We have classified the 977 complaints from 2014 Jeep Cherokee about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
Update on my vehicle.....i just had to take my vehicle back in on 6/22/14 and heard back from the service center on 6/23/14. apparently somehow my passenger side axle broke which caused the loud bang and my vehicle to stop running and/or from going into gear. they are not sure what caused this or why. now they have to replace it. i got my vehicle back on 6/25/14 and it does not drive the same, does not have that smooth shifting like it did before, and can still hear a very faint clinging sound when driving. i do not feel safe with this vehicle any longer. it really upsets me that the manufacture let something like this get passed them. they need to do a better job on inspecting these vehicles before they send them out to consumers and do a better job on inspecting all parts. this incident along with my last one i posted about my transmission were told to the manufacture. now i really do not feel safe with this car, really i don't.
When quickly accelerating from a complete stop (such as pressing the gas pedal all the way down), my 2014 jeep cherokee(3.2l w/ active drive i) significantly shakes from left-to-right similar to where a wheel would be out of balance. this seems to affect performance as well, where the vehicle lags to pick up speed right away, which is concerning when needing to quickly cross expressway intersections. *tr
While slowing down preparing to stop, roughly around 25 mph, the transmission will down shift to the next lower gear, in doing so the system accelerates the vehicle. we've been told that this is normal operation by chrysler. no, it's not! we also had the transmission cause the vehicle to go into limp home mode, almost totally shut down on us while driving. the vehicle had to be towed as it would not allow us to put the car in gear. turns out there was a leak in the transmission line and the fluid was gathering in the front bumper. wouldn't expect a leak with barely 10,000 miles on the car. these are serious safety issues with the vehicle. while preparing this compliant, we did receive confirmation from the dealership that chrsyler would be sending a replacement transmission for the vehicle. we think it is still important to document this issue as i do not believe we are an isolated case of this happening. *tr
Vehicle would not go into gear. starts but won't move. happened several times. *tr
Subject: 2014 jeep cherokee limited, v-6 engine/9 speed transmission, purchased 2/25/14. current mileage: 3940 miles. this subject automobile is experiencing problems that appear to be associated with the transmission and throttle control. the problems are described as: 1.a subtle chatter in the transmission when accelerating similar to clutch chatter. this occurs in lower gears. this behavior is worse when turning hard left/right when transmission is under an acceleration load. 2.the transmission shifting (up and down shift) can be delayed and very abrupt. in going up a hill, the throttle response is delayed with a following abrupt, head jerking downshift. similar abrupt shifts when upshifting 3.throttle response can be abrupt (surges forward) at light throttle application. this in itself is a safety issue when behind a car at a stop. as the cars in front move forward, a slight throttle response causes the car to lurch forward and accelerate faster than the car in front. this happened to me several times. fortunately, i was far enough behind to not hit the car in front. this issue was brought to the attention of the dealer 6/26/14. dealer stated "could not duplicate concern." this complaint is consistent with other complaints for this issue and automobile. judging by the number of similar complaints, it is strongly suggested that nhtsa look into this matter before there are accidents and/or injuries. *tr
When my vehicle is in motion on city streets and on the freeways, it jerks and lunges and has shifting problems due to a 9 speed faulty transmission system.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. the contact stated that while driving 35 mph, the vehicle suddenly stalled without warning. the contact also mentioned that the service transmission and the brake warning lights illuminated. the vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the computer needed to be reset. the vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer, who replaced the entire transmission but the failure reoccurred. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 9,000.
Hard shifting or no shifting at times. won't move after parking on ny incline when started and shifted into gear. up shifting or down shifting at odd times on all terrains. slams into gear causing car to violently jerk forward or backward. when this happens the car must be stopped and turned off then restarted in order to drive again. this first occurred when driving off the dealers lot when the car had 12 miles. the car was kept at the dealership and a new transmission was installed a month later. however, the problem resurfaced again and again. each time we were told it was a software glitch and each time it has resurfaced. the car, in my opinion, is unsafe to drive because it may do this at any time in traffic.
