We have classified the 777 complaints from 2010 Ford Fusion about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
While driving on the highway, my car suddenly slipped gears on its own and started to slow down and the wrench light was illuminated. i was nearly rear ended and i had my children in the car with me. i managed to make it to the emergency lane and at that point the car thrusted forward and jerked. i put it in park and turned it off and back on and light was gone. the next day while driving to work on highway again, same problem. i took it to local ford that evening only to get a phone call that they cant duplicate the problem. i told them of the numerous complaints i found online about this problem and that i didn't feel safe leaving the lot. they said they haven't heard of any complaints nor any tsbs on this car! i sent them a link to this website and told them to read it. currently they have not called me back with an answer. i bought this car with about 25,000 miles on it 3 months ago and currently i am at 29,700. i surely didn't expect to have a major issue like this. i own another ford which has lasted well over 200k miles but i have never been placed in danger with any vehicle like this. the dealership told me when the car does that it goes into limp mode for "safety' reasons. i don't see how safe that can be if you cause a pile up on the freeway. my question i am waiting to ask them is even if they drove my car and got the same issue, if the read out on machine doesn't tell them what's wrong, how are they to fix it? will they still say nothing was wrong because they computer can't duplicate it? or do they think i like being without a vehicle and wasting everyone's time? *tr
The transmission would seem like it would go into neutral between 1-2 shifts and also on the highway it would sometimes act the same in gear 6. the transmission was changed once by ford. reprogrammed 4-5 times, and multiple parts changed and still poor performance exist. this vehicle was purchased new from the same dealer that has serviced it and i would like to claim this as a lemon in the state of fl while still under the factory power train warranty. *tr
2010 ford fusion transmission slip. had software up date done diden't fix it. had valvabody replaced diden't fix it after the third attempt at a repair i wanted ford to replace the complete transmission they would not. they rebuilt it, it was better but not like i thought it should be. now it is making a noise again and the ford tech can't hear it. ford needs to make good on their product my fusion is about to be out of warrantee then what will i do i don't have money for a new transmission every 6mo. *tt
Transmission is acting very erratic. the transmission "flares" causing rpms to go up quickly regardless of throttle position. it also shudders while driving highway speeds, almost as if searching between gears while maintaining a steady speed. also, it shifts very roughly, comparable to an inexperienced driver operating a manual transmission, and these abrupt shifts cause the car to want to accelerate. i have heard reports of people having the transmission completely fail while cruising at highway speeds, and being a father of two little ones, want to see to it this problem gets fixed. ford denies there are any problems, yet a bit of research shows there are multiple lemon law suits against the 2010 ford fusion. i have not yet taken it to a dealership as i have heard there really is no solution to the problems, and those who have have not seen any improvement. in fact, many have reported complete transmission failure from the so-called "fixes". *tt
The transmission slams into reverse when cold, slips between gears, seems to pop into neutral, rpm shoots to over 4000, slams back into gear so hard you'd swear the car has been rear-ended. the "wrench" warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. the dealer performed tsb to replace the pcm computer--didn't help. the car did the same thing as i drove it home from the dealer. this is in no way a complaint about our dealer. this service department always gives us great service, and are willing to do anything they can to help us, but what are they supposed to do? they didn't design or build this monstrosity. they are in contact with ford factory engineers to try to solve this problem, but no answers are forthcoming. we are afraid to stray far from home with this fusion. if we can't just go anywhere we want with the car, what good is it to us? the internet is awash with horror stories about this defective transmission. this is a known issue. as of this writing, there are over 60 complaints on this nhtsa site about this exact problem. how many more are needed before the agency takes some action? *kb
Own a 2010 ford fusion se with 24v 3.0 v6 with 6 speed select shift transmission. when car was new, had hard shifts, and in mid 2010 ford issues a recall to reprogram these issues. after this repair, dealership stated they ran a load test and the transmission was fine. in late 2010, the hard shifts returned and the dealership "reprogrammed" the transmission. in late june 2011 while on a road trip, received a transmission/drive train code (the wrench symbol) but no noticeable issues. approximately one week later, started getting hard shifts. the next day, as i was pulling on a major road way, the transmission dropped out of gear, engine acted it was in neutral, and the car came to a complete stop. when i was able to get the car moving, it was revving poorly, shifting extremely hard, and had a terrible vibration. had the car at the dealership for two days, they had a very hard diagnosing the issue (even though the system sent codes). they reprogrammed the transmission, and said the issue was fixed. today, five days later, the issues returned, but worse. every time the vehicle was at a stop, as you would begin to accelerate, the car would shudder and rev to 7000 rpm. you have to completely let off the throttle, and once it would drop to about 1500 rpm, and the transmission would reengage. in gear 5 or 6 at speed, it would try and down shift and would kick out of gear and rev to close to red line. i was almost rear ended on several occasions today as i was trying to get the vehicle home. as i've researched the issue, this seems to be a common issue with several near accidents.
