Problems with 2017 Chrysler Pacifica POWER TRAIN

On average, the 2017 Chrysler Pacifica starts to “feel” problems with the POWER TRAIN and its various aspects after 23 936 miles.

Components Affected by POWER TRAIN Issues

We have classified the 234 complaints from 2017 Chrysler Pacifica about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.

AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION 2

Recently reported POWER TRAIN problems on 2017 Chrysler Pacifica

The drivers side automatic sliding door will pop back open once it closes. at approximately 30-40 mph the transmission will slip and it is sounds like a popping noise.

Like other complaints. this has been an ongoing issue with our vehicle: driving at low speed (10mph or less) transmission does a hard shift as if it was trying to engage 2nd or 3rd shift. car does a huge bump when the shift is engaged.

The automatic transmission seems to skip a gear or two causing the vehicle to violently jerk the occupants forward. at times, it will not accelerate past a certain point and then lurch forward. this seems to happen when accelerating in various settings.

Many other drivers complaining about same issue: 1. driving at low speed (10mph or less) transmission does a hard shift as if it was trying to engage 2nd or 3rd shift. car does a huge bump when the shift is engaged. 2. at high speed (65mph ~) is possible to hear a rattling noise coming from left side panel / drivers side. this is very concerning for us. already have dealer check the vehicle but they always say they could not reproduce the issue. this is happening since the very first recall for this car. before the first recall, no issue.

When passing a farm tractor car went in to the passing gear and then there was no accelartion would not shift into any gear could not shut car off after awhile side doors wouldn't open after about 2 hours car finally started and went back to normal

When making a slow turn (15 mph) the transmission first lurched then banged into next gear. the front wheels slipped and lost traction sending the car out of the pavement. i was able to regain control. then when merging into the highway the transmission failed to reach higher gears leaving us running at just 30 mph and almost being rear ended several times just then the engine light came on. it is the 3rd time this transmission issue has happened. chrysler replaced the transmission body valve the first time, the second time the whole transmission was replaced both times it took about 30 days to perform the repair.

We have taken our 2017 chrysler pacifica to the dealer twice for a continuous issue of hard shifting mostly in 1st & 2nd gears. we have been jolting and have had the vehicle completely shut off on us.i was going about 12 mph. on monday, jan. 13, 2020 my 3.5 yo daughter and i were on a slight hill and the car seized up and lost all function. i slide (i was on a dirt road with some snow) into a ditch and looked out the window to see a large amount of red fluid on the ground. when i exited the vehicle i noticed the distinct smell of transmission fluid. my daughter and i were stuck for hours dealing with this situation. i feel very unsafe in this van. i am concerned if they try to "fix" the problem i will be in the same situation again.

Transmission intermittently jerks violently when accelerating from around 10-20 mph. this happens most often when we slow down to make a turn and are not coming to a full stop. so when we begin to accelerate after the turn, the van loses all forward momentum and feels like it's in neutral for about 2 seconds and then suddenly lunges forward throwing our heads back into the headrest pretty hard. we've been extremely close to being rear ended twice the past month. this transmission issue has happened roughly 25 times since we bought the van in oct. 2019.

Has a hard shift when switching gear. feels like you have been rear ended. i took it to the dealer to get fixed, they told me it was a software update only...this hasn't fixed the issue. now it shifts hard and is slipping constantly anytime the vehicle reaches above 30mph. the hard shifts cause whiplash to children and adults in the vehicle.

The transmission slipped out of gear and wouldn't shift. the problem occurred while i was driving on the street. this comes after numerous rough shifts that i was told was a computer issue on the transmission.

While driving approximately 65mph on the highway, all of the lights on the dash came on and the car started to slow down even though i had the cruise control set. i tried to press the accelerator and the car would not speed up. i pulled over and turned the dial to park but the p did not light up. while in park the car was jerking forward and i could not set the parking brake. i turned it off at that point and tried to turn it back on to solve the problem. the problem has not yet been solved.

While in motion at lower speeds the transmission violently jerks between gears giving the feeling the car is out of control.

While in motion at lower speeds the transmission violently jerks between gears giving the feeling the car is out of control.

