Problems with 2007 Toyota Camry ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL

On average, the 2007 Toyota Camry starts to “feel” problems with the ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL and its various aspects after 104 626 miles.

Recently reported ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL problems on 2007 Toyota Camry

Abs actuator failed for no apparent reason. many warning lights came on suddenly while normal driving. the lights included slippage, abs, check vsc, and emergency break. the break action response was diminished. this is a known problem to toyota, and they extended the warranty, but ours is beyond the new extension window. cost to repair is $1,600

Driving on street approaching an intersection where i was turning left and had a green light when the abs/esc lights on the dash turned on and brakes stopped working. this caused me to roll through the intersection and almost cause an accident. had to stop by rolling into curb. found the brakes do work somewhat now but are dangerously weak.

The brake lights systems and abs lights comes out as i start the car and all gauges stop working, the ac don't work when this happens. i can't tell how fast im going because the speedometer gauge failed to provide the correct reading, the abs control module and emergency warning indicator illuminates on the screen. this happens while i am driving, it does ramdonly and now is more frecuently.

Abs control module needs replacing. brake and abs light come on,no a/c and speedometer goes to 0. brake lights don't work during episodes which could cause you to get rear ended. these episodes occur while idling and driving.

Just purchase a 2007 toyota camry le from sterling mccall toyota a few months ago and now just finding out that the car has a oil consumption issue with no indication that the engine had ever had and problems now it's a the engine has possibly blown out or locked because of this issue it will not start. i paid for this vehicle in full in cash from the dealer i'm trying to find out how to get my money back for the vehicle sale price and the other minor repairs that i made to this vehicle. the vehicle could have killed me and my children it just turned off while we were driving home during the day, almost caused a car accident.

My 2007 toyota camry lr abs system is not working, i read numerous complaints (over 197 complaints with this problem on 2007 camry le's) to your site with same problem: warning lights , speedometer needle at "0", etc. cost to replace abs system over $2,500. someone said the abs was only to prevent skids and even though speedometer is not showing speed, that no other problem such as sudden stop, or brake failure, etc would happen, complaints on your site show that other problems, can result, what can we do? my car mileage is 79,899. this is a continuing problem started approx. august 2017 - -

I have a 2007 camry with 125,000 miles. it is impeccably cared for, it has new front and back brakes, new rotors, new battery and new tires. the problem started several weeks ago in april 2017. while driving modest speeds on regular roads, the break and abs warming lights come on, and the speedometer stops working and goes to 0, even though the car is moving. this keeps happening intermittently with no relation to speed or road conditions. also, i live in sunny california, and never in my life have had to use the abs system for any breaking. i was told by my mechanic this is an abs brake control module problem, which will cost about $2500 to fix. this is outrageous!!! i am retired and cannot afford this kind of expense!!! i have been driving toyotas for over 40 years and i never had this problem or even heard of this problem before. my prior camry lasted for 14 years and 200,000 miles and never had this problem. toyota truly needs to fix the problem or at least tell all future camry buyers to be prepared for a $2500 - $5000 expense in the future. if i had known about this when i bought the car i would never have bought it!! *js

The dashboard is melting and the car burns oil fast

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry. while driving 65 mph, the brake pedal was depressed, but the vehicle failed to stop in a timely manner. the contact stated that the brake pedal had to be depressed several times before the vehicle stopped. in addition, the check vehicle stability control and two other unknown warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to smithtown toyota (360 east jericho turnpike, smithtown, ny 11787, (844) 547-4559) where it was diagnosed that the brake actuator needed replacement. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 198,000.

I had to beak really hard on my car when i got cut off and now i have a "check vsc system as well as traction control off light constantly on since the hard break.

