Recently reported ELECTRICAL SYSTEM problems on 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Dashboard lights..radio..flicking off and on while driving..next day no start...click from fuse while turning key..lights horn ..work

Have has to replace water pump 4 times for leaking. replaced 2 power steering pumps. transmission and slipped and chirped since i bought it. noticed metal shaving in my oil.

The vehicle's gauges will turn off while driving randomly. the speedometer, odometer, tachometer, fuel gauge will all zero out for unspecified amounts of time. sometimes 10 seconds, other times until the vehicle is started back up. this occurs when the vehicle is in motion. sometimes it causes the car to completely shut off and come back on. while shut off, the car sounds like it is struggling to continue its forward progress. this happens every couple thousand miles (2-3 months apart). once the car corrects itself, the check engine light appears. after starting the car 2-3 times, the misfire corrects itself and the check engine light turns off.

I have been dealing with this jeep grand cherokee issue for years now. at one point there was a recall on the ignition switch and it was replaced at the local chrysler dealer. the issue i have is identical to the one in the link attached. up until a few weeks ago, i lived with it. now the issue has turned dangerous because it also affects the ability to brake and turn. when the brakes seemed compromised, i took the jeep in for repair but they were not able to duplicate the issue. i picked it up last week from the repair shop and today it was the power steering that went out along with the usual dash panel function going out. i realize that this is an older jeep but it seems chrysler should still be responsible for the vehicle safety. https://www.mcall.com/news/watchdog/mc-jeep-cherokee-dashboard-shutoff-ignition-recall-watchdog-20141213-column.html this article describes the exact issues i have seen repeatedly. now that the loss of power steering and braking assist have both happened over the last several weeks while driving (supposedly fixed by the ignition switch recall), this jeep is too dangerous to be on the road.

When coming off of the off ramp from the highway, i came to a stop light. once sitting at the stop light the heater, dash and headlights all went off but the car was still running. all 3 of the mentioned above flickered on and off multiple times before coming back on again and then the check engine light popped up. this is not related to the ignition as my knees are not even close to the key and the key has nothing dangling from it. this is rather dangerous. if i was still driving and it happened, i would not be able to see my speed or the road.

Vehicle will lose all inside power - dash lights & controls, a/c, etc, whether driving or just sitting idling. upon restart, it may or may not happen again. most times it will be ok but you never know when it will happen. if driving, the vehicle will need to stop. you lose all power when it happens. has happened while driving at 55 mph on a major road, also happened while pulling into my employer's parking lot. the ignition switch was replaced after a recall 2 or 3 years ago at my local dealership. my hunch is that it is still an issue with the ignition switch. it is not detected when tested on a computer as i have brought it in to a local mechanic and they could not identify why the vehicle was doing this.

Headlights flicker and sometime go off completely while auto if being driven. this has been happening intermittently for several months. have had the ignition switch recall performed and also have had the new ignition switch replaced twice but problem continues. very dangerous situation to drive at night with unreliable lights.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the vehicle would not start. the fuel pump, starter, and crank sensor were all replaced. the contact felt that the totally integrated power module could be the cause of the failure. airport chrysler dodge jeep ram (5751 eagle vail drive, orlando, fl 32822, (407) 541-6200) was contacted and stated that the vin was not included in a recall. the manufacturer was not contacted. the failure mileage was 107,000.

2006 jeep models long with other dodge vehicles re experiencing tipm failure at the fuel pump relay causing the vehicle to stall while driving or not being able to start form being parked.

Fuses keep coming lose and causing abs to go off when you start off to drive and other error msgs to light up. push back down and its good for a while.

Recently bought our jeep and have dimming lights due to low idle and also have a problem with starting it. there are times it wont start unless the battery is disconnected and reconnected 5 mins later and that's after shutting the vehicle off after driving it. from what i have read there is an issue with the wire harness from the battery. the low idle is making the lights dim throughout the vehicle and from what i have read on that it needs a system update that can cost roughly 1000 which i dont have. my wife also said while she was driving home that the transmission slipped on her for no apparent reason. she said she pulled over and put it in park and back in gear and then it acted fine.

Dash lights flickering and keeps blowing fuses affecting right side front and rear marker lights (tail light and front marker light right side only) replace the fuse and it may last a day or it may last a few months, i see lots of complaints about flickering and i think it's a short, the fan relay for the heater motor kept blowing and after replacing it twice and the blower motor once i found that the problem was in the connector harness (bad solder job at the connector) burnt so bad i'm surprised it didn't catch fire!! in motion and parked.

