We have classified the 977 complaints from 2014 Jeep Cherokee about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
I was driving in the far left lane on the freeway at approximately 68 miles per hour when suddenly my vehicle shook and the transmission stopped functioning. it left me in a very dangerous situation as i had to slowly drift to the shoulder lane with fast vehicles approaching behind me. i could have easily been rear-ended at a 65+mph speed as i was not able to accelerate to move to the shoulder safely at a normal speed. i was at the mercy of cars behind me that noticed my hazards and slowed down to let me over. the service transmission message began to display as well as the check engine light. the message display instructed me to put the vehicle into park then back into drive. once on the shoulder i did as the display message instructed but still once in drive my vehicle would not accelerate at all while pressing on the gas. after 4 attempts i decided to try to manually shift the gears which finally got my car moving. i have an appointment to take my car in for service tomorrow. the car has less than 8,000 miles on it and i have had it for less than 1 year.
4 seperate occasations the transmission has went wacky on this vehicle. the first while driving, it became uncontrolable and jerky to the point i almost ran a stop sign, and nearly ran off the road. the next three time i was parked but the transmission says it was in park, but still gives away and if your not quick on the brakes it will roll away. have gotten a look like i'm making this stuff up at the dealership each and every time. they just just reset the codes, then it happens again. finally, they agreed it needed a new transmission. i don't understand why there hasn't been a recall on the 2014 jeep cherokee.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. while driving approximately 60 mph, the vehicle's speed decreased independently to 30 mph without warning. additionally, the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission module needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 9,100.
2-18-18 in the morning backing out of driveway engine cut offf. 2) 9-12-17 in the daytime on a local town rd. making a left turn engine cut off. 5-16-17 daytime stopped at a red light on route 17 hwy engine cut off. 6-16-15 daytime going 20 miles an hour engine cut off in the middle of the road local town road. this is happening because the oil level is below a certain level, however the oil is not at a low oil level according to the dipstick. dealership said we have to check the oil level every time we drive our vehicle. having many problems with engine/transmission still under warranty but i am not getting any help i was told there is nothing that they can do to help me.
2015 jeep cherokee - transmission issues. started with a jump and crashing sound on acceleration from stop, then started slipping and non engagement during driving. i took it in and had 3 system updates done, and 2 weeks later (june 12th, 2015) i was driving in rush hour traffic and the transmission stopped all together, not responsive, engine check light went on, and the system computer said service transmission. i was almost killed on the highway because the car just stopped. ...updated 07/30/15 *bf updated 9/24/15 *js
3 months after ordering my jeep the transmission started shifting really hard and making noises, then started to leak fluid. took it in to the shop where they couldn't move it from the show floor. the transmission was bad. took them 30 + days to get my car back to me. didn't install the transmission correctly and they broke the guard, as well as the passenger door handle fell off. after multiple return trips to correct the hard shifting this car was deemed a lemon.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. the contact stated that while attempting to shift into reverse, the transmission failed to shift. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 10,050. updated 8/28/15*cn updated 10/19/2017*cn
I was driving home on the freeway going about 50mph and all of a sudden i got a series of messages: "service transmission" "service parking brake" "4wd not available".put gear into drive" i was on a ramp merging to another freeway with very little room on the side i shifted the car from drive to park, dash message said to shift back into park, and then into drive. when i shifted back into drive, the transmission made a very loud bang (like somebody hit the bottom of the vehicle with a mallet) the engine indicator was flashing and the error messages were coming up on the screen. this is not the first time i had this issue. last time i had to shut the jeep off and wait about 30min for the computer to reset before i could start it and shift into gear. last time the dealer replaced the transmission valve but obviously did not fix the issue. i am concerned that this can happen anywhere at anytime.
Came to a stop light, car would not move all the warning lites came on saying service transmission, service parking brake the engine lite came on the tracton lite came on, when i shut car off and restarted it the transmission banged loudly and the lite for drive kept flashing, when i would come to a stop the warning message would say put in park and then select gear
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. while driving 10 mph, the transmission seized and the vehicle stalled. the contact was able to restart the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the vehicle was not diagnosed, but the technician cleared the vehicle's computer codes. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 6,000.
