Problems with 2013 Nissan Altima AIR BAGS

On average, the 2013 Nissan Altima starts to “feel” problems with the AIR BAGS and its various aspects after 27 278 miles.

Recently reported AIR BAGS problems on 2013 Nissan Altima

Tl* the contact owned a 2013 nissan altima. the contact stated while driving approximately 45 mph, the contact rear ended another vehicle. as a result the air bags failed to deploy and no warning lights illuminated. the contact stated the police was on scene. however, no police report was filed. the contact stated she was transported by the ambulance to the hospital for back and neck injuries. the vehicle was towed to a tow lot where it was deemed a total lost. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by a dealer or independent mechanic. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. however, offered no assistance. the approximate failure mileage was 98,000. *dt*jb

The occupant classification system sensor was re-programmed years ago during the recall and now it is not recognizing when people sit in the passenger seat no matter the vehicle condition (stationary, in motion, etc). not sure if it just a failure with my part or something else, but it is concerning.

The passenger airbag dah light indicated that the airbag was "off" while an adult was occupying the passenger seat. i took the vehicle to a nissan dealership who determined that 2 airbag modules were deflective, not working and needed to be replaced at my expense. i contacted nissan usa, franklin, tn and explained the problem. consumer affairs department said there was not a campaign or recall for this problem but would look in to it for a possible "goodwill" coverage. after contacting the dealership that inspected the car, nissan offered to cover 60% of the cost. this may a good "goodwill" gesture, but i can only imagine the possible catastrophic bodily injury that could have occurred in an accident if i hadn't noticed this problem. these are not moving parts. i find it hard to believe that there is no warning light or indicator for this failure. how many other altimas could be affected by this problem?10/27/2019

Randomly my airbag light came on. but no airbags ever deployed. also i beliveve my years transmission has a recall on it. every now and again it downshifts while i am accelerating on the highway and it terrifies me. i would appreciate feeling safe in my investment

The passenger front air bag sensor has failed. the air bag is always off with a red warning on the console, regardless if there is someone in the passenger or not. other altima's of that model year have had recalls issued for this problem. my car is not on the recall list. you can't imagine how much nissan wants to replace the sensor.

I had recieved a notice for recall on the passenger air bag sensor in seat was not registered to someone sitting in seat. took car to dealership to repair and it still does not register an occupant. so now it stays on and so does the driver warning sensor light. when it register a body both lights go off. puzzled. please advise. attached is a picture of the problem at hand.

I have had the following issues with the nissan altima: air bag sensor issues sometimes sensor malfunctions (looked at 3 x, not fixed), rear view camera sometimes does not work (looked at 3 x, not fixed), transmission cvt issues sometimes jumps into gear (looked at 3 x, not fixed), seat belt sometimes locks up (looked at 1 x, not fixed). issues happen while in motion or starting.

Takata recall (for one problem) airbag light came on - took in and they said the switch under passenger seat had become disconnected - fixed by nissan dealership within two days, airbag light back on - took in and they were getting codes for driver seat airbag - nissan recommended replacing air bag diagnostic unit. within another two days of this repair, the air bag diagnostic unit giving same code. now, recommending replacing driver seat airbag. dealership indicates that while these error codes are firing, the airbag system would not go off in an accident.

Airbag light stays on. does not register that driver or passenger are seating in the seats to engage the airbags. no matter how heavy the occupants are the air bag light does not go off.

The passenger airbag light came on a few months ago. i brought it to the nissan dealership and was told it was a loose wire. paid $100 on my deductible for the extended warranty. the light came back on a few weeks ago. now when i take it in they tell me they have to replace one or two sensors each costing $1000 that is not covered up the extended warranty. there seems to be dozens of people with this same car having this same issue. i don't feel safe driving the car but i also don't want to put $2000 into a 2013 car.

Passenger light airbag is never detected. (been on going for a couple of years) engine light stays on (for about 3 months) seatbelt airbag (3 months) will not go out. there is never a recall and a problem is never found by mechanic. can get the engine light off for a little while, but comes back on usually within a week.

Airbag light has been coming on for almost a year. reported to dealership 3 times. first visit to dealership it was a code issue. second time serviced it was unplugged under the seat, cost $142.00. a week later it came on again and dealership reports the entire driver's seat airbag needs to be replace at the tune of $1900. extended warranty doesn't cover it

The air bag light will not go off and i cant get an inspection sticker.

No accident or any work, driver side airbag light remained on. reset not working. ac compressor also gives up. 150k.

