We have classified the 777 complaints from 2010 Ford Fusion about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
While driving on the freeway in november 2012, going about 70mph my car lost power and began to shake, my check engine light came on as well as the transmission light. i turned the car off and then it started it and it was fine. i took it into my local ford dealership and they said they couldn't find anything wrong with it. july 25 2013 i was only going about 10mph and the same thing happened again, from july 25th till aug 3 this happened about 10 different times all going about 30mph. the check engine light stayed on for 2 days aug 2/3. i took it in again to my local dealership on aug 6 2013 were they told me my electronic throttle body was bad and need replaced and was going to cost me around $670, and my car is under warranty but this part is not covered. i see that alot of other have had the same problem and this part should be recalled asap. im not paying to fix and part that is faulty in so man y vehicles. *tr
First event was while exiting a mall parking lot; stepped on gas pedal, and instead of accelerating the car seemed just about to stall. i got off to the side of the road, and before shutting off the engine noticed the "wrench" symbol illuminated on the instrument cluster. i waited a few minutes and started the car, noting the "wrench" was no longer on, put it in gear and drove off. the car ran fine until 12/28/12, when while traveling at approx 70mph on i-90 the engine began to again down shift and lose power. the third occurrence was the morning of 12/29/12; in each above incident i was able to get off the traffic way, park, shut off the car, restart it and drive away. the wrench was illuminated each time. on 01/03/13 my car was serviced by the dealer from where i purchased it, and they said the problem was the throttle body. they had one in stock and replaced it. kudos to them, but, more than a little unnerving. and if it was replaced with the same style unit, how do i know it won't happen again, perhaps at a most inopportune time? at the time of writing this i don't have the vin available, however, fwiw, the build date is june 2010. it is the sel awd with the v-6 engine, 3.0l i believe. *tr
While driving down the highway, my car stalled and went into "safety mode" or low power mode. i was unable to accelerate. after pulling over, noticed the car was idling rough. the maintenance wrench light came on. i turned off the car and restarted it, after a few seconds of rough starting the car turned back on, the wrench light went off and the vehicle drove fine again. however, the same incident happened multiple times later that day and through out the week. i took it to a ford dealer and they were unable to find anything wrong with the vehicle, since there were no codes currently on at the time of service. after doing some research online, i've found the throttle body is defective, yet ford refuses to replace this under warranty, or replace it unless there is hard evidence that is the issue. *tr
Beginning in november 2012, the above 2010 ford fusion began intermittently and randomly "stalling out". it first happened at interstate speeds. the car would completely lose propulsion. the accelerator would not propel the car, but the car would keep running at a low idle. once the car was turned off for several seconds, it would restart and be fine again until the next unanticipated occurrence. the "wrench" light would come on while it was occurring, but that or the "engine light" would not stay on. the ford dealer that we contacted said that they would not be able to diagnose the problem if it was not occurring in their presence, or if the engine light was not on to help direct them. this has occurred upwards of 15 or more times between november 2012 and today, placing my spouse in precarious traffic safety situations. today, the same problem occurred three times in a row, the first time almost causing a collision while going at highway speed. the engine light stayed on this time, and it was immediately brought to the dealership. they had a hard time with diagnostics, but currently believe it has something to do with electronic componentry that substantially helps the engine interpret what the accelerator wants. although this would seem to be a drive train issue, they are telling me that ford is refusing to cover it under their 5 year / 50,000 mile drive train warranty (remarkable). in looking more into this problem tonite, i found that nhtsa seems to be investigating this same issue (see: www.thespec.com/news-story/2091295-ford-vehicles-investigated-over-complaints-of-stalling-or-surges/). to assist with that investigation, i wanted to make you were aware of that same issue with this particular vehicle, and am seeking your input and assistance in this safety matter. thank you, in advance. *tr
We were driving back from shopping, had the cruise set at 65 mph. the car lost power and would not accelerate. i looked down at the dash and notice the wrench light had come on. we pulled off the road and i notice that the vehicle was running rough and still would not accelerate even after putting the car in park. we were contemplating who we could call at such a late hour. i decided to turn the car off and see if would restart, it in fact did and the engine seem to be running normally. we continued to our destination with out further incident. the car has remained in the driveway since the incident. this is the first problem we have had with this vehicle, we bought it used in february of this year. it had 29,700 miles on it and had no issues reported to car fax. it was a one owner vehicle and that was a rental car from initial sale of car in hawaii. *tr
