Power steering goes out while driving. 2013 ford explorer, 86,000 miles. my wife was driving around a curve, going about 45 miles per hour on a highway, when it first went out. the steering wheel jerked itself back to the center and my wife had to slam on the brakes and force the wheel to steer safely to the side of the road. the screen shows atc needs to be serviced. codes shown are : c1b00-steering angle sensor u0131- lost communication with power steering module my vehicle is now unsafe to drive. there is a recall for earlier manufacture dates concerning what seems to be the same issue.
Back in october 2016 i moved my explorer in my drive way everything was fine next day couldn't drive or move it the power assist was beeping on the dash steering wheel don't even move wheels don't move .... $2000 and up to fix it not everyone can afford that and it has to be taking to a ford dealership!!so it still sits in my drive way today i have ask ford motor to help that didn't happen .......
We drove from austin to fort worth, no problem, stopped a few hours at our hotel, then got back in car, started it and could not turn the wheel or move the car. thankfully we were stationary.
While driving our 2013 explorer on i 95 we lost power steering, warning light came on and driving became extremely difficult. we were driving the speed limit of 70 mph and reduced speed. made it home, parked and turned off vehicle. restarted vehicle and had total loss of steering. steering wheel locked completely. vehicle was towed to dealership where purchased. steering gear assembly had to be replaced due to power steering gear has internal fault. we have been told our vehicle vin # is not currently on the recall list.

Power steering went out, unable to drive vehicle anywhere. very dangerous, could have caused a wreck.
The power steering assist has defaulted numerous times and locked my steering wheel up. turning the car off and back on has resolved the matter for now, but i am afraid it will lock up while driving at a higher rate of speed. the service advance trac warning has also come up a couple of times. all 4 of the steering defects have occurred between the dates of september 1st and september 5th, 2016.

Steering fails on the highway. the service power assist and service advance trac warnings come on. the vehicle looses power steering assist and it will not reset by turning the vehicle off. the blinkers will also not work when this error happens. it has already been to the dealer to be "reprogrammed" but that fix only lasted 1 1/2 days. vehicle is now undrivable without replacing the unit, which is under recall for 1.5 million other ford vehicles.
36,000 miles on my 2013 ford explorer. started up my car and went to back up and i had no power steering. my car was built after the cut off of the re-call and will be having it looked at and fixed on monday. ford needs to extend the re-call to later models as this problem is effecting a lot more fords then they thought. this is out right wrong of ford.
The electric power steering quit working on my car. there was a recall for my car's year model for this issue, however, ford said it does not cover the month my car was manufactured. i have taken my car to a ford dealership who told me they verified that it was the exact same problem that the recalled vehicles had. i then opened up a case number with ford and after a month of waiting they said they would not be covering this defect. the car is extremely hard to steer and sometimes near impossible. i feel this is a safety concern that should be taken seriously. however, ford does not seem to care.
Vehicle was parked and when i started to back up the message center displayed and flashed power assist and the steering was difficult to turn. i pulled forward into the parking space, shut the car off and restarted the vehicle. at this point the power steering retuned and i drove it to the dealership. ford has a recall for similar 2011-2013 explorers but the vin code series on my explorer does not fall under the current recall which is #14s06. i have attached a service invoice of the repairs done which are the exact repairs the recall #14s06 calls for.
I have a 2013 ford explorer with 44,000 miles and sent it to the dealer. the dealer said the power steering gear box is not functioning and needs to be replaced. there is a recall on ford explorer's for the 2011-2013 models for the "power steering assist fault", which did come on and the power steering failed in my vehicle. i contact ford directly and they were of no help and offered no assistance.
Driving approx 45mph through town on a multi-lane roadway, steering became virtually impossible, nearly locking up. was able to maneuver vehicle off the road without damage or injury. vehicle was towed by towing company to nearest ford dealership awating evaluation/repair at this time.
Complete loss of power steering while driving. i momentarily felt panicked inside, my children were in the car and we were going 70. turned the car off and restarted and it drove. i took the vehicle in to the dealership and it seemed fine. 9 months later (april 2016) it happened again driving 45mph in heavy traffic with my children in the car. i was able to force the car to the side of the freeway and calm down. the car would barely steer. it was harder to maneuver than driving an older vehicle without power steering. it was just short of being locked up. again it reset after turning on and off about 5 times. it was evening and i decided it had to go back to the shop the next day. the following day it was locked up completely and not drivable. i had it towed to the dealership as it was not drivable and unsafe. the power steering assist and traction assist alerts stayed up- both functions showing off.

