We have classified the 977 complaints from 2014 Jeep Cherokee about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
I have reported three earlier incidents regarding this issue. i have taken this up with gm. they have attempted to fix this 3 previous times. on 9/22/215 the service department replaced part 68214620ab. i was going to an event an hour away on october 17, 2015. i was attempting to pass another vehicle on a two lane highway. the speed limit was 75 and the car in front of me was going about 70. when we reached a passing lane, i attempted to pass going about 80 miles an hour. as i pulled even with the other car, the transmission down shifted and the engine red lined when i pressed the pedal to the floor. the engine roared and did not return to normal rpm until i took my foot off the pedal. this is unacceptable. i was running out of passing lane. fortunately there was no on coming traffic. i continue to be afraid to drive this car in highway traffic as there is no predicting when it will shift or how it will respond to changes in speed. i have not drivin it very much since the "repair" on 09/22/15 for this reason.
The electronic transmission constantly slips or has a delayed engagement coming off a full stop or at low speeds. when accelerating from a stop to say make a left turn the transmission has a significant delay prior to engagement which puts the car and the driver (me) at risk of a collision. i have taken to avoiding passing or initiating a turn without significant clearance from traffic as i fear getting into an accident. the car dealership service team says they can't do anything and virtually every other owner of a cherokee complains about the same issue. i know jeep delayed the launch of the car due to the transmission issues and believe they knew and know there is an issue and subjecting drivers to avoidable risk and injury, or worse. the issue happens every time i drive the car, not just a single event.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. on several occasions, while driving, the vehicle stalled and the check engine indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to bob brady auto mall (4025 e boyd rd, decatur, il 62521, (217) 876-3800) where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. the transmission was replaced; however, the failure recurred several times. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that a transmission specialist would be sent out. the failure mileage was unavailable.
The car when driving shift.s like to second gear.
My car has the following problems: it jumps when i remove my foot from the pedal right after i start my car. it self accelerate while i'm driving. jerks forward when i first start driving the car sudden unintended acceleration.
Was driving in very busy town, luckily turning into a parking lot, jeep had lost all power, and was showing engine light, etc light flashing, and traction control was shut off. got the jeep running again about 15 minutes later, auto zone was next door but they could not read the codes. had to drive an hour to the closest dealership. was told there was a recall that needed to be updated, was told to drive it so many miles to reset everything, then sent back on my way. the next day i was putting the required miles on it, it left me stranded on the side of highway with young child, got it to start again and made it back to park it the rest of the day. next morning drove 1/4 mile down road and it had lost all power again. called dealership to let them know i was bringing it back, jeep would not go past 3rd gear, almost hit multiple times trying to get off the road. got to dealership, they told me it is un-driveable after driving over an hour to get there, they had jeep almost 3 weeks. mileage was around 18,000. would need to replace transmission, when they finally called to say it was ready, i was told it was bc it needed an oil change...with only 3500 miles on this change(feb2015-march2015). now(oct2015) jeep shows engine, etc, traction control, after turning at light in neighborhood. took jeep to new dealership, could not recreate problem, 3 days for diagnosis.
Mileage 26,000+ transmission failed while driving on the highway this morning. revs went very high but couldn't generate speed to keep up with traffic (check engine light came on)...car didn't move past 2nd gear. having read all the complaints about transmission issues cause by the lack of "mature" software as cited by fiat chrysler ceo sergio marchionne, i'm wondering why the vehicle hasn't been recalled to prevent a potential dangerous event from occurring. i was lucky i could get off the highway this morning and get to a dealership close by. at this stage - the vehicles has had a recall for the radio r40), wipers, liftgate.. what else mr. marchionne... do they right thing for your consumers and recall the vehicles who are as you say lacking "mature" programming. navigation system not working either. i am seriously considering trading this in for a non chrysler car.
9 speed auto trans recalled for software update performed by dealer. trans continually searching for lower gears and when finds gear will shift hard and lurch forward at times breaking traction with sudden acceleration. higher gears will not downshift with engine lugging in 7th gear at 40-42 mph. the software recall done by dealer made shifting worse. last trip to dealer with trans complaints resulted in dealer saying nothing will help and that chrysler considering trans replacement on all 2014 cherokees. could not provide any time frame on repairs for obviously defective transmission which is a danger when vehicle lunges forward in lower gears. is this defect being addressed by chrysler? on-going and continuous problem and defect.
