Recently reported VISIBILITY/WIPER problems on 2008 Nissan Altima

Dashboard melting and produces glare making it difficult to see when driving in sunlight.

Our 2008 nissan altima dashboard has melted leaving it sticky and shiny causing distracting and glaring reflections off their windshields. i'll taking it to dealership twice about dashboard but they stated they was unaware of any issue with this vehicle dashboard. the second time i told them about the multiple lawsuits i found on-line and they directed my to nissan consume department. nissan told me the unit was out warranty and will not assist.

Visibility is not clear due to the "sticky" dash being reflective onto the windshield. when it's sunny outside it's even more difficult to see out of the windshield. wiping the dash with cleaner only makes it worse. wearing sunglasses does not help either.

The visibility is difficult because of the melted -sticky dashboard. the glare blinds you when the sun hits you. there is no reason the dashboard should just "melt"

Dashboard is melting, producing a blinding glare on the windshield.

The dashboard is melting. the stickiness from the melted dashboard creates a glare that can make it difficult to see at times. this could cause an accident.

I heard on the radio that anybody that got a crack in their windshield on i10 is to file a complaint. that part of the highway is ridiculous, i have cracks. it sounds like its raining stones on i10.

I purchased this vehicle used and the dash is melting and sticky. it is black and the glare from this defective dashboard is extremely hazardous. it makes it impossible to drive safely.

Melting dashboard. its so bad, the dashboard is melting and giving off this shiny sticky residue. i cant get it off and its so shiny i cant hardly see out my windsheild when im driving during the day.

The sun visors on the altima coupe break and hang straight down in the field of vision. i just ordered my second sun visor and i am waiting for it to arrive. they must be held up out of the way with one hand while driving with the other hand (until you can get it removed). when i suggested that there should be a recall, the nissan parts man said " i don't disagree with you". i think that means it happens a lot.

2008 nissan altima dashboard is melting and cracked. the dashboard produces a glare making it difficult to see when it is sunny. material for dashboard is defective.

The dash of the vehicle is melting which causes a reflective glare in the windshield, this glare makes the visibilty very difficult at certain times of day. the vehicle is dangerous to drive in this condition. nissan is aware of the issue and has repaired these vehicles in the state of florida. this damage is gradual and we first noticed the melting dash around 2014. the vehicle was in tennessee from 2008 to march of 2017. we moved to new mexico in march 2017 and the affects of this glare seem to be more obvious here. nissan refuses repair my vehicle even though they obviously (based on them paying to repair vehicles in florida) know that this condition is dangerous..

Nissan altima 2008 melting dashboard. unfortunately, my car's dashboard is melting; thereby, creating a dangerous, hazardous glare on the front window.

The dashboard of my 2008 altima coupe is melting and impairing the visibility. it is unsafe to drive because you can not see what is in the road in front of you. it has been an ongoing problem for years but is getting worst. research has shown that this problem has been known to nissan and the government, but neither thinks it warrants a safety recall. there are several class action lawsuits but none seem to apply to residences of alabama. my late husband contacted a layer in california involved in one of the lawsuits but did not pursue because he did not trust lawyers. i have been busy fighting cancer but lost the battle, and my husband. i contacted nissan today to see if there is anything they can do to remedy this problem. nissan told me that i need to pay a local dealer $100-$200 to file a report, but because of the age of my vehicle they probably will do nothing to repair this safety issue. impaired visibility is a safety issue and should be corrected! i have attached several pictures to show how much the visibly has been impaired. in one of them there is an entire house that is obscured, i have also included a picture out the window to show the house. i live in the country and there are children in the house next door that ride their scooters in the road. imagine if that was a child playing in the road that was not visible instead of a house...

Dashboard is sticky and melting

The dash on my altima is melted to the point that if any light shines on it, there is a horrible glare on the windshield to where i cannot see. it is a common problem on these cars, especially in the southern states.

