Recently reported POWER TRAIN problems on 2014 RAM 1500

Ram comes out of car wash and transmission will not engage into drive immediately. have to step on brake more than once to engage. took it the dealership numerous times and they concluded that this was normal.

The ram ecodiesel 3.0l truck had a check engine light that came on while driving, showing a p20ee error, requiring the replacement of the diesel exhaust selective catalytic reduction (scr) at under 27,000mi the dealership i dealt with was great in getting it fixed, but i am concerned the new exhaust scr that was installed won't last the life of the vehicle if the first one only lasted a little over 26,000mi unless they made a change and/or updated the part that was installed on my truck. i'm hoping the replaced part was updated by ram and the cause of this error corrected, but i have not been given this information at this time.

On 13 may i was coming to a metered light when a lane splitter caused me to hard brake to avoid the splitter. my truck, with no prompting from me shut off. i was nearly rear ended by a semi behind me. on 6 june i was coming to a light and nearly stopped and my truck shut off. on 7 july i was coming to a stop at a stop light and my truck shut off. each time this happens the truck turns off, the turn dial flashes "p" (as it is currently in d). i put the truck in p, turn the ignition back on, place turn dial into d and drive. each time carl burger dodge says that my truck doesnt "code" and they cant recreate the issue. i provided them with video's of what happens that i found on youtube and thats when they started a "star" case with chrysler main. my chrysler customer care assistance admits there is an issue saying "the tech's are working on it" but then says the best they can do is "give me 3 free years of oil changes". i am a disabled veteran and i have reached lemon law status but carl burger is not doing anything and chrysler says its carl burgers responsibility to take my truck back but carl burger says its chryslers. this truck is going to get me killed. there is another reported case in chula vista, ca and chrysler also gave them 3 free years of oil changes just like they did with me. your recall didnt include this year/make and model and it cant just be my truck, there is a dodge forumn that has this issue on the entire thread but since no customers vehicles "code" chrysler is keeping this quiet, i think they really have no idea what it is. carl burger says they cant keep taking my truck apart but "we believe you". please look into this.

Have a 2014 ram 1500 black express with 8 speed transmission. the truck downshifts very hard when slowing and seems to hesitate before upshifting randomly. the transmission also makes a grinding noise at idle and a metallic clank on acceleration. the dealer told me this was normal. that's funny because it went 9000 miles without doing it. i have contacted chrysler care to no effect and the dealer wont even look at the tranny until it throws codes. i am so mad.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 dodge ram 1500. while driving approximately 20 mph, the vehicle shifted out of gear and stalled. the failure recurred several times. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where the failure was unable to be duplicated. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 10,000.

We purchased a brand new ram 1500 february 27, 2015. we've been having the same on going problem with the vehicle since we purchased this vehicle. we brought it to the dealerships attention on several occasions and have been told the same thing every time which is "yes we acknowledge the problem is their however there is still no fix ".this has been going on for over 6 months. when you bring the vehicle. to a complete stop, it jumps or shifts as if it's trying to jump into another gear. when you try to drive off in the vehicle the vehicle gives a hesitation like it's trying to go into a higher gear before you even pull off. on top of this the vehicle currently have 3 recalls on it. we should not be experiencing this with a brand new truck. we've contacted the dealership several times regarding this issue but we're not getting any results. they just keep saying we're aware of the problem but there is stilll not a fix. we do not feel safe driving this vehicle and would like to see some results! we've been getting the same results for the past 6 or 7 months and have decided to contact nhtsa, hoping to get some results.

My 2014 dodge ram 1500 was idling in park in the driveway for approximately 5 minutes when with nobody in or near the vehicle it jumped into reverse and accelerated into a garage causing approximately $4,000 damage to the vehicle ( thank god nobody was injured or killed ) *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 dodge ram 1500. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign numbers: 15v459000 (air bags), 15v460000 (air bags, seat belts), 15v534000 (air bags), and 15v461000 (equipment). the parts were not available within a reasonable time frame to schedule the recall repairs for several months. the dealer did not give a specific date for when the parts would become available. the manufacturer could not provide an estimated date for when the vehicle would receive the recall repair. the contact stated that upon shifting gears, the transmission hesitated to change over and there was an abnormal noise. the contact also stated that the steering wheel difficult to turn. the failure mileage was not available.

