Complained of faulty power steering error message coming on when starting vehicle for 1.5 years to ford dealership with no exact response regarding the issue. they said they reset the system and it should work fine afterwards. the next day i still had the issue. i then complained again about it but it was in the shop for numerous issues and that was overlooked/ignored. my power steering has now gone out completely and the recalls for the power steering ended for explorers manufactured after feb. 2012 and mine was manufactured in dec. 2012. i asked if the dealership was required to report issues when customers bring their vehicle in to the shop and they said no. they are only reqiured to report them when they repair it or do work to it, not just assess that there is an issue. lesson learned, always report your issues here. my power steering could have gone out while driving but thank god it didn't. it went out as i was paying a bill and had turned my car off for less than 2 minutes. therefore, the vehicle was stationary. it is incredibly frustrating that they want me to pay for something that is a known ford issue and that my car is currently not able to be driven. much less, i have complained about the issue and they could have prevented it by letting me know the power steering fault is common and to get it repaired sooner rather than later to prevent a wreck.
It occurs 1 to 4 times while i'm driving. all of a suddenly the the gas pedal doesn't work and the terrain management system is off. i have to turn off the engine in the middle of the road in order for it to work again. also, there's a weird smell coming coming out when all windows are closed and the ac is on.
Natural gas smell on interior of vehicle especially when idling, gas smells like rotten eggs or sulfur. it causes me to get headaches and dizziness.
Exhaust smell in the cabin when driving. checked the door seals and other places where it could be coming from and found no breaks in them. that leaves the exhaust system could be leaking into the cabin
We have just become aware that exhaust gasses are leaking into the passenger compartment and apparently have been for some time, causing headaches, dizziness and eye irritation. we located a tsb from ford (tsb 16-0166) relating to the issue and became aware that ford had offered to fix the issue. both the center for auto safety and the nhtsa investigated this issue resulting in ford notifying owners of potentially affected vehicles offering to fix the issue for free. i never received a letter, and when i called the ford customer service line i was told that my vehicle's vin was not affected. with the leakage of the exhaust into the cabin i've earned the right to call bs. this is not the type of defect that will repair itself and presents a clear and present risk of serious injury or death, as evidenced by the multiple reports of crashes. this should never have been allowed to be swept under the rug and warrants a recall and inspection/repair of every vehicle in the category. date below is the date that we took it in to the ford dealership for diagnosis and repair, but the effects have been noticed for several weeks.
Smell of smoke, and tapping noise prior to fire. smoke came from near the center console between driver and passenger seat. fire started. made a complaint prior about smell of smoke and noise.
Tapping noise after turning car off. burning smell but no visible smoke.
For the last two month, my vehicle have had a oil burning smells, i changed the oil, but the smell is still there. this is right after i turn on the heat.
I have been smelling exhaust fumes in the cabin since purchasing the vehicle. this day i was getting a headache and felt like i was going to pass out. i pulled over shut off the engine and rolled down the windows before passing out. woke up 30 mins later. since then i have not driven the vehicle without the windows rolled down.
While driving the care begins to slow down even though i am hitting the accelerator and eventually comes to a complete stop where i have to pull off the side of the road and turn off the car and restart. then i will start driving and it will happen again. in a 10 minute drive the other day it turned off 3 times. haven't driven the car in over a week because i'm scared it will happen to me and cause an accident.
2013 ford explorer. consumer writes requesting any available information regarding vehicle. *ld *js
This dealing with the my sync (myford touch) . the system will will cause the screen to go black,it also will cause the a/c & heater, navigation, and radio to stop working. this happens while the vehicle is moving. to restore the system you have to pull over and reboot the system by turning off the vehicle. i just recieved a customer satisfaction program alert for ford on 5/25/2019. dealer will not repair because they clam that the program has expired. but i can have the repair done for the cost $1200.00
I noticed the outside trim around the sides of the windshield appeared loose on the driver but mostly passenger side of my car. a few weeks later when i started driving over 10 mph down the road, i heard a noise like something beating against my windshield. i noticed the rubber seal around the windshield and between the trim and the windshield had come off and was flapping in the wind against my windshield and car. the body trim is now loose as well. i had a little water even leak into the car. it was very distracting and almost caused my wreck. i had to temporarily tape the rubber trim down as it keeps coming loose and gets worse as you drive (which you have no choice when you are not close to home or can't get your vehicle in for repairs until weeks later).