I have filed a complaint here regarding transmission wobble/ shudder in second gear that started at about 2000 miles prior to my second issue i am having now. my cherokee vehicle now shudders all the time and it has just developed a lag in acceleration.i feel like it is the transmission causing both problems. the delay in acceleration is present depending on the gear and speed that the vehicle may be in. the delay has happened when trying to pull out onto highway only to have vehicle pause for at least a second maybe two before it finally will accelerate, allowing traffic behind me at highway speeds to have to avoid my vehicle because of this delay, this has happened several times.had trans flash done prior at dealer and did nothing to fix the wobble/shudder.had shudder documented while i drove vehicle with dealer tech in car.chrysler now told the dealership that this shudder is a characteristic design of vehicle and that i should accept this and nothing's wrong, this is not acceptable, the delay and shudder are dangerous and distracting while driving and will affect resale value. i had the shudder documented by a a.s.e certified technician that said to bring back to dealer for further diagnostic.a different dealer recommended to drive for another 1000 miles and see if it goes away, this will be the 5th time vehicle has been at the dealership.i believe chrysler jeep has no fix for this, and are behind evasive and dishonest concerning these complaints,as other owners have had transmissions and axels replaced and still have the shudder and or delay. thank you. *tr
Jeep transmission does not shift smoothly it pounds into gear and doesnt shift at times.this has happened alot.incident happened in july 2014 when we were driving it stalled check engine light and transmission lights ( maybe same ) came on and we were nearly hit on road by another car.happened again too a few times called jeep they said to drive it down to dealer and that they were having numerous problems with jeep cherokees,.we opted to have it flat bed with a tow truck to dealer as it was unsafe to drive. car is in shop almost a week and dealer called says they reprogramed transmission and it is being test driven at dealer but still bangs into gear and is rough they actually say it will need to get used to driver and stop thuds into gear.unreal ! they actually said this with a new 37,000 suv. its clear this jeep model was not tested rushed to market and is a sever safety issue.we are actually afraid to drive this jeep ! *tr
While waiting at a stop light after it turned green i put my foot on the gas pedal and i heard a popping sound. there was no response on the pedal so we pushed it off the road. called a tow truck and it was taken to the chrysler dealership where they diagnosed it as a failed transmission. a new transmission was shipped from detroit and installed after 3 weeks. while researching this new 9 speed transmission i discovered the fleet one transmissions often fail. *tr
Was driving on a 2 lane highway and the jeep lost power, i pulled over to the shoulder and when i reached a complete stop the jeep shutoff. i could not get it the restart. after waiting 10 minutes i finally got the jeep restarted. when it started it released a huge cloud of white smoke from the exhaust pipes. this is the 4th time this has happened. *tr
Bought a 14/jeep/cherokee sport fwd and started having problems with it a week and a half to two weeks after getting it. on 5/30/14--heard clicking sound from transmission area of vehicle between 30 to 45 mph. also, it would shift hard while accelerating and when down shifting to stop. happened aprox 20-30 times before taking it to service shop. tech told us the transmission was leaking, had no oil. replaced whole transmission they had the car for a week. received vehicle back on 6/7/14. you should know i bought this vehicle on 5/14/14 and it had less than 1500 miles. thought i was buying a good vehicle, guess i was wrong, again!!! 6/21/14--had my car back for only a week, started hearing a grinding sound in the front end, thought it was my brakes or rotors. while i was driving home from work on 6/21/14 at 1:00 am, i heard a loud bang, then a clanking sound; car stalled, pressed on gas pedal would not go, coasted into an empty parking lot. put the vehicle in park and it turned off, let sit for 10-15 minutes. my mom came and picked me up, i started car for her and when i put the vehicle in drive, would not move and only heard clanking and a bang sound. left car in parking lot until morning then had it towed to dealerships service dept to be checked out. of course this happened on a sunday so will not know anything until monday. not happy with this car. going back to where i bought it and going to ask them to take it back and to refund me everything i put into it thus far. not happy!! :-(
I purchased a brand new cherokee, followed the engine/drive train break in procedure as closely as i could, but started experiencing a side to side shimmy in the front end of my vehicle very shortly after purchase. the shimmy happens during acceleration from a stop and seems to disappear as soon as the vehicle shifts into 3rd gear. typically i feel it in the gas pedal and the steering wheel, however it varies in intensity from stop to stop. sometimes it is gone and sometimes it is enough to shake the whole vehicle. i have had the vehicle into the shop 3 times now and each time was told there is no fix for the problem and as far as i can tell was not even addressed. *tr
Four wheel drive selection system was totally inoperative. nine speed automatic transmission does not shift into 9th gear automatically. in manual shift mode 9th gear is selected and tach does not drop to indicate higher gear ratio. software was updated but still same problem - #rrt14-040 - was flashed twice but no difference. code reader shows same problem even when update was completed. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. the contact stated that while traveling various speeds, the vehicle erroneously accelerated. the contact also stated that the vehicle jerked erratically while shifting. the contact mentioned that the vehicle was previously repaired under nhtsa campaign number 14v293000 (vehicle speed control). the manufacturer was contacted about the failure. the failure mileage was 150.
