We have classified the 205 complaints from 2004 Ford F-150 about VISIBILITY into the following categories.
I have a 2004 ford f-150 and the regulator in the drivers side window went out causing a loud grinding noise and then causing the window to crash down into the frame of the door. the window is down and will not roll back up. *tr
2004 f150 rear window wire failure caused the window to stay down. the wind at 65 mph makes the vehicle vibrate with the window stuck down. *tr
2004 ford f-150 crew cab rear passenger window regulator failure and window shattering inside door. drivers side rear window regulator failed and was replaced several months ago. unable to roll up rear window. *tr ordered parts to have it replaced, the regulator iis more expensive than most regulators. *tr
2004 ford f-150 truck window regulator failures. recently, my driver's side window made a load popping sound, then fell into the door. i brought it into my ford dealership who informed me that this is a common problem where the regulator fails. the repair cost was $400. after doing some research, i've found hundreds of other cases where the 2004 f-150 model had window regulator failures. please advise. *tr
About 2 years ago my drivers side window in my f150 fx4 went down and out. didn't think much of it, now my passenger rear window is just grinding gears. my truck only has 48k on it and is well serviced. after reading several complaints i decided to put mine in since this is crazy. this should be a recall issue, it might not cause death but ford and parts stores aren't open 24/7 so you have a wide open truck to steal or steal your belongings while you window is down. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 ford f-150. the contact stated that all the window regulators were failing. the first to fail was on the passenger front window and the driver rear side was failing. the windows dropped down and made a grinding noise when she attempted to roll it up. the vehicle was taken to a repair shop where the first regulator was replaced. the manufacturer had not been notified. the current mileage was approximately 125,000. the failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
2004 ford f150 window regulators. driving home at night window started lowering itself. no way to secure truck that night. took apart window and removed regulator. the part of the window that secures glass is a combination of metal and plastic the plastic piece secures the cables that are attached to the power window motor. these plastic pieces are under too much stress and then either begin cracking or break altogether. this causes the cable to be unsecured thus causing the window glass to no longer have support. there are one of two easy fixes for this problem that i can see,or maybe three.the first is to redesign the part without the use of plastic. number two is to offer this particular piece separate because it actually can be remove without any problem from the window tracks and offer it as an alternative repair part for those who are mechanically inclined to repair it themselves,or have a recall on these regulators. i believe if a recall was offered on these regulators the fix would be the removable alternative part. too keep from having continuing recalls the part should be all metal or upgrade the plastic somehow although all metal would be better. if a recall is offered ,dealers will want the small removable part as the fix i'm almost sure of. in the mean time i will have to search for the complete regulator with or without motor which is becoming difficult because most parts companies want to sell the complete assembly or in my case don't offer the rear window regulator which forces us too have to go too ford and pay in excess of 200 dollars for the part and labor for those who are not mechanically inclined. anyway if door glass is falling and shattering this is a safety issue and because this can happen in extreme weather. also the vehicle cannot be secured causing theft to rise and thus insurance rates too rise also. tell ford to fix the problem. thank you for this link. *tr
I own a 2004 ford f150. last saturday we attempted to roll down electric window on passenger side rear. it made a clicking sound and window came crashing down. this left my vehicle vulnerable to rain or theft all weekend. just two months ago we had same problem with front passenger window when on our way to vacation destination. we had to replace power window regulator for cost of $300 plus labor?!?!? looking online i have found many other complaints of same model vehicle with same issues. *tr
I attempted to raise my front passenger-side power window on my 2004 ford f-150 supercab. i heard a loud pop and the window began to lower automatically. when it was completely inside the door, it stopped. i am now unable to raise this window. i was personally at a stop when the window failed, however, there are numerous accounts of this failure occurring in moving vehicles creating a safety hazard. *tr
2004 f 150 supercrew window came crashing down. after long research many paying ford customers have this problem, real safety issue. so please recall these vehicles. ford is gouging us on the price for fixing there problem. thanks. *tr
2004 ford f-150 power window regulator failed while driving causing the drivers side window to violently fall from the top (closed) position to the bottom (open) position of the door panel. weather was raining and causing not only driving issues but parking issues as well being unable to leave the vehicle in fear of theft or damage. *tr
I have a 2004 ford f-150. over the last two years i have had to replace three of the four power window regulators. just this last week the fourth one broke. i have spent approximately $250-$350 each time. i also have a father-in-law with the same year ford f-150 who has experienced the same issues. he has replaced three of the four, and knows it is just a matter of time before his fourth goes out. i have talked with the head mechanic at the local ford dealership and he says he is replacing them all the time and that ford should have issued a recall on them, but has not done so. i have found that several thousand other people have had the same issues with this year model. i am very disappointed in ford that they know there is and has been a problem with these parts and have not helped out their customers. this will and has already helped in my future discussions on purchasing another ford vehicle. *tr
Ford fx4 window dropped but was lucky it didnot break had to replace the window regulator. *tr
2004 ford f-150 crew cab lariat. driving in rainstorm, the power window regulator fails and the window comes crashing down. this is the 3rd of 4 windows that has fell down for no reason in a 18 mo. period. the shock and surprise has caused me to lose control and run into a fence. had this been on a freeway it could be worse. *tr