My abs light and brake light simultaneously came on when i was at a stoplight one day at the same time my air conditioner only blows out hot air and i was told that this is a safety issue because if you step on your brakes too fast or anything like that the car can skid or lose traction or ever the case may be to me this is a manufactured default and should be recalled for warranty to be replaced since most of these issues are causing people 2500 plus which is way more than the value of the car on top of the burden it cost to get it fixed it's very dangerous and there are plenty of other people that i have complained online and spoke with that their abs modules have also went out on this year car as well as melting dashboard defaulted power windows oil consumption which i need to go check mine to see if that is also happening on this model 07 very unethical very dangerous!!! i mean come on if it's a warranty issue it would be something that we would have to maintain on a regular basis and order for it not to be broken but obviously this is not something that you can maintenance like your oil or your tires this needs to be recalled this is my formal complaint thank you

Abs actuator problem: my 2007 toyota camry has a failed abs actuator. this will cost me $2,000 to replace. the abs and brake warning lights lit up on the dashboard and the tachometer started fluctuating wildly, so i had it towed to the dealer. i have had the car for 9.5 years and it has about 78,000 miles on it, so i believe the original part should have lasted longer. i am aware of the abs actuator problems on the 2007-08 camry hybrid models, so i think you should investigate the abs actuators on the regular camry models too.

I have a 2007 toyota camry. it has about 170,000 miles. i get regular oil changes and check up on the car. while driving my vehicle vsc lights, brakes, and battery light comes on and my power steering goes out. my car engine turns off and i am unable to recrank it. all of my systems are on such as the ac, radio, and lights, however the vehicle is unable to start. this has happened to be twice in 1 week. the first time i got it towed to the dealership and they stated it was just the battery. so after paying over $150 for a diagnostic and oil change, i drove my car away only to get about 5 miles down the road and it happened again. this time, i almost crashed into a car while i was trying to pull my car safely off the road. this led to a second tow truck bill and an irritable call to the dealer. the car is there now and they have no idea what is going on. they are trying to state the car may have water damage to the computer system which seems to be total bs. my car has not been in any type of flood zones. luckily for the inconvenience they provided me with a rental car because i was left stranded after they assured me that my car was safe to drive. that is the only upside of this, however i am concerned they will come back to me with an astronomical bill for a computer error. has anyone else had this issue to happen? this is very scary to drive a car and it just cuts off on you. bad move toyota, bad move!

While running (sitting still or moving) the dashboard gauges will go crazy. the speedometer will go to 0, the brake and abs lights will come on and the rpm may bounce around. the temp gauge may also drop to c. otherwise, the car appears fine. this can happen at any time (engine cold or warm, driving in city or highway). the length of the episodes vary from a second (or less) to 20+ minutes. from a little research, i can tell other toyota camry (around the same year) owners have also encountered this issue.

Recently the "abs" and "brake" light came up; now these light come up and stay on for some time- simultaneously; the needles of the mph, rpm, h/c, and gas gauge drops- the prm needles flicker up and down. also, the temperature marker doesn't work. the mph hits down to '0' when i am on the road at normal speed. but i don't know my speed. my air conditioning system does not work when this happens. i also notice that it doesn't track the "trip' miles when it is out of control (although i haven't noticed if it fails to track the mileage on the odometer. then this 'problem' stops and the car goes back to "normal." a few minutes later, the same problem. the problem can last for 5 minutes to 20 minutes. i called toyota service's 800 number after searching the web and reading similar problems being documented. here are just a few: http://www.carcomplaints.com/toyota/camry/2007/electrical/electrical_system.shtml; http://www.justanswer.com/toyota/5o8xa-toyota-camry-operating-2007-camry-occasionally.html. one person posted 'i called the toyota corporate office in 2012', yet when i called toyota claimed no knowledge. the person i spoke to even said they have never received a call about this before. some of the posts online of people who have complained about this issue state the exact thing toyota told me over the phone. this is a huge safety hazard. i tried to defrost my windows and had an issue with that because the car was on the "abs" "brake" and the car was acting up. my car tested positive for oil consumption problem and i am waiting to get that replaced. now this started happening. this "new" problem needs to be addressed and corrected by toyota.

The board of alante melts with the heat and does not let me see why he was much billo and i had an accident due to that problem nesecito help

The water temperature, rpm gauge and speedometer randomly fluctuate, abs and brake lights stay on. it occurred when vehicle moving or stop. the mechanics told me the abs module in engine compartment failed however the braking is still functional. the abs function might stop working.

This car is burning through oil in between changes. the abs system has also failed. no major problems, just annoying.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry. the contact stated that while driving at 60 mph, the vehicle stability control warning light and the traction control light illuminated. the contact also stated that the brakes also failed to operate as intended. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the failure was unable to be determined. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 112,003.

