Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. while driving 60 mph, smoke appeared under the hood of the vehicle. the contact stopped the vehicle and placed oil into the engine, which caused the failure to subside. it was diagnosed that oil leaked into the engine of the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to a dealer to be repaired, but the issue recurred. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue. the failure mileage was 90,599.
This engine has been stalling. it seems to stall when slowing for a turn or an intersection. i seen there was a recall issued for some escapes with the same year as mine. why were not all escapes recalled for this condition?
Purchased used 2013 ford escape vehicle with approximately 33k miles in october of 2014. purchased extended warranty as warranty was due to expire at 36k miles. a week or two after purchase, car stalled. in the shop it went. several months later check engine light came on. in the shop it went again. multiple times later car has been in the shop again for same "check engine light" for 2-3 weeks at a time; transmission replaced twice. the car was back in shop again last week for same issue check engine light this time dealer claims purge valve issue.
Tl* takata recall. the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. while driving approximately 70 mph, the vehicle stalled and shut off without warning. the contact coasted the vehicle to the side of the road and restarted it, but the failure recurred several times. the vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was diagnosed that the electronic throttle body needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the vehicle was not included in a recall; however, the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 14v597000 (air bags, seat belts). the failure was not remedied. the failure mileage was approximately 55,000. vin tool confirms parts not available.
The car would occasionally loose power. it would stall out soon after starting the car and putting the car in drive. i thought perhaps i was accelerating too soon after starting the car. i would start the car then wait a few seconds. the car still stalled while in motion. several times i had to steer to the side of the road to restart the car. i'm lucky no one was close behind me. the last time it stalled, i was on a busy city street. i had just picked my son up from summer camp. the car stalled as i merged into traffic after leaving the parking lot. the car stopped running with no warning. the engine light came on and stayed on. the dealership says its the scensor that is not covered under warranty. my car has been in the shop for 8 days now and i still don't have it back. it seems like more than just a scensor issue to have it that long. i am in a rental vehicle until repairs are complete. this has been costly even though i was given a discount by the dealership on car rental. i had no choice to rent a car. i was attending a family reunion out of town june 23rd thru june 26th. i couldn't risk driving my car putting my family and myself in danger on the highway..
Car continually stalls. error message says engine fault service now. it can happen coming out of the drive way or driving at 50 miles an hour. dealer says nothing is wrong! this is dangerous! it's been happening for over a year now
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. while driving 60 mph, the vehicle overheated and lost power. the accelerator pedal was depressed, but the vehicle failed to accelerate. the service engine warning light illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the wires in the engine needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the contact was aware of nhtsa campaign numbers: 15v813000 (electrical system) and 14v495000 (electrical system), but the vin was not included. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 78,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. the contact stated that the engine coolant and temperature warning indicators kept intermittently flashing. the contact refilled the coolant fluid and the warning indicators went off. as the failure progressed, the vehicle hesitated, there was a loss of power, an abnormal noise was heard, and the temperature high warning indicator illuminated. the contact made an appointment with maxwell ford (512-916-2661, 5000 s ih 35 frontage rd, austin, tx 78745) on november 19, 2018 to have the vehicle diagnosed. the manufacturer was notified of the failures. the vin was not available. the approximate failure mileage was 56,000. *tt consumer stated there were signs of engine overheating. the engine coolant has been issue since purchasing the vehicle.*jb
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. the contact stated that coolant was leaking from an engine valve. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, but the failure could not be repaired. the contact was informed that only the manufacturer had a special tool to repair the vehicle. ashland ford chrysler (28715 us-2, ashland, wi 54806, (715) 682-8400) and the manufacturer were contacted and stated that there were no recalls on the vehicle. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 45,000.
Takata recall. the computer system has run irregularly since purchase. the vehicle stalls when being driven after the first 10 miles or so on city streets. have to pull to the side of the road, turn key off, restart engine... may require several times before the vehicle can proceed.
