We have classified the 977 complaints from 2014 Jeep Cherokee about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
Power train: transmission has been making a large thug which makes you feel like you got hit by a car or puts a delay which you think the car stalls. now the transmission is making loud noises and with a increase of temperature. this issue has been ongoing since we've bought the car. every time we change the oil or bring it to the dealership, we ask about this issue. they did a software push but it still did it and the dealership seem to blow us off every time.
Car has experienced significant transmission issues since taking delivery on 1/26/14. hard shifting between 1, 2 and 3rd gears both up shifting and down shifting. down shifting feels like being rear ended when gear engages and car will jump forward to a stop. if car has not fully shifted into 1st gear before acceleration (as in slow/go, stop/go traffic) it will jump into gear, again feeling like the car has been rear ended or kicked. significant hesitation engaging gears during acceleration especially entering the freeway. sometimes on deceleration the rpm revs up and the car feels like it is going to "break loose" and i have to press the brake to engage gears. the dealer has attempted to resolve these issues 5 times without success. the first time car went in for transmission issues it had only 1267 miles on the odometer. car is back in the shop again today, march 16, 2015, the 6th time for the same issues. *tr
I purchased this vehicle on 2/11/2014 after retiring with the idea i wouldn't need repairs for several years the first problem was on 2/26/14 which was a leak @ canister they replaced evap canister. after that i have had it in several times for a vibration from the front from takeoff & turning beginning before the first oil (approximately 2000 miles)change they kept telling me they didn't feel it. on 6/25/14 they said it was coming from the ptu and replaced it, but it continued with the same problem. the next few times they continued to state that they didn't feel it, on 7/29/14 they stated that they were replacing both front axles per star when we picked it up it still had the shimmy, then on 8/15/14 i was pulling out onto a major highway from a county road & the vehicle would not move the vehicle would sit & rev while i was partially on the highway this time they found the right axle out of ptu too short & replaced again, since then every time i call or go in their i get the same run around their waiting for a fix from chrysler. this has been going on for a year and i feel like the dealer ship is giving us no satisfaction this vehicle is a $35,000.00 car at the very least they need to resolve this problem or at least upgrade the vehicle. i now have 13,000 miles & feel i have been more than patient all i ever here from them at the dealership is their waiting on a fix from chrysler a year should be long enough to come up with a fix.!!!!!!!!! i guess my next alternative is my husband has spoken to an attorney. *tr
After 2 days owning this vehicle the transmission began to have issues shifting from park to drive and reverse. i also got "service transmission" warning lights and "service parking brake" warning lights. the vehicle went in for service and was in the shop for 3 days. 2 months later i had the same issue and the vehicle went in for service for 4 days. 2 months later the vehicle went in for service for the same thing for 8 days. currently the vehicle has been in for service a 4th time for the same thing for 3 days so far. problems range from hesitation and/or jumping into gear from park to drive or reverse, rough shifting at all speeds and parking brake intermittently engaging when placing the vehicle in reverse from park. *tr
As i press on the gas to accelerate to pass or go through an intersection the car does not respond for a very delayed period of time, when it does respond it is when you have mad the decision it is too late to execute the pass or cross the intersection but then the car will respond and i have to hit the breaks. i have been told the delay is normal, or they have reprogrammed my transmission stating that may "fix" the problem. it does not, it just makes the shifting jerky and the delay stays the same. this is dangerous and jeep/ chrysler will not acknowledge there is a problem either in their transmission or in the programming, but it is going to cause an accident or multiple accident as it is not isolated to one vehicle. *js
