We have classified the 234 complaints from 2017 Chrysler Pacifica about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
Third post of same complaint. coming from turns or when shifting in low speed, the vehicle randomly stalls upon acceleration then slams into gear, causing the entire vehicle to jolt. have taken van to original purchasing dealership multiple times (10+) in the past year and a half, and have been told that they cannot find a problem. this category has the most complaints on the nhtsa website all of very similar issue ' something must be done from chrysler.
We have had multiple issues with our 2017 chrysler pacifica. the first issue is when we accelerate between 10 and 20 mph our vehicle revs up and jerks really bad. literally feels like you have been rear ended. it is like the gear is slipping or it can't find the next year to go into. another issue we are having is with the drivers side sliding door. i usually have to try to shut it multiple times for it to stay shut. on multiple occasions i have had to hit the button 3-4 times for it to stop popping back open. the last issue is our start/stop feature. it has completely stopped working and it shows a code on the dash. these are all issues we have been dealing with for months.
When accelerating the van jerks then picks up more speed. sometimes when pressing the gas pedal from park it takes a while to start moving. the shifter gets suck and the doesnt get off the emergency brake.
Vehicle shut off on my 7 times already 2 on highway and 5 on streets. 2 on highway was driving around 65 mph when dash went off all lights went off no power steering or hazard light function. had to pull over to median at a complete stop. the others were variant from coming to a stop all the lights shut off the gauge needles went crazy. and the others were driving at lower speeds. the worse is trying to muscle onto a parking lot or median with no power steering or lights
The transmission slips out of gear between 1st and second gear momentarily before slamming back into 2nd gear. this is an ongoing issue. we have taken the vehicle into dealership multiple times and each time have been told that they can not recreate the problem or that the transmission is fine. the momentary loss of momentum is incredibly dangerous when turning into active traffic lanes. a cursory search of the internet will show that this problem is rampant and that chrysler continues to fail to address the issue.
Hard shifting - going from 2nd to 3rd gear the van feels like it wants stall out and then all of a sudden a hard jerk(feels like you were hit from behind) then a loud knock and it drops into gear and takes off. most often happens when in stop and go traffic. sometime happens when just taking off from a red light. i have brought the van into the dealership over 8 times in the past 12 months, we have been able to duplicate the problem with the mechanic and chrysler care first tells me it is the adaptive transmission control trying to adapt to my driving habit so its the way i drive, then they tell me that is the way the van was designed to operate since we able to duplicate the problem in the same van but a brand new model that was on the lot. then they tell me there is nothing else they can do.
First the drivers side front strut is making noise already has been to dealer for it still doing same thing. hatch doesn't open all the time, passenger sliding door making noise both issues taking to dealer still not right and making noise, drivers side sliding door just closed. while driving car car will just not go at all dealer did software on it and it's still doing same thing. dealer had my car for well over a week for it to be doing the same thing have another appointment monday 12/10/18 . i hate this car wish i kept my other one.
Tl* the contact owns a 2017 chrysler pacifica. on several occasions, while driving 55-65 mph, the vehicle jerked and vibrated abnormally. the vehicle was taken to white plains chrysler jeep dodge (located at 70 westchester ave, white plains, ny 10601, (914) 618-4521) to be diagnosed, but the mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure or retrieve a fault code. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 16,000.
The van shifts very hard and jerks forward when accelerating from a stop at either a stop sign or red light. the hard shift and jerking forward has almost caused me to rear end the vehicle in front a couple of times now.
Driving at 70 mph, my pacifica just shut off. had no control, had nothing. managed to pull over to the side of the road. when called into the beaver county chrysler dealership i was told, "we just sell them, we don't make them." his vehicle has been one issue after another. the sliding doors not closing, the dvd player not working, the radio not working, the sliding door on driver's side still not working and they had to completely replace the gas tank because i couldn't even put gas in the tank it would shut off and wouldn't let gas get into the tank. now this. we were scared for our lives and then told, "we just sell them we don't build them." this is not a safe vehicle. ...*bf *tr *tt consumer stated problem was solved. updated 12/19/18*jb
When driving the vehicle and turning a corner from a low speed (<20mph) or accelerating around a corner from a stop, the vehicle has lost power and the engine just revs as if in neutral. the vehicle has to be placed into parked and restarted to begin driving again. this has happened approximately 4 times in the last year and a half with less than 24,000 miles on the vehicle. the vehicle also jerks when accelerating at times, usually around 15 mph. sometimes it jerks like it has been hit in the rear. we've taken it in multiple times to the shop and they have replaced a valve body related to the transmission, but continue to still have issues.
