We have classified the 69 complaints from 2009 Nissan Murano about AIR BAGS into the following categories.
Air bag warning light started flashing and does not go off. dealer (lancaster nissan) tested the vehicle and stated that sensor or seat sensor could be bad. they were able to turn off warning light, but it started again the next time i drove the car. estimates to replace sensor ($1,500) and seat sensor ($4,500) seem extremely high. vehicle has only 39,000 miles and was purchased new. dealer stated there is no open recall despite research showing 100's of 2009 muranos with the same issue and a prior recall on earlier muranos and infiniti's - clearly the same manufacturing defect. have not taken an action to repair at this point,
Airbag warning light suddenly stayed on flashing. there has never been any accident. low miles and rarely a passenger in the car. nissan dealer checked and determined it was the passenger sensor. they replaced the sensor and light remained. they then said they had to replace the entire passenger seat bottom to fix the issue. ~$3,700 later and it is fixed.

The passenger seat air bag control quit working. the red light is on in the dash. i have been told that this vin number is not included in the recall. nissan has a recall nvtsa # 08v-521 and the campaign id for the 2009 murano number is z51. the problem with my car is the same as the recall. i only get the runaround from nissan about my problem. i can not use the car if i have a passenger. i need help for this problem.
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 nissan murano. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 08v066000 (air bags). the parts to do the repair were unavailable. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. carr nissan (3855 sw cedar hills blvd, beaverton, or 97005, (503) 643-8676) was contacted and confirmed that the parts were not available for the recall remedy. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue and was not able to confirm when the parts were to become available. the contact had not experienced a failure.

Takata recall. the dealership said that my car is not under recall but my air bag sensor light keeps flashing and my passenger side airbag sensor says that this if off. i have tried turning the car on and off, buckling the seatbelt as per instructions. light for sensor will not go off when driving, stationary, or idling.
Murano recall has been issued for other 2009 muranos for ocs sensor issue. airbag light was triggered (stays flashing after vehicle has been started stationary & in motion) & code b1032 came up at nissan dealer. i was informed that my vin wasn't included in recall, despite it being same trigger, year, make & model recalled. i requested info on how close in manufacturing to the recalled vehicles mine is & was informed that info isn't known. that info is tracked somewhere & that's how recalls are issued. to get this repaired would cost me over $2.500 (per estimate on record). how do i get this investigated so mine can be included as it is the same year, make, model & issue involved in recall?
The airs bags its off ,didnt work
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 nissan murano. while driving 40 mph, the brake pedal was depressed and traveled to the floorboard. as a result, the contact collided with another vehicle. the air bags did not deploy. a police report was not filed and there were no injuries sustained. the vehicle was taken to the dealer (larry miller nissan, 2400 west 104th ave, denver, co 80234) where it was diagnosed that a new brake reservoir cap and a different type of brake fluid were needed. the vehicle was at the dealer for repairs. the manufacturer was notified and stated that it was a safety issue that would be sent to a third party. the failure mileage was approximately 82,000.
Well lets start with the engine stalling and not being able to get on the highway cause the engine lacks the power to even move. the right passenger side air bag light keeps flasing no matter what it does'nt go off.there is a rattling noise coming from the rear right side under the carriage. the left rear tire it lobsided and when it rains the rear of the car feels like its on ice and sways side to side it's an accident waiting to happen the tire sensor light never goes off even if you inflate to proper range and dont get me started on the transmission slipping hope that some one in your company does something about these issues before someone gets seriously hurt you may end up in court fix them before some one gets hurt....all this in motion. street and highway. documentation yes the whole car is documentation.
My airbag light on the dash is flashing. indicating that the airbag system maybe faulty nissan wants $120. for a diagnostic test of the system. this car is a 2009 murano and only 47,000. miles no accident or anything to cause the light to go on. in all my years and cars i have never had a airbag light go on for no reason.
Passenger airbag light blinks constantly.
