We have classified the 70 complaints from 2009 Nissan Murano about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
Total loss of electrical power while driving. engine dies lights go out vehicle rolls to a stop. put vehicle in park and electrical power return with no further action. please look in to this as my wife is now scared to drive her car at all. 2 occurrences in the past 2 weeks. no recalls shown but other years of this vehicle show same complaint. of this
The vehicle will shut off when driving without any warning. it will go into limp mode or completely die when on a major highway. lights will start flashing and power steering will go out.
I was driving down the highway. there were no warning lights on my dashboard aside from the tpms light. there was a loud pop noise, so i pulled over to check it out. within 30 seconds smoke came from under the hood and quickly turned from white to black. then the vehicle caught on fire. it was completely burned with nothing but the trunk left in tact.
I have a repeated electrical issue with my car. at first, i thought my issue was diagnosed improperly but i was recently on the nhtsa page and found over 20 complaints that expressed the same exact issue i have been having. that issue being the fact that my car, when in motion will completely shut off on me and go into neutral. this will happen without any warning and for me has happened both times on the highway while going 75 mph. once the car stalls out, the power steering will also go out in about 30 seconds and the engine will completely shut off at that time. therefore, you have about 30 seconds to roll your car to a safe spot in order to avoid a crash. there is no turning the car off and then back on, as when you try to do so all of the dash lights will come on and the engine will not start back up as the battery is dead or close to it. if you are lucky you can get jumped but the battery becomes so drained that it cannot even hold a charge for a miles worth of power. both times i have had to have my murano towed into a shop. the first time this issue occurred i was told i need my battery replaced as it was dead and that was the cause of my engine failure. this sounded strange to me at the time, as the battery that i had was a little less than a year old but i was just wanting to pickup a working car and put this behind me. my car worked properly for 48 days before i again, had the same exact issue occur to me, while again traveling on the highway going 75 mph. this time, there was not adequate space on the highway to pull over and i had to call 911 in order to avoid a crash. again, i had my car towed and was now told it was an issue with the alternator, which i then had replaced. i am now worried this issue will reoccur as people are stating they have had their alternator replaced 2 and 3 times and are still being put in these scary, engine failure situations
Charging system problems, have replaced alternater and battery, still have problems the car will drive for 20 min and then start acting up like lose of power and not go anywere then just die at worst time possible, went through the whole thing bunch of times, did a test of charging it will read 14 volts but then within 20 min it will quit charging and go to 12.3 and just keep going down until dead. it sucks nobody has a solution that i can find but alot of same issues out there exact same but no fixes what happening with this
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 nissan murano. when the vehicle accelerated, there was a loss of power and a delay at times before finally gaining speed. in other instances, the vehicle had a drastic reduction in speed. the alternator assembly was replaced more than twice, but the failure continued. the vehicle was excluded from nhtsa campaign number: 05v319000 (electrical system); however, the vehicle exhibited the same failure as the recall campaign. moses nissan (300 maccorkle ave, st albans, wv 25177, (304) 727-2921) was notified of the failure. in addition, the vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign number: 18v916000 (service brakes, hydraulic), but a repair appointment had not been scheduled. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was not available.
On a main road parked off of a highway, car battery and brake light started flickering, suddenly as i tried to pull onto main road and car randomly forcefully stopped as if went to neutral wouldn't accelerate in any gear. i had to roll the car back into a parking spot quick as possible as there was oncoming traffic. i then turned car off then on and more lights on the dash illuminated, abs, brake, battery, and trackion control as well. i turned the car off to then try restarting again and wouldn't do anything as, completely dead. had to leave the car overnight parked til the following day for a tow since it never started back up. waiting on what caused this problem, definitely unsafe, could have caused a accident due to going into a neutral like mode as driving onto a main road and near a highway
Car stopped in the middle of the highway and would not start unless it was jumped. it has done this several time and is very dangerous. it appears to be the alternator. i have seen man forums on this same situation for the 2009 nissan murano and i supprised to see that nothing has been done.
While driving vehicle lost power, when trying to accelerate no power and noticed drop in rpm. also battery and brake lights flickering. was able to get car home however a week later with my children in the car it happened again only this time it completely died, after having it towed home, after jump start vehicle started right up without hesitation, and ran fine. system checks good and battery is new less than 60 days. very dangerous as there is not warning to sudden loss of power and stalling. vehicle lights radiio etc all still work but vehicle won't start. nissan recalled earlier models alternator for same symptoms however not my vehicle year. same set up location as the 03-07 models same problems just no recall on 09 models. car has power lights radio etc just looses ability to accelerate and if engine stalls then requires boosting to be started again. runs fine after no warning lights and then without warning happens again.