Hard shifts, lunging, malfunctioning light illumination, and unexpected disengagement. it completely went out on me. i was driving home from work and the car kept dragging and when it shifted, it was a very hard shift. and when i try to stop, it lunges forward. these particular things have been going on for awhile. however in this particular instance, it completely went out on me.luckily i was in front of my house and was going to back up in the driveway and the transmission went out on me.
Vehicle fails to shift properly and stalls upon acceleration from complete stops, driving on highway and normal roads. issue started 7 months after purchase at 8,573 miles. jeep taken to dealer on march 10, 2015, who reprogrammed transmission & power train modules & reprogrammed restraint control module. 5/15 - jeep was making clunking noise and grinding noises - rear differential was replaced at 14k miles; 5/27 - jeep still made grinding noise when placed into gear - power transfer unit & skid plate replaced as tech found fluid had leaked into ptu causing internal damage. 7/7 - jeep still not shifting properly, rpms rev to 5 & 6k before shifting. slow acceleration has almost caused multiple crashes!! dealer reprogrammed transmission control module. 10/2/15 - lift gate won't open with fob or by hand & won't lock when closed manually - open recall with no remedy avail, i was told not to use it until fixed. dealer has no eta for the fix and this issue can cause fire!! shifting is still an issue, dealer claimed they were unable to reproduce the issue yet the check in & out mileage remained unchanged at 20,635. the parking sensors go off in drive thru's, yet another issue they can't reproduce. i do not feel safe driving this vehicle which is needed for work!!! i attempted to trade it in but past service issues have depreciated it's value to the point of no return!
This is an update to a previously made claim (10761069). to summarize, after 4 failed attempts to have my transmission repaired in september, 2015 the transmission completely failed. the transmission was replaced and it is still driving very similar to the old transmission prior to failure. there is a large lag between pressing the gas pedal and acceleration. this is alarming when entering traffic. also, there are many hard shifts as it moves through the gears. this is a major safety concern for my family and the quality of this vehicle is suspect. i have started the arbitration process and warn other consumers to consider issues prior to purchase.
Jeep has loss of power between 0-5 mph; 25-35 mph and 55-65 mph. after more than 3 dealership visits and flash module and software updates the vehicle has gotten progressively worse with loss of power and now uneven shifting including jerking when shifting. if you press the gas pedal down there is a delay before the vehicle goes. i have had these issues from the get go 3k miles and now have 8.5k on it with no fixes or end in sight. fca has had little to no communication with me up to this point and am still waiting on a call back from them.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee latitude. while driving approximately 15 mph, the vehicle stalled. prior to the failure, the battery and check engine warning light illuminated. after the third attempt, the vehicle was able to start. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission module needed to be updated. the approximate failure mileage was 30,946...updated 02/01/16 *bf *js
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. the vehicle was included in and repaired per nhtsa campaign number: 16v529000 (power train). the computer was reprogrammed. the vehicle did not receive a part replacement because the dealer stated that it was unnecessary. the contact stated that the vehicle continued to fail. the vehicle hesitated and stalled without warning while driving various speeds. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vin was invalid. the approximate failure mileage was 56,926.
A couple days after purchasing the vehicle, was rounding a turn, going uphill, and accelerated. at that point, the car wobbled violently. upon arriving home, i checked the tire pressure and found all to be around 48#. since the tires had been inflated with nitrogen at the dealer i went there and was told by the service department that the over-inflation was most likely the cause. the "tire technician" took a few pounds out of each tire and pretty much said if the trouble light is not lit, the pressures are fine. when i got home, i checked the pressures and compared with the tpms display. none of the tires had the same pressure and all over 40#. i adjusted the pressures of the tires to the pressure stated on the tire sticker on the door jamb. i continued to experience a wobbling and the service department said there are no known issues. i agreed to document when this is happening and under which conditions. i experienced intermittent, but frequent wobbling upon acceleration between 10 and 20 mph usually in second gear. on nov 2, the dealer confirmed the wobbling and stated that jeep does not have a fix at this time. they have a problem where the front axles do not have enough slop to take left/right movements of engine and bottoms out on axle shafts. should be february. when i checked in march, i was told jeep revised date to be 3q 2015. sep 29, i was now told 4q 2015. i then contacted fca customer service to go beyond the dealer find out facts from the manufacturer. the rep said that she would contact the dealer for their input while i held on the phone. she got back on the phone and simply said that there is no eta for the fix and to continue checking back with the dealer or go to another dealer and see if they can find something else wrong. no fix after all this time, that's terrible. the fca rep mishandling my concern, in my opinion is as bad.