We were on the hwy going about 65mph in the middle lane of an extremely busy time. it was dark and all of a sudden the car stopped accelerating and we barely made it to the side. waited 5-10 minutes while we called a mechanic friend. started it back up to see if we can get off on the next exit and before we could, it happened again. finally got it home but had to wait two days to take it in since they were closed. ended up not only costing me $400 to fix it, but also the inconvenience of not having a vehicle to get things done as well as a day off of work because i couldn't get there. seeing as many complaints as i've seen, this should have been fixed a long time ago. i love fords, but with the issues i've had, i'm considering a trade in for a different brand. *tr
Driver was going 35-40 mph and suddenly experienced a severe loss of power as if the car transmission was put in neutral.was a scary experience!! had to put on emergency flashers to keep from getting hit from behind.car was driving very slow and then after a period of time, full power came back on. *tr
First incident occurred while vehicle was traveling at 50mph w/no cruise set. vehicle jerked hard and ability to accelerate was lost. vehicle started running rough and wrench light was observed to be on. second incident w/ cruise set at 60mph, vehicle jerked and cruise was automatically deactivated. was able to pull off side of road at which point vehicle was observed running rough and wrench light was on. turned vehicle off and restarted. vehicle began running fine. third incident occurred hours after second incident with no cruise on and vehicle traveling at 60mph. vehicle jerked hard and began running rough as pulling off side of road. wrench light was observed on again. upon research of issue, it was noted that several other consumers with same vehicle experienced same issue (source: http://www.fordfusion.net). in every case that consumers posted on the forums, the throttle body had been found faulty by a ford dealer and was replaced. some users also noted that their incidents occurred on busy populated highways in which safety could have been compromised. *tr
I was traveling down the freeway at approx 70 mph and there was a sudden shuttering of the engine/car and loss of power. the"wrench" light turned on. i seemed as though the engine was still on but when i pushed on the accelerator nothing happened. this happened in the middle of a 4 lane freeway. thank god i was traveling down hill so i was able to get over to the shoulder. i turned the car off, waited a moment and tried to restart. it started back up and drove for another month or two when it did the exact same thing. seems like this is happening to quite a few people who own ford fusions. i've taken it in and it is the throttle body, same as many other peoples complaints with the exact same story. very dangerous problem. *tr
While driving under normal conditions, at approximately 45 mph, engine suddenly stalls, wrench light comes on dash board, no power to engine whatsoever. pulled the car over onto shoulder, engine is shaking violently at this point, shut the car off. waited approx. five minutes, turn car back on, no problem. no more wrench light, no longer stalls. i took the car into a ford dealer and they said i had a bad o2 sensor. so they replace it and say that will fix the problem. when i dropped it off i told them to look at the electronic throttle body because a lot of people online had posted about the same type of problem and the throttle body was to blame. the dealer told me they checked the throttle body and it was fine.' ha!! however approximately 1-2 weeks go by and the same thing happens again with no warning. driving down the road everything is fine and then suddenly the car stalls, no power to engine, shaking, wrench light comes on again. this happens 3 times in a span of about 7 miles. i bring the car back to ford and tell them what happened. they call me back a few hours later and say yeah you've got a bad throttle body (but it was "fine" two weeks ago?) they then proceed to tell me that it will cost approx. $465 and it's not covered by any warranty. i also spoke with the dealer that i purchased the car from and they told me over the phone that they were getting a lot of these 2010 fusions with faulty throttle body parts and that if i had it replaced it would actually be a different design than the original factory installed version. yet i had to pay to have it replaced. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion sport. the contact stated that the vehicle stalled immediately after being started. the vehicle would surge and shake abnormally. the failure occurred without warning. in addition, the tachometer would sporadically increase and decrease rapidly. the failure recurred intermittently. the vehicle was inspected by a dealer however, the cause of the failure was not determined. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a complaint was filed. the failure mileage was 45,000. the current mileage was 51,075.
