I have a nissan altima coupe 2008 2-door and my dash is melting. i live in florida and now the glare of the dash melting is putting a glare on my windshield and is beginning to be a dangerous driving situation. i have researched this and it seems to be a problem with this vehicle. today i filed a complaint with nissan and i am waiting to here back. *tr

My 2008 nissan altima dashboard is melting and the glare from the molten rubber/plastic creates a reflection on the windshield which makes it very difficult to drive in the sun and is potentially very dangerous. i contacted nissan about this and they say that they cannot do anything about this even though it is obviously a factory defect. they want to charge me 3000 $ to replace the dashboard which i do no intend on doing it as i feel like it is nissan's responsibility to replace the dashboard. *tr

The dashboard of our 2008 nissan altima has started melting and cracking. the dash is now so shiny from the melting substance, that there is a severe glare issue when driving on sunny days. it is almost impossible to read road signs because of this glare. this makes for very hazardous driving. there needs to be a recall issued before an accident or death occurs because of the severe glare. *tr

The dashboard melts and it's an safety issue. sometimes i cannot see the road becasue the melted dashboard shines on the windshield.

Dashboard is sticky, melting and causing visual glare impending site. *tr

My dashboard has started to melt. it makes the dashboard very sticky as if it is an adhesive product and turns colors. due to this over time, the view out of the windshield is obstructed by a glare from any light source whether its from the sun or from a street lamp. i do not use any cleaning products other than a wet rang for the dash when cleaning the car, and i take pride in my vehicle. since my car is out of warranty, nissan would not replace the dash even though this is an safety issue as some pedestrians or road hazards are almost unavoidable due to the glare. in addition, everything sticks to the dash including paper, sun visors, and even bugs as i am located in miami, fl.

The dashboard has melted and is now a shiny sticky black surface that cannot be repaired. i did not use any chemicals on the dashboard before this started appearing. also, the dashboard emits gases that fog the window and cannot be fixed by defrost. *tr

Since 6/2013 the dashboard of this vehicle is emitting a sticky, shiny, substance, which likely indicates deterioration of the composition of the dashboard, making driving hazardous, as it makes visibility out the windshield difficult. the sticky substance is highly reflective, making driving in the sun very dangerous. i have made multiple trips to our nissan dealership to explain the situation, and although they indicate that they have observed this situation with this particular model/year, they are not willing to rectify the situation. i also contacted consumer services with nissan and they are not willing to replace the dashboard, even though it presents a hazard to driving the vehicle. *tr

The dashboard of my 2008 nissan altima has been melting for over a year and a half and is now causing such a large and intense glare on the windshield that it is difficult to see during daytime hours and at night when driving under lights. the dashboard is constantly sticky and comes off in chunks when you touch it. i have searched for information about this issue and found several people with the same problem. some have even reported issues/possible issues with the airbags. it wasn't until today when i searched again, hoping others may have come up with a solution, that i found a thread on facebook (https://www.facebook.com/nissanusa/posts/10152938385130375) discussing actions to take to better this situation. one nissan owner suggested filing a complaint here. some owners have reported quotes from nissan dealerships ranging from $300 to over $2500 when nissan knows of this defect and it is not in any way caused by the car owners. please help us fix this situation. *tr updated 5/4/2016*js

The dashboard is melting, getting shiny and sticky. the sun reflects off the dashboard onto the windshield, obscuring vision. this creates a serious safety hazard. the first time this occurred, my vision was pretty much blinded. had the vehicle in front of me elected to stop or slow down at that time, there would have been an accident. *tr

Dashboard has started to melt in my 2008 nissan altima coupe that has greatly impaired my vision when driving on the road on a sunny day. the glare reflected from the melting portion of my dash is reflected onto my windshield. i have almost been in multiple accidents due to the lack of visibility. *tr

The dashboard on my 2008 nissan altima coupe started melting around may, 2013. at first it was not noticeable but now there are big shiny, sticky patches on my dashboard. this would not be a problem but while driving during the day the sun reflects off of the melted areas and causes a glare on my windshield that greatly reduces my visibility. because of that i tend to not drive it often. also its giving off the smell of burned plastic. after doing some research i found i am not the only one who is having this problem. it seems common in places like texas, florida, and california. https://www.facebook.com/nissanusa/posts/10152938385130375 http://forums.nicoclub.com/my-dashboard-is-melting-t569582.html. *tr

My dashboard has melted creating a terrible glare that is not just distracting while driving but dangerous because i cannot see through my windshield during the day or when on coming headlights come towards me during the night. not only is it terribly dangerous but the melting is making my dash sticky causing parking passes to stick and leave residue. *tr

