Problems with 2013 Ford Escape ENGINE

On average, the 2013 Ford Escape starts to “feel” problems with the ENGINE and its various aspects after 62 432 miles.

Recently reported ENGINE problems on 2013 Ford Escape

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. while driving various speeds, the engine stalled without warning. the contact stated that the vehicle failed to accelerate when the accelerator pedal was depressed. the vehicle restarted after numerous attempts. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v495000 (electrical system). the approximate failure mileage was 54,000.

The vehicle had been turned in to brown daub ford in nazareth, pa where it was reported to have died twice on the road. they then reported it died on them twice also. they replaced the engine fuel pump as this is the ecoboost there are two pumps (one at fueltank one at engine) and returned the car. it drove for 30 minutes and died again in an intersection where it almost caused a serious accident. the dealership wrote up the complaint as car wants to stall which is not what was said. they were told it died and was dangerous, they returned it with the same mileage as they took it in so it was not test driven. this is a very dangerous problem and will cause a death. the none turbo engine has a recall for wireharness splices not done properly and that is what this sounds like. please look into this. *tr

While slowing down for a stop light on a busy state highway, and without warning vehicle stalled. loss of electric temporarily. no collision bc vehicle behind me was able to swerve. *tr

Engine was making odd noise, red light appeared on instrument panel. driver pulled to side of road. car began smoking. driver exited vehicle. driver called 911 and waved for help. vehicle burst into flames approximately 30 second after driver exited vehicle. car completely burned. *tr

10/29/14: while in the buffalo, ny area, i turned on the car and noticed the engine fault service now' notice came on. after i clicked ok to make the message go away i put the car in drive and tried to accelerate but noticed the engine was very sluggish. the car had no pickup even with the little pressure i applied to the gas pedal. the tachometer was acting sporadic and the engine felt as though it was close to cutting out. i decided to err on the side of caution and since we were in a big open parking lot i decided to park the car and call for a tow truck to take us to the nearest ford dealership. the dealer (basil ford, cheektowaga, ny) kept the car overnight and replaced a sensor. 11/9/14: at local shopping center, i started the car the 'engine fault service now' notice came on again and when i put the car in gear and applied pressure to the gas pedal i could feel the engine was sluggish. but this time i parked the car and turned the engine off and waited for a minute and turned the engine back on. when i turned car back on the engine fault notice did not come on and the engine seemed fine. apparently the sensor fix did not fix the problem concerned for safety now based on other reports by drivers. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. the contact stated while driving approximately 35 mph, the vehicle went into power saving mode. the vehicle's speed reduced and the check engine warning light illuminated. the engine was shut off then restarted, and the vehicle resumed normal operation. the failure recurred multiple times intermittently. the vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing. the mat sensor was replaced, but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 25,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. the contact stated that the transmission was shifting abnormally in and out of gears and there was a sudden increase in engine rpms. the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. during a second appointment, the technician determined that the computer needed to be reset. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer who repaired the throttle body, the motor, the assembly control, the assembly transmission, and the gasket. the remedy failed to repair the failure. in addition, while traveling 45 mph downhill, the vehicle stalled and caused another vehicle to crash into the contact's vehicle. the contact sustained minor injuries and did not seek medical attention. a police report was filed. the contact received a recall notice for nhtsa campaign number: 14v495000 (engine). the vehicle was towed to the dealer for diagnostic testing. the manufacturer was notified. the approximate failure mileage was 25,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. the contact stated that the engine hesitated and the front passenger air bag warning light illuminated intermittently. the contact received a notification for nhtsa campaign number: 14v495000 (engine) and stated that the recall exceeded a reasonable time for repair. the dealer advised that the part was not available. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 31,410.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. while driving approximately 35 mph, the vehicle stalled and the service engine and engine malfunction warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 30,000.