After pulling into my drive way with my adult son in the passenger seat i was rolling up to the garage with my foot on the brake pedal slowing down the truck. i stopped the truck completely, by pushing on the brake pedal harder, about 5 feet from the house. i reached down to rotate the shift dial to park, "p". after turning to "p" the truck engine started revving and the truck lurched forward, after initially being startled i looked down and saw the shift dial was at "p" and the engine was still revving. the truck then struck the corner of the house while i was almost standing up on the brake pedal trying to get it to stop. i turned the shift dial to reverse and back to park and the truck stopped revving and moving. then i backed away from the house. being a retired police detective the first thing i did was to check to see if the factory floor mat had dislodged and jammed into the pedals but it was properly hooked in place. after getting the trucks body damage repaired i had it towed to the dealer but they could find nothing wrong with the truck. i did notice that when i picked the truck up from the dealer there was a clicking sound under the dash when i rotated the shift dial from "r" to "p" that i do not recall hearing before. no clicking is heard when changing between any other gears.

Won't brake properly and have no traction control both abs and traction lights stay on..transmission sometimes don't shift properly for a new vehicle. *tr

I have a 2014 ram 1500 reg. cab 2 whl. drive with only 8,300 miles, once and awhile when i drive my truck when i put it in park and shut off my truck i cant get my key out it only goes to accessories, i have to restart the truck put it back in drive then back in park shut the truck off to pull out my key...this has happened 15 + times.....i am sure if my truck was on small incline it would roll....looking for a recall on this but nothing....anybody else have this problem thank you

Part came loose in rear end destroying carrier and pinion bearings and clutch plates. this happened at a low speed so more damage was not done. *tr

December 16, 2014 check engine light came on. i took it to dealer and they said it was o2 sensor. they reset it and told me to blow 3.0 diesel engine out. check engine light came back on as well as a message that def fluid was wrong. i called dealer and they said bring it back in. dealer called me back and said i needed new catalytic converter but it was on back order and they couldn't give me a date. dealer told me truck was ok to drive. december 24, 2014 a warning message came up on truck that said truck would cut off in 190 miles and would not re start. dealer now has truck and still can't give me a date on when it will be fixed. they did tell me that there were 82 other trucks in the system like mine. there is an issue with the 3.0 ecodiesel engine and chrysler has no fix or won't tell anyone what is happening. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 dodge ram 1500. the contact stated that while parked on a hill, the vehicle rolled away. the failure recurred on numerous occasions. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 20,000.

On the afore mentioned date, i was operating vehicle on a 2 lane highway. when i attempted to pass a slower vehicle the transmission froze/locked into a lower gear, not allowing me to complete the pass of the other vehicle and there by forcing me to brake heavily to avoid a head on collision. i then returned the truck to the dealer whom i had just purchased from. as of this writing' they have neither found or corrected this issue. *tr

Backing down driveway and the driveshaft dropped out of truck. after checking i found that it had never been bolted to truck. dodge dealer picked it up and reattached the driveshaft. when i picked it up the technician told me it never had bolts on it. *tr

Me and my wife bought a new 2014 dodge ram 1500 hemi sport truck we have had this new truck for about five weeks now. and was at walmart on monday 11/24/2014 in mcminnville tn. we had just gotten back into the truck and started the truck. after starting the truck i turned the shifter knob dial on the dash into reverse. then i noticed that the backup camera didn't come on. the radio screen stayed on. so i wiggled the dial and put it back into park. and let off the brake and put it into drive and pulled back into the parking space. then shut the truck off. i then waited ten minutes before i restarted this truck. turned the shifter knob again into r-reverse, backup camers did not come on again. but was to start backing out of the parking space. after backing out about 4 to 5 feet, the camera came on as i was turning the dial fronr to n then to d. i am going to take the truck back to the dealers after thanksgiving and let them figure it out. if they can and i am going to contact thr dodge/ chyrsler factory before someone gets run over ,thinking the truck is in park but is still in reverse. *js