A warning indicator will appear on the dash stating "engine malfunction service now". the car shudders, jerks, hesitates and can stall when the throttle is pushed. pulling over, powering the car down, and turning it back on seems to temporarily resolve it. issue may be associated with high temperatures since this was serviced in august of 2016. after 5 trips to the dealer with repairs related to the wiring harness, i was told it was resolved. the problem has recurred starting in june of this year. went to the ford dealer again and they failed to diagnose. drove it to the dealer in failure mode with warning displayed to prove there is an issue. this happens when in motion. i have video of the error display.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. while driving 55 mph, the contact noticed smoke coming from the vehicle and the engine warning light illuminated. the oil light flickered and remained illuminated as well. the vehicle continued to emit smoke fumes from under the hood and the front passenger wheel well. the contact exited the vehicle, lifted the hood, and noticed flames. the fire department extinguished the fire and a fire investigator came to view the scene. neither a police nor a fire report were filed. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic. there were injuries to the contact's right hand, which required medical attention. the manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. the failure mileage was 84,500.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. the contact stated that the vehicle surged while driving and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that incorrect signals were being provided to the pcm due to insufficient compression in the wiring harness spliced into the manifold absolute pressure. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the contact referenced nhtsa campaign number: 15v813000 (electrical system), but the vin was not provided. the failure mileage was 112,000.
Engine fault service now light comes on frequently. dealership replace map sensor. worked for one week. continues to happen which causes car to hesitate and stall. garage says i have to drive it there when message comes on without shutting it off as the code clears upon shut down. impossible to continue to drive a stalling car on the freeway to the garage. now the computer screen above the steeing wheel went out. less than 40,000 miles on the car. fault message occurs when starting the car. continues to happen.
Engine fault service now errors again. occurred within 1/2 block of leaving the driveway, car stumbles and becomes difficult/dangerous to drive. was able to return to the driveway and tried it again several hours later with no error. this same issue occurred in 2013 when we bought the car new, it took several months to identify that some wiring splice/heat shield was failing as no error code was captured. ford eventually issued a recall for that and it has behaved until now. the dealer has advised no error code was captured again this time. they advise all they can do is keep the car and start it several times a day trying to catch it failing in order to capture the code. i cannot believe they've designed a system that cannot capture its own error codes but obviously have here. we learned to take pictures of the screen when it failed and did that again here. there are two ford recalls for what would appear to be the same issue 14s17 and 14s17-s1 where they expanded the recall. it seems clear they need to expand the recall further.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. the contact stated that the vehicle would overheat while driving, causing the vehicle to stall with the engine coolant warning light illuminated. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 12v551000 (engine and engine cooling). the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 58,000.
My engine light came on and my car started to stall and not drive. it started to skip and at as if it was not going to go while driving. when i stopped it started to act as if it was going to cut off in the street. i had to get it towed to a dealership. they said it was my engine wiring system. cost 500 dollars to fix.
Intermittent check engine light (happens when in park or when driving). hooked up to code reader and got p026b7; found online that the the engine coolant bypass valve is defective, but not recalled (tsb 13-02-15). dealer confirms code and that engine coolant bypass valve is defective and should be replaced but referenced tsb 16-0052. despite the part being so defective it has been discontinued, redesigned, and replaced the dealer claims it isn't covered under any form of warranty.
Since august 2015-april 14, 2016 i have taken my vehicle to the ford service department four times due to reduction of engine power/engine overheating warning. my ford was subject to the recall and serviced in aug 2015. in january 2016 and twice in april 2016 i have had the same issue with engine reduction/vehicle heating gauge idle on hot/the vehicle sputters and rides extremely hard until you can come to a complete stop. all incidents have happened while driving in traffic and once on the interstate. when it happened on the interstate i barely made it to the shoulder as i had to try and cross a lane of passing vehicles to do so. i do not feel that ford has adequately found a fix for this huge and dangerous problem and i do not know if a consumer has to be killed first for them to look at it and suggest a fix that is viable to the problem. i am fearful to even drive my ford due to the is problem since it only happens when the vehicle is in motion. i am requesting that you please review this for all of the consumers that ford continues to sell these automobiles too.
