We have classified the 234 complaints from 2017 Chrysler Pacifica about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
I purchased a new 2017 chrysler pacifica van in november 2016. i started to notice a hard shifting pattern, so hard that it feels like i'm being rear-ended by another vehicle. i have taken it to the dealership 4 times with this complaint on 9/13/17, 6/11/18, 2/27/19 and 5/24/19. the first 3 visits i was told that there was a "software update" and that should fix the problem. the hard shifting would be fixed for about 1 week and it would start back up again. my last visit on 5/24/19 i was told that no shifting issues were appearing on the diagnostics test. my van continues to hard shift on a daily basis. this is becoming a real safety concern as one time it shifted so hard while i was driving on the highway it completely jolted my car. another instance, while dropping my child off at school at the drop off line, i was completely stopped with my break on and as i slowly began to accelerate my car was not moving and then all of a sudden jerked forward. i almost hit the car in front of me. i've been reading countless blogs and forums of the same complaint with other 2017 chrysler pacifica's. most of the people who drive this vehicle have young children in the car. i do not feel safe in my van and even my eight-year-old keeps asking if we are getting hit from behind by another car because of the jolting. it is a very scary moment when this jolting occurs and it increases my heart rate every time this happens, this happens to me at least three to four times per day.
Currently have 53,078 miles on this van. it is serviced regularly by the same dealership we bought it from. today as i was picking up my kids from school( speed limit is 15 mph) van suddenly lost power, it made beeping noise, and dash said to shift to park. i shifted to park and shut it down then restarted. it is driving normal again but i'm still taking it into dealership because ever since it had a software update last year, i have had issues with transmission slipping as i drive on highway. it slows down by itself and jerks van roughly as it automatically shifts to next gear. also the trunk stopped making beeping sound when it opens.
I've taken my vehicle to ocala nissan shortly after purchase and explained to them that the vehicle was jerking around 15 mph. they tested it and said nothing was wrong because the problem could not be duplicated. the next time i took it i drove with a service advisor and the vehicle did not duplicate. however on the way home it did. the advisor recommended me take the vehicle to be assessed @ my expense. i couldn't afford it at the time so i waited until an oil change was due. on may 15th chryster did an assessment and did not find a problem. they even drove my vehicle 19 miles! the advisor even mentioned that there were 'stored codes' on my vehicle, but did not do any repair! today may 19th my check engine light is on and my vehicle is slow to accelerate!
Issues when the vehicle is moving at slow speed going from what feels like 1st second gear and a very hard thump feeling is felt. rpm guarge gpes from 1500-300 rpm very rapidly then the vehicle shifts gears and the thump or hard shift is felt. can happen either on highway, city street any roads at all.
Our pacifica was stopped at a stoplight. when the light turned green, the parking brake engaged and a message came up that said to service the shifter. we were able to turn off the engine and restart it, but we were not able to get the pacifica to shift to drive or to get the parking brake to disengage. sheriff's deputies who came and remained on scene with us who are familiar with chrysler cars were also not able to get our pacifica to move. thankfully this incident happened in a situation that was not terribly busy. i am concerned that this would have been extremely dangerous if it had occurred on a busy road. the document from the repair cites tsb 18-002-19. the work that was done was to replace the shifter. our van only had 41962 miles on it at the time of the incident. if this is a common issue, some work should be done to set up some sort of recall that would make this less of a safety issue. as a result of this incident and a similar incident due to a hood latch sensor failure we no longer felt safe in this vehicle. once the repair was complete, we traded in the van to buy something we feel much more safe in.
Sporadically when shifting at around 15 mph vehicle jerks so hard that it feels like you have gotten hit from behind. this has happened hundreds of times since around 10k miles and now i am at 27k miles. the dealer cannot replicate the problem but i feel it is extremely unsafe. all that has been done to try to fix the vehicle is perform the transmission software update and it did nothing. also opened a case with chrysler and they have not done anything.
The vehicle will undergo a hard shift when changing from either 1st or 2nd gear. this happens intermittently under no specific conditions with different driving styles the van currently has 31k miles on it with no known accidents or repairs. these symptoms have occurred during city and highway driving. the shift is hard enough to give the feeling that the van has been rear-ended.