Check vsc system light come up!

My problem is that i cannot back-up using the gear shifter as it's supposed to be used. the mechanic removed the little panel in the front of the gear handle, allowing me to press it manually.i was told it could not be fixed (by him) unless it was happening then. which it was not doing at the time i took it to him. you see, it happens intermittently. sometimes the gear shifter will kick in after i press the brake, and sometimes it will not kick in and that's when i have to push the switch mannually. i am concerned that it will never be able to be fixed because it is an intermittent occurrence.

This morning i was taking my kids to school driving in a straight line under 30 mph on a neighborhood paved road. as i was approaching the 4 way stop, my dash read "check vcs system" plus all these light came on my dashboard such as a brake light, a circle with an exclamation, a few other lights that im not sure what they are and my brakes were extremely difficult to stop . i ended up rolling through the 4 way stop and was able to stop on the side of the road in a ditch. i was able to drive back to my house going very slowly and with an extremely large amount of space to stop. i then took my car to a local auto parts store to read the codes but they were unable to read them because it was not an engine code. on my way back to the house, all lights disappeared and the local toyota shop said it would be difficult to do a diagnostic without any lights. i am extremely thankful my kids and the kids walking across the cross walk at the four way stop were not injured!

The water temperature, rpm guage and speedometer randomly fluctuate, abs and brake lights stay on. a/c will randomly stop working.

When driving downhill with foot depressed on brake the vehicle was trying to accelerate, abs light game on and brake light simultaneously , speedometer stopped working, tach went crazy and car began to idle roughly and try to surge forward with foot on brakes

5/13/2015: 2007 toyota camry. vsc (vehicle stability control) light came on (5/9/2015). it was very difficult to stop the vehicle. had to floor the brakes in order to stop the vehicle. the steering was all over the place, not tight with the steering wheel movements. brought it to the dealership (new country toyota of clifton park, ny) where we bought it 9 months ago and they said this is a common part that fails. if this is true, there should be a recall...this is a huge safety issue. i am thankful that my son didn't get in an accident. they now want $2500 to repair it. when we purchased this vehicle for our son 9 months ago, they said that we can get 250,000 miles out of it, it was a very safe car for our son to be in....i beg to differ!!! i see lots of complaints listed for this electronic stability contol and hope there will be a recall.

My 2007 toyota camry xle lost control of steering, brakes and stability control. the car surged left, right, left the went off the road to the right. the brakes were applied but did not seem to have any function. massive damage was caused to the body from hitting 2 trees. no airbag deployment. *tr

Currently i am having a problem with my abs and brake light coming on and my module not reading my speed, temperature, or rpms correctly or at all some times. i spoke with a technician that i have gotten work done with before and he told me that he had another customer with the same year same model call in and their car was having the same problem. while the people at my insurance company told me that it may have to do with the age of the vehicle and dismissed my claim. he told me that the only way they would know is if they could diagnose the vehicle again. but the replacement parts are expensive and i'm starting to think it may be a problem with the manufacturer. *tr

I was driving about 30 miles an hour and approaching a stop sign and suddenly, all dashboard lights come on, the brakes stopped functioning. i lost control of the car briefly but was able to regain it and was eventually able to bring it to a stop. *tr

Over the last few months, frequently my 2007 camry dashboard displays erroneous information - tach, speedometer and temperature gage read zero and brake and abs lights go on. clearly these are safety issues. also, the air conditioner goes off and the air coming out of the ducts goes to full hot. dealership indicates they have never heard of the problem before and therefore doesn't know how to fix it. i see many similar complaints on the web and noticed that the camry hybrid has a recall for something that looks similar to this safety issue. *tr

Our 2007 toyota camry all of a sudden started having what appears to be electrical issues. brake and abs lights come on while the tachometer and speedometer bounce up and down uncontrollably and the ac cuts in and out while this is happening. it will correct itself for a few minutes and then start acting up again. i am reading many other similar complaints online and feel toyota should definitely do something to correct this issue. *tr

My 2007 toyota camry all of a sudden started having what appears to be electrical issues. brake and abs lights come on while the tachometer bounce up and down uncontrollably and the speedometer reads at 0 when in fact im on the freeway driving at i believe 55-60mph. the gear lights on dashboard turn off. it has been almost been a month now and the car feels like its going to stall then it will correct itself for a few minutes and then start acting up again. *tr

