Nhtsa veh rec # 14v-4387 -still unresolved due to part availability - there have been more than two-dozen instances where jeep vehicle has shut itself down rendering all driver safety / control features (brakes, steering, air-bags) completely off! this vehicle failure happens at different speeds, direction (fwd-rev) while turning, going straight, uphill & down etc - this jeep vehicle will shut off without warning since the key is in the on position, accessories (radio, wipers, fans etc) will remain on making it very difficult to detect that the engine has stopped and there is a zero engine power. it's not until you realize you've lost propulsion (passing or going uphill), slowing down, or loss of power assist steering and breaking, that you begin to react and try to restart the jeep. the first reaction is often panic driven breaking and getting out of harms way. today (3/19/2015) was my worst experience yet! driving ~35 mph on 2 lane road w/ mod-heavy morning traffic around me (7:15am) and this jeep shuts itself off. the car directly behind me swerved to avoid me as i had no power, and could not safely get out of the flow of traffic! i find it totally reprehensible that as of yet, there are no parts available to fix thus known defect! this is a 2005 vehicle - w/ a recall date of sept 3 2014, more than six months ago, and as of today, because it's my primary vehicle, i risk my, & family lives, all the while jeep and the us gov't have known about its defect. i expect jeep and the us gov't will defend and hold me (and any other drivers of this vehicle) harmless against any undesired events caused by this defect. please respond if possible. *tr

Vehicle is an automatic, suddenly attempted to manually shift into a lower gear. the vehicle suddenly slowed down to 5 miles an hour and the rpms started to red line. check engine light came on and stayed on all day. this has happened numerous times in the last few months without warning.

I was parked in a parking lot with the engine idling and the jeep in park, with the emergency brake engaged. after approximately 5 minutes, the engine suddenly revved up and my jeep surged forward, striking the car parked directly in front of me. i pressed hard on the brake and the jeep surged forward again before the engine died and the jeep stopped. the e-brake was still engaged, but the gear, which had been in park, was now in drive. at no time did i come into contact with the gear shifter. *tr
This vehicle has quit running several times since we have owned it while drivingthe engine will just quit. we can move the shift lever in neutral and it will start back up, but this is still dangerous, especially when my wife is driving. it has happened to her 3 times now and happened to me 2 times in about last 5 years. *tr
2005 jeep grand cherokee 5.7l stalls while driving, goes into limp mode constantly while driving or stationary, unintended acceleration while stationary and surges forward when brakes fully applied. also got the recall for ignition issue but no parts available so have to be careful till then. ignition recall is even stated to be a temporary fix. electrical issues cause sever safety concern for customer safety. no warning when issue will happen. replace parts stated by professional diagnostic and still have same electrical issues.
Jeep n23 recall to fix inadvertent shifting of transfer case into neutral locks up control module. vehicle transfer case will not shift anymore. chrysler denies the effect, although thousands of jgc are now crippled. they recently (7/29/14) released a software update (http://www.wkjeeps.com/tsb/tsb_wk_2102214a.pdf) to the fdcm, the same module the n23 recall flashed. however, they are charging customers to update after the first flash for n23 locked transfer case in position. they are trying to continue to fix the n23 problem but without cost. *tr

Lights lit on dash, abs, traction control,& service electrical brake system.replaced brakes & no change lights still lit up.got recall notice p41 in sept, 2014 stating problem with ignition switch,& that the part is not available & will contact me when its available.it is now over a year later still nothing and is way beyond a reasonable of time for repair !!! after driving all winter without the traction control.now when i drive the vehicle when i turn it off it won't start & it wont start for 11/2 to 2 hours i am just stuck waiting & waiting! it is totally random sometimes it starts & sometimes it will only crank for a split second and then i am stuck, tried to jump it doesn't help at all makes no difference.also the headlights will flash off & on at times, as well as the dash lights.this is my only car so this is a major problem for me.have spoken with the dealer can't help parts not available.