Car engine light on. car accelerating while slowing down between 25 down to 20 mph dealer replacing transmission service manager stated all cars have problems including ford, chevy, ect. no big deal. previous complaint when computer module failed at 3500 miles and car suddenly lost all power going 70 mph on i65 near nashville. service mgr said 1 in million chance, just happens once in awhile. complaint 10621360.
I bought my 2014 jeep cherokee brand new off of the lot on 4/25/2015. with less than 200 miles on it i noticed that the transmission would hesitate from a stop, and seem almost like the transmission would have a "lag" when i accelerated going up a slight incline and be jerky when it shifted at times. it has been in the jeep dealership 2 times for this and is scheduled to go again on 8/31/2015. this time it is lunging after backing out of garage and going into drive. it is scary when it finally grabs the gear it actually squeals the back tires. the 1st time on 6/3/15 the dealership performed a software update for pcm, & tcm. 2nd time 6/23/15 the dealer did a tcm software update 181905bk .3 02-19-05-95 .4. this time i rode around with the mechanic to 1/2 hr after he did the update. most of the time these issues happen at lower speeds, but now i have noticed it happening on the freeway too. i do not feel safe driving this car anymore.
When going from a stopped or slow speed to a quicker speed the jeep does not respond. it stalls, sometimes in the middle of a road, then will suddenly kick very hard and finally get going. the ca does this if i am merging onto a highway, going on a green light, or pulling into traffic (turning left or right). the way it is acting it is extremely likely that i will be hit. this has been happening for several months. i have take to two different dealerships and told two different things. one saying there was a software update they did that should take care of it, would not explain the update to me. the other saying they could not replicate the problem and everything seems to be operating fine and that this is just the "new 9 gear transmission deciding on a gear"
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. while driving approximately 5 mph, the vehicle suddenly stopped moving and the "service transmission" and "service parking brake" sensor warning lights illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the transmission was reprogrammed, but the failure recurred approximately eight months later. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 25,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. while driving at approximately 15 mph, the vehicle upshifted without being prompted and then returned to original shift without warning. the failure recurred numerous times. the vehicle was repaired under the manufacturer recall, but the failure persisted. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the failure was undetermined. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 12,000.
There is problem with the transmission. after coming out of a turn or even just taking my foot of the gas for a second and then stepping on the gas there is a "dead pedal" for a couple seconds as the transmission does nothing. the dealer says that jeep is aware of the problem however since there is currently no fix the dealer notes on my invoice that is is normal and by design. this condition where the car basically stalls is potentially dangerous as there is a possibility that i could get rear ended while my vehicle tries to figure out if it wants to downshift or not.
Upon acceleration from full stop my jeep made a loud clunking sound from the rear of the vehicle which felt like something was jammed in the axle. had the vehicle towed to courtesy motors in danville, il and they replaced the rear differential. they refused to provide a loaner although it took 4 days to repair. when i picked it up on 5/26 the same issue was still present. i was told to "baby it" on my 4 hour drive home and take it to my dealer. my dealer identified the 2nd issue as the power transfer unit which is being replaced as well. my dealer gave me a loaner but 13 days in the shop to replace such items on a vehicle less than a year old is seriously concerning!
Driving on parkway and 2014 cherokees transmission failed. truck went into neutral and luckily coasted to side of road. the truck had numerous lights on dash flashing. after a few minutes of failed attempts to get into gear, i shut truck off and restarted. the truck then was able to get into gear, and brought to dealer. it's been 10 days and the truck is waiting for a new replacement transmission. unfortunately it is on back order and they can't give me an answer when one will be available.
I took my car in to the dealer as a result of a software recall related to the transmission. the upgrade apparently has its own issues. now the car will not downshift from 3rd to 2nd unless you absolutely floor the accelerator. driving up hills is now a real problem. the car seems to have lost a lot of power in general, too. i looked online in jeep cherokee forums and it looks like a very common issue.
i own a jeep cherokee altitude model with a v-6, awd, and the 9-speed transmission. approximately 700 miles after receiving the r01 software update to my transmission, the car experienced complete transmission shutdown. the engine continued to run, but no power was transmitted to the wheels. warning lights came on reading "service transmission", service engine and service parking brake indicators lit up, and the information center instructed me to pull over in a safe place, shift into park, restart the engine, and select desired gear. once done, the transmission shifted into drive with a violent "clunk". the vehicle would move then, but with only partial power. the dealer "reflashed the control module" and declared the vehicle repaired. after four subsequent events identical to the first, and three additional trips to the dealership, i still do not have my vehicle in my possession. this has been going on for 85 days now. the obvious safety issue of a vehicle losing power at speed concerns me, of course, but the problem i am experiencing seems to be beyond the ability of fca to remedy. there are many of us with this experience, and we would like some assistance.
