My transmission jerks hard when shifting between 1st and 2nd and 2nd and 3rd gear. this happens at a slow speed around 15 mph. it feels like i have been rear ended by another vehicle. it then will lurch forward like i hit the gas pedal. one of the times i was out of town. when the transmission jerked it would not change to a higher gear. i had to park the car, cut off the motor for and hour, and then was able to drive the rest of the way home. the dealer has refreshed the computer and did a recall, but it still is not fixed. i have had it to the dealer 3 times. they say nothing can be done unless they can duplicate the problem. one time the service engine light actually came on for several hours but was off when i started the car the next morning.. on 10 may 2018 i was told by the service advisor that the new cars have a mind of their own and learn the drivers driving habits. so i felt like they were blaming it on me. how stupid is that comment?

Van stalls while driving. this has happened more than once. dealer could find no codes as to why this is happening. very dangerous when it happened at hwy speeds.

Tl* the contact owns a 2017 chrysler pacifica. the contact took the vehicle to the sport durst chrysler dodge jeep dealer (513 durham-chapel hill blvd, durham, nc 27707; 919-724-4677) to have the vehicle repaired for a recall regarding the door locks. the vehicle was repaired. shortly after the repair, the transmission warning indicator illuminated. the contact returned the vehicle to the same dealer where it was diagnosed that the computer needed to be reprogrammed. the computer system was updated. the failure recurred three more times and the contact returned the vehicle to the dealer a total of four times. the contact stated that the vehicle was presently at the same dealer, but they were unable to identify the cause of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the recall details were not provided. the approximate failure mileage was 23,600. ..updated 10/30/17 *bf updated 11/13/2017*js

Aug 2017 purchased at 14k miles, then rattle noise on start up, then rattle noise upon pressing the gas pedal while accelerating or de accelerating, now downshifting hard, shifting hard to the point it gets stuck for a second, people have almost rear ended me, i have almost rear ended people pressing gas to get it to go and it sticking then suddenly speeding up

Vehicle has a vibration/shudder that chrysler considers "normal." has been in for service to two separate dealerships a total of six times, with no resolution. engine vibration continues to worsen, and have driven other vehicles without similar vibration. others have reported vehicle will eventually shut off while driving, rendering no steering or brakes. i do not care to have a vehicle with my children in the car that can/will shut off while driving. chrysler has been zero help, and will be pursuing buyback process immediately...updated 10/30/17*bf updated 11/13/2017*js

As i was driving the vehicle sometimes goes like it was in neutral then the gear kicks in it feels like if someone rear ended you i have taken it to dealer but no fix yet

Transmission slipping then shifting hard into gear. the time between shifts is several seconds making pulling out into traffic difficult and dangerous. this happens when the vehicle is at low speed under low to moderate engine load.

Only a few thousand miles with the vehicle, the vehicle would make clicking noises as i turn the vehicle (doesn't matter left or right). dealer service dept checked and replaced defective right axle. at 10k miles, left axle failure. dealer service dept checked and replaced a broken left axle. this break also caused the e-brakes to no longer engage and while the car was in park no brakes were applied thereby allowing the car to continue rolling unless your foot was on the brakes or a block of wood is placed at the tire to prevent rolling. when i spoke to the service rep, he mentioned that front axle failure seems to be common in the pacifica. this nearly killed me and my family. thankfully we weren't struck as we got stuck mid left turn with opposing traffic speeding downhill. i do not feel this vehicle is safe and further investigation is necessary. had this had occurred while a car was coming downhill, in a busy intersection, or at high speeds on the freeway, we would have been in a major accident. we got lucky and i no longer feel safe driving my family in this vehicle. ..updated 10/30/17 *bf updated 11/09/2017*js

Vehicle stalled on freeway, gradual lost of power and came to a stop. tried to inch vehicle to the side shoulder to avoid traffic. called assist and was able to re-start van after a few times trying the push start button. drove straight to dealer but they gave no explanation. bought vehicle less than 30 days before incident occurred.