I purchased a 2010 ford fusion sel with 29,493 miles. i had under 2,000 miles when i began having trouble. this day i had only driven about six miles from home when i came up to a stop sign. while trying to accelerate, around 15 mph, the wrench light came on and i lost all power, the engine dropped speed rapidly bucking, surging and chattering as if it jumped time. since i had no power, i dropped into neutral and coasted on to the shoulder of the road. at that point, it would only go forward with the same symptoms, so i put it in reverse and backed onto a side road and turned it off. i turned the flashers on and called a tow truck. they took the car back to the dealership. i called the mechanic the next day, then after waiting 24 hours with no response, i called back again, and the mechanic said they couldn't find nothing wrong with it. i then spent hours on line looking for what might be causing these symptoms and found hundreds of complaints about the exact same issues determined to be a defective electronic throttle body failure (etb). i found out since the engine was off, and check engine light never came on, the computer reset itself so there was no code. then i also saw a video of another ford reacting with the exact same symptoms as mine and learned ford has modified the design of defective etb. after citing what i found to my mechanic, he decided to replace the defective part with the updated, modified part number ds7z 9e926 d. the car was manufactured january 2010 so by november 2013 the warranty was up by 10 months. ( 3 year or 36,000 miles). i paid the amount $285.36 in full on november 02, 2013. regarding ford, why are they ignoring to acknowledge this as a safety issue ? if i had a tractor trailer behind me going 65 mph and my car lost all power with no brake lights? there could have had been a very different outcome. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving approximately 65 mph, an unknown warning light illuminated and the vehicle decelerated independently to approximately 10 mph. the contact was able to maneuver to the emergency lane and shut off the vehicle. the contact was able to restart the engine. the vehicle was taken to dealer. the technician diagnosed that the throttle body failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. however, the failure recurred multiple times with the service advancetrac and service power steering message illuminated on the instrument panel. the vehicle was taken to a dealer. however, the technician was unable to duplicate the failure. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 34,000. the vin was not available.
The car would not accelerate. it did not lose its braking or steering, but we had no choice but to pull over. *tr updated 11/07/12*lj updated 11/15/12
Each time (8 times) traveling at 40-67 mph and with traffic around and wrench light comes on along with check engine light; car then loses speed rapidly to only a few miles per hour. barely able to pull over before completely stopping. been in shop twice and both times, codes do not show anything nor have they seen the warning light and it happen to them after driving it for a total of 150 miles testing it. after each time it happens able to sit for 10-15 minutes and it start back up and run. very concerned for my family's safety as we have had several near miss accidents due to the car drastically dropping speed (out of our control) with each occurrence. after research on internet reading several stories of exact scenario (blaming throttle body)and ford has done nothing about it. please please please recall the parts and prevent a bad accident happening. *tr
Throttle body failure: fist occurrence- driving on highway all of a sudden no power. pressing on the gas nothing happens. no check engine light came on. pulled off to the side of highway and put the car in park. the car starting shaking and the wrench light came on. turned car off, then back on and everything was okay. about 6 hours later this happened again as i was passing in the fast lane, then suddenly lost power. again, no check engine light. same scenario as the first. took it to my mechanic and no error codes register. he checked twice. so for a week and a half the car was fine. then happened twice again, no warning, just lost power. this time a check engine light came on after i put the car in park. had it towed to the auto shop and a code did register this time. had it taken for ford and they had to replace the throttle body. this was a very dangerous situation especially when speeding up to pass as the speed limit on that part of the highway is 75 so cars were coming up fast behind me. if i had caused an accident and injuries occurred the fist or second time it happened on the highway, it would have seemed my fault and there would have been no error codes to at least validate what happened. please, please, issue a recall for the throttle body before someone is hurt. not to mention the people just out of warranty that have to pay for this repair. *tr
This is the second time car lost power and the wrench light came on also. the first time was oct. 22, 2012, the speed at time was 40mph. shuddered pull to the side of the road and restarted the car. fault cleared after this. *tr