Vehicle "jerks" when automatically shifting. this happens at slow speeds, while in motion, on city streets. has been taken to dealer, and was told nothing could be done unless the "check engine" light was on. passenger side sliding door will retract as if something is blocking its track when there is nothing there. paint is bubbling on the hood
Upon a start from a start, the car bucks between the speeds of 14-17 mph while accelerating. the reaction from the car feels like the car was hit from behind. it is random and i not been able to correlate the action with any particular driving characteristic such as a slow or fast start. the car has about 30,000 miles as of this writing and has about 25,000 as of the date of first occurrence.
This problem occurs at least once a week. this happens as the vehicle is accelerating and reaches between 15 to 18 mph. the car stops shifting and feels like it is just shutting off. i have to press hard on the gas pedal to get the vehicle to respond. i have asked the service department twice to fix the problem. both times, they informed me that the computer scanner shows no concerns and that the technician cannot find the problem after taking the vehicle for a drive. the last technician informed my that chrysler is denying the issue because the computer scanners shows no issues. he informed me that chrysler knows about the issue and will continue to deny it until the government makes them. the other day my husband took the vehicle to the store and he came back a nervous wreck. this same concern happened to him. he said he doesn't know how i drive this vehicle everyday. he thought the transmission just fell out of the car when it didn't properly shift gears. i have three young children and husband that ride in this vehicle with me. i am terrified that one day i will be rear-ended because of the problem with the transmission. if someone is following too closely, one day i will be hit. i have talked to other friends who have the 2018 model and they said the safety concern has carried onto their vehicle and was not corrected. this concern started before 10,000 miles and still continues at over 47,000 miles.
As we are driving along, especially after a stop or slowing down for a turn, the car jerks suddenly and then accelerates on its own. this has been happening more and more often.
When my pacifica is stationary the following dangerous action occurs every time. when the transmission is placed in park and my foot is removed from the brake pedal, the car will roll between 6 inched to 1o inches. i have been told by two different chrysler dealer service departments, "that is normal". i know that this is not normal because i have talked to at least three owners of the same make year and model that tell me, theirs does not roll in park. in addition i have owned at least 2 dozen cars, trucks, and rvs and none of them roll in park. the first time i was standing at the rear of the car to get something out of the rear and the car hit me and made me lose my balance. i have been pushed by the passenger door several times when i get out first after my wife has put the transmission in park but before she takes her foot off the brake. i now try to remember to step away from the car as soon as i exit. in the next step it says when did this happen. i am going to use today's date because it happens every day. it has been going on for at least a year maybe loner. it has been long enough that i can no-longer remember the first incident.
When taking off from a complete stop - after car is warmed up - at a low speed, car is unable to shift from 1st and when it finally does it shifts so hard, jarring the car, that it feels like another vehicle has hit us from behind. usually happens at speeds between 10-20 mph. happens a few times a week but i cannot recreate it on demand - which is what the service dept would like. i have 9000 miles on my van and has been happening intermittently since i purchased it.
I am clearly having a shifting gear issues. i am getting a major kick in the shifting during low speed, it happens between 15 and 18 mph. the problem is very random. this condition my only happen once a month or it could be several times in a row. i have taken the car in several times. they did a software transmission update. this did not fix the issue. i took it in again on april 3, 2019 and the service department could not replicate the issue. i also drive the car the next day with the dealer's service rep. it did have a slight loose of power between 1st and 2nd gear but we could not get to repeat the hard jerking condition that i was complaining about. the dealer check with chrysler and was told that they are aware of the problem but do not have a repair solution at this time. thanks chrysler!
Since the summer of 2018 when my car reached around 15,000 miles, it began hesitating, losing power, being unable to accelerate, and shifting very hard intermittently. it slams into gear so hard at times it feels like the car has been hit from behind. the problem happens most often when turning out into traffic from a complete stop, or when slowing down as approaching a turn and then accelerating after the turn. the transmission was supposedly replaced, and then a month later it happened again, worse than before. the hard shifting also sometimes happened while accelerating to come up to speed while driving on the thruway. the car has also begun revving erratically. most recently, the rpms shot up to 5000 and stayed there while driving through town at less than 30 mph. most recently the car was in the shop from 4/1-4/25 and from 5/24 to present.