When going about 10-15 miles per hour, the vehicle will suddenly lunge forward and make a tremendous clunking sound like metal against metal. this happens about a few times a month. it can be replicated by barely pressing down the gas pedal, usually happens when navigating through parking lots. very scary.

Automatic engine shutoff system shuts off vehicle on hills causing a rollback issue, safety problem. it also shuts off during heavy traffic heating up vehicle considerably. so far two different service departments cannot find any issues. 3 batteries have been replaced in 2 years time. transmission pops in and out of gear between 2nd and 3rd during city driving. no spare tire!! patch kit, good luck using it if you have a flat.

2017 chrysler pacifica, 33'400 miles- hesitation after placed into/ shifting gears from a stopped position, 5-10 seconds until the car jerks into gear from release of break pedal to engaging in selected gear. heated steering wheel feature only works intermittently, whether selected from settings with start or manually selected, all controls from steering wheel go out periodically after the vehicle has been in motion, will not work at all, including radio controls, cruise control button, u-connect button, vr button- not even the illumination of the controls works when this happens. usually after the car has been in motion for at least 10 minutes. has happened several times, but comes back on at random intervals while driving. has only happened on short trips. unknown cause. purchased vehicle used with 20k on it may 30,2019.

My vehicle was stationary while waiting at a red light. when the light turned green, i pushed the accelerator and suddenly, error messages appeared on the dashboard and my car shifted itself into park. i was unable to shift out of park despite multiple tries. i shut the car on and off multiple times and still, the car would not shift out of park. this caused the car to be disabled and not driveable, which is a significant safety issue as the car was blocking traffic.*dt*jb *dt*jb

While coming to a stop on a city street van loses all power and stalls after making a clicking noise. i have to put it in park and start the car again.*dt*jb

When driving an turning makes clanking noise under car, car get stuck in cars an then jerks when changes, been telling chrysler dealer where i get my repairs an tune ups i'm told it all part of the electrical system been telling them this since i got the car new 2017

We apparently have the same problem as many other chrysler pacifica owners. the van hard shifts into gear and it feels like someone has run into the back of our van. (it seriously hurts your back and neck.) the dealerships have reset the computers, etc but it hasn't solved the problem. we've been told by the service managers that they're familiar with this complaint but that chrysler has told them that the van is shifting correctly, they cannot do anything more and their hands are tied until chrysler comes up with a different solution.

When shifting from 1st to 2nd gear there is a large shudder and the car lunges forward and slams into gear very roughly. this nearly caused me to crash into another vehicle while driving.

The car misses different gears as you accelerate. feels as though the transmission is slipping upon acceleration. the vehicle is in motion with acceleration while these issues happen. it will happen on city streets and highways.

While driving, having reduced speed from 70 mph to 45 mph, experienced engine shut down. no power - coasting to stop, no power steering. warning on dash said, "put shifter in p to start." was able to safely pull off road and restart. continued on trip and same situation happened another 10-15 times. sometimes there was no shoulder and i had to come to a full stop in traffic to restart the vehicle.

The vehicle will stall and then hard shift from first to second gear. we initially noticed the hard shifting when we bought the vehicle but thought it might be the auto stop/start system. we didn't think much of it until it started shifting harder when we would stop or be driving. this, at times, caused issues when turning or accelerating to go through an intersection. the vehicle stalling causes a safety hazard and presents an opportunity for an accident to occur due to the delayed response of the vehicle. the cars following behind could potentially rear end the vehicle. the hard-shifting feels like someone hit you from behind and causes back and neck pain from the sudden jerking movement. this vehicle has also completely stopped when being driven causing a serious safety hazard. it started up again immediately after that incident only to not start at all a few months later. this vehicle has been nothing but trouble for us from the very beginning. we stayed optimistic that the recalls would fix the issues. they haven't. it's only a matter of time before someone is seriously injured or heaven forbid dies because of this issue. we have had 8+ service visits for this van. at one time it was completely inoperable and had to be towed to the service department. we are frustrated with chrysler and the service department at ancira chrysler, jeep and dodge in san antonio, tx.

