Have has to replace water pump 4 times for leaking. replaced 2 power steering pumps. transmission and slipped and chirped since i bought it. noticed metal shaving in my oil.
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep grand cherokee. while driving at 40 mph, the vehicle failed to shift gears. the check engine warning light was illuminated. the vehicle was taken to golling chrysler dodge jeep ram (2405 s telegraph rd, bloomfield hills, mi 48302 (248) 334-3600) where it was diagnosed there was to much transmission fluid in vehicle. the third and fourth solenoid slipped. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not contacted. the failure mileage was 97,006.
Received 'transmission over temp' message on dashboard after about 10 miles of driving in the morning. when the car has been in the heat for a while, the message could appear before 10 miles (sometimes immediately). the fan turns on and there is a definite lag in acceleration. along with this error, i also get the 'service, tire pressure system' message consistently. i've visited my mechanic with both issues and they thought it was fixed by the new battery, but they only drove the car for 8 miles to attempt getting the transmission hot, nor did they probably hit a bump/pothole to trigger the tire pressure system. they're puzzled as to why those messages are popping up because they don't see any further issues with the car.
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the transmission overheated, which could cause the vehicle to shut off. the vehicle was taken to crown dodge chrysler jeep ram (6300 king dr, ventura, ca 93003), but they were unable to diagnose the cause of the failure. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where they replaced the main computer. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was 151,633.
Abs eas and traction controll warning lights on again with service 4wd system message after completing 1st recall, vehicle was just started and put in to drive acceleration to 12 mph causes bad grinding noise and loss of power just about enough to get you in to the middle of an intersection very dangerous then it seems to catch and regains power the warning lights stay on and you can drive it all day with no issues but as soon as you turn it off and back on it will do it again.
After purchasing this car pre-owned in 2008 we began having issues with the transmission shifting. after bringing back into dealership for diagnostic testing, they found nothing. this went on for a period of two years, with them even keeping the car over a period of time. still nothing on the diagnostics. throughout the years we would notice a strong downshift when coming to stops and a "chug" when shifting out of low gears. fast forward to 2018. the jeep finally quit shifting out of first gear...the rpms would race up and the car just wouldn't sift even when using shifter stick manually to the + or -. brought to local mechanic. did diagnostics. found shifter was broken and replaced and reset. a few days went by and it started happening again. mechanic said that rear wheel sensor had gone bad and was throwing of computer brain of car, so we had him replace that. all was great. husband takes car on short trip and while passing a car in the left lane on interstate 10 it once aging chugs down hard and he loses gears...has to pull over on side of interstate, shut off car and restart to get it to shift again. bottom line is there has to be a long standing issue with drive/power train & electrical/computer brain!!! we have kept this car in great working order, regularly changing fluids and maintenancing. there is no reason this care should be behaving in this manner @ 12 years old, regularly maintained unless there is an outstanding issue with 2006 jeeps. it has to be an overall problem and after reading many of the complaints we believe this warrants an investigation and defintely a recall!!! all of the above issues happened in both city street and highway situations and while the vehicle was in motion.
Takata recall sensor goes off while driving and no air bag deployment
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that there was a failure with the gear box. while driving 55 mph, the gear suddenly slipped out of fifth into first gear and caused the vehicle to jerk and brake suddenly, which nearly caused a crash. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the dealer (riverhead chrysler dodge jeep ram, 642 w main st, riverhead, ny 11901, (631) 727-1040) and manufacturer stated that the vehicle was not included in a recall. the failure mileage was 85,000. *tt*jb
My vehicle was in motion on the highway, on a straight-away. i heard a loud boom, then my vehicle started to smoke. i pulled off the road; and called for a tow. the mechanic stated that it was the transfer case seal that blew. he changed it and added fluid, but the noise is still there. he said that if it doesn't go away. now, the jeep won't shift out of first gear. it has been sitting in my driveway since i picked it up from the mechanic on 12/4/17.
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the gear shifter failed. while driving various speeds, the gear shifter shifted into neutral independently. the failure was experienced several times. the vehicle was not diagnosed by a dealer. the manufacturer stated that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 13v175000 (power train, electrical system). the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 123,000.
