The dashboard on my altima started melting and cracking. now its shining in my view as im driving under the sun. i gotta wear shades most of the time especially in the morning when my eyes are still adjusting. ive called nissan and they said they wont pay for a replacement due to it being out of warranty. a new replacement costs over 1000$.
I live in jacksonville, fl and the dashboard in my car appears to be melting. the glare this causes can be very bad and dangerous. i've had to struggle with seeing out of the car in the evenings because of the glare. *tr
My dashboard has started becoming gooey and very shiny. if i touch it, it feels like i am touching an adhesive used for something like a bumper sticker. the safety issue is that this is very reflective and projects a glaring image on the windshield making it hard to see parts of the road ahead.
I own a 2008 nissan altima, purchased in 2010. at purchase, the dash board appeared tacky, but was intact and the original color of flat/matt black. over time the dashboard has become glossy black and viscous (as if it were melting). the glossy nature has become a glare issue, reflecting the light and at times impairing visibility. after a brief internet search, i see this has been an issue for the altima model, especially 2007-2009, as well as other nissan/infiniti models yet nissan usa refuges to acknowledge culpability. i also have found that a class action suite has been files in southern district of florida for this very problem ([xxx] v. nissan north america, inc.). there has been no recall of this issue as of yet, while mazda and toyota have issued recall notices for the same issue. this is a costly replacement ($2000+) and should be covered by a recall notice as it is clearly a defective plastic mixture and is an issue for passenger safety. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

My car has sticky, melting dashboard that creates a glare on windshield and affects visibility. i am also concerned with the airbag being compromised due to the defective dashboard. *tr
The dash surface has severe melting and the resultant glare causes visibility to be significantly reduced under normal driving conditions. the result of the melting dash surface can create temporary blinding conditions as the vehicle orients to direct sunlight and after dark street lighting. this car is dangerous to drive. this product should be recalled immediately and fixed by nissan.
Dashboard melting causing glare making visibility somewhat hampered. *tr
Sometime in the fall of 2014 i noticed an area on the dashboard of my 2008 nissan altima was beginning to appear "sticky" looking. my first thought was that a drink may have been spilled on the dash when entering/exiting the vehicle and the lingering residue had formed a coating. when i got home i tried wiping the affected area of the dashboard with water on a rag. quickly the rag became stuck to the dashboard material itself and couldn't be moved in a wiping motion any further. the rag took some effort to be separated from the dashboard, and sticking to it was a thick rubbery substance that was the same color black as the dashboard. it was then i realized that the dashboard itself was melting. since then the problem has gotten worse and the area of melted dashboard has increased in size. large spots on the driver and passenger sides' dash are now melted, as well as small areas above the a/c vents. the melted areas have a very shiny appearance that creates significant glare on the windshield. at certain angles with sunlight the glare creates a large visual distraction/obstruction and it is a dangerous safety hazard. the reflection from the dashboard onto the windshield can make it very hard to see pedestrians, other cars, traffic signs; anything that is in the area of windshield with the reflected glare becomes very difficult to see. in addition to the safety concerns, i cannot put anything on the dashboard now. everything i've placed on it will stick to the dash, and will come off with a sticky black rubber coating on it when removed from the dash. it's awful. and i fear that the substance melting could possibly be carcinogenic and making the air in the car toxic. this is a serious problem and there needs to be a recall from the manufacturer to fix it. it is 100% a manufacturer defect. please make nissan address this issue! please help with this! thank you *tr
Dashboard is melting in all over, the material in the dashboard is now very shiny and makes it difficult to see on a sunny day (it's florida). dealership says car is out of warranty and there is no recall by nissan. this is a huge safety issue as it causes a reflection on my windshield severely impairing my visibility. *tr

Dashboard appears to be "melting". the dash has become sticky and shiny. the shine from the melting dashboard creates a glare on my windshield. this glare has become a safety issue and has interfered with my driving ability. i live in florida and the sun shines all year. this glare is no doubt a safety hazard and must be recalled. i have contacted the nissan dealership and nissan hq and both places will not do anything to repair this without charging $. *tr

