Problems with 2015 Ford Explorer UNKNOWN OR OTHER

On average, the 2015 Ford Explorer starts to “feel” problems with the UNKNOWN OR OTHER and its various aspects after 28 831 miles.

Recently reported UNKNOWN OR OTHER problems on 2015 Ford Explorer

I keep smelling exhaust fumes inside the vehicle when the engine is running.

Shortly after purchasing my ford explorer i noticed the smell of exaust entering the cabin. initially i thought was other cars around me. after exsperiencing several headaches i then decided to check the vehicle for carbon monoxide and it was present.

Car smells like exhaust, the smell is like egg or something dead the key won't come out of the ignitiononce i got the key out the car electrical was still on, the key was out but everything was on and beeping (electrical problems that ongoing) was having problems with the breaks, have taken vehicle in a few times regarding this issue the driver side window won't go down and keeps shaking while going down. one in a while i still hear a tapping sound under driver seat the air conditioner in the car takes 5 to 10 minutes to get cool in the vehicle i have all service reports and can provide more information in a report i have and can send video that have been taken of these issues. thank you

While driving slowly an error displayed on my dash display, it was terrain management system fault. the vehicle went into limp mode and seemed to lose power steering. the terrain management knob light went out. i called the dealership here in mountain home arkansas and was told to drive it until it did it again and bring it in without shutting it off. the service person said that several people in the area were doing this for the same issue. i saw on the internet that it looked like it is occurring a lot, sometimes when vehicles are traveling at high speeds. i called ford customer service and they gave me the same story. drive it or pay them to troubleshoot it at $90 an hour. it sounded to me like ford needs to fix the problem instead of sending people on to possibly be hurt or killed if the error happens at a high speed or on a dangerous curve.

The explorer still has a strong exhaust smell in the cabin when accelerating hard. the explorer has had all of the ford recalls, including a new exhaust system and sealing of the rear seams and replacement of various water drain plugs.

While driving from new hampshire to new york city and further onto new jersey, i suddenly noticed that the lines started moving weirdly and that things just weren't normal. i was disoriented and was having trouble concentrating on driving and staying in my lane. so i rolled down the windows to let the fresh air in and the possible carbon monoxide out. i fought through the next 15 or 20 minutes of disorientation and periods of hallucinations to get to nyc safe, but still slightly out of it. four days later, i was in the middle of nowhere, the rain was pouring down making it difficult to see already and the that's when the hallucinations started again. the lines seemed to be running past me and i didn't feel like i was moving, sort of like on a treadmill or something. i was confused, dizzy, my vision was blurred, i was having trouble breathing and it felt like my throat was burning. i didn't notice any smells though, my first clue to the poisoning was the hallucinations. now i immediately rolled the windows down in the pouring rain to try and get some fresh air in the vehicle and pushed my face towards the window. i was in a panic that the issue would get worse and that i would possibly pass out or swerve into oncoming traffic. but the torrential downpour outside made it unsafe to pull onto the small shoulder of the road and there were no buildings to stop in, so i just kept the windows down with the rain coming in and kept driving, still suffering from the symptoms. even after being back in my apartment and opening all the windows to get some fresh air in, i was still having trouble breathing, my chest felt heavy, i was having trouble completing basic tasks and was dizzy. i decided to go to the er where i was treated for carbon monoxide poisoning and discharged.

My father has passed out twice both while driving 2 different years of a ford explorer and doctor's were unable to find a medical cause. the first accident in august he spent 3 days in icu undergoing multiple tests, the second accident on october 8th left him with 9 broken ribs(some in multiple places), a broken scapula and his #3 lumbar is fractured along with a week in icu. he has been through every test that the doctor's can think of and are unable to give an explanation as to why he passed out while he was driving. he has now been admitted to a skilled care facility due to so many broken bones. he was on a major highway in motion when he went unconscious both times totaling both vehicles. he remembers getting in the car and starting to drive and then nothing. he is a healthy 71 year old male who has no medical issues that would cause this. the first accident was on august 7th in a 2016 explorer and the second accident was on 10-8-17 in a 2015 explorer

Airbag light has come on for the second time. the vehicle is currently at approxi mately 62,000 miles. the previous time the airbag came on was for defective seatbelts with the airbags in passenger compartment. also, a smell of sulfur is coming from the air vents when the air conditioning is on. the smell is strongest when the car is stationary. when the car is traveling at highway speeds without a/c on, there is no odor.