Esm (electronic shift module) is faulty on these models; 2006 jeep grand cherokee. this issue does not allow the shifter to communicate with the transmission. therefore the vehicle does not know what gear it needs to be in. after having reresearched online this is a know, common issue. this is a serious danger as the vehicle goes into "limp" mode; (won't properly accelerate). this can happen under many driving conditions, city or highway. imagine entering traffic at a busy intersection and suddenly losing the ability to accelerate. i have experienced this, as have many other individuals according to internet research. it seems that chrysler knows of the issue. why hasn't there been a recall?
When driving 60 mph, going down a hill, clutch in transfer case slipped. causing slipping/grinding noise and vehicle must be stopped, put in park and restarted to reset the vehicle. this happened once, i was afraid to drive the vehicle. the jeep was taken to a mechanic who said that the clutch in the transfer case slipped.
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep grand cherokee. while driving approximately 50 mph, the driveshaft blew up and the contact heard a noise underneath the driver's seat. the vehicle was coasted to the side of the road and was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed and replaced the driveshaft and crank case. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 14v438000 (electrical system). the failure mileage was approximately 170,000.
coupling between output shaft on transmission and input shaft on power transfer shaft input failed under regular use stripping input spline on pto and is not under warranty, the auto was moving forward slowly making a left turn from a green traffic signal
I was advised by larry h miller in albuquerque nm that my recall was fixed and that i would need to pay for a diagnostic to see why the " service 4wheel drive system" light was still on even though i had been there 2 times in past and issue was said to be resolved by a system update. i left the dealership after i was told it was about 280$ that i would have to pay to get the issue fixed-
Dear recipient, i am reaching out to make others aware of a serious problem with my family's 2006 jeep grand cherokee. while the vehicle was in park, with the keys out of the ignition, one of my members of my family was able to shift the gears from park to natural. the suv was parked in our driveway which has a slight decline in slope. due to the decline and the vehicle being in neutral it started rolling backwards with my family member inside. we were cleaning the vehicle at the time of the incident so all the doors were open. the jeep picked up speed, hit our fence, and rolled out onto a public road and into our neighbor's yard. lucky nobody was hurt, except for the jeep. this could have killed a member of my family or other civilians around the scene. i have had other issues with my jeep, one of which has been made into a recall without fixes. this recall is about the ignition switch going from on to off while driving. i can say from experience this has happened many times, and is extremely dangerous when it does happen; you lose the ability to control your vehicle besides having brakes. you loss power steering and experience engine failure in the middle of busy traffic. besides that recall, the drivetrain being able to be switch in a parked position without the keys being in the ignition is the most frustrating, which could have killed my son, or others around. i bought this vehicle because i wanted something safe to drive my family in, and that has fallen very short from expectations . i don't understand how these vehicle issues can be swept aside; i might as well keep my old vehicle made in 1984. please take these comments into consideration and i thank you for your time. *tr
Takata inflator. i purchased my jeep and after a few months i notice it kept getting stuck in 3rd. wouldn't come out. then the message "transmission over temp" would pop up. it would randomly just loose all power and cut off as i would be driving. i had it looked at. checked the codes bc check engine light would pop up also. multiple codes were in the history pertaining to the issue. i was going to get everything fixed until i was told to contact jeep first bc there might be some recalls that others were experiencing my same problem. i would of paid for it regardless to fix the problems. it had numerous recalls. made an appointment to mckinney dodge in easley,sc. after fixing the recalls i have paperwork for a few months later was doing it again. i work in a service dept. so i asked one my techs if it was same problem as the recalls and did i need to call dealership back. they said yes. called mckinney and they refused to set me an appointment and said the problems had nothing to do with the recalls they fixed. after having several tows and stranded and almost wrecking with my children in the car going down the highway and just dies, i'm beyond frustrated and no one can seem tell me how to fix. after reading several reviews and recall information, my issues are everything with my recalls. my airbag light go on and off also. they never touched that and it's also a recall. i need to know what i need to do bc i'm not waiting for an accident or death bc this vehicle. it's my only car and i've tried to pay myself and had recalls fixed and problem is still there. i've contacted a lawyer. i want it fixed or i want another vehicle. *tr

