My aunt bought brand new 2007 camry and transfer to me 2-2018. notice that engine sound not right. have to check oil every week. engine burning oil a lot, have to put 1 quart every 1200 miles, only 67500 miles and now starting to hear knocking noise. call toyota and they said warranty expire. repair at owner cost.

My vehicle does not burn enough oil. i have zero oil consumption issues. toyota is a great company. employees should get a raise today.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry. while driving uphill with the cruise control engaged at approximately 60 mph, the cruise control failed to disengage when the brake pedal was depressed. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who determined that the transmission failed and needed replacement. the vehicle was repaired. the dealer was not contacted. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and case number: 1803150976 was opened. the approximate failure mileage was 136,000. *tt consumer stated the cruise control requested power, electronic failure between cruise, engine and transmission, causing engine rpm to accelerate with no power from transmission. i hit brake pedal to keep engine from being damaged. few seconds later transmission thumped/clunked. transmission damaged from that point. i drove car without cruise control till new transmission was installed. updated 10/15/18*jb

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry. while exiting the vehicle with the gear in park, the vehicle moved and drove over the occupant's legs. the contact sustained two broken ankles, cuts, and bruises, which required medical attention. a police report was filed. the local dealer was not contacted. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified and did not assist. the failure mileage was 60,000.

I was driving into my garage and had just brake to let it ease in. my foot was still on the brake, when the car suddenly revved and lunged forward. the brake would not work, and it was as if the car had a mind of its own. it hit the crate that was in front of the wall, and forced a bike rack through the wall. the front bumper of my car was cracked in places. the car then stopped. so scary! i immediately called my dealership and was told they could not talk to me. i needed to call the corporation, which i did. after two months of waiting on a decision, i was told there is nothing wrong with my car, and that's that. i have since learned that there have been other incidents with toyotas just like mine. i am petrified to drive the car, and yet i am also afraid to pass it on to someone else. i don't want anyone hurt. i have called toyota, and they do not return my calls i am wondering what i can do. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry. while the vehicle was parked, the contact was able to place the gear shifter in reverse without the keys being in the ignition. the vehicle coasted backwards and crashed into another vehicle. the air bags did not deploy. a police report was filed and there were no injuries. the vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 129,000.

The flexplate shredded from the mounting to the engine and torque converter clutch. the problem was noticed while it was at the toyota service garage. it all fell apart as they were dismantling it. this would have caused a serious accident if i was driving down the highway causing the power train to seize up and discharge flying metal.

There are several issues. first sticky dash board .. was told i'm being put on a waiting list for part. it's been months still no word. 2nd oil consumption is ridiculous. . oil runs out way before it's time for oil change every time .. no oil leaks anywhere .. car just burns oil super fast never experienced this with any car i've owned ..3rd the car vibrates when in you hit around 40 mph at 1.5 rpm doesnt do it as much when car doesnt go in overdrive in 4th gear .. was told this may be a computer programing issue .. 4th my driver side back seat mat is melted to the floor. i was told something under the car may be getting to hot. never got any real answers to my concerns .

While driving rpm is fluctuating causing the vehicle to feel like it is down shifting when not decelerating. this makes it feel like it is causing unnecessary strain on the transmission......updated 12/08/15 *bf

While the vehicle is in motion it hesitates to switch gears from 2nd to 3rd gear. as you accelerate. at times there is a jerk as it is doing so. this causes me to either slow down or speed up until it goes into gear.