While traveling down a highway at approximately 50 mph, our vehicle suddenly lost power, red lights came on the dashboard, vehicle continued running but gas pedal did not respond. coasted to a stop along shoulder, turned vehicle off, waited a couple of minutes, restarted without incident. 12 volt plugs remained off. called ford dealership today. they say this issue will be covered in another recall from ford, has to do with the electrical wiring harness which shorts out, however replacement part not available at this time. had we been on the freeway in seattle as we were earlier in the day, this would have caused a rear end accident for sure. we feel ford has left us with an undependable vehicle, several recalls already and now this very serious safety issue. we no longer feel we can travel safely in this vehicle even after this next recall is repaired. quality control is definitely absent, who knows what else will be recalled at this rate. *tr

Tl- the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. the contact stated that the cruise control failed to engage and disengage intermittently. the contact experienced an electrical short with the radio shorting out as well. the vehicle stalled multiple times and the contact had to make several attempts to restart the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who replaced the wiring harness and the failure recurred. the contact noticed that the vehicle was idling rough, the cruise control was engaged and was stuck multiple times causing the vehicle to accelerate while attempting to disengage the cruise control feature. the vehicle also stalled more than five times and the contact was able to restart the vehicle. the vehicle was not safe to drive and was parked at the contacts residence. the vehicle was towed by the dealer to the authorized dealer for further inspection, diagnosis and repair. the contact was waiting for a response from the authorized dealer who was checking for approval from the manufacturer to repair the vehicle. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure several times. the approximate failure mileage was 35,000. dyd

In august 2014, january 2015, february 2015, and march 2015 my vehicle went into "failsafe" mode due to an overheating engine, among other problems. the vehicle was towed each time to the ford dealer's service center where the lease originated. failsafe mode cuts power to the brain of the vehicle which shuts down the engine to "safely" stop the vehicle so the car doesn't light itself on fire. the car literally goes from 60 to 0 in a matter of minutes. any time the vehicle has gone into failsafe mode i have been terrified of causing an accident or getting rearended. the car has been in and out of the ford service center and pep boys for repetitive engine issues, coolant system issues, transmission issues, computer system issues, etc. there are 9 recalls on the car thus far, 8 of them have been fixed - the airbag recall does not apply to my vehicle because the airbag light is not on. my car has spent a total of 28 days in the shop since it was leased in 2013 for repeat repairs. i tried several times to have ford buy back the remainder of the lease but was denied because the issues did not take place within the first 18,000 miles of the lease. i also filed for new york state lemon law and was denied for the same reason. i was forced to roll the remaining 9 payments ($4,044) into a new lease for a 2015 ford escape on 3/9/15 because the 2013 escape was unpredictable and problematic - it was not safe to be on the road. the engine overheated approximately every 6 days for two months and it was deemed "unrepairable" by the mechanic but corporate still refused to buy back the lease. speaking of corporate - i was treated terribly by the regional customer service manager. she screened her phone calls and refused to call me back unless i asked for a supervisor. she spoke to me like she was punishing her 5 year old child and her favorite word was "no." *tr

While driving vehicle turns off/engine dies at any speed without warning. it has happen 6 times. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. the contact stated that while driving at 25 mph and attempting to make a turn, the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle was able to restart. the failure occurred on three occasions. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 6,000.

Back in aug. 2014 i got a recall - 14s17 oct. 2014 got a recall - 14s21 i have been calling our ford dealer each month and they still don't have the parts. so i continue to get a card from ford reminding me of the recall and to contact the ford dealer today. well then, why don't the ford dealers have the parts. *js

The engine had been idleing a little rough and stalled at a stop light. it restarted and then it would idle rough and like it was going to stall again. it has stalled a total of 3 times in the last 3 days and is idleing rough. ford dealer service dept. not open to get looked at. this is out of the blue and when i ran an engine diagnostic it came back normal. i dont trust this car now and am in the process of trying to trade it for a new toyota, but i am not sure i will be able to get rid of this vehicle. i see ford has had several issues with this and so far they cant find anything wrong. *tr

On 7/30/214 the vehicle hesitated and the engine stalled at a stop sign. i was on a trip to pennsylvania on 8/19/2014 taken to mullinax ford, 2317 s.r. 44, new smyrna beach, fl 32168 (866) 511-8666. no codes and they could not duplicate malfunction. after a few days car was returned to me. on 9/7/2014 the vehicle hesitated and the engine stalled at a stop sign. engine restarted no check engine light(mil). on 9/15/2014 the vehicle hesitated and the engine stalled at a stop sign. engine restarted no check engine light(mil). on 9/16/2014, today, taken to mullinax ford, 2317 s.r. 44, new smyrna beach, fl 32168 (866) 511-8666. currently in shop. contacted ford motor company 9/16/2014, today, they created a case number [xxx]. stated that ford recall 14s17 was not applicable since my vin indicates 4/19/2013 build date. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