While driving on the interstate at about 55 mph, the vehicle lost all power and shut down with the wrench and check engine lights were on. steering was difficult and i almost was hit trying to get vehicle off of the road. after several minutes i tried restarting car and it started, so i made it to my destination and it died again. i had to have it towed to ford. the vehicle was under warranty and they replaced the throttle body assembly. vehicle still has loss of power issues and ford has not solved this issue. this is dangerous as vehicle just turns off at highway speed as this part fails. *js
The first time this issue happened was june of 2011. i was driving on the highway, the wrench light came on and my car stalled out and i could no longer accelerate. i took it to ford that day and they said it was the throttle body and they replaced it. now it's august of 2013 and i'm having the same exact issue again. the wrench light comes on and my vehicle stalls and i can't accelerate. i have to turn my car off, wait a few minutes, and turn it back on to continue driving and sometimes that doesn't fix it. when i contacted mullinax ford in apopka, fl they acknowledged there has been issues with that certain part and that they have the most updated version of the part that they said ford has fixed the deficiency with it. however, that part isn't covered under any warranty so i would have to pay almost $300 to have it replaced yet again. *tr
2010 ford fusion. consumer states issues with ford's g speed auto trans found in fusion 2010 model *tgw the consumer stated the transmission popped out of gear on four occasions while driving on the freeway. there was also a bearing noise coming from the vehicle and a throttle hesitation which the dealer couldn't identify. *jb
Initially took vehicle to dealer for transmission rough shifting. tech was unable to find cause and trouble report was left "open" since we wouldn't sign as satisfactorily completed. second incident was identical to first. years passed by as we learned to live with the rough shifting. more recently, on interstate highway, car lost power, would only accelerate to 50mph with rpm at 6,000. ford scanned, concluded transmission needs repaired soon. last evening, my wife was returning from work, the fusion quickly decelerated to 15-20 mph on open highway. a semi nearly struck her car from behind due to this quick change of speeds, which nearly caused several other collisions. local auto parts stated code causing engine light to illuminate is 'throttle body' problems, a code (warranty) 'missed' by the ford dealership. this car has lived an easy life, only 59k miles, very conservative driver and driven on level, paved, mostly interstate highways. the car was properly maintained and bought new from the lot. please help us, and the public who prefer to purchase american-made autos, to insure that the 'power down' mode of this transmission is addressed, and is a high priority item. additionally, please reconsider a recall on these transmissions. it is a very costly repair, and a very significant one to our modest income. a transmission failure at 59k miles is unacceptable.