Transmission shifting issue. vehicle was at a complete stop. when acceleration from stop and making a right turn , the vehicle acted like it slipped out of gear and back into gear. this caused a violent motion in the car. this is a repeated issue with this van. we feel that this could lead to a bigger issues that could cause injury from an accident.
Transmission shifting issues. after coming to a complete stop, i accelerated and at 36 mph the transmission acted like it dropped out and back into gear making a noise. this continued issue has caused an erosion in our trust in the van to safely provide transportation for our family.
Vehicle was at a complete stop. turned right onto highway 122 and at 17 mph the vehicle hesitated and violently shifted hard into gear. we feel the safety of the vehicle has been compromised because of the unpredictability of shifting
Transmission shifting issues. vehicle was at a complete stop. was accelerating from a stop and acted like it dropped out of gear and slammed back into gear violently. this has caused us to loose confidence and have safety concerns about our van.
While in continuous acceleration, 13mph the transmission struggled to shift between 1st and 2nd gears. eventually, the car thrust forward and shifted forward. same thing happens when reducing speed. it happens every day and every time i accelerate
I am clearly having transmission issues. at 45,000 miles, i have taken the van in twice so far and no solution is successful. first service was to address the transmission recall which was merely a software modification. this did not fix the issue. i took it in again and the service department could not replicate the issue. i am getting a major kick in the shifting during low speed movement. it happens around 15 mph when acceleration holds steady. it is a violent kick as if another vehicle has hit the rear of our van. this is not ok, nor does it seem healthy for the state of the rest of the moving parts associated. the other issue is within the front suspension. over even the smallest of bump or uneven road surface, it feels as if something is loose. i had it into the shop to check the struts, joints, etc, and they are ok, but something is not right and i begin to wonder if this vehicle is safe for my wife to drive my family around town in.
While in continuous acceleration, 13mph the transmission struggled to shift between 1st and 2nd gears. eventually, the car thrust forward and shifted forward. same thing happens when reducing speed. it happens every day and every time i accelerate.
I was at a complete stop with our van, and accelerated away from a stop sign. when the van reached about 36 mph, the van acted like it was going to shift and it dropped out of gear and back into gear making a clunking noise
I was at a complete stop with our van, and accelerated away from a stop sign. when the van reached about 37 mph, the van acted like it was going to shift and it dropped out of gear and back into gear making a clunking noise
When accelerating from a stop or from a very slow speed (around 0-5 mph approximately), the transmission will jerk very hard - almost feels like you have been hit in the rear and then when you apply the accelerator, the van will not move for a few seconds, like it isn't getting fuel or something. then after a few seconds, it will just take off like normal. this has happened 3 times in one week. it is very dangerous as it could happen when you're in the middle of an intersection.
I purchased my vehicle yesterday evening (3/09/19) and left the dealership to go grab dinner about 1/2 mile away. while sitting and waiting on our food my car lost all power then turned right back on by itself. unfortunately the dealership was already closed as we had been there 30-45 min after thier closing time and everyone left at the same time we did so i could not go back immediately. we drove the van home (1hr away) then this morning on our way to church i had 3 more of these incidents. it happened once while stopped and 2 more times while driving at 20-40 mph. we now have a service light (a!) coming on and it says stop/start unavailable.
For a year now our transmission slips when going into first gear. the van will come to a complete stop and then continue moving which results in a hard jerk. it was so bad on a trip that the check engine light came on and we could not get the van out of first gear. we were even trying to drive over the ohio river at the time! we took the van to the dealership. the dealership reset the van but the issues still occurred. we were informed by the dealer that chyrsler will not fix the issues until our check engine light comes on again. we continue to have the jerking issues and the transmission continues to slip. now the van wants to excel at times. we are completely frustrated with our van!! i am the primary driver and have an extremely bad back! the jerking is causing issues with my back. we would never recommend a chrysler pacifica. i can't believe chrysler willing to put us in danger!!
