuce.
When starting from a stop car hesitates or jerks, sometimes clunks or grinds. does the same thing when trying to pass a vehicle, pulling out at a stop light does the same thing. i believe it could be the transmission as the car seems not to want to shift correctly and makes rough, jumpy grinding noises does this most of time time you drive it and has for along time.
My transmission shifts hard, doesn't shift and the engine roars and sometimes shifts up and down, trying to find the right gear. when i take it to a dealership for repair they tell me they did a software update but never fix the problem. this transmission should be recalled!
As i drove my jeep cherokee limited up my very steep driveway in the berkeley, ca. hills the transmission failed, red lights came on flashing messages and the car went into neutral and rolled backwards down hill. i almost went off a canyon rd. but i put on emergency brake and jumped out! then i had problems geting it taken back to dealer who sold it to me. now it is in a jeep dealer where they are installing anew transmission. no one at chrysler will call me back or my mother who bought me the car. they told her to file a calif. lemon law form but that u have to wait for 3 incidences to occur. my mother said she is not waiting for me to roll down the canyon and be killed in order to get our money back. this is very serious and chrysler doesn't care. the nhtsa should order a recall of this car before someone is killed.
I have the v6 automatic. the transmission has always been a little off and i have adapted my driving style to cope with the hesitant acceleration and the clunking/lurching when when accelerating and decelerating. the florida turnpike traffic has been stop and go since the schools reopened two weeks earlier. since i spend more time in stop and go traffic, the transmission number of hesitation and lurching events have skyrocketed. most recently the vehicle lurches violently forward when accelerating and slowing down at approximately 10 mph. the severity of the lurch has increased and the last even threw my head forward enough to strain my neck resulting in several days of soreness. this transmission is beyond quirky and in my opinion poses a threat to vehicle occupants as well as other vehicles directly in from of it. the vehicle is awaiting diagnostics at the dealership who advised they are waiting for a decision from corporate whether to service the transmission or replace it completely. previously the pcm/tcm were flashed in june 24th 2015 @ 3289 miles. complaint has been addressed to chrysler as well.
Four weeks after my 2015 jeep cherokee purchase and approximately 3,000 miles the service engine light came on the dashboard. in addition, the car started to run at about 4,000 rpm's on the freeway and wouldn't shift. finally, when the car comes to a stop, it turns off in order to save gas. while restarting, the car would hesitate and jump from one gear to the next unexpectedly, which was a safety concern. upon bringing it into troncalli jeep they informed me that the transmission was no good and needed to be replaced. i opted not to replace the transmission and requested a replacement vehicle or cash equivalent of $3,000 on the value my car would drop upon resell for owning a poor quality car with known and well publicized defects for both transmission and internet security.
When i start the car in the morning stationary, the car leaps forward and then the car rocks back and forth. ive complained about this before but dealer could not replicate issue since the issue usually only occurs when engine is cold. also, transmission slips and revs when in motion changing speeds using cruise control. the jeep has always done this since ive owned it.
Gears are unreasonably difficult to shift when parked on a hill. transmission slips out of gear. while on the free way at approximately 60 mph the car loses the ability to deliver power.
Check engine light began coming on 8k miles. doesn't shift properly won't accelerate properly. has been in shop for same thing 4 times in 2 months. and light has been on all of 3months but had to wait on parts and loner. bring it home only to have same issue next day. many complaints online about this issue. they keep replacing same part and never fixes problem for more than a day or two.
Purchased a brand new 2015 jeep cherokee friday august 28th. on august 30th with less than 300 miles on it my jeep cherokee's transmission seemed to fail going about 60 miles an hour on the highway the transmission abruptly slipped causing the vehicles rpms to spike near 4000 rpm. along with an abrupt loss of speed. transmission service light immediately illuminated. after exiting the highway and coming to a stop the transmission was making a horrible banging noise while trying to shift into first gear. i will be going to a dealership tomorrow to have it fixed since it is a sunday. only 300 miles on the vehicle! i'm scared to drive it.