While driving around the city of sf, i started to here a grinding noise. there are two thing that would stop it. first, would be an actually stop the vehicle when doing so it made a hard downshift noise and crunch. second would be using the manual override on the transmission gear shift and shift the gears. also while driving on the highway at 50 mph getting onto the bay bridge i hear a slight grinding noise that would only last for a few hundred feet.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign numbers: 15v509000 (visibility) and 16v529000 (power train) however, the parts to do the repairs were unavailable. the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repairs. the manufacturer was not notified of the issue. the contact had not experienced a failure. part distribution disconnect.
While at the dealership for a routine oil change,i was told that my transmission had a fluid leak. the entire under side of the vehicle was covered with transmission fluid! there was no warning, no lights and no messages! i was told the entire transmission had to be replaced!
Model:2014 jeep cherokee latitude 2.4 liters. months old: 13 first failure: "the transmission kicked back as if in reverse". the failure mileage was 8293. it was in school zone area. the traffic was slow. stop and go. at one point, when the traffic started moving the driver (my wife) released the brake and slightly pressed the gas pedal with her foot, the vehicle all of sudden accelerated backward. the vehicle behind started honking at her. she was able to hit the brake, just inches before she hit the front end of that vehicle. the check engine light illuminated and a long message appeared, only momentarily on the dash screen which indicated (something about) "brake" and "service transmission". in a panic, my wife could not recall the whole message. someone at that dealership told me he has seen this problem before on 2.4 l jeep cherokees. after 2 days troubleshooting, jeep dealer installed "new software in bcm", the latest software version (i was told) and told me the vehicle was now fixed, should be safe to drive. (please note: fca recall ro1: reprogram tcm and pcm had been perform on 04/17/15). second failure: "same problem as the first failure and transmission stalled while on drive". the failure mileage was 8373. two days after the first failure was "fixed". while puling into the driveway at very low speed with a 3 years old sleeping baby in the rear car seat. still in the middle of the street, the vehicle jerked and the driver (it was me) felt like it was trying to move as if in reverse, then the transmission stalled as if in neutral. i pressed the gas pedal a few times but the vehicle failed to move. same indications flashed on the dash screen as the first occurrence. i had the vehicle towed to the dealership on that saturday afternoon. in both occurrences, no one was hurt, no accident but it could be much worse.
I have had the transmission replace by jeep yet the transmission still continue to do hard shifts, lunging, unexpected disengagement of the transmission. i have not able to move out of the way in emergency. if the gas is pressed, the engine lags and over revs but goes no where. then it will jump forwarded. i keep taking the vehicle back to jeep and but keep being told the engine works as designed.
2014 jeep cherokee. service transmission message comes on screen, transmission make loud noise, engine shuts down. hard to control vehicle. almost crashed. dealer says transmission faulty. second time this happened
The transmission in the 2014 and 2015 jeep was the first to use 9-speed. it creates a rough change in gears, often times stalling while trying to accelerate (incredibly dangerous), and creating a bumpy ride. the software "fix" recommended by jeep does nothing to fix the issue.
1st incident- 9/1/15- driving in interstate traffic when w/o warning jeep lost power, immediately slowed as if it dropped gears and went into neutral, "service parking brake" message flashed and said to put in park/turn car off/restart. other emergency warnings appeared: check engine, stability traction, service transmission. jeep had no power and was hard to steer. i was in far lane and able to coast to shoulder. turned car off/on. said "service transmission". tried to drive but parking brake was still locked. had towed to dodge service dept. 9/3 diagnosis- "code u042 error causing service parking brake message and transmission to go limp". told it was reprogrammed and problem fixed. 2nd incident- 9/4- driving on country road in school traffic when same exact problem occurred.there was no where to coast/pull over. turned car off/on. service transmission warning light was on but attempted to drive to move car out of traffic. shut down 5 more times w/ loud clunks as if transmission was going to drop out before able to safely park. nearly caused school bus accident! had towed to dodge. star case opened. in service dept for 14 days. replaced "body control module" but couldn't get it reconfigured and had to "write" into dodge to find out how to fix it. 9/17 diagnosis- "internal bcm failure caused active u0140- lost communication w/ bcm dtc in electric park brake module; test confirmed bcm failed causing false activation of park brake. i expressed concern of recurrence and my safety based on history of complaints but was assured it was fixed. 3rd incident- 9/21 in rush hour traffic again! how many times do i have to risk my family's lives before they recall/replace this death trap! jeep still in service dept and they have now ordered a valve body, transmission range sensor, transmission fluid and electric parking brake control module. please help before someone is killed!