I took my car to the dealer to have them see why the airbag lights stay on. the seat belts were on and they just stayed on. the driver side would sometimes go off but the passenger side stayed on even when driving the vehicle. i was told that they cleared an error code but no guarantee that it will not reoccur and that this has nothing to do with the recall on the vehicle and if it happens again i will have to come out of my pocket for $1000 or so dollars even though i a extended warranty on it that somehow doesn't cover. i feel as though the issue was not fixed the first time and they did the bare minimum and passed the rest on to the customer. i am horrified at all the stories i am reading on the internet with others having the same issues, i have around 40000 miles on my car now so you see i don't do alot of hard traveling but want to know my vehicle is safe to drive.

Driver air bag indicator light is on.

My supplemental air bag light came on 7 - 10 days ago and has remained on. visited nissan service on 05/17 and was told diagnostic tests revealed 3 codes indicated further work was needed. the first was to replace the diagnostic unit. second replace ocs modules 7 both sensors. i have an extended warranty which supposedly does not include air bags. my concern is tis actually is or should be a recall. my quoted price to fix airbags/codes is greater than $1500.

Vehicle air bag system fault light is illuminated and the dealer determined the driver side air bag module to be shorted out and therefore requires replacement. the dealer advised that the air bag system is now deactivated due to the fault. module was not currently in stock and unable to be replaced at time of service.

Air bag lite keeps going off was rekey by nissan dealer want me to pay for airbag module $3700 nissan states they would pay half month ago, this is a defective part this is not acceptable, i am a disabled veteran now power as of 3/29/19 is going out after 98,000 cvt trans many consumer complains filed for defective transmissions

Their has been many complains on this cvt transmission breaking down between 62,000 miles and 99000 miles it is defective nissan will do nothing and will not acknowledge defective transmission or powertrain and will not pay to replace any it's a major problem and safety, i am a disabled veteran and was stranded many other consumers have experienced the same and also problems with airbags modules

The airbag light for the passenger side remains off regardless of the weight of the passenger in the seat, this has been an ongoing issue for 3 years.. multiple trips to the dealer (at at $155.00 per diagonstic) without a resolution. the prior the dealer stated was due to a low battery. a new battery was installed with the same results. research on the internet shows multiple complaints with this issue. the car will not pass virginia inspection and should be deemed unsafe until there is a resolution.

We have received several recall notices involving our nissan altima 2013 involving the takata airbags. the recalls have not consisted of anything significant. throughout the process of these recalls (i believe 2 or 3) our airbag light on dashboard as well as on the center console has intermittently come on and off. we have taken our nissan to a local nissan approved dealer for all of our reviews/repairs. approximately 6 months ago we again took our vehicle and the dealership indicated the light was on due to our car battery being low. this was not the case. my husband used a reader and the car's battery was perfectly fine. just recently on tuesday we again took our car in because the airbag light has not turned off. they have indicated that our side airbag is not working, therefore all of the airbags are off and not properly working. the estimated repair for this is $1500 (not including tax). this issue with airbags has been an ongoing issue. nissan has not made any efforts to fix this problem other than a band-aid recall. the airbags have never been deployed. finally, i received a class action notification that this vehicle is listed as a eligible member of this class action. www.autoairbagsettlement.com. we have also called nissan directly and were assigned a case number - 34595466, however no one has provided us with any information. the work on this vehicle is presently being done and will be ready on friday, however we do not have the money to pay for this repair and will be without a vehicle. thank you for any assistance you can provide.

The airbag light stays on all the time

My air bag light is always off and warning light is on in the dash

My airbag light the one that says my airbags are not on keeps coming on. have taken it to nissian dealership to get it reset for $70 but it came back on again. i am not paying $70 again. there has to to be a reason it keeps coming on.

When some one sits in the passenger seat the seat belt notification ding does not come on and it also says the air bag is turned off. just recently purchased no accidents reported to my knowledge.

Takata recall. one recall performed, second airbag light shows on dash soon after first airbag replaced. diagnostics on november 30 shows all electronics problems with driver side airbag. cost estimated minimum from $651+ tax to $3427.92+ tax. this failure is not due to misuse. it is a recall problem. see attached diagnostics and repair estimate attached. request this be replaced under recall.

The vehicle's passenger airbag sensors do not detect when a passenger is occupying the passenger seat and remains in off position with a red light on the dash board. (this vehicle was recalled in 2016 and repaired already.)

Seatbealt light is on when no one is one is seated there. had to take the car to dealership and after charging me $154.99 they recalibrated light and performed zero point calibration. i have the invoice if needed. why do we have to pay for safety issue?

Within the last month (october 2018) my airbag indicator light on the dashboard has come on and stays on constantly. this indicates that the airbag may not deploy in a crash, and could possibly mean the difference between life and death. the light came on with no warning, the vehicle has not been in an accident of any kind. this has to be a malfunction.