The vehicle rolled backward into another vehicle after being put inot park.
The transmission has been plagued with issues from the beginning. rough shifts in the early gears, slow to downshift to provide any kind of acceleration when merging into traffic, extremely hard shifts after decelerating and then pressing the gas to start again before a complete start, and lurches forward with acceleration while decelerating - causing a huge safety issue in my opinion. the multiple software updates (including the most recent r01 recall) have improved these issues but they are far from what i consider acceptable in a vehicle. i am now the owner of a car that no one would ever purchase from me, so not only is it a safety issue but jeep has caused me a huge financial problem by sticking me with this awful transmission that was no where near ready for the road. jeep needs to be forced to address this issue now.
Driving home, the car suddenly shifted from drive to neutral. alarm sounded and a message of shift to park and restart. engine light came on dash display. the engine continue to run, but there was no power to the transmission. we coasted off the road. i put the car in park and it restarted. after a few seconds the transmission re-engaged. we were near the dealer where we purchased the car. they gave us a loaner and kept the car. we were advised there was a recall on transmission module and powertrain module. we picked our car up from the dealer and it seemed fine. but on 5/20/15 we experienced the same problem. the dealer said they reprogrammed the electronics and road tested the car and all was well. on 6/4/15 we had the same failure. we just missed having another vehicle run into us since the car just stopped it's forward progress. the dealer has the car now. the said they have no idea at this time (3:00 pm) what the problem could be. the first two failures weren't bad because we were the only vehicle on the road. the third failure nearly caused an accident. i just spoke with the service department. they said the vehicle had failed during a test drive, but they cannot isolate the failure at this time.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. while driving up a hill and attempting to accelerate, the vehicle did not accelerate over 20 mph. while the brake pedal was depressed, the engine rpms increased. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed an upgrade. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 12,000.
Short shift: jeep cherokee 9-speed automatic got second update for rough shifting and i still have the same problems with the transmission. it is getting worse. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. while driving 25 mph, the accelerator pedal was depressed, but the vehicle hesitated and jerked before moving forward. in addition, the vehicle failed to start. the failure recurred on numerous occasions. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was unknown.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. while driving at approximately 15 mph in third gear, the vehicle failed to downshift while traveling down a hill. the failure recurred numerous times. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the vehicle's software needed to be updated. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 6,000.
Received a recall notice from fca to take 2014 jeep cherokee in for a transmission recall update.told it would take 30 minutes. took into martin swanty kingman, az monday april 6 2015. picked up tuesday april 7th. turned right back around april 7th because engine light appeared. they cleared the light right away april 7. left martin swanty, kingman transmission jumping unsafely. took back to swanty kingman then swanty bullhead city calls me to tell me they have my car and they can't do the update. will install a new transmission. had to fight dealership for rental because they had my car until april 22nd. picked up car. still not running right. almost in accident in parking lot and multiple intersections because car jumps in lower shifting. took car back may 5 shop service mgr states they did not do the proper update on the new transmission need to do 21-007-15 manually not thru computer. pick up completed car 5/6 still not running right. no return call from dealership in kingman when called 5/11/15. called fca 1 800 # multiple times. very consoling but not an effective resolution waiting for someone to call me back. not driving this dangerous vehicle anymore. dealership did not approve rental since first time had my car. today car jumped on freeway when excelled to 70 mph. instead of replacement done under recall placed it under warranty.