I would like to know what nissan is doing to correct the melting dashboard issue. my dashboard has a sticky film on it which creates an extremely bad glare on my windshield. it makes it almost impossible to drive during the day. recently i almost hit a pedestrian because i couldn't see the person due to the glare that the dashboard was creating. i would like to know who would have been at fault if i hit that person? the police would have blamed me for the accident but the true culprit in my eyes is nissan because they refuse to fix the issue. how the hell can nissan say it's not a safety issue when obviously i can't see while driving?!?

Since purchasing the vehicle in 2014, the dashboard has been continuously melting and cracking to the point where the glare from the black melted dashboard has severely decreased visibility. additinally, as more cracks have appeared the car no longer recognizes when a passenger is in the passenger seat and shows the airbag as 'off.'

Sticky substance on dash/ 2nd transmission is giving me problems

Dashboard is melting and cracking to the point where i can see the foam material that the dash is made out of make seeing out the windshield very difficult, especially when coming out of a tunnel during the day and not being able to see momentarily making driving very difficult. bought a dash cover to hopefully slow down the process and so i could see out the windshield clearly. also the passenger air bag light does lights up intermittently when no one is in the passenger seat. bought the car, 2008 altima coupe, in north florida and has been driven in florida, georgia and hawaii, where i currently live, year round. i have had the car for almost 4 years and have less than 75000 miles.

The dashboard is melting that causes the surface to be extremely shinny which in return when the sunlight glares through it makes it very difficult to see through the windshield. i do know that florida owners won a case against nissan to have there dashboard replaced that cost them $250.00. but the state of north carolina states the statue of limitations is only 7 years. i talked with an attorney about taking on a case against nissan to have ours replaced, but no taker because of the statue of limitations. also, i noticed that texas has a pending suit against nissan for the residents with the same complaints. i have 2 pictures attached for your review. i really appreciate your assistance and i hope i have an answer within 30 days. thank you.

The dashboard of my 2008 nissan altima coupe has started melting. the glare from the sun on the inside of the windshield makes it very difficult to see oncoming traffic. extremely difficult to see on a sunny day in late afternoon. i know there is a class action suit for this in florida, but i live in tennessee.

2008 nissan altima coupe 2.5s - dashboard is melting, to a point that the reflection of it on the glass is affecting by almost 90% my visibility. putting myself, my four years old daughter, and other (pedestrians) at risk.

The dashboard seems to be melting. the dashboard appears very shiny and is sticky to the touch. the shiny dashboard creates a glare on the windshield which significantly reduces visibility. the stickiness also traps dust, dirt, etc. adding to the reflection on the glass.

Dashboard melting. it is extremely difficult to see the pedestrian, road, vehicles due to glare on the windshield when the sunlight reflects from the dashboard. the glare impairs the vision and we had many near miss incidents that could have cost lives, property damage. we request recall considering the safety of all on the road.

Daily driven 2008 nissan altima in south florida. vehicle dash has melted causing the dash to be sticky and reflecting a massive glare on windshield making it very difficult to drive. entire dash has started to crack and pieces falling off due to poor quality of dash. defogger for windshield has been affected do to the structure of the dash changing and becoming stick. extremely dangerous when driving and do not see any current recalls for the car or dash.

Adhesive used to assemble dashboard is deteriorating and migrating to top surface of dashboard causing severe glare which is in direct line of sight impairing safe operation of vehicle in good weather conditions. the sticky substance first appeared during january of 2016

Dashboard melting resulting in sticky goo to the touch thus resulting in visibility issues. terrible glare on windshield causing severe visibility issues - unable to see thru the glared windshield to drive safely. attached photo shows the severity of the glare as light shines through the windshield.

Dash board is melting... causing extreme glare while driving.

08 nissan altima coupe that i purchased new in south florida february 08 that i've owned since has a melted, sticky, and cracked dashboard. also, the dash is changing colors. the defective and melted dashboard makes it dangerous to drive because the sun reflects on the dashboard making it very hard to see out of the windshield. as referenced in the class action lawsuit tracy sanborn v. nissan north america, inc. my car should be covered. i spoke with a rep at 1-800-nissan-1 and they claimed to have no idea this existing. i have opened my case and will hopefully get it fixed soon.