Wrench light came on and car went from 35mph to coasting. i was able to pull to the side of the road and shut the car down. waited a few minutes car started up and i gave it some gas it went for a few minutes and then the car sputtered and all the lights came on and car stopped. was close to ford service center, they just called and said the throttle body has gone bad. *tr
Was driving home from work and the car just stopped. unable to get the car to start getting a wrench showing looked in manual shows something to do with the throttle. i am over the new car warranty. i spoke to the dealer and they were aware of the issues with the fusions. repair cost over $500. *tr
My 2010 ford fusion showed an orange/yellow wrench and the car began to shake violently on interstate 75 north. i was traveling at 70mph when this happened, and the car completely shut off. after avoiding collisions i had it towed and repaired at ford. i have contacted ford to be reimbursed, as many others have been. however, i was told that since i had only owned/registered one vehicle with ford, that i was not considered a loyal customer, so they could not reimburse me. *tr
Driving the car suddenly slowed into a limp mode. this happened several times. the final time was on a major highway at 55mph. luckily i was able to maneuver the to the side of the road before getting rear ended by traffic from behind. this is dangerous condition! after visits to 2 ford dealers, they replaced the throttle body. the car was out of warranty by mileage, (not time), so we ended up paying out almost $500 for the repair and car rental. *tr
Engine shut down to very slow idle when starting from intersection. barely able to get vehicle out of road. this has now happened 4 times, each time when moving thru intersection. this is very dangerous when traffic is approaching from all directions. after engine has been shut off a few minutes it runs ok. it happened twice on the first occasion then ran good for 5 days when it shut down again, then ran good for 6 days when shut down once more .i see on the internet that this is happening to lots of other fusion owners. it's just a matter of time until someone is crashed into because of this stalling. the problem seems to be the throtte body needs replacing. i think ford needs to recall these vehicles now before a tragedy occurs. *tr
This is my second complaint in as many days - about the exact same problem. this incident happened two days after the first one. traveling on a city street approximately 15-20 mph and the car suddenly loses all acceleration and the wrench light appears. i was able to putter to the side of the road and shut the car off. when i restarted it, it ran fine. it goes to the dealer today for inspection, where i suspect i'll get the same response that most every one else gets - that the problem couldn't be re-produced. what will it take to get a recall from ford about the defect in their design? fatal accidents?? that's a pretty high price to pay before they're forced to correct their product. *tr
After pulling onto a highway my ford fusion began to jerk and lose acceleration. what a horrible feeling at 6am...in the dark......with a highway full of semi trucks wondering if you can get off the road before you are hit! i pulled off the side of the road and notice my wrench light was on. i pushed the gas pedal and there was no change in the rpm's. it was like the engine was dead but still running. after turning the car off and on three times the wrench light went out and i drove straight to the ford dealership. a few hours later they called and told me that the throttle body needed to be replaced. of course this part would not be covered by my 100,000 certified pre-owned warranty!! and on top of that the dealership charged me a $157.00 diagnostic fee....like ford doesn't know they have an issue. *tr
I own a 2010 ford fusion with 19000 miles. i haven't even had it a month yet. it is a certified pre-owned vehicle. driving home from work yesterday, i stopped in a line of traffic at a red light. the light turned green and i accelerated. during acceleration, the car jerked then lost all forward momentum and "puttered". i was able to "putter" to the side of the road out of traffic. i put it in park and noticed that the wrench light was lit up, so i pulled out the owner's manual to see what it meant...powertrain. i turned the car off for about 5 minutes then restarted it with no other incidents on my way home. thank god i wasn't in any heavier traffic or multiple lanes! from what i've been reading, some people have lost acceleration going 50+ mph in interstate/highway traffic! if this problem isn't addressed, and soon, someone will be seriously injured or worse due to a defect in ford's design. *tr
On the highway with my little girl in the back going 65 mph, then suddenly the car went limp, lost all power. i barely made it the shoulder. i was so scared i took my daughter out the car and stand her on the far side of the road. the car was idling very rough, with the service engine wrench on. i had it towed, but i could have saved some cash because after restarting the car it ran fine. the dealer said they could not find anything wrong ' no error code, they test drive it and could not duplicate the issue. turns out if you shut the car off it clears the error code, how stupid is this! who is going to keep the car running while getting a tow. i drove it for about a month then it happen again, and sure enough on the highway again. i took it back to the dealer and from my research on the web i told them to change the throttle box,' let's hope this fix the issue. *tr
