I purchased a grand cherokee laredo 2006 invoice no. 392118) on march 26, 2007 in tamiami chrysler-jeep, 8250 sw 8 street, miami fl 33144. a few days after its purchase i noticed a little jump when i accelerated, then i carried the car to tamiami chrysler service on april 2, 2007. they informed me that it has transmission problem so my car must remain there for a transmission replacement. of course i am using a rent car but i want my car back. it is too much time (25 days) and their answer: transmission is not available. *jb

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 jeep grand cherokee. while coming to a stop, the vehicle hesitated as if it would shut off. when the contact depressed the brake pedal, the gears shifted and the engine or transmission jumped. the failure occurred every time the vehicle was driven. the vehicle is currently being repaired by an authorized dealer. the vin was unknown. the failure mileage was 5,000 and current mileage was 23,000.

Transmission will sporadically choose not to engage allowing the vehicle to free wheel. problem noted mainly after initial start when left overnight and will go away after allowing the vehicle to warm up sufficiently (3-5 minutes). *cn

When attempting to accelerate after a stop, vehicle will only coast after attempting to accelerate. this also happens after making a turn; the vehicle will initially attempt to begin to move then will only coast while gas pedal is pressed. i have almost been in a couple of accidents because people think i am accelerating and they almost run into the back of me. *jb

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 jeep grand cherokee. the contact suspects failure in her vehicle's universal joints. when she drives the vehicle, it makes a loud noise and shakes. when she shifts from reverse to drive, the noise stops. the mechanic confirmed that the failure was the universal joints. the part for the repair is unavailable because it is a newer model vehicle and the driveshaft would have to be replaced. the current mileage is 42,963 and failure mileage was 22,500.

When slowing down to turn at intersection ,and reapplying gas engine rpm goes up but car doesn't move ,then all of a sudden it lunges forward. this has also happened at complete stop. then tries to go but then jumps forward. which at times it throws you back in your seat. *nm

Some type of metal rubbing together noise coming from rear of vehicle at slow take off from complete stop. stops after you reach just a few mph. *nm

We purchased in oct. 2006,a 2006 jeep grand cherokee 4x4, v6 with 5 speed auto transmission, vin [xxx]. there is a safety problem related to this vehicle and transmission. problem: the vehicle has no hill holding capabilities. in other words, when stopped on a hill, the brake must be held on with your left foot and your right foot on the gas pedal in order to move forward with out the vehicle drifting backward. in all the automatic vehicles that i have owned since 1958, including 1993 and 1996 jeep grand cherokees, none pf them were without hill holding capabilities. the first time i stopped on a hill with this vehicle, i drifted backwards and almost hit the vehicle behind me before i realized what was happening. this to me is a very unsafe condition and something damiler chrysler should be addressing. in expressing my problem to d.c. customer service, i just got lip service. this is why i'm expressing my problem to you in hope that a solution can be found. *js information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)

Dt*: the contact stated while traveling 17 mph down a curvy mountain road in four wheel drive low, the vehicle jumped out of low gear and sped down the mountain after the rpm's reached 1800. the dealership stated the hemi engine was designed to jump out a gear to conserve gas.

My 2005 jeep grand cherokee has a serious safety hazard. when the vehicle is started and placed into reverse, on 2 separate occasions, the vehicle jumped approx. 15 feet backwards. also, one time while the vehicle was in drive, sitting in traffic, the engine revved on it's own and it jumped forward approx 15 feet. in all three incidences, the brakes where depressed and where not able to hold the vehicle back. the brakes had to be released and then re-applied to get it to stop. *nm

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle made a loud noise and shifted into low gear independently as the perform service indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. the technician was unable to diagnose or repair the failure. the failure recurred on numerous occasions. the vin was included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v438000 (electrical system) however, the part needed to do the repair was unavailable. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the manufacturer was not notified of the issue. the failure mileage was unknown. updated 03/24/15*lj updated 6/19/2015 *js

Dt*: the contact stated the vehicle made a banging noise as the gears shifted. the dealership has inspected the vehicle twice, but has not been able to determine the cause of the problem. when the vehicle was stopped, it would idle very low and eventually cut off. updated 05/30/06. *jb

My wife and i purchased a 2006 jeep wk 4x4 on feb 20 2006. as soon as we left the dealership with 150 miles on it the air bags malfunctioned and had to be repaired. about 1 week after the repairs they malfunctioned again and where fixed again only to malfunction 2 more times and the dealership said there was no problems and cleared the codes. at the 3000 mile service there was an oil leak on the front crank seal which was replaced. it has also been in the shop 5 times due to an engine malfunction light in which case there was a multiple cylinder misfire, the dealership said there where no problems and cleared the code every time only for it to come back on. i just picked my vehicle up from the dealer again because the crank pulley and dampener where wobbling real bad and the check engine light was on again for the same reason. all repairs where made and after i left the dealership 15 miles down the road the light came back on. the transmission shudders when i'm stopped and shifts real hard. the dealership said its fine and there is now evidence of that. all these incidents are ongoing since the day it was purchased. *jb