While driving the engine fault light came on. the car began to lurch when changing gears almost causing an accident. once car turned off and turned back on the fault cleared and the engine ran smooth. took the car to the ford store san leandro (ca). like the similar complaints on this website they could not find record on the car's computer and could not replicate the problem. therefore i go away very concerned about my safety and future occurrences of the same event. from this website i see lots of complaints. when will ford do something to rectify. how many people are going to have to be injured or die to get them working on resolving this issue? *tr

In order to park in the single bay of our three car side entry attached garage, you have to pull up to the post between the double and single bays, back up and pull forward. after pulling to about one foot from the garage support post and bringing the vehicle to a complete stop, i attempted to shift from drive to reverse. the escape suddenly accelerated into the post and our expedition parked in the right hand side of the double bay. it felt like i had been slammed into from behind. with the engine racing i was able to use the start/stop button to stop the engine. the post was driven over three feet into the garage and the expedition was hit with so much force that it jumped about an inch onto the cement curb in front of the garage. hitting the expedition prevented the garage post (wood and brick) from totally collapsing. the escape has the 1.6l eco-boost engine and was purchased in oct. 2012. it has been driven only 5,904 miles. at 5,672 miles the dealership had the vehicle for three days for three recalls 13s12, 14s04 and 14s03. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. the contact stated that the vehicle overheated and stalled. the contact mentioned that when the vehicle was turned off, there was an abnormal noise coming from the rear end of the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the popped off coolant hose needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure and current mileage was 31,000.

In 2 weeks my 2013 ford escape has stopped running. the first time i was at a complete stop. the second time i was slowing down for a stop sign and the engine cut off again. both time the car restarted. it was taken to the dealer both times and they can fine nothing wrong. i am very concerned that it will happen when i am driving and someone will run into me. *js

I am filing a complaint that after my recall service for the risk of localized overheating of the engine cylinder head that may lead to oil leak fires my 2013 ford escape started overheating. the engine heat went from regular heat to maxed out heat in the red in a matter of seconds with no warning or time to pull over safely!!!!! i purchased my ford escape 2013 sel in april of 2013 and use my car often for work so have put on 23,000 miles so far. i got a letter of a recall and called to schedule my recall asap only able to get an appointment 2 months out. i got my 3 recalls of only one i was notified of performed june 16th 2014 and picked up my car june 20th from san leandro ford thinking and hoping i would now be driving a safe vehicle. shortly thereafter i realized my right head-light wasn't working so took it back to find out the technician forgot to plug my headlight in. two weeks later i took a trip over 300 miles away and had no troubles after multiple mtn passes until our final climb when my 2013 escape jumped from regular engine heat to overheating and maxed out in the red in a matter of seconds. we pulled over let it cool and tried again, overheated again and had an oil burning smell with fear of engine catching fire!! immediately made an appointment at bishop ford. car is currently at ford dealership 6 hours from my home with no reason as to why it is still overheating! ford tech (corporate location) was non-responsive to local tech and car is unsafe to drive! warning recall does not work! *js

Vehicle towed to ford on 7/3/14 for fuel leak. also told ford that fuel range consumption gauge was not working right. ford was unable to verify fuel leak concern but did the 13s12 overheating and 14s03 handle recalls. on 7/19/14 low coolant light came on. called ford and they said that it was an air pocket in the coolant system and to add distilled water and drive it to ford. the dealership drained the coolant, added coolant and pressurized to check the system. explained to ford that our daughter was taking the car on a 500 mile road trip that afternoon. they reassured us it was fixed and that she would not have an issue, but if she did, simply add distilled water again to resolve. later on 7/19/14, after driving 150 miles of the trip, the temperature gauge rapidly jumped from normal to hot and the engine overheated. roadside assist. towed to the closest ford dealership. this new dealership said the vehicle had so many problems that they were going to have someone from ford to come look at it. the new dealership faxed us the list of what was wrong with our vehicle: leaking water pump, leaking turbo coolant tube, turbo coolant banjo bolt loose, hose clamp on turbo coolant tube not released, coolant stand pipe not bolted, engine harness taped but not secured to engine cover, coolant stand pipe harness not properly secured, battery cable rerouting not performed, foam protection not applied to coolant level module, active grill shutters not removed at all, thermostat housing bolts loose, cv boot ripped, bolts on oil deflector not tight to specs. ford says they repaired the vehicle but we told them we could not risk our lives any more with this defective vehicle. on 7/29/14 we explained everything to ford, sent them the list, got a case number and requested that ford buy back the vehicle. on 8/8/14 ford denied our request. we are too scared to pick up the vehicle. *tr