Pillars flying off car and power transfer unit not working
I was driving my 2013 ford explorer and began to feel as if i was about to pass out. i pulled over a few times but i kept feeling worse. i parked and called a friend to take me to emergency. although i was shaking and felt faint, the doctors could not find a cause. hospitals do not test for carbon monoxide levels unless requested - at the time it wouldn't have crossed my mind. the following day i drove my car and this physical reaction happened again. i then realized that it was something in my car that was causing this. i took my car to a ford dealer and they found that i had carbon monoxide leaking into the cabin. i believe that there should be mandatory recalls for these cars, not customer satisfaction programs. their letters state that 'these vehicles are safe', and clearly that is misleading and untrue.
I am requesting that the dot nhtsa look into the possibility of a tire defect that can affect the safe operation of vehicles with cooper discoverer srx tires. i purchased a set of 4 cooper discoverer srx tires and had them professionally installed on my 2013 ford explorer. the size is 255/50r20. during the winter of 2018-19 they began to leak air excessively when it was cold. the loss would grow to a point the low air light came on every week. it was various tires causing the issue. this continued throughout the winter and into the spring of 2019. the leaks are more severe when driving than when the vehicle is stationary. i believe the tires may have been compromised to the point that they are continuing to leak when it is warm outside now. over the past 3 months i have had them in 2 separate times and have been told the tires do not have a hole in them nor leak at the bead but are leaking due to weather or other. i have made multiple attempts with cooper tires to handle the safety issue and they not handled their warranty matter. i have been to two separate dealers who sent me back to the original installer and they have had them off two times to verify the issue. before this safety issue becomes a serious incident i would like to see the tires investigated or possibly recalled. i am concerned about the safety of these tires and believe the model may reduce safety as they age. mine are 2 years old almost. thank you, *tr
Corrosion of the ac lines running under the vehicle and of the rear ac condenser housing, which is exposed to the environment, caused a complete failure of the ac system and allowed all of the refrigerant to leak into the environment.
The horn from the steering pad isn't working. it has been brought to ford dealership service center on 3 occasions & they have stated the horn is operable and they don't see anything wrong with it. however, the horn stops working within 24 hours. the alarm horn does operate which leads me to believe there's some wiring/mechanical problem with contact when pressing the steering wheel horn pad. a case was filed w/ ford customer care who referred me back to the dealer and they 'found' the horn to be operable & stopped working on a saturday morning. on 4/29/19 i contacted ford again and the representative pretty much said the vehicle is out of warranty & there are no extended warranties on the car so i was out of luck. i explained to him that it appears it may be some sort of manufacturing defect posing a hazard/liability to my family which he showed no interest of caring. the horn at this time is not working.
While driving down the highway my passenger windshield mold flew off the car almost causing an accident.
I have a 2013 ford explorer and just today found out about the carbon monoxide problem. bought it certified/used from a ford dealer in tn in 2016. about that time, i started having headaches and dizzy spells, and weakness in my arms and legs. the same symptoms i just learned today other people have experienced in a ford explorer. in dec 2017 i moved to fl and the first few months i was here i had my car to the ford dealer numerous times for a different problem (the sync issue). never was i told anything about a carbon monoxide problem. when i get off work today i am going to buy a cm detector to check this. i am very suspicious that this is what has caused all the medical problems i suddenly began experiencing about 3 yrs. ago. i'm also contacting an attorney.
I purchased my car brand new in 2012. i have a 2013 ford explorer. there was a recall #14s06 in 2014 that did not include my car, which was manufactured in the same year. the cars steering issue is a mechanical manufacturing defect. i am told that "because my car was not listed within the dates listed within the year 2012 that the recall was issued". despite notices, there is still a manufacturer's defect that i was told that ford would not resolve. this defect is through no fault of my own. the car has less than 100k on it. i almost had an accident because it just suddenly locked up and wouldn't even turn and became inoperable. i would just like ford to provide reimbursement or replacement parts for the repairs. i am not trying to get them to buy me a new car. the dealer is charging $2500+ to repair it. i believe that ford knew or should have known that the problem would not only be limited to cars that were within a certain time frame, rather, they knew or should have known that the issue could extend to other vehicles of the same type that were manufactured within the same year.