I purchased a 2008 nissan altima brand new in 2007, and currently the dashboard is melting. i recently visited my local nissan dealership as i was told to do by nissan consumer affairs for a diagnostics. there the dealership also agreed the dashboard is peeling and melting. i was quoted a total cost of $1860 for parts and labor. i then contacted nissan consumer affairs regarding the matter and they created a case# and said they would get back with me on the issue. a week later they contacted me to say that they will pay for the parts but not the labor because my vehicle is no longer under warranty. i cannot possibly understand why i should be penalized or have to pay for any of this when it is completely not my fault. this is the first i have ever seen of a melting dashboard and i've had two cars prior to this one, one being a 1995 and there were no issues of a melting dashboard. this melting dashboard is also hazardous for me, the child i'm carrying and my two year old son, as it does affect my view while driving when its sunny out, which is pretty much all the time where i live, there is a really bad glare of the dashboard on my windshield. unfortunately this car is my only means of transportation and buying another car is out of the question for me financially. *tr
My 2008 nissan altima dashboard is very sticky and melting. i called nissan and make my first complaint 2 months too late was told. since then the melting and stickiness on the complete top of the dash board is getting worse. inside the car now it?s also smelling like melted tar, which may represent a health issue when breathing it, and with it the intense glare, reflection of the glossy tar on the front window it's a severe safety hazard when driving, especially when this also could result in airbags being suppressed which could fail to provide adequate protection in the event of an accident. nissan refuses to help replace this defective dash board. last week i called nissan again. this time because the a/c?s evaporator needs to be replaced.i understand the cost of this would be my responsibility to pay, but because this is under the defective dash board, this one would have to be removed in order to replace the evaporator. once removed, the melted dash board, no guarantee could be installed again, i was told by service rep at nissan. a nissan supervisor told me the same as others and suggested for me to call nhtsa and file a complaint, so they would work on a recall for this. my a/c needs to be fixed. i'm in fl where weather conditions and rainy season it's next to impossible to drive with windows down. i'm aware that a/c repair is my responsibility but i believe it's unfair to have to pay an additional 2,000 because of nissan's defective material used on dashboards. this is a known concern since others have had the same issue. if nissan doesn't do right by its consumers and or a recall is issue, there would be many consumers in the future with risks of accidents and/or possible respiratory health issues. a simple search on your page you find many other consumers with same problem. nissan makes it sound like these are isolated issues. *tr
The material on the dash is melting, and there are chunks breaking off, greatly affecting the value of my vehicle. this also causes a reflection on the windshield. there is a glare in the direct line of my vision and when driving into the sun it is very difficult to see. i have heard other makes of this same year have had similar problems, and had manufacture recall. hopefully nissan will follow suit. soon.
The dashboard on my 2008 altima has been melting for the past year and is causing a large area of glare on the windshield. when i brought it up to the dealership last year, they told me i had used a chemical on the dashboard, that it needed to be cleaned off, and there is nothing they will do to fix it. they did not address the stickiness, either. this issue of a melting dash is dangerous, as it causes decreased visibility through the windshield with any amount of sunlight. please make nissan take responsibility for using lower quality materials by replacing the dashboards with a better quality material at no cost to the car owner.
Dashboard melted and causes a severe glare on the front windshield. this glare limits viability and is dangerous when driving.
Dashboard is starting to melt around the a/c vents and is sticky to the touch. *tr
Dashboard has melted. the glare has bricks so bad that it s a safety concern when driving in daylight. sunlight reflects and makes it difficult to see traffic ahead.
Vehicle dashboard is melting and it's difficult to see while driving. it has become a hazard. *tr
The dashboard on my altima is melting and is extremely sticky and cannot be cleaned. the defect causes a horrendous glare and makes it extremely difficult to drive safely when it is sunny outside which is quite often in louisiana. this is clearly a fault in the hands of nissan.