Transmission hesitates and then when it catches, it's jerks forward. almost always from a stop. but it has happened at a low speed roll too. happens often, so i put the last date it happened below. ..*bf. *dt *tr *jb *dt *jb
The main problem is, my car does not start, the battery is dead and if i jumpstart their car it dies as soon as i shut the ignition, i spoke with a few people with the same car and they all have the same problem i called chrysler roadside assistance that's on the warranty and they save that no chrysler dealers will accept my car before two weeks, the first time it broke down i was in the middle of driving on a busy street, i dropped off my wife and helped her unload onload and then the car did does not start some of my friends told me their car stopped in the middle of driving also my transmission jumps gears in the middle of driving it?s a new car with a warranty but no one to talk to ..*bf. *tr
The vehicle was in motion on a city street just driving straight. the engine shut off while driving. the display indicated to put the car in park to start the vehicle. the power steering shuts off. i was not going fast at the time and was able to stop, put it in park, press the brake, start the vehicle, and put it into drive. however, i was in traffic and almost was rear ended by another vehicle who was fortunately able to stop in time. this issue affects the brakes, engine, steering, power train and all around safety. i was lucky that i was driving and that my kids were not in the car. i was going to pick them up.
Tl* the contact owns a 2017 chrysler pacifica. while driving 30 mph, the vehicle stalled and the "shift to park check engine" warning indicator illuminated. the contact also mentioned that the vehicle lost complete power and the clock needed to be reset. the contact also mentioned that the failure recurred while at a stop light. the vehicle was able to restart. the vehicle was taken to hall chrysler dodge jeep ram chesapeake (3353 western branch blvd, chesapeake, va 23321, (855) 544-8545) where the contact was informed that the system needed to be updated. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken to a local auto shop where the contact was informed that the wiring harness was burnt, but it was not determined if that caused the failure. the vehicle was repaired again. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 44,000. *tt updated 11/29/18* jb
The van will hesitate with the foot pushing the gas in between 10-20mph and all of the sudden will jump forward with a loud clunking sound when going to the next gear. it feels like you get rear ended. this happens at random. the dealer said they have never heard of this issue and did a software update and sent us on our way. within a few hours after leaving the dealer, the van issue occurred again. i found the below link forum for pacifica owners and it sounds like a lot of people are having this issue. this seemed to have started back in july 2018 after i had several recall software updates put in place. i would just like some help getting this resolved and make others aware of the issue for safety reasons. my fear is that my wife will make a turn in traffic and the van hesitate and her get t-boned.
Transmission shifting issue. vehicle was at a complete stop. when acceleration from stop and making a right turn , the vehicle acted like it slipped out of gear and back into gear. this caused a violent motion in the car.at times when i step on the gas to accelerate the transmission does not always engage properly and it slips causing a delay in taking off. i have had it back to the dealer for all upgrades or reprograms for this problem and yet the problem still persists.
Tl* the contact owns a 2017 chrysler pacifica. on several occasions, while the vehicle was being driven, the contact stated that it hard shifted between gears. the contact stated that the hard shift felt as if the vehicle had been rear ended. the contact stated that the vehicle also stalled in the middle of an intersection and then lunged forward on several occasions. the contact stated that the failures were intermittent. northgate chrysler dodge jeep ram (located at 8536 colerain ave, cincinnati, oh 45251, (513) 385-3900) was unable to retrieve a fault code or duplicate the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 3,000.
I have experienced repeated and worsening problems with my pacifica shifting very roughly and multiple speeds, to the point where the car jerks and acceleration stalls. i have taken the car in multiple times to the factory dealer and they said the computer is not capturing any error codes, and they can't replicate the issue. this car has had multiple issues starting the day i bought it, and i think the car is just a lemon...would never buy another chrysler product again! *dt updated 10/18/18*jb
In sept. 2018 i took my pacifica in for cruise control recall and check engine light. recall and check engine light repair completed. next day check engine light came on again and has been on and off for the past few weeks. it seems to stay on about 4 days and then off for a day or two. cruise control (in motion) goes out sporadically. power window- drivers window- auto up does not work. window(parked and moving) goes up half way, stops and goes back down. transmission-not consistent issue but lurching @ 10-15mph also at 30mph
Wife and children in the van in august 2017 driving at around 55mph on highway. message center told her to place vehicle in park before starting. vehicle lost all power while in motion and she coasted to side of road. would not start, towed to dealer dealer drove for 10 days before faulted on them. chrysler repaired a "faulty egr." august 2018, message told her that auto on/off needed service. vehicle lost all power at 30mph on residential street. took to dealer, they replace a battery for auto off/on. september 2018, while pulling into garage van put up message telling her to place vehicle in park before starting. all power lost and vehicle died. van has been at dealer for 29 days. currently has data recorder installed, and we are in contact with chrysler enhanced customer service to figure out the problem *dt updated 11/29/18*jb
The van seems to have trouble shifting from 1st to 2nd gear when going to a low speed, moving forward. it happens out of no where, doesn't matter on the weather, temperature. the van was in motion on a city street and a parking lot. it is my guess it's the transmission.