My 2009 nissan murano lost power all of the sudden while deiving, took it to the locsl shop and i was told it was the alternator, proceed to replace it for a new one and yet it happened again, i have been looking in several forums and still have no clue about what it could be, checked new alternator and battery and they are working 'properly' please help
Two major problems i've had with my murano are the brakes loosing pressure causing me not to be able to brake in time, caused an accident on a roundabout. the second is the steering wheel lock column going out, causing my not to be able to start the vehicle
Vehicle shuts down completely with no warning as if it is being controlled by another power source. had battery checked and alternator replaced twice. also, had a diagnosis test performed multiple times. it yields no problems. the battery/brake light may come on prior to shut down. if it does, three seconds later vehicle is completely dead. usually the vehicle is in motion - just driving on a roadway. once shut down, you cannot move the vehicle and has to be towed.
The doors do not open inside or outside also the electric power doors sometimes work and sometimes don't
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 nissan murano. the contact stated that the vehicle lost power and stalled without warning several times. various unknown warning indicators and gauges flickered each time the failure occurred. the dealer (sutherlin nissan of fort pierce, 4815 s us-1, fort pierce, fl 34982, (772) 924-2668) kept the vehicle for diagnostic testing for over a month, but was unable to duplicate the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was not available.
My nissan murano 2009 died as i was driving on expressway, very scary , everything just stopped , says battery and alternator , replace twice because it happened yet again within a cpl of days, so now the brake light and battery light are on , on my dashboard and 3 weeks without my car and no idea ! i have been on numerous forums with no solution but yet the same complaint , is nissan going to fix this ,
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 nissan murano. the contact had to pump the brake pedal numerous times as it traveled to the floorboard. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the brake master cylinder needed to be replaced. the vehicle was taken to another independent mechanic who replaced the brake master cylinder. in addition, the air bag indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the occupant sensor unit failed. the vehicle was also taken to a dealer (tony nissan, 94-1299 ka uka blvd, waipahu, hi 96797, (808) 680-7150) for diagnostic testing. the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign numbers: 08v521000 (air bags, electrical system) and 08v066000 (air bags). the manufacturer was notified of the failures. the failure mileage was not available.
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 nissan murano. the contact stated that the alternator failed and the vehicle lost power numerous times while driving. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer, but was taken to an unknown repair center where it was diagnosed that the alternator failed. the alternator was replaced several times, but the failure was not corrected. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 114,000.
Even though my car is not registered in the current "campaign" (nissan's euphemism for a recall) nonetheless, my airbag light on the dash is flashing, indicating that the airbag system may be faulty. nissan refuses to fix it without a full diagnostic going over (about $100 fee) and does not seem to care that a passenger in my car could get killed if the airbag fails to deploy. my car is a 2009 murano with only 59,000 miles on it.
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 nissan murano. the contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the air bag warning light illuminated continuously. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the passenger seat sensor and occupant classification system needed to be repaired. the vehicle was repaired but the failure continued. the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 08v521000 (air bags, electrical system). the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 71,425. the vin was not provided.
Within a period of less than a month, all 4 of the electronic door locks on all 4 doors of my nissan murano s have failed. initially, the problem was isolated to just 1 or 2 doors, and sometimes it would vary as to whether the door would lock or unlock when either pressing the remote entry key fob or using the interior door unlock button. now, no door will lock/unlock at all. they can only be manually unlocked by pressing the rocker switch at the door. while driving the car, i am unable to securely lock all 4 doors. when i exit the vehicle, and manually lock the doors, upon returning, i am unable to unlock the doors without first using the key in the drivers door (the only 1 with a key lock), and then entering the vehicle, and manually unlocking the other 3 doors. this is a safety hazard with small children, as i can not leave them in the parking lot by themselves for me to enter the vehicle to get their door unlocked. *tr
I own a nissan murano 2009, there is a problem with the electrical system: alternator/generator/regulator. the charger warning and brake warning lamps will immediately come on and the batter will begin to discharge. after a short time, the engine will go into a "fall safe" condition which will limit vehicle speed. the engine will stop running which could result in a crash. the only way to move the vehicle is to have it towed.