Ford explorer police was stationary on us highway 59 north. the police officer in the driver seat lost consciousness for approximately one hour and 30 minutes. another officer checked on the unconscious officer and found him to be not alert and un responsive, therefore he summoned ems and removed the unconscious officer from the explorer. ems was able to gain consciousness of the officer but he was disoriented, unaware of where he was and who he was. officer was placed on oxygen and transported to local emergency room where his arterial blood was taken. arterial blood was found to have approximately 20% concentration of carbon monoxide. arterial blood was taken approximately one hour after being removed from the explorer and 40 minutes of being administered oxygen by ems.

Exhaust smell comes out of ac vent when the vehicle is driven under high rpm conditions (3500 plus), driving uphill, and hard acceleration. vehicle is a 2015 ford explorer base model. ford dealer in alexandria, va (ourisman ford) checked vehicle when suv was under 5000 miles. told us that it is normal. vehicle has 36k miles now and still has that exhaust smell under said driving conditions. i was told by dealer service adviser at last oil change that only police cars have this issue. a quick search on the internet as well as nhtsa states a lot of complaints about this from non-police cars. exhaust sometimes smells like sulfur (rotten egg) smell.

I received a letter from ford company (this was only after i had made a call to ford) concerning carbon monoxide. i have experienced physical affects from possible carbon monoxide poisoning. i got the letter to bring vehicle in to get fixed with no charge to me. it is now feb. and the issue has yet to be fixed. therefore i have been driving the vehicle with my daughter (who has a chronic illness) without using heat or a/c, due to the possibility of carbon monoxide poisoning. ford still refusing to do a recall, while we as customers are suffering everyday because of the 'almighty dollar', it is not right!!!! please force ford motor company to make this right and to start thinking of their customers safety and well being.

When driving, there's an odor that sometimes get really strong. you can really smell it when the ac is on recirculate. it so bad at times, i have to roll down the windows. my wife has been getting head aches from riding in the car as well. we have 3 children, this is getting to be a serious concern to us l, as it could be harming our children. it happens all the time at any speed.

I purchased my vehicle in 03/2015. i notified the dealership of a funny odor and was told it was because the car was new, but that it would go away. as of today, the odor remains. in the fall of 2015, we drove to my inlaws house who lives approximate 25-30 miles from our home. my granddaughter who was riding on the third row seat was hard to wake up when we got home. she was very drowsy. after getting her in the house and preparing her for bed, i noticed she wasn't breathing and her eyes began to flutter. she was taken to the hospital by ambulance. we learned she had a seizure. her brother on that same night began throwing up, but we thought it was due to nerves. test were conducted, but didn't really tell us nothing. on 12/24/17, we took a road trip that lasted more than 4 hours due to traffic. my family was very sleepy and some complained of headaches. two days later we were back in the car shopping and sightssightseeing, when my granddaughter who was on the back seat became unresponsive. we took her to the emergency room and was informed she had another seizure. they ran test and when we returned home, her primary care doctor had more test ran. on 09/02/2017, we took a vacation (3 hr drive) and the kids sat on the 2nd row seat. my grandson vomitted and my granddaughter cried while complaining of a bad headache. we experienced the same thing after returning home. called her aftercare advise and was advised to give her tylenol. after seeing nbc4 carbon monoxide report, i called them. my truck was tested and confirmed the carbon monoxide is coming into the cabin of the car. it was suggested that i not drive the car. i called the dealership and was advise they are not addressing the issue and that i should call ford motor company. i've placed two calls with no response from them. i'm concerned and fearful.

We have an exhaust leak in our vehicle new exhaust system done once, sealed 3x. ford corporate or dealership will not work with us to replace the vehicle. all happened under original manufacturer warranty. exhaust comes into passenger cabin upon excelling. now we have to drive with a window open as to know be consumed by carbon monoxide. spouse has had mri for dizziness, confusion, headaches. testing came back normal but no blood work was done for carbon monoxide poisioning.

Vehicle leaking exhaust into cabin!! while in motion with ac on after 1 hour or more drive on highway--symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning present. brought into ford dealer who gave me the run around about mouldings. either way, myself and my infant have been exposed to lace on monoxide while driving this vehicle that we purchased less than 1.5 years ago. have experienced these symptoms a number or times, like while pregnant but thought it was morning sickness u til this summer when i was physically ill twice as a result of highway travel.

On 08-12-17 i pulled into my driveway an turn my steering wheel locked up and i could not turn it.. i shut down the car and restartd it .it had reset if this had happened on the highway someone could have been killed. i will take the car to ford on 8-14-17 to see if they will help and fix it.