The transmission was replaced by an authorized dealership 3 years ago and it only had 42,000 miles. the automatic transmission did not shift properly and would jerk suddenly as it shifted in lower gears. recently i was hearing noise from the front driver's side where the transmission is located. brought it to the toyota dealership that originally replaced the transmission. they said that it was the water pump and that nothing was wrong with the transmission. the diagnosis didn't seem right to me and suspected maybe the dealer didn't want to admit that the transmission they had replaced was having problems again. i took it to another toyota dealership for a second opinion. they told me the same thing. keep in mind that the car has never leaked fluid and has never overheated which are symptoms of water pump problems. i decided to have them change the water pump since two separate toyota dealerships were telling me this was the problem and would take care of the noise. drove the car home and the grinding noise was still there. i decided to give it some time and maybe the noise would go away eventually. two days after getting the car worked on the noise got louder. i decided to take the car back to have the dealer check it again. on my way there, the transmission started to slip gears. it got a point where the car could barely drive 20 miles/hr. my transmission went completely out at a busy intersection. the transmission is broken. what really frustrates me is that i have only put 23,000 miles on the second transmission and now it is going to need a 3rd transmission. my safety has been at risk and the car never gave me a check engine warning. keep in mind i took my camry to 2 separate toyota dealerships and they gave me the run around with a diagnosis of a part that was no where near where i was hearing the noise was coming from. toyota needs to recall their 6 speed trans

I was driving home from work, and as i was coming to a stop i heard a warning ding, looked down, and my dashboard read "low engine oil pressure." i found that warning odd considering i have only put 2,000 miles on my car since my last oil change, i have not noticed any oil leaks in my parking spot or under my car, and i had my transmission serviced four weeks ago and there was no mention of any leaks by the service technician. i pull into the walmart parking lot close by, check my oil, and oil levels are not registering on my dipstick. i quickly bought 2 quarts of the manufacturers recommended weight of oil, put them in, and went directly to my service station. the service station took me in immediately, completed their inspection, and they informed me that they cannot find any leaks anywhere. in addition, there are no bad smells, no smoke, no signs of oil burning, nothing. they recommended an oil change, which i did. the service station gave me a 50% discount on the service because it was only 2 months and 2,000 miles since i was last there for an oil change. the mechanic suggested that i keep a case of oil in my trunk, check the oil level once a week, and add oil as needed. i think this is a lot of oil consumption, and a lot of work for such a young vehicle. my car is a 2007 toyota camry xle 4 cylinder with 79,004 miles as of 21 april 2015. *tr

Noticed my car had a knocking sound took it in to my mechanic to see what the problem was. i'm very particular about my car. the mechanic called to inform me the oil levels were extremely low, while he noticed it was close to needing an oil change but the levels shouldn't have been that low. his observation was my car is burning oil too fast. he called the dealership to question if there was an recall of such and the associate at the dealership mentioned a silent recall of this matter. he then informed me to take it in to the dealership, in which we did and was informed due to the powertrain warranty has expired i could pay $5000+ to rebuild my motor or get my oil changed ever 3000 miles instead of 5000 miles. this i thought was a problem cause when i purchased my new 2007 camryi was informed to change the oil every 5000 miles. it seems to be a manufacture defect cause i'm faithful about servicing my car and only take it to the dealership for oil changes and this should have been communicated to me a while ago. i'm hoping it doesn't cause any motor problems in the future. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry. while driving at various speeds, the vehicle decelerated and lost power. in addition, the contact stated that the vehicle started to jerk. the vehicle was taken to a dealer. the technician diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer multiple times. the technician was unable to diagnose or repair the vehicle. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 140,000.

I'm returning home from work and driving on a freeway with 60mph limit. i remember driving at 45mph and maintained a very good distance from the vehicle in front of me. the vehicle in front of me tried to slowed down and that prompted me to apply the brakes. all of a sudden brakes failed and couldn't control the car to stop. the car just skidded and hit the van with big force. luckily the vehicle in front of me is a shuttle and no passengers injured. engine and front part damaged very bad and i myself hit my face to the steering wheel. i cut my lip and hit on my nose very bad. i still recovering from injuries. though the crash is so bad, air bags didn't deploy and resulted injuries on me. the police and others who tried to help me wondered why the air bags didn't deploy. all these days i'm trying to recover from the injuries and couldn't send this complaint over. i got the website reference after checking with my insurance company. could you please help me on this? thank you in advance. *tr

2007 toyota camry. consumer writes in regards to right front axle and tires replaced on vehicle at low mileage. *smd