Front end axle boot leak and subsequent shake/vibration in front end on acceleration and right turns mostly. went into "limp mode" upon driving during low speeds on more than one occasion with check engine and service transmission lights coming on. no good computer history stored in engine computer to determine problem even happened. shake has continued even with replacement of both front axles. limp mode and warning lights haven't happened since transmission wiring harness and transmission computer were replaced . has been serviced by two local dealerships for over a month and have had customer service contact with chrysler/jeep customer service about issues since transmission problems. engaged in lemon law action because purchase dealer has stated on more than one occasion that the shake is a characteristic of the 2014 model of jeep cherokee, "all of them have it on their lot" so there is nothing to fix. i just don't want this to be a larger issue with more vehicles involved so i am reporting my problems. *tr
Transmission shifts very hard, makes driving dangerous when the car won't shift or go from a stop. *tr
While turning at a stop light the car slipped into neutral. check engine light came on, service transmission message on dash, parking brake light came on and also traction control light. pulled over and restarted car still would not engage into to drive. had to let car sit for 30 minutes then restarted and went back in to drive. made it to dealership but slipped out of gear one more time on the 20 minute drive. the exact thing has happened 2 more times and has now been at the dealership 3 times in 2 weeks. afraid for my safety at this point! *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. the contact stated that while traveling various speeds, the vehicle suddenly lost acceleration power. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was found that the rear differential had failed. the vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was not contacted about the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 600. updated 05/28/14 ma updated 05/29/2014 *js the consumer was advised the failure was due to a software issue. updated 05/29/2014 *js
The new 9-speed transmission on the vehicle shifts very poorly. very harsh shifts at slow speeds from 1st to 2nd gear. there has been a few times when the car did not want to shift out of first and when it did, it slammed real hard into second gear. also, car will not shift into 9th gear unless you are coasting downhill and going over 70 mph and when it does, there is a clunking noise. also when driving and need to accelerate suddenly, there is a very large lag time from when you step on the gas pedal and when the car reacts about 4-6 seconds. *tr
Sudden lunges from unexpected downshifts, a lack of kickdown upon attempted accelleration, front-axle vibration (shaking) in low speed in low gears and complete failure to shift into 9th gear. the dealer finally got it to shift into 9th gear at 92mph but it still did not stay in gear. it also has a habit of holding in 7th gear at speeds up to 80mph in level travel on the florida turnpike and other high speed level roadways in central florida. the lunges and vibration are an especially nerve wracking daily experience in stop and go traffic.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. the contact stated that while driving 60 mph, the transmission shifted to neutral independently without warning. the vehicle was taken to the dealer however, the technician was unable to diagnose the failure. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileage was 2,700. updated 03/25/14*lj the consumer stated the incident happened several times. when the transmission downshifted there was a delay before the vehicle moved, in spite of pressing the accelerator pedal. updated 03
Grinding noise in front end, shifting hard with loud clunking noise, high pitch squeal when cold, engine miss when drive like a shutter, shift the car in drive - car went into drive but wouldn"t engage and dash was flashing like the computer didnt know what it was doing, exhaust sputtering noise. *tr
Started shifting rough check engine light would come on dealer flashed but light came on again would go off after three hard starts they keep saying it was a false reading and cleared code and said don't worry unless light flashes it's ok to drive have had it at shop atleast 5 times now at 10,000 miles after 10 months of this problem it started slipping engine would race etc it is in the shop now and they said they are going to replace transmission after i stared talking lemon law this has been going on since i bought this jeep
The transmission has had issues since i got the car, the dealer has done several software updates but none completely solve the issue. the car feels like it wobbles when it accelerates from a stop and they cannot seem to fix this problem or admit that there is one. also, when you turn the steering wheel it makes a grinding or whining noise and i have brought it back twice for this. they just grease the system and it stays quiet for maybe 10 miles. i'm concerned that this could lead to a much bigger issue in terms of safety if it loses steering to some degree.