I have a 2010 ford fusion that i bought in june 2009. since day one i have had transmission problem. transmission would slip going to second to third . upon hard acceleration like merging onto a highway the transmission would slip and the rpms would go to redline. the car would not move. this was a very dangerous situation. car was brought to dealer on 11/13/2009 and the dealer said it was a computer problem. they reprogrammed it. on 2/23/2010 car was brought back for same problemdealer replaced transmission. 6/2010 received a recall notice from ford saying there was a computer problem with the transmission. reprogrammed again. went back to the dealer numerous times after new transmission was installed with the same problems as mentioned before.on 5/24/2011 dealer rebuilt the new transmission. on 5/25/2011 complained to dealer saying i have the same problem.5/31/2011 car is back at dealer transmission will not shift. this car is extremely dangerous especially merging onto the highway. *tr
When driving along, the rpms shot up to over 4500 with no increase in speed or increase in pressure on the accelerator pedal. the cruise control was also on at the time. *tr
My vehicle lost acceleration while driving and shut off on me three times. the third and final time i was on a highway and almost got rear ended. i had the car towed and serviced at the nearest authorized ford dealer to find out i was out of warranty. paid for a throttle and it's installation left very scared and upset. *tr
I bought my 2010 ford fusion approximately 18 months ago, have had the transmission broken down, rebuilt reprogrammed and am now being told they can find nothing wrong with my car. however, seeing how i am the one who has narrowly escaped several highly dangerous collisions on both streets and highways i find it really hard to believe nothing is wrong with my transmission. while driving the transmission will get stuck while shifting from one gear to the next, usually but not limited to 2nd, 3rd & 4th gear and will sometime slip gears when transitioning from reverse to drive. i have taken my car in four times now and am continually told they can find nothing wrong with the transmission. these highly dangerous transmission misfires happen every day i drive my car, no matter the driving condition. *tr
Traveling at high speed with cruise control on. applied brake to slow down for traffic, vehicle continued to slow and would not respond when i applied the accelerator. i had to put the transmission in neutral and had to push gas pedal several times hard before engine would respond. this happened twice while traveling from florida to canada. i had the ford dealership in wetaskiwin, alberta, canada check the vehicle, they could find nothing wrong. i continue to drive the car, but i am fearful that, if it happens again, i could be rear-ended. *tr
Transmission still slipping from 2nd to 3rd gear after rebuild. this car is not safe. *tt
While traveling at highway speed on a 4-lane divided highway, a slow-moving vehicle merged in front of our fusion forcing a hard braking event (there was somebody coming up from behind in the left lane, preventing a lane change at that instant). the fusion was slowed down to 50-55 mph as the car from behind passed. this allowed a lane change to avoid hitting the car that pulled in front to begin with. however, in order to keep up with the flow of traffic, 100% accelerator pedal was required. as the fusion accelerated up to near the original speed, there was a whining sound coming from under the hood, then a violent jolt. this jolt severely shook the car, caused a sudden deceleration and to swerve on the highway. luckily, my wife was able to keep control of the car. the seat belt grabbed. had my wife not been wearing the seat belt, she is convinced that she would have been thrown into the steering wheel. the car was taken to a nearby ford dealership. no problems were found. (however, a fault code specific to hybrid vehicles was logged in the pcm memory.) this appears to be a continuation of the transmission problems this car has been experiencing since the day after i purchased the car in august, 2010 - and ford has been unable to correct. this vehicle has been into the ford dealer numerous times for transmission issues. the car is now at my local dealership.
Transmission slip into neutral and revs past 4000rpm, 1-2 & 2-3, also severe hesitation when slow down then try to speed up again (i.e. stop & go traffic). has put me in unsafe situations requiring defensive driving to avoid an accident. has been in for service 4+ times and each time only "calibration". service dept is very helpful but hindered by ford motor company's inability to solve defect. also, was given print out of ford advising service that the 2-3 hesitation is " deemed normal and it meets design intent at this time".100% unsafe to drive, especially with children in car as the gear slipping and or hesitation followed by suddenly engaging then speeding up puts the driver in unpredictable conditions. has put me in numerous near accidents (specifically when merging or changing lanes and yielding to turn left). most recent "fix" was 2/2/12 and transmission still slipping, hesitating, slamming into gear. have filed with bbb auto line. ford motor co. needs to seriously address this from safety standpoint. *kb *tr
Erratic shifting. slipping clutches. holds onto gears with no shift. acceleration hesitation. extreme at times. twice, while attempting to accelerate and merge onto expressway, the engine dropped to almost idle for over a second. when the engine did catch it went to red line so quickly had to let up on the accelerator. this further confused the trans. nearly got rear ended but was not only because of the quick reaction of the other drivers. software has been reloaded twice. not any better. ford keeps promising a fix is coming. been waiting over a year. *tr
We had a problem with a transmission leak early on due to a bad seal in the trans axle. it was replaced and all seemed well fro awhile. then we started to experience problems with the transmission "slipping" between 2nd and 3rd gears. took it to the dealership and they said it was a "computer problem" that need an update and that it should be ok now. it happened again at a later date. technician took it for a drive and then told my wife that there was nothing wrong, that is the way it's supposed to shift. at times it jerks really bad when shifting. not sure if the transmission problem can affect my fuel in-efficiency but, the car is far from the mileage advertised for this make. transmission problem is intermittent at this point. i'm afraid we are going to get pushed right through our warranty period, then that is when they will find the problem! we have insisted on a new transmission from the start, just to be stopped dead in our tracks with a flat refusal. hoping i can unload this car before something big happens. seems a shame that ford is the only automaker to keep it's head above water and not have to be bailed out. the sooner they admit they have a problem here and rectify it the better for everyone. if not, ford will join the others as a modern american failure! if you have any problem like this please post it right away! in the meantime, we are shopping for a nice solid japanese model. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact was braking from approximately 5 mph when the engine exhibited an abnormal increase in engine rpms and the transmission became unresponsive. the contact was able to resume driving yet the failure recurred intermittently. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was awaiting diagnosis of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 19,500.