We were driving down the highway and my husband noted an exhaust odor when he accelerated to pass another car. we continued to smell the odor regardless of the air conditioning being on or off.

Driver lost consciousness while car in motion on highway, struck pole, totaled car. have since learned about problems with exhaust system in this make/ model. unfortunately did not know at the time to be checked for carbon monoxide. concerned about potential for injury to other owners/passengers or people sharing the road. *bf updated 8/22/18*jb

There is a recall concerning the carbon monoxide exposure

Carbon monoxide leak/odor

While driving on the highway i passed out and drove off the highway. i was jolted awake after hitting bumps on the side on the road. i forced a semi off the road. regained control and stopped at the next exit. took car to ford dealer and found tsb 16-0165 related to issue. had car repaired, i'm not really sure if it is fixed.

Exhaust fumes fill cabin under hard acceleration. it has happened many times over the past few years, we purchased car new in ~ may 2015. typically we can limit by accelerating slower than desired, which can be unsafe when entering the highway. after hard acceleration has ended and you maintain steady speed the fumes no longer seem to enter the cabin. fumes can be very strong and rolling down windows is the only way to clear. it seems to mostly happen with rear air conditioning in turned on, but not sure. i put todays date below, but this happens often. i have read online and spoken to dealers in the past and no fix seems to be available so we have done are best to avoid with slow acceleration, but we can not be certain that no fumes are entering car. both my wife and i seem to get more head aches than in the past and this could be the cause.

When the throttle is depressed fully during passing or increasing speed there is a odor inside the cabin of vehicle. it happens every time the throttle is fully depressed.

I'm in my explorer sometimes for about 10 to 13 hours a day for my job for the last year i have been battling health problems light headedness and low blood pressure the doctors have been running test everything came back o.k. have always smelled an order in my car sometimes but i wasn't aware of the issues now i take my explorer in for service every 8 weeks and i was never asked if there was an smell or anything and now i see they possible could of done some repairs under a silent tsb nothing was never done i brought this up to my doctor and they believe this could be the problem unfortunately to test for co poisoning i have to go for test when i feel dizzy and weak.im going to take it to the dealer to see what they say but this should have been told to the car owners.

Within the first month of purchase of my brand new 2015 explorer we started smelling an odd order coming into the cabin of the vehicle any time you accelerated. it would be extremely bad when on the highway trying to pass another car that you would have to roll the windows down. i made an appointment and took it in and was told that they couldn't replicate the issue. i asked if they took it out on the highway and was told no. i think the dealership i used was biased against women and they dismissed my claim. i finally had to take it to another dealership who found a "fix" and just installed the new parts a month ago. i just took a 329 mile trip and the issue still exists. i have called again for another appointment and am waiting to take it in. i'm concerned that my youngest child who sits i the back seat keeps getting sick to his stomach when riding in the car. i'm afraid he's getting carbon monoxide poisoning. let me make clear the smell is worse in the back cabin of the car, but the front passengers get it as well. it took over two months for ford to put the new parts on my car and i'm concerned it's going to take another few months to get something else done to "fix" the issue. something needs to be done as these cars aren't safe to drive and i can't afford to buy a new one. i will be upside down if i try to trade this in. this only happens when the car is being driven and the accelerator is being pushed.

I purchased a 2015 ford explorer and i am experiencing the same exhaust smell issue in the cabin that law enforcement is experiencing. my daughter has complained about head aches on even short around town trips. it does not matter if the windows are up or down, fumes still enter the cabin and causes illness if we are in the vehicle for any period of time. during the winter time or rainy periods obviously we cannot have the windows down due to rain, snow or cold weather here in the midwest.. i do not think its right for ford to fix the interceptors and note the consumer model. the interceptors recall are even partially due to a 3 party vendor modifying the vehicle. i think a total recall needs to happen for the explorer. regular citizens are also getting sick especially during longer stop and go trips when the windows cannot be down to vent the exhaust gasses. there has not been a specific date this happens, issue is on going. happens at various speeds and has been an issue since the vehicle was purchased.

Ford motor company (ford) is recalling certain wheel hub bearing assemblies, part number hb5z-1104-c, incorrectly listed as being for installation on the rear axles of 2011-2017 ford explorer 4x2 vehicles. these bearings assemblies were manufactured without a self retention feature, possibly resulting in the separation of the wheel or wheel end. is nootgood

Exhaust smell while driving. exhaust fumes entering inside of vehicle. have to drive with a window down to avoid the smell/fumes. this happens consistently and is worse on longer trips.