Takata recall. brought my car into the nissan dealership in buena park california to deal with the airbag recall. i brought my car in with the air bag light not on and after the dealership worked on the car i received my car with the light on. i explained that the light was never on that they should fix the problem. steve let me know there's nothing they can do claiming there was a previous problem and now they are trying to charge a fee.

My "vehicle was previously recalled to reprogram front passenger occupant classification system (ocs) electronic control unit (ecu). " i took my car in for the recall to have it taken care of, but now i'm still having issues with the ocs. currently, the driver side airbag light is on, indicating that it is not functioning properly. in addition, while the car was in motion and i was sitting in the passenger seat, the passenger side airbag light was lit up. this indicated that the airbag was off, despite the fact that i was sitting in it. after taking the car into the dealership, i was informed that i needed a new ocs control unit as well as two ocs sensors. i informed them of the previous recall on the ocs; however, they said this was a separate issue, so i was going to have to pay around $700. nissan originally said in a letter that, "if at any time within the next 15 years, the ocs system in your vehicle does not perform as described above, we urge you to please schedule an appointment at your nearest nissan dealer. the dealer can check the ocs system in your vehicle and, if needed, perform a one-time retrofit to the ocs system free of charge. " since the ocs is still having issues after the original recall, i thought it was imperative to report this huge safety issue. i was informed that the airbags might not deploy if i were in a car accident, which could cause unnecessary injuries or even death. clearly there are still unresolved issues with the ocs that need attention.

Airbag light is on solid on dashboard symbol located in the middle shows airbag off on passenger side i was told my vin is not listed on the recall list. this is a safety issue and needs to be resolved. not after the fact if air bag may or may not deploy. i should not be charge for a diagnostic. when make, model and year has been recalled already.

Passenger seat is not detecting when an adult is sitting, the airbag icon is turned on and wont turn off,on both dashboard and in the console.

Airbag light stays on even though passenger is in seat. goes away after restarting engine

My airbag sensor light is on and will not go off. this didn't occur until several months after, i had the passenger sensor light airbag detector worked on. with all the factory recall, i feel as if this need to be checked into. i would hate to have an accident and the airbags do not deploy if needed. my brother-in-law is a certified mechanic and he have repaired or towed several nissan altima that the airbag did not deploy during an accident,

One takata airbag was recalled and repaired. the second takata airbag has developed the same faulty readout on the dashboard and should be part of the recall. dealer (rip-off) quoted nearly $5k to repair which is electrical, is not faulty through misuse, and should be nissan responsibility. please help this veteran's widow.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 nissan altima. while driving 35-40 mph, the contact looked down and, by the time he looked back up, he had crashed into the rear of the preceding vehicle. the air bags did not deploy. the police were called to the scene and a report was filed. there were no injuries. the vehicle was towed to pugmire lincoln of marietta (1865 cobb pkwy s, marietta, ga 30060) where the dealer informed the contact that it would be a couple of days to determine if the vehicle was a total loss or if it could be repaired. prior to the crash, the contact noticed that the passenger side air bag indicator was illuminated at all times, even when the passenger seat was occupied. there were no recalls associated with the vehicle. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 95,563.

Reliable nissan in albuquerque performed the ntb16-052 requal and immediately after repair the driver side airbag light came on and stayed on. told this to mechanic and was charged for the repair when picking up the car. the driver side airbag always worked. mechanic stated that cause of airbag was due to a low battery and a zero point reset had to be performed for the fix. he stated anytime on a nissan car if the battery voltage dropped below 12v the airbag light will come on and have to be taken in for a zero point reset and a charge of $149.49. there are several issues with this. - first is the driver side airbag on my wife's car always worked and after the recall it did not. requal was for the passenger side airbag fix but affected the driver side airbag light to come on. - second issue was the car battery was replaced without being contact for replacement. there was no issue with the car battery as the car did not have issues starting. asked them to put the original car battery back in which they did and car started ok. he said it was marginal. checked the battery with my code reader and battery was 12 volts. car has been starting okay for several weeks. the last issue which is the most important is nissan stating if a battery on a nissan drops below 12 volts and airbag light will come on and may not work. if this is the case this is a major safety issue as there are always going to be batteries that go low or need a charge as it is a consumable part. a customer will be charged for the fix and worse of all the airbag will not work until taken to the shop. really. i have owned a chevrolet and now two fords and a nissan. only nissan has this issue? if a car battery is good enough to start a car but is below 12 volts the airbag will not work even with the alternator charging the battery. this is what several individuals at nissan are telling me. please help