Driving on i-110 going 70 mph heard a loud boom barely made it off road almost wrecked. drive shaft broke! my son was in the car with me. i bought the truck 3 months ago brand new and at 3,000 miles the muffler was not even welded to the converter!! the transmission has also slipped a couple of times! *tr

I have a 2014 6cyl dodge ram 1500. i have found a few problems.first when i unlock the truck the dash lights and display screen flickers. secondly i was driving through the park going down a hill and the truck didn't down like it should it was running 2500rpm when it should have been around 1500rpm. lastly i took my family on a fishing trip and on the highway at 75mph i felt a stand vibration in the gas pedal and starting wheel. also i am very concerned just how long the gear knob is going to work. i'd feel much safer and sure about the truck if they had a normal gear shifter. *tr

Transmission will shift into neutral when slowing down to turn or stop. necessary to turn off engine start and put into gear. this has happened 18 times to date. i have a 4 page document detailing each time, place, and occurance. if i had an address to sent to. i am in a small town so have nor has any traffic problems but if i go to a large city this would be bad to stop and restart vehicle in heavy traffic. have had to dealers twice. first one told me they could not find anything. and second dealer after keeping my vehicle 3 days said he did not have time to look at it. ntsb # 10748878

I pulled out of parking lot into street. i felt like what was a flat tire. there was vibration and loud thumps. i immediately pulled over to check my tires. to my surprise i found my tires to be intact and looked under the truck and found the drive shaft had fallen. good thing i was only doing about 10 mph and not 60-70 on the highway. i immediately contacted ram and they towed my vehicle to the nearest dealer. the dealer is not very informative as to what happened and chrysler group is not giving this incident the proper attention it deserves. i am sharing this to let other ram owners know that this is a serious matter and should be addressed. ..updated 10/21/14 *bf updated 3/30/2015 *js *tr

i have had 16 incidents with my 2014 ram 1500, vin# [xxx]. equipped with an eight-speed automatic transmission. when i slowed down for a stop to turn right, the transmission went into neutral and the truck coasted down to a stop. the transmission knob would not shift out of drive and the transmission stayed in neutral. when i stopped and turned off motor, i could turn transmission shifter to park, start truck and shift into drive. this happened about 5 weeks apart. both times i was on a city street and it was not a traffic problem. current mileage 7455. i called my dealer and he said he had not heard of this problem, and said if it happened again to have to towed to him. i live 150 miles from him. my closest dealer is 60 miles. this is still happening almost monthly. i have dates and times i can send. don't have room in this form for complete complaint information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 dodge ram 1500. the contact stated while driving 60 mph, there was a sudden increase in engine rpms and there was no control over the speed while going up a mountain. also, the contact stated the transmission would not shift gears. the problem recurred for the second time. the dealer could not duplicate the problem. the vehicle had not been repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 3,300.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 dodge ram 1500. the contact stated that there was hesitation when changing gears from park to reverse or drive. the contact had to change multiple gears to get the transmission to switch over from park to drive or reverse. the reverse sensor and the drive sensor light illuminated sporadically. the contact was able to use the gear shifter knob to ensure that the vehicle was in the correct gear. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be repaired but the part needed to make the repair was on back order. the vehicle was to be inspected and repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 2100. updated 06/10/14*lj updated 06/11/2014 *js

While coming to a stop; traffic light, stop sign, etc. i can feel a hard jerk. i believe it's the transmission shifting to a lower gear but i'm not for certain. the hard jerk doesn't happen too often maybe once a day, but when it does it's very noticeable. i'm concerned this is causing additional stress and fatigue to my transmission and something will either snap or break.