Vehicle slips/hesitates when shifting from 1st to 2nd gear. transmission clutches were found 'burnt' and needed to be replaced. problem persists and now i am told this is 'normal' operation. in addition, my wheels are now vibrating/wobbling. i will need additional service. *tr
Tl-the driver owns a 2010 ford fusion. the driver stated the vehicle would shake violently while accelerating from a stop and rpms would also increase. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who stated the transmission needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileages were 20,400. sm.
From around 30000 miles on i have had a. n intermittent problem with trans. slipping between 2nd & 3rd? gears. mentioned it to rutherford at least twice, was told they could find nothing wrong. took car to desoto ford dealer while still under extended warr was told it might be dirt in valve body and if taken out and nothing found entire cost would have been on me. i have looked online and found numerous similar complaints. now trans is slipping very often. i feel this is a common problem and should have been taken care of under original factory warranty. the problem always occurred while driving.
I bought a slightly used (it was a dealer auto) 2010 ford fusion sel. since i first purchased in february 2010, i have experienced very jerky and uneven shifting. i even brought the car back after owning it for about 1 week, but the dealer monaco ford in ct talked me into keeping the car, saying that it is different type of engine (6 cylinder) than i was used to. but it felt wrong and always has. then, i got a recall notice in the mail or service notice notifying me of transmission problems with the make/model of my car. it came from ford and i was instructed to bring the car in for service. i did, but nothing changed. i learned to live with it, but over the past month, the car has become worse and worse - shifting has become so jerky that i experienced severe jolts and whiplash about 5 times. i brought the car in on march 7, 2011 and the transmission is damaged due to a broken front axle seal - i looked online and this seems to be related to the problems with my make/type of vehicle. i need help - i can't afford to keep a car that is not safe. the dealer told me it is not safe to drive and all reports i have read state that these problems are often not fixable - with one problem after another recurring with the transmissions in the affected vehicles. as i bought the car slightly used, i don't think i can sue through the lemon law. i need help! *tr
Transmission started going out after only two or three months of purchasing it. i couldn't believe it. ford dealership took care of it. *tr
At 18540 miles the transmission failed and the dealership had to rebuilt it and reprogram the pcm. then the car was taken back 5 months later with 30100 they had it a week but could not duplicate the problem. we then towed the car to alabama and less then a month later the transmission failed again at 31111 miles at this time it was in the shop 36day the car was pick up and drove 12 miles and the transmission failed again. the dealership then had it another 14 day. a month and a half later the transmission failed again, the dealership had it 3 days. we drove it 35 miles and the transmission failed again and the dealership had it another 17 days.then we had the car for a month and the transmission failed again with 36000 miles on it. the dealership had it for 16 days. ford corp has not allowed the dealership to replace the transmission, but has authorized them to rebuild and reprogram pcm numerous times. we have the car now and it is still not shifting right. we have talk to ford and they will not doing anything for us. told us the car is fixed....or is it. this car has become a safety hazard because you do not know when the transmission is going to fail in heavy traffic and create a dangerous condition. we fear for our safety when we drive this car.