Episode one: while driving up hill at about 30 miles and hour car jerked into neutral, instrument cluster flashed engine light warning, transmission light warning, parking break warning, traction control warning and flashed "service transmission" and service parking brake". operator restarted car three times before transmission would engage. this cleared all warnings except "check engine" light. car was driven to dealer where without documentation they stated that they flashed the transmission control module and then car was returned to owner. second episode: on sept 3, 2015 operator was driving about 55 miles per hour when suddenly with a jerk the car shifted into neutral and the car jerked into neutral, instrument cluster flashed engine light warning, transmission light warning, parking break warning, traction control warning and flashed "service transmission" and service parking brake". . operator was able to pull over to the side where he restarted the car about 4 times before transmission would engage. then about 10 miles further on the road, coming up to a stop sign the same behavior reoccurred. car was delivered to dealer on 9-03-2015 and their service report of 9-04-2015 indicates that they flashed tcm, bcm, ipc and r40 recall. episode three: september 6 2015 operator was driving car up to stop sign car jerked into neutral, instrument cluster flashed engine light warning, transmission light warning, parking break warning, traction control warning and flashed "service transmission" and service parking brake". from that point to the dealer operator noted that the engine rpm maintained at about 3000rpm instead of fluctuating normally as with normal driving.
August 24, 2015: this can be considered an update to report tracking # 10758562. we were taking our 2014 jeep cherokee latitude to the a dealership for service, due to the events reported in #10758562. we were on i-95 when the engine light/service transmission message illuminated. highway speed and performance were not affected, but when we left the highway and were in a stretch of road with traffic lights, acceleration was very sluggish, as in the prior incidents reported in #10758562. no gas had been added since friday morning (8/21), and the jeep was not driven on saturday or sunday. it had been driven 2-3 miles on local streets on the morning of 8/24, without incident. the 8/24 incident means that on the last 4 days the jeep has been driven, there has been an incident each day, involving transmission freeze and/or loss of acceleration.
I was exiting a highway and had slowed down to a near stop. when i tried to accelerate, the car wouldn't move and then lunged forward. i nearly crashed into the car in front of me. issues with the transmission of this vehicle have persisted since i first picked the car up in march of 2014. it has been back to the dealership eight times, with five updates being performed, no to avail. the vehicle is unsafe.
Vehicle stutters and bucks when accelerating. feels like it cannot get power and it may stall out
Was driving home and check transmission and motor lights came on. we pulled over stopped car and turned on and could drive home. next day with kids in heavy traffic, car just coasted and all lights went on, kids were scared and almost hit by a truck as we pulled over to curve. restarted car and could drive home but the transmission was jerky. next morning took to dealer and they found all the faults i reported. they said communication problem and cleaned all leads and said if happend again they would have to contact chrystler direct. next morning, lights came back on check transmission and pulling out of my garage, almost slammed me into a wall changing gears. dealer confirmed problem in transmission and ordered a new one under guarantee. i am without a car for at least 3 weeks and dealer said if i had gotten the extended guarantee would have gotten reinbursed for an auto rental after 5 business days of not having car. really concerned about safety and everyone is fortunate no fatalities yet due to a defective 9 speed transmission design. my car was fine until they did a software update to deal with transmission complains. really supprised usa government has not recalled the transmission or allow family car owners like myself who thought this jeep was safe with good gas milage to exchange cars or sell back. have to wait and see if new transmission works or simply replacing one poorly designed part with hanother. actually liked the car, just now concerned with my family safety.
While driving an approx. 10 hour trip from colorado to texas vehicle began experiencing problems. halfway into the trip the check engine light came on after stopping to get fuel. few miles later the transmission notification appeared and the shifter started blinking while in drive. came to a stop at a stop sign and the vehicle had problems downshifting in order to brake. braking took longer than usual. car rolled backwards when taking off from that same stop sign. lower gears had a hard time shifting. rpms unusually high at speeds over 60. car accelerated on its own multiple times. car would not allow any dash functions when the transmission temp would go above 200. pulled over several times to let the engine cool. restarted car after auto braking feature prevented driving in reverse. car had trouble driving uphill. no word from dealership but this is the 2nd time in 4 months car has been in the shop. first time was a check engine light having to do with the oil components. i am truly concerned for the safety of my children. when will this problem be taken seriously? when someone dies??