After exiting the highway onto a residential street, my car suddenly stopped moving in the middle of the street while the engine was still running. i received no warning lights indicating that there was anything wrong with the car! after the incident, i attempted to check the transmission fluid. however, there is no dipstick nor could i locate any information in the owner's manual. i had the car towed to a local mechanic because i was unable to get an appointment with a toyota dealership. the mechanic explained that the transmission fluid in a 2007 camry could only be checked by a mechanic. the results of his check were that there was no fluid in the transmission nor did he find any leaks. he put fluids in the car, but it continued to slip when he test drove it. i then had the car towed to the closet toyota dealership, lustine toyota. lustine also found no leaks in the transmission and could not understand why there were no fluids when it was originally checked by the mechanic. lustine informed me that i needed a new transmission. i contacted darcars 355 toyota who services my car for the recommended 5000 mile checks. i had an extended warranty with 355 that expired in may 2013. my car was last serviced by 355 in march 2013. there are approximately 3000 miles remaining before my next service is due. unfortunately, there is no proof that 355 did anything wrong, so they would not take any responsibility. 355 was not even willing to admit that there could have been human error in servicing my car. i contacted toyota's corporate office. after 4 days of my case sitting on the desk of a supervisor, i was extended a good will offer of $1500 towards my next new or $1000 towards my next used toyota purchase, but no assistance in the replacement of my transmission! my car remains in the shop. however, once the transmission is removed, lustine will check for possible defects. *tr

Popping noise in steering @ 50,000 miles ~ was told rack assembly power steering was bad , brakes ~ touch apply going down hill front end shakes worked on 13 months ago doing it again @ 50,000 miles , warped. *tr

I bought this car new and have had nothing but trouble since leaving the lot. biggest issue being in april 2012 began having issues with car burning/loosing oil. car would loose 1 quart or more with in 200 miles. have taken it to mechanicsville toyota on different occasions and had a oil consumption test done only to be told i need to replace the motor and it is not covered under warranty not only due to mileage but not being a loyal customer and not having my service work done there. my husband is a mechanic and has done all the service work by the book. my issues happen at various speeds where the car will jerk, shake, accelerate and decelerate while the abs light, traction control light comes on and the check engine light comes on and will blink well over 20 times before staying lit. i had to drive around with a case of oil in my car never knowing when i would need to add. i have had to borrow a car from my family as i no longer feel safe driving this one. it can at any given moment leave me or just stall while driving. i have kept detailed notes from going back and forth to the dealer. as you can see by the other complaints this is a know problem with toyota with the piston rings/seals, etc. even though i know my ar is no longer covered under warranty, i feel toyota being such a well known company and harping about safety should step up and do something with or without government assistance, and do something about this. i know i will never buy another toyota vehicle as they do not stand behind them. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry. the contact stated that the transmission failed to shift out of park into another gear. in addition, while reversing, the gear failed to change over. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who was unable to replicate and diagnose the failure. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer and the clutch assembly was replaced, but the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken to the dealer again to service the transmission, but the condition continued. the vehicle was later taken to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. the vin was not provided. the failure mileage was 130,000.

I was driving along at about 40mph when all of a sudden there was no power going to the wheels. the engine was running but no power was going to the wheels. luckily, i was on a city street and i was able to coast around a corner. i put the car in park and caught my breath, and then when i put it in gear it ran okay. the next day, the same thing happened again--loss of power--coasting to a stop. i double checked and the car was in fact in drive--but no power to the wheels. i took the car to the dealer and they replaced the hybrid ecm (which they have retained) and the park/neutral safety switch. (which i have). *tr *js

I was parked in a parking garage with the car running i was speaking on the phone via the vehicles bluetooth. upon ending the call i exited the car to ensure it was parked properly between the lines and close enough to the wall in front of the parking space. i then retrieved my laptop bag, coat and hat from the drivers side backseat. i put my coat on closed it up, put on my hat and extended the arm on my laptop bag. i then closed the back door and turned to retrieve items from the front seat and turn off the vehicle. as i turned to return to return to the front seat door the car flew out of the parking space. as the car passed me and the car beside me the front door swung completely open. i ran and chased the car for fear it might hit someone and also assuming i did not place the car in park. upon jumping into the moving car the first thing that hit me was the bright "p" lit up on the dash indicating the car was already in park. i attempted to apply the brakes and also constantly pushing the gear up. finally both my actions and the cars acceleration were stopped by the slamming of the car into a cement wall. while i have no recollection of the actual impact the visible signs upon my body were a large red knot over my right eye as well as scraped and bloody knees. after finally turning the car off the car failed to start up again. the incident was reported by my husband to the car manufacturer the day of the incident and while they provided us with a 60 day maximum timeframe the time has lapsed and we still have heard nothing from the manufacturer. note: mileage is approximate. *tr