I have had several issues with my 2010 ford fusion transmission sel v6. i've taken it to the dealership several times. they finally did a reprogram dec 09, 2010 with 8k miles. then complete transmission rebuild 2/15/11 with 11k miles on it. now i'm experiencing the same problems yet again at 16k. i have to take it right back to the dealership. they always tell me nothing is wrong. the trans has to adapt to my driving again. why is the car shutting off? transmission surging gears, not picking up, car bucking in the morning when going from park to drive. it's been terrible. i hate driving in rush hour because i never know what my car is going to do. every time i take it to the dealership they say nothing is wrong. i'm sick of paying $30 a day for repeated transmission issues. it's out of hand and unsafe. i have a toddler in my car. this is the whole reason i buy new cars...so that i never worry about being stranded and i feel safe with my baby in the car. this is the worst car i've ever owned. *tr
My throttle body went out in my car it would all of a sudden stop in traffic. *tr
I have a ford fusion with about 30000 miles. i first noticed a hard shift at 10k miles and thought maybe its just a simple fix. i took it in and they reprogrammed the transmission and the service supervisor said that this transmission adapts to the owners driving habits. well 3k miles later its worse so i take it back and the tech said all the clutches were replaced and two other things were done! i have taken it back four more times and have not had it fixed. it appears that ford admitted there was a problem with a transmission code that fixes the problem. however, the problem was not fixed and i am left with a vehicle that also had a window motor replaced, some pulleys that were making a whistling noise, and a battery and taillight that went out changed. i don't know if its a lemon, but i smell disaster in the next couple of years! wish ford would do the right thing and stand by its product. *tr
2010 fusion se l2.5l fwd-transmission leaks oil at the driver side half shaft seal. its zero out and & the grove box manual has no sub freezing procedure to check the atf. after 2 days of ownership i contacted ford service and they were unaware of any tsb's for this problem. after some googling i found 6 or so tsb's on this 6f35 transmission and many customer complaints chronicled in forums. even fords own fusion forum has more negative than positive about this transmission. fordfusionforum.com. *tr
This vehicle was recalled for a known transmission issue in june 2010. ford appears to have reprogrammed the computer to change shift points. shifting is smoother but still it does not perform like a normal ford transmission (i have driven fords since 1964). time out of service was one day. jan 20, 2011 while my wife was driving at approximately 55 mph, the transmission completely disengaged. there was no power and car had to coast to a stop on the side of the road. after sitting for the amount of time that was required for me to reach her i was able to drive the vehicle to the dealership about four miles away. the transaxle seal was leaking and fluid was low. the required parts were on backorder at ford and we had to wait for parts. the vehicle was returned on jan. 31, 2011 (11 days out of service). on feb.12, 2011, the vehicle was being driven by me at approximately 55 mph when the transmission again disengaged. i had to coast to the side of the road and call ford road service for a tow. i parked the vehicle and turned the ignition off. i tried to start the engine to record the mileage and the engine would not run, acting as if the timing was completely out of sync. it bucked and missed fired as if the timing was not correct (i had experienced this once before when starting the vehicle one morning in late sept. 2010 but had not experienced it since that time thought we had gotten some bas gasoline). on both occasions when the transmission has disengaged, the check engine, maintenance required and transmission service required was displayed on the dash by the computer but the dealer claims there was no error code recorded by the computer system. the transmission disengaged again ant highway on march 11, 2011. this is well documented on the web and will cause a death if ford does not correct the problem.