The dashboard is starting to melt bad. i've been trying to protech it with sunshades but it still continues to melt. this is causing glare on my windshield and causing obstruction for my driving and becoming a safety issue. not sure why nhsta is waiting for some accident to happen. i would request recall and fix the dashboard issue

The dashboard for my 2008 nissan altima coupe is melting. in sunlight (most of the day), my visibility on the road is decreased tremendously due to glare the melting material causes to reflect on the front window. this has been a huge safety hazard while driving. from online searches, this is a common issue for many nissan altima drivers, and nissan has failed to respond and replace these melting dashboards. a recall is needed before an accident happens.

The dashboard is actually melting causing difficulty in proper and sufficient visibilty due to excessive glare reflecting off of melting dashboard. this is making it difficult in seeing pedestrians, animals, traffic lights, and signs. i've had too many close calls of not seeing pedestrians from this glare until the i was almost on top of them.

Dash board is sticky and melting. residue clouds the windshield. glare makes it hard to see. this is happening at all driving conditions.

The dashboard in my 2008 nissan altima is melting away and has left behind a very sticky and shiny surface that emits a very strong vision impairing glare onto the windshield. due to this glare, i have had almost a number of near miss accident situations since this issue begun in 2012-13. the glare impacts your visibly, adding more distraction and limits response time when aggressive or phone distracted drives suddenly swerve or pull out in front of you as you try to avoid an accident. apart from the glare, the dashboard is emitting a very strong chemical like odor which makes me concerned for my overall health. i don't believe it is healthy for any driver/passenger to have to be breathing in the toxic particles from the materials and glue of which the part is made of. my other concern in this situation is the impact the defected melting dashboard has on the release of the passenger airbag in the event of a crash. the dashboard upon touch is very guey, sticky, and smears or comes-off when pressed. the manufacturer has refused to replace this part and has quoted $2,000 for part replacement. this is not only a very costly item, but also unfair to the owner who can't afford the repair and has to jeopardize their safety because of manufacturers negligence by supplying defective part. i try to avoid driving this vehicle unless it is necessary out of concern for my safety.

I live in central florida and own a 2008 nissan altima coupe. my dashboard began to reflect a real bad glare while my husband drives. he is the primary driver as i am not. he has complained about it as well but it is evident that he sees the glare as i see it as well. come to find out i have a melting dashboard per nissan auto technicians. it is gooey, sticky, and causes such a bad glare that we only drive in early morning or late early evening when the sun is not so extreme. the nissan service department stated to file a complaint to nissan corporate office since they have been replacing these at no cost for other vehicles. i placed a complaint with nissan corporate as i was advised. i received a phone call from them on 8/28/15, stating that they will not replace the dashboard for the following reasons: outside of warranty, no current recalls & campaigns, no service contract, no extensions history of service of the vehicle and other factors. what does that mean? there is not definitive answer. when i asked to give specific they said they did. mind you, i service my car and all maintenance has been done on the vehicle either by my husband and son (who is a mechanic), nissan service department or tire plus. i think this is absurd! we can cause a huge accident one day for a product default by nissan engineers. my husband has tried to avoid many accidents from this glare from the dashboard as the sun in florida hits hard on a black dashboard especially. i am filing this complaint to have the nhtsa get involved in enforcing nissan and any other vehicle manufacturing companies that are facing this issue to recall this defective product. this can cause many accidents and speaking from experience, we have avoided several ones thus far. we have been lucky thus far but i can't predict the future of what will happen tomorrow if this defect doesn't get corrected by nissan.

My 2008 nissan altima's dashboard is sticky and melting. the sticky residue reflects in the windshield causing a glare when driving during the daytime. in my opinion the melting dashboard is a safety defect and should be recalled.