On october 4, 2012, i was driving my 2010 ford fusion around 40 m.p.h. on a four lane street when the power steering failed/locked for no reason. the electronic display said "power steering assist fault. service advancetrac" i drove straight for 5 miles and knew there was a dealer on the left side and managed a wide left turn into the dealership. when i waited for the representative to come to my car, i turned off the engine. i explained what happened and he asked to see the display. i turned the car back on, the display was gone and the power steering was back on. i left the dealer and went on-line and found numerous complaints about the same problem. i also learned that it is useless to take the car to ford for service because dealers claim that the computer is not showing a diagnostic code and they need to "replicate the problem" (which is highly unlikely that it will happen while at the dealer). i also learned that it has happened to some customers many times and there is no warning or reason why the ps suddenly fails. further, it appears that dealers have no idea how to correct the problem. it is a safety issue. it is dangerous, especially if it fails when trying to make a turn. i went back to the dealer and was told that they never heard of this issue and it could be anything. i then called corporate headquarters for ford and filed a complaint. i was told that they would get back to me today, october 5, 2012. i have heard nothing. this needs to be investigated immediately. i cannot afford to buy a new car. i also cannot in good conscience sell my car with this dangerous defect. i feel that ford is forcing me to drive an unsafe car and i am extremely scared that the ps will go out again in a situation that will cause me to crash or worse. *tr the consumer stated the dealer replaced the steering rack. the consumer stated the power steering has not failed since. however, the vehicle seemed to steer hard and would pull to the left or right when braking. ...
Driving along. car suddenly seemed to loose power. i seemed to kick out of gear and stopped responding to the gas pedal. i had to cost to a stop. the "wrench" light came on when the problem started, but after i cut the key off and restarted the "wrench" light was off and all worked fine. this happened 1 time the first day and twice the next. nothing else happened for 3 more days but on the fourth day the same thing happened. each time i had to coast to a stop. one time i was in a very dangerous situation, since the coast stopped in the middle of a curve on a very dark road. *tr
At 11:45 pm, i was traveling west on i-64, at 68 mph, when my car quickly decelerated. despite my applying more gas, my car continued to lose power rapidly and began shuddering. it was then that the "wrench" warning light came on. i immediately pulled over to the side of the road, turned my vehicle off and put my hazard lights on. i waited for a 5 minutes before starting the car again. the car started roughly but did not have any power and could/would not accelerate. it was at this time that both the wrench and engine warning lights came on. again i turned off the car and waited. after another 10-15 minutes, i turned the car on again. this time it started without incident. the wrench warning light did not come back on but the engine light remained on. i kept my hazard lights on and remained in the breakdown lane while i drove approximately 5 miles to the closest exit off the interstate where i promptly parked my car. *tr
This is the second time car lost power and the wrench light came on also shuddered pull to the side of the road and restarted the car. fault cleared after this. *tr
While driving my 2010 3.0 ford fusion on secondary roads, the car suddenly lost power. after 5 minutes, it could be restarted and driven but after approximately 30 seconds, it would lose power again and coast to a stop. it stranded my wife and daughter until towed to a dealer. the dealer diagnosed a bad throttle body, and charged approximately $700.00 to replace the part and perform a recommended fuel system cleaning. repeated email to ford customer service resulted in a denial of responsibility because they were under no warranty or recall obligation. i spoke with a service writer who told me that this problem appeared to be consistent for fusions. *tr
Throttle body malfunctions while car is at speed. the "wrench" light appears on the display and then the car loses power and begins to shudder. turning the car off and restarting it resets the display and starts fine. problem is intermittent but dangerous as the car stops working while the car is going anywhere from 25 to 45 mph. *tr
Wrench light comes on, car kicks out of gear into idle mode, will not accelerate, shakes violently. i was able to coast to side of road and turn off engine. restarted engine with longer than normal cranking time. gear changes (automatic) continues to be sluggish and happens at highway and city speeds. *tr