When accelerating, the vehicle stops accelerating and i lose speed before the transmission seems to "catch" again. the transmission also has a very hard start, it sounds like the transmission is going to fall out, when i come to a rolling stop and start again and the vehicle lunges forward. also as i stop accelerating to slow down (without braking), the car will accelerate (slightly), the tachometer increases, then decreases. this is a terrible transmission, an accident waiting to happen. *tr
New software update was done to car per recall for "reliability". this recall changes the way the car shifts, such as remaining in 3rd gear, rather than downshifting to 1 or 2. a low speeds such as 15 mph when driving up a hill, the car will not down shift and slow down almost to a stop. depressing accelerator does not lead to any further acceleration until approx 3/4 of the way down. at this time the car downshifts to 1st and accelerates rapidly, even breaking traction. similarly when cruising at a steady speed such as 20 mph car remains in 3rd gear, causing engine lugging and very slow acceleration, once causing a near accident as the car did not accelerate as quickly as it did before this software update. jeep dealer says "shifting as intended" and no errors. this behavior was not present before software update and did not change when dealer attempted reflash. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. while driving at 50 mph, the accelerator pedal was depressed and the vehicle hesitated before accelerating. in addition, the contact stated that while at a stop, the vehicle jerked. the failure recurred on numerous occasions. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign numbers: 15v041000 (air bags) and 14v392000 (suspension); however, the parts needed to repair the vehicle were unavailable. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was unknown.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. the contact stated that while turning the ignition key to start the engine, the vehicle suddenly surged forward. the contact also indicated that when going from stop to start and while ascending up a hill, the vehicle hesitated to accelerate. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who performed a pcm and dtcm update but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 25,000. updated 02/19/16*lj the consumer stated the transmission was replaced which resolved the surging issues. the shifting failure persisted, the failure could not be determined. *js
When driving on i-95 south in the left lane i was accelerating to pass and the engine speed dropped like it was turned off. multiple dash lights flashed and several messages flashed on dash: service transmission, service e-brake, put vehicle in park and restart, etc. vehicle was coasting down from 65 with people catching up to me and beeping. park was not an option. the gas pedal did not function. i was able to coast into a construction zone and shut down. on first restart it was real rough. on second restart engine seemed fine and i had a mil light and a traction control light on the dash. police detail officer assisted me off of the interstate and it was driven to dealer on back roads. they pulled codes and re-flashed the control units with the software they had applied two days before. they claimed it was a faulty or incomplete upgrade. they "re-trained" the transmission and it worked fine until this morning (8/7/15) when it did it again whilst accelerating onto highway. same faults. it is at dealer now and i want them to buy it back. it only has 16200 miles and i have had it less than a year. i cannot drive a vehicle that shuts down on the highway. someone is going to get hurt or worse.
Since the first day we owned this care the shifting seemed not quite right. there were several times the transmission revved before engaging when shifting from reverse to drive. recently a recall was issued with regards to the transmission and the computer software. after getting the vehicle serviced for the recall, the shifting issues became worse and now pose a safety concern. during low speed driving on our inclined gravel driveway we experienced loss of power and rapid drop in rpms momentarily. also while pulling out into highway and accelerating, the transmission failed to shift with the rpm's rose to 5000 which failed to allow us to get up to the speed of the adjacent traffic. we took the vehicle in again for service and we were told all parameters were within specifications and there was nothing more they could do at this time. *tr
I have had three recalls on this model. one for a transmission recalibration, one for a shock absorber, and one for an airbag. there is one outstanding for the liftgate but the parts are not available.---i stopped at a stop sign on april 1, 2015 and turned right. the vehicle wouldn't accelerate and several icons appeared on the dash. i turned the vehicle off and on several times and shifted it in and out of gear several times. it finally went into gear and moved forward but was locked into about fourth gear. i travelled 15 miles to the nearest chysler/jeep dealership for service. the dealership recalibrated the transmission. on may 29 and may 30 the parking brake and engine icon appeared on the dash and when i shifted the vehicle into gear it would not go out of gear because the parking brake was on. i pressed and released the parking gear several times and then it would go into park and i could shut the engine off. this happened several times in my garage. i called chrysler/jeep on june 5th at about 40,000 miles and had the vehicle towed to the closest dealership (where i had taken it before). the dealership replaced the transmission module. two different times since the module was replaced there have been icons appear on the dash. i turn the vehicle off and on and the icons eventually disappear. the transmission is slow to engage after backing up and sluggish to shift when slowing to a stop and then moving forward.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. while at the dealer, the instrument cluster, body control module, and transmission software were being updated on the vehicle. the contact stated that after leaving the dealer while driving at low speeds, the vehicle failed to down shift to second and first gear preventing the vehicle from accelerating. the failure recurred numerous times. the vehicle was taken to another dealer, where the technician diagnosed that the transmission needed to be updated. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 12,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. while attempting to accelerate, the vehicle failed to move without warning. the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the technician stated that the transmission needed to be reflashed. after performing the reflash, the transmission was deemed defective and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred shortly after. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission failed and needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 9,200. updated 11/23/15*lj *cn
Vehicle transmission kicks when accelerating, or decelerating. in particular, it kicks when coming to a stop and if you do not keep your distance from other vehicles it could lead to rear ending other vehicles or driving through a wall trying to park the vehicle in the garage.