I purchased this vehicle on december 17th since i have had it.. it jerks very hard while driver like it is switch gears when i took it back to the dealer ship cherryhill triplex put on machine nothing wrong but the jeep is still doing it. took back again on february 17th they still couldn't find the problem but the jeep is still doing the same thing. *tr
2014 jeep cherokee limited v-6 4x4. purchased new. vehicle wobbles in 2nd gear. most notable on fast acceleration. it has continued to do so since purchase. chrysler dealers notified, but have not suggested a fix. *tr
Within 10 days of the purchase of my new jeep cherokee trailhwak i was traveling slowly through a parking lot and approached a speed bump. after traveling over the speed bump i depressed the accelerator when i noticed the vehicle would not accelerate and the transmission sounded as if it was grinding and almost as of something was loose. that particular issue always happens when traveling over a speed bump. i'm now 7 months into ownership and the transmission is very sluggish. hesitation is normal when accelerating from a stop and really nearly constant. when the car was new i just assumed it was a slow/sluggish transmission but after reading much feedback i understand now it is very common. *tr
Since the purchase of my new 2014 jeep cherokee the transmission has shifted rough when in stop and go traffic, getting stuck in the lower gear and then finally slamming into the next higher gear causing the car to jump forward - extremely dangerous when in close traffic! it only happens when in stop and go traffic up to 15-20 mph and it seems like it will not shift no matter how much i accelerate then it releases suddenly. on the highway in the higher gears it seems to slip only occasionally. the rear seat belts also have consistently "locked up" removing all slack until you have to pull over and stop the vehicle, turn it off, unbuckle the belt let it all the way back in and then reattach it. yesterday 4/28/14 it did this again to my granddaughter, when we found a place to pull over it would not let us unbuckle the lap piece or give her any slack in the shoulder strap to get out of it, i was forced to pull into a recycling center and borrowed a knife from one of the workers to "cut" the belt in half so it would release her. both rear seat belts do this on even roads with no sort of incline or bumps! i will be carrying a pocket knife from now on, what if we were in a accident or needed to exit the vehicle quickly??!! dealership said they would order new belts and have them installed, i have an appointment to take it in tomorrow for them to diagnose the transmission problem & seat belt problem. i will follow up with the remedy or lack thereof. the current mileage is now at 8700 miles. *js
Wife was driving new vehicle to work traveling approximately 20 mph. vehicle stalled. tried to restart and the en drive on. service transmission appeared in dash. the check engine light came on and the drive indicator was flashing. vehicle stalled again. restarted again and vehicle moved roughly stuck in one gear acting like it was going to stall again. dealer was called to come get the vehicle for service. the dealer completed update for driveability. no other problems found at that time. began to notice rough shifts sometimes around 8000 miles. i was driving in town on 06/21/2015 and car stalled holding up traffic. same scenario of stuck in one gear, check engine light on,service transmission light on and the drive indicator flashing on and off. had to restart twice and limped home. taking back to dealer today. mileage 14889.
Shift park brake then service transmission. it came on when i first bought the vehicle and continues till this day. when i bring it in they say it's a software update and continues to do the same thing. it's getting worse and worse by the day and i'm scared to drive my own vehicle. i bought the jeep because i heard they were good long term vehicles. i've only had this car for four years and i know i will not let my son drive it!
Since a computer update to my 9 speed transmission, the vehicle has a significant wobble in the front wheels - left to right - when the automatic transmission shift between 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears. it feels as if the power transfer is confused and fighting between sending power to the front left and right wheels. it is significant enough that it is felt in the steering wheel, feet, legs and seat of the driver and the passenger feels the wobble also in the floor and seat. i do have a fear of the electronics and computer controls since this is a defect which can cause a computer malfunction while driving the vehicle. it is an important safety concern for both the vehicle occupants and other drivers around the vehicle. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. while driving at 5 mph, the vehicle stalled. in addition, the vehicle jerked before accelerating. the vehicle was taken to a dealer, who was unable to diagnose or repair the vehicle. the failure recurred on numerous occasions. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 15,000.