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 jeep cherokee. the contact stated that while driving at 30 mph, the brake pedal was depressed and the vehicle accelerated without warning. the check engine warning light illuminated. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 3,400.
Bought 2015 jeep cherokee trailhawk 2/2015 brand new. started having creaking coming from sunroof area about 2 months in. dealer states no fix for it. took vehicle in for oil change at 9000 miles. dealer performed 3 updates at that time. received car back and auto start/stop light came on and went off several times. also noted hard shifting and acceleration issues at that time. took to dealer and they did "software updates." got vehicle back "fixed," drove it 3 blocks and lights came on again with same acceleration and shifting issues. straight back to dealer. ended up getting entirely new transmission at 9000 miles! picked up "fixed" vehicle again and noted severe jerking with slow stops and sluggish acceleration. back to dealer for yet another software updated. have back again now. can now feel vehicle when it is idling. feels like it has a mild shake or shudder. also having occasional problems with sluggish acceleration particularly when turning. also continue to have loud creaking from sunroof which is just getting worse. scared to drive vehicle as am afraid it simply won't accelerate one of these times. heaven forbid it is in rush hour traffic with a left turn. vehicle is not reliable, have absolutely no faith in it.
Five times, transmission had shifted into neutral at an intersection, emergency brake goes on, dashboard lights up and last time had to have it towed to dealership. jeep finally recalled it in august, but have no parts available to fix it.
Transmission shifts, very hard, missed shifts--all the time rear differential makes a very high pitch noise, all the time. sensor gives false reading on temp
The transmission sifts erratically, from first to second & second to third gears. its sluggish grinding has caused near rear end collisions from drivers following the vehicle, as it speeds up & slows unpredictably. i have taken this vehicle to the dealership 5 times during the first 11 months of ownership. the 1st time was july 2015. 3 times technicians have installed updates (or "fixes") to the transmission; 2 times the technicians have claimed an inability to identify the problem. when the vehicle shifts into park the brakes do not hold, causing it to lunge forward. when driving in "stop and go" traffic conditions, upon applying brakes the vehicle lunges forward. this problem has resulted in near accidents due to the inability for the driver to control brake activity. the vehicle was seen in 8/15; he was unable to identify the problem. the vehicle continues to exhibit these problems.. the vehicle continues to exhibit these problems after multiple attempts to address them. the vehicle has 5,100 miles on it. it continues to exhibit these problems after multiple attempts to address them. i have been to the dealership 7 times to address repeated problems, causing a loss of time to employment. repeated flawed attempts to address problems have diminished its trade in value. attempts to negotiate trade in or replacement actions with the dealership have not been successful, as remedies such as trade in reflects its diminished value. the vehicle consistently causes safety concerns to the driver as well as potential occupants. i am a senior citizen, and disabled; these two attributes make automobile safety a particular concern to me. please let me know if you need additional information about these reports.
This vehicle does not shift properly. it has been through multiple reprogram and relearn events for the transmission. it does not know how to shift down from 3rd gear at a rolling stop, and stays stuck in third gear upon acceleration. moving into traffic, this causes a concern, as the vehicle is not accelerating properly. this causes the driver to floor the accelerator, which causes a high rpm, and clunky shift to 1st gear. then the car pulls away with a lot of torque steer and a jerking motion. this occurs on a inclined driveway as well, clunking into 1st gear from 3rd. it is an unsafe transmission. it does not have a predictable driveline response.
Transmission stalls alot and is very sluggish , really afraid to let my son ride in the jeep because im scared we will get hit because you have no power to get out of the way. my jeep always would not start today and when i tried cranking it the brakes felt like a rock and could not be depressed ,,, that could really cause a problem and get myself and others hurt if the brakes did that while driving , thank god i was not on the road this accured in my driveway. scared to really drive this jeep but i pay $940 a month and you would think this thing would run and drive and be safe but im now wondering about this and i have only had this jeep since july 20 15 and it only has 1977 miles on it.hope this info may help others.
Transmission failed to shift. check engine light on, service transmission message displayed.