Wrench light comes on, car kicks out of gear into idling mode, will not accelerate, shakes violently. pull over, turn it off, restart it with no problems. sluggish gear changes (automatic) happens at town and highway speed. *tr
The wrench light came on and stayed on steady and the car suddenly lost all engine power. headlights stayed still on and hazard lights worked. i tried starting the car but pressing the gas pedal produced no movement of the car nor any increase in engine sound. after trying to start it several times, it seemed like it started but not a normal start. the engine appeared to be very rough but again, no fast engine sound. it kind of limped to the side of the road which was on a very slight incline. no pressing of the gas pedal produced any significant movement of the car. the car was violently shaking as it limped to the side of the road at maybe 2 miles per hour. once i got it to the side of the road out of traffic, i did turn it off. i gave it about 30 seconds and it started normally. no more wrench light. it seemed to work fine after that. i drove home ? about 90 miles with no further problems. i reported the problem to our local ford dealer. the dealer has been supportive. ford motor company has not been supportive. when i called the ford dealer explaining the symptoms, the service coordinator?s first question was, ?is it a fusion?? he already knew it was a common problem with fusions. he said that i am not going to like what he had to say. he said that ford will not allow him to do the 30-minute repair unless a code is available in the obd unit. i brought it in and no code was found. they tried for two days to get it to code. the service manager pleaded with ford?s upper level to allow the repair but they were inflexible. their response ? ?no code, no repair.? ford?s customer relationship center was useless! they offered no help. the local dealer had six cars the week after my car died with the exact same issue as mine. i was placed back on the road with ford knowing i would again be stranded. it happened again 4 weeks later. *tr
Driving on interstate at 70mph and car just loses power!!! luckily no one near us. pulled over to side and turned car off. restarted and proceeded to exit ramp and it did it again! a wrench indicator light appears on dash. went to nearest gas station and attendant could not help much so we had no choice but to keep going. started vehicle and it seemed fine this time and drove for several minutes then while riving on busy street approx 40 mph and car began to sputter and lose power; wrench indicator light came on dash and car eventually died this time. managed to roll to side of street and turned key off. restarted and then after driving a few minutes did the same thing; this time barely avoiding a major collision! this happened 7 times in a couple of mile radius before i could get to a garage; very dangerous! discovered that it is the throttle body and computer codes reveal it is sticking open and closed. after research on computer have discovered countless people with same problem from their fusions. ford must issue a recall! this is extremely dangerous! *js
Driving 55-60 mph on freeway when car suddenly lost all power. it did not stall. it would jump ahead inches at a time if i pressed the accelerator but very dangerous situation as cars behind me had no warning that i was going to suddenly just stop. it took me 10 minutes at least to pull over to the side of the freeway and this only because a long haul trucker finally realized what was happening and blocked traffic for me to limp to the side of the freeway. this happened on 9/25/12, then again on 9/26/12. the only immediate fix is to turn the car off,let it sit a few minutes then start it up again. it seems to reset whatever is causing the problem. through private contacts i was put in touch with a ford plant manager who had me go to a certain dealership and had a recorder put on the car. it never did it while the recorder was on the car. they told me they felt it was a throttle valve problem but that my car was out of warranty and if it kept happening i would probably have a very expensive repair if the car kept doing this. it did it once more after the recorder was taken off and has not done it since november 2012. *tr
I pulled out of my works parking lot and got 50 ft. car began to slow down, shake/ vibrate violently, and emergency wrench lite lit up. while driving and while in park, it shook. i went to pull off to the side of the rode safely. thank good ness i was on a downhill and could coast to a side road (but still not safe where i was). once i was pulled off major road, i put the car in park. i turned the car off and was too afraid to do anything else. i called for a tow. 24 hours later, i was told my car's computer code said it had a bad throttle body. it was replaced with a brand new, revised throttle body - under warranty which ends in 37 days. it happens to many ford fusions. it's time for ford to own up and send out the recall notices before someone gets hurt/killed. *tr