When driving this vehicle the steering seems to "stick" and when you apply more pressure to move the steering wheel, the vehicle jerks and darts you into the other lane at highway speeds. this is very dangerous when driving in close proximity to other vehicles such as construction zones or narrow rural roads with oncoming traffic.
The "power steering fault" light was on when i was driving. and i lost steering ability at all. i managed to drive to the nearest ford dealer, and they wanted to charge me $1800 for replacement. this is because somehow i wasn't included in the recall for power steering. this is absurd!
Paint bubbles on hood inside and out with corrosion, 2) power steering failing, recall for issue in effect, but, not mine have to pay $2000 for repairs, unable to steer while driving low speed

While driving approximately 70mph on a major highway the power steering shutdown and the vehicles steering became extremely stiff to the point you could hardly turn the steering wheel.i brought the vehicle to ford to have it inspected , they informed me nothing was wrong and all it needed was to be reset. within 10 days of leaving the dealership service the vehicle again started to have the same problem nearly causing an accident. i took the vehicle to ford once again, this time they had advised that the entire power steering assembly need to be replaced . within doing research 2011-2013 ford explorers have this same power steering issue, under recall. ford refuses to fix my vehicle under the recall due to vin restrictions. this is dangerous and negligent to say the least.
Steering assist fault light comes on when i crank my 2013 ford explorer. the steering wheel is locked and won't turn when i try to leave a location. i have to switch the vehicle off and restart it in order for it to reset.

I was backing up from parking spot in a city garage and when i place the car in drive my power assisted steering (epas) failed. i got the power steering fault error, advancetrac error and terrain management error. the car was too difficult to manually steer actually nearly impossible. it took almost 1 hour and 2 grown big men to manually steer it out of the garage so that it could be put onto a flat bed tow truck. ford claims that my vin# number is not part of the recall (14s06) for this issue. the dealership that i had it towed to has quoted me around $2,000 to replace the steering rack. this is definitely a safety hazard and ford need to takes responsibility and correct this issue.
While driving and making a turn the power steering locks up with an error code stating "power steering assist fault" in my experience this happened when backing out of the driveway and now it happened while driving and making a left hand turn to cross a busy intersection. the only thing that releases the steering is to put the vehicle in park and restart the vehicle. my vehicle does not fall under the recall however, it's the same exact problem yet, ford "has never heard of it" i have children and i fear that ford won't fix the problem or do anything about it until it's too late and we are in a fetal accident. i refuse to drive my vehicle as it's unsafe and i will not put my kids life at risk. help!!
Takata inflators, i bought my 2013 ford explorer in july of 2015. by november 2015 my car had been making very loud scraping noises every time i turned right or left. i brought it to the ford dealer that i bought it from to get it checked out. the dealership had to replace the steering rack, which fixed the problem. however, it was not covered under any warranty or recall. in researching online i found that some 2013 ford explorers have had the same problem and are covered under an active recall. mine still is not!!! i have 2 small children and was told that it needed to get fixed asap otherwise my steering wheel could freeze up, which would cause an accident and put our lives in danger. i am very upset with this as i had to pay $1561.00 out of pocket and our lives were in danger!!!!
Loss of power steering. after experiencing loss of power steering on multiple occasions i performed online research and became aware of safety recall 14s06. i contacted ford for resolution and they informed me my vehicle is not subject to recall. the vehicle with some 19,000 miles is our of warranty (>36 months). ford indicated that any repairs for this dangerous condition would be at owner expense. the vehicle was produced on the assembly line in chicago which was the origin of the vehicle defect which prompted the recall. however, it appears to have been assembled approximately 1 month after the recall cut-off. i contend that the defect was still present and the recall should be broadened. this is a serious defect with potential life threatening consequences. ford has been unreceptive in even investigating the matter. the vehicle was moving on the occasions when the power steering failed, while negotiating a curve. my professional driver indicated that the car had to be stopped and the vehicle restarted to reset the power steering. no driver feedback of a trouble code.
As reported to ford: what is your vehicle sales or service issue?:vin: ifm5k8d85dga40422 2013 ford explorer - i recently shipped my 2013 ford explorer to azerbaijan where i am serving the u.s. government. i hired a driver who conveyed a problem to me regarding the power steering and sync system. after doing some online research, i became aware of the recall for power steering problems which seem to fit the symptoms related to me. i did not receive any type of notice from ford regarding this serious condition. also, the sync system is buggy. i was informed some time ago of a fuel system recall (i believe). the vehicle has 19,750 miles. a vehicle tire sensor fault has recently displayed. there is a ford dealership in baku azerbaijan where i live. the explorer is part of their product line. please inform me what i can expect from ford to resolve the issues disclosed here either under warranty, recall obligation, or customer care (without expense to me). further, i would appreciate if ford u.s. would coordinate those resolution efforts. what action has your dealer taken to address the issue?:have not contacted dealer. suspect language barriers would complicate resolution efforts. what assistance are you seeking from ford motor company?:coordinate all necessary repairs to be performed by the baku azerbaijan ford dealer. provide a loaner car while vehicle is being repaired. be more proactive in informing customers of potentially serious defects that have resulted in recall. are you the owner of the vehicle :yes vin : ifm5k8d85dga40422 mileage : 19,748 where is your vehicle now : inpossession have you contacted the dealer :no dealer name :ford baku azerbaijan
Driving vehicle through intersection, turning, , lost power steering, and temporarily lost control of vehicle. was able to muscle it to the side of the road. display made a chime noise, and stated "power assist failure" ( or something to that effect). i pulled to the side of road, turned off vehicle, waited 2 min, started it again and it worked fine. found there is a recall "14s06" for exact model and year with exact description of my failure. took vehicle to closest ford dealer, they said it is covered under recall and there would be no charge as this is a safety issue. after numerous calls back and forth with dealer and ford, ford claims this vin is not covered. i have paperwork from the dealer that shows part number needed is for the steering gear # db5z-3504-ne, which is the part number in the recall. i am unable to find a vin # list as it appears ford does not have one and they decide when you call who gets the recall and who does not. there is no transparency in such as system. if ford knows of this issue with this year and model and knows it's a safety issue that has resulted in accidents, per nhtsa, why am i being rejected for the exact safety issue on the exact model and year? can you please help?