On or about march 6 2014 when the truck sits over night or after about 5 hours when the motor and trans are cold , i notice a hesitation going from reverse to forward, this is a hesitation that is about 2-5 seconds, it seems that the motor is not getting enough air it seems like it wants to idle down. when this idle down it goes from the hesitation then like a idle air issue. with the hesitation from a low idle to idle that makes it go then i have to give this gas or try to since its a lot of electrical know. i am not sure. i live on a busy road and this is a issue that can affect my safety. i should not have to worry if it will go into drive. at this time this is a issue, i want to know when i put this into drive, it goes like it should this is a brand new truck. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 dodge ram 1500. while driving 20 mph and either preparing to stop or slow down the vehicle, the transmission began to switch from drive to neutral without warning. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the rotary switch failed and need to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired twice, but the failure was persistent. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vin was unknown. the failure mileage was approximately 9,000.

Truck was parked, we exited the truck, i was getting bags out of the back seat and a friend was getting his tool box out of the bed and when he leaned in the truck began to roll. it rolled 15 feet and stopped when it hit a snow bank. i got in the truck and verified it was in park. *tr

When truck is down shifting from 2nd to 1st the truck slams into first and makes a clunkimg sound. dealership flashed the computers and i have driven 2300 miles with the problem remaining. *tr

When temperature is below 40 degrees the transmission will not operate properly. i can move the truck in reverse ok but when i put it in drive it does not want to move. it revvs up but will not pick up speed. i had this to the dealer and they said that chrysler is aware of this but they have no fix at this time. there only answer is to let the truck warm up for 15 minutes before driving it. i was almost hit in the rear trying to get going and i am afraid that if i let someone else i n my family use this truck that they might not be aware of the problem and be in an accident. the truck shifts properly after traveling several blocks. this seems to be getting worse as kit is happening now with the temperature i the 40's. *tr

There is a continuous unknown electrical draw causing the battery to drain to the point the vehicle will not start. an electrical surge will cause the electric suspension to activate along with the console cluster after the vehicle has been turned off. the vehicle has been back to the dealership 6 times and neither the dealership or chrysler has a fix. the condition is getting worse and now there is a new issue affecting the electrical clutches in the transmission. i have requested a loaner vehicle until i can purchase a different vehicle i feel is safer. on april 3, 2014, the district chrysler representative denied the request. i believe this vehicle is unsafe for multiple possible reasons but especially concerned about he alternator. the alternator's function is to recharge the battery once it's been used to start the engine. and to keep the battery charged when various electrical systems are used in the vehicle. the alternator determines how much to charge the battery by measuring the reference voltage from the battery. if there's a problem with the battery where the reference voltage is very low, the alternator will try to recharge the battery. the alternator isn't designed to recharge a dead battery. it's intended to maintain the charge on a good battery. when this does happen, the alternator begins to run hot, and this is what kills the alternator. a dead battery while driving means no electric steering, no antilock brakes, no air bags, ect. i'm very concerned about the safety of this vehicle. *tr

The new ram trucks use a dial like shifter that chrysler is calling the "rotary shifter" in which the driver uses to select the transmission position from park or drive. the system is causing safety issues in confusing drivers thinking that they are looking for the windshield wipers, van speed control, or even thinking that the vehicle is in park when actually in drive. with our incident the driver thought the vehicle was shifted into park however it was in drive. the driver started to get out of the vehicle when it started moving forward causing a collision to another vehicle within our garage lodging the drivers head in the top portion of the door and leg in the lower causing injury not to mention damage to each vehicle involved. the damage combined to for both vehicles is well over $2,000 for a minor collision and also two separate collision claims on our auto policy. chrysler is calling it a diver error after reporting it to them under claim #24280455. we feel and after talking with others in the public in just this short amount of time that it is a safety issue as others in our area are having the same issue however no one was injured or in a collision from others that we have talked with thus far. *tr