The vehicle was tested and found to have 30 ppm of co in the vehicle while in operation.

Co2 leaking into the cabin of our vehicle. we have installed a co2 detector that has gone off twice since we have owned the vehicle. called ford twice, had it serviced once and it is still an issue.

Law enforcement vehicle receiving high carbon monoxide level readings (10+ parts per million) in passenger cabin upon hard acceleration (from complete stop to 100+ mph) with the air conditioning system on with the recirculation function activated. 322

2015 ford explorer police vehicle was leaking carbon monoxide into cabin of vehicle. ford said their was a bulletin but no recall for the problem. the cost to get it fixed was 691.15. it is unknown if vehicle was in motion or stationary.

Heavy exhaust odor no matter if a/c is in recirculate or outside air.occurs when car is driving or stopped

Can smell exhaust in the cabin of the vehicle ford has attempted to repair once and the truck will be dropped off for the second time

Odor in cabin happens under various speeds and driving conditions my wife has an allergic reaction to this odor. her throat starts to close up and it restricts her airway. she has to roll down windows at the first sign of odor to limit these affects. this all started in july 2017 and first reported to the dealer on july 6,2017. ford has made numerous attempts to repair the vehicle. the most recent trip for repairs resulted in the dealership being advised by ford's office of general counsel to release vehicle to customer with no repairs. without being redundant i have attached a letter to ogc subsequent to their releasing the unrepaired vehicle to us. to date we have had no response and/or any direct communication with ford's ogc.

I just read a usa today article concerning the ford explorer and carbon monoxide poisoning. as i read it, i immediately knew this is what sickened my family during our vacation last summer. this happened over our extended travel from fort riley, ks to las vegas, nv. my older son complained of headaches and vomited several times. we could not determine what was wrong with him at the time.

Carbon monoxide like leak into the cabin ford did not fix when we went to the dealership

Exhaust oder in passenger cabin when accelerating. 6 time in the shop. oder is getting more intense and heavier as time passes. local ford dealer refuses to service my car and said no fix is available at this time. local dealer said ford will not reimburse for repair. last repair 6/28/2017 this problem has been in the car from before 10,000 miles.

Sometimes it smells like exhaust fumes or hair burning fumes are entering the cab. this has been happening for over a year.

Exhaust system leaking to passenger cabin. smell of fuel and exhaust. service x3, problem remains.

When vehicle accelerates fumes enter the cabin forcing me to open the window. it smells like exhaust and gives me a migraine. this happens at every acceleration.

I put a carbon monoxide detector in my car in may. it has went off twice since june. have taken to the shop twice with nothing to fix it.

My daughter was driving my vehicle for several months. during this time she had headaches, nausea, and severe fatigue. while driving she passed out at the wheel, ran off the road and hit a guardrail. after a multitude of medical tests we realized that it must have been carbon monoxide poisoning from the exhaust of my vehicle that caused her to feel bad and then pass out. see also odi 11047890. *bes

I was driving on a city street and passed out at the wheel. i ran off the road and hit a guardrail. i had nausea, headaches, and extreme fatigue for several months prior to this incident as well as this day. at the time, i had not heard of the issues some explorers had with exhaust. after having to have many tests run by a cardiologist and neurologist, nothing was found. i heard of the exhaust issue on the news one night and a light went off. i believe my sickness and passing out was due to carbon monoxide poisoning. see also odi 11048095. *bes

Poisonous exhaust leaking into cabin of the vehicle. took it to berge ford. they supposedly fixed it but it did not get rid of the leak so we took it back. it is currently in the shop at berge again while the technicians talk with ford specialists to figure out how to fix it. i had to pay $100 so far for a deductable for the repairs. this should be a recal!!!! my son and i get frequent headaches when driving because of the noxious fumes!!!! i am stuck in a tiny rental car until this is fixed. ford needs to do something about this problem. we took the shop forman and service technician with us to smell the exhaust fumes and they agreed there is a significant exhuast smell in the vehicle and it is unexceptable!!!!!

I am experiencing some type of unusual odor in the cabin of my 2015 ford explorer vehicle usually when the engine is put under hard acceleration like climbing a steep hill or accelerating to get onto a highway. this cabin odor issue has been happening since the vehicle was new. it most recently happened yesterday. i currently have 46,000 on the vehicle. thank you.