The power window assembly failed while driving 65mph on the interstate with my 10 month old english lab. i heard a loud "pop" and the window dropped. luckily it did not shatter, but my dog of course went for the window as most puppy's do. he climbed over my lap to the drivers side window nearly causing me to crash before i could get him back in place and get the truck pulled over and slowed down safely. i didn't realize that this was such an issue until i took the door panel off and saw the mangled cable and broken plastic pieces in the door. i started researching it via the internet, landing me here. it looks like the repair will cost approx. 300.00-500.00 per window. i simply can't afford that in today's economic climate. this is a very dangerous issue...please help get the vehicle's that use the "flawed" window assembly's recalled before people really are hurt and/or killed.
Window regulator failure. window falls down into the door. i have had three windows to do this so far. i have replace only one and it broke again. can not afford to keep replacing faulty parts. *tr
2004 ford f150 window regulator , this is the second failure that i have had. the first happen as i was driving, there was a loud pop noise in the drivers door. the second time i was also driving and the rear right window just dropped down into the door. *tr
2004 f-150 passenger window just stopped working and is now stuck down and makes crackling noises. also the back glass sliding window works sometimes and other times gets stuck. ford has claimed no responsibility for this and yet there is over 1000 complaints regarding this issue. *tr
Two window regulator's broken in 6 days, i am only one of over 800 complaints on this website alone.. just think about how many thousands there must be that just go to the dealer and never take the time to go online to complain. i can see that ford as well as nhtsa has no plans to correct this safety issue. if someone knows of a good class action lawsuit lawyer let me know. i think we must need someone to die in an accident related to this issue before anything will be done. i should have never left toyota, i had three different toyota trucks and never saw a shop other than for an oil change. my 04 f150 had a transmission failure at 75,000 on the dot.. i have put over $5,000 of maintenance into my truck in the four years i have owned it. *tr
2004 ford f-150 windows failing, and falling down while traveling on interstate. (multiple windows within two days) voltage regulator failure. (3 windows in two days). *tr
My ford f-150 drivers window popped extremely loud and fell into the door. i was driving on the highway when this took place and it made me jerk the wheel because i thought another car had hit me. i have done some research on this and it appears this is a systemic problem with ford. i would consider this a serious safety issue with the ford product. the window just falls for no reason and apparently the dealer is taking advantage of the situation and over charging. according to the web discussions, countless complaints have been made with ford and ntsb over this issue. this makes both organizations liable because of notifications made. ignorance is not an excuse! this is not an isolated issue but systemic with ford. just read some of the stories posted and you will be alarmed at the incidents. as always, until a deaths are recorded, this matter will be shelved. the consumer should be recognized since we are the ones paying for the products and supporting business. i will also being posting this on the nbc news website as well. *tr
2004 ford f-150 this is the third time three separate incidents where my windows first the passenger rear window then the drive window now its the passenger on the drive side all occurred within a year had two windows replaced at a whooping $450 at a ford dealer. *tr
2004 ford f150 motor regulator failure on all 4 windows over the course of 2 years, after mfg warranty has expired. window suddenly falls into the door, leaving the glass portion down, and open to weather or theft. i've had 2 fall while driving, and 2 fall at night, while the truck was parked outside, leaving it open to theft of the car or contents. each window repair exceeds $400. the info in this complaint reflect the most recent window failure, which is window #4 since i have owed this truck. also, all electric window switches in the car have failed and needed to be replaced. *tr
About one month ago, 2004 f150 back front driver side window fell because the regulator stopped working. i big pop was heard before the window started to fall. i had it repaired for about $300. yesterday, my back passenger side window fell because the regulator broke. it is currently clamped with wedges so the window will not fall. *tr
Rear driver side window regulator failed and window dropped while driving. *tr
2004 ford f150 window regulator failure. i had two window failures in the same day, and had one fixed this past july 2010. this is three window regulator failures in a matter of 3 months. according to the web this has happened alot to ford trucks and should have a recall due to the regulator failures! *tr
I was driving my ford f-150 pickup into my garage. i pushed the window button to roll down my window and my window dropped to the bottom of my door in a split second. i heard the window glass break. i will be contacting the dealer tomorrow to get the window replaced along with the defective window regulator. i will likely have to have all 4 regulators replaced so this doesn't happen while i am driving or while my vehicle is sitting unattended in a parking lot. *tr
Two window regulator assembly on my 2004 f-150 pick-up truck have failed resulting in the window falling unexpectedly will driving. *tr
Hello i own a 2004 f150 i was driving and my drivers side window slid down for no reason i researched the problem and found that this is a common problem among 2004 f150 trucks the window regulator has a plastic part that fails i was lucky that it was a clear day if i had been driving in snow or other heavy inclement weather i would have been in trouble is this agency investigation this issue? i have been told that eventually all four of my windows will fail sincerely [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 ford f-150. while driving approximately 35 mph the front passenger side window fell down into the door panel. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where he was informed the window regulator motor and the vehicle was in the process of being repaired. the failure and current mileages were 57,500. the vin was unavailable.