The vehicle starts up great no issues, then within 5 seconds cuts it's self off. no sputtering or choking, it's not stalling, the computer is turning the vehicle off. this happens at least 1 out of 3 times starting it and sometimes if you keep starting it it will eventually stay in, but other times it leaves you stranded. there are 100s of other people reporting the same issue but jeep refuses to acknowledge there is an issue. they have replaced the pcm (over $2,000) repair and now want to replace 2 components feeding into the pcm bc the issue persists but won't guarantee the fix. i believe me and others deserve to have jeep acknowledge this is an electrical issue with their jeeps, that leaves their drivers stranded and vulnerable.

I have a 2006 jeep grand cherokee srt8 about two weeks ago i was leaving a store at night when i started the jeep the indicator light for my bright lights was on i tried to turn them off nothing happened they were stuck on then i realized i had no turn signals either. when i went inside the store the brights were not on and everything was working fine. i went ahead and drove home without turn signals and my bright lights stuck on about 10 min into my drive everything started working again. then about a week ago and i turned left to enter a highway everything inside the jeep went black i lost all interior power gauges, instrument panel, radio, ac, lights and fans the jeep stuttered but kept running when this happened everything came back about a minute later. just now when i was taking a left turn it happened again everything inside the jeep died again and came back on about a minute later. i have already had my ignition recall done also since the recall was done half the time when i try to start the jeep it will just make a clicking sound and i have to turn it over a few times and hold the key in the start position until it will finally start.

Takata recall, the vehicle lights on dashboard, headlights and the air conditioner stop working and gauges also cannot see anything or read speed limit, gas gauge goes all the way down while driving on highway! the light also flicker on and off and all light symbols appear on, and then only lights on esp bas light! i am afraid because of all potential dangers of have. no lights on can have, i drive the car with my 3 children and would hate for anything to happen while driving because of this issue. the flickering also happens while driving on the street, am afraid of getting pulled over because my lights are flashing on and off behind them.

While i was driving in my local suburban neighborhood, after driving about 6 miles, my vehicle shuttered and the dashboard lights flicked on and off a few times and started beeping. i got really scared so i pulled over, turned the car on and off again, and that is when i noticed the check engine light was now on. i immedietely took it to my trustworthy mehanic and that it when he told me the code reader was giving an error code of u1411 ignition switch. i did my own research and discovered that my vehicle fits the description (year/make/model) of a recall that was done on jeeps 2006-2007 for faulty ignition switches.

After purchasing this car pre-owned in 2008 we began having issues with the transmission shifting. after bringing back into dealership for diagnostic testing, they found nothing. this went on for a period of two years, with them even keeping the car over a period of time. still nothing on the diagnostics. throughout the years we would notice a strong downshift when coming to stops and a "chug" when shifting out of low gears. fast forward to 2018. the jeep finally quit shifting out of first gear...the rpms would race up and the car just wouldn't sift even when using shifter stick manually to the + or -. brought to local mechanic. did diagnostics. found shifter was broken and replaced and reset. a few days went by and it started happening again. mechanic said that rear wheel sensor had gone bad and was throwing of computer brain of car, so we had him replace that. all was great. husband takes car on short trip and while passing a car in the left lane on interstate 10 it once aging chugs down hard and he loses gears...has to pull over on side of interstate, shut off car and restart to get it to shift again. bottom line is there has to be a long standing issue with drive/power train & electrical/computer brain!!! we have kept this car in great working order, regularly changing fluids and maintenancing. there is no reason this care should be behaving in this manner @ 12 years old, regularly maintained unless there is an outstanding issue with 2006 jeeps. it has to be an overall problem and after reading many of the complaints we believe this warrants an investigation and defintely a recall!!! all of the above issues happened in both city street and highway situations and while the vehicle was in motion.

Takata recall sensor goes off while driving and no air bag deployment

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that there was a progressing failure with the vehicle randomly stalling with no warning. the dealer (len stoler chrysler, dodge, and jeep, 1001 baltimore blvd, westminster, md 21157, (410) 876-8800) replaced a part associated with the ignition which had took longer than 6 to 8 weeks to receive. the vehicle continued to stall after the part was replaced. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 89,000.