Vehicle will constantly hard shift. either from a complete stop, where it will then hard shift and jerk you forward. sometimes multiple times in a row. have also experienced pressing on the gas pedal in a intersection and nothing. will not go and then all the sudden does a hard shift and will accelerate. this has been on city streets and highway. many times it will be from a complete stop. have taken it into the service department where i purchased the vehicle 1 year ago. find nothing wrong with it. never taken it in for any other issue.

Vehicle was being driven at approximately 35 mph when it spontaneously became extremely lower on power and lost all power steering along with numerous error messages and dash lights being illuminated. the van was able to be driven into a parking lot where it was restarted and driven through the lot. after approximately 30 seconds the van had the exact same issue but this time was not able to be restarted. martins chrysler of untion grove wisconsin came and picked up the vehicle. the owner of martins said the vehicle started but then he experienced the same issue we had. aside from some start/stop and electrical/charging system error messages previously there was no warning at the time of this incident. we've had the van in before for these error messages but the dealer never found the cause of the issue.

Vehicle will not start. starting gear shifter problem. note that vehicle is in park, vehicle not reading shifter location. vehicle was working fine the day prior to incident was parked overnight in my driveway issue presented itself the following morning when trying to start.

When accelerating from a stop light or stop sign the transmission sometimes shifts very hard, causing a jerking to passengers. brought to dealer. they said no code and they couldn't replicate so nothing they can do.

While in cruise control i had to accelerate and the transmission slammed into higher gear; felt like transmission coming out of vehicle. also slams when at a stop and pedal pushed down fast. also while moving and pedal pushed down fast as when needed to pass a vehicle. slamming can occur whether on city streets at slower speeds or highways at higher speeds. when i go to a dealer and ask about recalls or reports of the same issues they say no and move on with no further discussion. 3 year/36000 miles warranty covers only through the expected/predicted factory life of the parts. afterwards, they know parts will fail and consumers must pay for an extended warranty, which has a deductible, when parts fail if they don't want to pay for all the repair due to factory failures of not building a quality oriented vehicle, that should last at least 200,00 miles without failures. my current mileage is 38974.

When accelerating from a complete stop or in between 5-10 mph there is no forward movement but as the accelerator is pushed the rpm's go up until there is a rear impact type feeling that occurs and the transmission engages and at this point the vehicle continues forward. in the instances where it happens at the 5-10 mph area, it typically happens when you let off the accelerator and 'coast' then push the accelerator to go continue forward. this has been occurring since i purchased the vehicle in 2017 and was told by the dealership that this behavior from the vehicle is a 'characteristic' of the van. i have filed numerous complaints with chrysler and everytime i take it to the dealerships i complaint about this as well. i also had to have the engine and transmission mounts replaced and even after fixing those the vehicle still continues to have this issue. it is not happening consistently but approximately 5-10 times a week. l

We were driving in marrietta ga around 11am in heavy traffic, when my wife stared to accelerate the transmission shifted hard,(i thought we got rear ended),my wife's car would not shift gears,so we are doing 30mph in heavy traffic trying to get off the road safely with our kids in the car,so we finally got off the road, got out to check the car,in chrysler & dodge newer models you cannot check transmission level because of sealed dip stick,so i googled the problem, their was tons of reviews of this problem from chrysler pacifica owners, chrysler said it was normal from the reviews, this can't be normal, please check into this before some one gets killed ,(2017 chrysler pacifica) thanks david

My 2017 pacifica touring plus van shut off three times. after the first shut off i took it to dealer for this issue, but they could not able to recreate the "shut off" , they said they fixed something for not to shut off, but recently on 7/29/19 and 7/31/19 it was again asked to move shift to p and shut off, even i tried to restart the engine, it didn't after 3 to 4 times try it was started again. i was middle of the road with speed limit 40mph, lucky none of the vehicle was not close. i see many cases like this with 2017 chrysler pacifica, so i request chrysler pacifica to fix this issue asap by recalling the affected vehicles. it is always life threatening dangerous to the customer. other than this issue (shut off) the vehicle is good.