While leaving the neighborhood my wife's jeep transmission failed. the entire dashboard lit up like a christmas tree and stated 'service transmission immediately'. she was driving at 30 mph and the transmission went into 'neutral' and she drifted off to the right turn lane. this is the second transmission that has failed in this suv in 18 months of ownership. we don't feel that jeep can adequately fix the transmission to a level where i would ever feel safe putting anyone in the suv again.
The car did not accelerate when peddle was pushed (in heavy traffic) then jumped suddenly to accelerate into oncoming traffic. this vehicle has had complete valve body failure in less than 3,000 miles and numerous updates to the computer because of uneven shifting and acceleration. the latest update seemed to work better for a few weeks and now is worse than previously. the chrysler dealer (ron carter alvin texas) refuses to return my calls for service or to set a service date.
With our 2014 jeep cherokee 4cyl. we were close to a horrible collision. we were merging onto a major highway when the suv lost power when accelerating and the transmission disengaged. we were nearly sideswiped by a semi!!!!! when giving the suv gas, it downshifted to accelerate and then all of a sudden disengaged and the suv felt like it halted forward slowing down to 15mph. it seemed as if the engine and transmission were not communicating correctly. if the gas pedal was softly pressed the suv would accelerate, however, if the gas pedal was pressed down further, the transmission was just gone! this continued to happen until the car was power cycled off. this is a major safety concern. brought it to the dealership and they couldn't find anything wrong. i am so scared to drive this suv now. please investigate and have a safety update soon!!!!
August 13, 2015: stopped at traffic light, in construction zone. light changed to green, bikers on side of road, so was going very slow. engine light/service transmission message came on and transmission froze in second gear. pulled over, turned off jeep, restarted, continued trip with no further incidents. august 15, 2015: slowed for construction on a 2-lane (paved) rural highway. engine light came on, and jeep had poor acceleration. continued driving and gained speed. august 19, 2015: in a line of traffic on 2-lane rural (paved) highway. speed about 45mph. engine light/service transmission message came on. transmission froze in gear, with very poor acceleration. pulled over, turned of jeep, restarted, finished remaining 25 miles to destination with no other incident. august 20, 2015: on highway12n to get onto new york state thruway. speed 45-50mph. engine light/service transmission message came on. transmission froze in gear. very poor acceleration. pulled into thruway entry park & ride. turned off jeep, restarted, took jeep to local dealership. they did software upgrades and road-tested the jeep, between 8/20 and 8/21. they did not replace any parts. dealership did 14-15 mile roadtest. we stayed with family overnight. i picked it up the morning of 8/21/2015. august 21, 2015: stopped at cemetery on way back to family member's house. maybe 6 miles between dealership and family member's house. jeep idled for 2-3 minutes at one site, and 5-6 minutes at a second site. when i got back into jeep at the second site, the engine light/service transmission message was on. pulled out into roadway, and had very poor acceleration. pulled back into cemetery, turned off the jeep, restarted and drove to family member's house. we decided to try to take the nys thruway for the 250 mile trip back to our residence. no incidents along the way.
I have previously submitted a complaint but left out this incident. i was traveling on a highway at about 30 mph. the vehicle all of a sudden would not accelerate some icons appeared on the dash. i pulled over and waited a few minutes. i started the vehicle and resumed my travel. after starting and stopping a few times the icons disappeared.
Love my jeep except for various shifting and lurching problems.occasionally lurches when putting vehicle in gear forward or backward.latest problem was on accelerating or lack there of.i was at a light turning left.i realized a car coming at me was going pretty fast so i pressed hard on accelerator, rpm's shot up engine sound raced but car only crept forward then approx 1 second later it caught and i made the turn in time, barely.the transmission has gone from being a nuisance to very dangerous. could have been disastrous consequences.
In the wake of receiving my car back after transmission replacement (due to the car shutting down while driving), i turned it on the other day and all the lights on the gear shifter console lite up and stayed lite. i brought my car into jeep and was told that it was throwing a code, some kind of lost connection error but they have no idea why or how to fix it because it isnt doing it any more. this is the second time in 2 months that my car has been in the shop to fix an issue which jeep claims is an oddity to my vehicle and not a known issue.