While driving the dash board goes black and all gauges go to zero loses complete electrical power. this happens several times a week. ignition switch has been changed already

Warning lights on dash service 4 wheel drive. skid control. check engine light. esp. bas. shift indicator intermittent radio plop. speed control control inop

The car shut off lost all power control panel went out while driving at 45 miles per hour i quickly wiggled the key(ignition switch ) and the car began to run again

1st recall recieved in 2014 about a moth after purchase said the ignition switch was faulty causing loss of power. to date have had the ignition replaced 2x. it stil looses power while in motion from 45mph to 70mph. have had many repairs done claiming to fix the problem and nothing has worked. dealership keeps saying they don't know what the problem is. when it loose all power i have approx. 20 seconds to make it to the shoulder. have almost been hit several times on the freeway. this happens on a daily basis. my husband and i feel like it may be an electrical shortage somewhere that no one can seem to find

Takata recall i have been having problems where my jeep randomly shuts off in the middle of the road. i have usually been on city streets, some times i can be sitting in one spot, moving really slow, or even hit a bump and it shuts down.

When driver or parked and idling the dash, indicator lights, headlights, tail lights, speedometer completely lose power. this has happened while driving in low light conditions causing a very serious hazard.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the vehicle would become inoperable intermittently after the ignition switch was turned to the on position. the vehicle was towed to freedom chrysler jeep dodge (located at 6060 allentown blvd, harrisburg, pa), but the failure could not be diagnosed. the contact stated that the failure occurred more frequently after being repaired per nhtsa campaign number: 14v438000 (electrical system). the contact stated that the battery was replaced on various occasions. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 101,000.

I purchased a used said vehicle n first week had a/c going off n on returned several times to be repaired. same problem warranty ran out after 60 days..got diagnostic from advanced auto code stated misfired cylinders...returned again claim they would fix after this i would have to pay...currently rumbling noise from back of my car took to williamston auto repair got diagnostic on lift was told had four misfired cylinders n that car has been sitting in water. rust all around entire car to touch pieces falls off and rust inside car.mechanic stated this must be a flood car.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep grand cherokee. while driving at unknown speeds, the contact looked through the rearview mirror and noticed metal debris falling from underneath the vehicle. the contact pulled the vehicle off the roadway to inspect underneath it and noticed that the skid plate under the fuel tank was bent and rotting away. the contact mentioned that the vehicle was previously at the dealer (bob richards chrysler dodge jeep ram 1666 jefferson davis hwy, graniteville, sc 29829 (855) 984-5458) for power steering replacement and transmission inspection. while the vehicle was on the lift for the transmission inspection, the dealer's mechanic noticed that the skid plate was damaged, which could have been a fire hazard with a fuel leak. the vehicle was taken back to bob richards chrysler dodge jeep ram (1666 jefferson davis hwy, graniteville, sc 29829 (855) 984-5458) where it was diagnosed that the skid plate was gone and needed replacement. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for repairs due to the less expensive cost. the contact also stated that the vehicle was serviced per nhtsa campaign number: 14v438000 (electrical system), but the failure continued and the ignition would inadvertently turn. the vehicle was not diagnosed. the contact believed that the failure was related to the wiring harness and not the ignition switch. when the vehicle was started and the engine was turned off, it restarted itself seconds later. the manufacturer was notified of the failure, but did not offer any assistance. the failure mileage was approximately 152,000.

Continued stalling issues because of ignition switch recall. had the recall service performed and it is still having stalling issues to the point that without they key in the ignition the vehicle will shift into gear. last occurrence it wouldn't turn over and when it did a horrendous sound came from the engine. needs new motor per mechanic.

Dash lights flashing when headlights are on. this causes a big distraction at night when driving. also makes the stereo lights flash. has been going on everyday for almost 2 years.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep grand cherokee. the contact took the vehicle to flower motor company (2580 n townsend ave, montrose, co 81401 (877) 851-2064) to be serviced per nhtsa campaign number: 14v438000 (electrical system). after the recall repair was performed and before leaving the dealer, the contact noticed and inquired as to why it was difficult for the key to be turned in the ignition. the technician stated that the ignition was new and it would loosen in time. the contact stated that she had to wiggle and turn the key several times to turn the ignition on. the following day, after wiggling the key several times, the vehicle failed to start. the vehicle was towed to the contact's home and was able to start several hours later. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed with a faulty ignition switch. the switch was replaced, but the failure persisted while still at the dealer. the vehicle was taken back into the dealer's garage and the technician worked some more on the ignition, but no issues could be found. afterwards, the contact stated that the key was still difficult to turn in the ignition. several months later, the vehicle failed to start and the dealer was contacted, but offered no assistance because the recall repair was performed twice for free. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. the failure mileage was approximately 160,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep grand cherokee. while driving various speeds, the air bag warning indicator illuminated continuously. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the air bag system needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 170,000.