Rear door and side doors open up while driving. van stalls and sputters when taking off. when driving and turning the wheel to the right or left the steering wheel vibrates. it does not feel like the wheel is rubbing in the wheel well.
The 2017 chrysler pacifica touring plus with all the latest known software recalls up to date as of 8/22/2018 experienced a full stall while under wide open throttle and attempting to enter a highway on ramp. the stall seemed like a transmission lag, shifting delay or lack of response. the engine from 0-20 mph had plenty of power (rpm's); then when switching gears it seems the power was cut for a full 3-5 seconds while the transmission made a shift and only after letting off the accelerator (even though there were 0 rpms) did it finally kick into motion again and pull out of the stall. the systems auto stop was disabled via the override button on the dashboard when this occurred and the gas tank was 40% full.
Tl* the contact owns a 2017 chrysler pacifica. while driving approximately 35 mph, the vehicle shut off without warning. the vehicle was able to restart. the contact called and scheduled a diagnostic appointment with videon chrysler dodge jeep ram (4951 west chester pike, newtown square, pa 19073, 610-356-7000). the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 3,000. *tt
We purchased the vehicle in sept 2017. about a month after we purchase the brand new van, we started having issue with the transmission slamming in to gear. the first time it happened, we literally thought the person behind us at rear ended up the jolt was that bad. upon pulling over and inspecting, we discovered we werent. over the last 23 months, we have had nothing but issues with the transmission. it shifts so at times it makes you dizzy. this takes place between 10-17 mph. in august 2018, our family was on our way to a fun day when at 10mph the van slammed so hard all 5 of us in the van felt our necks crack and we got dizzy instantly. needless to say, we had to pull over because i couldnt see straight to drive and my elderly mother hurt for 3 days. i told her to go to the er for proof that the van is hurting the people driving it. we have called the dealership on several occasions and they wont do anything. telling us they can reprogram the transmission. give it time, the tranny needs to adjust how we drive never fixes the issue at all. we have an almost 2 year old toddler and we are petrified to turn her to forward facing in fear if the transmission slams, it would break her neck. yes, the van had 32,000 miles or so on it but its our primary vehicle. we cant sit home and twiddle our thumbs. so, yes unfortunately we have to still drive this van, even if it kills us.
Tl* the contact owns a 2017 chrysler pacifica. while driving between 25-50 mph with the cruise control activated and traveling up an incline, the revolutions per minute increased extremely high. additionally, the gears failed to shift and suddenly downshifted. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the local dealer (brighton chrysler dodge jeep ram, 9827 e grand river ave., brighton, mi 48116, (810) 229-4100) where the vehicle was awaiting to be diagnosed and repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided case number: [xxx]. the failure mileage was 18,000. *tt information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tt
After pulling into a parking space or the driveway and stopping, when you use the rotary shifter to shift to park, the knob stops in reverse, and when you take your foot off the brake, you will reverse unexpectedly. i have not hit anything or anyone yet, but i have had a couple close calls in parking lots missing a passing car and pedestrian, due to the unintended reversing. this happens at random times with no apparent rhyme or reason. additionally, the transmission has shifting problems when accelerating from a stop. around 20mph, with light foot feed, the shift is delayed, so it doesnt shift into the next gear quickly, and you slow down unexpectedly until it finds the next gear, or slams back and forth between gears and you cannot accelerate anymore because it is slamming back and forth between the gears. ive had to pull over before because i wasnt accelerating in traffic, and didntt want to get hit. putting it in park for a few seconds, then starting again, and mashing the foot feed so im accelerating hard is the only way to recover from this event, and get past the 20mph mark without having shifting issues. like the shifter stopping in reverse, this happens at random times, but is more easily reproduced, although not consistently.
Tl* the contact owns a 2017 chrysler pacifica. while accelerating from a stop, the vehicle jerked. on some occasions, the vehicle would shut off in the middle of traffic and restart. in addition, the "auto stop" indicator was illuminated. the vehicle was towed to fox hills chrysler jeep (734-892-2220, located at 111 ann arbor rd, plymouth, mi 48170) where it was diagnosed that the battery needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to nhtsa. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 21,500.