Very hard gear shifts at low speed - city driving. jolt to passengers - feels like a low speed rear end bump. also, vehicle transmission may not engage when attempting 3 point turn. unable to move. check engine light now on with code p0732 - gear 2 incorrect ratio.

I have taken this vehicle in for repairs multiple times and it is schedule for repairs again this week. there have been multiple electrical issues including problems with the sliding doors, anti lock brake system had to be replaced, the battery system is grounding out, issues with the radio screen, and now the auto on off system is not working. in addition, i had to take the vehicle in for the ball joints bolts coming loose three time and they just used loctite to make them say on . they never realigned the vehicle and now i have to replace tires that are unsafe. chrysler should own this and i am still convinced the ball joints could be damaged from this issue and they should replace them. however, the biggest issue is the transmission. it will be going in for the fifth time this week for the same issue that the dealer keep claiming is how i drive it. when taking off from a dead stop the transmission hesitates, which is a serious safety issue. also, when driving and you let off the accelerator to brake it will hammer real hard. this a serious safety issue and chrysler and the dealer refuse to own it. i filed my second complaint with chrysler last week. this all needs to be resolved so i have a safe vehicle for my family. i feel they are stalling so my warranty will run out and i have no recourse.

While driving my 2017 chrysler pacifica on 7/11/2017 the minivan completely shut off in the middle of the intersection , i have to put it in park and start the vehicle again , hard shifting is been a common issue on a daily basis .

Have taken vehicle into dealer 3 times for hard shifting, check engine light, and when slowing down at time a hard jerk almost like someone running in the back of the vehicle. they claimed once it was that the oil needed changing and this last time that it had the wrong oil and oil filter ( which the dealer had done). they can never had the jerking issue or the hard shifting issue repeated. also recently it hesitates like no power when hitting the gas. over having it in the shop for 2 days each time and it is still under warranty with under 30,000 miles..

Tl* the contact owns a 2017 chrysler pacifica. while driving 70 mph, the vehicle stalled and turned off on its own. the contact was able to restart the vehicle and drove to a nearby parking lot, but the vehicle stalled again. the contact purchased a new battery and was able to drive the vehicle at a slow speed to her residence. the contact stated that the warning message on the instrument panel indicated that the emergency brake was off. the vehicle was taken to wallace chrysler jeep dodge ram (located at 2755 se federal hwy, stuart, fl 34994, (772) 220-3600), but was not diagnosed or repaired. the contact stated that the transmission was replaced the previous year. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 19,000.

Service shifter warning- vehicle decides to give this warning which causes van to lock transmission in park and engages e-brake. luckily this has only happened when vehicle is stationary, but has occurred on neighborhood street, in restaurant drive thru, in our driveway and in parking lots. we continue to have this issue even after dealership replaced transmission valve body control that was expected to fix the ongoing problem. van has been towed or out of service 4 times now for same issue.

When the van reaches speeds between 35 - 45 miles per hour, the transmission jerks. this happens mostly on the highway or streets where the speed limit is greater than 35 mph.

First, the two batteries in the vehicles are failing prematurely. ours just failed about a week after the start/stop system light activated on dash. our van was parked for 7 days at an airport and upon returning from vacation the batteries were dead and unable to be recharged. ironically, my sister-in law in california whom we were visiting, had the exact same problem with theirs while we were there. again, a 2017 chrysler pacifica. my research shows this is a reoccurring issue all across the country according to google research and carcomplaints.com. some people are having their van die or stall while in motion. second, there is a problem with the paint bubbling up around the hood edges. again, my research on google and carcomplaints.com reveals many are suffering this bubbling paint issue. last, the transmission has an extremely hard shift intermittently between 10 to 15 mph. so hard in fact, it feels as if you have been rear ended. again, research on google and carcomplaints, com and pacifica forums, indicate this is not an isolated issue. many are experiencing this issue.

The check engine light comes on and the car stall, stops in the middle of the street while im driving with my children. it spent over a month at south shore chrysler in ny before they figured out what was wrong, claimed it was fixed, and the same thing started happening all over again- check engine light and stalling on the road. it has been at south shore chrysler in inwood for about a month now, and nothing has been done to fix this car. it is a danger to drive. i know ny has lemon laws and i want chrysler to buy me out of the remaining 6 months of my lease and take responsibility for this dangerous and faulty car.