The passenger airbag light flashes constantly while the car is running and being driven. took it to a local nissan dealer who told me the entire bottom cushion would have to be replaced at a cost of $4000. it's the same problem other murano's are having, but my cars vin number wasn't on the recall list, so this would be an out of pocket expense. i was told they could turn the flashing indicator off, but the passenger airbag will not deploy if in an accident. nissan knows this is a problem with several 2009 murano's but refuses to address the problem by adding it to the recall list. it is unimaginable and unacceptable that nissan will allow the airbag light to be turned off knowing the airbag will not deploy properly and risk severe injury, or possible loss of life rather than make this a recall fix. also the car only has 58000 miles on it.
At 67000 miles the airbag light began flashing . took it to dealer for inspection, paid $100 for inspection and they found code b1018 for airbag control module failure and quoted 1449.32 +tax to correct the problem. spoke with nissan customer care and was assigned case no. 29877528 on 2-17-2018. on 2-20-2018 was contacted and told since out of warranty period, they would do nothing to correct the problem. i know there were recalls for this problem in the past, but they would not listen. the passenger side airbag will not deploy and this is a safety problem.
After having my 35 lb dog sit in the passenger seat the air bag light starts flashing i have had it checked out and reset several times. this seems to happen after the next time i drive the car not immediately. i was advised that it is the ocs sensors and if it happen again it should be replaced to the tune of $4,000. the dealer checked for a recall notice and i was told there was none. this is absolutely an unsafe condition for any passenger in my vehicle. everything is functioning for now, but i think this should be a nissan responsibility. there are only 54,500 miles on this car.
1) airbag light alarm for passenger seat goes on suddently after 80,000 miles. after dealer inspection, seems to be related to the occupant classification system (ocs) varistor located in the front passenger seat cushion, as mentioned in your ntb08-095 november 4, 2008 recall campaign. found it strange my vehicule vin is not associated to this complaint, but i have the problem. 2) alternator suddently died after 80,000 miles without warning, while driving on the highway. had time to pull on the side, but situation could have been dramatic. suddently vehicule reduced speed and went from 60mph to 10mph, then no more battery, so could not light the warning lights. very dangerous situation. problem have been reported for many murano different years, recalls were done for 2005 or 2008 murano but none for 2009. a $1300 bill at the nissan dealership. 3) ps: got airbag light alarm for passenger seat right after alternator problem
Air bag control unit/ocs system failure. according to recall #08v521000, there is a history with problems with my make & model of vehicle. i have been to the dealership to try to resolve this issue repeatedly and while they turn off the dashboard light illuminating the problem, it simply illuminates again in a few days. now they tell me i need to purchase a new seat cushion at a cost of almost $5,000. my vin is not showing up in the recall notice but this is exactly the problem that i am having with my car. i can provide a picture of the airbag malfunction light on the dashboard, if you need it.
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 nissan murano. the contact had to pump the brake pedal numerous times as it traveled to the floorboard. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the brake master cylinder needed to be replaced. the vehicle was taken to another independent mechanic who replaced the brake master cylinder. in addition, the air bag indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the occupant sensor unit failed. the vehicle was also taken to a dealer (tony nissan, 94-1299 ka uka blvd, waipahu, hi 96797, (808) 680-7150) for diagnostic testing. the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign numbers: 08v521000 (air bags, electrical system) and 08v066000 (air bags). the manufacturer was notified of the failures. the failure mileage was not available.
The air bag light is on for no reason. the brakes go to the floor every now and then for now reason when applying the brakes slowly. when is happens it takes a while to stop.
Even though my car is not registered in the current "campaign" (nissan's euphemism for a recall) nonetheless, my airbag light on the dash is flashing, indicating that the airbag system may be faulty. nissan refuses to fix it without a full diagnostic going over (about $100 fee) and does not seem to care that a passenger in my car could get killed if the airbag fails to deploy. my car is a 2009 murano with only 59,000 miles on it.