My car stalls and jerks when i'm going around 16 mph. losses power. it clunks and shifts hard like you're being hit from behind. my car has had one transmission replacement a few months back. today the car has been in the shop for over 30 days with its second transmission issue. chrysler can"t seem to fix the issue. it's a very scary feeling to loss power in the middle of the highway or anywhere. please help. my slidding doors had an issue that they will open and close automatically even if i was driving. very scary. so many more issues. the issues started maybe a month and a half after purchasing the vehicle.
While accelerating at low speeds (15-20mph), vehicle will shift very hard, making it feel like i've been rear-ended, and causing the vehicle to lurch forward. immediately afterward, i cannot accelerate. it feels like the transmission is out of gear, or is trying to find the correct gear. then, suddenly, it will pop into gear and return to normal. this has happened possibly 75 to 100 times. the vehicle has almost 50,000 (fifty-thousand) miles on the odometer. my concern is that the vehicle will lurch forward into a car in front of me, or that i will be attempting to accelerate to match traffic speed, and will be unable to do so.
Transmission has intermittent issues shifting from 1st to 2nd gear at approx 15-20 mph. will either shift so hard it in essence slams into gear making you feel as though you were rear-ended, or will hesitate while it searches for a gear, refusing to accelerate despite gas pedal being pushed to the floor. this has happened to us on several occasions, everywhere from a parking lot to a busy highway with oncoming traffic, both while making turns and traveling straight ahead. on our 3rd visit to the dealer for this same complaint, we were told this is normal. it is not normal for a car to essentially leave you sitting on a busy highway while it searches for a gear. the chrysler forums are replete with complaints about this same issue, but chrysler has not yet addressed it. this appears to be separate from the stall recall that was previously issued by chrysler as we have had this done to our van (as have others) and it has not improved.
When accelerating (in motion) the vehicle randomly stalls or hesitates with an abrupt jolt and loud thudding sound. feels and sounds as if vehicle is being hit in the rear by another vehicle. dealer has been unable to rectify or diagnose any "problem." problem occurs almost daily in a random manner.
Power train intermittently shifts hard at low speeds (under about 20 mph) in stop and go type traffic causing the vehicle to unexpectedly lunge forward. it is believed this will eventually lead to a vehicle accident. the local fica dealer (pomoco nn) is unable to resolve. vehicle is still under mfgr warranty.
Tl* the contact owns a 2017 chrysler pacifica. while driving 20 mph, the vehicle jerked hard when changing gears. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to shaver chrysler dodge jeep ram and fiat (3888 thousand oaks blvd, thousand oaks, ca 91362, (805) 496-7103) and test driven, but a failure could not be diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 25,432.
I have recently been notified of a recall number u64. there is another one, u50, which is pending and i have not been notified yet. additionally, i have experienced while driving that the chrysler pacifica jerks when i am driving approximately 35 mph and or highway speed. i am concern that this chrysler pacifica 2017 is starting having problems in such an early stage.
Second time happening. suddenly quit running again at 40 mph while going up small hill on july 2nd around 2 pm on trip back from market. had driven about 5 miles total. also, this time parking brake would not release. this vehicle is a highway hazard. supposedly the problem was fixed on june 23rd by reprograming the transmission control module. waiting for dealer to explain what they are going to do this time....
Vehicle suddenly stopped in city traffic and was unable to move. pulled parking disconnect and was able to drive 6 miles to dealer, vehicle has 14,150 miles at time with no prior problems. dealer was able to "fix" by reprograming tcm (error code p0975) this could have deadly on an interstate. this type of sudden stall needs to be corrected as i have read others reporting same situation.
When ever driving down hill the brakes makes a loud noise (skipping thud sound) it feels and sounds like as the whole front suspension or brakes about to fall off the van. the other problem when turning the car at even at low speed when the road is wet the van suspension would make noise and tire wont grip. happens many time pulling out from my drive way when its lightly wet.
Over a year ago our pacifica began hard shifting from a dead stop and in lower speeds. sometimes it is so bad we feel we got rear ended. it is very sporadic and difficult to duplicate. it is becoming very unsafe. my fear is the hard shifting and the car stopping will cause an accident. dealer says they can't duplicate the problem so they can't fix it. it seems there should be a recall. i have seen at 30 complaints on one web site complaining of the exact same issue.
Tl* the contact owns a 2017 chrysler pacifica. while operating the vehicle, the transmission malfunctioned when switching between first and second gears. the failure caused the vehicle to forcefully accelerate. the vehicle was taken to videon chrysler (4951 west chester pike, newtown square, pa) where it was diagnosed that the transmission valve body needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 5,000.