I own a 2008 nissan altima and live in glasgow kentucky . a while back i noticed a real sticky substance on my dash that was causing a terrible glare on my windshield. i googled the issue and apparently the 2008 and 2009 altimas dashboard will melt. makes it hard to see out at times

Front dashboard has a melted, sticky and tacky surface from a combination of direct sunlight and/or high interior heat temperatures. the melted dash has created a high shine surface that reflects sunlight directly onto the windshield in the driver's field of vision impeding visibility and makes driving unsafe. debris and dirt adheres to the surface, cleaning is difficult because of the tacky surface. there is pitting around the location of the passenger front air bag location due to the melted texture of the dashboard. dashboard has a putty and gummy like texture.

2008 nissan altima dashboard "melting". majority of dashboard now looks shinny and appears to have a liquid shine to it, which causes blind spots during driving due to the reflective nature of the "melted" dash. cannot touch, clean, or wipe the dash as the surface is similar to tacky glue. nothing has been sprayed on the dash to cause this issue, this is just the heat building up internally and the design of the dashboard material being substandard.

My 2008 nissan altima started with a melted dashboard which is a safety hazard because of the glare on the windshield. i can't see when the sun is reflecting off the melted (wet) dashboard. more recently the entire dashboard has exploded and is cracked with the inner material showing. this is obviously a fault in the manufacturing, i have a friend with a 2008 coupe and the same thing happened. this should be recalled as a safety concern as it interferes with the driver's visibility.

Dashboard, steering wheel, and shift handle have all melted from heat. the dashboard has become almost liquified, and the glare from the now shiny surface creates a reflection on the windshield, creating a safety hazard. the steering wheel has become gummy, making steering unsafe, and the rubbery material on the shift handle has become gummy, making it difficult to safely shift gears accuarately.

My 2008 nissan altima dashboard is melting causing severe glare from the sun which is causing a safety issue (cannot see vehicle in front of me with glare present). it's continuing to get worse. the glare is so bad i'm blinded. it is completely impossible to clean.. recall!! people are going to get seriously injured due to this.

The dashboard in my 2008 nissan altima coupe is giving off a strong chemical smell, is very sticky to the touch, and is so shiny that it generates an intense glare on the windshield when in direct sunlight. the windshield glare is a huge safety hazard that is only getting worse -- it used to be that i could get by with wearing sunglasses but now the glare is so intense that even with polarized sunglasses on, i have to lean this way and that in order to see what's in front of me. if i were to lose my sunglasses while out and about, i would absolutely be unable to drive until after sunset. it's unsafe for me and everyone on the road to operate a vehicle with such bad windshield obstruction. any bugs or debris that come in contact with the areas of the dashboard that are melting instantly become stuck. it looks a lot like a tar pit and if you touch it, a tar-like substances comes off and is very hard to remove from your skin. the fumes it gives off are nauseating and seem to make the windshield foggy. when trying to clean the weird chemical fog off, i have to be extra careful not to let the cleaning rags touch any part of the dash because it will literally pull the rag apart, leaving behind distracting pieces of cloth all over the dash. i asked nissan consumer affairs to help remedy my situation but they refused to help because the vehicle is no longer in warranty. it seems that as time goes on and the weather gets hotter, the dashboard only gets worse and worse. i cannot afford to fix the problem on my own (the dealership estimates that the repair will cost over $2,000) but i also don't feel safe driving in the sunlight.

My 2008 nissan altima needs to be recalled due to dashboard melting. the dashboard is sticky and gives off a glare during the daytime while driving. this issue is extremely hazardous and blinds my vision when i drive during the day. please nissan fix this issue. take responsibility for the materials used when manufacturing a vehicle. care about your customers concerns and fix my dashboard. *tr

Dashboard has begun to melt, leaving a sticky residue that is highly reflective. in direct sunlight, it will reflect onto windshield causing reduced visibility. residue will not wipe off. attracts loose fibers, dirt, and debris. inner dashboard toward airbag and steering wheel is also pitting due to a tacky texture from melting....updated 07/13/16 *bf