Abs and brake light came on while driving also my speedometer needle does not move, and rpm gauge starts fluctuating. this occurs intermittently. i took it to the toyota dealer they told me i have to replace the brake actuator assembly (skid control ecu) a total cost of $3,453 to fix. :( my car has only 67,750 miles. i do know the 2007 camry hybrid is having the same problem and those are being recalled. *tr

Several warning lights on the dash illuminated, including the stability control and brake lights, along with a warning on the dic that said "check vsc." there was also an intermittent loss of braking ability/brake pedal pressure. *tr

I actually just bought a used 2007 hybrid camry last monday. there were no indicators on the dash and it looked great. 2 days later the check vsc system and abs lights come on the dash. i took to the dealer immediately and the problem is the same as everyone else here, failure in brake accumulator. the technician was very adamant about me parking the car immediately until repairs are completed. he said the brakes can go out at any time, vehicle is unsafe to drive. the repairs are going cost over $1500. *js

Abs, speedometer, tachometer, rpm and a/c jumps on and off all over the place. i took it to a toyota dealer, could not find what was the problem but they assumed it may be the abs module or some other modules may not be talking to each other. i have researched on line toyota camry forums and and found they are lots of toyota camry owners with the same issues. this is a very safety issue because im not able to see at the speed my car is going when driving it because tachometer gauges among the others gauges working intermittent (on and off) i request for toyota to place a recall for all toyota camry having this mayor safety electronics problems. i would not mind paying for repair if toyota dealer knew what the problem was but they don't know and if the repair did not exceed ocer thousands of dollars for something that the manufacture has failed to addressed and fix. thank you.

On june 5, 2014 i was driving my 07 camry at approximately 40 mph when the abs, brake and vsc warning lights came on. it took more effort to engage the brakes in the car and i drove the car to keyes toyota. the vehicle was checked and several codes were identified. c012 rear speed sensor rh circuit, c0215 rear speed sensor lh circuit, c1331 open circuit in left front circuit, u0073 control module bus off. service writer found that the abs actuator was shorting out intermittently and advised that the vehicle may not be safe to drive. he advised that the vehicle was not covered under warranty and that the repair would cost approximately $2,750 plus tax. i was not able to pay for the repair at this time. on 6-9-14 contact was made to toyota and they advised that there were no recalls or tsb's for the abs system on non hybrid 07 camry even though the symptoms experienced and the repair codes were similar. toyota declined assistance and advised that if they did do a recall i could submit for possible reimbursement of the repair. in researching this i found over 125 abs related complaints reported to nhtsa. in addition there are numerous complaints on the internet with persons who have experienced the very same symptoms some of which have almost been involved in collisions. this seems to be the very same issue that the 07 hybrid camry was recalled for and yet nothing is being done for the non hybrid version. this to me is a safety concern that should be recalled. *tr

Abs and brake lights came suddenly on and the speedometer stopped working. i tested the break and i had to push hard to make it work. i was on the highway and at 65 mph. i got really scared and after a while everything came back to normal. it happened again today and happening frequently.

I have a 2007 camry le and in 2013 i noticed the abs and break lights on the dashboard come on intermittently, tachometer bounces up and down and speedometer shows 0. this kept happening intermittently. this is a huge safety issue, since when driving on the highway, if it doesn't show the correct reading on the speedo meter and the breaks may not function as expected which might lead to accidents. i got it checked(diagnostics test) at a toyota dealership and they indicated that the abs actuator unit is faulty and needs to be replaced and the cost would be around $2000. i called toyota to complain since this is an electrical/electronic component and nothing really related to ware and tear, they indicated there are no recalls for abs actuator assembly. i looked online and found that camry hybrids 2007 have the same problem and toyota is providing "warranty extension" for owners who experienced this problem. i believe the same warranty extension for abs actuator should apply to 2007 camry non hybrid models also. seeking nhtsa help in this regard. *tr