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 nissan murano. while driving approximately 15 mph, the brake pedal traveled to the floorboard when depressed. as a result, the contact rear ended the preceding vehicle. the air bags did not deploy. a police report was filed. the contact received injuries to the left arm and hand, which required medical attention. the contact drove home with the hazard lights on because the vehicle was only able to decelerate instead of coming to a full stop. once the contact arrived home, the vehicle stalled. the vehicle had not been repaired. the contact stated that nhtsa was conducting an investigation for the year, make, and model vehicle regarding the brakes failing; however, a recall had not been issued. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 103,000. *js
I am writing regarding a recent incident with nissan that had an active recall. it is for recall number 08v521000 for the 2009 nissan murano. i contacted nissan because my vehicle was having this exact issue in that the ocs control unit had an interruption in signal between the ocs and the air bag control unit. i contacted nissan letting them know my make and model was listed in this recall and that i was having this exact issue. they told me my vin number was not included and they would not pay for it to be fixed. i am pregnant and have a toddler so had i got into an accident, that is 3 lives that would have been at risk since my airbags would not have been deployed. after requesting it to be reviewed, nissan said they would pay half of the bill, leaving me to still pay $912.00 out of pocket. this is a safety issue, not a maintenance issue and is the exact problem and vehicle make & model that is explained in the recall. obviously there are other models that they missed when evaluating vin numbers and others are most likely having this same issue. nissan is refusing to pay the full amount. the nissan dealership fixing my vehicle was even fighting for me and said this should not randomly happen and agreed that nissan should pay the full amount as it was a safety issue not regular maintenance that should occur. i am extremely frustrated with nissan. if there is an active recall and you are having that exact problem with the exact make & model in the recall, it should be covered. and airbags should not just stop working for no reason without being in an accident. i have been told to reach out to you since you regulate these things. how can i submit a complaint against nissan and is there anything you can do to get involved in order to get the full amount paid?
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 nissan murano. the contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the air bag warning light illuminated continuously. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the passenger seat sensor and occupant classification system needed to be repaired. the vehicle was repaired but the failure continued. the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 08v521000 (air bags, electrical system). the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 71,425. the vin was not provided.
My vehicle air bag light came on took it to shop they will not fix it said the sensor in passenger seat needs replaced. i know there were recalls for this problem before but they tell me they only recalled certain 2009 murano's but looking online this seems to be a problem with all nissans. so i am wondering will there be a recall with this nissan problem.
Supplemental air bag warning light, after pushing the ignition switch to the on position, the supplemental air bag warning light illuminated links after that doesn't off. low tire pressure warning light after pushing the ignition switch to the on position, the low tire pressure warning light illuminated after that doesn't off.
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 nissan murano. the contact stated that the front passenger air bag warning indicator was flashing. the vehicle was taken to the dealer (geri lynn nissan, 1772 martin luther king blvd, houma, la 70360, (985) 219-1111) where it was diagnosed that the weight sensor and varistor needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign numbers: 08v521000 (air bags, electrical system) and 08v066000 (air bags); however, the contact felt that the vehicle was exhibiting failures related to one or both of the recall campaigns. the manufacturer also issued one tsb for the air bags and three tsbs for the electrical system. the manufacturer was notified of the failures and advised the contact to have the dealer diagnose and repair the vehicle. the failure mileage was not available. *tt consumer stated did not repair due to repair cost of $2,150.00. tech found code b108ocs. updated 10/12/18*jb
Passenger airbag no longer works. sensor light on dashboard is always on. sutherlin nissan says we are responsible for repair.
Front passenger seat airbag sensor is constantly going off and flashing on dashboard. mechanic states that when the light is active the airbag will not deploy in the event of an accident. nissan has refused to corret this problem even though airbag recalls are on the news daily. my vehicle is unsafe and i am limited to the amount of people or occassions i can use it without fear of a potential accident without proper airbag deployment
My car was t-bone hit from the passenger side while i was driving at 25 mph on a side road with no passengers (thank god). the party at fault broke a stop sign and resulted in total loss of my car. only the passenger side air bag deployed and protected no one. strangely, the driver side air bag did not deploy. as a result i hit the passenger window glass with the side of my head and got a concussion.