While traveling at low speeds, especially when making turns/ coming out of parking lots, our chrysler pacifica will stall. it does a hard shift and jolts forward, as if a gear has slipped or we have been rear-ended. the first time we took it in for this issue was in september of 2017 when the car had about 32,000 miles. numerous 'software updates' have been done and a valve throttle body was put on in june 2018 to try and resolve the issue after many former attempts. it worked for a couple months, but now we are experiencing the stall/ hard shift again. chrysler's customer care has blantantly denied me the opportunity to speak to supervisors and points the finger at the dealership, while they point fingers ar chrysler. the car is 2 years old and doesn't give me any hope of ever really being fixed. we have been meticulous about maintenance and have only taken it to certified chrysler dealerships. our first family car purchased together has been an experience we don't want others to go through. chrysler is not taking responsibility for producing unsafe vehicles.

The vehicle suddenly appeared to shift into neutral, while still in "drive", going approximately 40 mph. the accelerator was completely unresponsive and driver was unable to shift into another gear. the vehicle repeatedly said "not in park" while in park, showed the reverse camera while in drive, and would not accelerate when in drive. fortunately the driver noticed the check engine light had come on and was pulling into a gas station when the unresponsive accelerator occurred, otherwise a collision would most definitely have happened. .updated 10/25/17 *bf

I purchased my 2017 chrysler pacifica touring l on 7/22/2017, everything was going great until mid august. my uconnect radio kept freezing, the engine ticked (stopped itself within a few weeks), the tailgate got stuck half way a few times trying to automatically close. it's just stop midway and i'll have to manually push it shut close. within later months (beginning around october) my began to jerk back every so often (about twice a week) while driving. it's happened at both high and low speeds so i'm not sure what the problem is. i've took it to the dealership service center multiple times but they don't have a solution or 'fix' for the problem. since they don't have a solution they won't do anything about it. recent month (december/january) the jerking is getting worse. it's beginning to jerk almost everyday, sometimes more than three times a day! i've been continuing to pay my lease for a car i'm terrified of driving. i've read so many horror stories of people pacifica's stalling while on the freeway. i refuse to have my family ride in what suppose to be a safe vehicle. i took the vehicle in for repair last week for the engine stalling and they still don't have a resolution to the fix. the day after i picked up my vehicle, while driving home that night it jerked back while going down a city main street. a few minutes later it gave me this message on the dash (image attached)

Tl* the contact owns a 2017 chrysler pacifica. the contact stated that the start and stop feature was inoperable and the vehicle failed to start. while driving various speeds, the vehicle shifted roughly and all the instrument cluster warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to stew hansen dodge ram chrysler jeep (2103 hickman rd, urbandale, ia 50323, (877) 841-4585 where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired several times; however, the failure recurred. the manufacturer was contacted and did not assist. the failure mileage was 15,000. *bf *tp

Vehicle is loosing acceleration and/or all power while in operation. vehicle will be moving in drive and then will not accelerate upon pressing gas pedal. has also completely shut off while in drive, and had to be put into park and restarted. this is a very dangerous problem since it happens while the vehicle is in motion in the drive function. this has occurred three times now over the course of 6 weeks. every time it occurred on a city street at either an intersection or in a line of traffic. vehicle was taken to certified chrysler dealership after the second occurrence, where we were told there was no problems with the transmission or any codes showing up when diagnostics were performed. vehicle is not fit for driving as it seems it will just randomly loose acceleration or turn off during operation.....updated 11/03/17 *bf updated 11/09/2017*js

The van has less than 200 miles in it when it stated stalling. it now has 205 miles, and it has stalled(engine stopped) 5 times already. this occured when decelerating or when fully stopped with the gears still in drive. the engine will stop and a message on the dashboard to put the vehicle in park to start will appear. restarting the engine is normal with no issues....updated 11/06/17 *bf updated 11/09/2017*js

Vehicle shut off while driving down the road. happened twice since owning the vehicle 7/15/17 & 9/9/17. vehicle dashboard said "stop and shift to park". we took to dealership and they said they couldn't replicate program.