While my son was traveling to school the vsc light came on the warning panel. at that time the brakes were hard to operate and took a few seconds to reengage and the brakes locked up bringing the car to a skidding stop. after a minute the lights went off and he was able to travel again, but the same incident happened again the next morning taking my other kids to school when the roads were icy! this is a situation where someone will be killed behind faulty equipment being ignored by toyota on the 2007 camry hybrids. *tr

Customer states abs light on, (dealer) diagnostic code c1391, abnormal leak in accumulator. recommend replacement of accumulator and brake flush. $3642.00 inc. tax. part is described as accumulator/hydraulic control/ecu assembly, part number 44050-30660, by dealer. (foregoing provided by service invoice at date/time of diagnosis, 02/05/2014). (awaiting possible action by nhtsa as a safety related matter). *tr

Times and mileage are approximate because we did not know at the beginning that this would be a persistent problem. around january 1, 2014, when we started the camry after leaving the grocery store, four dash warning lights and a message display went on and stayed on (brake system (red), brake system (yellow), master warning (red), anti-lock brake system (yellow), and "check vsc system" (in display)). during this time the vehicle had no power assist brakes, no anti-lock brakes, and as best we can determine - no vehicle stability control system; it had only manual hydraulic brakes that were hard to push and slow to stop the car. we drove the car home carefully and parked it. when we next started the camry the lights were not lit, and all systems worked. when the same problem occurred at a later date we took the car to a local toyota dealer. the lights were still on when we dropped off the car. the dealership reported that there were no warning lights lit when they investigated the problem; no diagnostic codes were recorded by the vehicle's electrical system. we agreed that upon the next occurrence we would drive the camry to the dealer without turning it off. unfortunately, at the next occurrence the lights illuminated, the brake assist systems were inactive, but the condition reversed itself as we drove to the dealer (without turning off any systems). the dealer found no codes upon testing for this occurrence. we agreed the dealer would come to the car at the next occurrence. unfortunately that happened in the middle of the night on the highway (65 mph) and the dealer was not available. this brings us current to 4/28/14. we are concerned about driving the car without abs or vsc systems, and we believe that the manufacturer should have information about how these conditions have been corrected in other vehicles even with no diagnostic codes. *js

Abs light, brake light comes on intermittently then speedometer and rpm gauges goes to zero and a/c if it is on blows warm air. *tr

About two days ago, i was driving and my instrument panel started doing some crazy stuff. the brake light and abs light came on, and my temp gauge, rpm, and odometer started fluctuating. this lasted about 30-45 seconds the first time. since then it happens intermittently every time i'm driving and it lasts a couple of minutes each time. i was already scheduled to go in for an oil change today, so i had the service department at my local dealer check out this problem also. the tech first quoted a $53 diagnostic fee, but called me back a couple of hours later to say that they need a more extensive diagnostic process, which would increase the fee to $99. she also said that i needed brakes and a battery ($202 front brakes+$118 battery+$89 brake fluid replace). about an hour later, she called me back and gave me the devastating news that my abs actuator/skid control computer needed to be replaced. the cost was $1686 for the part, and the total with labor would be $2035. this did not include my $40 oil change, battery, and breaks. nevertheless, i opted to wait on the $2000 abs issue. i went to pick up my car and was actually charged $148 for the diagnostic fee. essentially, i paid $199 for an oil change and for them to diagnose a problem that they already knew to be a common camry problem. i would have never purchased a toyota if i had known that this was a common problem. also this is a toyota specific part, so it's not like you can shop around for a deal. i have to pay this ridiculous amount of money because i don't want my children riding in an unsafe car. i'm so disgusted right now. *tr

Vsc warning on dash, check engine light, traction control light, and general warning (triangle with exclamation). acceleration seemed stiffer than normal, thought smelled something burning. at dealer for diagnostics. have reported need to replace transmission computer ($872.09 total) and possibly the engine computer (trans. + engine = 2233.35 total). 2007 camry xle, approx. 64,000 mi. purchased 10/18/2006. there have been at least three recalls for the 2007 camry line. should these repairs be covered by toyota? should i have the car evaluated by transmission specialist, such as aamco? *tr