Jeep cherokee sport , car shut off while driving . pulled over to side of road , attempt restart , car started on 2nd attempt. transmission on vehicle , shifts poorly rpms , stick on acceleration and when attempting to merge into traffic , car downshifts . could cause accident by someone running into car . *tr
On my way to work on march 16th when my service park brake message came across my screen along with my check engine light and park brake light. about 10 seconds later the service transmission message was displayed. i had no power when i pressed on the gas. i was lucky enough to be in a residential area still and coasted into someone's driveway. i put it in park. when i put it in reverse it shifted hard with a loud thud. it literally sounded like the engine dropped out of the jeep. i still didn't have any gas power so i put it back into park with another hard shift and loud thud. i turned the jeep off and back on. i had gas power and it no longer shifted hard but my engine light was still on. took it in for service the next day. of course they couldn't duplicate the condition with several test drives so they chalked it up to a software update recall "occupant restraint control module". fast forward 11 days later, the exact same thing happens. lost power in gas pedal, service park brake message across screen, changes to service transmission, the engine light, parking brake light and now the traction light all on. when i put it in park then reverse extremely loud and hard thud. then another message came across the screen, shift to p then desired gear. put it back into park with a loud, hard thud. turned off jeep then back on. got power back in gas pedal and was able to get it home. taking it in first thing monday morning (3/30) for the exact same issue as almost 2 weeks ago. after reading all the complaints on this site and others, it doesn't sound too promising. i bought this jeep brand new in nov 2013. and this will be the 4th time its been in for service. the previous two were for a crack in the transmission case causing it to leak transmission fluid (3/3/14) and for a faulty internal controller in my shifter (5/16/14). *tr
The car hesitates when i step on the gas. where i live, i have to pull out on main street which is a 3 lane road. i have to find a break in the traffic and pull out quickly. i have almost been hit a coupe of times because the car did not respond when i put my foot on the gas. it will go but very slowly and then kick in a few seconds later causing the car to jolt. this happens very inconsistently. it could happen in the morning for 2 weeks and then not do it for another 2 weeks. i have brought it in to the dealer but of course, it never will do it for them.
Vehicle suddendly stalls, check engine light came on and a message that says service transmission, press parking brake, when started the vehicle and put it in reverse a big noise was heard from under the car this happened 3 times. i dont feel safe taking my family in this car that can stall in the middle of a highway, and can cause a big accident. *tr
Even after the required recall work and transmission software update, the jeep is sometimes not responding to acceleration for a few seconds, and once it does, it violently jerks forward. my family was almost t-boned due to the lack of acceleration. this does not just occur at lower speeds, i have had it happen on the interstate and while traveling on 45mph roads. the transmission also fails to downshift when going up a hill. after the software update and when hen the car is in the first two gears and you turn the steering wheel, there is now a noticeable "grinding" coming from around the right front wheel. i have had the car in and out of the shop for a few transmission issues, even when it was a brand new car. i worry for ours and other's safety while driving this car and i shouldn't have to. *tr
9 speed transmission started having hard up and down shifts at around 10k miles (march 2015). this was near time the fca issued a service bulletin on tcm and pcm for known software control problems with transmission. sw updates were performed, yet transmission continued to shift erratically. problem then developed into lurching during stops and hesitation when attempting to move. the hesitation presents serious concern as the ability to enter traffic or merge becomes difficult and dangerous if the transmission refuses to engage. took back to dealership in june. multiple attempts with sw updates. fca ultimately decided to replace entire transmission. it had 13.8k miles on it. a month later it is shifting hard and lugging again. back at dealership. not clear what fca with do/offer now, as they don't seem to know what is wrong.