I have the 2013 ford escape 2.0 with eco-boost. suddenly it began stalling when i was in park, it has gradually began stalling when i am in drive but at a stop. luckily it has not happened while i was in motion. the engine light comes on along with service now indicator and other dash icons. i put the vehicle in park and restart with no problem. all icon's disappear and the vehicle goes back to running normal. i have noticed it is idling roughly and a bit higher than normal about 900 rpm. it constantly idles as if it is going to stall although stalling does not always occur. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. the contact stated that while driving approximately 25 mph and making a right turn, the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where the failure was unable to be diagnosed. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the approximate mileage was 9,300. updated 9/18/14*cn updated 2/11/2015*js

Since our 2013 ford escape had the ford recall 13s12c and 13s12d completed in early april, the vehicle fuel mileage has dropped by an average of 2 mpg. some aerodynamic features of the vehicle were compromised under the recall to help keep the engine from over heating and starting a fire. its a good thing we leased this vehicle because we will be returning it to the dealer when the lease is up and most likely will not purchase a ford vehicle to replace it. buyer beware of 2013 ford escapes built in late 2012 and early 2013 with the 1.6 liter ecoboost engine. *tr

On the first incident i was slowing down to make a left turn in a busy intersection. the service engine now default light came on and the car stalled. i was nearly killed as cars had to swerve to go around me. the second and third incidents happened as i slowed down to make a right hand turn. the car has also stalled at stop signs. *tr

Following service performed for recalls for possible coolant leak / engine fire, engine fault codes for low coolant began to display. visual confirmation of low coolant in reservoir. added coolant to proper level several times at weekly intervals while driving approx. 200 miles per week. loss of coolant was not an issue until the recall servicing was done. three or four service visit attempts to fully diagnose and resolve have resulted a replaced water pump (that leaked during pressure test). this most recent low coolant engine fault message occurred after four weeks post-new water pump. i am returning for another service visit in an attempt to fully and finally resolve the issue. *tr

The car stalls at low speeds, after braking and then trying to accelerate. it's happened at least 8 times, and it's been to the ford dealer (veterans ford in tampa) at least 4 times to check it out, but the service dept cannot duplicate the problem. they have run tests, and checked for 'codes' in the engine, but no codes appeared, although the last time, i drove it directly to the dealer after it stalled. it always restarts, but i'm often in traffic and dangerous situations. it's very sporadic, and there is no warning before it stalls. *tr

My 2013 ford escape started with a jolting, rocking and rough ride. the engine fault service now light came on. if you turned it off and restarted it, would be ok and light would not come back on. this started around 28,000 miles. i took to ford dealer and they kept for a day, hooked to computer and told me nothing was coming up as wrong. they took it out on the road and could not replicate it. but they did fix 5 recalls on it! 4 days later with the air conditioner on while making a left turn on a busy road, the engine went completely dead. i nearly missed having a car hit me broadside. then 5 days later as i was making a right hand turn, the engine once again completely died. by some very good luck the car behind me was able to go around me. i had my small grandson and granddaughter in the back seat. they could have been seriously injured had i been rear ended. i called the ford dealer and was told my the service manager what did i expect them to do since it keeps telling them nothing is wrong when hooked to the computer ( in a very sarcastic tone). then again today, the engine went completely dead coming out of my granddaughter school in front of a school bus!! i think ford is going to wait until people actually die in a an accident before even attempting to try to correct this problem. i am so distraught that i don't know what to do. gm waited to long and look what happened to them! *tr

On 5/31/14, upon starting vehicle (2.0 l, sel), vehicle running rough, sputtering, lurching when accelerator was depressed, etc. message on dash screen stated "engine fault - service now". drove car approximately 8 miles to a ford dealer i was not familiar with. turned car off but then decided to move car. started car, all issues disappeared, so i left and drove car 35 miles to my home with no issues. drove car until 6/20/14 when exact symptoms happened again. drove car with symptoms occurring to local ford dealer. mechanic suspected cooing system problem, turned off engine without hooking up to computer for diagnosis. minutes later, mechanic decided problem was not cooling system related since escape was a 2.0 l (cooling system problems apparently occur with 1.6 l models), but was instead the map sensor which was replaced on 6/26/14. next day (6/27/14) after map sensor replacement, same exact issues. no time to take to a dealer, so i shut it off and restarted it and all symptoms disappeared. drove regularly until 7/16/14, when exact symptoms occurred again. drove directly to local ford dealer, left it running. they hooked up the diagnostic computer while running which showed error code related to map sensor again. explained to mechanic that my research has indicated that tsb 13-12-12 might address the problem which is related to wiring in the "signal return splices." he agreed. made appointment for next day, 7/17/14. upon starting on 7/17/14, same symptoms. turned off, restarted, symptoms cleared and i drove it with no issues to my local ford dealer. local dealer called and said they looked at the wire splices, made some "adjustments" (no new parts) and that vehicle is ready for pick up. if this occurs again, which i believe it will, i will ask for wire harness replacement to the signal return(s). dangerous, well-documented problem. *tr