We bought the car new and there has been an on going random problem car that feels like a hard jolt, like being hit from behind, a loud clunk noise and hesitation when it is shifting gears. it started shortly after 10,000 miles and still continues at 50,000 miles. it happens the majority of the time at 15mph but has happened at 35 mph also. we have had to be checked by the dealership several times and they can not duplicate the problem on demand. they have updated software and replaced a module but it still occurs. this is a safety issue as we have no idea when this will happen and could easily cause an accident. the last time it happened five times within a two hour time period. we drove straight to the dealer and they kept the car eight days and were never able to duplicate the problem so we were told there is nothing wrong with the car. it is just not true. chrysler cares said since there is nothing to fix they cannot help us. we have no choice but to get rid of the car for the safety of our family.

Tl* the contact owns a 2017 chrysler pacifica. the contact stated that the vehicle failed to accelerate immediately after a complete stop until it reached approximately 30 mph. afterwards, the vehicle would accelerate normally. the vehicle was taken to hanford chrysler jeep (369 n 11th ave, hanford, ca 93230) to be diagnosed, but they were not able to replicate the failure. the contact also stated that the failure occurred every time the vehicle was driven below 30 mph. the failure began since the vehicle was purchased in july of 2018. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 25,008.

I was pulling out into traffic and tried to accelerate and the vehicle wouldnt until i heard and felt an enormous bang from the transmission finally shifting. had i not had a center lane i wouldve been hit by another vehicle. dealership stated they can not replicate it so nothing is wrong. im afraid to drive it especially with my family.

Leasing 2017 pacific touring l. ever since it passed 8k miles, jerking movements after coming to a stop, like some body hit you from behind. took it east hills chrysler and jeep dealer in long island, ny twice. the first time they updated the software they said. 2nd time they couldn't duplicate the problem. ofcourse cuz this jerking movement happens. sometimes. in june 2019 this is happening a lot everyday with the ny city traffic on the highway. may 2019, van stalled while stopped at red light. screen said 'shift to park to drive....' had to do shift and press the start button twice to get the control back of the vehicle. this time wife and 2 children with me. of course ppl started honking and yelling cuz it's nyc. also most of the time while fueling, the fuel pump stops. really scared to drive this van anymore.

Car jerks while driving and accelerating on the road. the car jerks while in motion city and highway driving. chrysler dealership are unable to fix this issue, they have changed battery and updated software but car is still jerking while in motion.

My van has had this issue since around 29,000 miles and i am currently around 53,000. i have been to the dealership over 15 times and still have no solution because the problem doesn't show on a computer, nor does it happen when a service tech is with me. when the van is shifting between 1st and 2nd there is a jolt like being hit from behind and a noise. i have this on video 3 separate times and the service advisor tells me that it is normal for a 9 speed transmission to do this. there is no way this is normal, others have been with me and have thought i have slammed on brakes because the jolt is so strong. this happens in parking lots, turns and from a complete stop to start. it always happens at 14-15 mph and is extremely scary at times and there is no solution from anyone.

While driving around 30 mph the car on its own slipped out of the drive gear and the dashboard chimed and reported the car was in reverse, the gear knob indicated the same however the car was not in reverse. as i proceeded to drive in traffic, i switched the gear knob to drive and accelerated. the car was sluggish and the rpm were not registering. i drove home (5 miles) slowly because the car was sluggish seemed to only be in first gear. car was towed to the dealership. they are unable to recreate the problem. this is a safety hazard.

The car has rough shifting

While driving my 2017 chrysler pacifica at low speeds (10mph-20mph) it seams to shift out of gear and then slams back in startling everyone in the vehicle feeling like we were rear ended. we have had this vehicle back to the dealer multiple times for the software update. after the update it drives ok for a while then happens again. while operating this vehicle making a left turn into a lane with on coming traffic it occurred almost causing me to get into an accident.