My vehicle was in a stationary position when the 'shift to park light illuminated'. this is a real accident waiting to happen since the vehicle could role.
The vehicle will not stay engaged in park. this is the third time this has been repaired. however, this time it rolled backwards into someone else's vehicle. our vehicle was in park at the top of the driveway for nearly 2 hours before the person parked behind or vehicle. they where at our house for about an hour, when they where leaving we noticed that our vehicle had disengaged from park and rolled 15' down the driveway into their vehicle. thankfully, there were only a few scratches on either vehicle. our driveway is fairly flat, it has a 1-3 degree slope to it. leading to the conclusion, that there is not a large incline that the vehicle was not forced out of park. there has to be something wrong with the way the transmission is engaged into park or there is yet another problem with the shift linkage. the shift linkage was adjusted the first time this happened. the second time the shift linkage was replaced. we are taking it back to the dealer today to see what they feel needs replaced this time.
Exhaust smell inside the car. started when parked with engine turned on, continued while driving on the street and highway. at the beginning was not sure if it is from my car, opened windows, then closed them again couple times and the smell continued. had to drive with open windows to get home. my daughter, me ,dog and car seats and blankets smelled very bad, had to wash everything. plus started to have light headache while driving.
Rain water leaking into the vehicles back hatch and coming through the seat belts, causing wet seat belts, seats, spare tire equipment, and personal and items in cargo area.
I get sick; headache, nausea, feeling really tired and blurry vision after trips more than 2 jours
Brought my vehicle in to ford dealership for ford carbon monoxide customer service program #17n03. was called by the dealership to tell me that the transfer case is leaking and needs to be replaced along with the sway bars and links. i see that many other complaints have been lodged regarding this type of repair. for the age of the vehicle and how little it is driven these seem like pricey repairs. i drive a 2013 ford explorer with 74,000 miles on it. please advise.
I brought this vehicle 3 years ago from liberty ford. my truck has been serviced with their company since i brought the car. now today i was told by my mechanic that i have to replace my transfer case. i was unable to drive the truck was stalling, i couldn't drive or give it gas in the motion when i was driving and needed to be towed to my mechanic shop. it sounded like my truck was dragging. the cost of a transfer case is over 1,000 not including labor and i think this should be investigated and with a truck almost 6 years old. i think it's a defect and also my check engine light is on for no reason at all. please investigate this claim and other vehicle as mine. i think this should be a recall against ford.
Exhaust manifolds have deteriorated, allowing exhaust gases into the cabin when vehicle is moving. problem confirmed by repair shop, which estimates $2,000 to replace the exhaust manifolds and the attached catalytic converters. this appears to be a problem that is known to ford, based on news articles.
The cabin smells of exhaust while driving. it smells this way on city street or highway. the smell gets worse the longer the car is running. we had the workaround that ford suggested done and it has not helped the issue.
Smell of exhaust within cab of the vehicle while in motion and stationary. smell can be overpowering and the effects can make the occupants feel nauseous. ford had been notified several times of this matter and was not able to find or duplicate the problem.
About a year ago i went through the process to get my explorer 'fixed' with the exhaust smell issue. and i though all was well. then this year once i started using the heater in my vehicle it became much worse than it was last year. my toddler complains of head aches after car rides and i get light headed and very nauseous. if the car is left running for even 30 seconds with 50 feet of clearance behind it the cabin is filled with an unbearable amount of exhaust smell. i'm scared for the lives of my children driving this vehicle now that it's winter and i need to be able to run the heater. it is fine as long as i have the climate control turned completely off. but that's unreasonable when it's 19 degrees outside and i have young children. i bought a car with a heater i should be able to use it. like i said it is much worse when the car is just sitting parked and running but the smell is present at all times while the heater is in use.
The roof operating panel module is bad. my moon/sunroof is stuck in the open position. we stopped at three different dealerships to see if they could shut it so we didn't have to drive in the rain with it open they were able to put plastic on top of it but now it's just sitting in my garage until we can come up with money to fix it
Driving on a highway at 70 mph, the windshield drivers side molding became detached, started shredding (causing a dent in the door) and before i could pull over, flew off the explorer. part of the molding is still attached (about 1/4 piece). very glad it did not hurt anyone, but what if a motorcycle was behind me? this does not have a recall through ford. when i ordered my part, estimated at #450.00, 3 other people had the same problem the same day, according to the parts counter person.