First problem april 2016 - engine shaking at 55/60 mph - rear transaxle mount replaced 5/3/16 second problem - car stalling and shaking / but not turning off - towed 5/11/16 - replaced main harness wiring 5/12/16 third problem - car stalled / not starting - towed again 5/12/16 - replaced left ac mount, now to replace right ac mount. still at dealer - 5/31/16
After driving the vehicle for 7 minutes after i started it, the car overheated on the highway. i had to pull over in a parking lot and shut off the car. when i attempted to open the turn on a car after a little while it would not allow me. this same problem had happened exactly on march 16 and the dealership service had replaced the coolant stand pipe standpipe. they said there is no recall associated with vin yet it is the second time this happens.
Recall 14s17 specified that a faulting wiring harness for the map sensor could be repaired by splicing the wiring harness. i had this recall work performed on my vehicle in october 2014, but since then the symptoms which led to the original recall persisted. multiple times, the vehicle has stalled in traffic on a city street, or failed to respond to throttle inputs while merging onto a highway. these are very dangerous situations. since then, ford motor company has issued a service bulletin advising full replacement of the same wiring harness (not just a splice). this is performed at my cost, not fmc's. full replacement should have been the original solution to this recall, and a second recall or revision should be issued to force ford to provide a full solution rather than a half-measure.
While descending a hill, the engine started to rev up to 4000 rpms and back to normal, tachometer was also showing revs, my wife had to hold her foot on the brake during this time. she stopped the car and shifted to neutral and shifted back to drive and car had no further incidents.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. while driving at unknown speeds, the vehicle overheated and shut off. the contact stated that the hazard lights illuminated and flashed, and the engine overheating message displayed. the vehicle was taken to van horn ford (1000 e summit ave, oconomowoc, wi 53066, (262) 567-5574), but they were unable to determine the cause of the failure. the vehicle was towed to griffin ford (1940 e main st, waukesha, wi 53186, (262) 542-5781) where they topped off the fluids, but also could not determine the cause of the failure. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer provided reference number: cas16181232 and referred the contact to nhtsa. the failure mileage was 78,850.
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 ford escape. while accelerating to approximately 5 mph from a stop sign, the vehicle stalled. the "engine fault service now" warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was turned off and restarted. while driving, the engine lost power and the transmission shook severely. the contact stopped again and waited approximately one minute then the vehicle started normally. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, but the failure could not be duplicated. the failure recurred three times in one week. the vehicle was repaired under warranty by the dealer the first time the failure occurred. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 45,121. ...updated 04/19/16 *bf *tr
Wastegate solenoid needs to be replaced but the recall only covers cars manufactured in july 2012 or before. ours was manufactured in february 2013, 7 months later.
Twice now the rpm accelerate up and down without you pressing the gas pedal. service engine like appears. then when stopped at a stop sign it tried accelerating without me pressing the gas pedal. very scary.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. while driving approximately 20 mph, the vehicle failed to accelerate. the message board indicator requested for the vehicle to be stopped. four months prior, the vehicle was repaired for the same failure under a manufacturer recall. the vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that fractures on the cylinder caused antifreeze to leak into the combustion chamber and damage the engine. the engine had to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 109,000.
Purchased vehicle in august of 2014 with 28,000 miles on it. about 2-3 weeks ago the vehicle just stalked, lost all power then died on my wife with my 19 month old baby girl in the car. vehicle starts right back up when this occurs. it happens a couple of times a week and is very dangerous. sometimes it will die when you are trying to accelerate or merge into traffic. took it to the same ford dealer we purchased the vehicle from and they were able to replicate the problem. however, no codes are present in the vehicle even when it happens. the ford service writer and technician said that it was the throttle body. the vehicle has 52,000 miles on it however i was told no warranty or recall covered the replacement of the throttle body. i paid for the throttle body repair. less than 48 hours later the vehicle dies again on my wife while pulling out of our neighborhood. again with my child in the back seat.
My car was effected by recall 13s12. this recall has a number of different issues dealing with engine coolant and cracks in engine cylinders. i took my vehicle in to have the recalls fixed on it. 5 months later, my engine still has the localized overheating, antifreeze leaks and engine cracks. the entire engine is ruined. the dealership sold me a car that was completely unsafe for my children and i. this recall is said to cause engine compartment fires. even after they initially fixed the recalls, the vehicle still will overheat and cause fires! additionally - ruining the vehicle engine. ford will not repair, replace or refund because they said they already closed the recall out - even though the recall was supposed to be fixed.