no significant events lead up to.... 3 out of 4 windows on my 2004 ford f150 fx4 had to be replaced because out of the blue they come crashing down. i have spent about 700 dollars so far on this defect and have to go in tomorrow to get my passenger side window fixed which will put me over 1000. ford needs to recall these window regulators and i should get every penny i have spent on these pathetic devices back. come on ford, really? i feel like i and everybody else in this same situation have been taken advantage of for ford to make an extra buck. who is going to be the one to raise the [xxx] flagged and take ford to the bank on this one. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
I have a 2004 ford f-150 truck, and while my wife was driving to work one morning wham the drivers side window came crashing down and she nearly wrecked due to the scare. my complaint is the regulator has gone out. i looked into having this repaired and was shocked as to how many complaints their were on this exact same issue. i have had to replace the regulator and am wondering what it will take before ford or nhtsa does something "recall" . i pray that it does not take the loss of life to have this piece of plastic replaced. *tr
I came outside to find that my passenger sine window was down. i went to try to roll it up and all i heard was the window motor. after further inspection, it was discovered that a plastic piece that hold the window regulator cable had broke. i am lucky that nobody had stolen my belongings. and what if it had happened when driving down the road and the window were to fall into the door and caused an accident? after researching this problem there have been thousands of complaints. *tr
Power window regulator failure on both driver and passenger side windows of 2004 ford 150 super cab. a total of 3 failures have occurred in the past 2 years (2 driver side and 1 passenger side). the two most recent failures occurred this month within 3 days of each other. the window fails without warning and falls down inside of the door. this can be a problem if the failure occurs during inclement weather. in order to make the window stay up, the door has to be disassembled and something placed in the door to hold the window up until parts can be ordered and installed. i have used a 2 x 4 and zip ties as a temporary fix to hold the window up inside the door until parts are obtained and the repairs made. my temporary fix keeps the window up, but there is no way to let the window down in the event of an emergency. but having the window stuck in the up position is much better than leaving the window down and risking damage to the interior from weather or theft. *tr
2004 ford f-150 crew cab windows failed. the first happened while driving on an interstate at 70mph; there was a loud noise like a rock hit the passenger door, and the window fell into the door frame. cost to repair: $385. today the driver side window failed in the same manner. i understand from the internet, that this is a failure of the electric window regulator. apparently, ford refuses to acknowledge this as a defect. *tr
I was driving my 2004 f150 on the highway. at speed there was a very loud pop and the window fell into the door (i found out later). i had thought it shattered. startled, i swerved. it could have been bad. later i found out it was the window regulator, come to find out this is one of the biggest failure items on the 2004. f150. this is a hazard and ford knows about it. they should own up and fix it. *tr
3 power window regulators replaced on my f-150 super cab ford lariat truck...driving down the road on 3 separate occasions and wham the window drops down in the door. happened in 2007, 2009, 2010. $350 each time to get fixed. i'm sure a major thorough investigation regarding the window regulator issue with ford would turn up 1000's upon 1000's of incidents and replacements. this is an obvious problem. while i blame ford corp, i have a problem with the dealer saying it's not a ford problem and that ford has to use the company in mexico they use to replace the windows per the dept of transportation. *tr
The window/motor regulator assembly failed in both my drivers door and rear passenger door within months of each other. both times i was on highways or toll roads when the windows fell in the door and i was unable to pull off to remedy the situation. after searching for remedies online i have found that this a common problem with ford trucks. why hasn't ford offered a recall for this failure. when my drivers door window fell i was doing 50 mph on a toll road in the middle of a heavy rain storm. i consider this a safety hazard. *tr
I have lost 4 window regulators over the space of 2 years. i have replaced the drivers front , pass front twice pass rear once. i currently have a broom handle holding up drivers rear. this has gotten very old and tiresome. i worked for ford dealerships for 27 years and i am very disappointed with the apparent disregard of quality is job 1. *tr