I have a 2010 fusion. i purchased the car as a certified pre-owned. the car stalled 6 times on the way home last night. the wrench light would go on and there was no throttle response. the car would shake and sputter. i would shut the car off and restart and could proceed for a short distance. the last time it stall on the freeway on ramp. i took it in and let the dealer know what had occurred and they called back indicating it is the throttle body. i am out of manufacturers warranty. the cost is $500. the power train system is covered but the throttle body is not (even though the throttle body causes the power train to go into stall)? at what point will they make the choice that the throttle body that is in these cars are not up to par and a safety hazard and make it a recalled item? *tr
First incident was september 23, 2012. was driving at about 45 mph and my 2010 ford fusion lost power and the wrench light came on. car would not accelerate when peddle was pushed and was shaking as i pulled over. i was able to pull over and get the car restarted and drive home. a few days later the car would not start and ford dealership replaced the battery and said that most likely caused the vehicle to lose power. i took their word for it. may 27 2013, 8 months later the car is losing power again. happened once on the 27th and 4 times on the 28th as i attempted to go to work and as i drove it to the dealer to diagnose. car is at dealers now waiting for their diagnosis. *tr
I was traveling down the highway when my car stopped getting power when i pressed the gas. a yellow wrench warning dash light came on, the car started shaking and had no power when trying to accelerate to get over a lane to get off the road to avoid an accident. i luckily got over with my hazard lights on and coasted to the shoulder where the car finally stopped but did not shut off or die. the car idled and continued to shake so i popped the hood and checked the transmission fluid level. the level was slightly low which was strange cause i had to add half a qt of trans fluid the month before because the shifting was rough. the fluid was very dark colored and smelled scorched. i shut the vehicle off and let it sit for about 10 minutes then i checked the oil, ok. i turned the car back on, added a little more trans fluid and the car seemed to be ok to get me the rest of the way to work. i left it in a parking lot for the night and returned to check it out in the light. i jacked it up and found some fluid slowly coming out of the place where the axle goes into the transmission. i called the ford service center, explained what happened and explained what i found. i had the recall for the transmission done in 2011 for ford fusion 2010s but the rough shifting has been a problem since i bought it. i have had constant trouble with the transmission shifting rough and now losing all power while driving on the highway at 55mph. it almost caused an accident. my car is now at 76,800 miles and ford service rep says the bill is on me cause the powertrain warranty is up and the recall for the same problem doesn't cover me anymore. i want my car fixed with this problem and i cant afford to keep going to the shop every time this keeps acting up. ford needs to fix the problem with their transmissions before someone gets hurt by this. luckily my 1yr old daughter was not with me this time. *tr
I was slowing to a stop when my car shuddered and the engine seemed to die. i had a error symbol for the transmission and the engine had no more power. it was stuck in idle now even though i was just doing 35 miles per hour coming to a stop. as i finally braked to a stop the engine was surging, but when i pressed the gas pedal, nothing happened to the engine, it was as if it was just turned on and placed in drive only. i didn't know what to do, i had to get through 2 intersections on idle speed only. i finally pulled over past the intersections and turned my car completely off. i then turned it back on and it was working normally. i took it to the ford dealership, who told me this is common after a new battery is placed in these fusions. they noticed my recently purchased used car (purchased about a month before this) had a brand new battery in it. they told me with a new battery, the carbon builds up dramatically and damages the throttle body. so i need to buy a new throttle body and have the cars acceleration computer reprogrammed. and this might happen every time i get a new battery? please investigate this occurrence with other ford dealerships. i have reading this same story all over the web. why doesn't ford do something to correct this issue? *tr
On way home from work, driving for 30 miles, going 50 mph, upon changing lanes, the acceleration died. wrench light came on. i was able to pull over on the highway. thankfully, just got through the eight miles of construction with no shoulder and only one lane. if it happened then, i could have caused an accident or at least angered quite a few people on their way home from work by stopping traffic with no way to get around me. as the car was idling, the tach was jumping all over the place, so i put it in park and shut the car off. waited a few minutes, started the car and was able to drive the additional mile home. called the dealership to have this checked out. cannot get in for several days. holding my breath driving it back and forth to work on major highways until then. my first major disappointment with ford for not recalling this issue. *tr