Our pacifica roughly jolts forward when accelerating to about 15mph just after being stopped. it feels like being hit hard from behind. it has been an ongoing issue for over 9 months now. i have young children in the car and it is very scary.
The pacifiaca will stall on you iin the middle of traffic while your driving it which can cause a seriously bad accident. and when it do this then it take off which can cause you to hurt someone as well. very unsafe i've taken it in do the dealership where i purchase it they said it was recall this the 4x i taken it in for the same thing. now the rear doors from time to time will open. as of today i only have can use one rear door the other door do ot open at all. i'm terrify of drivng this van. i've have spoken too several other owners who's also going throught the same thing will someone please look into the pacficia more closely thisnis a death trap.
The van will sporadically not respond to acceleration between 15-20 mph and will suddenly jerk rather vigorously. it feels very unsafe especially when rear traffic is fast approaching. i have read countless complaints of this same exact issue with this van in various different forums and websites. owners contacting chrysler and dealerships with no positive outcome. we justly need an investigation.
Vehicle was at a complete stop. accelerated vehicle from a stop while making a right hand turn onto a highway. vehicle acted like it slipped out of gear and violently went back into gear. this happened at 12 mph
Accelerating in the vehicle to highway speeds when the van acted like is slipped out of gear and went back into gear hard at 36 mph
The transmission is shifting into gears incredibly hard. sometimes it makes a "bang"/"thunk" and when this occurs, it lurches the whole car forwards. it happens intermittently when the van is going from park to reverse, it happens quite often when i am accelerating at speed under 30 mph and frequently happens when speed is down shifting from speed under 30 mph. it also has occurred a few times at speed over 40 mph.
Vehicle was at a complete stop at a stop sign, took a right turn and the vehicle acted like it slipped out of gear, then shifted hard back into gear. this occurred at approximately 13 mph.
Our 2017 chrysler pacifica has been jerking into gear and won't accelerate and then after a few moments, it does. the jerking feels as if someone just hit you from behind and you stall before being able to accelerate. this always happened while in motion flat road, incline, or down hill. when we called the dealership and took it in and informed them of the issue, they said they didn't see a problem. now, we have an unknown message that says "service shifter". this came after the van was sitting and we got in to start the vehicle. it wouldn't start. had to wait for a tow. the power windows, doors, hatch won't work but the radio and communications systems work fine.
Tl* the contact own a 2017 chrysler pacifica. while driving 14-18 mph, when either accelerating or decelerating, the vehicle experienced a hard shift. there were no warning indicators or signals illuminated in the vehicle. the contact took the vehicle to southfield chrysler dodge jeep ram (28100 telegraph rd, southfield, mi 48034, 248-331-9937) where it was diagnosed that the vehicle needed an update and there were no failures with the brakes or shifter. the approximate failure mileage was 27,000.

The van jerks and and stalls when shifting gears (especially on low gears). it then suddenly surges.
We have owned this vehicle for 2 months, on two occasions we have had the transmission appear to get stuck in a low gear after starting from stop in city traffic, the rpm's go up, engine revs, cars will not accelerate, then goes into gear and drives. both times we had pulled out into traffic and could not accelerate. on another occasion while going through an intersection around 10-15 miles per hour the vehicle jerked into gear again, wouldn't accelerate, after release the accelerator the vehicle jerked again and then drove normally. this has also happened 4 times while driving through parking lots. it feels as though you have been hit or hit something. no codes came up and dealer can't duplicate the issue.
There was a recall due to this vehicle hard shifting. i have had this fixed three times and it is hard shifting again. the vehicle lurches forward and sometimes it feels like it will stall out completely. it occurs when accelerating, especially after stopping. it is worse when shifting from the lower gears when the vehicle just begins to accelerate, however it also occurs while slowing down to turn. the electrical system that monitors the temperature gauge is not working properly. it often shows to be in the negative degrees. this causes the check engine light to come on. this has also been fixed by my dealership but it has continued to occur.
