We have classified the 131 complaints from 2014 RAM 1500 about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
Was told the exhaust manifold bolt/studs warped and snapped and the exhaust manifold is warped, this happened on the driver side first but was covered under warranty but now happening on driver side out of warranty. was told my dealership they see this often and was told fca has fixed the problem in newer years by using stronger material in the bolts. this informs me that fca knows of the problem but the dealers won't cover it as a design defect. clearly there is a design defect with the exhaust manifold bolts as they should not be doing this and manufactures are suppose to account for these parts to see extreme temp changes. this has happened now twice to me but because i am no longer under warranty they won't fix the problem. the fist time was before 60,000 miles and now the other side is happening at 76,000 miles. to summarize the problem is warped exhaust manifold bolts and the manifold itself.
After parking my vehicle in my driveway with the rear on the upper side of a slight incline and placing the vehicle in park and shutting engine off, the vehicle strarts rolling downward for approxiamately 5 to 7 feet, eventually stopping. firsted noticed yesterday, 12/3/19 and then again today.this is a very serious issue and a safety concern. i read on online that it may be related to issues with the brake transmission shift interlock.
2014 dodge ram. consumer writes in regards to problems with ignition, lights and transmission. *ld the consumer stated the vehicle was parked on a hill when it began to roll backwards and crashed through a gate. the consumer grabbed the wheel, from standing outside the vehicle, directing the vehicle towards an embankment, where it landed. the vehicle dragged the consumer along the way. the emergency brake was on. the consumer stated the key falls out of the ignition, but the vehicle continues to run. the mileage would not appear on the instrument panel. the headlights were not adjustable. *js
Wasn't sure if this fell under power train or engine itself. 2014 ram 1500 3.6l engine. oil filter housing is plastic. noticed an oil leak upon changing oil. brought to dealer and hoped it fell under power train warranty. did not qualify so i'm out almost 1,000 for the repair. researching, this is a known common problem. dealer attributed it to being over tightened filter housing. well research shows this happens due to the temperature cycling over time. oil leaking onto the engine manifold creates a fire hazard under the proper conditions. manufacturer should put forward a recall to replace the housings or design one that is metal for an adequate replacement.
I have had several malfunction of the transmission in my vehicle since purchased. they started around a year after i purchased the vehicle and have averaged approximately one malfunction per year. the first three malfunctions were similar; a "hard" downshift or upshift while i was highway driving at highway speed and adjust according to traffic flow. i heard a loud popping noise and felt the jolt of the transmission changing. like when the vehicle slowed but the transmission didn't react and all the sudden a hard shift same on the upshift. the latest malfunction was different. i was in highway traffic when traffic slowed down. i tried to accelerate to keep up with traffic flow but the vehicle would not exceed the 45 mph. i could hear the engine revving up but it was like it was stuck in low gear. i pulled off the freeway and stopped and restarted the vehicle and it drove as normal. i have explained the malfunctions to the dealership on several occasions. they said they checked it out and it was normal. after the last failed attempt to get the problem ...
This has happened on a multitude of occasions. while driving the vehicle, the check engine light, the traction control light will both come on. at the same time as the lights the messages show up and say to service shifter knob, then right after that the service trailer brake system message shows up and will be the only message found in the messages folder. the check engine light and the traction control light stay on. when trying to get the traction control light to go out by pressing the traction control button, nothing happens. this is telling me that i do not have any traction control. this will become a major issue when it snows. each of these instances have happened while moving both on and off the highway and while at a stop. this has happened also while on the highway about seven months ago while on the highway in the snow.
Dangerous. transmission problem on slight uphill at speeds from 40-70 miles. suddenly the traction control off light and engine light comes on, truck gets stuck in a weird gear, gas pedal only works half way. you cannot speed up to save your life. this is just a 4 year old truck. absolutely unfoto buyers.
After the v08 update very bad lag from the pedal and gas mileage dropped very significantly.
The v08 emission recall has despite what the manufacturer claims decreased my mpg, increased turbo lag, made it unsafe to drive due to literally slower than acceptable throttle response, and daily diesel regeneration. all before this flash to the ecu there where no problems. but since it is a ticking time bomb just waiting for for me to get t-boned at an intersection for the delayed acceleration.
When in motion on a city or a highway the transmission does not downshift correctly and it sounds like if it is revving when not stepping on the gas.
Recall for emissions not performed correctly. engine light comes on all the time. warning flashes on dash : "engine will not restart in 200 mi service def see dealer." started at 5000 miles and has plagued the truck every since then. ram was supposed to fix and reimburse under recent recall and extended warranty settlement. i have documented, written, called, emailed, and faxed to the ram manufacturer. i get no response whatsoever. recall done on 7/11/19 and on 10/08/19 i still don't have it fixed. file to thick to up load.
2014 ram ecodiesel. had the emissions update done per the fca class action lawsuit requirements. after the update, my truck has an extremely dangerous turbo/throttle lag. this lag can last anywhere from 2-5 seconds. additionally, the truck was advertised as 29 mpg on the highway. after the update, i am sitting around 17 mpg. i have lodged a complaint with fca and am still waiting to hear back. this is no longer an emissions issue, this is a safety issue and i can guarantee you it will lead to numerous accidents and possibly death. a simple google search will show that this issue is not unique to my ecodiesel. almost every ram and jeep that had the emissions update is dealing with the same safety risks.
When the vehicle is in gear then stopped and placed in park but not shut off it will not go back into gear. this started the end of june 2019. it has occurred at least seven times. it has occurred in driveways, parking lots, and landscape and lumber yards. at the yards it blocked oncoming traffic.it happened when the vehicle was half way into our street from our driveway where vehicles had to drive around the truck. this could have resulted in injury the dodge dealer ran three checks on the truck and told us the problem never registers on their computer nor could they get the problem to replicate. after many complaints the dealership replaced the shifter controller. the problem occurred again within an hour after the attempted repair. we have to be careful where we drive the vehicle so we so not put ourselves in a dangerous situation. we could not be assure the vehicle would fo into gear when doing a three point turn. we have a video of this problem but i could not get it to copy.
After receiving the epa mandated emissions update known as aem (v08) i have been experiencing an unsafe amount of lag from the time the accelerator is pressed to the time the truck actually begins to accelerate. at times, i can count to 5 seconds before the truck begins to move forward. this is unacceptable and downright unsafe. fca is staying that the lag is as the software intended it to be. when the truck was purchased it was not at all like this, after being forced by the epa & the state of california to get this update my truck is now nearly inoperable due to safety concerns. i refuse to put my family in this vehicle as it in completely unpredictable and unreliable. please step up and forced fca to fix this terrible mistake they made. you may end up saving someone's life.
On 06/12/2019, i had the v08 recall (aem modification update) done on my 2014 ram 1500 ecodiesel. this recall was required as part of an emissions related lawsuit. fca advised that the updated software is not expected to change any of the vehicles attributes to include vehicle performance, driveability, and fuel economy. after having the recall work done, i have noticed a serious concern regarding the acceleration of the vehicle from a stop (especially when the engine is cold or not fully warmed up). when accelerating from a stop, there is a delay in the acceleration which i can best describe as feeling like "severe turbo lag." when trying to cross a busy intersection or trying to merge into traffic, if you try to accelerate quickly, the vehicle does not respond like it did prior to the recall work. after pushing the accelerator harder and getting through the lag in acceleration, the turbo finally kicks in and the vehicle accelerates quickly because you have to basically "floor it." i also noticed when driving up an incline and stopping at a stop sign, while continuing gradually up the incline the vehicle does not respond ...