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 nissan murano. the contact stated that the front passenger air bag warning indicator was flashing. the vehicle was taken to the dealer (geri lynn nissan, 1772 martin luther king blvd, houma, la 70360, (985) 219-1111) where it was diagnosed that the weight sensor and varistor needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign numbers: 08v521000 (air bags, electrical system) and 08v066000 (air bags); however, the contact felt that the vehicle was exhibiting failures related to one or both of the recall campaigns. the manufacturer also issued one tsb for the air bags and three tsbs for the electrical system. the manufacturer was notified of the failures and advised the contact to have the dealer diagnose and repair the vehicle. the failure mileage was not available. *tt consumer stated did not repair due to repair cost of $2,150.00. tech found code b108ocs. updated 10/12/18*jb
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 nissan murano. the contact stated that the electrical system failed. the ignition switch emitted a beeping sound while starting the engine, and the beeping sound also emitted while closing the driver's door. the contact also stated that the air conditioning system was defective and emitted hot air. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who performed diagnostic testing and stated that the electrical system was defective. the contact also took the vehicle to a specialized electrical mechanic who confirmed that the electrical system was defective; however; it was not specified where the electrical failure initiated. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 73,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 nissan murano. while the vehicle was being inspected, the air bag warning light illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the osc sensor needed to be replaced. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 08v521000 (air bags, electrical system). the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was unknown.
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 nissan murano. while driving approximately 60 mph, the battery charging warning sensor indicator suddenly illuminated and the vehicle later shut off. in addition, while operating the vehicle, the pressure monitoring system sensor indicator illuminated although the air pressure in the tires was as recommended. the cause of the failures was not diagnosed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failures. the failure mileage was 100,000.
1-10-2016 between 7:00 and 7:30 i was on my way home, car in motion on a busy city street. it was dark outside and snowing, thus slick roads. brake and battery light came on, car began to lose power. barely moved and very quickly all electrrical components went dead. stuck in the middle lane at an intersection, i turned on my hazards in fear of being rear ended. my hazards fairly quickly got dimmer and dimmer. called 911 and asked to have a patrol car park behind me with lights on until my husband could get there to try to jump me. car would not srart. windshield wipers were on doing there own thing. could not shut them off. eventually they too died. could not pull over due to heavy traffic and car moved to slow when issue began. patrol car did come and parked behind me with lights on in order to prevent an accident. husband came and was able to jump start vehicle. issue also happened while leaving a parking lot, car in motion. husband jump started car. also happened while taking child to school, put car in neutral and accelerated and car then got power back while in motion on city street. nissan tech said nissan considers this an inconvenience. i was scared ob being killed. also, my passenger air bag indicator light is on stating it is off. has been on since issue began. taking to shop to be repaired today, believe the issue is the alternator but not 100% sure. will keep all receipts and other records obtained.
I was running 40 mph when i saw the "brake" and "battery" indicator lights appear. after less than 1/2 mile and while turning right to enter the freeway entrance, the car just stopped running despite pressing on the gas pedal. i tried turning on the ignition again but nothing happened. i turned on the hazard lights but even they stopped working after a few minutes. i was situated right where cars would turn to get to the freeway entrance. it was obviously an unsafe place for my car to get stalled since cars are turning right and accelerating to go up and to the right to get onto the 680 south freeway (automall entrance). it was actually a good thing that there was some other car that broke down close to my location. apparently some other driver had called the fremont police and, luckily, 2 police cars were deployed so 1 ended up staying behind my car to kinda block the other cars from hitting mine. the police waited until my husband could get to me and jumpstart my car. it took a couple of tries and after my car started we took it to premier nissan automall, got a new battery installed, & drove to work. the following day, while running at 60mph on the 680 s freeway, the "brake" & "battery" indicator lights came on again. i was praying to get to my destination as i was so scared that my car would stop again and it was more dangerous this time around as i was on the freeway. good thing i got to work but, after reading other murano 09 owners' reports on failing alternators, i knew that this is a safety issue that should be looked into by the nhtsa. the premier nissan would not even check if the new battery that we bought was charging properly. they said there's a different fee for that. i think this alternator issue is not just for the earlier muranos but also on the newer models, inluding the 2009 model.