Transmission failed to shift while placing vehicle in reverse to park it. after few attempts including shutting the engine off vehicle made a loud sound an abrupt movement to the rear. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. the contact stated that the vehicle randomly stalled more than five times and was towed to the dealer each time for diagnostic testing and repair. the dealer replaced the transmission and various sensors, but the failure continued to randomly progress. the dealer was unable to provide a repair solution. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and was unable to provide a repair remedy to the dealer. the failure mileage was not available.
Erratic shifting, both upshifting and downshifting. causes car to jerk forward when down and up shifting. car came to a complete stopped then lunged forward causing me to bump into another car. the car down shifted then felt like it was in neutral then jumped into gear again and jumped forward. this car has less than 4000 miles on it now and has been in the shop twice to address this issue since we had it, but the issue still exist. i am deeply worried about this since my wife is afraid to drive the car at times now. it's not clear what chrysler was thinking when they released vehicles with faulty transmissions. not only is this a safety issue, this problem also devalues the car. who would want to purchase or accept this car as a trade-in with a known transmission problem? *tr
5/8/14 - transmission stopped working while driving to work. error messages appeared on the dashboard as the accelerator lost all power causing me to force the vehicle off the road. multiple more error messages appeared to service the transmission. rpms had been running high for a few weeks. gears were not shifting properly. vehicle taken to dealership. it was kept for over 2 weeks for repairs. i was told everything was fixed. 6/9/14 - same exact scenario occurred again. this time, the car brought itself to a halt. i was able to get off the road in time. when trying to shift from park to drive you could feel the car shutter. rpms remained extremely high. car was taken back to the dealership for additional inspection repairs. no updates. *tr
When starting out from 1-2, and 2-3 gears, about 75% of the time one of two things happens.. 1, jerky and hard shifting or 2, does not get gas to the engine until i floor it then it jerks very hard. every time i took it in, i asked them to look at it. they confirmed the problem but a transmission update did not fix the problem. still happening at 11,000 miles. jerks my neck, and worried about getting rear ended.
We have had problems with the shifting of the transmission since we leased the vehicle. the biggest problem is when you are at a stop and go to accelerate - it can take a second or so delay and then it will all of a sudden engage with a jerk. have had it in several times with no resolution - the most recent being a list of "updates" on 3/26/17 - still have issues. love the vehicle and would purchase it at the end of our lease if it weren't for the transmission issue. don't feel i should have to pay the $395 end of lease "disposal" fee since i would be purchasing it if it didn't have the transmission issue.
Transmission shifting problems causing hesitation and/or forward lurching, high engine revving, front end wheel hop. all warrant a huge safety concern. vehicle has been in for service 13 times over the last 14 months and has still not been repaired. several star cases opened with no resolution. all concerns confirmed by technician test drive on 6 different occasions and has currently been in the shop for five days.
When starting from a cold start the engine and/or transmission jerks multiple times for the first minute during driving. after the first stop, the car settles down and does not seem to do it again. *tr
Wobble in front wheels between 1st & 2nd gears, poor transmission shifting. *tr
Main issue is with the nine speed transmission on our 2014 cherokee. we have had issues with this transmission from the day w bought car. initially there were the bumps, bangs, knocks and hard erratic shifting both up and down shifting. now with 20,000+ miles, and many-many trips to dealer we are still having to deal with a situation in which the transmission has been "flashed" to remove second gear on downshift, thus hanging up in third, and causing vehicle to almost stall out when trying to accelerate from a slow, non-stopping speed. this has created some gut wrenching as well situations. the only way i have found to overcome this problem is to manually shift into second gear - - - and this is supposed to be an automatic transmission. my wife generally uses this car and does not really understand the "manual shifting part". hopefully, she won't get injured or worse in this thing!!! this needs to be fixed!!!!!