I took my 2006 jeep grand cherokee ( 63000 miles ) to the dealers for the n23 recall to reprogram the final drive controller,so the car wouldn't shift into neutral by itself and roll away. a few days later the code; service 4wd system appeared on the dash. when i returned to the dealer for a different recall, i told them of the problem and asked them to check if the reflash had caused this error code. just like i have read on jeep forum and online news articles, the dealer claimed that this is the first time they have seen this problem and it has nothing to do with the n23 recall. they wanted $350.00 to diagnose the problem, plus labor and parts to repair the car. i believe the antioch jeep dealership knows that the recall reprogramming of the final drive controller showed that there is a cracked circuit board in the unit and that it is a systemic problem in over 250,000 cars. i would ask your help in bring this problem out into the open,so all car owners in my situation, are not asked to pay for this repair. also i ask that you help us make the jeep corporation stand by their product, do the right thing, and make this repair free through a new recall. thank you [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

While driving the vehicle has a tendency to either not change gears (rev up) or even slip into neutral. it's creating a safety issue especially driving at highway speed. at times i am able to get to the side of the road turn vehicle off and shift it back in gear which sometimes i have to do it more than one time.

Vehicle has stalled while in drive at various speeds, in reverse or idling at a stop. this issue has been ongoing for over 2 years - has been brought to the dealership; was never told there was a recall on the ignition switch until i brought recently to midas for the above issues. they advised the engine shuts off due to the ignition switch being faulty. there has also been occasions that the abs seems to engage while in drive, typically occurs when turning. unknown if this is associated with the faulty ignition switch. was told by chrysler that the recalled part would be available as of september 11, 2015 - it is still not available. this vehicle is unsafe to drive.
I took my 2006 jeep grand cherokee in to the dealer to have my reprogram final drive control mod recall p73 fixed. while i was there the dealer informed me that the recall did not fixed anything, and their was nothing else that they could do for me. as of today 7/1/15 my 4 wheel low still does not work. about 1 years ago i had recall n23 preformed on my jeep which imedially caused the 4 low to not work. jeep still has not fixed the issue that they caused. my 4 low worked before i took my jeep into the dealer to have recalled `n 23 peformed.

My 2006 jeep grand cherokee limited pops out of gear while driving it is very dangerous because you never know when it is going to happen.

We have been waiting over 9 months since our initial letter from chrysler notifying us that our electrical switch was questionable. there is also a recall out for power train parts where the jeep may slip into neutral--this has happened several times, to the point where we are unsafe driving it. any contact with chrysler has resulted in "we've forwarded your complaint to our parts department" and then no response. we were told that no parts are in manufacturing--there aren't even parts to fix the problems!! we cannot drive our jeep for fear of death / injury. please help us resolve this problem. *tr

Driving 30 mph, after about 3 miles of driving my check engine light came on. followed the tips to check the code and it says "transmission over temp". everything seems to be ok at the time but i'm sure this will eventually cause a problem. a couple months ago the whole instrument cluster cut off and on 2 times in a couple minute window but that seems to have been an isolated incident since it hasn't happened since. *tr

While driving the gear lights on the dash will all have a square around them. when it does this the truck becomes in neutral , and is unable to accelerate. this has happened numerous times since we purchased it in feb 2015. this is quite dangerous and luckily we have not had an accident. updated 09/17/15*lj it was determined, the transmission control module needed to be replaced. updated 09/22/15*jb
While driving at a speed of approximately 55 mph a noise occurred in the rear of the jeep. the noise became louder as i slowed down and finally stop. i had it towed to my dealer approximately 85 miles from where it happened. he said the rear end was badly damaged. the cost would be expensive, somewhere between $4000.00 to $5000.00. i have no idea how this could happen. my jeep is a personal use vehicle only, very easy miles and always serviced. i feel this failure is manufacture issue. *tr

I received a recall notice n23 which said that i needed to call my local jeep chrysler service center as soon as possible to have the work done because the problem could cause a crash. i have been trying to call at least a couple of times a week since i have received this notice about 7 months ago and they told me that i am on a waiting list for the part. nothing can be done until they get the part. since then, the problems continue to get worse. last night, i almost crashed as i lost control of the steering because the jeep seemed to lost control and died momentarily as the lights on my control panel were flashing. i was told it was all due to the key switch but i have now noticed that as the lights are all blindingly flashing there is a grinding noise that sounds like it is coming from under the car near the front. i am not a mechanic so i have no idea and i don't have money to take my jeep in and have them "try" to figure out what is going on and then charge me for possibly figuring it out. this is unacceptable! we have been waiting for almost seven months for parts that the notice says "please hurry!!! call the express service hotline 1-866-849-3608 right now to schedule your free repair". is it because it is free repair that there is no hurry to get this fixed? i have a child! i almost wrecked. if anyone had been around me or i had been in a curve when i lost the ability to steer after the car died, we could have been killed or we could have killed someone else! i need help now!!! *tr

My son had his jeep in drive, sitting on an incline waiting to exit a parking lot. when he attempted to move forward the car had gone into neutral on its own and he rolled back into the vehicle behind him. he had to put the car in park, turn it off, start it again, and put it in drive before it would go forward. this incident caused damage to the front bumper of the car behind him. i took the jeep to the dealer and was told by their technician that the n23 recall had never been performed on this vehicle. it had been taken to another dealer to perform the recall by the previous owner before i purchased it and that dealer incorrectly reported that they performed the recall at that time. this recall was required to keep a car from slipping into neutral without input from the driver. i just bought this car in february and checked for any open recalls before purchasing. jeep was fraudulent when reporting this recall as completed and is responsible for the damage incurred. jeep did have my vehicle inspected, and i am still waiting to hear from them. i have attempted to contact them numerous times but still have not been contacted by them about this inspection. i am concerned about how many other grand cherokees owners are driving their vehicles thinking the recall had been performed and in fact it has not. *tr