Very simple, when shifting from 4 to 5th gears in an automatic it will bang and shift very hard. it will not shift down into first without coming to a complete stop. it hesitates and is very unreadable. in my opinion a safety hazard. have taken to dealership and they have said that there is nothing they can do until it produces an engine code or breaks. it is a problem with the solenoid shifting and computer talking to one another. chrysler i think has change the next year transmission due to this problem. this is a safety hazard. this a common occurrence.
Re-occuring problems with the transmission. slow start in first, hangs up in second, rough shift into third. have actually heard a 'clunk' noice while downshifting. have gone to the dealer 6 times for diagnostics and updates, but problems persist.
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 jeep cherokee. the contact stated that both key fobs would fail to start the vehicle and rear brake light failed the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the dealer replaced the brake light and noticed that the failure persisted. several days later, the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle was taken to the dealer again where it was diagnosed that the entire transmission needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the contact stated that the vehicle independently accelerated without the accelerator being depressed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 13,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 jeep cherokee. while driving 65 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the vehicle had a pinched wire. the vehicle was repaired. the vehicle was previously taken to the dealer to be serviced for a customer satisfaction campaign for the transmission control module and power train control module software update. approximately five months later, while driving at an unknown speed, the vehicle accelerated independently and the rpms revved. the vehicle operated properly after the brake pedal was depressed. the vehicle was repaired five times; however, the failure recurred intermittently. the failure mileage was 20,500.
We were driving cross-country, far from home when the service light came on at 5,645 miles. fortunately, we broke down in a city with a jeep dealer nearby that could scan the codes. we learned that the transmission control module indicated a problem with the transmission. the dealer recommended replacing the transmission. after 5 days, we picked up our car. we have noticed rough shifting on both the old transmission and the new transmission. we have since learned that the transmission in this make/model vehicle is new and not production ready. many customers are complaining about the same problems and experiencing close calls with vehicles hitting their stalled car on freeways and busy streets. we are very worried about our safety as the transmission continues to run rough like before. please investigate.
Accelerates with application of brake while in motion turning. vehicle accelerates on its own accord, while in motion. stalled while moving forward in traffic. forward lunging. motor runs very rough. transmission shifts roughly. manual shift does not allow for manual shifting. mileage 16/18 city 22/24 highway which is below ad limits of up to 30mpg. this was a major purchasing point for us. motor whines on passenger side. smell burning anti-freeze. a/c blows only hot air. floor fan on passenger side and rear seat fan barely operate or are non-functional. driver and passenger seats along with visors threads falling apart (seats to be replaced if they ever come in, it has been three (3) months waiting for parts). seal above rear hatch falling off - replaced and fell off again. radio has very poor reception. no cd or dvd player. inside of jeep trailhawk sounds like a city bus - everything sounds loose - this developed after the entire vehicle had been taken apart for numerous repairs. this vehicle is one lunge away from seriously injuring or worse, one or more parties.
This is a newly leased vehicle. after driving at 65 mph for about 20 minutes and then stopping, a burning smell was observed. after opening hood, smoke was rising from behind the engine, but no fire. oil was observed leaking underneath the vehicle and engine oil level had dropped below the recommended level. oil was leaking onto the skid plate and exhaust which caused the smoke. vehicle was driven back to the dealer for repairs. dealer stated the oil pan seal was leaking and replaced the seal immediately at no charge to me.
Shifting with the vehicle or accelerating often has unexpected results. shifting from reverse or park to drive results in lunging forward with increased speed. shift from reverse to park or park to reverse can experience forward lunging. pressing the gas, or even attempting rapid speed increase, can result in an unresponsive vehicle - no movement forward, high revs and significant rpms. after several seconds a rapid "catch" occurs and an uncontrolled jerking lunge forward.
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 jeep cherokee. the contact stated that when the accelerator pedal was engaged, the vehicle failed to accelerate and jerked forward without warning. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission control module needed to be updated. the vehicle was repaired three times but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 11,000.