I purchased a new 2014 jeep cherokee on nov 11. car has a very noticeable wobble between 10-15 mph when accelerating from a dead stop. wobble can be minimal or intense enough to make your legs shake. i've taken it to the dealer five times. the first three times i was told they could not replicate the claim even when a service worker felt the wobble. the fourth time the assistant manager was able to feel the wobble. they finally put it on the rack and could 'not find anything wrong' and said it was safe to drive. i was told to bring it back when the check engine light came on (it never has). the car now will now hesitate to accelerate when driving down side roads and even on the interstate. now when the car wobbles it feels like it could literally slide off the frame. on occasion the car will feel like it is jumping up the hill. i feel that this car is no longer safe to drive. i also had an incident when driving down the highway at 55 mph the car stopped accelerating and actually slowed down 10-15 mph. was trying to pull off the road when the car suddenly shifted very hard and began accelerating again. i was told that this was 'impossible' from the service department. i'm also having a major issue with the service department not giving me paperwork!! *tr
Very harsh gear engagement while vehicle is in motion. significant lag before downshift, followed by a harsh gear engagement and the loss of control when vehicle finally accelerates at a high rate. whole car shakes violently with 1-2 and 2-3 shift. transmission holds gear while on slight inclines with moderate throttle.
We took delivery of our 2014 jeep cherokee limited on march 14,2014. after driving it for approx 1 month we noticed a very prominent wobble/shimmy in the front end on acceleration, this stops after it shifts into 3rd gear. we took it back to the dealer with this issue ,they agreed there was a problem. first the dealership replaced the rear shaft and it got worse, next they replaced the cv shafts and isolator bushing. these repairs did not fix the problem. then we were told to drive the vehicle and it would get better. we now have 6000 miles on it and it has only gotten worse. we are now told that vehicle operates as designed?? who designs a vehicle to wobble/shimmy on acceleration? this is unacceptable and we will never buy another jeep. we have owned 4 jeeps in the past. *tr
When we bought the 2014 jeep cherokee it was new. there was no issue with the transmission until we had owned it for about a month. then it started having a rough shimmy as it searched for the correct gear going from 0 to 10 mph and then 10 to 20 mph. once it reaches about 25 miles per hour there is no issue with the shifting. we have had it back to the dealership 3 times. each time they said it was fixed, but upon leaving the lot, it did the same thing i had taken it in for to begin with. with jeep's update, we now have a long pause going up hill before it gives a rough shift at about 5 mph and then continues to shimmy at 10 to 20 mph. i was told on the third visit they would submit a report to the manufacturer to see what the next step should be to fix the jeep since the updates did not work. however, they tried the same thing again and said they thought it was fixed, but it wasn't. upon completion of the second visit i was told it needed to get use to my driving pattern? what exactly does that mean? what if more than one of us drive the vehicle? i am getting the run-around from jeep on a product they shouldn't have sold me in the first place. everything i read prior to the purchase raved about the 9 speed transmission. unfortunately, that was incorrect since the transmissions in the 2014 jeep cherokees all have the same issue and jeep doesn't really know how to fix them. i believe i need a new transmission; but will have to force jeep to do it and hope it works. my time is work something - just fix it. it's a lemon in my opinion. *tr
Very noticeable wobble in the front (possibly the right side) of the jeep when starting from a dead stop and/or turning right from a dead stop. had front axles replaced (on less than 2000 miles on a $33,000 vehicle!!) at dealership and on the drive home from picking up the vehicle, the wobble happened when i left a gas station - from a dead stop and turning right. this seems to happen after i've driven it for awhile and the vehicle is warmed up. i'm nervous this will become a safety issue and i've seen many other posts from people having this same issue. i am not happy about a wobble in a brand new vehicle and won't just "deal with it." i am concerned that this is a deeper issue than the axles and i will be left stranded on the highway someday. *tr
Driving along at 30 when first the engine light came on, then immediately after the display said transmission and the display was lighting up with all sorts of symbols. the transmission completely disengaged and the car coasted to a stop. it would not move. fortunately when i felt it losing power i was able to make a quick turn into a store parking lot. had that happened on the highway i could have been killed because the car just totally lost all motion as i was driving. i turned it completely off for a few minutes and it started but with the engine light showing. i called the dealership kelly jeep chrysler in lynnfield and told the service department what happened. i drove straight there...furious. the service guy took down the information i relayed about the incident. i told him i had read recently that their 9 speed transmission had known issues and he said he didn't know anything about that. i told him not to even tell me i am the first to report this problem and he said "maybe not in the whole country but i don't think we've had this problem here" and i told him not to speak down to me because it has been written about already as a known issue. he already had the courtesy car waiting for me and he immediately walked me out the door to the car. i was there less than 5 minutes. i know he did not want me speaking to anybody in the service waiting room as i could see people sitting there waiting for their own repairs. this is an issue that will end up killing somebody. *tr
On april 1, 2015 while accelerating from a complete stop to merging into on coming traffic the transmission disengaged and the car lost all power. warning came on the dash telling me " transmission needs service. no power. pull over to side of road. put car in park and shut off engine." this happened again on july 17, 2015 while my wife was making a left hand turn from a complete stop. the transmission disengaged again and she lost all power. she was nearly rear ended by a semi truck who was behind her but made the left hand turn without slowing down. she had our 2 grand daughters in the back set and was scared and afraid for their safety. this 2014 jeep cherokee model has had continued issues with the 9 speed transmission and all jeep does is issue software upgrades to try to eliminate the shifting and poor acceleration problems this transmission continues to have. with the transmission disengaging at lower speeds someone is going to get killed if not seriously hurt. the nhtsa needs to issue a recall to jeep before someone is killed by this faulty transmission that was brought to market before long term test could be conducted on it to make sure it functions properly and safely.