The vehicle has 950 miles on it, a rotatory gear shift know, and an electronic parking brake. at home i park the vehicle on a level surface. i do not engage the parking brake when i leave the vehicle. on quite a few occasions when i enter the vehicle and turn on the engine, the parking-brake light comes on and the brake is engaged even though i did not set it. for most occurrences, i can press the parking brake button, and the light will go off and the brake will disengage. however, on some occasions, pressing the brake button gives no response. if i turn the engine off and then back on, the brake then disengages. a few times i have had to turn the engine on and off more than one time to get the brake disengaged. a more series problem with the parking brake is that on several occasions the brake has suddenly come on while i am driving. this has occurred when i have started the engine and driven about 100 feet. it has occurred when i am moving forward and when i am backing up. the brake suddenly engages and brings the vehicle to an abrupt halt. on these occasions pressing the brake button gave no response. i had to turn the engine off and back on. 7/5 i stopped at a pharmacy drive-up window, and put the vehicle into park. after my transaction, i rotated the gear knob to drive, and the parking brake light then went on. i pressed the brake button multiple times, and the light would not go out. i then turned the engine off and back on. (to do this i had to have pressure on the brake pedal.) when i turned the engine back on the vehicle took off at significant speed, and i crashed into a street light pole. when a tow truck came to get the vehicle the truck operator found that the vehicle gear knob was in the park gear. he had a good deal of difficulty in getting the vehicle into neutral gear for the towing process. have pictures upon request. .....updated 11/03/17 *bf ..updated 11/13/2017*js ...updated 11/17/17 *bf *js *tr

Current mileage: 5560, my van is currently in shop for transmission related issues for the third time. the vehicle looses all the power all of a sudden in the middle of the road while driving. i have had this happen on four different occasions, couple times on highways and couple times on city streets, have to pull to a shoulder immediately (glad i could). have to try 3 to 4 times to start the vehicle and sometimes even hard to turn the dial to get the van moving. on my first visit to the dealership they have mentions its tcm software issue, second visit they said it was tcm line issue, had to order parts and get it fixed, took 10 days. now three weeks later have similar incidents happen and now the van is back in the shop, they said they have to order smoother part in regards to transmission and its on back order. i am worried about the safety of my family with this van, i have called the company and informed them about my concerns, i searched through the web to see if there are others experiencing the same issue and i have seen quite a few of them in the same boat. seems like a known issue with this transmission. not sure of the direction i need to go in this regards.....updated 11/03/17 *bf updated 11/09/2017*js *js

Hard shifting in low gear (and now sometimes at high speed). the problem began before 25,000 miles. have taken it to the dealer multiple times for a fix. i'm always told the problem can't be reproduced. i'm now just waiting for the transmission to fail. this is unacceptable.

Highway speed, heavy traffic, engine suddenly stopped. warning sounds and lights on dash. loss of power steering. had to come to complete stop in middle of highway traffic, place in park, depress brake, push start button. occurred june 22, 2017 about 3200 miles on new vehicle. no resolution from dealership or chrysler. chrysler instructed dealership to report loaner car as stolen. also requested data recorder be installed and i continue to drive until occurs again. i refused to place my family at risk. have since purchased other brand replacement vehicle and am trying to arrange buy-back...updated 11/07/17 *bf updated 11/09/2017*js

2017 chrysler pacifica. consumer writes in regards to electrical issues. *ld the consumer stated the vehicle slams into gear. the transmission was replaced twice, but the failure recurred. there was a rattling noise under the driver's side. the vehicle failed to start leaving the driver and passenger's stranded. *js

Transmission failed on us 3 times. first was backing out of a parking spot, totally locked up for 15 minutes. reset and ran fine. next, with wife and 3 kids in the van, transmission locked up at 45 miles per hour almost causing her to crash and get hit. all lights came on and electronic parking brake engaged. dealership took 2 weeks to fix and said it was fine. next, i was driving at 55 mph and transmission locked up. almost died. no a/a by the grace of god. all lights came on and parking brake engaged again. now, chrysler is replacing the entire transmission. we won't take it back. family almost died twice...updated 07/20/17 *bf *tr