Transmission shifts hard from 4th gear to 5th gear. 1st gear does not engage immediately when heavy acceleration is required. occurs when the vehicle is in motion on all roads.) shifts hard from drive to reverse. occurs when stopped from drive to reverse. i have taken it to moss bros. dearlship in riverside over 10 times for these issues. the latest time was november 2017. they tell me they cannot replicate the problem and therefore there is nothing to fix. i believe they are lying and the safety of all who ride in my car are at risk. this was first reported to moss bros. on august 5, 2015. the car had 23,907 miles.
Transmission shifts hard and delays starting at stop signs/lights
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 jeep cherokee. while driving approximately 35 mph, the engine shut off and all the warning lights illuminated. the vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the power train module needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was notified of the failure, but did not offer any further explanation. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 5,300.
Check engine light came on. took to the dealer and transmission needed to be replaced. new transmission isn't any better than the old one. didn't like the old transmission from week one.
Vehicle at times in motion and slowing down and lightly touching brake will down shift and accelerate at the same time, when approaching stop sign(light) if not fully ingaging brake quickly vehicle can travel thru intended stop. down shifing and accelerating may also occur on slight down grade, also, with cruise control ingaged. factory technician has driven and evaluated vehicle and states it is operating as designed. problem continues..... most stay reading to fully engage brake if needed.
Transmission problems. transmission was replaced when i had 4,000 miles on the car. i purchased the jeep new its the trail hawk addition. now i have 30,000 miles on it and the transmission is just terrible (even after the transmission was replaced it never ran right). it bucks when it shifts, it doesn't downshift fast enough. if i am stopping at a red light and i have not come to a complete stop and the light turns green and i go from the brake to the gas it hesitates and jerks like the car was 30 years old and had 200,000+ miles on the transmission. i am half scared to drive at night alone. i'm currently going thru a divorce and do not know what i would do if the car left me sit in an unfamiliar area. i purchase new cars so i do not have to worry about breaking down and i understand any car new or old can break down but its less likely a new car will then an older car. jeep needs to fix this problem.
The transmission issue has been occurring intermittently, but the jeep in inoperable when the transmission failure is occurring. the transmission has failed to engage when starting the car or when the auto start/stop sequence occurs while driving. the screens pop up on dash including 4wd failure, parking brake failure, and service transmission. i have now brought the jeep in 3 times in the last month with the same unresolved transmission issue. on the first occurrence, the vehicle was towed into the local dealer, the second time i drove it in after restarting the vehicle and the tcm was replaced. the third time, the dealer was unable to repeat the issue and apparently the codes cleared. the interesting part about the third time was the fact that uconnect sent me an email warning me of the issue. i have very little confidence that this issue will not reoccur. the key takeaway of the issue is once i restart the vehicle several times the transmission eventually engages and the vehicle is drive able. the transmission light remains on, but will clear sometimes.
The transmission sometimes hunts for the proper gear. it also has tried to accelerate when slowing down to a stop. i live on a mountain and when descending i manually shift the transmission to 3rd gear, but when i do, the car will speed up before slowing down. this will cause a problem on snow covered roads. after doing some research, i found that other jeep owner's had the same issue and re-flashing the control module did not resolve the problem, so i have not taken the vehicle back to the dealer for the re-flash. *jb
I purchased a latitude v6 2wd 2 months ago. this past sunday, while stopping at a stop light, the car made a dinging noise, the check engine light came on along with the message that the start/stop feature was not working. when i began to accelerate, the car would not shift gears and by the time i got to 40 mph my rpm's were at 4,000. after a mile or so, i was able to pull over and turn the car off. when i restarted the car, the check engine light remained on but it was driving fine until i got to the next stop light. the same thing happened again. on monday, i had the car towed to the dealership. they told me that they performed updates on my car and resolved the issue. i requested them to test drive it for good measure and was assured all was well on tuesday morning. i picked up the car on tuesday afternoon and before i could get to the highway, the same error returned! this time i was able to accelerate normally without the rpm issue but as i was slowing my car, the down shifting was extremely rough. the service guy brought his tablet into my car and said that the errors were coming from the pcm. today, wednesday, he informed me that they were replacing the pcm. i should get it back tomorrow or friday. i will follow up on this issue. 7/31 - replacing the pcm did not fix the issue. they are now replacing the transmission - which is on a 3 week backorder.