On may 22, 2014 i took my 2005 jeep grand cherokee limited 4 x 4 with 5.7l hemi engine for recall #n23 reprogram final drive control module. the mileage at that time was 93758. after that "fix" everything seemed to run okay then on july 2, 2014 due to a grinding sound in the rear, my sons father in law checked the codes and found the emergency brake tone ring show. also on the dashboard a "service 4 wheel drive system" message appeared. he replaced the right rear hub assembly and both emergency brake shoes, but when he went to test drive the vehicle, he said it wouldn't shift correctly. i believe he said it wouldn't shift out of 4 wheel low. vehicle did also stall also he said. he checked internet and found loads of reports of this model and year jeep vehicle having problems only after having the n23, nhtsa id# 13v175000. recall "fix" performed. mine was done at tri-cities chrysler, dodge, jeep, ram at kingsport, tn. it appears to be a computer related problem, as that's what was reprogrammed for the recall. i am disabled and need the jeep to haul my handicapped scooter and me with my wife driving. it's essential that it's not out of service. i called the aforementioned dealer service department today and spoke to "greg" who said he could check it out. i had my sons father in law call him to fully explain what was dysfunctional as he was the one that experienced the problem and thus fully tell [xxx] about it. i was told that [xxx] said we could tow it in at our expense (not drive it) and he'd check it, but until a recall notice is received , anything done would be charged to me. please expedite these thousands of complaints asap. i need my vehicle. i don;t have bus or taxi service, and with my disabilities (fused left hip, mainly) i can't ride in most vehicles because of leg room. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 jeep grand cherokee. while driving approximately 65 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle was restarted and resumed normal operation. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the transmission needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. the contact received a recall notification for nhtsa campaign number: 14v438000 (electrical system); however, the parts were not available. the dealer was uncertain when the parts would become available. the manufacturer was notified of the delay. the approximate failure mileage was 130,000.
The n23 recall was performed which was a software update that now recognized that the transfer case actuator motor was bad. the dealer replaced the transfer case motor at a cost to me of $900. after 3 months of driving the "4wd system" error pops up again on my dash and i can't put my vehicle into 4wd lo again. apparently, there is a service bulletin about this - service bulletin number: 21-022-14 rev. a. no one from chrysler informed me about this so i had to research the problem for hours on my own. this is bad business and the public should be informed of this. *tr
In route to open gym for my 3yr old, after exiting expressway in traffic approx 5-7mins, suv shuts off. after it shut off it would nt start for approx 4 mins, it did not fully crank yet cranked, in a putting pattern, i was able to pull it out of traffic into an office park located at 3525 piedmont rd ne atl, ga 30308 in front of building 7 entering from piedmont rd. once parked, my temp gauge was on hot panned hard right, the suv would not start, i allowed it to cool down to halfway, during that time i made 4 attempts to start the suv. each time it would putter, or sound as if it was out of gas. once suv cooled to half i attempted to start and it started in the same putter fashion as before, yet appearing to catch as if it was start normal, all the while smoking out the back a slight pop could be heard coming from underneath the front of the vehicle, yet as it appeared to start i would give it gas with hopes that it would catch and then it just shut off and started smoking and there was a noticeably different odor that my 3 yr old and i smelled, from there i got out of the truck to see if the smoke was coming from the radiator, since the temp gauge was just on hot, i notice there was a fire burning in the lower back of the engine region, i immediately lowered the hood due to not having anything to prop it open with, i immediately got my 3 yr old son out of the vehicle to safety, i return to get his car seat and anything to hopefully salvage, i then return to the suv to put out the fire out as best i could, i appeared to out on both sides and just smoking badly. called a ride to take me and my 3yr old home. the following day i checked the suv, the engine area, hood, front windshield had completely burned, there is no hood area, the hood is in the windshield, and everything else forward chard and melted, to the yellow pieces, i was able to take photos, and a video. *tr

When i'm driving about 55-60 mph, my laredo starts to shake very bad to where i have to come to a complete stop in order for the shaking to stop. this problem is starting to become worse as time goes on. now when i reach 40-45 mph it happens. i was told this maybe the torque converter. i do not feel safe to drive it. i seen where there was a recall but not sure if my jeep was one that needed the work. any info and have there been similar events? *tr
June of 2014 and still to this day the gear shift can be moved from "p" to any gear, and that is when no keys are in the ignition/and no foot on the brake. i was working under the hood and my 4 year old son did just that and almost ran me over. i checked and the vehicle had no keys in it they were with me in my tool box because i didn't want him to do just that. i checked out the situation to make sure it wasn't a fluke, and to my surprise and still til this day, i can enter the vehicle with no keys and no foot on the brake just reach in and move the gear shift from "p" to any gear resulting in the clunk of the transmission and rolling of the vehicle. this is very unnerving and would like this to be fixed. i have read countless articles and blogs about this exact same problem.