My 2008 nissan altima 2.5 showing a residue on front dash about 2 years ago. it has worsened to point where a glare from sunlight reflection disrupts field of vision while driving. i've seen numerous other complaints about the dashboard melting in warmer climates with higher quantity of sunlight. *tr
Dashboard appears to be melting. it is sticky and shiny and pieces lift off with anything that is placed on the dash. the effect causes a significant glare in the sunlight that affects driver line of sight. deterioration has also caused multiple cracks in dash surface that may potentially affect air bag deployment. *tr
My dashboard is melting and causing me to loose visability. there is no recall and there is nothing i can do to stop it.
My altima coupe has a melting dashboard that causes visibility issues by glaring into my windscreen. it is melted and bubbly. also my passenger seat belt light cuts on and off due to my passenger seat bracket being faulty. i have not heard back from nissan on a way to resolve these safety issues. *tr
My dashboard on my 2008 nissan altima coupe is melting and causing a extreme glare while driving. i've gone to the nissan dealer and they refuse to repair my melting dashboard. there is no way to reduce the glare! this is not the consumer's fault... this is a manufacturing defect! *tr
Dashboard is melting and causing a glare, thus making it difficult to see. its a safety hazard. nissan needs to recall melted dashboards. there are multiple people who are experiencing this problem. link: http://forums.nicoclub.com/my-dashboard-is-melting-t569582-150.html. *tr
I have a 2008 nissan altima 3.5sl, i live in southeast florida. my dash is "melting" and has become a shiny, sticky black mess that creates an incredible glare on the windshield. i'm aware that this problem has been under investigation for quite some time and i want to add my name to the list of complaints. i found it annoying that the dash was melting, i've had other car dashes crack in the heat, but not melt. the main problem is that the dash is so shiny now it can be nearly impossible to see through the windshield when the sun is out. i first noticed the issue a year or so ago. i've selected jan 1, 2014 arbitrarily. it was around that time that the issue really started being a problem. *tr
I noticed in the beginning of this year my dashboard started to melt. it is getting worse and it makes a glare off my windshield. the glare is so bad that i can barely see out my front window!! *tr
The dashboard is melting. it has become shiny which causes there to be a glare on the windshield which can hamper the driver's visibility.
The dashboard of my car has melted, presumably from the hot sun. it has become sticky and mess. however, it has also become very shiny. the shine refects dangerously into the windshield while driving, obscuring objects, including cars and pedestrians, on the road. the problem first began about two years ago but has gotten progressively worse. the attached photo, taken today, shows how the driver cannot see a large suv right in front of his vehicle because of the glare on the windshield caused by the melted dashboard.
During the past year or so, my 2008 nissan altima coupe has been developing a very sticky and extremely shiny surface on the dashboard which is unwashable and when sunlight is reflected off it, it makes it very difficult to see the road ahead and has nearly caused me to cause an accident on several occasions. i though i was the only one but reading up on it, this seems to be a problem with the 2008 nissan altima. please help and do something about this as to fix this potentially life-threatening defect, not only for me but for other 2008 altima drivers, passengers, and and fellow neighboring cars on the road. thank you!
The dashboard on my nissan altima is melting. the material has become very shiny and sticky creating a horrible glare on my windshield and i cannot see while i am driving. it is very dangerous and i was told by nissan the melting material is emitting fumes. the windshield also has a constant film on it from the melting material, which combined with the glare is hazardous. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 nissan altima. the contact stated that the heat from the sun melted the dashboard. in addition, the reflection of the dashboard was blinding to the contact when driving. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer and no reason was provided for the defect. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified and no solution was offered. the failure mileage was 58,000.
dashboard of this vehicle is emitting a sticky, shiny, substance, which likely indicates deterioration of the composition of the dashboard, making driving hazardous, as it makes visibility out the windshield difficult. the sticky substance is highly reflective, making driving in the sun very dangerous. *tr
Starting approximately a year ago, my dashboard began melting. this has produced a sticky, shiny substance on my dash that in turns reflects the sun onto my windshield. it impairs the field of vision at certain times of the day. i have notified nissan of this issue, and they have stated they do not acknowledge this as a defect. *tr
My nissan altima dash has become sticky and shiny causing a glare that makes it hard to see at times. this also prevents it from being cleaned. it has melted. this was first noticed several years ago.