I almost lost control of the car due to steering. the right front tire was wobbly and had no traction. the tires are in good shape. i have been having so much trouble out of the right front tire. it has been balanced and aligned 4 times, new brake pads, and rotors turned. no one can figure out what's wrong with the steering or the tire. it begins to shake uncontrollably. i have had it re-balance and each time no one can figure out why it keeps pulling to the right. i don't know if it is motor related, steering or the transmission. so frustrated. i just bought the car less than 3 months ago.
I have a ford explorer that was part of the 14s06 recall. before i purchased the vehicle from a ford dealership it was owned by enterprise rental, after they turned the car in tri county ford shows they performed the recall on the vehicle in 2014. they said they did the software download on the eps. i have since lost steering assist on my vehicle a number of times so i did some research and found this recall on my vehicle. after calling ford they authorized a local dealer to look at if and figure out what the problem was at no charge. the ford dealership says that they can not connect to the steering gear and that per the recall it should be replaced. ford is refusing to cover the recall and because they say that the recall has already been done (software download) and at the time of the recall being performed there were no dtc codes so the download should have fixed it. if it would have showed codes at the time of the software download they would have replaced the steering gear at that time. i feel that this should be covered as it part of the recall i have only owned the car for less than 3 months and this is a dangerous situation. after complaining to ford said they would cover 1/2 of the cost of repairs. but due to this being a safety recall i feel it should be covered 100%
Exiting from parking lot and speed of about 15 mph on a straight road, no pot holes, at about 100 ft from the parking exit, it hit an electric post. left front suspension, fender, wheels, pillars, rocker & floor, radiator support, front lamps, hood, steering rock, cradle, transmission transfer case, front door and many more damage. all are in left side. i checked the vin but it is not on recall for power steering problem however i suspect power steering was the caused of accident. it is a major damaged and the insurance is not yet decided if repair or total wreck. i asked the ford dealership to see on the diagnostic computer of the vehicle but up to now they have not yet check. *tr