Transmission shifting issue. vehicle was at a complete stop. when acceleration from stop and making a right turn , the vehicle acted like it slipped out of gear and back into gear. this caused a violent motion in the car. this is a repeated issue with this van. at times when i step on the gas to accelerate the transmission does not always engage properly and it slips causing a delay in taking off. i have had it back to the dealer for all upgrades or reprograms for this problem and yet the problem still persists
I was at a complete stop at a stop sign on a frontage road waiting to turn right onto highway 122 in mason city iowa. i then accelerated and turned right. as the van reached 17 mph, the van acted like the transmission slipped into neutral for a period of approximately five seconds, and then violently slammed back into gear. during this timeframe, another vehicle approached rapidly from behind and almost collided with the rear of our van. our van had also had this same occurrence at 36 mph. our local chrysler dealer and chrysler customer service has been notified of this issue several times and we were told it was normal operations
Vehicle is slamming into gear generally in 2nd or 3rd gear.. we have contacted chrysler corporate as well as the dealer multiple times however we are told they cannot replicate. the problem continues to worsen
Hard shift while driving at around 15 mph. it feels like hitting by another car from back. it occurs every time i speed up slowly around 15 mph. took it to dealer and dealer told me it was because it is 9 speed transmission and the shift range is narrow, and they can do nothing about it. very disappointing. and not sure if it will damage transmission.
My issues started when my auto start/stop stopped working. i took it in to the dealership and they said the accessory battery was dead and they didn't have a replacement in. that it was in backorder. then my main battery went dead. i had to have my vehicle towed to the dealership. they replaced my main battery and again they made mentioned that the auto start/stop didn't work. i said i know the accessory battery is dead and that it was on backorder. i was told to bring the van back in the following week and they would test the accessory battery again and replace it if was bad. took the van back. they said it wasn't the battery that something was wrong electrical because too many volts was being outputted. at this time i made mention of the power steering issue. i got a warning light saying it wasn't working. was told nothing showed up on the computer about the power steering. took van back in for the electrical system to be evaluated. my husband drove the van and on the way to the dealership tje power steering system cut off and then in mid turn cut back on almost causing him to hit another vehicle head on. told dealership of the problem and also the jerking issues when shifting into lower gears. dealership actually figured out it was the accessory battery that was dead so they replaced it. then while they had it they had issues with the power steering cutting on/off. so they said it was the rack & pinion. they couldn't duplicate the issues with the van jerking into lower gears. well here we are a month later and my power steering is still cutting off/on while driving causing near car accidents. the van still jerks sometime when trying to get into lower gears. called chrysler consumer number and they said they would get back with me. the power steering issues is a major safety hazard, can't get van into the dealership till next week because they are behind.
Vehicle has gotten the update to start. while driving the vehicle had a hard shift or jerk as if gotten hit from behind while going about 25 on a side street after turning onto started to pick up speed. this has happened a couple times. no warning lights have come on.
This is my second, possibly third time reporting a significant problem with this van. i have lost power while trying to accelerate multiple times. today i lost power while accelerating, the vehicle revved and rpm went up to about 6000, no power was going to the engine and i was unable to accelerate, then full power went to engine and the van lunged forward and gained speed. the acc cruise control light also went on. i did not lose power steering and i am not sure if the engine turned off. due to so many problems occurring while driving, i frequently record my drives- i was able to capture this on video. the video only shows my dash and does not do it justice, but shows the rpm, vehicle speed slowing, and then accelerating. i have a few more videos with similar problems, but this is one of the few that i was able to capture. my children are afraid of riding in this car, we have has issue after issue and simply want to be safe while driving.
Started to pull onto williard norris road in milton florida, when i depressed foot pedal to accelerate nothing happened for 2-4 seconds and transmission kicked in to gear violently @ 14 mph, and again at 32 mph. log truck was behind me when it occurred. contacted dealer and took for repair .could not find issues on computer systems. has happened for past 6 months, but today was life endangering and i don't feel safe operating vehicle
While driving van experiences a hard shift into 2nd gear. this causes a lose of power and the a jerk. i have almost gotten hit from behind. this can happen on the road, parking lot and getting on interstate. van has been iat dealer for about a month, just returned to me. chrysler is saying this is a normal condition. completely not safe to drive to me or my family. this has been into the dealer several times for same problem since march. on my way home from dealer it happened two more times.