2005 jeep grand cherokee. consumer writes in regards to transfer case actuator recall problems. *smd the consumer stated he complied with the recall notice he received in the mail. the dealer reprogrammed the final drive controller module. four weeks later, the vehicle caught on fire. the consumer stated he didn't have any problems with the vehicle, prior to the recall repair. the consumer stated after a short time of driving on the expressway, it felt as though the vehicle was not shifting into the next higher gear and would not shift into the higher gear when he pressed the accelerator. while driving in the right lane, the vehicle went into neutral on its own and the vehicle began to coast. when he looked in the rear view mirror, he noticed gray smoke coming from the rear of the vehicle and then the gray exhaust smoke, turned black. within less than a minute, the consumer was on the shoulder and two-inch red flames began emitting from under the hood. then the flames were five to six feet high above the car hood. the local fire department and police were called to the scene. *jb
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that while driving approximately 50 mph, the vehicle would not accelerate and the transmission failed to down shift. additionally, the transfer case would not shift out of four-wheel high into neutral or four wheel low properly. the failure occurred after the vehicle was serviced under nhtsa campaign id number 13v175000 (electrical system , power train). the vehicle was being taken back to the dealer for the third time due to the remedy not correcting the failure. the manufacturer was not notified of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 86,300.
After application of safety recall n23/ nhtsa 13v-175. reprogram final drive controller module. 2005 - 2010. (wk) jeep grand cherokee. 2006 - 2010. (xk) jeep commander, the transfer case of my could not be shifted out of 4-high to either neutral or 4-low. consequently a major drive train component has been destroyed. this demonstrates the software is defective and potentially dangerous and may not correct the reason for the recall. the jeep cannot be towed in neutral, and 4-low, a feature i specifically required in a vehicle, is now useless! this could have been avoided by completely replacing the fdcm instead of a poorly constructed software "fix." *tr
While driving for about 20mins the was a hard shift and my truck was stuck in 3rd gear and the check engine light came on. i took it to a mechanic and he said it could be the shift solenoid and it would cost 700 to take my transmission apart to check it. $700 later im still having the problem i bought the car at 82k im now at 92k i keep up regular service. what is weird is when i turn my turn my truck back on its no longer in 3rd and it stays that way for sometimes weeks but it comes back surely. *tr

After application of safety recall n23/ nhtsa 13v-175. reprogram final drive controller module. 2005 - 2010. (wk) jeep grand cherokee. 2006 - 2010. (xk) jeep commander the transfer case of our car could not be shifted out of 4-high to either neutral or 4-low. consequently a major drive train component has been destroyed. this demonstrates the software is defective and potentially dangerous and may not correct the reason for the recall. thousands of jeep vehicles subjected to this recall have suffered the same loss of function. how does nhtsa, or we, know the safety problem is actually fixed? it is obvious the software used in this recall was not subjected to sufficient testing to validate it. i therefore fear my car is just as liable to have a safety defect as before the recall. there are several consensus standards for the testing of software, they were developed by ieee, ansi, iso and ul to name a few. we own a second jeep grand cherokee. we refuse to have this recall performed on our second vehicle until this problem, and any others that may be hidden in the poor design of the software, are corrected. *tr
My transmission fills with water causing it to downshift hard to 3rd gear. i triple flushed the transmission and it was running alright for approximately two weeks, then it filled with water again and i now have the same problems that i had before. i see there was a recall for the vehicles with the 3.7, but i have the v8 and would like to know what i can do about this problem. *tr

Back in february i got notice of the following recall and had it performed eventhough was not having the problem. safety recall n23/ nhtsa 13v-175. reprogram final drive controller module. 2005 - 2010. (wk) jeep grand cherokee. 2006 - 2010. (xk) jeep commander, after this recall was perfrom 4low would not work. we were able to reset the module by resetting a fuse but, this only lasted a few months. in june the 4low stopped working again. because we heard there was a new service bulletin out we took it back again for another flash. this time they were also wanting to replace the acutator motor, which was not available. other people who have had this part replaced have been unsucessful. on top of this my dealer was telling me i had to pay for this part and they are claiming it is not tied to the n23 recall. we have not paid to have this part replaced because i don't feel i should have to pay for something that is chryslers doing. it is clear that the software updates have caused these issues to arise and chrylser is not owning up to it. i feel nhtsa needs to inforce that when a recall is made it truely needs to be done and the fix really works. if issues arise with a recall nhtsa needs to make sure the company makes it right.the chrysler customer care center is a joke. no one can answer your questions, concerns and calls are not return. making us go back and forth for updates that continue to not fix the real problem and making us replace parts that don't fix the problem is not the right solution. it forces consumers to not have recalls performed. nhtsa needs make chrylser answer and fix this correctly. a vehicle that cannot go into 4low or neutral is just as unsafe! *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that when shifting to the four wheel drive low position the four wheel drive maintenance service light illuminated. the contact had not experienced a safety incident related to the defect. no further information was available. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified and no solution was offered. the failure mileage was 109,000.