Car will not start and does not turn over. tried battery, different fob, new fob batteries, rolling vehicle, tries starting in neutral, etc. no results. feels like steering wheel is not in locked position
While driving the automobile made a low buzzing sound and immediately stopped moving. all power was lost. i was not able to steer the automobile, the dashboard lights and radio still on and working. i engaged the accelerator once and the auto accelerated and all power was lost again, this time completely. i had it towed to my regular nissan dealership for diagnosis and repair. diagnosis: battery needs to be replaced. the battery was replaced and i drove the car home and to work the next day. while on my way from work, the exact problem occurred again. i had it towed to autonation nissan again and as i type this complaint the dealership is trying to arrive at the proper diagnosis. i am all of a sudden in fear for my life, had i been on the expressway (i-95, sr-826, fl turnpike, etc. i could have been killed with these two sudden stops if i had been rear-ended. i am the only driver of this automobile. it is in otherwise excellent condition. i have never had this problem before. only constant issues with "tire sensors" even though i have had them replaced.
Takata recall, airbag on passager side indcator light on, tire light and tire slow leak
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 nissan murano. upon starting the vehicle, the air bag warning indicator illuminated on the instrument panel. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the sensor in the passenger seat needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 121,000.
The front passenger door locks intermittently. when this happens, the lock does not respond to the lock buttons (either driver side or passenger), key fob, or manual lever creating a dangerous situation in the event of accident. this could create a situation of death by burning.
The driver side door will not lock manually or with the remote. the passenger side door on the driver side does not lock 75% of the times. *tr
Nissan refuses to recognize a known problem in the nissan rogue in it's big brother the nissan murano. the door actuator solenoid goes out and locks people into or out of their car, where the remote, key, door handle or crowbar cannot open the door causing a potentially fatal safety issue. if a passenger is unable to leave the vehicle in an emergency it could result in fatalities. i brought it to the dealership who offered to break my door panel to assess the issue, a $300+ expense to me, not to mention the labor breaking my door panel. once they were able to get into my door, they determined it was the actuator solenoid, which is a know rogue service order problem, and told me that would be an additional $575 to replace. i had started a case with nissan usa corporation regarding this, their response, "we'll see what we can do to help." they did nothing. disappointing. *tr
Passenger door locked shut. cannot open from the outside or the inside. pregnant passenger had to climb over center counsel to get out of the vehicle. once i googled the issue, the 2008-2009 nissan rogue & muranos have this issue, a service order was created for the rogue, but not the murano. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 nissan murano. while driving at unknown speeds, the rear seat warmers were activated. as a result, a hole was burned through the seats and all the warning lights illuminated. the contact stated that a three year old child was seated in a safety seat at the time of the failure, but there were no injuries reported. a police and a fire report were not filed. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 51,000.
Dear sir or madam, in 2009 i bought new nissan murano sl 2009 from mossy nissan dealership in houston, texas. to finance my purchase, i also bought extended car warranty for 6 years total (to cover another 3 years beyond 3 years of factory warranty). this extended warranty (nissan security+ plus gold preferred package with >2,000 parts being protected) was advertised as a best available option on the market. all these years since my purchase i took very good care of my car, records are available at mossy nissan. on 06nov2014 mossy nissan service center diagnosed internal device failure responsible for airbags deploy and informed me that, to their surprise, this module is not covered by my current warranty. this part is listed as a cushion & adjuster module, part # 873a2-1av2a. reading from the nissan tool scanner: ********dtc b1018 ocs sensor unit failure******** estimated costs for replacement were approximated at 3,500$ out of pocket. i have contacted north america nissan (1-800-nissan1) and case # [xxx] was filed for investigations. north america nissan has contacted me back on 17nov2014 and informed me that they cannot offer any help or assistance regarding replacement. na nissan also refused to finance amount of 3,500$ over 6-12 months which i agreed to pay in monthly payments. nissan security+ plus gold preferred package has >2,000 parts being protected including those for fun and entertainment (like radio, cd player, even antenna etc.) but not for the module responsible for life-saving airbags deployment. i have found this unacceptable. the false advertisement of the package is deceptive stating ?ultimate in peace of mind protection??not for essential safety parts though? can you help? can you advise on next reasonable steps? thank you in advance, [xxx] [xxx]@yahoo.com cell: [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).' *jb
All four door lock actuators have failed twice on my 2009 nissan murano. the first time it happened nissan recognized that it was a factory issue, but now that it has happened again they do not want to fix it even though it is clearly a serious safety issue. i have researched this and it is happening at a high frequency for other nissan owners. this should be a recall issue.