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 nissan murano. when the vehicle was started, the air bag light remained illuminated. the failure recurred several times. the vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was diagnosed that the ocs and tpms sensors needed to be replaced. the dealer also stated that the warranty expired and that there was no recall. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue, but supported the dealer's recommendation. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 88,000. updated 06/10/16*lj *cn

My husband was in dallas getting his passport and some man ran a stop sign hit a police office two other cars and my car that my husband was driving. the passenger airbags did not deploy to help and my father in law who was in the passenger front seat was injured.

The passenger air bag light and the main air bag indicator lights are both on our murano. we are seeing the exact same issues as in the recall for certain 2009 nissan muranos and our murano is barely outside the window of recalled muranos. the dealership says they can't help us since it was built barely outside the dates of the recalled muranos even though it is the exact same issue. plus nissan keeps having the same issues with different years of muranos, so it is pretty obvious they have a widespread problem with this.
Passenger side air bag "off" light is on. air bag warning light is blinking on and off. dealer says the passenger seat cushion has failed. nissan will not help as the car is out of warranty! the car had 30748 miles on it on 11/11/15 when the failure occurred, this happens moving or not and with passenger or not.
I have a 2009 nissan murano that in my opinion has a very dangerous safety flaw. a small sensor in the passenger seat has decided not to function properly for no apparent reason(the air bag sensor light on the dash just began to blink back on 9/6/15, i reset it several times but it just continued turning back on) that sensor now causes for neither airbag (passenger or drivers seat) to work in case of an accident. i took the car to the dealer on 10/17/15 and they gave me a quote that is $ 3568 plus labor for repair, i complained to nissan consumer affairs and all they could do is give a 50% discount for the repair. i feel that nissan should repair this as it is a great safety flaw of the vehicle, my vehicle is not safe in case of an accident as neither the driver or passenger airbag will function if i am in an accident.
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 nissan murano. the contact stated that while driving at 40 mph, the vehicle veered off the road into a ditch and went airborne before crashing into a pole. the passenger side and front air bags did not deploy. the contact mentioned that the air bag warning light was illuminated prior to the failure. the contact sustained neck and back injuries and the passenger sustained hip and arm injuries, which required medical attention. a police report was filed. the vehicle was towed to a towing storage lot. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 75,000.
Takata recall, airbag on passager side indcator light on, tire light and tire slow leak
Hit a deer going 35 mph and deployed both front airbags. i was the passenger when my airbag went off it hit my face and fractured my maxilla, broke off one tooth and made another loose enough it had to be pulled out also. split upper and lower lip both needing stitches. do to the damage sustained and the airbags being deployed my insurance company found the car unrepairable and a total loss.
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 nissan murano. upon starting the vehicle, the air bag warning indicator illuminated on the instrument panel. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the sensor in the passenger seat needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 121,000.
The air bag warning light came on and has been blinking since. i have researched the issue and find that this is common with the 2009 nissan murano. nissan refuses to fix the issue under recall. this is not covered with the warranty on the vehicle. most are caused by a sensor under the passenger seat and the entire seat must be replaced. the cost is between 2500 and 3000 dollars. this warning light blinking indicates the system will not work correctly should i get into an accident. please help murano owners get this fixed with out having to pay such outrageous prices. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 nissan murano. while driving 25 mph, another vehicle crashed into the front of the contact's vehicle. the air bags failed to deploy. the driver sustained face injuries, the front passenger who was pregnant sustained stomach injures, the fetus sustained a fracture on the leg, and the rear passenger sustained head injures. all passengers required medical attention. a police report was filed. the vehicle was not diagnosed, but was taken to an auto body repair center for body repairs. in addition, five months later while driving at 35 mph, the brake pedal was depressed, but the vehicle failed to stop. as a result, the contact switched into the right lane and another vehicle crashed into the rear passenger side door of the vehicle. the air bags failed to deploy. the driver sustained back injuries, the front passenger sustained back and cervical injuries and the rear passenger sustained head injuries. a police report was filed. all passengers required medical attention. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failures. the failure mileage was 109,000. ..updated 05/09/17 *bf updated 12/05/2017*cn