My 2017 chrysler pacifica has over 22,000 miles on it. about a month ago, i started experiencing hard shifts, jerks, mini-stalls when accelerating. it has happened while coasting in traffic, accelerating from red lights, stop signs, and merging into traffic! i believe its 2-3 gear shift. i feel the rpms drop down to nothing and spike. it feels like being hit from behind and getting whiplash. its very powerful and frightening. having two kids in carseats when his happens is scary! the dealership hasn't been able to reproduce to problem (even on a drive along) and they say they can't do anything about it until a check engine lights comes on. warranty is up in 14,000 miles - this needs to be fixed by then. latest occurrence was this morning accelerating from a stop.
Tl* the contact owns a 2017 chrysler pacifica. on several occasions, while driving various speeds, the vehicle experienced hard shifting from first to second gear. additionally, on several occasions, the vehicle stalled while being driven various speeds. the contact was able to restart the vehicle after several attempts. the vehicle was taken to vance chrysler dodge jeep ram (3606 ok-10, miami, ok 74354, (918) 542-4424) to be diagnosed, but the mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 18v049000 (electrical system, engine and engine cooling). the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 43,000.
2017 pacifica limited, mileage 3573. coming to full stop at stoplight, engine suddenly reved up and car attempted to accelerate forward on its own. had to keep foot hard on to brake to prevent forward movement into intersection. incident lasted at least 20 seconds before car returned to normal stop.
In january 2018, took the van in because of jerking motion shifting out of gears. would go from first gear, skip second gear and then jerk hard into third gear, almost feeling like the van was going to stall. chrysler dealership stated that chrysler doesn't know how to fix the problem but doing an engine stall reset with the computer system in the car may fix it. that worked for about 2 weeks and the jerking motion started to happen again. most times it was at speeds between 15-20 mph, but then it started to happen at speeds like at 40mph. then yesterday, while driving on the highway, there was stop and go traffic, and as i was trying to accelerate, the car jerked so hard twice, i thought i was rear ended. the check engine light came on, and the car began to accelerate on its own. i tried to brake and at first was unable to. finally the car slowed down, but the rpm's were reving at 4 while i was only going 25mph and then stalled. the car would not shift out of first gear, and would not go any faster than 25mph. i was able to get off the highway before being involved in a crash as it was rush hour traffic on the one of the most busiest highways in miami. so now my car is at the dealer and they are telling me that they are going to try to replace the valve body of the transmission, and if that still gives them problems, they will have to replace the whole transmission. this van is a year old!!! the service advisor said that they are just doing what chrylser is telling them to do to try and fix this problem. very sad chrysler. this is a huge safety issue and telling consumers that they don't know how to fix a problem that could be life threatening or they are going to "try" to fix it is unacceptable. many of us that own vans have small children that are in them everyday and this is what we have to deal with. at this point, i want new manufacturer van.
As i was merging into interstate 15 northbound during traffic, the vehicle jerked twice, it almost felt as if i had been rear ended from such a hard jerk. finally the vehicle released the gear and i was able to drive up to normal speed
Exited interstate 215 and made a left turn, traffic was a bit backed up so we slowed down to almost a standstill, when the speed picked up i started accelerating and felt a huge thump as if i had been rear ended, then the vehicle shifted and drove normal thereafter.
While idling at a light and pressing pedal to go. my 2017 chrysler pacifica failed. lights started. flashing in dust cycling through check abs, check tire pressure, etc... car was in drive and was rolling backwards with breaks and steering not working. this resulted in an accident rolling into the vechical behind us. the nice individual the we crashed into was able to catch the failure on his dash cam. we have brought in the van on other occasions to have it looked at for transmission wanting to launch forward when going from idle. they still can not figure it out and told use no record in service reports with other having any problems. after a 10 second search we found others have had similar problems with same make and model. these. can be found on consumers reports. with. out a guarantee the breaks and steering will not go out again i do not want the car back. i. just. want my money back. the sell this thing as a safe family vehicle, but loosing breaks and steering is not what i want my family in. they still can not figure out way it happens.
From a dead stop, turning left the vehicle accelerated and got "stuck" in gear, the engine was revving but the transmission would not engage the next gear, once i set my foot off the gas pedal and reapplied it, the transmission allowed the gear to shift in, and the vehicle slowly moved up to speed, but still with a slight jerk.
Traveling down the interstate, a vehicle was traveling slower, so i slowed down until it was clear to merge lanes to pass, once i switched lanes and depressed the gas pedal, the transmission jerked and wouldn't shift making the car slow down, once i let go of the gas, it did a rough shift and i was able to accelerate again