I had my ignition switch replaced as a result of recall nhtsa campaign number: 14v438000 nearly a year ago. now i am experiencing the same dash lights flashing and blower not working problem as others while driving. this problem is occurring more frequently. today after parking, i depressed the key switch to turn the vehicle off (the newly designed switch must be pressed in for it to turn) and all the dash lights lit up and blower stopped. releasing the switch returned the dash lights to normal. depressing the key caused the lights to turn on again. i was able to repeat this several times before it stopped. obviously the new key switch design is contributing to the dash light problem as well. i will be bringing the vehicle back to the dealer to have the key switch replaced again.

I was told at the dealer i bought it from that all the recalls had been done. i have a service 4-wheel drive light now. the jeep seems to go into neutral at random times. right after it is started and driving on the road. this was a used jeep that i bought in dec. 2016. shorty after i bought the jeep the check engine light came on showing an emission code and then the transmission quit working. the transfer control quit working after they worked on it. i no longer have 4-wheel low or can i put it into neutral. but it seems to shift into neutral at random times. i have no control on if or when it will shift into neutral so i guess at this point i have yard art. the dealer just wants to throw parts at it until its fixed. they claim there is nothing wrong with the jeep. or we don't know what could be wrong with the jeep but we will fix it to the tunes of thousands of $

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep grand cherokee. while driving approximately 50 mph, the driveshaft blew up and the contact heard a noise underneath the driver's seat. the vehicle was coasted to the side of the road and was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed and replaced the driveshaft and crank case. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 14v438000 (electrical system). the failure mileage was approximately 170,000.

I had an ignition recall performed, ever since my key turns real hard and my lights flash and i loose all the power on the dash, lights blinkers, gas everything. sometimes the jeep wont start and now the key wont turn i've complained aot and had sensors replaced and it's still the same way it's scary when your on the highway and all the electric is gone a d then comes back on, even if i hit a bump it goes out

Tl* the contact owned a 2006 jeep grand cherokee. while driving 30 mph, the rear passenger side of the contact's vehicle was struck by another vehicle. the air bags did not deploy. a police report was filed and there were no injuries. the vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v438000 (electrical system). the vehicle was towed to a dealer and declared destroyed. the failure mileage was approximately 112,000.

My ignition switched off disabling mostly everything on the vehicle. this was all while doing 75 mph on the interstate. i love jeep but they to get this fixed.

Ignition key failure and electrical issues with locks. vehicle will not start at frequent and in frequent times. vehicle seems to think that there is a key in the ignition. dealer has looked at and replaced on previous recall. problem is not fixed and vehicle will leave you stranded. took back to dealer and they can't find issue! vehicle was stopped and stationary. does not start when key is inserted and vehicle is parked.

I was advised by larry h miller in albuquerque nm that my recall was fixed and that i would need to pay for a diagnostic to see why the " service 4wheel drive system" light was still on even though i had been there 2 times in past and issue was said to be resolved by a system update. i left the dealership after i was told it was about 280$ that i would have to pay to get the issue fixed-

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep grand cherokee. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 14v438000(electrical system); however, the recall could not be repaired due to the technician stating that the wiring was touched. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the contact had not experienced a failure. the manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. parts distribution disconnect.

When i'm driving while in motion in a straight line all of a sudden my dash lights flicker and my ac stutters on and off and then all power stops and my brakes more or less lock up but not all the way but the engine still runs .... i'm not sure if the windows stop working or not but its been happening a few times and it seems like its going to need a tow truck but when i pull over off the highway and turn it off and restart it resets its self my jeep only has 78,000 miles on it because it was sitting in storage for 6 years while i was out of the states so it did not get driven and the dealership took it and changed all belts fluids and gave it a checkup before i drove it again

A recall was issued nearly two years ago, for a faulty ignition switch on my 2006 jeep grand cherokee (srt8). two years later, the fiat-chrysler dealerships / service centers still say that they don't have parts available to make the repair.they claim the shortage is a nationwide issue.