My wife had backed her 2007 toyota camry out of our garage onto the driveway to wash the car. the driveway is on a medium incline. she was in the process of cleaning the inside of the car along with our granddaughter. the car was in park and the ignition key in her pocket. after cleaning the inside passenger compartment with our granddaughter in the driver side she was in the process of walking around the front of the car in order to clean the driver compartment when our granddaughter was moving to the passenger side she hit the automatic transmission shifter it came out of park and rolled across the ally into the neighbors back fence. my wife got into the car and drove to the front of the house put the car in park, removed the key and was able to take the car out of park without her foot on the brake and the key removed. we took the car to toyota dealer. the next day we picked the car up from the dealer and were told they could not duplicate the problem. they told us to take the car and if it happened again leave the car as is with the car out of gear, call them and they would send a tow truck. the next day my wife drove the car to the shopping mall. when she returned the car she was able to take the car out of park with the key out of the ignition. she was unable to get the service rep on the phone so she drove home and parked the car in the garage. approximately 15 minutes later we all went out to the car and had her son try to take the car out of park without the key in the ignition which he did. there was no resistance in the shifter when removing from park and could freely move the shifter. we left the shifter in the drive position and called the dealer who sent a tow truck and had the drive verify the car could be shifted with the key out. the rep called and said the could not duplicate the problem. we have been trying to tell them all the have to do is drive the car ...

The oil light on my 2007 toyota camry comes on before the required oil change is due. when i take it to the dealership, they say it is low on oil & it is normal to burn about a quart of oil for every 700 - 1000 miles & i need to check it between oil changes and probably add additional oil. there is not an oil leak and several other 2007 camry owners have reported the same issue and response. additionally, i own a 1998 camry and it has never been low on oil. *tr

I was driving for work with my toyota camry 2007. while accelerating to get on the highway, around the end of the ramp, my vehicle suddenly accelerated with no controls working from the driver's seat either for the steering wheel or the brake. in a matter of a few seconds, the vehicle went a few times in a zig-zag manner and subsequently hit a semi-trailer which was southbound on the highway. my car was completely smashed in the front and totaled later. this incident occurred after my car went through the accelerator pedal replacement as per recommendation of the toyota recall procedure. i could have been easily killed in this accident. i got a traffic ticket for the first time in my life after having a ticket-free driving record for the past 11+ years. i am pleading 'not guilty' for this ticket because the defective toyota car was responsible for the accident and not my error. *tr

My car is a 2007 camry xlev6, and was not listed as part of the toyota recall (it has locking mats). pulled into driveway at my home, with foot on brakes as i touched auto garage door opener on visor. car gear was in d. as i removed foot from brake to gas pedal to pull into garage, and lightly placed foot on accelerator, instantaneously engine revved, pedal went to floor, tach zoomed and auto jetted into garage. i immediately hit brakes with both feet, attempting to disengage transmission from d and put into n. gear shift erratically plunged into r and car began to go backwards with engine throttle wide open. again, with tires squealing, smoking & laying rubber, i tried to jam gearshift to n or p, and car jettisoned forward hitting garage wall at full force. with millisecond recovery, i held onto gearshift ' all the time my feet were on brakes ' again tried to force it into p, and it again went to r, (must pass n and r to get gear into p) then again forward in another direct hit against garage wall, breaking the wall open and splitting sheetrock as auto nearly popped through to laundry room and gas furnace. i held the push-button in while simultaneously forcing gear shift again to reach p. engine went from full-bore open to a stop. this event was so frightening. had it occurred minutes earlier i was in commute traffic and in residential area returning home from metro. pedestrians and schoolkids were in the area. i exited car to run into house, call for help. damage to garage wall (and laundry area) is substantial, but was minimized to the auto due to a set of four tires against the garage wall which provided some cushion. bluetooth phone (hands-free car) would not disconnect. i borrowed neighbor's phone to call husband and police/fire. emergency firetruck team arrived to ensure no gas line break, fairfax police officer also on site. after repeated attempts & long wait times to talk with toyota, i was told not to move car, wait 10-30 days to investigate. here sits. *tr