I recently bought a 2010 ford fusion with 45000.00 miles on it. after having owned it for only about 2.5 months i am having problems. while driving down a 4 lane highway at 55 miles per hour it almost stops in the middle of the highway and will not accelerate. it does this with no warning. i am able to pull over to the shoulder and the car begins to shake as i come to a complete stop. once i turn the car off the wrench light goes out i am able to start it back up. it has happened several more times. today it happened in the middle of a busy intersection. the ford dealership in my area when i called said it would be hard to diagnose because the problem is intermittent. by reading the complaints from everyone on the 2010 ford fusion this a common problem with this model. the issue seems to be the throttle body. my fear is that someone will slam into my car not realizing it has stopped in the road. i really think it is a safety issue and cannot believe with being such a wide spread problem ford has not done something to correct it before someone is injured from what appears to be a defective part they have put on their cars. *tr
75 while driving at highway speed car would stop being responsive to the accelerator pedal being depressed. the car would go into limp mode and shake violently. the obd system's & the wrench(powertrain light became illuminated . i proceeded to pull off on to the shoulder of the road and turned the car off. lights reset and car would run okay. this occurred 12 times prior to the obd codes could be determined. code p2111 and various related codes. throttle body stuck open. this problem could potentially have caused a fatal collision in heavy traffic. *tr
The car basically stalled without turning off. the "wrench" light turned on and the car lost all power and the accelerator was unresponsive. the car would only go 2 mph. once stopped and placed in park, the car idled very rough. then turned off the car. when re-starting the car it started poorly, but once started the wrench light was off. the car then drove normally. this happened 3x that day. i am lucky i did not get into an accident when i lost all power and had to pull over. ford will not fix it citing they cannot see the code. i am afraid to drive this car for fear of an accident. *tr *js
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving approximately 70 mph, the vehicle decelerated independently. the vehicle was taken to the dealer twice for diagnosis of the failure. the technician was unable to diagnose the failure. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was not available. the approximate failure mileage was 62,000. *tr
Read in paper that you were looking at ford throttle body. i was in fast lane on i-66 on a friday afternoon. suddenly car stopped. i was lucky there was room on left apron to pull off. car restarted when i tried--went 1000 feet and stopped again; now in right lane and pulled off. knew there was an off ramp 1/4 mile ahead and limped on apron with cars passing. the entire situation was very dangerous in my estimation. when restarting, it was hard to tell if auto was running or not. when restarting auto backfired etc. prior to this incident had reported to ford dealer that transmission sometime "clunked" when i put auto in reverse in the morning. they found no problem. have not had this problem since i paid to have the throttle body replaced. *tr
The transmission has been jerking since we bought it i believe in 2012. it jerks at 25 to 35 (est...) and not all the time. it also does it when you put it into drive coming out of reverse. i have nerves problems and i feel it more than most people. my husband it healthy and he is now seeing what i have been talking about. it is doing it pretty frequently now. its april 2014. going to the owners manual we found out it was replaced at 8000 miles (est) with prior owner. also are tail lights edging keeps chipping or breaking off. i see it on most ford fusion. and lastly our gas tank lid is beyond loose. it is always blowing open. we hope it doesn't never get ripped off or that water doesn't in to the gas. simple but major problems. this new of car should not keep having problems. *tr
We were traveling on busy i-80 at approximately 70 m.p.h. due to busy vehicular traffic on the interstate hi-way, i was not using the cruise-control. when we experienced the incident, i had pressed on the gas pedal to maintain speed on an uphill section. on the uphill section, i noticed the vehicle did not accelerate and the instrument panel warning lights started flashing. even with heavy traffic, i was able to negotiate maneuvering the vehicle to the shoulder. as i was coasting on the shoulder, i shifted the transmission to neutral and tried to start the engine (ev system did not respond either) with no avail. after coming to a complete stop, i shifted the transmission to park, turned-off the climate control system and the and radio. i removed the ignition key and re-installed it and proceeded to start the vehicle, the propulsion system (ev mode) responded. we accelerated on the shoulder in ev mode and we reached speed the gas engine responded and we were back on i-80 and traveling with the traffic flow. this is first time this has occurred with us but researching this phenoma, this event has happened with other ford fusion hybrid owners. we are concerned the propulsion system may shut-down in an unsafe environment and create a dangerous situation! *tr