Ford has issued a safety recall for these types of cars but have not gone far enough. i have taken mine to two auto repair shops for engine coolant leak and both could not find where it leaking yet i have to every month add coolant it has the 1.6 ecoboost engine which is recalled in several vehicles but when i call ford motor company they say mine is not on the recall list even though it is doing the same thing that all the others have been recall for. i have call called two ford dealerships and they just say sorry yours is not included. this is a default in these engines that ford is not wanting to make good they are just trying to do as little as they can to get by. they should inspect these cars and fix them as well they should expand the recall include all of these vehicles. i have read on the internet that i am not the only one being told that ours is not on the list i hope all of these driver also contact you. a good vehicle should not leak antifreeze ford knows that there is a problem and should make them all good not just a few of them on the date it happened i am putting when i put antifreeze the first time
Correspondence with flood ford of east greenwich, ri to: michael whyte (ford service adviser), re: crash risk with 2013 ford escape (stalling while driving and also lack of being able to accelerate vehicle while engine is running). vehicle was brought to 2 different ford dealers for same problem and was told that they could diagnose and/or replicate problem. this issue and circumstance has been reported numerous times upon goggle searches (please see below). i contacted the ford customer relationship center again today to document the situation surrounding our vehicle (case # 8980601). please note that i had contacted them originally on february 29th (case #8916920) and they referred me to the flood dealership after we had brought the vehicle to the tasca dealership on february 28th and 29th. they tried to contact the service department at flood ford at 4:00pm today but were not able to get through. i also contacted the consumers for auto reliability and safety and they responded back with the following message and strongly emphasized not to drive the vehicle because of the potential crash risk. i am also in the process of reporting the defect to the national highway traffic safety administration and have also contacted the wjar consumer advocate department surrounding our dilemma to see if they can help us as well. hopefully the experts at ford can help provide additional insights as to how to best address this situation. with best regards, victor http://www.autonews.com/article/20140815/oem11/140819918/ford-recalls- > 2013 -escape-for-11th-time-this-time-for-wiring-problem > > > http://m.carcomplaints.com/ford/escape/2013/engine/engine_stalls_shuts > _do > wn_while_driving.shtml > > http://www.lemonlaw.com/wordpress/ford-escape-stalling-problems-contin > ue- > 160000-vehicles-recalled/

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. the contact noticed that a warning indicator illuminated, indicating that the coolant levels were low. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer four separate times for the same issue. the dealer diagnosed that the long block needed to be replaced due to the coolant leaking into the engine. the engine was replaced; however, the coolant was not replaced. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign numbers: 125v551000 (engine and engine cooling) and 12v4310000 (engine and engine cooling). the approximate failure mileage was 45,161. updated 03/15/17*lj *cn

I have a 1.6 l ford escape. it stalls unexpectedly - usually when i first start the car and begin to move it. restart is hard. i have pulled out into busy highway and it has stalled several times. the accident potential was great. it may be related to the 2l recall on this vehicle just issued. n0 code was found when a mechanic read the memory. this has happened a number of times. replaced battery and added gas conditioner. no change
Was in reverse pulling out of drive way, cross traffic indicator went off and car began to shake, put car in drive and drove after it stopped shaking. when i came to the first light the car would not go even as i had accelerator all the way down, the car revved but did not move until a minute later it slowly began to move with accelerator all the way down. gradually it picked up speed again but kept on shaking. while at the light the car seemed to be loosing electrical power and felt as though it would shut off as it had lost all power before due to the collision indicators sensing a crash.
Since january 18, my car has stalled many time while driving, has been to the dealership six times, not fixed, always unable to replicate. it has now been there for a week, trying to replicate the stalling. it has stalled while diving out of my driveway, on side streets, and twice on the highway. no engine lights go on, it just stalls. the radiator, the map sensor and now the battery have been replaced, still no fix. the water pump was replaced after a recall in 2014 after overheating and coolant leaks.