tl* the contact owns a 2005 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated the vehicle was serviced under nhtsa campaign number: 13v175000 (electrical system, power train) however, the recall remedy disabled the transfer case functionality thus creating another problem. the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 95,000.
I have a 2005 jeep grand cherokee, took in in my dealer in aug, 2013 for a safety recall (n23). first time i tried to shift it into neutral, it flashed a "service 4wd system", and would not shift into either neutral or 4low. jeep forum, with 70 pages and hundreds of comments on this problem, looks like the recall software update is the problem and chrysler has not yet owned up the issue. meanwhile, i cannot use my vehicle as intended. my dealer says i need a $500 part, but others have had that replaced and still have the same problem. there are about 2,000 transfer case actuator motors on back order to correct this problem; however, many who have had this part replaced still have the same problem. the new part is not fixing the issue, jeep needs to replace the final drive control module and the transfer case actuator motor. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 jeep grand cherokee. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 13v175000 (electrical system , power train) and had the recall remedy performed on the vehicle however, the transfer case actuator failed shortly after the repair. as a result, the vehicle would not engage in four-wheel drive. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the transfer case actuator needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the dealer informed the contact that the remedy part was on back order. the manufacturer was made aware of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 185,000.
Took jeep in for recall completed some odd miles down road 4wd low would not engage took back to dealer after internet findings of a bad recall( they make some by pass software instead of actually fixing the computer chip that cracks in transfer case) anyway they reset worked for a week maybe and again low didn't work anymore back to dealer they had new software jeep was reflashed on way home service 4wd system light on all the time took back to the dealer they reflashed it again n told me they'd have to contact chrysler if it happened again went out started jeep lights back on and back thru the door into dealer now i gotta wait for some star technicians to come look at it who nos how long that'll take. fighting with them over this recall for years is ridiculous if they woulda just fixed it the right way i'm sure these issues wouldn't happen. o and also the interior door handles are junk plastic n break n will cause u to be unable to safely exit in a fire!! this recall has takin to long to get fixed n chrysler should do something about it!! *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 jeep grand cherokee. while driving various speeds, all of the warning lights illuminated on the instrument panel and the vehicle hesitated to accelerate. the contact mentioned that the accelerator pedal had to be depressed with force in order to keep the vehicle moving. the failure recurred on several occasions. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the shifter module failed. the vehicle was repaired. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 14v438000 (electrical system); however, the part needed to do the repair was unavailable. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. the approximate failure mileage was 95,992.