While driving on a busy street, my 2017 chrysler pacifica suddenly lost the ability to accelerate. i was in an intersection pumping the gas pedal with nothing happening. the warning message on the dash read "shift vehicle to park" (or similar). i coasted to a stop with cars nearly missing me, shifted to park, turned the car off, then turned it back on, shifted to drive and pulled directly into a parking lot. i called chrysler roadside and was towed to the dealership where my car is now. according to what i'm seeing on chrysler forums, this is beginning to happen across the country & chrysler is not addressing this extremely serious situation. thank you for your time and i look forward to a response.

Vehicle stop running randomly. stopped running while on road. how to completely stop put in park to restart period safety issue big time

Transmission not shifting from first gear or second gear, stalling in intersection or when acceleration on freeway.

New 2017 chrysler pacifica hybrid with 270 miles stalled on a busy intersection and won't turn on. the vehicle was in motion when it lost power and came to a complete stop. the engine sign is on and message says "press brake to prevent rollong". turning off and turning the it back on does not make the issue go away.

At times when i step on the gas to accelerate the transmission does not always engage properly and it slips causing a delay in taking off. i have had it back to the dealer for all upgrades or reprograms for this problem and yet the problem still persists. the other day i was pulling out of a parking lot onto a highway on which there was oncoming traffic. i stepped on the gas and the transmission did not engage properly and then the car did not accelerate as it should have which then caused the oncoming traffic to have to break in order to avoid hitting me. thankfully, that vehicle was able to stop before hitting me, but i am fearful that one day i will be in a situation where i won't be so lucky when the transmission does this. this has also happened to me when i have had to slow down while on an interstate or highway and then had to accelerate to resume traveling with the other vehicles on the road. at times when the slippage occurs the transmission shifts very hard which is quite alarming.

Van stalls and jerks

Its new pacifica van with safety package. it stopped suddenly in the middle of the road as if parking break is applied, it showed a number of warnings including parking break malfunction, transmission issue, traction control issue. i put flashers on, tried to stop and start the vehicle , it did not not allow me to change gears to drive. it is very dangerous if the same issue happens on a highway , this can cause serious collision, more dangerous for a mini van carrying family

The first problem was that the car shuddered and made loud "clunking" noises when shifting gears. it would often quit running when at low speeds as in parking lots. while at high speeds on the interstate car just didn't feel "right." wanted to quit. took it in the first time and they reprogrammed the transmission which seemed to help for a short while. then, it started acting up again and when returning to the dealer this time they advised a lubricant was needed. not sure what or where this was applied.

Tl* the contact owns a 2017 chrysler pacifica. while attempting to accelerate from a red light, the vehicle failed to accelerate and the onboard computer displayed a transmission code. the vehicle was taken to a dealer. the mechanic stated that there was no transmission code and that the failure was due to the contact fueling the vehicle while the engine was running. while the contact was turning left at an intersection at 10 mph, the vehicle failed to accelerate again and stopped in the middle of the intersection. after 5-6 seconds, the vehicle jerked forward and accelerated as the check engine indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer again, but was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure occurred four times. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. the approximate failure mileage was 7,000.

After placing the vehicle in reverse and applying gas the vehicle will start to reverse as intended. however, after moving several feet the transmission completely fails and the vehicle does not respond to added pressure from the gas pedal. it's as if the transmission shifts to neutral on its own and the engine revs its rpms with no result. this has happened at least 3 times on a slight incline and the vehicle begins to roll uncontrollably. it creates moments of confusion for the driver since they believe they should be moving backwards in reverse but the transmission lets go and starts to actually roll forwards. this has happened at home in the drive way as well as in a public parking lot. after the scenario happens, the r on the shifter blinks uncontrollably. the only way to reset the car is to turn it off and restart it. at that point it appears the transmission re-engages.