Dec 2014 took 2009 nissan murano to dealership. cracks started opening up on front panel of dash and on side where passenger airbag is. dealership told me i would have to contact nissan n.a. due to vehicle past it's warranty. called nissan n.a., they said they would contact dealership and call me back. dec 29th nissan called back, response " sorry can't do anything vehicle out of warranty" and the asst. service mgr. gave her the impression normal wear or sun damage caused the cracks. this was not a warranty issue nor did the service mgr. gave me the impression he thought it was sun damage. i asked her for a email address so i could send some photo's. she told me there was not an email available for consumers," the dealership was their eyes " no pictures were even taken by the dealership. nissan did not want to help or acknowledge the problem. on feb 10th wfla consumer investigator did a segment on toyota replacing cracking and sticky dashboards on various models. when they showed the video it showed a cut in the dashboard over the steering wheel exactly like mine. almost a photo copy. you could tell the dash is made out of the same material as mine. the segment went on to say nissan and ford have had the same complaints. nissan is aware of this! these cracks in my dash are getting worse. along with the cracks there is a protruding square where the passenger airbag is. what's next is my air bag going to deploy or my dash going to start getting sticky. ***refer to nhtsa complaint # 10650129 dated 10-26-2014. ** nissan should be held accountable for fixing these dashboards. there is no reason a consumer was denied an email address to send photos so they could see for themselves. nissan needs to see these pictures if any thing to show who ever manufactured these dashboards the defect. if anyone else is having the same dashboard issues, please post!! *tr
Air bags light keep stay on, call nissan manufacturer and they won't do the recall for the air bag. *tr
My 2009 murano has had an ongoing problem with the passenger side airbag. my passenger airbag shuts off and shuts down the whole airbag system in my car. the dealership has explained to me that when the airbag lights are flashing that i have no airbag protection. i have brought my vehicle back to the dealer a couple of times to have them look at it. they said that they were able to turn off the flashing airbag light each time but they said that they wouldn't be able to do it anymore. they told me that there is a problem with the passenger seat sensor and passenger side airbag. it does not recognize that there is someone sitting in the seat and does not activate. they said that i would need to replace both at a cost of $5000 and that there was a problem with the sensor and the airbag. i contacted nissan and was told that its not under warranty and that there is nothing that they could do for me. i would just have to replace it. i have researched other passenger side airbag problems and recalled airbags found that each of the situations were similar to mine. i purchased this 2009 murano after i was involved in an accident with my other 2006 nissan murano. the airbags in the 2006 murano worked and my family and i were able to walk away with only a few scratches because the airbags worked. now i have a vehicle that may or may not have a working airbag system. i worry each time i get into the vehicle. will my airbags deploy or not? the situation needs to be addressed. listening and reading about other airbag recalls makes me believe that my vehicle is experiencing the same problems. what does nissan want to happen? should i end up in a collision and have no airbags on the passenger side and someone dies before they look at this airbag situation? this vehicle with this ongoing problem is not worth its fair market value i'm facing a significant loss at no fault of mine.
I have less than 61,000 miles on my 09 murano. i need to know why when i list my vin, there are no recalls, yet if i search make, model, and yr.,without vin, three are listed. three which i have had all happen air bags, air bags and electrical system, and tpms (tire pressure monitoring system), says tpms was in certain states. how can you specify this recall to those states? people move, travel to those states, and yes, we use road salt here. my tpms came on this past july and will not go off. but, seems your recall may not apply in the south. i also, in july 2014, had all 4 motor mounts replaced. nissan said all 4 would need replacing soon after hearing a knocking when ever i started off (like at red light or stop sign). motor could fall out. nissan was going to charge me $800.00 for one (all i could afford at one time). a friend took it to a well known reputable auto store and they replaced all 4 for $900.00. now nissan would not be over charging that much, would they? yea, right. affected parts? seems there are a lot of the 153 complaints filed refer to motor mounts. have any motors fallen out to cause accident? *tr