I own a 2007 toyota camry with a manual transmission and when only had around 500 miles on the vehicle the clutch started sticking and the dealer tried to act as if i didn't know what i was talking about until they tested it and it happened to them. a new clutch was then put in and i didn't have any problems until now. i now have 31000 miles on the vehicle and today as i was leaving out of the parking space at work the clutch stuck and i had to put the car in neutral and apply the emergency brake and wait until the clutch popped up. i was then able to drive home without any problems but 1 st thing on monday i will have it at the dealer. what i want to know is, have any similar problems been reported? if not then mine is the first and this should be checked into. *tr

My 2007 camry hesitates when trying to accelerate from a standstill, and rpm keeps dropping from 2000 rpm to 1000 rpm for a second and back to 2000 rpm as i'm trying to maintain speed. it could make my car to slide on icy road because of this engine braking, and it happens every time i just touch gas pedal and let go rpm drops and goes back to cruising rpm all in 1 second. this happens as soon as i remove my foot of the gas pedal, causing like braking feeling. i told toyota dealership in guelph, ontario about this problem but their master service advisor craig allen says that is normal. i believe that there is electronic throttle issue. *tr

After rice toyota in greensboro "fixed" my 2007 toyota camry on 2/27/2010 for both recalls i have experienced a sudden surge in acceleration twice. once from a standing start when i slightly depressed the accelerator and the car suddenly took off at a much higher rate than i intended, the second time was in traffic while accelerating to a higher speed limit the car surged past the limit. please look at the ecu's, this car hasn't been right since the first tank of gas was used, it's as is the ecu isn't allowing the timing to advance and retard properly. *tr

I have 2007 camry. while driving between 40 and 60 mph, when i peddled the accelerator the car does not pick up/accelerate. the rpm goes from 2000 to 4000 rpm, and after a couple of seconds of delay car picks up. it's very dangerous, especially, while merging onto a freeway where there is no shoulder lane and you have to merge in really fast. the dealer said it's a problem with the software and they updated the software in my car. i still have the same problem and it occurs frequently in winter. i went to the dealer recently and they said there is nothing wrong with the transmission, it's just the way 2007 models are. in other words, they made a piece of junk in 2007 and now they can not do anything about it. i am hoping to see the recall for this issue soon. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry. the contact stated as he was driving 15 mph the vehicle started to accelerate at a uncontrollable speed. he put his feet on the brakes and the gear in neutral the vehicle slowed down but as he waited for about five minutes before moving. the vehicle motor kept revving. he drove the vehicle home and called the dealer. the vehicle was towed to the dealer and a representative took it out for a test drive and inform him the transmission was burnt out and that they are going to replace the transmission. the contact stated he is not safe driving the vehicle and does not want the vehicle back. the failure mileage was 12,500. the consumer stated the part was on backorder for the recall. the transmission was replaced. updated 04/13/10

On feb 10, 2010 my 07 toyota camry accel pedal stuck on me, 5 days after the recall was done on it. it revved from 2000-4000 rpms, i had to brake hard for it to stop and regain control. took it into toyota, they looked at it, returned the car and told me "nothing was wrong." on march 4, 2010 it happened again, this time it accelerated from 20 mph to 40 mph in a split second, and i almost hit the car in front of me. again i had brake hard to gain control of my vehicle. toyota again looked over my car, and again came up with nothing wrong with my car. so that is two times after the recall was completed that my has accelerated. it also did accelerate before the recall. *tr