Car stalled while driving at 35 mph with no warning, nearly causing an accident. *tr

As i was slowing to turn left the car stalled in the middle of the intersection. and again, as i stopped at the stop sign, it stalled again. i took this car into the dealer ( third time) because of the stalling issue and i had just picked it up from the dealer service department, (who said they could not find anything) when the car stalled a mile away from the shop. it was closing time on a holiday weekend, when i picked it up, so they were closed by the time i turned around. *tr

1.6l ecoboost: service engine indicator comes on. dealer has determined several instances of engine misfire. initially too, a more urgent indicator light came on (amber) indicating that the coolant level is low. a yet more urgent indicator light comes on (red) indicating the engine is overheating and the engine is reduced to running on two cylinders. however, this indication appeared only shortly after the engine was started, and surely at that point, the engine was far from overheating. on other and subsequent incidences, engine misfires during the first seconds following start-up. after 3 to 5 seconds, engine usually stops misfiring. on a couple of occasions, this misfire-at-start-up event has been accompanied by a faint odor of antifreeze. the most recent misfire-at-start-up event included a faint smell of something/not fuel or oil, and gray smoke from the exhaust. because dealer has tested the cooling system (okay) and no hint of coolant has been found on the ground or engine compartment, i'm now assuming that coolant is getting into one or more of cylinders, either from the engine head or from the turbo charger (it is water-cooled, i'm told) and is then coming out of the exhaust. both tail pipes are carboned up. mention of is made on several web posts and is apparently a common occurrence with ecoboost engines?? based on my vast (high school) knowledge of chemistry and the oxidation process, that just ain't right. i have asked fmc to replace the vehicle. they have thus far declined to do so. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. the contact stated that the check engine and coolant indicators illuminated and there was a drastic reduction in speed. the contact was able to pull the vehicle over as it stalled. after waiting a brief moment, the vehicle was restarted, but was not able to be safely driven. bob bell ford (7125 ritchie hwy, glen burnie, md 21061, (410) 766-3600) was notified of the failure and indicated that manufacturer recall number: 12s39 and nhtsa campaign number: 12v431000 (engine and engine cooling) were issued in mid 2014. when the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, it was determined that the kit required to service the recall campaign had not been administered. the vehicle was not repaired. the independent mechanic provided technical diagnostic information pertaining to what was inspected. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and was informed that the independent mechanic did not believe the remedy was provided. the contact was waiting on a response from the manufacturer to determine the guidelines to repair the vehicle. the approximate failure mileage was 50,000.

2013 ford escape as i back out of parking lot, car dies, engine light comes on and oil light appears also. car also shut down at busy intersection. took car into dealership next morning, started car up and it died, did this 3 times and the ford service man witnessed this. they have had car 4 days in the shop. shop foreman has driven car home to see if it can be duplicated and can not. they say when they hook up to computer no problems register. they just called and said i have to pick up the car today, they can't keep it any longer. if it happens again, to bring it in. very frustrated. hope i don't get hit and injured!! *tr

The "engine fault, service now" light came on and the car would not accelerate. i had to pull over and hit ok in order to turn off vehicle. when i got out of the car it smelled like burning in the engine. after researching this online it is worrisome that this is not part of a recall yet. it seems there are many of these escapes with the same issue, some catching fire. please advise! *tr