Car was purchased brand new in march of 2014. has consistently had issues with the transmission. car shift hard (in the lower gears), transmission makes loud noises, and has repeatedly jerked forward when downshifting. there have been a few times where i nearly rear ended another vehicle due to this. have had the car back to the dealer for all recalls and transmission software updates as required. i am currently at 75,000 miles and now the car is randomly stalling when slowing down or backing out of my driveway. i am going to be taking it to the dealership in two weeks when i am on vacation to see what the issue is. very unsafe vehicle!
9-speed transmission, when in drive and slowed to nearly a stop, drops into neutral and when i accelerate, the engine revs and the transmission slams into gear causing the tires to squeal. complained and took into premier dodge in tracy, ca and was told this is normal for this transmission. began happening since new in 2014 and still have problem after many 'updates' and complaints to them. major safety issue if i need to accelerate quickly!
I purchased a 2014 jeep cherokee ltd. in 10/2013 for my daughter to learn to drive (with learner's permit) and to drive when she gets her license soon. i was driving the car in march on i-10 in heavy traffic time when suv made a whining noise, gears stalled for several seconds, rpm's dropped. suv continued to do this at a variety of speeds with increasing frequency. the car has less than 7000 miles, so i brought suv to selling dealer's service department and was told they could find nothing wrong. they guessed and updated software, then closed the service order. after leaving dealership, suv performed 5 intermittent and similar episodes on the way to destination that was about 7 miles away. i returned suv to the same service department the next day and reported the incident to chrylser and jeep customer care (jcc). jcc contacted the dealer. a decision was made to remove the entire transmission to be sent to jeep engineers to dissect and determine cause of the problem. a new transmission exact to the old, only with 'updates' was placed in the suv. since these series of events have occurred, i have discovered that the jeep cherokee had 4 holds on releasing the suv due to the issues with 9 gear fiat transmission. i was also told by the dealer that ours was the 2nd such case seen in their service department with the same problem. ultimately, jcc offered more warranty and the ability to skip one payment of which i did not accept. the only acceptable offer would have been for the engineers to tell me that the suv is safe for their own new teen driver or to take the suv back, to no avail. jcc sent the case to the 'case analyst' team, but ultimately closed the case as resolved. i have serious concerns about my daughter driving the suv once she obtains her license. i also have concerns about her younger brothers riding in an suv that may perform unsafely and unpredictably. *js
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. the contact stated that while waiting at a traffic signal, the check engine warning lamp illuminated as the vehicle started to jerk violently. the contact mentioned that the vehicle shifted into neutral independently. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician diagnosed that the power control module needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer, who then replaced the cam phaser, valve body casting, sensor casting and the coil return. the remedy failed to repair the failure. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 14,500 and the current mileage was 14,954.