Vehicle overheated numerous times while in motion and at rest on the highway and on city streets. temperature spiked suddenly at random. checked coolant levels. coolant was low, so additional coolant was added. happened 3 times before taking into ford dealer. engine was torn down to block. coolant line was found leaking into engine. coolant was found in cylinder 3. a groove formed in the engine block. head gasket failed because of this. according to the ford dealership, nothing could have been done to cause or prevent this. there was no way of knowing that the damage was occuring. spoke with ford representatives. since the vehicle was approx. 12,000 miles outside of warranty, no repairs or reimbursement would be provided by them. spoke with the extended warranty reps. because the part that initially failed was a non-lubricated part, no services would be covered. the cost to repair the engine is $9,411. cost to tear the engine apart and diagnose was $1585.08. bought this vehicle at 62,000 miles in good faith that this was a reliable vehicle. all service was done on time with recommended service, with service records on hand
My ford escape 2013 stalls while driving at low speeds, like a parking lot, at a stop sign. it has done it now 4 times in 2016. the engine just loses power and stalls. the red oil lamp and battery lamp come on. no system check messages show. it will start sometimes and stall again immediately, sometimes it starts and then is ok for the remainder of the trip. the ford dealer couldn't find the problem when they checked it right after an incident. offered to drive it till they find the problem and give me loaner till then. ???

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. while driving various speeds, the vehicle would shift hard and a warning indicator illuminated on the instrument panel. the vehicle was towed to the dealer; however, the details of the diagnosis could not be provided. the vehicle was repaired. the contact stated that the windshield wiper fractured while the vehicle was being repaired. after the windshield wiper was repaired, the windshield was fractured by the dealer. the contact stated that the vehicle continued to shift hard after the repair. while attempting to accelerate from a stop, the vehicle would stall. the vehicle was shut off and turned back on, and the vehicle returned to normal. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer, but the cause of the failure could not be determined. also, while pulling into a parking spot, the contact heard an abnormal noise and the vehicle stalled after moving three feet. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vin and failure mileage were unknown.
Driving on the interstate when the car lost all power and all warning lights came on. i pulled onto the shoulder and noticed smoke coming from under the hood. got out to get a better look when the engine compartment burst into flames.
Fuel tank compressing, causing the vehicle to rough idle, surge or stall while driving with no warning. has stalled on three different occasions. unsafe to drive. check engine light illuminates. ford requires a $100 fee to check vehicle and stated customer would have to pay for repairs and then see if ford will reimburse.
Bought car october 2013, in fall of 2014 became aware of first recall for engine, however parts weren't available. by spring 2015, had four or five different recall notices and while waiting to drop car off for scheduled recall maintenance, check engine light came on. two days before drop off date, engine started overheating. took car in for recall, after almost a week got it back. wheel alignment was all out of whack and engine overheating continued intermittently. took to local mechanic and replaced one of the coil packs, o2sensor, and coolant valve. have continued to have intermittent overheating issues resulting in multiple trips to mechanic for service. replaced o2 sensor again. this past time, while on the interstate, car started overheating and resulted in having to back down off the entrance ramp (as i had pulled over to let the car cool) because it went into limp mode almost immediately and stopped accelerating. instances of overheating occurred while car was either in motion or even when just putting the car in gear. this last time, i had to drive in limp mode to the rental car agency to rent a car because i was going to miss a flight. my mechanic was able to try and replace some additional parts on the car and enable me to bring it home, but once again, it went into limp mode after overheating while we were driving.
I purchased my '13 escape se at the end of sept 2014. in december '14 it started leaking coolant and oil all over the driveway while it was parked. the weather strip was falling off the door. then when it was raining, water poured in through the reading light as i was backing out of the driveway. i brought it to the dealer and it took 3 weeks for repairs and recalls to be done. it went back for other recalls twice. in november '15 i got an alert while driving that coolant was low (3 weeks post oil change and "the works") and it was dangerously low. i refilled it and brought it back to the dealer - they were unable to diagnose the issue so it went unrepaired. december '15, i turned my car on and received an alert "engine fault service now" while still in park. i had to move it a few blocks and drove it at a slow rate, the car jerked back & forth while i drove it the 2 blocks before i parked it again. also brought it to the dealer and they stated the alert code was for a fuel line issue, but when they tested it there was no evidence of any issues.