My wife and i started to notice that the dashboard of our car is melting. we are extremely concerned about safety because the glare off of the shiny melted surface can decrease the driver's ability to see perfectly clear. it is a hazard, especially during sunny days. i have done some research online, and i notice many other car's owner experiencing the same safety issue. the melting is getting worse and nissan don't want to be held accountable. this should be a recall for the safety of public transportation and everyone around. *tr

My dashboard is melting. when i drive, the sun hits the dashboard. it looks like a sheet of water because it is melted. the reflection hits my eyes and affects visibility. everything that touches the dashboard gets sticky and black marks. i have tried to get this resolved with nissan, but they refuse to cover all of the costs. i cannot afford to pay the huge labor costs and i do not fee that i should be liable for a factory defect. this is not only cosmetic, but a safety issue. *tr

Dashboard is melting and causing glare on the windshield

The dashboard of my 2008 ultima has melted into a shiny rubber causing serious visibility issues while driving during sunny bright days. i resorted to putting a plastic rectangle to cover the reflection on my morning commute, but now that plastic is stuck and semi-permanently attached to the dashboard from the stickiness. the attached pictures were taken on my driveway. notice the reflection of the rock wall and white garage on the left side of the dashboard. during morning or afternoon sunny conditions, the glare becomes unbearable. this issue seems to be very prevalent specifically with a 2008 model year altima. not 2007 and not 2009 so clearly it's a defect and a hazardous one too visually. also there are unknown consequences of the fowel tar like order within the interior of the car most prominently present afte the car sits closed for a while.

Dashboard is melting causing a dangerous glare on the windshield restricting my vision. the vision restriction caused by this glare makes driving hazardous in this vehicle. i have seriously considered trading in the vehicle for this sole issue. nissan needs to take responsibility replace these dashboards or at least pay for 50 percent of the costs. i have also considered joining the class action lawsuit which has been filed against nissan.

Dashboard is melting. has gotten progressively worse over the past 2 years. the shiny sticky mess causes a huge glare on the windshield. it is a manufacturer defect and a safety issue. nissan needs to recall! i love my vehicle, but it is terrible that i have to put a carpet dashboard cover on it to be able to see.

The dashboard in my 2008 nissan altima is melting. i have never applied any chemical cleaning solutions to the dashboard and i bought the vehicle brand new. the intense glare from the melting dash board is so intense that i have on numerous occasions almost been involved in accidents. i am also concerned that this defect could cause a fire in the vehicle. the nissan claims department states that the melting dashboard is not covered because the warranty has expired and the dealership claims to of never seen a dashboard melt. an internet information search for "2008 nissan altima dashboard melting" reveals numerous other 2008 nissan altima owners dealing with the same problem. *tr

Dashboard has been melting creating a shiny coat that reflects to the front windshield diminishing visibility and creating potential hazards, specially during the day as it omits a blinding sun glare. the car no longer has nissan warranty and considering the hazard and the amount of people with the issue nissan should issue a recall for this type of dashboards to prevent accidents. *tr

I purchased a 2008 nissan altima coupe from a used car dealership, it has turned out to be a great car except the issue that appears to happen to many of their dashboards. they begin to melt from just general daily exposure to the sun. it has created a glare that makes it difficult to see out the windshield while driving even with sunglasses. i spoke with two technicians at nissan dealerships and they have agreed that it must be the material used that year on the dashboard. upon taking this issue up with nissan they said they would not replace the piece, and have not taken responsibility for the issue and the material that they placed in this vehicle. this will continue to be a safety concern and will not escalate until unfortunately someone gets into a accident due to the material they used on this dashboard. nissan, i feel should take responsibility for the material used and replace the piece not only for myself but others, not just because it looks terrible but that it is a safety concern at this point. *tr

Dashboard meltdown - causing dangerous glare when driving nissan states not apart of recall? ?

My 2008 nissan altima dash board is melting. i live in miami fl. and brought my 2008 altima new from a local dealer. around 2010, i started to notice the deterioration of the dash board. i thought the problem was related to a cleaning product. however, based on my recent research over the internet and personal observation of other 2008 altima's own by others, the melting dash board is a pervasive problem. this problem is a real safety issue that nissan should be resolving by recalling there vehicles that have this problem. the dash board is so shiny that it inter-fears with the driver's vision while driving. when the sun is shining, the dash reflex the sun directly in the face of the driver. i reached out to nissan (case# [xxx]) they explained that it is nothing they can do because the car is out of warranty and refuse to repair or resolve the issues. however, since this is safety concern that has the potential of endangering the people lives, the warranty limitation should not apply. i am asking for nissan to confirm a recall and replace my dash board. case#[xxx] vin#[xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