Immediately after purchase, i noticed a degree of sluggishness during transmission shifts and lack of ability to reach 9th gear using the automatic transmission in drive mode. 9th gear is unattainable. the dealer told me that the transmission "learns" to an individual's driving style; be patient. at 3775 miles 4 aug. 2014, i returned the vehicle to the dealer, and they did, as they termed it, a software update; but the update didn't really fix the problem. on 09 apr., 2015 i again returned the vehicle to the dealer with the same complaint. they reported that they had performed a reprogram of transmission and powertrain control modules (r01 18-r0-11-84 0.5 & 18-ro-11-52 0.8). since then, my vehicle has been performing even worse. approaching an uphill incline, the transmission doesn't downshift until it nearly stops; then it suddenly after 3-5 seconds, lunges forward. also i experienced a near 't' bone miss, as i attempted to accelerate from a stop sign because. the vehicle seemed to be stuck in a high gear and wouldn't respond expect in a sluggish way that only got me in the way of approaching traffic. by aggressively pushing on the gas it eventually shifted and bolted out of the way of oncoming traffic. i contacted the dealer about this, and was told there is another software update due about the end of june 2015. i contacted them again during the week of 6 july, but was told that there is no update. frankly, i'm afraid to drive it. it just isn't safe behaving in this unpredictable manner. i've given it enough miles to allow the transmission/drivetrain to learn my driving habits. when i do drive it, i'm reluctant to have anyone else in the vehicle. is there anything that your office/nhtsa can do to motivate chrysler-fiat to eliminate this concerning issue? the dealer is york, 500 prescott lakes parkway, prescott, az 86301.
The transmission is not any good in the jeep that i purchased. the jeep is stalling and hesitating to change gears and it is an automatic. when i am proceeding to leave from a stop sign the jeep will start to go and then it act as if it doesn't know which gear to change to. while driving, this jeep will act as if it is changing gears. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. the contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the accelerator pedal was depressed, but the vehicle failed to accelerate and jerked violently. the failure recurred numerous times. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 14,000.
The problem with choppy shifting was apparent as soon as i picked up the vehicle. soon after leaving the dealership, multiple lights lit up and the shifting was abrupt and there was a fire smell. upon returning to the dealership, i was informed that there was a software "glitch," which they repaired. since then, for one year, the car continues to have choppy and inconsistent shifting. it is a very temperamental and difficult vehicle to drive. the latest software patch, installed on 3/29/15 made shifting from start up to first/second gear worse. the car is being returned to the dealership on 4/13/15 for further investigation. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. the contact stated that the air conditioning unit failed to work properly. the vehicle was taken to a dealer. the technician stated that the refrigerant needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired however, additional failures occurred. the instrument panel failed, the vehicle stalled without warning and the vehicle failed to shift into reverse. the vehicle was towed to the dealer. the technician was unable to diagnose the failure. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was not available.
This car has been looked at by chrysler group llc for steering/transmission issues 4 times since march 22,2014. there has been two software updates that have not corrected the problem. there is a safety issue driving the vehicle that needs to be addressed before someone gets really hurt or killed. *tr
Car just stopped on highway. since then 7 incidents, check transmission, engine light on,car going out of gear and not moving. into service 3 times, now [xxx] has had it for 2 and 1/2 weeks and chrysler will not let them put in new transmission, keep putting parts in and then another problem comes up. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
Chrysler's new 9 speed transmission started always speeding up when i would let off the gas and expect the vehicle to slow down, even when i just wanted to slow down while coming to a stop light or stop sign. when i hit the brake the vehicle would only then slow down. it scared me when the vehicle would accelerate on it's own. shifting got very jerky and uneven seemed like could not decide which gear it should be in. while on the freeway in las vegas the message center said"service transmission and the engine light stayed on. when i was able to exit the freeway the transmission sounded like it had sand in it, a very loud grinding sound and there was no power to move the vehicle. i did get it to coast into a safe location to wait for the tow truck to come and get the vehicle. this was the second time this vehicle had a problem the first time was at 3,000 miles. had the same message on the message center, again i coasted off the highway and came to a stop. at this time the transmission would not engage so the vehicle would not move. it was towed to a jeep dealer where they said the computer needed an up date for the transmission, they did it and off we went not knowing that we would be left sitting on the side of the road a second time. i did not see a compliant for this type vehicle on your complaints box at this web-site but i have entered this compliant with you before. *tr