I had to take the vehicle in for a recall since i received several notices, it was recall n23. this caused a safety issue when i could not shift into 4lo on a steep slippery muddy hill. prior to the recall the vehicles transfer case functioned properly however now it is not and the manufacturer has claimed that it is a separate part that broke. however one dealer indicated that it was due to a faulty flash of the recall. this seems to be a widespread problem and i do not want to be charged to fix an issue that was caused by a recall. *tr
After the dealer performed the n23 firmware update on the transmission to keep the jeep from in volunteering to shift into neutral, we cannot shift the transfer case into neutral or 4 wheel low without banging on the actuator motor, part # 5143786aa. this "fix" is not successful now. the jeep recommended fix seems to be to replace that part but it's back ordered by !,700 units. we need to be able to tow our jeep behind our motorhome in late feburary back to washington from az and this cannot be done w/o replacing that part which is not available. we have contacted jeep customer service and they have assigned a case manager. not clear what will happen next. *tr
After we had the following recall done. report receipt date: may 07, 2013 nhtsa campaign number: 13v175000 component(s): electrical system , power train the vehicle has failed to be put into 4 wd neutral or visa versa, not allowed to be put into drive. we tow behind my motorhome. it happened the first time we tried to tow it, it went into neutral but would not come back out easily. after ~1/2 hr of trying i was able to get it to go back into drive. i took it back to the dealer he could not find anything wrong. about 3 weeks later after pulling it behind the rv and then trying to put it back into neutral it would not go into neutral, took it to a different dealer who reran the flash on the final drive. it worked fine for about a month. no it has happened a 3rd time while my wife was on a trip, she cannot get it back into neutral. i have read of other people having the same problem after the recall, which indicates the recall is causing the problem. i doubt that the dealer will repair for free so i think the nhtsa should require the dealers to repair the problem as part of the original recall. *tr
We had the recall done on the jeep grand cherokee 2005. they reflashed the ecu that controls the ability to shift the jeep into neutral in order to tow behind motor home. after the recall we had trouble 3 times with the jeep either not shifting from neutral to drive or from drive to neutral. the last time this happen the jeep was stranded as my wife could not pull it behind the motorhome. ultimately i had to go to florida and we drove the motorhome and jeep back separately. i contacted the dealer about this and at this point i do not have confirmation that this will be fixed as part of the original recall. since this appears to be a common problem i, based on internet searches, i believe that jeep should fix the vehicle even if it is out of warranty. i intend on taking the jeep back to the dealer this week and if i do not get satisfaction i will file additional complaints. i would hope that the nhtsa would force jeep to repair the issue. *tr
While driving on the freeway, the vehicle suddenly shifted itself into 3rd gear. paddle shifting was inoperable and vehicle will up or down shift. error codes given are p0700, and p0406. problem seemed to resolve after restarting vehicle, but then shifts again after a couple of minutes. now vehicle stays in 3rd gear permanently. fluid levels ok, guessing it is electrical/computer related issue based on internet research. taking to dealer soon to have final drive controller new software installed based on recall #n23. hoping it is related to that issue. *tr
I recently took my jeep into the dealer service center to remedy the last recall pertaining to the software flash of the final drive control module. the day before i took my jeep in i had used the 4 wheel drive low. my jeep showed no symptoms of the recall and had no proper incidents yet i decided to take it in to have the task completed to avoid any future problems. since the day i took it in (10/5/2013) i had not used my 4 wheel drive low until thanksgiving day. when i went to use it the transfer case did absolutely nothing and the message "service 4wd system" appeared on the dash. i have asked the dealership to take a look at it and have gotten nowhere expect to be treated rudely and have them extremely resistant to looking into the problem. without even looking at my vehicle they kept telling me that the issue i am experiencing had nothing to do with the flash as they claim the flash affected the transmission park position sensor. when i read the tab "n23" it precisely names the transfer case as the affected component. please help. please! *tr
After having safety recall n23 done to my jeep grand cherokee 5.7l i have since been locked out of 4-wheel low. the n23 safety recall for my vehicle has not worked as it has created another safety issue by me not having my 4-low in a state (colorado) that i use 4-low in for winter and for recreation use. i was almost trapped in the cold mountains due to not knowing the n23 recall deactivated my 4-low. not only if this a safety issue but my vehicles value has diminished greatly as now it's a 2wd vehicle. *tr
I am getting a check engine light about the vehicle selector module it also has on many occasions no engages into gear like it was stuck in neutral even when the shifter is moved back and forth now it seems to not engage into gear for some time and at first start of take off seems to not be fully engaged i saw a recall about the control module already but when i went to the chrysler site and plug in my vin it doesn't show any recalls. *tr
I took my 2005 jeep grand cherokee in for the n23 recall in october 2013 and all seemed good. on 11/14/13 i attempted to use my 4wd lo and i received a message service 4wd. after searching the web i came across numerous people with the same problem after having the recall performed. i then took it back to the dealership to have them redo the recall and all was working good. on 1/6/14 i again received service 4wd, back to the dealer i went. this time i was informed i needed a new transfer case motor and that it would cost me $800 to replace and they are back ordered for 3 or 4 months. i am not the only one that is having this issue and more can be found here: http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f67/n23-recall-issue-no-4-low-1561787/. by the sounds of it there is a cracked pc board in the transfer case. instead of chrysler actually fixing the problem correctly, they just issued a software work around, a band aid fix is what i think of. chrysler needs to be held responsible for this issue. i even called chrysler corp. and was transfer to a voice mail where i left a message in november and i have never heard back from them. *tr
When driving my jeep around say anywhere above 25 mph, if i let off the gas pedal, the front end nose dives and a loud clunk is felt like the transmission fell out. maintenance is up to date, gas has no water, it just does this every single day. so i have to drive my jeep a certain way in order to try to avoid this beating on the transmission. another version of this is for example: i go to pass a car i step on the gas, the transmission kicks down like it should but when i'm ready to slow down after passing a loud clunk! and the vehicle nose dives again like someone had put it in 1st gear at 50mph. about 50% of the time after this happens my rpm's will stay very high like when it drops down for passing it wont shift down for the speed im doing it wants to stay in the passing gear. there has been even times when its really bad, and the rpm's wont regulate down i have to pull over put the vehicle in park and start over. its very exhausting and hazardous with this transmission and this jeep. nothing but problems.