The following issue has happened twice to my wife while driving our new chrysler pacifica 2017 limited. she was at a busy highway intersection waiting for her light to turn green and started to go then the engine shut off while half way in the intersection. the screen stated that car must be in park to put it in drive. she had to put the vehicle in park while in the intersection and then push the button to start the vehicle back up. each time this has happened when starting the vehicle back up it has a rough idle for about 30 seconds and then everything is functional again. we took the vehicle into the shop the next day, told the technician what had happened who in turn hooked the car up to the computer. they checked the car and it didn't have any codes on it, as if nothing happened. no software updates were needed on the car as well that could potential fix this issue. after the second time this occurred the dealership installed a "black box" to capture the issue if it occurred again, however during the week we had it on the vehicle it didn't happen again. since this time our vehicle has been in the shop numerous times for the transmission. we have had 2-3 computer upgrades which was supposed to solve the transmission issues however there are still times where the car jerks when we accelerate. we do not feel safe with this vehicle and have done some research. there are quite a lot of people experiencing the exact same problem. chrysler needs to address this issue before a fatal accident occurs.

Tl* the contact owns a 2017 chrysler pacifica. while driving over 40 mph, the vehicle jerked. while the vehicle was idling at a traffic light or stop sign, an abnormal knocking sound was heard coming from the transmission. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to central florida chrysler jeep dodge ram (8675 commodity cir, orlando, fl 32819 (407) 351-9940) where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired; however, the repair did not correct the failure. the vehicle was taken back to the central florida dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 33,000. the vin was not available.

9/21/16 7 days after purchase 822 miles driven vehicle at rest in driveway displays service shifter and requires new shifter installed before driveable. 10/11/16 1717 miles driven vehicle will not start at rest. after 15 minutes it finally starts sounds like a lawnmower and vehicle shaking starts. 2/28/17 15428 miles driven vehicle in motion on i-80 traveling in heavy rain when windshield wipers freeze for several minutes. i had my children in the vehicle and we came 6 inches away from being hit by a semi as we tried to navigate to the side of the road with zero visibility. car had to be restarted for wipers to engage. 3/1/17 15559 miles driven vehicle in motion crossing a street with 45 mph speed limit and vehicle dies leaving me stalled in the middle of traffic. chrysler tows to local dealer and replaces 1 spark plug, 1 ignition coil, 6 gaskets according to service report. vehicle continues to shake at idle. 9/8/17 30000 miles driven when i press accelerator from stopped position, vehicle does not move. i press harder and vehicle makes a clunk then surges from 0 to 53 mph and the brake is firm and i have trouble slowing down. within 15 minutes while vehicle is in motion at 48 mph engine dies and vehicle stops blocking traffic both ways in an intersection where traffic travels at 45-50 mph. message on dash says "shift to park" but brake is hard and shift knob will not turn to p. using push button start i am able to restart the vehicle while in drive and proceed to dealer where the chrysler service team tells me that i will have to continue driving the vehicle until it happens again because they cannot fix it unless they see it happen. this is the third time my life has been risked and they aren't fixing the issue. i have had 5 warranty replacements, over 50 days out of service and dozens of other failures. service records too big to upload. ..updated 10/26/17 *bf

I purchased my new vehicle and inside of 2 months i had two major problems. i went shopping and when i arrived at my destination and tried to park the car would not shift into park. no matter how long i waited or slowly or quickly i turned the shifting knob it would not shift into park. the parking break was also behaving strangely and would disengage on it's own as i tried to troubleshoot the problem. i had to keep my foot on the break pedal to keep the car from rolling away. my husband and i decided to try turning the car off in the hope that the matter would resolve itself and that is when we discovered that the car would not shut down. no matter what we did it would not turn off or shift into park. we immediately drove to the dealership and dropped the car off since we had no idea what else we could do and it was a tremendous safety issue. today september 20, 2016 i experienced another electrical parking problem. while i was driving in very light traffic and a safe distance away from other cars the emergency breaking alarm went off. i was in the middle of crossing an intersection when the alarm started blaring and "break" flashed in large red letters. in my opinion there was no reason for that warning and i feel that this issue might be somehow tied to the other issues listed above. the first issues occured on 07-10-2016.