On or about march 10 2014 while driving my new cherokee at about 2000 miles i felt a wobble when taking off from a complete stop, seemed to be front right side of vehicle shimmy and then stop.as days went on i noticed it more and more. several weeks ago i did an internet search for my vehicle having a wobbling issue and found the jeep cherokee forum with a handful of others with similar issues with there 2014 cherokees also, this made me very worried that there is a serious problem.the vehicle wobbles side to side most of the time while at about 1700 rpm in 2nd gear and then seems to stop when the trans engages into 3rd.speed varies from about 10 to 15 mph.dealer could not replicate the problem, wobble is light at times or can be very noticeable as to make your legs shimmy side to side, wobble sometimes goes away only to start to shimmy again hours later.i currently have 3300 miles. i have informed my dealers tech rep that i am concerned about the vehicle going out of control or malfunctioning due to the wobble, the dealer tech rep stated that as far as that could tell it is safe.it is still shaking now most of the time and wanted to report this issue to you asap thank you *tr
while traveling on a trip, i noticed i was loosing speed while going down a 4 lane road. i looked at the control center and the message was "service transmission and the check engine light was on". i was losing speed so pulled off on the side of the road. the engine had quit running and the jeep would not go into any gear. we were in the desert 40 miles from no where! called a tow service they took us to the nearest jeep dealer. next morning the dealership called and said our jeep was ready to go. second time july 14, 2014 while traveling on a 2 lane highway i noticed i was losing speed. the message center said " check battery" again the engine shut down as i was moving to the side of the road. contacted the service dept. of our dealership. was told to wait 10 min. then try to start the jeep. it did start and we made it back home. third time, nov. 20, 2014 while traveling noticed the jeep would speed up when i let off the accelerator to slow down or coast. if i applied the brake the jeep would then slow down. noticed every time i let off the gas the jeep would speed up not slow down. about 30 min. more of traveling time i again got the message "service transmission with the engine light on. i got over to the side of a 6 lane interstate highway and called for a tow truck again was taken to the nearest dealership. at that point 12, 967 miles on the odometer. six days later when the dealership got around to the diagnosis on the jeep they said it needs a new nine speed transmission. we were home at that time 460 away from where we had to leave the jeep when it quit running. being stranded on the side of a road in a new vehicle is not safe but unacceptable performance for a new vehicle. *tr
Vehicle has been taken to dealer for same issue 4 times. the information reflected indicates the first time that we brought the care in. initially we took the care in because vehicle was shifting roughly and would sometimes delay before engaging gear when pressing accelerator. after vehicle reprogrammed and returned to customer it was being driven on freeway at normal speeds when the check transmission light came on, told driver to pull over and the vehicle lost ability to accelerate. vehicle coasted to side of freeway and was towed to dealer who attempted to fix vehicle. vehicle returned to customer, a short time later vehicle had same issue on freeway. again towed to dealer who again attempted to repair vehicle and replaced transmission. a couple of months later while driving on the freeway again vehicle exhibited same exact behavior. was towed to dealer awaiting resolution of issue. this problem represents a significant safety hazard. review of similar incidents on this website as well as other websites indicates this is a widespread problem that tends to occur at high rates of speed when a complete loss of vehicle power is dangerous to both those driving the affected vehicle and those on the road. *tr
A jeep authorized dealership changed the engine oil and oil filter for my vehicle. about 15 minutes after i took my vehicle from the dealership, the incident happened on a highway. "service transmission" warning showed up first, the engine light was on, and some electronic functions were disabled, which include, but are not limited to, the forward collision warning, the parksense, the lane sense, and the adaptive cruise control. the esc activation / malfunction indicator light was on. there was loud rattling noise from the engine, and the vehicle was shaking while moving on the highway. i had a difficult time moving the vehicle off the highway. after i parked on a surface road, i found no engine oil was registered on the dipstick. the leaked oil was splashed over the vehicle's exterior. in particular, it covered the parking sensors and the rear window, which disabled the electronic safety features and greatly reduced my visibility while driving. the vehicles behind me on the highway were also splashed by the leaked oil and were beeping and/or cutting in my lane to complain. the dealership determined that the rubber ring that seals the cartridge housing of the oil filter was broken, causing the engine oil leak. this o-shaped rubber ring comes with the oem oil filter that was installed when the oil filter was changed. the engine was damaged. the dealership stated that no test drive is required to check if there is a leak for oil change service. three other jeep dealerships confirmed this claim. i believe there is a design defect in the oil filter sealing that can cause life threatening accidents. i believe jeep does not instruct their authorized dealership to implement an oil filter change procedure that ensures a part defect like this would be discovered before the vehicle leaves the dealership. *tr
Vehicle has shimmy in right front wheel when pulling out from a complete stop or turning right at a low rate of speed, i.e. 2nd gear, 10-20 mph. *tr