The issue with my nissan murano is the lock actuator beginning to go out. it started in may when the key fob began not working. we started having to unlock the vehicle with the key and then unlock the other doors with the button on the door. this was fine until the lock on the door began to fail. it works occasionally but not all the time. this is my wife's car and we have one child and another on the way, and she will be using this vehicle to transport two kids while i'm at work. it's a safety issue because during inclement weather my wife can't put our baby on the ground to unlock all the doors after the actuator completely fails. not only for that reason is it a safety hazard but just because a fire hasn't occurred yet because of this electrical issue doesn't mean that one will not happen. as a father this is something i have to be concerned with. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 nissan murano. while driving approximately 40 mph, the brake pedal extended to the floorboard when attempting to stop the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who examined the brakes and replaced the brake pads, but the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed that a computer failure caused the brakes to fail. the vehicle was repaired and the failure was remedied. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 80,000.
We were driving and the car lost speed. we had the car towed to the nissan dealer and they diagnosed that the battery had failed. this was the second new battery. then, the car ran until the battery went dead and again the car stopped on the road in traffic without warning. again the car was towed to the nissan dealer and this time the problem was diagnosed as a bad alternator. questions bought up that the 2008 nissan muranos had a campaign to replace faulty alternators but not the 2009. problem is that without warning light on the dash that there is a problem with the charging system, the car battery goes dead and the car stops while driving. the risk of catastrophic accident is extreme. *tr
Car would not start, everything work in the car, but it would start, put a new battery in the car and it work. a couple of days went by (car started every time) one day car did the same thing got another battery for it and car started and ran, 3rd time was down town the car would not run it started but would not move. got it home finally started the car the next day cause i thought maybe it was the security on why it wouldn't drive. i started the car to let it warm up, went out 10 min. later and the car was not running. got another battery car started took it to the local cenex they check the car and said the alternator was not working. they did a test, when i would turn my lights on and heat the battery was draining. my son charged the last battery that was in my car and it took the charge and still is, so 3 battery cant be bad. called nissan to see about the recall on my nissan, no my car was not, i called nissan and they would not put my car on the list. i bought the car used and not sure where it came from my car is doing the same thing everyone is complaining about, if the alternator is bad cover it..plus the closes nissan dealer is 3 to 4 hours away. *tr
Radio volume and tuning controls malfunction not allowing accurate control of volume. trying to adjust the volume sometimes results in the volume level going to maximum volume on its own, startling the driver and causing a distraction while trying to readjust the volume to normal. this causes distracted driving and possible hearing damage. this happens any time the radio is on. it has happened while driving on suburban streets, on the highway and on city streets. it has happened multiple times over the past 2-3 years.
Unable to open driver's and passengers front door. was finally able to open passenger front door still unable to open driver's. if you want to drive car at this point must climb over seat. *tr
Automatic door locks on all four doors malfunctioned, not autolocking or unlocking with smart key, or door handle button. passenger side is intermittent, so it is uncertain when door is locked or not and i cannot get my child out of the car from the outside without someone else being inside to manually unlock the back doors. this is an emergency safety issue and requires recall. *tr
The vehicle is registered in my daughters name. the nissan dealership stated that there was a short in the alternator and the battery had completely burnt out due to it. that put the murano into the "fail safe" mode. this occurred at a very dangerous intersection, leaving my daughter stranded in the #2 lane and there was not a shoulder available. after researching murano's i found that it is just like what happen to the 2005 murano's that had to recalled. after writing and calling nissan, they refused to help with the matter. the nhtsa needs to push nissan for a recall. *tr
Both fobs (car keys) went bad on my 2009 nissan murano, unable to lock and open doors using the fob. i had to remove the key from the fob to unlock the doors. at night this was a safety issue as i had to struggle to take the key out of the case in the dark. replaced batteries in the fob and did not resolve the issue. on january 22, 2014 i mailed a letter to nissan of america asking for reimbursement of the new fob i had to purchase. nissan was unable to offer financial assistance with the replacement of the fob as the vehicle being outside of the new vehicle limited warranty. as i expressed my concern to nissan that a car key should never have to be replaced. these fobs are manufacturing defects i understand replacing a battery but not the entire fob. the cost of one fob was $239.61. *tr
The driver door will not lock or un-lock using the key fob. this is a safety issue because they no longer will lock automatically. *tr
Liftgate will not open from outside, regardless of method used. the driver's button, the fob, and the button on the liftgate do nothing. in the event of an emergency, the liftgate cannot be used as a means of entry or exit of the vehicle. *tr
Radio (and) climate system) knobs do not work properly. radio sometimes goes to full volume without any human intervention startling the driver and diverting attention from the road to try to control the radio volume. this happens at random times while driving on all kinds of roads at various times. date listed below is not accurate. this is a continuous and ongoing problem. it happens at random times and dates. it started sometime in 2013 or 2014.