Upon driving my daughter to school my transmission would not leave 1st gear. rpm's would almost red line, i would let off the gas to let it shift and nothing, it stayed in 1st gear. well when i looked at the gauges, my lights for prndl were all lit up instead of just "d". boxes around every single letter. i proceeded to put the car in neutral and put it back in drive and still all 5 letters lit up and engine bogged down. it took several minutes for what like seemed forever for it to get into gear which was drive, i backed up traffic because i couldn't do the speed limit and had to use my hazard lights on the side of the road. this was my first occurrence, this has happened at least a dozen or more times since then to include yesterday jan 5 2015. every time i contact the dealer or ask on jeep owner website, i get " sorry sir the only recall listed is the ignition switch and we don't have a part for that." i checked the website and apparently my jeep had been serviced for the transmission back in 2010 at 70k miles but does not explain what they did. i also need to put in another complaint about the transmission. june of 2014 and still to this day the gear shift can be moved from "p" to any gear, and that is when no keys are in the ignition. i was working under the hood and my 4 year old son did just that and almost ran me over. i checked and the vehicle had no keys in it they were with me in my tool box because i didn't want him to do just that.
Bought the jeep, was notified of a recall and had it done within 2 weeks for buying the jeep. the 4 wheel drive low and the transfer case worked prior to the recall flash and neither work after the flash. had 3 jeep dealer check it out and all said basically the same thing. one said it needed a new actuator and the other two said just remove 2 codes and if that didn't work then the actuator. the codes were removed twice and it reverts back to not working. talked to jeep customer service and they just say sorry there is nothing we can do. so i bought it to tow and from 2 weeks later after the flash i can't tow it. what do you recommend? I wanted to let you know about a possible safety issue. i own a 2005 jeep cherokee limited and the 4 wheel drive transfer case went out while we were camping in myrtle beach. it could be driven so i drove to the jeep dealership there and they said it the transfer case and it was on major back order and they couldn't give me an idea of when it would be done. when we arrived home in manning, sc, i brought the jeep to stokes-craven jeep in manning. they told me there are more than 550 transfer cases on back order and they were not sure when they would arrive. after they looked at the part, it was making a lot of noise so it couldn't be driven. i asked the service manager if this was a recall item since there were so many on back order and he said there wasn't at that time. i called chrysler and asked the question about recall and only got an answer about the part, which they didn't know when it would be available. could you check to see if this should be an item that should be subject to recall? perhaps you can get some straight answers. i know there was a recall regarding the transfer case in may that required a software update and that update was done. thanks *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 jeep grand cherokee. while driving various speeds, the accelerator pedal was depressed but the vehicle failed to accelerate and the rpms increased. the failure recurred on numerous occasions. the vehicle was taken to a dealer who diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vehicle was previously repaired under nhtsa campaign number: 13v175000 (electrical system, power train). the failure mileage was 180,000. update 01/15/16 ma the consumer stated he never had a problem with the transmission jumping from drive to third gear, until he took the vehicle to the dealer after receiving a recall notice. updated 01/27/16.*jb