Transmission shifting problems in 2010 ford fusion, 4 cyl, 6 speed automatic transmission. transmission replaced at 12,000 miles by ford under warranty. vehicle now has 36,000 miles and shifts erratically on a random basis. typically vehicle must be driven at least 8 miles before problems occurs. common problem involves 1-2 shift and 2-3 shift. transmission will shift hard or will shift into neutral. ford diagnostic computers indicate transmission is operating properly. internet search reveals that this is a common problem. dangerous condition presented when vehicle driven in traffic, up hills, and when entering interstate system. *tr
Ford fusion 2010 - automatic transmission failure - can not trust this car to work properly - hard shifting - lurching forward - transmission tripping over itself like a 13 year old car at 1 month - 2 months acceleration problems - 3 months lurching forward and not moving when put into reverse - 6 months out of the blue violent shaking of the vehicle as if a wheel was about to fall off. at 6 months old that car is behaving mechanically worse than a 13 year old car - this car is unsafe - seriously thinking about dumping it back at the dealership as it is a lease. 31,000 km is when the violent shaking at higher speeds began (out of the blue). *ln
2010 ford fusion 6000 miles experiencing transmission shifting issues since 3000 miles. dealer says they don't notice anything and no tsb's but there are tons of web posts about defective transmissions and recalls noting the same issues, hard shifting , delays, etc. *tr
I am experiencing chronic shifting problems with the 6f35 transmission. this transmission suffers from slipping gears, shift flares, harsh shifting, and funny shifting that will be followed by an uncontrollable forward lurch. the dealership determined that my valve body failed at 3,744 miles and proceeded to replace the valve body and solenoid assembly. then at 4,526 miles i had the recall 10b15 powertrain control module reprogramming performed on my car. next, at 4,727 miles the dealer informed me that my car passed the transmission load test. at 9,181 miles the dealership verified my shift flaring problem. they reflashed my pcm with an updated software program. trans tech drove vehicle and the trans continued to flare. the dealer then removed my transmission and mounted to the bench for overhaul. the dealer discovered that my valve body had 3 melted bolts, my valve body was damaged, and that my clutches had burned out. the dealer proceeded to install a new valve body, forward clutch, overdrive clutch, piston, seals, and gaskets. at 9,702 miles my car returned to the dealership for shifting problems and poor overall transmission operation. i was told by the dealership that everything was normal at this time. i believe that i was told this because there are no more repairs available at this time. i am sick and tired of ford giving everyone the run around on these transmissions. they need to man up and let people know what is really going on. my transmission continues to experience shift flaring, violent downshift slams, erratic shifting, delayed shifting, forward lurches, and struggles on takeoff. with every repair attempt the overall performance of this transmission worsens every time. it shifts as though it was designed by a bunch of amateur's. i no longer feel safe driving my car due to the uncontrollable forward lurches and extended delayed shift where the car won't move for a few seconds. please fix this before someone gets killed or injured! *tr
2010 ford fusion transmission flares and hard shifts. have had the car in twice for the same problems including leaking trans fluid from the left front half-shaft. recently the wrench light cam on at the end of a 900 mile trip but went off a day later. i have had a half shaft, clutch, related seals and bushings (took 10 days to repair) replaced before the car reached 21,000 miles. there is a wide spread problem with eh 6f35 transmission used in multiple ford cars and trucks. ford covered the cost of repairs under warranty and only paid for a rental because i bought an extended warranty at purchase. ford is at a loss how to fix these 6f35 transmission problems and is deliberately vague when questioned. i spent $25,000 on this car and am worried about it's safety and durability. i think ford is hoping the warranty runs out before the transmission completely fails. the 6f35 transmissions need replaced. not more computer pcm flashes. i read that on some of the 6f35 transmissions had bore holes manufactured incorrectly. i think ford is trying to cover up this problems and trying cheap fixes that don't resolve the issue. owners all over the internet are having similar issues. *tr
I have a 2010 ford fusion with 13k miles on it, that has been providing me with tremendous amount of heartache. the vehicle will automatically slip into random gears while driving, even to the extent of shifting from 6 gear all the way down to 1st. i was driving down i-17 in arizona doing the speed limit of 75mph when for the second time it slipped all the way in to 1st gear. both times this occurred it nearly caused an accident because my speed decreased so suddenly i was almost rear end at 75mph. i am actually fearful for my wife, who primarily drives it, and my son safely. i have brought the vehicle in before and they can't find anything wrong with it, but yet there are numerous customers with the same complaint. a simple online search will reveal that. ford is aware of this problem, but individual dealers are only treating the symptoms and not actually fixing the problem. this has to be corrected before someone dies. *tr