This problems is intermittent when pulling out into traffic vehicle will move but then has no throttle response leaving you in ath of incoming government traffic good 3 second delay and as you can push accelator down and no response then after a delay rpm shoots way up and be vehicle bolts forward. this has even happen when leaving parking spot the trams mission is not consistent on its shifting. i'm going to take to dealer again but if it doesn't show a code they won't do anything. the vehicle could run and drive good for a month then it will have problem again could happen once or each time you take off then goes away and drives fine again. it is usage with the delay and no throttle response and hardy shifting. not a good feeling when traffic coming at you and your vehicle won't move and when it does you bolt forward.i have check over the internet and the are tons of complaints with this vehicles transmission and software. please get this problem fix before someone gets seriously injured or killed.
I have been consistently having transmission issues with my jeep cherokee 15' to include but not limited to: jumpy, lurching and rough shifting during acceleration and deceleration, inconsistent acceleration, grinding/clicking noises during automatic shifting and delayed shifting. the rough shifting, lurching and jumpiness is noticeable on city streets and at low speeds in my parking garage. the delayed shifting has happened on city streets. the inconsistent acceleration is noticeable at highway speeds along with erratic shifting patterns that are unpredictable. the scariest thing about this transmission is its tendency to lurch forward when i try to park my car, when i am stopped at a red light or when i start my car and head out of my parking garage.
The car will accelerate and raise rpm's (sometimes increases speed by 1mph) by itself at 26mph while coasting from 30mph or greater . i'm pretty sure the car is downshifting at this point, but no car i have drove will accelerate while not pressing the gas. when the car is downshifting from any other speed, i can feel the downshift however the car does not accelerate like it does at 26mph. only at 26mph it accelerates at the down shift. sometimes the acceleration is greater then other times, but happens 95% of the time. i was told this is a characteristic of the car and it needs to learn how i drive. which makes no sense because if this is a characteristic of a car, it is a very unsafe one. i feel that this is a safety issue as the car is accelerating on its own while i'm expecting it to de-accelerate. a software update was done on my car, but the issue was not fixed.
As i was driving the car notified me that my 4wd was temporary suspended and after sometime it showed service transmission and the service light came on and my steering was stuck, it was difficult to control the car but i managed to stop the car in a remote place. after i tried to restart the jeep i could not restart it and there was not cranking noise and i got 3 messages on my dash. "service transmission" "service park brake" and svc 4wd. i have had the jeep for less than a month. it just had 939 miles on it.
Needs a new transmission. has been hesitating when starting out and pulling away when brakes were applied. service engine light came on to notify us of problem. dealership advised that it was part of a recall, but we never received notification of this recall.
Service transmission message. hard steering. 2000 rpm @ 30 mph repaired with software on 07/18/15 same problem next day car now needs new tranny
Vehicle surges forward after a stop at numerous & unpredictable times since purchase. this is very dangerous! transmission has been replaced & continues to do this. there is not any predictability as to when this will occur. have had vehicle in for service 6 times & they were 'unable to duplicate concern'. i would not be bringing my vehicle in if i didn't have a concern! i have never had as many issues with a new vehicle as i have had with this one! vehicle lurches/jerks/rocks when shifting from forward to reverse & reverse to forward--doesn't always engage immediately. vehicle has revved with acceleration, would not go forward & then suddenly surged forward several times. pulls to the right on level surface. vehicle rolls forward after braking as brakes don't always grab. after a stop, car rolls forward. many issues with radio jumping around on own & skipping preset stations, volume control, & speakers have gone in & out at random. hands free cell phone doesn't always work. navigation screen has gone blank/black while car still running. i have had a very loud alarm go on from navigation screen for unknown reason. i received an assembly 'ignition on' warning after i turned car off. car wouldn't start after 3 tries, then started. as you can see, the one consistent thing is the surging forward, but always something new & different, also.
After fueling up i pulled out of the driveway and started down the road. about 300 feet down the road the transmission lost power and then reengaged after almost being rear ended. when transmission reengaged the vehicle surged forward.