For several months, car steering wheel, and at times, car as a whole vibrates; then, upon driving around corner, going only 25 mph on 07/11/2013, suddenly, speedometer, rpm gauge, oil gauge all began jumping erratically, all at times going to zero, then the abs and brakes lights came on. (just had oil change done 3 weeks ago, with tire rotation of brand new tires (first rotation), and all 4 brakes pads replaced 2 weeks ago.). happened for few seconds, was aware, but didn't think about it anymore. next day, driving only 40mph, same thing again, but also this time, speedometer went and stayed at 0, as well as rpm and oil the same way, and car felt like it was going to fall apart underneath. i pulled off road, checked book, and said to go right to dealer. went to an advanced auto store for diagnosis. battery checked out good, thought was possibly the alternator may need replacing, though check pretty normal. same day, drove to auto repair where they know me, and they wanted 235.00 to order a part to fix the abs system. said it would cost me 825.00 there, versus about 2000.00 at dealer. this was all after their diagnosis that battery and alternator appeared fine. they told me this is very serious, life/death situ. they said if someone pulled out in front of me, my car would probably not stop, only skid/slide. later that day, on a stretch of road near home, i tried driving about 45-50mph, and then braked suddenly to see what it would do.(did this 4x). it did not stop suddenly, but skidded/slid to a stop, and underneath, it sounded as if car was going to fall apart! all kinds of noises! had alternator replaced 2 days ago, but is still happening; even driving on interstate yesterday, speedometer went to zero twice, gauges all erratic. was supposed to drive to mi from fl today, but don't even feel safe locally! online, have found many with same problems (2007 camry)! *tr

As i was driving my 2007 toyota camry over 60 mph on the expressway, my brake light and abs light both came on. the speedometer went down to 0 speed and the rpm & temperature gauge were bouncing up & down. the ac fan also shut off. i tried the emergency brake on a parking lot and they do not work when the above mentioned happens!! i took it to toyota dealership and they said it "seems" to be the brake actuator assembly and that repairing it will be $2500+. they did tell me that they have seen this problem before and that it is nothing i did wrong- just a "defective" part that toyota has not recalled "yet". i foresee class-action suits/cases regarding this issue in the near future!! i am extremely disappointed at toyota's unreliability and lack of customer satisfaction. *tr

i have a problem with the oil, it burns a lot of oil or engine may exhibit engine oil consumption) and there is no power at the cigarette lighter plug on both of them. my first thought was that the fuse for it must be blown. i checked the fuse box under the hood, but there is nothing broken.

Sudden unintended acceleration on august 25th 2011 at approximately 1:00 pm, my dad was driving to garvey ranch park located at (781 s orange ave, monterey park, ca 91755) as part of his daily routine. he had already pulled into the parking lot and was getting ready to park his car facing north bound. all of a sudden the car accelerated out of nowhere and hoped the parking curb still facing northbound. in order to avoid any casualties and prevent hitting any of the children near the playground, he was able to steer the car and made a u-turn at about 150 degrees. at this point he was facing south bound of the parking lot and the car continued to accelerate at high speeds. his car then hopped the curb on the south side of the parking lot. once the car hopped the parking curb on the south side, it continued to hop over a couple of raised concrete blocks that delineate a path onto the hillside just south of the parking lot. due to the steepness of the hill, it prevented the car from going any further and the car crashed in between two trees located on the hillside. we had already taken the car to longo toyota due to the acceleration recall back on march 13 2010. i couldn't believe the car still had mechanical issues after we had it serviced it for the recall and was glad that my dad did not sustain a very serious injury. the car is available for inspection if an nhtsa official would like to inspect the car. *tr

At 59,000 miles, the check vs system light came on, as well as check engine light. i took the car to the toyota dealer. at the time, i still had the extended warranty. they replaced "bank 2" ignition coil and charged me $100 deductible. at 70,528 miles the exact same thing happened. check vsc system and check engine light came on. at the time, still under extended warranty. it was diagnosed with bad # 6 coil. they charged me the $100 deductible. at 90,000 miles (now) the exact same symptoms. i am assuming it is another bad ignition coil. there should be a recall on the 2007 camry's ignition coils. i cannot afford to keep replacing ignition coils by a toyota dealership, especially now that my car is not under the extended warranty. i also had toyota replace clips on the air bag cover on passenger side in 2008. the part still sags. it is defective. it is in the toyota dealership computer system that i brought it in at least twice for the sagging air bag cover. the new clips did not fix it. *tr
