The plastic trim panels on the two passenger doors began to crack mainly around the door handle but in other places also. they cracked so badly that the door handle had nothing to hold on to and just fell off. the passengers can not get out of the car from the inside. this is a major safety concern. i did contact jeep several times but they are claiming this is not a defect. perhaps one handle falling off is not a defect but when it happens on multiple handles in the same car ant to multiple owners, it sure seems like a defect to me. based on information on the internet, this problem is far reaching with the door trim panels on jeeps. updated 04/12/2017*js
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the interior rear and driver side door handles fractured and separated from the door panels. the rear doors had to be opened with the exterior door handles. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 78,000. updated 8/10/15*cn
The power locks are shaped in a way that if you have your arm resting on it, it will pull your arm skin in and leave a welt and a bruise. i was resting my arm and it automatically locked, pinching my arm so hard that i had a welt and bruise....this also has happened to my husband. *tr
About three weeks ago my 7 year old granddaughter tried to get out of the jeep and door handle was plastic was cracked and just hanging. this past week end when we had the grandchildren again my husband mentioned the door handle was broken and could not exit the vehicle from that door. we decided to look at all the door handles are all cracked and broken. i decided to research online and this problem has been going on and neglected for years. if an emergency occurred we would be trapped in the vehicle. this is a safety hazard. i was very upset. we purchased this vehicle less than a year ago and was in excellent condition because had one owner. why was this not recalled, the plastic is too thin to support the handle!! *js
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the front passenger, rear driver and rear passenger side interior door handles were cracked and the doors could not be opened from the inside. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 100,000.
The child safety lock on the drivers side rear door keeps moving to unlocked, making this a safety issue because a child could open the door from the inside while the car is in motion. *tr

The plastic doors, which encloses the door handles for the passengers, have cracked and broken off, rendering the door handles inoperable, this inhibit the exit of occupants from the vehicle. the only options for existing the vehicle is to roll the window down or have someone outside of the vehicle open the door. *tt
Latches/locks/linkages - the pop down did not show this category so i used other the door latches will not work due to failing inner plastic housing. all four doors are in some condition of cracking and failure. one latch will not work at all, thus the door cannot be opened from the inside of vehicle. it is a serious safety issue. there are many complaints on this issue that have been filed. chrysler should immediately recall the vehicles and properly repair them. *kb
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the vehicle was parked when a passenger attempted to exit from the front passenger seat, the door handle detached from the vehicle. the failure also occurred on both driver's side doors. the vehicle was taken to an independent repair shop and they were unable to diagnose the failure. the vehicle was not repaired, but the contact was informed that the door panels would have to be replaced. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 39,800.
Interior door latch on rear drivers side door completely broke off and drivers side front door latch beginning to crack around plastic and incur same problem. this is a huge safety issue in case of accident or fire one would be trapped inside vehicle unable to exit presumably dying from injuries. this is an obvious on going problem with the jeep cherokee and i feel chrysler needs to own responsibility for this and incur the expense of all repairs. *tr
2005 jeep grand cherokee limited - car is in good condition except for 3 of the 4 doors have handles casings that are cracked and the door handle is hanging off. the car is well maintained and garage kept. this started happening in the last year and has spread rapidly. all 3 doors have done it the same place and it has started with a crack and then grown into the pieces falling off and leaving the inner workings of the door fully exposed. this a grave safety issue and a recall needs to be issued. *kb
Door panels are broken such that door cannot be opened from inside. *tr
I have an 2005 jeep grand cherokee limited and all 4 interior door handles started with hairline cracks that have advanced into major cracks and pieces of the plastic missing where the interior door handle is located. recently, 2 days ago- the back passenger handle completely came off and now is inoperable. there is no way to exit the vehicle from the inside of that affected door. i am certain that all my door handles will eventually follow suit and i will have no operable doors in the vehicle. this is a safety issue and should be addressed as such. this is not cosmetic. all 4 interior door handle panels need to be replaced. the door handles are not secure and will continue to crumble until they are not usable anymore. since this is a known issue- when is jeep going to start replacing their broken manufactured parts? *tr