Transmission slips between 2nd and 3rd gear every day when the engine is cold. three times has caused violent shaking of the vehicle. i was close to being t boned due to the slippage once as the car wouldn't continue on the proper acceleration path. *tr
I have a 2010 for fusion that was part of the transmission recall ,which has been taken care of. i have been experiencing slow delays of acceleration after pressing the gas pedal. twice i have experienced where my car won't shift out of gear. the last time i was on the highway and the rpm was stuck at 4 with a speed of 60. the car finally switched gears, but the car then raced forward. luckily no one was in front of me. i feel that this is a major safety risk for the owners of these cars. i have an appt scheduled on 12/13 with the dealer. *tr
Transmission had to be rebuilt around 20,000 miles. after it was rebuilt the car had no power so they reprogrammed it for the 6th time with the third different program. now drives worse than ever. routinely shifts between 5000 and 6000 rpm. gas mileage has decreased. i was told the new program is designed to make the car shift higher so the clutch doesn't burn out again. *tr
i was driving on a 6 or 8 lane freeway when it suddenly downshifted to a much lower gear (probably 3rd) and the tachometer maxed at 7000 rpm and held there until i manually moved the shift lever to neutral. when i put it back in drive (still moving) it again raced to 7000 rpm and i put it in neutral and coasted to the side of the road. i put it in all the gears, then in drive and went back on the freeway. it stayed in 1st gear and i again went to the shoulder of the road. i shut the engine off, restarted it and got back on the freeway. it shifted ok, but after a few miles did it again. i sent my complaint to ford motor company, but they say they can't duplicate the actions and therefore can not/will not do anything about it. (see ford customer service case #0506021830 and my letter to them)
No crashes or injuries yet! i drive a 2006 ford fusion>>> well driving down the highway while on cruise control the cruise control totally stops and it the speed when from 70 down to i don't know what right away.. the reason i don't know is because the odometer error came up causing the speedometer to stop working. and to add to the confusion... the starter stopped working... all this happened on the day my dad died leaving me without a car to see my family which live 200 miles away... *tr
On oct 24, 2010 while driving approximately 75-80 mph (left lane) of a major freeway, tachometer revved to 4,000 rpm and stuck there. vehicle rpm's would not go up or down and transmission appeared to be slipping in 6th gear. this incident occurred at 27,522 miles. managed to get car to side of road, where rpm's returned to normal for idling condition. at this point, the little "wrench" light appeared on the dash. the car was shut off and restarted in an attempt to reset the code. all appeared well, and i proceeded to re-enter the freeway. at approximately 27,533 miles (11 miles later), the vehicle experienced the same thing. please note that on june 14, 2010 the vehicle was taken to dealership and the "customer satisfaction program (program number 10b15) was performed on vehicle (mileage: 19,936 miles). as it appears that something is major wrong with this transmission, the vehicle was once again taken to the dealership (oct. 29, 2010: mileage: 27,760 miles) to have this issue re-evaluated. at this time, the dealership performed tsb 10-21-9. there was a noticeable difference in the shift quality of the vehicle. this same problem occurred again on dec. 1, 2010 (mileage: 30,138 miles) while driving 70 mph; the transmission appeared to slip and rpm's revved up to 4,000 rpm. the vehicle has not been taken back to the dealership at this time as problem is not reproducible and is unpredictable. this is a potential safety hazard as transmission could fail at any time while traveling on the freeway. *tr
This vehicle has been serviced nine times at dealer with symptoms of transmission slipping between 2nd and 3rd gear. it continues to do the same with harsh transmission engagements, slipping causing rpm's greater than 5000. a vehicle event recorder was installed into the vehicle and problem identified. valve body has been cleaned, new transmission solenoid, "re-flashed" 2 times with no changes. ford customer service involved from beginning. at one point received call from customer service district manager stating it is "normal" for the car to shift this way and there is no problem even after the problem has been identified. this continues to be a huge safety issue as the car slips at any time in any traffic. there has not been a solution to fix this problem nor any guarantee. something has to be done to fix the problem that affects many owners with this 6 speed automatic transmission. previous complaint odi 10369166.