Power window regulator failure. plastic part cracks that is attached to the regulator motor which guides the window cable. resulting in the window dropping down inside the door panel. failure occurs approximately every 6-12 months. failure has occurred in all four doors. new replacement window regulator is required to repair the problem. *tr
The drivers side power window came down on its own and would not go back up, i took off the trim covers and was braided wire all over the place, i ordered a regulator to install but after another 2 days the rear passenger widow did they exact same thing.......i am still waiting on part for the first window but seems insane that the same thing would happen on another window just 2 days apart this is definitely a design flaw and should be addressed before someone gets hurt or something gets stolen because of it. *tr
While driving the passenger window on my 2004 ford f-150 fell into the door. *tr
Faulty window regulator components. i replaced driver side, rear passenger (2004 f150 lariat crew cab) window regulator. seemed to be an old part that had to be replaced, until a few months, the passenger side, rear passenger window regulator also failed. now it is a concern. the reason for the complaint now is because my 3rd regulator busted, this time it was the front passenger window regulator that failed. now this really presents a problem and this needs to be recalled. the only one left to fail is my driver door. the master switch was also replaced at the same time the 1st incident occurred, so that can be ruled out. in all instances, i heard a sound coming from the window regulator motor, following with a sudden drop of the windows. call me lucky but none of the windows shattered from the fall into the door compartment. looks like for d beefed up on the pulley assembly of the new, replacement window regulators. seeking repairs of new incidents and reimbursement for replaced parts. *tr
3rd power window regulator failure in 1.5 yrs on 2004 ford f-150 supercrew truck. when regulator fails, it sounds as though someone struck or shot the window causing me to jump and take my eyes off the road to see what had happened and if any passengers were injured almost causing me to collide with an on-coming vehicle. i have had two of the regulators replaced by a local paint and body shop where i was told that it is a known problem with the regulators. my cost to date has been in excess of $350 and i now have two suction cups holding one window up until i can afford to have it repaired. *tr
My f150 has had three of the four power window mechanisms fail. the drivers window failed in 9/2008 at 53000 while being used at an atm. the rear passenger window failed in april 2010 at 75,000 miles. this window went down on its own suddenly without pressing the switch. this failure occurred while driving at highway speeds. the front passenger window failed in sept 2010 at 85000 miles. this window went down suddenly on its own without pressing the switch. the failure occurred while driving on an on-ramp and merging into traffic. the sudden and unexpected nature of the last 2 failures are a safety hazard due to the distraction caused while driving. the failures occurred beyond the warranty period, so ford would not provide any support. i ordered new window regulators and replaced them myself. the parts from the third failure are available. *tr
2004 ford f-150 power window regulator broke on the passenger's side of the vehicle. the driver side broke last year. when the regulator breaks, a loud pop occurs. this is really a safety hazzard. *tr
Window regulator on my 2004 f-150 broke - luckily it occurred when the window was already down (not closed). i have been told this is a defect in the 2004 models, yet no recalls? i have kids and am afraid something bad can happen in the future if this hazard is indeed recurring. *tr
2004 ford f150 supercrew drivers window regulator broken. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2004 ford f150 . while driving at 5 mph the driver's side front window made a loud pop noise and fell down. this has been the third time that the contact has replaced windows on the vehicle due to them falling . the dealer had not been contacted and the window had not been replaced at the time of the complaint. the failure mileage was 35000 and the current mileage was 73000.
While i was driving the truck on local roads, the passenger side electrically controlled window which was fully up suddenly slowly receded down into the door of the truck and now cannot be raised back up. the window is not broken, and the noise when i press the window control seems to indicate that the motor is still working properly. i have called several repair shops (and the dealer), and the conclusion so far (hearing the description but without inspecting the vehicle) is that the window regulator needs to be replaced. *tr