Driving on the highway at 65mph when the gas pedal became unresponsive. there was still electrical power to the car but i could not accelerate. this has happened a total of 4 times on the highway twice before the transmission was replaced and twice after. all times i made it safely to the shoulder and could not get the jeep in park. i shut the jeep down and started it again, it fixed the issue. i was able to get the jeep off of the highway and to the dealership. *tr
Vehicle does not shift properly when going up hill at approx. 35-40 mph. rpm will easily reach 6000. letting off of the accelerator does not prompt shift either. *tr
2014 jeep cherokee. consumer writes in regards to transmission problems. *smd very shortly after the vehicle was purchased, the consumer noticed spots on the driveway, which then progressed into a horrible whining and grinding noise. the vehicle started to shift erratically and the consumer did not feel she had control of the vehicle. the consumer made an appointment with the dealer, and after having the vehicle for a day, she was informed the entire transmission needed to be replaced. the dealer explained to the consumer, that part of the transmission was porous, which explained the stains on the driveway in multiple spots. the transmission was replaced under warranty. *jb
The following are descriptions of various issues encountered with the automatic 9-speed transmission on the 4-cylinder 2wd 2014 jeep cherokee (latitude). observations occurred in first 5000 miles since new. 1. sometimes, when downshifting from 2nd to 1st gear, the car lunges forward. normally, its annoying, but sometimes, when stoping at a cross-walk car lunges at pedestrians. no incidents yet, but it can startle or anger pedestrians. also, when pulling up to a tight intersection, car sometimes lunges forward causing nose of vehicle to protrude into intersection. (somewhat mitigated by flash updated, but not completely resolved) 2. often, but not always, during gentle and smooth acceleration when shifting from 1st to 2nd gear vehicle appears to stay too long in 1st gear resulting in decreased power, then when it shifts to 2nd gear, the vehicle lunges forward momentarily before resuming normal acceleration. (also, occurs, between 2nd and 3rd gear, but to a lesser extent.) 3. a few times during firm acceleration transmission hesitates resulting in complete loss of power for 1 or 2 seconds. 4. once, when driving down hill, the the brake was applied and vehicle was stopped. the transmission was switched from drive to reverse, and when brake pressure was released the vehicle continued to roll forward (downhill) for approximately 2 or 3 feet before the transmission finally engaged and went into reverse.
The 9-spd automatic will rev high in first gear until the vehicle is steady at 10 mph and slam hard into second gear. shifting from second gear to third is rough as well. happens every day upon engine start. when the car has been warmed up from driving for approximately 15 minutes it goes away, but begins again upon being shut off and cooled down. this rough shifting is potentially damaging/destroying the automatic transmission and causes the driver/passengers to "jerk around" in their seats. *tr
I was driving on a highway. i made a complete stop at the traffic light when red. on green traffic signal, the car placed itself into no motion. the car activated the following warning lights: parking brake, service engine, stability control, and the monitor displayed service transmission. this problem has been repetitive along with a cat purr during acceleration since first day of new purchase.
2014 jeep cherokee latitude has had transmission problems since i bought it. did one software update on 12/2014 which did not fix the problem. another software update was performed on 05/14 but has not resolved the issue yet. car jerks in low gears (1-3) but now it also makes a metallic noise when going from p to r and into d modes. it is also jerking when i apply the brakes and the engine starts downshifting. both software updates have not resolved the problem, but the last one ( transmission tsb 21-018-14 flash) has added new problems to the car. *tr
The vehicle lunges after you stop as if it is down shifting. sometimes it bangs and jumps suddenly when taking off from a stop. the transmission seems to have not down shifted and is in too high a gear causing the engine to pause before suddenly downshifting and suddenly accelerating which sometimes it to abrupt and you have to slam on the brakes to keep from hitting traffic. we have had several reprograms of the transmission without any resolution. the last caused the car to suddenly lunge and jump out into traffic while sitting at a stop with the brake on and no gas applied. we could have caused an accident... the motor has started leaking oil from the oil filter and cooler assembly on top of the 3.2 liter v6. it appears it has a bad gasket or seal or it may be cracked. i see several other owners complaining of this be cause you can smell burning oil, we removed the top engine cowl and carry a fire extinguisher just in case it catches fire. it appears that you could easily lose most of the oil and seize the motor not to mention catch on fire. the rear hatch camera and controls malfunction in wet weather. the camera turns to snow or moving objects appear frame by frame and not in real time. the controls fail to allow gate operation. i contacted jeep today and am taking it in for the oil issue and will try to get them to fix the transmission and rear gate issues. this is a danger to drive when it can launch into traffic or leak oil causing a fire or short out the gate from an electrical fire. jeep needs to get these issues addressed.
wobble between 15-20 mph i didn't notice it until 2 days after purchase in november of 2013. it's now been 10 months with no fix. i've seen many people having the same issue on jeep forums. some had axles replaced, and some had both axles and transmissions replaced. nothing seems to fix the problem. jeep has to be aware of the problem but i can't even get an acknowledgement that they know problem exists much less a fix. who knows what damage this could be doing to parts on the front end. how about jeep just admitting there is a problem and they are working on a fix! *tr