Purchased a new 2010 ford fusion se, 4 cyl with 6 speed auto trans. transmission started slipping within 2 months of purchase. the car has been taken back to dealer 3 times. 10/12/10 at dealer-they stated they could not duplicate the problem. 2nd time 10/25/10 dropped car off at dealer. same problem, transmission slipping between 2nd and 3rd gear-safety issue with pulling out on busy streets. dealer performed "reinstall valve body codes and clear tcm. learn road test performed." they stated they could not duplicate the problem. end of november wife and kids in car and slipped between 2nd and 3rd gear on while on busy road-huge safety concern due to almost rear-ended. took car back to dealer on 11/29/10 with the same problem. dealer kept for several days but "could not duplicate the problem." i have contacted ford motor company several times and spoke with customer service. they have documented these complaints also. this is a major safety issue as this problem can happen at any time. i does not happen everyday, but the last time was on a busy road and could have been involved in an accident due to mechanical failure. *tr
Within two weeks of the april, 2010 purchase date, we noticed transmission problems in our 2010 ford fusion (6f35 transmission) on a cold start, namely rough shifting, transmission slipping, engine revving excessively but the car not accelerating, and the vehicle lurching forward before slamming into gear. normally, after the engine warms, the transmission smoothes out and we do not experience further problems that day. however, one episode, which recently occurred after we had driven the car continuously for 180 miles, leads us to believe that we simply cannot trust the vehicle to transport us safely. when we took off in heavy traffic after stopping for a red light, the transmission seemed to shift into neutral. after several seconds, the car slammed into gear. we were lucky to avoid being hit from the rear. the vehicle has been in for multiple transmission repair attempts--including pcm reprogramming, replacement of valve body, and rebuilding the transmission. on the last repair attempt, ford brought in a field service engineer who again "captured" the problem. yet the flaring continues. we can replicate it every day by driving the vehicle cold and accelerating normally from 0 to 55 mph on the first shifting sequence. we are convinced that a major design flaw exists in the transmission of the 2010 ford fusion. ford needs to address this serious safety issue immediately! *tr
My 2010 ford fusion sel is in the shop for the 4th time due to transmission issues. the first time was based on my observation that something was wrong with the reverse gear. the dealer could find nothing. then several weeks later we received a service bulletin that something needed to be reprogrammed to fix a reverse issue--surprise! 2nd visit to service. since then, the transmission has had hard shifts from 2nd to 3rd (around 25 mph) and sometimes it feels like the gears are slipping. was in shop for the 3rd time for 5 days but "they could not re-create the problem", car returned and the same problem has continued. today, the car stopped accelerating while on the road, started to idle roughly and "shudder" and then the wrench light came on. dealer claims it is a defective throttle body. *tr
My fusion has multiple issues. the first being a stalling issue when sitting at a stop, when you press the accelerator the car just dies. it has done this to me multiple times the latest being with my wife who now refuses to drive the car. it doesn't post a code and starts right up; with no code the ford says they cannot help. the second issue is terrible shifting and very slow response to throttle movements. the shift from 1st gear to 2nd has been very bad; ford has flashed the computer multiple times which did nothing. ford says without a code they are not able to help. this has been an issue with the car from day 1. third issue is when you are accelerating and have to hit the brakes, when you get back on the gas the car acts as if the motor was turned off. you have to push the accelerator to the floor to get it to respond. i have almost been hit multiple times due to this issue. again no code so ford says they cannot do anything. *tr
2010 ford fusion reference odi # 10351655 since the first registered complaint of rough and erratic shifting (odi 10351655) my transmission has completely failed. the ford service manager where we are waiting repair said he had not seen one in such a physical state, anything that could have melted was melted. ford has a problem with this tranmission as it is recommended for recreational towing. the unit had been adjusted and "fixed" twice before according to ford specifications and the information in bulliten (ford tsb 09-20-13) was followed. while traveling at a speed of approximately 62 mph the transmission malfunctioned and became totally disabled. if we weren't towing this vehicle securely behind a motorhome but rather driving at that rate and the cars transmission self-destructs what possible damage to life and property might have occurred???? this faulty transmission is not the only isolated incident! other dealers have been waiting for weeks for replacement parts to rebuild transmissions as a remedy to the problem. i've been assured that i will be receiving another transmission (possibly a remanufactured unit) that has received modifications for flat/ recreational towing. i would hope your agency investigates this situation thoroughly before anyone is seriously injured or killed as a result of a malfunctioning transmission in the ford fusion and 2009-2010 escape along with the mercury 2010 milan and 2009-2010 mariner. i was also lead to believe that ford had distributed information through their fmc dealer network concerning the remanufactured transmission units that had been modified for flat towing. if this information is not released publically anyone is at risk, whether driving the vehicle or traveling on the roadways along with vehicles that have the defective transmissions. please contact me at [xxx] regarding this matter. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