The odometer screen popped up several messages: acc/fcw unavailable service required; then a red battery image and low voltage message; and the transmission was locked in d3. after turning it off for 30 minutes it self corrected but a small red battery icon remained lit on the odometer screen. *tr
Vehicle transmission first failed in driveway at start up at 13773 miles at 10 months. transmission "service transmission" error appeared with blinking "p" and would not engage. towed to dealer. error code reset overnight and dealer could not read the code. dealer performed a software update to the transmission control module. transmission was not shifting smoothly on drive home. second transmission failure occurred on next morning after pickup on 3/25 and 11 miles. transmission "service transmission" error appeared again with blinking "p". transmission could engage drive gear with a severe lurch. service tech was able to read a failure code. chrysler service tech found problem with plug connector on transmission control module and did another software update to transmission control module as first update was not done initially per the correct procedure. transmission was able to shift smoothly upon repair. third transmission failure occurred on 5/4 with 18543 miles while vehicle was on the highway at highway speed of 45 mph approaching intersection for left turn. vehicle transmission "service transmission" error code appeared and transmission shifted into neutral with blinking "d" and lost power. unable to drive thru intersection. had to coast to stop. transmission lurched into park. turned vehicle off and back on. transmission was able to lurch into drive and drove across intersection to park in safe area. transmission was able to shift into and out of gear but was very jerky with mechanical clunk. this failure is of serious safety concern due to motion was unable to continue with vehicle in congested intersection. vehicle is currently undergoing evaluation to determine course of action by chrysler. case number assigned.
After a complete stop at a stop sign, "service transmission" message appeared on the speedometer, check engine light turned on, car was beeping all over the place, and could not accelerate after stepping on the gas pedal 3 times. i had to turn off the car and restart the car on the spot. after restarting the car, engine light stayed on and i was able to drive home. prior to this incident the check engine light has been on and off for about a few months since i purchased the vehicle on november of 2013. seems like other jeep cherokee owners are also experiencing similar problems if not more serious and fatal. several complaints found on this forum (http://www.aboutautomobile.com/complaint/2014/jeep/cherokee/power+train) regarding the issue reported that their vehicles lost power on the highway. other even had trouble with their gears. also the car would accelerate a little more even the driver had let go of the gas. this is definitely a serious problem and needs to be addressed and investigated immediately before someone gets hurt or even killed. *tr
When accelerating from stop or slow speed, the vehicle lunges, will not shift, shifts very hard to the point of loosing traction to the drive wheels. various slow speeds city and highway on ramp get the same effect.
70 mph on interstate hwy, suddenly emergency brake comes on. car immediately brakes to 35 mph before car can be moved to emergency lane. mil light is on, emergency brake light is on, transmission gear light is flashing, screen command says "park the car, service transmission and parking brake". emergency brake light on console is off. ignition turned on and off 6-8 times, try to drive, car won't move. cycling ignition and transmission shifter car suddenly starts working normally except for mil light. scan revels no codes. car runs fine for two weeks and again at 70 mph on interstate the emergency brake comes almost stopping the car in slow lane. repeated the procedure referenced above for about 5 minutes until the car started running normally. mil was on for 50 miles but no codes stored or freeze frame. this occurred 5 days after having recall r05 performed, rrt 14-040, and pcm update. *tr
Text of letter sent to jeep/chrysler on 08/21/2015. earlier this year i began experiencing poor performance from the transmission in the jeep i purchased in late december. shortly after this began i received a recall notice regarding the software governing the transmission. after having this, and an airbag recall, addressed the issue got worse. again taking it in, the dealer confirmed the existence of the poor performance. however, they had no solution stating that it was a software issue, chrysler is aware of the problem but has no fix. this transmission defect is causing driving problems and unsafe conditions. i can not rely on the vehicle to accelerate at any time. even driving with extreme caution, i have been left in several unsafe situations when merging on the freeway or entering traffic. i have now needed to avoid left turns across traffic. i like the car in general and i am asked about it often. unfortunately, i am beyond disappointed with this problem and have stated this to everyone who asks about the vehicle. i had not bought a brand new car for several years and only did so with the belief that i would be avoiding car problems. i would like to know how chrysler intends to resolve this issue and more importantly when. i have copied this letter to the washington state consumer protection bureau and the nthsa.