When going down 6% or greater inclines while driving in the mountains, put the vehicle in 5th or 4th gear to slow it down, but if i touch the brake the car downshifts even further in which it actually speeds up before slowing down. can understand this if were i using cruise control, but not when i try to control the vehicle speed. liked the idea of being able to select a gear when descending a hill to provide some compression braking, but it should stay in that gear when i apply the brakes slightly. if applied very hard then should down shift to lower gears.
Backed out of driveway then warning light/symbol and tone came on that the 4 wheel drive system was unavailable and service required, service airbag warning came on as well as service parking brake, limped back into driveway barely. turned vehicle off restarted still getting warnings and tried to move vehicle motor revved but vehicle didn't move forward or reverse. got another warning to put vehicle into park then select gear. currently waiting for tow truck. jeep won't move in drive or reverse now. suspect transmission issue.
Vehicle often lunges/shifts hard, but, last week, i was driving and the acceleration just seemed to stop. i put the car in neutral and back into drive and it resolved the issue. but, i did considered pulling off of the road. going for r05 recall service next week and will get this problem looked at - at that time.
A list of the current life threatening and non life threatening conditions i have encountered with my jeep cherokee trailhawk. the most serious being a persistent problem in relation to the transmission shifting and accelerating causing the car to jerk and in some cases whiplash. as an electrical engineer i have seen the electronic repairs made to the vehicle and yet there is still persistent mechanical problems with this transmission. i have encountered lint mode were the car will not move from gears 1, 2, or 3 on 65mph highway which i believe has caused irreversible damage to the car. the issue occurred in july on route 202 in a cattle shoot created by summer time road work i had to continue to drive the vehicle nearly 2 miles until i was able to pull over and asses the issue. below is a list of current and past problems: -transmission stopped on a 65mph highway (new software loaded still a problem) -shifter locked in drive couldn't shift to neutral took 4 hours to shut car off at dealership (entire shifter replaced) - navigation (replaced two times, on my third nav system) - window motor mechanism (replaced) - moonroof shade and assembly (being replaced this week) -faulty wiring of cigarette lighter causing fuse to blow due to electrical short (rewired and fuse replaced) -speaker (replaced) -waterproofing trim falling off (replaced) -rattling from bolts for seat-belts (attempted fix didn't work) -o2 sensor causing multiple engine starts (replaced) -front seat uneven (replaced) -recalls ranging from hacking to electrical shorts that have been noted to cause a serious electrical fire
While driving on the freeway the vehicle disengaged the transmission leaving the car to coast with no power. engine still ran but when you tried to hit the gas the vehicle just coasted endangering the occupants. this is the 3rd time this has happened. the first two times my teenage son was driving on a narrow winding road. we have brought the vehicle into jeep and each time they say it is a software issue and they updated the software and said everything is fine. the third time happened while i was driving down the freeway disabling the vehicle. when you turn the vehicle off and then on again the transmission begins to work but gives you a service transmission error
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. the contact stated that the rpms increased independently and the vehicle felt rough while driving in third gear. in addition, the vehicle suddenly increased speed and the brake pedal was depressed with excessive force in order to decrease the vehicles speed. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission module needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired but the failure persisted. the vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign number: 15v509000 (visibility) but the recall remedy was not yet available. the contact felt that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the manufacturer was notified of the failures. the approximate failure mileage was 13,000. vin tool confirms parts not available.
I bought a pre-owned certified jeep cherokee 2014 from david's dodge, jeep, and chrysler last week monday, june 6th, 2015. i had a major issue occur a week later on the highway while traveling 65 mph the car loss traction control, 4 wheel drive, and the ability to accelerate. i was in a cattle shoot and had to coast the car down the highway to pull over. a service engine light along with warnings about the traction control and transmission were shown. i pulled to the side of the road and put the car in park which resulted in a hard jerk from moving the clutch from drive to park. i restarted the car and the car was idling at an abnormally high rpm. i put the car in drive and noticed a jerk once again when moving through the gears. the car also shifted very hard for about 45 more miles. i called the dealership who informed me that my car required an update to the transmission which was preformed that day. as an engineer i find it unacceptable that the dealership sold a car with the potential to crash on the highway due to negligence with regards ignoring a crucial update like the transmission. after the update to the transmission the car is shifting very hard from gear to gear and seems to be giving a shallow shift to 1st gear when the car is at a complete stop. monday, 13th, 2015, i have an appointment for two other issues a squeak in the rear passenger seat and an interference issue with the sirusxm. as an engineer it is obvious that there is a deep underlying problem with the 9 speed transmission i will be asking for the dealership to replace the transmission as the update was not effective causing rough shifting and a loss of acceleration in the shift from high to low gears.