Goodyear fortera hl tires showed cracking after only 19,540 miles on 2013 ford explorer purchased new in january 2013. after this discovery, i need to replace all 4 tires.tire numbers are dot 4b8t manufactured in canada on 3/2012.
When it rains, water pours in from driver side 3rd row seat belt. apparently this is a common problem on ford explorers due to poor welding issues, yet nothing has been done about it. i am concerned about future mold and mildew issues in the car. i drive around 3 young children and do not want any health issues because of this flaw. ford needs to step up and issue a recall so it can be fixed. i do not have thousands of dollars to fix their welding mistakes.
Exhaust smell in the cab
Noticed leak into spare tire well years ago and jones ford in n. charleston could not find a leak. 8/13/2018 took our vehicle in for the same exact problem and found the water pours down the third row seatbelts anytime it rains. there is now mold in the carpeted area below the 3rd row seats. the leak happens while the car is stationary, driving, anytime it is raining.
10-15 minutes after commuting on the sun coast parkway in florida, i experienced double vision, became unable to think clearly or make decisions (ie: to pull over and call for help), and hit numerous upright, rubber barriers which separate the express lane from the other lanes of traffic, as well as either a temporary concrete divider or metal rail. much of the following 24 hours after my accident are foggy or i do not remember at all. after 2 full neurological work-ups, i still have no definitive diagnosis. recently, i received the recall notice for possible exhaust issues in ford explorers. my suv sustained significant damage and has since been repaired.
The vehicle is rolling away while in "park". it is the exact problem described for other ford vehicles but the explorer is not on the recall list. we have experienced this occurrence twice now. the first time it occurred, the vehicle rolled out of our garage and into fence and tree. the second time, it rolled out of a parked spot while my wife was in the driver seat and clearly observing the transmission was in "park".
We have a 2013 ford explorer that we have taken in late last year and had the carbon monxiode problem addressed and we are still having issues after the recall. we still smell it when we accerlate the gas. i try not to drive my vehicle because of it. now when i run the ac and step on the gas the compressor for the ac drops down. if i run the ac on 5 and i accerlate on the gas it sounds like i just turned it on and running it on low and then it finally kicks back up to 5. if i can get rid of this vehicle i will not get another ford and will tell everyone i know that ford doesn't care about safety just the money. this vehicle is not safe to drive because of this issue. its the same as having carbon monxiode in your home. it is dangerous. you would not put your family in it , but you say you would to keep from recalling them. all of the explorers need to be taken off the road that has this issue. ford and there ceos are putting everyones lives in danger but ford is all about the money/greed. what will it take take to put the safety of peoples lives first. people getting killed due to this issue. something needs to be done!!
Takata recall: when driving 75mph try to pass another car, the motor and ac cut off at 79 mph, no power. this is on the highway
Monoxide carbon odors from the exhaust pipe are entered into the vehicle, and when i drive for long periods of time i feel nauseous and disoriented and i have to lower the windows every 20 minutes
On a 2013 ford explorer, the shift lock release keeps getting stuck and car is unable to shift into gear with out manually moving the release pump. this is after car is in park.
Noticed water leak coming out of seat belt harness area in third row. water leak is causing entire area to become wet in third row. mildew smell is now present. afraid there may be mold growth causing health issues. i put towels around the seatbelt to catch water and they are soaked when i change them out. rain water comes leaked on when the car is parked or while in motion. i am not aware of where the leak is starting or how to fix.
Continue to smell a bad odor from vents. contacted ford, went to dealer today, did free fiix, but problem not still exists. it does this occassionally and last few minutes.
Continue to smell a bad odor from vents. contacted ford and wanted to bring it in but will cost money to have it checked out. it does this occassionally and lasts a few minutes. previously have smelled a strong gas odor which made me have a severe headache for hours. thought there going to be a recall. have 2013 base model.
My ford explorer 2013 back tailgate window shattered. it was cold out about 30 degrees but my rear defrost was not on at all that day. i drove my car to work which is about a 15 minute drive. i got in the left hand turn lane to make a left turn into my work and it shattered. no car behind me. i was going about 5 miles per hour. i then turned into the parking lot of my work.
Carbine monoxide detector going off when driving.
My carbon monoxide tester is going off.