In 2007 we leased a new camry along with another new toyota product on the same day. my wife has had the accelerator stick on her and she had to use the emergency brake to stop the car and ran off the road. she narrowly avoided having a terrible accident in the car while my four year old daughter was in the car with her. the dealership picked up the car and attempted to fix it. the first time my wife drove the car the accelerator stuck again. they have since came and picked it up again and have had it for almost two weeks with no progress or solutions offered. the car is unsafe and they have no solutions to fix it. they tell us they're waiting on toyota engineers to come but have no date or time that will happen. my wife is terrified of the car and rightfully so. there are only 15 months left on the lease and we just want them to purchase the car back. it is leased through toyota financial. this has been going on for too long for them to have no solutions for a repair. *tr

I have a 2007 japanese-made camry. i bought at a premium (well above invoice and above msrp because servco hawaii does not give discounts) thinking i was paying for a reliable and well-made vehicle. i have had other toyotas but none with as many problems as this vehicle. and, with all the news of accelerator problems, i would like my problems checked and not be charged for it. i do not like the idea of having to pay $103 (1hr labor) x 3 different accelerator issues + another $103 to see why there is the smell of gasoline coming from the a/c vent. 1. when stepping on the accelerator, i will get no response... i continue to depress the gas, still no response. then finally, the car will thrust forward violently. this has been mentioned to toyota hawaii dealer several times saying it was normal for drive by wire vehicle and that it will take some getting used to. 2. when accelerating slowly, the car will rev high without the automatic transmission upshifting.. i have to depress the gas more and the car will rev even higher before upshifting. 3. on 2 different times, the car has revved and jumped forward while not in gear. the first time was at an intersection. i shifted into neutral with the p-brake on and it felt as if someone hit my car from the rear. the car jumped into the busy crosswalk about 2 feet until i hit the brake pedal and shifted it back into drive. another time was at the drive-thru window in park. the car didn't move but jerked violently. both were on flat surfaces. 4. when under heavy acceleration, the car sometimes give off the smell of gasoline. it is not exhaust fumes but smells of raw gasoline. a/c in recirculate mode. i also have been having numerous other quality problems with excessive rattling of trim and door ajar alarm going off for no reason. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry. the contact stated that when accelerating and attempting to shift into gear, the transmission hesitated. the failure occurred while driving approximately 25 mph. the dealer advised the contact to have the transmission replaced and offered a 10% discount. the contact declined and the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be repaired. the contact stated that the transmission had failed several times. the failure mileage was approximately 80,000.

I own a 2007 toyota camry se v6. i have experienced since the day i bought it where i can be driving along and when i slow down, the engine will rev and the tachometer will go up to around 4,000 rpm and then what seems like 30 seconds or more, the gears will finally catch and the car will go and all this results in a jerk like reaction giving me a whiplash feeling. it can happen at any speed and the latest experience happened when i was going around 55 mph, on the highway which was very full with traffic. it was very frightening not to mention a main concern as to if the car were to lose power, i would have to somehow coast to the side of the highway and where i was there wasn't much room to pull over. *jb

I have toyota camry 2007. i had experienced the rpm shooting up in low acceleration. i took the vehicle to dealer for repair in early feb 2010, but the dealer detected no problem. however, as the problem persisted and it happened frequently, so i took the video of speedometer and tachometer, and went back to dealer with the video. mechanics at the dealer tried to duplicate the problem with computer hooked to my car, and i drove the car with them. but again, the problem could not be duplicated. dealer advised me that this has nothing to do with sudden acceleration of toyota vehicles, and asked me to come back if the problem persists. toyota did not perform any repair at that time. however, after this visit to the dealer, i have not experienced the same problem as frequently. i may have noticed it few times in the past month although i feel that acceleration seem unsteady. no accident has occurred, and i do not have sudden acceleration problem as reported on the news. however, i am concerned that the problem i have might be related to the sudden acceleration problem. i would like to provide the video if it can help nhtsa's current investigation for sudden acceleration of toyota vehicles. the consumer felt the transmission temporarily disengaged or down shifted temporarily. the rpm jumped about 200-500 rpms momentarily. when it happened, the consumer felt an abrupt, but slight jerk, but it didn't accelerate in an uncontrolled manner. updated 04/29/10 *jb