Vehicle transmission failed (would not move) 7/5/2015. after two trips to the dealership, car went into shop 7/17/2015. car was returned 8/13 supposedly repaired. transmission failed 8/14 and dealer picked up car 8/15. to date, october 21, 2015, the vehicle remains at the dealership. the dealer told us that 1 in 10 of the 2014 transmissions had failed. a new transmission could not be located because they were going into new cars and the supply to repair the 2014 was low. chrysler has failed to comply with arkansas lemon law to repurchase the vehicle.
I was driving through town on 7/2/15 and all of a sudden the dashboard lit up and the car went into neutral, i was able to drift into a safe area. i turned the car off and waited 2 minutes, started the car, everything seemed ok except the check engine light was on. when i pulled away the trans would not go over 45 mph. i called dealer and they said to bring it in immediately. 5 days later they charged me $100 for a "flash" download to trans. i picked the car up and within 48 hours the same thing happened again (8 times in 1 day), they told me to bring it in, i did (asked for a loaner vehicle, they said they would have to charge me), they told me there were no recorded faults in the computer, a mechanic drove it home 2 days to get it to fail. 6 days later i picked it up after they installed a transmission control module at no charge. 24 hours later it happened again, i was able to drift into a safe area. i turned the car off and waited 2 minutes, started the car, everything seemed ok except the check engine light was on, as of yesterday the car is back in their shop and they told me they will call the factory again to see what they can do????? i'm a traveling salesman and i'm very concerned that this issue will cause an accident (if i can't drift into a safe area to "reset" the car) and i have developed no faith in jeep's ability to fix this problem! updated 09/17/15*lj updated 12/11/2017*cn
After repeated updates and several complaints to the service department of; the engine fan turning on often, the car lurching forward at start, and inconsistent idling the transmission now needs replaced. i was driving under regular conditions and my "check engine" light came on, took it to the dealer and they said the transmission needs to be replaced. (i should note that i am on vacation in florida, over a thousands miles from my home in chicago.) i have been waiting for the new transmission for over a week and they just added another week....updated 09/28/15 *bf updated 11/08/2017*cn
On an interstate highway, on a slight uphill incline at 70 miles per hour, surrounded by other traffic including semitrailers, the jeep abruptly lost forward power, acting like it has shifted into neutal. this loss of power was accompanied by flashing dashboard indications of transmission failure and by horrific clunking sounds and shudders from underneath. i was able to drift, miraculously, to the shoulder without being killed. eventually restarted and limped to a dealer. dealer kept jeep two days, said they replaced a "control module", and that it was fixed. not so. about thirty days later, and within a week of having the jeep checked over at a different dealer, it happened again, this time at about 25 mph in a residential area down a gentle decline. jeep had no suggestions for me other than tow it somewhere. lost a full workday messing around with them seeking a solution. now, days later, i have no communication from the dealer or from chrysler/jeep except an email saying that the dealer had discovered "codes". no word on what is wrong with this transmission, or whether jeep can actually fix it or merely keep towing it after it leaves me on the side of the road or gets me killed or worse. completely unreliable, unsafe, and apparently irreparable. chrysler/jeep needs to get this junk off the road before someone gets killed! updated 09/15/15*lj *cn

While in motion, the car stalled. the car would not then shift to any gear. after continuously trying to shift gears, the car would jump from park to drive. literally jump. i had to drive home (a few blocks) with my hazards on praying all the way. i called huntington beach jeep first thing in the morning. they towed the car to the service dept. i was told the transmission would be fixed. i tried to upgrade out of the shotty cherokee to a grand cherokee for safety reasons but the dealer would not forgive the negative equity in the car as we've had it for a year. he insisted we put more money down and have a car payment of $600-700 dollars. we refused. we feel jeep does not care about the safety but only the number of cars they sell each month which is a same. thank god we didn't have a car accident as they my family would be planning a funeral. maybe that is what it will take.