While turning at a speed of approximately 5 mph the car stalled causing the loss of power steering and power brakes. this was the third incident of the car stalling. "williamsburg ford and preowned" serviced the car today and found no fault codes. claim that they can not service the car without ford's authorization via "recall". this vehicle is potentially dangerous once a stall occurs to a driver from side or rear impact. this needs action from the nhtsa and ford. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. the contact stated while driving approximately 40 mph, the contact was advised by another driver that smoke emitted from underneath the vehicle. the vehicle was maneuvered to the side of the road where flames were seen from under the hood. when the contact moved away from the vehicle it exploded. there were no injuries. the fire department extinguished the fire. a police report was filed. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic. the manufacturer was notified of the defect. the approximate failure mileage was 27,000. rk

I have 2013 ford escape titanium.i have to have the car towed into coughlin ford, johnstown, oh twice. this is what the car was doing. vehicle bucked and lurched and went into limp mode. the car quit and would not restart. i called ford roadside assistance and had it towed to coughlin ford, johnstown, oh. coughlin called and said that they could not find anything wrong with the car. on the second occasion the car ran very rough, the engine fault light came on. again it did the same problem. could barely get it home. i was on a busy highway nearly being hit both times. again the car was towed to coughlin ford. later was called saying they could not duplicate the problem. we are senior citizens and very afraid to take the car anywhere. twice we have had to rent a car. *js

First occurrence was nearly three months ago. 2013 ford escape as repeatedly, with increasing frequency but randomly lost power and with the engine shutting off. car has lost engine power and with no ability to accelerate while driving speeds up to 40 mph. it has occurred while approaching a stop, sitting at a stop sign, accelerating post stop, turning left, turning right and while navigating around-about and crossing a railroad track. car will restart once i place it in park. this is an extreme safety concern. i have had several near misses and only because i have learned to respond quickly with my hazard lights. i called don hinds ford in fishers, in at the second occurrence and they failed to express the same level of concern telling me i would have to wait 4-5 days for an appointment. the frequency has increased, albeit still random and not daily it does occur multiple times a week. i made a service appointment with don hinds waiting again 4 business days on 7-8-2014. i was extremely disappointed as their report was based on their inability to not replicate the problem. the likelihood to replicate a random occurrence in a short test drive was not expected by me and i am disappointed they were foolish to think it would. the history of the last 10 starts and stops on the car's computer didn't report any error code. don hind's states that ford has no reports of any incidents and their technical support had no recommendations for the mechanic. the advice of the mechanic was to wait until it was more frequent in occurrence and able to be replicated and then bring it back. i am afraid to drive my car and to transport my children. this needs urgent attention. this poses a high risk of injury. *js

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. the contact stated that while driving approximately 45 mph, the vehicle independently decelerated. in addition, the contact stated that the service immediately warning light illuminated and the rpms would increase and decrease. the failure occurred on multiple occasions. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the contact stated that the vehicle was serviced under nhtsa campaign number: 14v495000 (engine) and experienced failures after the repair. the specifics on the failures after the recall was performed were not available. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 11,000.

Vehicle sputtered and shut off while in traffic at approx. 35 mph. this has happened 3 more times, it is now at the dealer for the 4th time in attempt to repair. ford has so far been unable to provide the dealer with an adequate explanation or fix. the dealer has been more than cooperative but is at the mercy of ford. a vehicle shutting off for no apparent reason and without warning could lead to serious injuries. *tr

It started as a recall. there was danger of fire in the motor. took in on april 21, 2014 and told it would be back in 2 days. down hill from there. bad water pump. waiting for parts. the motor has been taken apart and put back. dealer test drove and "check engine light" came on. this has happened twice. ford has said they would send a "new" motor. this is july 7th and i still don't have my car back. dealer said they don't know when i would get it. also -- the escape has a steering problem. it hangs when you are turning or changing lanes driving 70 mph and they can't identify the problem. they say that ford hasn't had any complaints. updated 02/05/2015 *js

When i brake to slow down the car for a red-light stop the engine shut down before the car was completely stopped. this happened 3 times in the 4/20 week. ford service couldn't find what's wrong because they couldn't "reproduce" the problem. another safety issue is the passenger airbag. the airbag-off warning sign always lit up randomly when my son sits in that seat. my son is slightly over 100 lbs. ford people said he has to sit straight up, which i think is ridiculous and outrageous. *tr

On april 18,2014 car was in a ford dealership because i heard a rattle coming from underneath the car a day or two before. i noticed the heat shield was falling off and tearing away from a bolt. the dealership at that time stated i must have driven over something to cause it to come off. they charged me for the repair. now it is april 14,2015 and the same problem is happening all over again. same noise and tearing away from bolt again.. i have contacted ford customer service again to open another case about this same issue. *tr
